i've seen takes that are like "goro doesn't actually like philosophy it's just part of the detective prince mask and he stops being interested in it after third sem" which i think they get from him misquoting hegel (which imo was probably just a mistake on atlus' part? but if not then goro was definitely doing it on purpose as a test.) but it's like. you literally understand nothing about my boi if you think that. goro loves thinking. he loves solving puzzles. he thinks most of philosophy is pretentious bullshit but that's only after reading every major philosopher and developing a hot take on all of them. all he does whenever you invite him to the jazz club in third sem is talk philosophy. every conversation he's saying bullshit like "what if the happiness of one individual relies on the unhappiness of another?" he's a stupid fucking NERD ok like come on

dark justiciar shadowheart is genuinely so interesting to me as like... a facet to her character. like it really hammers home how desperate she is for shar's love and affection (+ the validation and love from other worshipers of shar). like in a lot of ways I get that it seems shocking to others / some fans because it really does contradict some of the morals we see her express BUT imo that just speaks to the level of desperation she feels. her comments on how shar "must" love her for her to survive the shadowcursed lands, or the bit where she talks about shar nurturing her and loving her and sounds... almost more like shes trying to convince herself more than shes trying to convince you. theres a bit about other sharrans not thinking she had earned her name, and of course the mother superior not thinking she was ready / worthy of being a dark justiciar. like shes just so completely desperate to feel unconditionally and securely loved, and to earn the approval of others that shes entirely willing to injure herself in the process (as well as.... the people who actually love her, of course).
not to mention that mechanically, afaik, she can only end up there if shes encouraged to by the player. ie... she needs to know someone else approves.

i think honestly what irritates me about yoshidas work SO much is that people will tell you that banana fish is THE gay manga (ignoring the many things that came before it and were more groundbreaking, ie MW literally having on screen (or like. on panel but still.) gay sex in it and that came out like a decade before BF did) when there really isn't barely any gay rep outside of the pedophiles and the one time ash drops the f slur. like im sorry but somehow yasha, a work she wrote in 1996, has more gay rep in it but also has the same issues.
i truly do not get how people can enjoy banana fish with the rampant racism every 2 pages or the rampant sexual assault plotlines (on women and ash bc he is just... written like how yoshida writes women lmao) that are handled IMPOSSIBLY bad and sincerely i hoped yasha would be better because it had been like a decade or so between works. and then it proceeds to continue with the heres our blonde genius protagonist who everyone is weird as fuck to and will sexually harrass and everyone finds it a VERY funny joke to point out how feminine he is when theres barely any women in the work (if you exclude the ones that are being raped/killed/creepy to minors. which to be fair yasha has toned down the sa a LOT) and that its funny that hes kind of gay except not really!! and its just absurd to me how it just persists in all of her stuff because she is not an author that handles gay stuff well. like the scene in banana fish where ash is completely ok getting gang raped and did it solely to get into the hospital when its been SHOWN that he has a lot of trauma with that. and then right after his friend makes a joke at ash's expense about that. like sincerely and genuinely is this what we are hyping up as the old retro gay manga. go read some tezuka and stop reading shit that the most the main characters do is share a kiss in a nonromantic sense and is obsessed w making every gay person be evil!!

I was in a vc with some people I know and one of them was like "I'm drawing Springtrap right now bc I love your art and am caffinated and stimming was not enough," and all I could say was, "Please don't, I'm trying to work on other things," and then I started drawing him too.
Late night drawing alongside friends kind of helped me to not worry about the art though. I was just putting the ideas down without really thinking what parts were right and wrong so it didn't feel like I was forcing anything and wasn't stressing about it being perfect.

*kisses your brain* I am BEYOND interested in seeing the interview clips that inspired/back up your thoughts and analysis
aw yay!!! im so glad this is interesting to more than just me LOL
if any particular essays/ideas pique ur interest, i can give u a deeper dive into any of them with more clips & links, but for now under the cut i'll do a couple of short recs for each:
A Wolf in Deer's Clothing
oliver's deceit (and portrayal as a prey animal) was much more obvious in the movie, but getting to the crux of felix's role as a false-angel was heavily inspired by:
this interview where jacob dives into felix's need to be needed and seen as a savior, and
this scene breakdown with emerald, where she points out felix's desire for power masquerading as kindness
A Midsummer Night's Mare
this essay in particular is in response to the general fandom impression that oliver being drawn toward farleigh is anything but a horrific extension of his existing obsession toward felix and this was most heavily influenced by my own eyes and my ability to identify sexual assault when i see it (LOL) as well as:
this collider interview with archie madekwe where he talks about the development of farleigh's relationship with oliver, and even more importantly to my point, the catharsis farleigh gets from coming back and saying his piece at the midsummer night's party
The Eye of the Beholder
i've got a million interviews i could give you where emerald talks about the voyeurism in saltburn, but i think these details come out most when she's doing scene breakdowns and particularly in:
this moment of a vanity fair interview where she picks apart the details of the house that saltburn was filmed in, and the nature of the people that live inside of it and this bit from the same interview where she talks about the exhibitionist nature of the bathroom setup
this esquire interview where emerald lets us in on the workings of the house and how nothing can be private
sidenote: these two scene breakdown interviews are two of my favorites that i've seen come out of this movie, so i definitely recommend them in their entirety if you're at all interested!
Gender-Fluid
this might be my favorite topic on this list and the one that i think is most important and i'm SO GLAD that emerald has had some really great interviews where she gets to talk about these things. my favorite being:
this reign interview with josh smith that i really can't recommend enough, where emerald brings up the way women's bodies are used and objectified in film and addresses and challenges the "shock" that people claim to feel after seeing saltburn
THOSE!!! are my starter recommendations!!! but like i said at the beginning of this post, if you have anything in particular that you really want to dive deeper into, just lmk!! <333

since life spells are cast w songs i think musicology shares a lot of similarities with it but the difference comes in with the use of instrumentation. life magic is more about the caster's vocals while musicology channels their magic thru an instrument. which adds a distinction of natural/artificial between the two.
