I still think about your Gotham Gooners.
Any more fun shenanigans for us?
Oh man I completely forgot about these guys.
For those who don't know, they are crack OCs that I created that sorta spiraled out of control for a little bit. But ngl, they were fun. Here is an overview of them and you can also check my tags and my Ao3.
Anyway, some more headcanons:
Milo came up with the name Gooners. Yes he is aware of the double meaning—he is a 15-year-old boy with unrestricted internet access. No he won't change it. He already made T-shirts
Gene makes poor personal financial decisions for someone who used to be an accountant. He once won $100 from a scratch ticket and immediately lost it by investing in a start-up that wanted to make iPhones for pets
Kellin inserted a small implant into their arm to purposely set off metal detectors. That way, after they explain their "medical condition," security guards will wave them in without checking for the multiple weapons on their person
Rob was parentified growing up and refused to make Milo do the same for the twins, especially since Milo isn't even his kid. Cue Rob zooming back and forth like a roadrunner between Jackie's dance recital and Gunner's Little League game
Mac's surveillance vehicle is an ice cream truck he bought for cheap after the owner died in it. He uses the freezers to store his midnight meals, consisting of Midwestern classics like cheese curds, tater tot hotdish, and Detroit pizza. Tangentially related, his full first name is Mackinac—as in Mackinac Island, Michigan
Booker's job as an intern is to schedule meetings, go on coffee runs, and calculate every possible Looney Toons physics scenario that the team might encounter on any given job
Otto doesn't have a yard, so instead, to fulfill his old man duties, he opens his apartment window and yells at people to get off the public sidewalk. Molly brings a blender and makes milkshakes to bring all the boys to the sidewalk
Before becoming a pyrotechnic or professional criminal, Blaise worked a new job every other month (in part because of his ADHD). One of them was a waiter at a furry restaurant and another was a lab rat at Wayne Enterprises
The Gooners take any job that promises them money—and they're not always illegal. One time, they got paid to set up the Tour de Gotham

Note
Yes. Jason once crawled through the wrong window and was met with a Home Alone style booby trap set up by Milo and the twins. It's the only real W the Gooners ever have had against the batfam
#onlyingotham do you find out the buff guy in the appartment next to you is actually Red Hood because he crawled through your window instead of his at 3am

Washington Redskins 92nd Anniversary 1932 2024 T Shirt
Washington Redskins 92nd Anniversary 1932 2024 T Shirt
My stepfamily – my brother, brother’s wife, and her kids (which he adopted) – have many wonderful qualities, but organisation is not one of Washington Redskins 92nd Anniversary 1932 2024 T Shirt. Even when I was 15 my brother (18 years older than me) would call me, panicking, on Christmas Eve, wanting me to come shopping and help pick out stuff for his girlfriend. Now that he’s married and in his fifties, he no longer calls me for shopping help, but I expect he still leaves a lot of it till Christmas Eve. This year I’ve been texting him and my niece since September, asking what to get for my nephew and his partner (who I don’t know that well, and I’ve never met his partner), my niece’s partner (ditto), and five kids (I was never an average kid and have no idea what to buy children, as shown by a couple years ago, when I bought the 3-year-old a box set of the Chronicles of Narnia, and then was startled when I was gently told that 3-year-olds can’t read. I taught myself to read with Enid Blyton at 3, and my dad gave me Narnia by the end of that year, but apparently this is not the norm).

Omar Epps
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Omar Hashim Epps (born July 20, 1973) is an American actor, rapper, songwriter, and record producer. His film roles include Major League II, Juice, Higher Learning, Scream 2, The Wood, In Too Deep, and Love and Basketball. His television work includes the role of Dr. Dennis Gant on the medical drama series ER, J. Martin Bellamy in Resurrection and Dr. Eric Foreman on the Fox medical drama series House from 2004 to 2012.
Early life
Epps was born in Brooklyn, New York. His parents divorced during his childhood and he was raised by his mother, Bonnie Maria Epps, an elementary school principal. He lived in several neighborhoods while growing up (Bedford-Stuyvesant, East New York and East Flatbush 90's). Before he started acting, he belonged to a rap group called Wolfpack which he formed with his cousin in 1991. He began writing poetry, short stories and songs at the age of ten and attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.
Career
Early in Epps's career, he was most often cast in the roles of troubled teens and/or athletes. He made his feature film debut with rapper Tupac Shakur as the star of cinematographer Ernest Dickerson's directorial film debut Juice. The film is the violent and tragic story of four young men growing up in Harlem.
Epps followed up his performance in Juice as a running back in the college football drama The Program alongside James Caan.
Epps starred in the film "Deadly Voyage" produced by John Goldschmidt for HBO Pictures and BBC Films, and won the best actor award at the Monte Carlo Television Festival for portraying Kingsley Ofusu in this true story about African stowaways.
The following year, he switched to baseball as co-star of Major League II, taking over the role of Willie Mays Hayes from originator Wesley Snipes. His next athletic endeavor was playing a track and field star in John Singleton's Higher Learning, a look at the politics and racial tensions of college life.
Epps landed a role on the hit television drama ER for several episodes portraying Dr. Dennis Gant, a troubled surgical intern. After his television work on ER, Epps returned to the big screen in 1997 with a brief turn as a giddy moviegoer on a date with a woman played by Jada Pinkett, who ends up an early victim of a psycho slasher in the blockbuster sequel Scream 2. Also in 1997 Epps was the star of the fact-based HBO movie First Time Felon. He played a small-time criminal who goes through Chicago's boot camp reform system and undertakes a heroic flood rescue, only to then be faced with the adjustment of re-entering society with the mark of ex-con. In 1999 Epps was cast as Linc in The Mod Squad.
While The Mod Squad proved a critical and box-office bust, Epps's later 1999 effort The Wood offered him a serious and multi-dimensional role. Following a group of middle-class African Americans from youth to adulthood, The Wood, the debut effort from director-screenwriter Rick Famuyiwa, co-starred Richard T. Jones and Taye Diggs and received a push from co-producers MTV Films that ensured turnout of a sizable youth audience. Also in 1999, Epps was featured alongside Stanley Tucci and LL Cool J, playing an undercover detective who finds himself dangerously caught up in the illegal goings-on he is investigating in In Too Deep. 1999 also saw him lens the 1950s set murder mystery When Willows Touch, with James Earl Jones and Jada Pinkett Smith.
In 2000, Epps starred in Love & Basketball, featuring Alfre Woodard and Sanaa Lathan. He portrayed Quincy, the NBA hopeful who has a stormy relationship with an equally adept female basketball star Monica (Sanaa Lathan). The actor held supporting roles in a series of films, including Dracula 2000, Big Trouble, and the telepic Conviction. In this year he also had a leading role as a gangster inBrother, a movie by acclaimed Japanese actor/director Takeshi Kitano.
In 2004, Epps landed the role of drug-dealer-turned-prizefighter Luther Shaw, who falls under the tutelage of boxing promoter Jackie Kallen (Meg Ryan) in the biopic Against the Ropes.
Epps was a character in the video game Def Jam Fight for NY in 2004.
Also in 2004, Epps returned to television medical drama with his role as Dr. Eric Foreman on the Fox television series House. The role earned him a NAACP Image Award in 2007, 2008 and 2013 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. In 2014, Epps took on the role of agent J. Martin Bellamy in the ABC television series, Resurrection. The series focuses on a number of individuals who return from the dead, and change the lives of their families and friends in Arcadia, Missouri.
Personal life
Epps married Keisha Spivey from the R&B group Total in 2006. They live in California with daughter K'mari Mae (born July 2004) and son Amir (born December 2007). He also has a daughter, Aiyanna, from a previous relationship. His sister, Aisha Epps, lives in Brooklyn, NY. Omar dated actress Sanaa Lathan 1999-2003 before reuniting with Spivey.
Epps is popularly known for a resemblance to Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin. This resemblance was once referenced on an episode of
House
in November 2009, in the season 6, eighth episode, "Ignorance Is Bliss". House mentions feeling like Mike Tomlin because of having his team back, but probably not as much as Foreman (Epps' character).

Best West Bloomfield real estate agents
In West Bloomfield MI, no matter what home or condo needs you have, you’ll need one of the best real estate agents to get you the price you want. You want an experienced tough negotiating realtor.  A negotiator that knows how not to blow up the deal.  It is all about getting the home to the closing table if you really want it.  There are thousands and thousands real estate agents active in Metro Detroit area, but the top real estate agents in the West Bloomfield area are proven to get better outcomes for their clients. According to real estate transaction data analysis, the top 5% of seller’s agents in the suburbs of Detroit sell homes for more money than the average metro Detroit real estate agent. The top 5% of buyer’s agents generally save clients 1.31% more than the average real estate agent in metro Detroit.
You have found the website of one of the top real estate agents in West Bloomfield.  One that has consistently been the top individual agent at Real Estate One.  Consistently ranked in the top 5% of Metro Detroit realtors by hour magazine, and has been one of Angies List top super service providers.  Not only is Russ one of the best West Bloomfield real estate agents.  He works hard for his clients and has 5 star reviews.
Here are some of the reviews his past clients have written about him.
Russ was extremely knowledgeable in helping us find a home on the lake. He knew all the areas and had good information on the lakes we visited.  He went above and beyond just sending us the current listings.  He also found us listings and previewed the homes to see if they fit our criteria.  He spent many hours with us and we found the perfect home because of his attention to detail. We highly recommend him to our friends and family. Bill & Pam Waterford Michigan
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Russ was kind and helpful. We had not bought a house in over 40 years so we had no idea what was in store for us.After reading the testimonials on Russ's website, we gave him a call.  We'd had a bad experience with a previous realtor, so we were cautious.  But it turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made.He answered all our questions and even worked around our schedules to show us houses.  As busy as Russ can be, he always returned our calls.Even when we decided to put the search on hold for almost a year, Russ waited patiently for us to be ready. He told us that when we were ready again, he'd be ready to help.Bottom line, Russ is a very good realtor who goes above and beyond what you expect. Thank you Russ for everything! We and our dogs love our new home! Frank and Maria Botello
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  It is from Larry Foote of the Pittsburge Steelers and the Lions.  He is University of Michigan graduate.  He grew up in Detroit and  was a member of the Steelers superbowl champs team. I recently bought a new home through Russ. I called him and told him what me and my Husband were looking for. He called me back in a few hours and had 10 houses for us to go look at. He knows his business very well. We were looking at foreclosures so some of them where pretty bad, but Russ knew what to look for and when it was a good buy. Thankfully because of Russ, my family and I have been in our new home for 6 months and we couldn't be happier. Russ bent over backwards for me and made me feel like family. He is the only person I will ever buy and sell houses through and I recommend him to anyone I can.        Jackie Cone  Dearborn Heights, MI

 Local knowledge: *****
Process expertise: *****
Responsiveness: *****
Negotiation skills: *****
Russ was a fantastic realtor. After meeting Russ on the lake he helped me buy and sell two homes. I was going to list my home in Waterford so I called Russ over. I asked what I should do at the lowest cost, and the easiest way to get top dollar. The house looked great after I did everything.   The house sold quickly and I got asking price. Once Waterford was under contract Russ called me when he saw lakefront homes that he thought we would like.  After a few showings we found our Dream lake home!  Its very impressive to find an agent today that doesn't just send links and hope you call them.  He didn't rush me or push me to by a house.    Now we have a lake home with a big lot, great view, with lots of storage
Call Russ today for your next move.  Find your dream home.  248-310-6239

Meet the sons of former NFL players taking over the 2021 draft class
Tumblr media
Want to feel old? The 2021 draft is filled with sons of NFL players you used to watch.
There’s a not-so-fun cycle of being a sports fan. As a kid, your idols are all adults — viewed from far away, and serving as inspiration. The next jump happens in college, when suddenly players entering the league are your age, and it’s kind of neat. In your early twenties it’s still fun, and people slightly younger than you are becoming superstars.
The pivot begins in your late 20s. At this point you suffer the crippling weight of realization that players destined to be millionaires will be more financially successful than you ever will, and they’re a decade younger than you. Now, I’m reaching the final stage: Hilarity. This is when the players you watched as a kid have their own children entering the league. A grim realization of the unstoppable passage of time,
And on that cheery note, I’d like you to share in my grim existential crisis by learning about all the players entering the 2021 NFL Draft who had parents you watch play years ago, and some who entered the league in recent years you may have missed. It’s my hope that you’ll feel terrible about all this when it’s over, because misery loves company.
Patrick Surtain II, CB — Alabama
The highest-rated prospects of the NFL children this class, Patrick Surtain II is, you guessed it, the son of Patrick Surtain. Surtain Sr. played 10 years in the NFL at cornerback for the Dolphins and Chiefs, being named to the All-Pro team in 2002 and 2003.
Surtain Sr. was a highly-rated small-school prospect when he entered the league out of Southern Miss, but his son is a very different player at the same point in his career. A five star recruit who played for Alabama, Surtain II has prototypical size for the modern cornerback position at 6’2, 202 pounds — and is expected to be one of the first defensive backs off the board in the draft.
Unlike his father, who needed to prove himself in the NFL, Surtain II will be expected to enter the league from day one, not just as one of the best defensive backs on his team, but ready to take on a leadership position.
Will he be better than dad?
It’s likely. That’s not a knock on Patrick Surtain Sr, but rather an acknowledgment of just how incredible Surtain II is. Yes, he was on a dominant Alabama team, but between his time in Tuscaloosa and his tutelage under his father we’re going to see a monster in the NFL.
Asante Samuel Jr, CB — Florida State
When you talk about a chip off the old block, this is one heck of a father-son comparison. Asante Samuel Jr. is the exact same height as his dad, and just one pound lighter than his father’s playing weight.
Once seen as a lock first round pick, Samuel Jr. has fallen a little down draft boards after putting in an excellent, but not transcendent final season for the Seminoles, but he’ll still be selected on day two, no question. There are still things he needs to learn to become a true force in the NFL, but that’s really appropriate, considering his dad did the same.
While Asante Samuel was drafted by the Patriots and played four years in New England, most remember him for his time in Philadelphia. The prize of the 2008 free agency class, Samuel quickly signed with the Eagles and became one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
For three straight years he was named to the Pro Bowl, making the All-Pro team in two of these years. A big-play, ball-hawking cornerbacks, Samuel wasn’t just known for locking down top receivers, but absolutely turning games with big-time interceptions that teams crave.
Will he be better than dad?
Asante Samuel was one of the best defensive players in the entire league for a good chunk of his career. There’s possibility here, but it will require a little humility from Samuel Jr, and a willingness to learn the finer points of playing cornerback in the NFL.
Jaycee Horn, CB — South Carolina
This is a fun case of seeing a son completely flip positions from his father. Everyone knows the great Joe Horn, who played wide receiver in the NFL from 1996-2007, most notably with the New Orleans Saints, but Jacee Horn has become a force of a cornerback at South Carolina.
Similar to Asante Samuel Jr, Horn was once seen as a first round lock but has been sliding lower with concerns whether his game was too based on the ability to make contact with receivers in the college game, which may not translate to the NFL. That sounds a lot more dire than it really is, because Horn will be a day two pick for sure — and would likely start for most teams in the NFL from the jump.
It’s going to be interesting to see how Jaycee adapts to the NFL. Here’s a kid who, presumably, spent many of his formative years covering his dad. That will be interesting to watch. The biggest tragedy of Joe Horn’s career is that he caught on too late. After languishing on the Chiefs’ special teams unit for years, it wasn’t until he arrived on the Saints that he showed his potential — often playing much larger than his 6’1 frame would suggest. A jump ball master, Horn would out-muscle smaller DBs and come down with ball, being a nightmare matchup for opposing defensive coordinators.
Will he be better than dad?
That’s a difficult question considering they play different positions. Joe Horn was a four time Pro Bowler for the Saints, and probably deserved more than he ended up getting — but everything is really on Jaycee Horn as he develops in the NFL. If the metric we’re using is Pro Bowl appearances and All-Pro teams he certainly has a chance, because his dad felt so often like he was on the outside looking in.

Gooner's plans for valentine's day?
Rob hates Valentine's Day to the point where he scratches it out on his calendar. Still, his kids will make cards at school and they'd watch his late wife's favorite movies together while he has a picture of her on the end table
Blaise and Molly have a will-they-won't-they kind of dynamic and they're not sure what to make of Valentine's—whether they should act like just friends or something else. They wind up hanging out with the singles in their separate friend groups but are constantly checking their phones and texting each other
Otto, being 70, is a little old-fashioned. He surprises his wife with flowers and breakfast in bed, then after work they dress up and go to the same restaurant they've been going to for years and have a nice dinner followed by a long drive
Milo has had his eye on an exchange student at school and right now he's just trying to get closer, which is a little challenging considering they're on different rungs of the social ladder. He plans on approaching her at school with a note he spent all night agonizing over
Mac and his long-term girlfriend are homebodies whose idea of a date night is ordering pizza and playing World of Warcraft in their pajamas
Gene still has lingering feelings for his ex-wife but he's been making an effort to move on, so this Valentine's Day he matched with someone online and is going on his first date in a long time at a local café
Kellin is familiar with the concept of Valentine's Day but it was never celebrated in his childhood and they don't see any reason to start now. So instead, they meet Booker at a favorite ramen place because Booker needed help with homework (which is odd, since he's normally the one helping others)

Terry Bradshaw passes for a record four touchdowns to lead the Steelers to a 35-31 victory over the Cowboys in Super Bowl XIII. The Steelers become the first team to win three Super Bowls. The game is also remembered for Hall of Fame Tight End Jackie Smith's dropped pass in the end zone. Cowboys radio voice Verne Lundquist immediately delivered the infamous commentary, "Bless his heart, he's got to be the sickest man in America."

THE 39TH ANNUAL WPXI HOLIDAY PARADE (Part 4)
The 39th annual WPXI Holiday Parade was held on Saturday, November 30th, 2019 in Downtown Pittsburgh. The parade was televised live on WPXI-TV and was streamed live on wpxi.com and WPXI Now on streaming apps, and the WPXI Mobile app.  Each year, the parade—that’s been a part of an annual Holiday/Christmas tradition in the greater Pittsburgh area—has featured colorful floats, marching bands, specialty units, balloons, as well as national and local celebrities. Past WPXI Holiday Parade guests have included Usher, the Harlem Globetrotters, Former Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steeler running backs Franco Harris and “The Bus” Jerome Bettis; and Pittsburgh natives Maddie and Mackenzie Ziegler, Mia Zanotti and Chris Jamison, both of “The Voice”, Gabby Barrett of “American Idol”, Jackie Evancho, Daya, Christina Aguilera and Joe Manganiello.
This past year’s parade featured appearances by WPXI-TV Traffic Reporter Trisha Pittman, meteorologist Scott Harbaugh and “Pittsburgh’s Chief Meteorologist”, Stephen Cropper; Victoria Piekut, Miss Pennsylvania USA 2020, Kiara Lin, Miss Teen Pennsylvania 2020; Pittsburgh-born actor, and one of the stars of the hit NBC series “This Is Us”, Blake Stadnik, WQED-TV’s own Mr. McFeely, “Speedy Delivery” of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and legendary documentarian, Rick Sebak. Other “famous” Pittsburgh faces that took part in the 39th annual WPXI Holiday Parade were mascots from Robert Morris, Penn State, Point Park University, the Washington Wild Things, Kennywood Park’s own Kenny Kangaroo, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ own Iceburgh, and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ own Steely McBeam. The parade also had performances by the Pittsburgh Steelers’ own Steeline band, the Bishop Canevin High School Marching Crusaders, the Black Berets, nearby West Virginia’s own Wheeling Park High School Chorus and Morgantown High School’s Marching Band, and a very special performance of “Gold in It” by Emmy award-winning recording artist, and Pittsburgh native, Frzy.
These photos were taken for a self-assignment for Pittverse Magazine.

Memorable Movie Music-Movies That Made Us pt3
Memorable Movie Music that you love
When it comes to movie music, it can be just as important as any other element. In fact not only can the right song make or break a film, it can often be the best thing about an otherwise ‘just ok’ movie. You can walk away feeling the film was better than it actually was. Movie music can also expose you to genres or styles of music you wouldn’t have come across…

The 6 most memorable Super Bowls ever held in Miami
Tumblr media
Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and John Elway won Super Bowl MVPs in Miami.
Miami, which has hosted more Super Bowls than any city, has seen everything from the Guarantee to Jerry Rice’s record performance to John Elway’s farewell.
The San Francisco 49ers are back in the Super Bowl at Hard Rock Stadium, at the same site of their last championship a quarter-century ago. It’s part of the rich history of football’s biggest game in Miami.
Twenty-five years ago, on Jan. 29, 1995, the 49ers crushed the San Diego Chargers to become the first team to win five Super Bowls, all in a 14-year span that defined greatness for the NFL before Bill Belichick and Tom Brady teamed up in New England.
One of the 49ers’ other championships also came in Miami: Super Bowl XXIII. That was the first time Miami had hosted the game at Joe Robbie Stadium, after the previous five had been at the Orange Bowl.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ last Super Bowl was 50 years ago in New Orleans, the only Super Bowl in a four-year span that wasn’t in Miami. New Orleans has hosted 10 Super Bowls, but 11 have been in Miami, or, more technically, the Miami area, since Hard Rock Stadium is located in the adjacent Miami Gardens.
This year will be the sixth Super Bowl at the venue, and quite fittingly for sport’s most corporate event, under its fifth different stadium name:
Joe Robbie Stadium (1989, 1995)
Pro Player Stadium (1999)
Dolphin Stadium (2007)
Sun Life Stadium (2010)
Hard Rock Stadium (2020)
With Miami home to nearly 19 percent of all Super Bowls to date, it’s only natural the city has seen their its share of memorable football moments. Here are the most notable of the Miami Super Bowls so far.
Super Bowl III: Jets 16, Colts 7
When the 49ers walloped the Chargers in Super Bowl XXIX, that was expected. San Francisco was favored by 18.5 points, the largest spread in the game’s history. The only point spread even close was the Baltimore Colts favored by 18 over the New York Jets in Super Bowl III, also in Miami. That game, from January 1969, really put the Super Bowl on the map, thanks to a guarantee from Jets quarterback Joe Namath.
“I get up the podium and a guy in the back of the room is going, ‘Hey Namath, we’re going to kick your you know what,’” Namath recalled. “It was just, ‘I’ve been hearing that all week long. I’ve got news for you, buddy. We’re going to win the game, I guarantee it.’”
Namath has downplayed his guarantee as an offhand response to a heckler, but it matched the tone of what Namath was saying all week leading up the game, albeit not without the word “guarantee” that created the legend.
The Jets won, 16-7, fulfilling Namath’s promise while also further legitimizing the AFL two seasons before the two leagues merged into what would become the modern NFL.
Super Bowl V: Colts 16, Cowboys 13
Just two years after representing the NFL in the Super Bowl, the Colts were now in the AFC in the first season of the merger. The Colts won a close, but sloppy contest over the Dallas Cowboys, 16-13, on a field goal with nine seconds remaining by Jim O’Brien. It was the first of seven Super Bowls with a go-ahead score in the final minute or in overtime. The first two of these games were in Miami, along with the 49ers’ win in Super Bowl XXIII.
Though Baltimore won Super Bowl V, Dallas linebacker Chuck Howley took home Super Bowl MVP honors, the only player from a losing team to win the award.
Super Bowl XIII: Steelers 35, Cowboys 31
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cowboys met again in 1979, a rematch of their Super Bowl three years earlier, also in Miami. Both games were close in the fourth quarter until Pittsburgh pulled away. But this one was more of a shootout, the first of only three Super Bowls to feature both teams scoring at least 30 points.
The key play here came in the final minutes of the third quarter, with Dallas trailing by seven points. On third-and-3 from the 10-yard line, Roger Staubach found Jackie Smith wide open in the end zone, only to have the tight end drop the potential tying score.

“Bless his heart, he’s got to be the sickest man in America,” said Verne Lundquist on the Cowboys radio call.
Dallas settled for a field goal instead of a touchdown, which seems significant since they lost by just four points.
Super Bowl XXIII: 49ers 20, Bengals 16
Jerry Rice has three of the top nine receiving-yard games in Super Bowl history, and two of those happened in Miami. The first came in 1989, against the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII. Rice caught 11 passes for a Super Bowl-best 215 yards and a touchdown.
Rice was such a focus of Cincinnati’s defense that he was essentially a decoy on the deciding play, a 10-yard touchdown pass zipped by Joe Montana to John Taylor with 34 seconds left to secure the come-from-behind victory. Rice still walked away with the Super Bowl MVP Award.
Six years later, Rice caught three of Steve Young’s record six touchdown passes in Super Bowl XXIX, tying a receiving record that still stands. He caught 10 passes for 149 yards against the Chargers, which amazingly wasn’t even his best Super Bowl at Joe Robbie Stadium.
Super Bowl XXIX: 49ers 49, Chargers 26
Steve Young was at the peak of his powers during the 1994 season, leading the league with 35 touchdown passes and a then-record 112.8 quarterback rating. Efficiency was the name of Young’s game, and that year he became the first quarterback to complete 70 percent of his passes with at least 400 pass attempts.
Young won two previous championships with the 49ers, but as the backup to Joe Montana. Now in his fourth season as San Francisco’s starter, Young finally got past the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Championship Game, avenging playoff losses to Dallas in the two years prior. Against San Diego, Young was sublime, throwing for six touchdown passes that remains unmatched in Super Bowl history.
“Someone take the monkey off my back, please,” Young jokingly implored his teammates on the sideline in the final minutes of the game.
Super Bowl XXXIII: Broncos 34, Falcons 19
While this game between the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons was certainly memorable for the record-tying seven field goal attempts (though both teams combined to make only four), you might remember this as John Elway’s final game.
Elway completely flipped the script on his personal legacy in his final two seasons. He was headed for the Hall of Fame either way, but before 1997 he had no championships and three Super Bowl losses, none of which were particularly close. The Broncos then won two Super Bowls in Elway’s final two seasons. Elway threw for 336 yards in an MVP performance against Atlanta, beating his former coach Dan Reeves — with whom he and the Broncos lost three Super Bowls — in the process.
It was a true storybook ending.
Miami has given us a plethora of memorable Super Bowls, but we’re overdue for another. Five of the first six Super Bowls in Miami were close, decided by single digits. But beginning with that Young/Rice domination in 1995, the last four Miami Super Bowls have been blowouts, with an average victory margin of 16 points.
The AFC won six of the 10 previous Super Bowls in Miami, but the 49ers have two of the four NFC victories.
It’s been 10 years since the last Super Bowl in Miami, matching the longest drought for the city. The last time Miami had to wait so long, we saw the 49ers and Bengals give us a classic. Maybe the 49ers and Chiefs can also give us an exciting game this Sunday in South Florida.
