the difference in Percy's water healing power in the show vs the movie is actually kind of interesting because while subtle, in the show the water heals his injury and then his blood is washed away, but in the movie you can actually see the water push Percy's blood back inside his body as its healing him... and I cannot believe I'm saying this but I think I like the movie's depiction of this power more because of that???

#also I think the effect in the movie is more obvious than in the show #which I kinda like too #honestly I didn't even realize what the movie had done before I saw what the show did instead #but it makes just SO MUCH SENSE from a healing standpoint to push the blood back inside????#so he's not dealing with the effects of blood loss???#its very interesting!!#it would also makes sense why every time percy gets injured the moment he's in water he's like:#/WOW! can we talk about how Tim meets himself as gun batman who's entire philosophy is that sometimes you have to take extreme measures and the only way to stop crime is to kill. And then literally a few months later Jason shows up and the red hood operates on the exact same philosophy but in a more morally ambiguous way (re: not being a facist dictator tyrant)

there's something about butches reclaiming protectiveness and chivalry from an imposed "caring, nurturing" character associated and often forced upon women. something about how while straight men often try to present as careless as possible, masculinity and care are not only not conflicting in the butch identity, but inherent to it. there's something there.

i think it's really an essential skill for anyone - but especially communists - to be able to really accept the fact (and this might sound obvious to you) that people can be right about some things and like. horribly wrong about others! somebody can have something worthwhile to say about sexuality and have horrible takes about race. somebody can something worthwhile to say about race but horrible takes about economics. and while like - it's absolutely true that the beliefs people hold are not independent of one another and will thus in turn affect one another - what i really mean more is that i don't think it's useful to completely dismiss everything a person has to say because of a completely separate bad take they have. i guess this is a roundabout way of saying we should be doing our best to evaluate the things people say based solely on what they are saying, not based on preconceived notions we might have of them or their other past takes.

(there is obviously exceptions to this rule - for example, it's right to be very wary of any discussions about sex work coming from a radfem, for example - context is always important. but you get what i mean)

I got pretty emotional making this one! Fruits Basket had a huge, profound effect on me in my teens, and I often curled up with it for comfort and a sense of companionship during hard times. Now as an adult, it's been a while since I've read the whole series through, but I pick up random volumes fairly often and skim through them to get that familiar rush of warmth. It's still such a lovely series!
