So I go by a LOT of names but I prefer to be called Ashley or Auri (ofc these are not my legal name), also I'm Hungarian🇭🇺‼️
I use she/her they/them, but I prefer only they/them more (I can't decide between demigirl and nonbinary so don't bomb me)
I'm asexual and bisexual but I can't really decide between bisexual or pansexual. However, I'm also demigirl (or non binary, idk leave me alone)
I'm dyslexic and can't really show my feelings/thoughts. I struggle with spelling and grammar so if I make a mistake please correct me and don't make fun of me. I have a hard time understanding things or slangs so I will be confused very often or ask what does it mean.
My special interests are musicals like r&j or any other theater shows.
I love music, drawing or writing small poems. I love sharing my arts or poems to people who I really really like, so if I share something with you, you are very special to me :)
I don't really have dni set yet, but if you are toxic/weird I will block you or unfollow you. I'm also a MINOR!!
I don't really know what should I say more.. This account is for my own oc (Vinny) and for other things, also I ask politely do not copy or steal my arts/oc, I use bases/references for my arts but I always will give credit to the base or reference owner.

OPERETTSZÍNHÁZ LOST MY SUPPORT
I am OUTRAGED. As some of you might know, a change of director at Operettszínház is due in February 2024. The current director Kiss-B. Attila was accused of sexual and verbal harrasment by multiple current employees of Operettszínház. Szente Vajk is a sympathize lf the current government. In the final round three candidates were in race for the presidential seat: the current Kiss-B, Szente Vajk and our beloved Szilveszter. On the last public voting Szente got 37%, SZPSZ 35%, and the current douchebag got 28%. Coincidence? I think not.
One of the criteria was to give in documentation, that you have 5 years of experience working in theaters. You had to also hand in documentations of this 5 years. Two days ago they suddenly invalidated Szilveszter's application, saying he handed in these documents after the deadline. They never even notified him that something was wrong with his documents.
They REMOVED HIM from the candidates, because the JÁSZAI MARI-AWARD WINNER ACTOR didn't prove he has 5 years of theater experience "in Time".
It was revealed today, that Kiss-B. will continue his job leading Operettszínház from 1st February. And it makes me disgusted. I hate to be part of a country, where a sexual predator can stay the director of the most prestigious musical theatre, just because he kisses ass.
Until a change occurs, I refuse to support them in any way, and I encourage all of you to do the same.
I stand with SZPSZ.

No but the way Júlia and Tybalt (In Rómeó és Júlia especially but in every adaption actually) perfectly mirror each other in the way they are being stifled by the role they play due to their gender and how it fucks them up, as well as the way they completely reject their roles (specifically in Rómeó és Júlia)? We have Tybalt, who was forced to be as violent and protective of his family as possible despite the heavy implication that he was a sensitive and dreamy child, not to mention the way his views of sex and love were shaped by social conventions (and specifically his father).
I’m going by the Italian Renaissance societal mores here, even though resj presumably takes place in a quasi-dystopian or post-dystopian future/Alternate Universe. During the Italian Renaissance, male children spent very little time with a nurse because that was considered ‘feminine’, and were sent off to school at a very young age. Although family was still considered the most important thing, actual familial relationships were hard to cultivate presuming that child was away at school. Now, it could be that I’m looking way too much into this and no one even thought about Tybalt’s childhood regarding him going away to school or being taught by a tutor at home, so I could be way off, BUT my point is that the emotions regarding family were strictly based on the masculine ‘protector and provider’ aspect rather than tenderness and actually spending time with family.
You can even see this in modern western society! It is only within the past few decades that men started to spend more time with their children, and do traditionally ‘feminine’ things for their kids like changing diapers, feeding etc. The idea of a Father being a provider rather than a caregiver has even carried over to society today - men are still praised for running errands with their children and doing activities with them without the mother present. These men are just seen as being ‘babysitters’ ‘helping out mom’ when they should simply be seen as parents doing their job as parents. It’s unnecessary to go into the negative impact this has had on both men and women, but my point is that this ‘nuture vs provide and protect’ view is still prevalent today, and was 100x worse in the Itaian Renaissance Era (and presumably society in resj).
So Tybalt is burdened with the duty to protect his family, but we see he, unlike his father, actually wants to be close emotionally to his family. The best evidence for this is his relationships to women in his family. I’ve made another post about this, but basically Tybalt’s father has taught him that women are literally ‘objects’, and the goal is to sleep with as many women as possible with absolutely no emotional attachment or respect for the women they sleep with. Tybalt, per his own admission in Ez A Kéz Utolér, mentions sleeping with many women indiscriminately, and not being emotionally attached to any of them. But as the song goes on we realize that he doesn’t want that. He is in love with Júlia, and clearly does not see her as an object. He doesn’t believe any man is good enough for her (least of all him).
Now, I’ve seen it argued that he doesn’t actually see Júlia as her own person, only the ideal of her, and even has the whole ‘Madonna/Whore Complex’ going on, which is certainly a valid argument, but I’m not sure I agree with it.
I think he sees himself in Júlia - the sensitive and loving child he never got to be. It’s possible a part of him does not want to see Júlia lose her innocence (not necessarily in a creepy way), and become like him.
Don’t get me wrong, his love for Júlia is definitely creepy and a good amount of his rage comes from romantic (and presumably sexual) jealousy. He mentions that he never loved any of the women he slept with, and has only ever loved Júlia. According to his father, love is just a weakness and women are just for sex, but clearly Tybalt doesn’t agree.
Possibly the ONLY healthy relationship he has (err, had) in his life is with the Nurse - he is seen holding her hand at the ball and she embraces his body after he dies, and has to be pulled away by a servant. I believe this is possibly a nod to when the Nurse calls him the “best friend she had” in Shakespeare (another reason I love resj is the Shakespearen nods while doing its own thing).
Lady Capulet obviously loves Tybalt (judging by her reaction to his death), though his uncomfortable attraction does not seem to be reciprocated. The inclusion of his attraction to her could be another nod to Shakespeare - though it is not actually in the text, a fairly popular theory is that Tybalt and Lady Capulet were lovers (it’s possibly worth noting that Lady Capulet was likely closer in age to Tybalt than Lord Capulet). Personally I don’t think there was any inappropriate relationship in Shakespeare, but in a way it works specifically for the Capulets in resj - the relationships they have are not healthy at all: they lack boundaries, can’t communicate, and can’t express their (familial) love until it’s too late.
Obviously, Tybalt doesn’t have a healthy relationship with his aunt and has some kind of weird attraction to her, possibly as a result of only caring (in general) about the Capulets. Yet he seems to listen to Lady Capulet in a way he doesn’t to Lord Capulet - Lady Capulet orders him to find Rómeó, and later presumably to kill him (when she talks to him in his room).
So, my point is that Tybalt, despite claiming that women are just objects, has the most important (and possibly only important) relationships with women.
Anyway Tybalt is messed up and complex and the Capulets are even more dysfunctional than in romeó et juliette send tweet.
#rómeó és júlia#resj#romeo es julia#tybalt#tybalt capulet#i did NOT expect this to be so long#i need a life#my point was originally just about og romeo and juliet tybalt and juliet being stifiled by gender roles but of course it turned into resj

R&J vs. RetJ: The Nurse’s Betrayal
So this meta of the Nurse’s betrayal of Juliet in RetJ got me thinking of how Presgurvic et al. translated that scene—the Nurse advising Juliet to marry Paris—from the Shakespeare, and how the characterization of the Nurse has changed as well.
In Shakespeare’s original, the Nurse goes on a mini tangent in which she reveals her reasons for wanting Juliet to marry Paris. I’m too lazy to reproduce it here, so here’s a quick and nasty paraphrase:
Paris is great, and Romeo sucks compared to him. It’s an upgrade!!!
Romeo would have to sneak into town to see Juliet and be a husband to her, and that’s not really tenable in the long run
Ergo, Juliet is as good as not married, leaving her free to start anew and marry Paris
Juliet, of course, manages to hold it together and waits until the Nurse leaves before cursing her a blue streak and resolving never to trust her again.
Notice how Shakespeare doesn’t allow the Nurse to give substantial reasons why Juliet should forget Romeo. Number 2 and 3 are merely practical while Number 1 is purely superficial, if consistent with the Nurse’s character and her remarks (liking Paris better than Romeo).
In Presgurvic’s musical, however, the Nurse does offer (1) substantial reason why Juliet should forget Romeo and marry Paris: As in, Romeo killed Tybalt. In the Original French, she has this key lyric:
Juliette, comment peux-tu encore (Juliette, how can you still)
L’aimer quand ton cousin est mort? (Love him, when your cousin is dead?)
Je t’en supplie, tu dois dire “oui” (I beg you, you must say yes)
À ce marie qu’on t’a promis (To this fiancé they have promised you to)
Why this change?
Well, for one thing, the context is amid the very dramatic Demain. Whereas in Shakespeare’s play this scene came in the aftermath of Lord Capulet’s ultimatum, the musical has the Nurse answer Juliette and decide right then and there.
For another, for better or for worse, the Nurse is a much more serious and less comically superficial character in the musical than in the play. In short, Presgurvic’s nurse is a de facto mother figure. Her love for Juliette is well-established in Et Voilà, which is heartbreaking in pretty much every version, but the French is particularly grieving. And sure enough, during Demain that we see French Nurse pacing, conflicted.
So when it comes to her betrayal of Juliet, the reason definitely need to be better than “Paris>>>>Romeo” as if this were a YA love triangle and the Nurse were choosing Team Paris. Hence, Romeo killing Tybalt being a dealbreaker.
Also, also notice that French Nurse says “your cousin” instead of Tybalt, emphasizing family ties. The feud in the musical is a lot more intense and consequential than in the play, so it makes sense that the Nurse would use that as a crutch for her argument—and for it to hold water.
Whether the Nurse truly believes that Romeo is no longer deserving of Juliette’s affections because of his killing of Tybalt (there is a bit of Anita’s “A Boy Like That” from West Side Story) or is merely using that as an incentive for Juliette to move on depends largely on the direction and actress. Hell, it can even be a bit of both.
Other versions either follow the French lead or, well, worse. Russian Nurse tells Juliette: “You killed love yourselves / Your cousin, Tybalt, is dead” and shares her verse with the Capulets. Italian Nurse clutches pearls: “My God, how can you tell me / You’ll go against your father?” and stands with the Capulet parents to form a trio (at least French and Russian Nurse stood apart!!!). Austrian Nurse is as diplomatic as the French Nurse, but once again she shares her verse with Lady Capulet and they duet.
And then there’s Hungarian Nurse.
The Strange Case of the Hungarian Nurse
The Hungarian Nurse is much thornier case, imo.
Throughout the musical she is a consistently warm and affectionate mother figure towards Juliette, if retaining key elements of Shakespeare!Nurse’s bawdiness and materialism. Whereas most Nurses scold Juliette for her “I want both” line, Hungarian Nurse is only affectionately amused and gently corrects her. She plays the protective Mama Bear with Rómeó, although it’s clear she approves of him.
Then Holnap/Demain comes. Hungarian Nurse is visibly worried, no doubt conflicted. She strokes Júlia’s face, but then flinches when Júlia embraces her. And her lyric is much harsher than in any of the versions so far:
Nurse. Mondd, hogy tudnád szeretni azt, ki képes volt ölni? (Tell me, how can you love a killer?)
Az Istenért, ne ellenkezz! Menj Páriszhoz, és ne kérdezz! (For God’s sake, don’t protest! Just marry Paris and don’t ask questions!)
Hungarian Nurse calls Rómeó a killer and not only exerts her to marry Paris, but to shut up and not ask any more questions.
So this is beyond the original French or even Shakespeare Nurse’s coldness. Even so, Hungarian Nurse doesn’t join the Capulet chorus but exits shortly afterwards. Why, Hungarian Nurse?
Occam’s Razor? Attila misconstrued the original French as harsher than it was and translated accordingly. Or he decided that it needed to be more ✨dramatic✨.
In-universe, though, Hungarian Nurse could be opting for some really tough love à la French. She recognizes the danger Júlia is in, what with being married secretly but without any of the protections of such a marriage, and wants to make sure she is provided for. She recognizes there is nothing she or Júlia can do to stop this wedding, so she is as harsh can be. Anything to break Júlia off of Rómeó.
Still, it’s a character break. French Nurse and other Nurses has at least been shown to be disciplined with Juliet for what she thinks is important (“Love is not marriage”). And even then her lyric is couched diplomatically. Hungarian Nurse seems too indulgent with Júlia to opt for such a slash-and-burn tactic.
I guess this is what happens when productions mix up both Shakespeare and Presgurvic canon. The Hungarian production wanted a version more in line with the Shakespeare characterization, which retains the social commentary of the feud and the rationale for the tragedy. It just happens to go against the softer Presgurvic characterization.
Either way, no matter how justified, both Shakespeare and Presgurvic achieve the same effect: It is a de facto betrayal of Juliet in a scene where the adults in her life fail and abandon her.
