I would adopt Jack Spicer. I would support his evil schemes specifically because they were his only form or regular socialization. I'd be like, "When are all of your little friends coming over?" and he would be like, "You mean my ENEMIES who I am trying to DESTROY!?" and I'd say, "Oh you're so imaginative sweetie 😊" and he'd say, "please stop letting my mortal enemies into my evil lair" and I'd be like "I made this zucchini bread for them, make sure you give it to them next time you see them" and he'd be like "okay" and then he would eat the entire zucchini bread by himself.

I don't understand why Jackie's team-mates are envious(jealous) of her, .Jackie is just a normal girl, what is there to envy?

jackie being a normal girl is part of it, i'd imagine. from the outside jackie has everything that a teen girl is supposed to want or need: wealthy parents, trendy clothes, a long-term boyfriend (break ups notwithstanding), she's pretty, and athletic, popular (she would have won prom queen), gets decent grades (though good or great grades seems more likely since we know she's not the best athlete on the team), has a loyal best friend, and has a leadership role in her chosen club. from the outside, what isn't there to envy about jackie?

especially when you look at her teammates, most of whom have something "wrong" with them compared to the above list. natalie has abusive and neglectful parents and does drugs to cope with her trauma, while jackie barely seems to drink. misty is an outsider who can't connect with anyone, but jackie is popular and a leader and so good at it that she even makes misty feel welcome. shauna struggles to assert herself and go after what she wants, but jackie tells her what to wear and drink and who to date without a second thought. taissa and van are gay women in the 90s, who either weren't out pre-crash (implied) or at the very least weren't dating anyone, and so the ease with which jackie and jeff got together and broke up on repeat must have been so frustrating to watch. lottie falls into many of the same categories as jackie, but while jackie's parents fawn over everything she says and does, lottie eats her meals alone at home and her father "shows love" with jets that take her miles away from him.

we talk about jackie being doomed by the narrative, and she totally is. but she's not just doomed to death; she's doomed to be two-dimensional. yellowjackets is a story about the relationship between a girl and her trauma, and you can't have a relationship when you're dead. like nat says, she's the "lucky one" because she gets to become a symbol (of rules, or social mores, of normalcy and safety) for the rest, instead of struggling alongside them. and what need does a symbol have of complexity? my first paragraph makes a series of assumptions about jackie, any of which could be false. we get glimpses here and there of jackie having feelings and thoughts and concerns that don't align with the things that make her someone to envy, but we don't know. we won't ever know in a way that matters to jackie. anything we learn now will be used to tell us something about the girls who are still alive, because jackie's only real function is to be fodder for them.

A lot of you really like when I go into my deep dives with the Egos and talk about them under a horror lens

But I've mostly only focused on Chase or Anti whenever I've done this so today I'm focusing on Jackie >:))

(Please keep in mind I haven't read the comic yet and I would like to keep this spoiler free of it as of now!!!!!!

I am in love with the idea that Jackie is a silent sufferer. He's someone who will hurt and keep hurting until it's unbearable and he still won't show that he's suffering. It's just his nature to not let anyone see how much he's in pain, whether that be physical or emotional or otherwise.

If or when Jackie starts to get targeted by Anti- he wouldn't ask for help. He wouldn't even admit to himself how wrong it is- I genuinely think he'd brush it off, creating excuse after excuse to himself to avoid ever admitting anything was wrong.

It'd only be until he physically couldn't keep it up anymore that he'd finally crack under the pressure. And I can only imagine how much Anti would absolutely relish in his pain breaking out.

I feel like the likes of Marvin would recognise it immediately, Marvin's an observer and would notice the little things most people would probably overlook- like just how fake Jackie can be when it comes to his politeness and overly nice demeanor.

It's not to say Jackie isn't a nice person- but Marvin can see just how much Jackie plays pretend, how even without the superhero schtick he is constantly hiding behind a mask. Never truly speaking his mind or showing how he ever really feels about anything, and I think there's a genuine fear in Jackie that even he doesn't fully know who his true self is anymore because of how much he hides.

Anti would absolutely feast on Jackie not knowing who he really is- completely isolating him in his own misery, trapping him in a maze of mirrors with false perceptions on who he is- only showing the worst aspects of Jackie that only Jackie knows about- because of course only Jackie knows about any of it, he refuses to let anyone else see it.

I think Jackie wants more than anything to be able to let people in- but that felt near impossible before he even got his powers or to be a hero. Every time Jackie looks for a genuine human connection all he's faced with is this inescapable feeling of him never being able to ever fully open up, there's just too much to lose and he'd much rather him take the brunt of absolutely everything than risk anyone getting hurt.

So of course Jackie would eventually break, there is so much for Anti to feed off of him that it is only a matter of time before he would completely crack under everything going on behind closed doors, doors that he locked, bolted and nailed shut before even he couldn't open them anymore.

how do u have both hans zimmer n lorne balfe making the soundtrack n its so ... unmemorable. ac3 + revelations had great soundtrack, n gladiator n interstellar too, n these r just things i recall them working on that r on my playlists, like how do u end up w something thats so idk plain? like its not bad theres just not anything that rlly stands out to me. n its not even abt the genre n comparing it to inquisitions soundtrack (which i love) rn im comparing it to games i dont even have an emotional connection to, like far cry 3 or doom.

idk im trying to listen to it properly rn while writing but so far my opnion havent changed n i rlly do think its a shame bcs for me a good n memorable soundtrack can immortalize a game for me

Here's some bonus stuff I found in the files! Just got you! (Again note that this stuff is very prone to being changed or scrapped)

The new duplicants seem to be a new type of duplicant called bionic duplicants. They are a mix of organic and inorganic components, so my cyborg dupe theory does indeed seem to be correct! It seems like they have power banks and oxygen tanks that will need managed, and they seem to require oil to operate as well. As time goes on, a new material called gunk will build up in their systems, and they will need to visit something called the gunk extractor to be cleaned up. Their oxygen tanks also allow them to work in low oxygen environments, and it can be assumed that they won't need sleep, and potentially not even need food. They also seem to be able to install booster packs that increase their skills, and can come with preinstalled booster packs with some on print traits, including one that allows them to locate undiscovered geysers (which doesn't sound super useful tbh but it's still neat)

💬 - Dialogue or prose?

It differs from story to story, but a majority of the time, I am a purple proser through and through. Dialogue plays a key part, and sometimes I like telling stories or parts of stories purely through speech, but it can feel so wrong sometimes. Especially when there's a lot of characters to juggle, it can get overwhelming and I sometimes forget about certain characters lol.

I'm naturally more of the internal monologue type, where I can go for pages and pages of just explaining the thoughts and emotions going through a character's head, rather than just-- actually telling the reader what is happening lmao. I had to ask for advice on how to break that habit not gonna lie.

I guess the moral of the story is that there's a time and a place for everything.

Jacky felt the hand return to her shoulder, now gently massaging and rubbing the area. Part of her knew it was a shallow, faux comfort, but she found that she didn't have the strength anymore to pull away. And besides... she had to admit, it felt maybe, just a little nice...

"You must've really tuckered yourself out, huh? It's ok, you can sleep if you want to."

She could sleep if she wanted to...

"That's right. Just let those heavy eyelids shut... Just like that... There you go. Good, so good."

❤️ - Why do you Write

I write for a few different reasons.

I write because I want to see my OCs come to life. I want them to exist outside of my own head. I've tried a few other creative avenues like drawing, animation, videos like tiktok, but they take a level of skill that I can't easily learn, and/or they take more effort than I have the spoons to give. Sometimes those methods can't even convey the story that well anyway.

I write because I want to read. Sometimes I get an idea for a story that I want to read so fucking badly, that the fact that I can't read it because it doesn't exist physically hurts a little. Like the heartache that comes with missing something, but it never even existed in the first place. So I write it. So that I can come back and read it. So that I don't have to miss it anymore.

I write because it's cathartic. Writing and reading about stuff that I experience or desperately want to experience feels amazing. It's a temporary escape from a stressful life. Pure self indulgence. It's part of how I process my life.

And I want to share my writing with the world because... well... partially just because I want to. But also because, I want other people to fall in love with my lil guys just as much as I have. I want people to get excited about them with me. I want people who will get just as feral reading about them as I am when writing them. I want people to go brrrr about them with. I want to info dump about them, and have people just get so fucking hyped.

I want a fandom for them so that I can interact with it. Because right now that fandom only consists of me and a couple friends, and it's kinda lonely not gonna lie.

But in order do any of that, I must first post writing that has my characters in it. Thankfully for that, Bind... Gag... Kill. is almost ready to go, I just gotta throw it through a few revisions first (which is actually rare for me to do lmao. I usually just post the first go like a dumbass-- just like I'm doing here! Just a couple flow fixes and spelling mistakes, and then it's off into the void with ye!)
