I kind of want to either write or read a time travel fix-it fic where it's Tobirama who travels back in time - BUT it's not Tobirama's POV. He's only a side character. It's mainly focused on Madara and Hashirama. Occasionally Mito, Izuna, Touka

This post got real fucking long so here's a read more

Just a really funny fic where you never quite get to see what Tobirama is doing, because he's not the POV character and the other characters don't know/don't pay attention to what he's up to. But like he is doing important stuff yk he's taking advantage of that future knowledge

For example:

Madara and Hashirama meeting at the river. They've figured out/confessed to their respective clans and are discussing peace and who in their clan might or might not support them

Madara asks about Tobirama and Hashirama is like "Hm? Tobirama? Honestly I don't think he cares about the Senju-Uchiha war at all. He's far too occupied with his own war against the mold youkai."

"....The what?"

(It's not too obvious from Hashirama's POV that Tobirama keeps sneakily fucking up Zetsu's machinations, but what's significantly more difficult to ignore is that Tobirama is increasingly getting ambushed by White Zetsu drones ('mold youkai') - that he eliminates with extreme prejudice and alarming fury)

Just, stuff like that. Main plot is making peace, focused on most of the main family EXCEPT Tobirama (who is otherwise occupied and is thus rarely focused on much) and possibly Izuna. So it's all stuff about battles between the Senju and Uchiha, probably having to deal with internal issues as well (Butsuma/Tajima? Elders? Coup/assassination attempts?) and plotting how they could possibly get peace, it's stuff like negotiating with the Uzumaki + Mito's marriage to Hashirama, it's the Uchiha having to deal with one of their allied clans turning on them (barely noticed sub-plot during this where Tobirama is trying to prevent/rectify the sabotage Zetsu did to the Uchiha's fancy tablet), it's about planning for their eventual village (Hashirama finds notes on plumbing on his desk, written in Tobirama's hand - when the fuck did he have time for that? where did he even learn about plumbing?), it's about trying to get the Daimyo on side, it's about all the politics of trying to get other clans to move into the village too, it's about ah fuck bloodline thieves discovered there were plans for a shinobi village in the works and are doing a frantic attempt to kidnap/'harvest' as much as possible before the bloodline clans are too protected in the planned village so now we have to deal with this fucking trafficking ring...

The sub-plot is an Tobiizu fic where Izuna is (correctly) CONVINCED that Tobirama is Up To Something, and (incorrectly) decided it's malicious to the Uchiha et al, and has taken it upon himself to investigate and Stop Tobirama's Evil Plans At All Costs

Longsuffering Tobirama is far too busy for Izuna's bullshit. He's attempting to prevent/stop/counteract Zetsu's machinations, he's trying to kill Zetsu, he's trying to destroy the big old statue (yk the one I mean, idk what it's called, if it has a name), he's trying to make sure the bijuu are all safe and Won't get sealed into jinchuuruki OR the aforementioned statue...

(he gets distracted for a bit with a side project wherein he decides actually it would be really funny for him to convert the cave the big statue was in, into a place for the kyuubi to hang out. that takes him quite a while since he has to run Zetsu out (so many White Zetsu drones...), destroy the statue, alter the place accordingly, and then find and convince the kyuubi that actually this is a great idea - without the kyuubi just fucking eating him)

...he's trying to make life easier for Madara and Hashirama (oh, Butsuma died from a mysterious illness right before he could enact his incredibly stupid plan against the Uchiha? damn. what a shame. anyway-), he's having to reinvent everything he remembers from last time he lived through this shit because whilst some of those jutsus/techniques/inventions (cough, Edo Tensei, cough) aren't strictly necessary, some of them are VERY MUCH NEEDED

That takes. So much time. Luckily Tobirama doesn't have to do all the research over again, since he remembers it and it's incredibly unlikely anyone will call him out on it (....except Mito with regards to certain seals. he very begrudgingly does research and writes notes and invents plausible-mistakes-that-could-have-been-a-first-attempt) so for the most part he can skip straight to inventing or writing out the final project/knowledge

Some of Zetsu's machinations are incredibly annoying to counter, actually. Like at some point the blasted weed installed/had nearly installed a puppet ruler in Land of Water which, what? Why? Urgh

(Please imagine the absolutely incredible amounts of suspicion and incredulous disbelief and paranoia etc that Izuna is aiming Tobirama's way once he (eventually) discovers that the 'White Demon' is seemingly MESSING WITH POLITICS RE: WHO RULES A FOREIGN NATION?!?!?! is nobody else seeing this!! Izuna is NOT CRAZY look at this bullshit somebody needs to stop him-!)

So long story short Tobirama has a LOT on his plate and he is so so incredibly stressed. Somebody help this man. None of this shit is helped by the fact that

a) Zetsu realised very rapidly that someone was fucking with his plans, and promptly started trying to kill Tobirama off, or failing that, sabotage Tobirama's plans in turn

(thus the years long and increasingly violent 'war against mold youkai' that starts when Tobirama is like, ridiculously young, and Hashirama casually mentions to Madara)

b) Izuna. Just, Izuna. He's fucking obsessed with Tobirama (why) and also the most paranoid person ALIVE it sometimes seems, and he just, won't stop, sticking his nose in Tobirama's business, how does he seem to be fucking EVERYWHERE doesn't he have anything else to do it's not like Izuna even knows the shadow clone jutsu how is he doing this why-

(Izuna like. What could possibly be more important to my rival than ME. And anyway he can't possibly be doing anything GOOD so it's for the best I intervene really this is entirely altruistic-)

c) amongst all this, Tobirama still has to somehow maintain at least a vague, plausibly deniable, belief that he's like. A regular person, involved in only normal things. Because if anyone finds out what he's really doing, or what Zetsu really is, or that he's from the future (IZUNA GET YOUR NOSE OUT OF-), then that introduces just. SO MANY new moving parts and this is already fucking complicated enough as it is, alright? Yeah yeah yeah teamwork makes the dream work, two heads are better than one, etc, but this is essentially a war of information and manipulation between Zetsu and Tobirama and when your main power is info+manipulation the fucking LAST thing you want is more moving parts + more people who could leak info/know your info/unintentionally fuck up your (future) knowledge. No. As much as possible he has to do this on his own. Which means he needs to act like he's doing nothing at all. Actually spend time with his family, be seen running normal missions sometimes, help in clan matters, attend the Senju-Uchiha battles when relevant...

Which is all really really hard when there's only so much time in the day. And Zetsu doesn't have to worry about 'spending time with family' or anything so any time Tobirama spends doing that instead of working towards destroying Zetsu's shit is-

Over time Tobirama increasingly gets a handle on his terrifyingly long to-do list, which means that 'Izuna is being really annoying and following me almost all the time' moves up his priority list. Eventually Tobirama figures out that the easiest way to get Izuna to stop GETTING IN THE GODDAMN WAY is to just. Humour him. Give him attention. Yes yes you are the most important person in my life and all this inconvenient shit is just stopping me from devoting my energy to fighting you now if you could just put that lady over there under a genjutsu and- (Tobirama trying to get Izuna to help un-fuck Land of Water, it only sort of works)

At some point they fuck because Tobirama's stress levels are at an all-time high and he needs SOME sort of outlet. (Could be entirely sane+consensual (relatively. given who we're talking about) or it could be dubcon) and Izuna actually chills the fuck out for an entire ten hours afterwards. Amazing. Clearly they'll have to do this again

So they do

(yandere4yandere tobiizu for the win. Tobirama starts out normal (again, relatively, considering who we're talking about) whilst Izuna approached everything about Tobirama in a completely sideways obsessive way from the start, but Tobirama gradually starts to also get more obsessive/possessive over time. Like what do you mean the one person who has followed me unquestioningly for years and wants to kill me and kissed me yesterday and volunteered to help me fight a bijuu might LEAVE?? no. fuck you)

anyway back to 'things even further complicating Tobirama's life':

optional letter d) Tobirama is trying so hard to seem normal and not like he's from the future or fighting an evil mold-plant-creature that wants to revive his mom from the moon. So, so hard. But alas, facts work against him

Like, I mean, imagine from an in-universe perspective. There's this guy with really weird colouring, he's known as the 'White Demon', he's better at suiton than anyone else alive and if you've seen him even SLIGHTLY try it's terrifying (think: drowning on dry land, sudden rain/storm/tsunami, blood ripped from a dozen bodies in half as many seconds-), there's? more than one of him? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE and he's so fucking hard to kill but even when you kill him he just. doesn't. die. (friendly reminder that Tobirama is abusing shadow clones like nobody's business in an attempt to stay on top of his insane amount of work to do -> yk, the jutsu he invented, that doesn't work like any other clone jutsu, and that in this timeline he has thus far told nobody about. someone destroys a shadow clone and is incredibly alarmed that theres 1) no corpse 2) the White Demon is STILL ALIVE after they KNOW they killed him?!)

There's also rumours about him fighting/negotiating with bijuu, and quite a few witnesses to his ongoing war with 'mold youkai'

The majority of people (excepting like, people he's close to in his own clan, plus Izuna and possibly a few others) aren't sure he ever sleeps or eats or drinks, and wounds don't seem to last long (healing jutsu from the future + whilst he's sleeping/eating his shadow clone(s) are still out and about)

Then there's the insane amount of knowledge and jutsu and inventions he offers-

Long story short on top of everything else, Tobirama doesn't have to deal with people knowing he's from the future or about the whole issue with Zetsu

....He DOES have to deal with basically svery person in existence being 100% convinced he's not human, though

Yeah of course! Here’s a little comic that would take place just after gai gets an official post in the uchiha clan:

If your wondering what post he gets, he gets put in charge of training a selection of clan members that have yet to awaken their sharingan how to activate the gates, madara has a theory that releasing the limiters on the body’s of these soldiers may help to manually activate their sharingan or even allow them to temporarily manifest a mangekyou sharingan.

hc that the uchiha can create a fire warm enough to heat themselves up or dry themselves off, but the caveat is that creates a visible fire and appears as if the user is actually on fire, so they don't do it often

izuna, however, is a little shit and he would use that jutsu to every advantage he can. because think about a young izuna in battle when it's raining or something and his opponents are like what the fuck that uchiha kid just set himself on fire

maybe he'd use it on others, too, just those close to him like madara or other uchiha. madara is used to being in a meeting and knowing izuna is near because he's suddenly a lot warmer than before and the other clan heads are screaming in shock. he just sighs

but imagine izuna and tobirama are on a mission together, after the village is formed, and they end up in the cold. and izuna offers to use his warming jutsu to help tobirama heat up. imagine the shock of tobirama suddenly seeing flames dancing around his body without actually feeling burnt. he would need to know that jutsu more than he has needed anything ever

My goal for this piece, in addition to playing with patterns and textures and adding some Naruto references, was to add as many death flags as possible.

The idea of having Izuna in a fireman's coat is obviously not from me. I've always like the idea of Uchihas in fire resistant clothes, and the opportunity for a thick texture alongside a reversible double pattern is very appealing. I used the image of the second reference as a base, with skulls on one side and stylized lightning patterns on the other (visible inside the sleeves and collar). Both were common immagery of firemen coats.

The actual skull pattern is taken from the third reference. I'd seen this one before and before even learning anything abt it it was too beautiful to pass up. Those white and navy gradients are absolutely delightful and I enjoyed using my gel pens for them very much.... This particular type of imagery with skulls and bones in a field is called Nozarashi, inspired by Buddhist representation of death and transience.

The lightning pattern itself is a reference to water and lightning dragons :) Like Tobirama's iconic jutsu, it's one of the hints of what's abt to happen to our little guy. The scabbard is also decorated with dragon motifs for the same reason.

The background pattern is taken from the first reference, another fireman's coat with an illustration of Raijin, the thunder god. He is often representated with drums decorated with tomoes. It works nicely as a standard looking sharingan illustration, with a reference to Tobirama's hiraishingiris with the thunder imagery, like the thunder patterns inside the coat.

If you're interested in this I recommend the book linked in the second reference! It is entirely about skeleton motifs in japanese clothing of the early 20th century.

Writing a tobiizu time travel fix it fic, I wanna post it and get reviews but I want at least the first rough draft written 😭😭😭 their arguments are my favorite right now.

Wherein as a high caliber Sensor, Tobirama developed the ability to pinpoint out people who became psychopathic when it comes to their romantic partner/prospect.

Tobirama had first realized that something had been added to his Sensing ability.

And it all started with his Mother. Back then when all is well and good, he recalled he was only five years old when he felt the first time the spine tingling terror that shot through him when his Mother blankly stared at a civilian woman who dared to be friendly with his Father.

Mother and Father had fit to travel with him and Anija to the Capital to be introduced to the Daimyo. At the end of the week of their stay, Tobirama had vaguely recalled that the noble woman who giggles whenever Father was near her was found dead in her room. As a child it didn't really register to him that something was amiss when it happened because he was busy playing with Anija and training at that time.

But now that Tobirama is an Adult. He can now confirmed with utmost confidence that his Sensing includes knowing who becomes a Psychopath when it comes to their romantic partner.

Tobirama grimaces internally. He was loath to admit it, but his Mother is his first hard evidence of people with such extreme tendencies. He glances down at his scribbled notes with hidden codes sparsely written so no one would know of his rather personal investigation.....

Tobirama frowns deeply. Anija had been jotted down in his notes too..because he had also started to display his psychopathic tendencies. He hates to admit that he felt stupid and that it took so long for him to notice Anija's blank eyed stares when someone talks to Mito–neesan.

He shuddered in fright.

He doesn't dare to tell Mito-neesan about his speculation. Anija would probably bury him alive without killing him if he tried to warn Mito-neesan....

Tobirama bit his lips. He warily eyed the next names written underneath Anija's. Madara and Izuna had surprised him about their psychopathic tendencies. He doesn't know who are their prospects but Tobirama found himself under threatening looks whenever the Uchiha Brothers are near him. He had checked again and again with the people he had interacted with but so far as he found out... none of them had been the lover of the Uchiha Brothers...

So why is he getting hounded, furiously glared at and feeling like he's about to be killed whenever the Brothers circled around him?...

Tobirama rubbed his aching temples. Should he just hide for a month in his lab then?. So that whatever offensive thing he did would make The Uchiha Brothers forget if they can't see him?...

A single eerie knock on his lab door made Tobirama sit up in fright. His eyes nervously darted at his sealed door.

He cleared his throat and shook his head to get rid of his rattled nerves. " Who is it?. "

" Tobirama. Why are you hiding in your lab?. "

Tobirama felt the spine chilling fear shooting down his spine at hearing Izuna’s ominous question. He just knew, that it'll be an enormous mistake if he were to open his lab door.

" Uchiha. It has only been a day since I took an absence. I do not know what you need me for but just recruit Anija to help you or something. " Tobirama grimaced at his impatient tone. He didn't mean to sound dismissive but he really, really didn't want to talk to Izuna this day....preferably for a month even.

" Won't you invite us in then, Tobirama?. " Tobirama quickly stood up from his seat as he heard Madara’s voice behind the door. What in the world?...he was so sure, Izuna was the only person that was standing in front of his lab door. So where did the Elder Uchiha had come from?.

Tobirama with a dry throat swallowed nervously. " No Uchiha. I don't want the two of you entering my lab. Who knows what the two of you would accidentally destroy if you bumble around here. " he sneered in anger.

Ominous silence greeted his hateful answer.

Tobirama warily eyed his lab door. He cannot sense Madara and Izuna’s chakra behind it perhaps the Brothers had given up in pestering him?.

He decided to sit for a minute to rest his trembling legs but before he could do so...the spike of combine furious Chakra lashing out at his sensitive Sensing made him stumble on his feet and he crashes onto the ground with a hard thump. He felt dizzy and in pain as he accidentally bashed his head on his lab table when he crashed down.

He clutches his head as he wheezes painfully. The oppressive Chakra felt like it was burning him alive....

He tried to stand up, but his shaking limbs won't support him. He only had a second to realize that his doorknob had slowly rotated and an ominous click of it signified that it had been unlocked.

Tobirama stared terrified at the sandal clad feet that step over his lab barrier without any difficulty.

He slowly looked up at the Brother's furiously blazing Sharingan.

" That's not nice of you, Tobirama. " he tried to crawl away when the Elder Uchiha crouch down in front of him. But the suffocating grip on his neck made him freeze in his tracks.

" Guess its really time for him to be trained then?. What say you Aniki?. " Tobirama was instantly confused at that remark. What in the world was Izuna talking about?. What training?.

" For such a genius man. You are rather oblivious to our romantic intentions, Tobirama. " The blank eyed looks of both Uchiha Brothers made Tobirama gobsmacked that he forgot to even fight his way out of his impending doom.

With his aching head and spinning thoughts it took a second too late for him to avoid two sets of Sharingan that bulldozed its influence inside his mind like a roaring Tsunami crashing and devouring everything in its path.

And then.... Tobirama knew nothing anymore...

Sorry for the late answer. It's been a tough day.

I don't have a strong opinion on Izuna. Even now, I can't think of anything to say about his character. As I mentioned in another post, the story of Hashirama and Madara is mysterious, and the same can be said about his character.

I feel like Shisui is really 'hyped' by the fandom, despite not having much screen time in the manga. I can understand the appeal around him, though. Being Itachi's only friend (or at least his only known friend) makes him interesting, I think. He also had a strong reputation in the shinobi world, and his genjutsu was quite powerful. Ao even considered Shisui 'a formidable foe' and will never forget his chakra color. How old was Shisui at the time ? Probably not older than a teenager, right ?

Danzo made sure to destroy Shisui's eye, something Tobi wanted (the power of that Sharingan seems really interesting). Shisui's eye was able to break the Edo Tensei, and Kabuto also wanted it for himself. Itachi mentioned that Shisui knew there were people (like Danzo, Tobi, and Kabuto) who would fight to take his eyes. Even Bee called him the 'most powerful genjutsu user.' With all of this, you have to admit that Shisui could have been a great character to elaborate on. But I think it's also part of his charm that we don't know much about him (except that he shares the 'same integrity' as Naruto). I'm personally interested in him, but I have a hard time imagining him as a fully fleshed-out character. He seems to lack 'negative traits,' which makes it hard to see him as truly real.

I'll continue with Fugaku. I think I like him. He’s a stern and strict father, but he seems to care deeply for his family. He trusts Itachi and is proud of him, though he puts a lot of pressure on him. According to Mikoto, he was also very fond of Sasuke (who wouldn’t be? He was the cutest child in the world). I feel like Fugaku was a good person in a difficult situation, trying to make his voice heard in a village that often overlooked him. He wanted to be respected and taken seriously. Despite the discrimination, he stood strong and proud. Honestly, being the head of your clan is already tough, but with the added weight of discrimination and hatred, I can't even imagine how difficult it must have been for him.

Now, Itachi. I saved him for last because, honestly, I could talk about him for days. He was one of my favorite characters for a long time. Like his father, he was put in an impossible situation, torn between his clan and his village, with everyone trying to 'use' him in one way or another. He had to mature quickly. Did he even have a proper childhood? I think, after Shisui's death, he reached a point where he couldn’t make a good decision anymore. There’s a lot of tragedy in his character. I don’t think he could have made the right choice—probably because it was Hiruzen’s responsibility, in my opinion. I’m not sure how to explain it, but I think he must have hated himself quite a lot. Dying at Sasuke's hands felt like a punishment, and it was honestly really messed up. In my mind, Itachi wasn’t a very stable person. At least, when he came back as Edo Tensei, he realized his mistakes and gave Sasuke the real closure he needed (poor boy really did need it). Itachi’s character is so complex, which is why I like him.

Something something Uzumaki chakra having an strange effect on Nagato's eyes, originally Izuna's, which cause him to see Izuna's ghost haunting him (as he is tethered to the mortal plain by his own eyes). First, only as a figure at the corner of his vision, then something clearer, yet still blurry, until eventually it takes the shape of a man. A strange man, invisible to others, that is always shadowing his steps. He thought it was normal at first, that everybody had their own silent watcher, but later found out it was something unique to him. The man doesn't seem to realize that Nagato can see him, and doesn't seem to hear him either. Or anything in fact, as if he was unconscious, yet he walks and looks at the world with glassy eyes.

Once Nagato starts training with Jiraiya and his chakra develops, the silent man becomes more solid, still unseen by others, but also more present, Nagato observes as the watcher grows more and more aware each day. He sees flickers of confusion from time to time, but then the man becomes a ghost once again. Sometimes he'd walk, restless, then stop, and drift. Until, one day, his awareness lasts enough for him to notice Nagato.

"Rinnegan," he whispers, then "Uzumaki."

His eyes glaze over before he can say anything else. Only then Nagato realizes how expressive the man could be, how clearly he could see the surprise, awe, fear, and finally disdain on his face.

For the first time in his life, Nagato is afraid of the watcher.

Izuna is surrounded by Senju and despises it. Get him OUT of there !!!! He daydreams of a universe where they'd been halved as children (read: canon) so that his life might be easier. (Little does he know)

Itama is the only Senju he (can admit to) stand

Izuna having more than just Tobirama to fixate on is such a fun thought tho. Eldest child Kawarama vs youngest child Izuna, battle of the century. Kawa is so used to Itama and Tobirama's baby brother energy, he is immune to Izuna's brat tendencies

Do u think Izuna hates him more bc he reminds him of Tobirama? Id like to think that even in a world where Kawarama and Itama survive, Izuna and Tobirama are still head to head rivals (mostly bc I tend to dislike aus where they take away important aspects and relationships of characters, like their rivalry)

Izuna manages to go so long without meeting Kawarama one on one (Madara probably works very hard to keep the so-called 'Senju Hound' away from his baby brother on the field) then finally meets him as an adult and it's just hate on sight. He is everything Izuna finds insufferable in Tobirama (cold, hard to read, hard to provoke) but somehow even WORSE

Izuna hates him and hopes he dies in a fire.

Konoha is formed and Izuna learns Tobirama is actually somewhat easy to provoke once he learns the right buttons (and delights in making him mad)

But Kawrama, despite his naturally angry looking face, remains seemingly impossible to truly shake. Izuna HATES it!! How dare the Senju escape his button pushing clutches... he must find out a way to throw him off his game, even if it kills him

(Sorry I took so long to answer this I wanted to finish a lil comic I’ve been working on that basically contains what would have been the first meeting of madara and gai in the fic but that is going to take a fair bit longer so I hope you don’t mind me just answering with some doodles)

first up the dynamic between the founders, gai and kakashi is as follows:

The black haired guy at the top middle is kakashi he actually is in disguise most of the story because he’s trying to be really careful and not alter the timeline too much.

This causes its own set of problems when gai after being told by kakashi to stay put and not interact with anyone (gai was not meant to join kakashi in the past and they weren’t meant to go back so far so kakashi is a bit disoriented) mistakes madara for his eternal rival and interferes with an ambush to help him escape unscathed. Madara witnesses here the 6th gate for the first time and decides to kidnap gai and keep him as a prisoner until he’s figured out what the heck gai did to spontaneously get stronger.

Gai tries to figure out the lest future changey way of escaping and finding the real kakashi while madara tries to figure out gais deal generally. Eventually gai agrees to spar with madara on the condition that madara sends people to search for his rival.

Their sparing matches are actually really interesting! Gai is exceptional at countering the sharingan but madara is a far more experienced fighter both of them are a fan of a good fight so they actually end up growing closer through these fights (this relationship development would actually have been a large part of the story)it doesn’t help that they both remind each other of their respective rivals, so they sort of fall into a closer relationship than they would naturally because they both miss them so much.

Their would likely be dashes of madagai in this story but ultimately they’re not each other’s endgame so it would only really manifest in like madaras musings about what a world where they got together might look like. As well as the occasional crisis of faith from gai where he weirdly feels like he’s cheating on kakashi despite them not actually being together till the end of the story.

So yeah hopefully that illuminates the dynamic a bit more :]

Both handsome, so good for their boy 😆 but I would argue there isn’t much resemblance to Tenko at all, unlike with their daughter. She very well could be Tenko’s own daughter
