The Wolf and The Fox

Okay so a lot of people here are discussing The Fox and The Hound being Odin’s fairytale, which is valid, but also that was a Disney version, and if Gil is any indication, we know that Michelle is using the harsher originals. So I’ve taken it upon myself to do some research for y’all and share my findings.

First off, Odin is not based on The Fox and The Hound. I’m 99% certain. When I looked up what that movie was based on, google showed me that The Fox and The Hound is an actual novel that the movie derivates from, and the story we’’re looking for is The Wolf and The Fox.

Straight up searching The Wolf and The Fox fairytale’ did reveal some answers though. This wikipedia article, though short, explains the synopsis of the story. 

“The Wolf and The Fox is a german fairytale collected by the Brothers’ Grimm. This story involves a greedy, gluttonous wolf living with a fox. The wolf makes the fox do all his work and threatens to eat him if he doesn’t comply. The fox, in turn, devises a scheme to rid himself of the wolf.”

Seems pretty fitting, but it only gets more fitting once we begin speculating what this means. (Having a new fairytale to draw parallels to has been a really fun time.) The main goal right now is to determine who is the wolf and the fox. 

For those of you interested in more detail, a (low quality) iumage of the synopsis is above. My original thought was that the main characters would be Odin and Ava since they’ve been getting closer recently, but after reading the synopsis, it’s definitely about Odin and Olai. Now it’s time to make those speculations more concrete with evidence. 

So I couldn’t find an image for this, but we know that the Arrow family crest is a wolf and currently Olai holds the most power and association with the crest as the eldest.

After rereading some of Odin’s panels, it’s clear that he doesn’t really feel like a part of the family / welcome there, at least when it comes to Olai. (Probably because of the ice incident mixed with other reasons.) So it’s safe to assume that Olai is the greedy/gluttonous wolf. 

Which automatically makes Odin the fox but wait we also have evidence for that.

First of all, and this is minor but, Odin doodles foxes, not wolves. (We know it’s a fox by the line on the tail representing the colour shift foxes have there.)

Plus there’s also this post by @gilodins with a small collection of AvaOdin fox symbolism, which I’m interpreting as saying Odin’s the fox.

06/02/2020 - Reflection of today I have sorted out some alpha maps for use in the future with my substance projects, which is benefitial for this project as well as others. I am trying to crack off some things that were left last semester before diving into the environmental art, I still have some texturing to do for the guns and the last bit of texturing for the pick ups. Once this is complete then I can focus on the next act, my work so far has been slow, but beneficial to both my own work and the game, Concepting the idea in photoshop allows for me to visualise the assets before I make them, its a vital tool I use when creating assets and is something I will do in the future of my career, as having an iumage to go off makes modelling and texturing a lot easier so that I can get work done quickly and efficiently.
