𝐒𝐎 𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐍 | 𝐑𝐔𝐓𝐆𝐄𝐑 𝐌𝐂𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐘
word count: 1.35k
summary: on your way to the spend a weekend at the lake house with his teammates, you think about your future with rutger
warnings: british reader!, mentions of some other umich players (nick, duke brothers), brief sad thoughts
notes: based on 'so american' by olivia rodrigo. who am i if not writing fics based on songs.
The morning sun was beginning to rise, casting a golden hue on Rutger’s jeep that rumbled down the highway, its tires humming against the asphalt. Rutger sat in the driver's seat, his left hand holding a loose grip on the wheel, while you sat comfortably in the passenger seat, your feet were propped up on the dashboard. Rutger insisted you hit the road early to get to Jacob’s lake house around mid-morning. You felt that was a little too early, but he was excited to spend some spare time at the end of the semester with his friends and girlfriend, relaxing on the water. To make up for the early start time, Rutger bought you an iced coffee and promised that you could sleep in the car on the way over.
However, you couldn’t find yourself able to fall back asleep, instead taking over aux, the early morning air that flowed through the cracked windows helping to rejuvenate you. You tapped your fingers against the door handle, matching the beat of the song you’d selected. Dirt On My Boots by Jon Pardi filled the space, a contented smile gracing your lips.
“You’ve turned so American.” Rutger says, pulling your brain out of its brief daze.
“What?” You ask, your brows furrowing.
“I mean… look at you,” Rutger says with a chuckle. “You’re sitting there with your feet on the dash, you’re listening to country music, and you’re repping USA merch.”
Rutger motions to one of his hoodies that you’d thrown on as you were leaving. It was one given to him by the world juniors team he’d just played on, the letters U-S-A largely displayed on the chest.
You turned to him, adjusting your position in the seat. "Oh, please, don't say that. I'm still very much British, thank you very much." You retort, rejecting the idea that you’d become American in any way.
When you applied for an exchange to the University of Michigan, nothing could’ve prepared you for what would’ve come. On your first day of classes in the new country, you met Rutger. When a pretty girl sat next to him in one of his classes, he knew he had to talk to her. It didn’t take long for the two of you to develop feelings, Rutger soon being the ‘dreamy American’ that your friends had jokingly told you you’d fall for. And fall for him you did.
It was unfair of Rutger to make you feel this much when you both knew your future was uncertain.
“Hey, there is nothing wrong with being American.” Rutger points out.
“Yeah says the American.” You tease, rolling your eyes. “Thank god I’m going home soon. I need to reconnect with my roots if you think I’ve become American.”
Despite that being a joke, you couldn't shake the underlying sadness that gnawed at you. In just one week, you were leaving Michigan and returning to the UK. The thought of leaving Rutger and the life you’d established in Michigan weighed heavily on your heart. You knew that the bond you’d established with Rutger would withstand the miles and borders, however the prospect of being separated from him felt like tearing away a piece of you.
Rutger, sensing the shift in your demeanour as well as knowing that the inevitable move was weighing on you, reached over, taking your hand in his. His cold fingers lacing between yours quickly drew you back to reality.
“Hey,” He said softly. “Try not to think about it for now. Enjoy this weekend. We’ve got ages to figure it all out.”
You squeezed Rutger’s hand drawing comfort from his touch. With a gentle smile, you met his gaze, gratitude shining in your eyes. “Thank you, Rut.” You said softly.
Rutger returned your smile, turning his attention back to the road while keeping your hand in his. You continued the drive, doing your best to expel the thoughts of leaving from your mind.
Three hours later, Rutger pulled down a laneway that ultimately led to a large house on the water. Rutger’s teammates were already outside, eagerly awaiting your arrival.
“Hey guys!” Rutger called out as they stepped out of the car. Rutger’s teammates come over, greeting the two of them.
“This place is beautiful.” You comment, admiring the glimpse of the water you could see past the house.
“God, I will never get over the accent.” Nick said. Rutger shoved his shoulder while you playfully rolled your eyes.
You considered yourself lucky that you’d become friends with Rutger’s teammates. From the moment Rutger introduced you to them, they’d welcomed you with open arms. And as you spent more time with them, they weren’t just Rutger’s teammates, they were your friends as well.
“Alright, now go get changed, we’re hitting the water.” Luca said, ushering the two of you inside.
You headed up to your room, changed into the swimsuits you’d brought, and then headed downstairs to meet the rest of the group. The rest of the afternoon, you guys remained on the water. You all took turns on the tube, as well as some of the boys deciding to test their water skiing skills. When the sun began to descend towards the horizon, a golden hue being cast on the water, you headed back to the house to start dinner, which was a full team activity in which everyone was put to work doing something. You and Rutger were put in charge of the barbecue on the back patio, teaming up with Dylan and Tyler to grill the burgers and corn.
After dinner was demolished, you headed down to the fire pit, relaxing in the Adirondack chairs, talking about whatever came to mind. The flames cast flickering glows on everyone's faces as you discussed sports, your exams, and random childhood anecdotes whether relevant or not. After a while of drinking and chatting, both you and Rutger hit your limits and decide to call it a night.
The second that Rutger’s head hits the pillow, he’s out like a light, the day’s activities catching up with him. After a full day of tubing and waterskiing, combined with the drinks they’d consumed throughout the day, everyone was wiped. You, however, lay awake, the moonlight reflecting off the water and into the open window.
You traced your fingers through Rutger's hair, watching his bare chest rise and fall with steady breaths. With the tranquillity of the room enveloping you, you find yourself lost in a maze of thoughts, your mind swirling with visions of Rutger and the future they could share.
England was home. England was where you grew up, where your family and friends still resided. The thought of leaving them to be in North America made your heart tense. However, lying in the sheets and staring up at the ceiling, you couldn’t help but imagine moving to North America to be with Rutger. As you look over at him, still peacefully asleep, you imagine the prospect of uprooting your life for the American boy you fell in love with, of bridging the distance to be with Rutger.
Your thoughts continue to wander, picturing what could come of life in America with Rutger. Your mind entertains the notion of marriage, a distant yet possible milestone. That might be a little presumptuous of you, with your relationship still being in its infancy, but you practically couldn’t help it. The way he’d made you feel in the past 8 months was unlike anything you’d ever experienced before. Every moment with him felt like a moment torn from a romance book. Every moment with him was filled with laughter and stolen glances, creating an undeniable intimacy and connection.
You had to eventually force those thoughts out of your mind or else they would’ve kept you up all night. You rolled over, curling into Rutger’s side, and placing a delicate hand on his abs. Rutger stirred momentarily, instinctively wrapping his arm around you, drawing you closer. For now, you were content to simply be in this moment with him, cherishing the time you had left before you had to return home.

Tighnari | Ephialtes
ıllı Synopsis: Nightmares can impact a person’s state of mind. It often terrorize us even in the waking world. For the calm and collected Tighnari, how would he face the night terrors that displayed his greatest fears?
ıllı Genre: Reverse Comfort, Romance, Slight Angst
ıllı Notes: Gender Neutral Reader
ıllı Warning: Use of pet names
ıllı A/N: I’m sorry it took this long to finish and publish this one. Work had been hectic these days, and it was difficult to adjust to new places. Still, I’m glad I finally finished this! Oh, and goodluck to those who will be pulling for this patch!
Dreams are images and stories the mind creates when people sleep. They are manifestations of the unconscious desires, fears, and wishes for the present.
For the people of Sumeru, they prided themselves on the fact that they did not dream and treated it as a sign of maturity— leaving behind traces of their childish selves. However, that notion changed when the Dendro Archon was saved by the infamous Traveler from the clutches of the scheming Sages. The all-knowing leaders of the Akademiya were far too ambitious that they forgot the true meaning of wisdom. They were forced to vacate their positions and repent for their sins of locking up their god to act in her stead and abusing the Akasha System. With them gone, the young goddess decided to halt the operation of the Akasha to prevent similar incidents in the future and let the people of Sumeru seek true knowledge and wisdom by themselves.
Like a newly born fowl, the people of Sumeru had difficulty finding their footing at the loss of a convenient tool. It took time to adjust to the changes established in the nation. Students started to extensively utilize the library, gathering tons of books back to their tables to search for notable information for their theses. Merchants and buyers were no different, but fortunate as it is, public libraries were readily available for their perusal.
The Nation of Wisdom changed not only in its government and economy, but also with dreams. Their sleep was now accompanied by dreams. In the vivid world of their mind, they could envision ideas they could not in the waking world. Adults who found themselves exhausted at the end of the day found solace in their rest. However, not all dreams were rose-colored. Those who did not escape the clutches of nightmare were plunged into the darkness where they come face-to-face with their trepidation.
Forest Watcher Tighnari was one of its victims.
“Tighnari! Look out!” The fennec fox heard from behind. Before he could process what was happening, a hand shoved him to the ground followed by an agonizing scream. His eyes turned to the person who pushed him away and saw your electrified figure. The pain was evident in your eyes as you desperately tried to keep your consciousness up. However, your vision slowly darkened, and you lost feeling in your arms and legs.
“(Y/N)!” Tighnari called, catching your body in his arms. He could feel the electricity bite him, but he did not care. He shouted your name once more, but it fell on deaf ears. Patches of scorched skin littered your body, and his hands shook in fear. This scene was all too familiar.
‘T-This… Is this what happened back in Pardis Dhyai?’ He thought to himself. His dual-toned orbs quickly glanced around. Dead Fatui soldiers could be seen ahead, but the glass-stained dome of Pardis Dhyai and the Padisarahs around confirmed his assumption.
Tighnari bit his lips in dread and reached out to check for your pulse. It was weak. His heart constricted at the sight of your fallen body. Losing you was and would never be an option. Immediately, he took out his first aid kid and started working on your injuries. Weakly opening your eyes, you gently held his left cheek.
“I… I’m sorry, ‘Nari. I think… this is it for…me.” Tighnari lost it. He clutched your hand and assured you that he would treat you. That you two would be home in no time, safe and sound. A small smile made its way to your lips before your hold debilitated. He sought to save you, but it was too late.
‘No… No! No! Please no!’
The Forest Watcher woke up with a start, huffing out as he searched for your figure beside him. There you were, sleeping soundly as the night went on. He let out a shaky relieved sigh before settling back into bed and pulling you closer to his chest. His hands were clammy, but having you in his arms was enough to calm him down. Feeling the heat, you opened your eyes and noticed the uneasy look on your lover’s face.
“‘Nari…? Are you all right?” You rasped, holding his right cheek in worry. His ears twitched at your voice but opted to nuzzle in your warmth. He simply continued his ministrations. Unable to fully understand his actions, you let him be.
“I’m all right. Sleep some more, Little Lotus. I’ll always be here.” He muttered. Eventually, you drifted back to sleep with the help of the sound of steady heartbeat. Tighnari smiled and kissed the crown of your head.
You were here. Alive in his arms.
The following day, you were met with a finicky Tighnari who accompanied you on patrols and fussed over the smallest of injuries. It was unlike him to be overprotective, but it felt like a switch had been flipped for him to act as such. You did not know where it stemmed from, so you let the fennec fox worry but not without assuring him that your injuries were nothing to be upset with. Nonetheless, he still applied ointments to the scratches and light wounds on your arms and shin.
“Thanks, Love. It really doesn’t hurt, but let’s go home and help out Collei with her homework. I could tell you left her a challenging one.” You teased. He sighed and let a small smile paint his lips. Dragging him home, you swiftly called out to the young lady that you would help her out with the task Tighnari assigned for the day.
Days later, you met up with a junior from your Darshan who was curious about the Forest Ranger’s responsibilities. It seemed like she had been having difficulties deciding whether she should continue with her current course or shift to another. It had been a lengthy discussion, and at one point, she even considered joining the Adventurer’s Guild instead. You urged her to take a three-day immersion with the guild, rangers, and research facility of the other Darshan she had been contemplating shifting to.
Tighnari heard about it and was curious about what you would do if you were in her position. You pondered about it.
“If I’m in the Adventurer’s Guild, I’ll be able to meet new people along the way. I get to travel far and wide despite the dangerous missions I may receive. Not to mention, Cyno told me that they hold interesting events every now and then. If I recall correctly, he said that they’re holding the King of Invocation event this year. Isn’t that interesting? ‘Nari, do you— Why do you look like a constipated Kaveh?” You raised an eyebrow in concern. His ears were up, his tail was raised, his forehead was scrunched up, and the frown on his lips was like that of Kaveh’s whenever he was frustrated with Alhaitham.
“Being a Forest Ranger is better. I’m sure you’ve seen that. We get to interact with nature, help out people who traverse the forest, protect the fauna and flora of Sumeru, and even research interesting stuff from the desert.” He chided. You tilted your head in confusion.
“Uh-huh… Where is this coming from?”
“I’m not yet done. The Forest Rangers also get to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. That’s with the consideration of overconsumption in line too. Also, we—“ You figured he must have misunderstood your answer that you would shift to being an adventurer instead. Holding his hand, you asked him to sit down for a while.
“I’m not considering it, Love. Being a Forest Ranger with you here is a blessing for me. Why would I ask for more? So you don’t have to feel queasy about it.” You replied. Tighnari was silent for a moment before apologizing.
Shaking your head, you took out a scroll from your hand and laid it on his lap. It was a layout of the giant ruin guard in Mount Devantaka. Strangely enough, a cyan Aranara appeared before you and gladly assisted you around. You got to see the flourishing plants underground and even explore the insides of the magnificent structure residing in the mountain.
“I still can’t believe an Aranara appeared before you. When will it be my turn?” He pouted. You laughed and patted his head.
“Maybe next time, ‘Nari. Maybe.”
The following weeks had been uneventful for the both of you. Wake up, eat breakfast, shower, go on patrol, come home, cook, shower, and sleep again. This mundane cycle along with occasional visits from Cyno and Kaveh repeated itself like a Samsara. It soon changed when the scholars from the Akademiya nominated your lover as Amurta’s representative for the InterDarshan Competition.
Tighnari was reluctant to accept such proposition as he seemed to see no benefit from it aside from spending time with his friends, but you pointed out that it could serve as a catalyst to spread the word about the seminar on Sumeru’s fauna you two had cooked up days prior. You presumed that people might have already gotten bored of the usual talk on plants, so why not tackle the discourse on animals considering that there were quite a number of people interested in keeping pets around the city. They just lacked the information on how to properly take care of them.
“I guess you’re right. Well then, I’ll participate in the games, but I honestly don’t expect to win. Just spreading the word about our upcoming seminar is enough. Maybe you could invite Candace and Dehya to our talk too?” He urged. Your eyes lit up at the idea and immediately planned the date go personally travel to Aaru Village.
“Oh, I should bring some cookies for them! Dehya had been bugging me about it.” You grinned. Tighnari shook his head and kissed the crown of your head. You were too adorable for him.
“Sure, Little Lotus. Let’s go to sleep?” He asked. You nodded your head and pulled him to bed. He curled his tail around you and not even five minutes have passed, you were out like light. The warmth he exuded comforted you, a reminder that he would always be there. That he loved you to bits.
Tighnari’s eyes lingered a bit longer on your relaxed figure. His thoughts made him question what he did to be this lucky to have you as his partner. When he was still a student, entering into a relationship did not cross his mind. He was simply focused on the goal of graduating. His parents would ask him here and there, but it was extremely rare. Only when he spent time with you in your final year did he find love.
“You don’t know how grateful I am to have you, (Y/N). You make every day worth it.” He whispered, sleep finally creeping into his mind.
‘I can’t envision a world without you in it.’
Time ticked slowly that night. Seconds turned to minutes before they turned to hours. Tighnari had been in a relaxed state, unknowing of the night terror ready to visit him. His dream that night started off normal with you and him visiting Vimara Village to inspect a leyline problem around it. Nothing seemed to be wrong until you met up with Alhaitham in Port Ormos for a special package from the desert.
You appeared normal to him, holding the same soft smile he admired, but Alhaitham had a different look. He suspected something was wrong when the man clad in green dipped down and whispered in your ear. It was too quiet for him to pick up, but based on the reaction on your face, it was something serious. You nervously gazed at Tighnari’s dual-toned eyes, gulping down the nervousness and grabbing his hand to pull him to a secluded area.
“I… Tighnari, I— I’m sorry. I think we should break up.” You finally revealed. The Forest Watcher was stomped. He calmly demanded the reason for it.
“Care to tell me the reason, Little Lotus? Why are you suddenly pulling this stunt?” His voice lightly cracked at the end of it. Tears trailed down your cheeks.
“I just don’t see the future I wanted with you anymore. I’ve grown tired and—“
“And you think that future is now with Alhaitham? Is that what you mean to say, (Y/N)?” A dangerous glint in his eyes shone, and your voice hitched at the intense gaze. The words you wished to voice died in your lips, but courage allowed you to at least respond with a weak nod.
Tighnari was stunned. He did not expect to see the person he loved for nearly five years slowly drift away from his arms and move to a new person. He did not know where it went wrong. He did not recognize the signs. Heck, it felt like his reality was distorted by his fears.
“I’m sorry.”
“(Y/N), don’t—!” He reached out, only to wake up in the real world. Sweat rolled down his forehead as he breathed out heavily. His hair stuck to his forehead, so he pushed them back before glancing at you. His mind was still transfixed at the dream he witnessed, too surreal for his heart.
‘I… They’re not going to leave me, right? They promised me, and I vowed the same. But what if they were already suffocating without me knowing? What if—‘ His thoughts raged on for the night. Unconsciously, he kept a tight hold on your hand. Sleep evaded him, and even when he felt exhausted, he feared closing his eyes. He presumed that if he were to fall into a dream state again, he would truly lose you.
Soon, the sun came and met the horizon, lighting the room you two shared. A stray light hit your face, and you were forced to wake up. You thought Tighnari would still be asleep, but there he was, looking disheartened and worried. You groggily sat up and asked what was wrong. The fennec fox reluctantly looked at you before nuzzling his head to your neck.
“A nightmare. A very bad one.” He muttered. It was distressing to see him act like a hurt kit, so you gently combed through his hair and assured him that it was just a dream, a figment. He wanted to believe it, he really did, but somewhere deep in his heart, he had doubts.
“I’ll go get us some warm milk. Stay here for a moment, okay, Love?” You incited, but your lover remained firm with his grip, so, with no choice, you slowly dragged him with you to the kitchen. He littered feather kisses on your neck while his tail wrapped itself around your shin. It tickled you, causing bouts of chuckles to erupt from your lips. Tighnari smiled hearing your laughter. It was music to his ears.
After drinking the warm milk you prepared and eating a light breakfast, you two went out on patrol. There were a few rangers you had to send to the desert to help out with the Akademiya’s plan regarding the educational establishments to be placed in Aaru Village. They were there along with Kshahrewar graduates to help identify the best locations to build the school and library. After receiving the reports, you had to deliver them personally to Alhaitham (he was about to step down in two days, so everybody in position was doing the best they could to use his assistance).
The fennec fox felt conflicted. He remembered his dream again, but he could not let his irrationality get the best of him. The Acting Grand Sage was still his friend, and he knew that Alhaitham would never do such a thing. Reluctantly, he came along with you.
“I presume everything is going well in the desert? If that’s so, we should be able to start the construction soon. Have you and Tighnari contacted Kaveh about this?” The gray-head asked. You glanced back at Tighnari who seemed distracted.
“Tighnari? Is there something wrong?” You asked. As if pulled out of his stupor, the Forest Watcher stammered an answer and asked Alhaitham to repeat his question. Not minding, he asked if they contacted Kaveh to help with the construction.
“I sent him a mail two days ago. I’m still waiting for his response considering that he went to the desert a week before we could confirm the list of rangers we could dispatch to the desert. We’ll get back to you once we get his answer. Is there anything else we need to remember for this project?” He inquired. You watched the Forest Watcher’s behavior intently. He still seemed distracted and worried about something. It would not be good to have him like this, and if you were, to be honest, it felt like if you did not ask him what the problem was, he would drift away. Some place far from your grasp.
So, after your talk with Alhaitham, you pulled Tighnari back to Ghandarva Ville. And as if the gods were on your side, you spotted Collei and Amir not far from the hut. You asked them to take charge for a moment while you tended to your lover. They raised an eyebrow at your words, but you told them that the Forest Watcher had not been feeling well.
“Is Master all right, (Y/N)? He’s not… sick is he?” Collei asked. You smiled and patted her head.
“He’s not, but I think he’s mentally exhausted. I’ll leave the rest of the tasks to you two. If you need help, don’t hesitate to call me. I’ll go. You hear me?” They nodded. With a nod, you returned to Tighnari who was in a daze again.
“Let’s go inside, ‘Nari. I’ll prepare the incense to help out with your anxiety. If… If you’re all right with it, please tell me what is troubling you.” You urged.
You had the Forest Watcher sit down and talk to you about his problems. He was hesitant, saying that it was stupid and ridiculous, but you assured him that you would listen to his concern no matter what.
“It’s… really just a stupid nightmare. It’s not even worth mentioning.” He replied.
“Love, you would not feel this distracted if it was just that. Plus, you know that I’m your partner. I share whatever burdens you have.” You retorted, placing your right hand on his cheek. He unconsciously held it closer to him before finally elaborating on the content of dreams. A small smile erupted from your face, happy that he was willing to open up.
As you listened intently to his dream, you could see just how insecure and fearful it made him. The thought of you leaving him like that perturbed him. So as gently as possible, you placed a soft kiss on his lips, cheeks, and forehead before nudging your nose into his.
“Thank you for telling me your fears, ‘Nari. I really appreciate the trust you have given me. It must have been scary, but know this, Love. There’s no way I’ll ever leave you. You’re stuck with me for eternity. Not like I’ll let you leave. Tighnari, you have my heart and being. I am all yours, and there is nobody in this world I would love except you. After all, whose sass did I love to bits? Whose smart and beauty did I revere? Nothing but yours. These dreams of yours? They could go to hell for all I care. I love you, Tighnari. Don’t ever forget that.” You voiced, adoration decorating your face. Tighnari almost teared up at your words. He could not believe that you were truly his as he was yours. Your kindness and patience knew no bounds, and he was grateful for it.
“Thank you, Little Lotus, for loving me and staying with me. I could not ask for anyone better than you. I love you too.” He muttered, embracing your figure against him. You smiled and kissed his nose once again.
“Next time, don’t hide things like this from me, all right? I’ll worry.” He smiled and nodded. He forgot that communication was the key to a healthy relationship. You were a great listener and would never think of even the smallest fear he had as stupid. He was right to love you with all of his being.

Genshin theory time
OK hear me out. I’m posting a theory for the first time, and yet at the same time I want people to tell me I’m wrong about all of this. Concerns Irminsul, Dottore, Nahida and Wanderer.
SPOILERS!!! for something that was said in an interview with one of Genshin’s writers. If you don’t want to know, stop reading.
OK so. Apparently, Dottore burning Irminsul in the Lazzo trailer wasn’t just symbolic, but something that’s still going to happen in the future. First of all, this concerns me because Irminsul just being sick caused Eleazar and the Withering in Sumeru, and it’s also tied to Nahida – what will it do to her??
But then, always having Wanderer on the brain as I do, my thoughts wandered further, aided by this twitter post. If he’s really carved from a white tree, and he’s still self-sacrificing and trying to be ‘of use’, would he not try to replace Irminsul somehow if Dottore burns it down?
Killing Irminsul might remove all the ‘lies’ from Teyvat, unveiling history as it truly was. And having Wanderer and all his honesty as the new tree, he’d keep and preserve those truths. It’d be a way to stop and perhaps harm or kill Dottore, and ‘tell’ everyone everything about his true past in one fell swoop.
“There’s no such thing as pure freedom in this world. Even the wind cannot blow on forever.”
He’d be like an Aranara, sacrificing himself to become a protective, preserving tree. He’d perhaps still be able to project himself into dreams, connecting to Nahida and perhaps others he cares about, maybe create manifestations the way he did in Pardis Dhyai.
'Perhaps a day will come when this body's adventures, its experiences, Will become tales to be passed along by mortals, distant memories that flow through the ley lines. But for now, his third act is still ongoing.'
(Calabash of Awakening description.)
He’d also be connected to Teyvat’s memories, and in a way, be with everyone he’s lost as well...
This could also tie into him being a Vahumana scholar now, studying history and the humanities, perhaps priming himself to become the ultimate record-keeper and caretaker the same way Neuvillette primed himself to become Fontaine’s ruler.
I don’t know if this theory makes me really sad or strangely fulfilled. It makes narrative sense to me, and yet I don’t want it to happen. I want him to have a life, not continue his transactional thinking to the extreme, and yet, and yet...
...Also, the whole thing with Raidens planting important mystical trees.
Please tell me what you think :P

𝓡𝓮𝓵𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓸𝓷𝓼𝓱𝓲𝓹 𝓗𝓮𝓪𝓭𝓬𝓪𝓷𝓷𝓸𝓷𝓼 - 𝓦𝓪𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓻𝓮𝓻
A/N: HDBHEIBFROIEBKMDF LOOK AT HIM LOOK AT MY BABYGIRL OH MY Warning(s): Mentions of violence(obviously), cursing ——————•°•✿•°•——————••——————•°•✿•°•——————
❀- Redemption arc my ass ❀- Ya'll see that shit eating grin? he'd spit in your face and call you a slur ❀- Anyway ❀- The relationship started out.. rocky to say the least. You two didnt necessarily hate each other anymore but there was still tension
❀- I mean you did beat his life long goal out of him... so yk ❀- When he first realized his feelings he immediately went to Nahida. Confused and slightly disgusted at his feelings he explained them to her ❀- She'd laugh as he asked her how to get rid of them ❀- "Quit laughing this is serious!" Embarrassment written across his features ❀- Nahida didn't have much experience in this field so she'd give him what little information she could. Small things like basic relationship advice ❀- You had loved him far before he realized he loved you though ❀- Of course you were a bit ashamed to admit you had a crush on the harbinger and Paimon absolutely ragged on you for it ❀- And really you thought you had gotten over it but the moment you saw him at Pardis Dhyai those feelings came rushing back again. ❀- Even after the fight you'd pace in your room as you contemplated his well being. When you expressed your worries to the god of wisdom she'd give a knowing smile as she assured you of his safety ❀- And once the irminsul incident was settled and he was now 'Wanderer' you'd tell him of your feelings and reluctantly he'd confess his own ❀- You loved him, and would often express it. Small kisses to the cheek or asking if you could hold his hand or hug him ❀- You always asked, it had been centuries since Wanderer allowed anyone to touch him so you made sure to be careful ❀- Though he'd never express it outwardly he loved you to and deeply appreciated how gentle you were with him in the beginning. he had no clue how romantic relationships worked ❀- As time went on he felt more comfortable with telling you that you didnt have to ask to touch him anymore
❀- Obviously this made you unexplainably happy ❀- And he became more comfortable with expressing affection towards you ❀- He would be less mean at times, as his way of telling you he loves you ❀- hes a very gentle lover when he needs or wants to be ❀- He can be a bit insensitive at times, old habits die hard. To be honest you just need to tell him that hes being a dick and upsetting you and he'll probably apologize ❀- probably
❀- He'll say some mean shit not because he means it but because he just doesnt know how to not do so ❀- He'll call you names like stupid, or rat, or weak. Most of the time its a joke and you know that but there are times when you just cant handle his bullying ❀- Of course he'll stop if you really want him to, he loves you its just he doesnt always know how to express it ❀- Hes like a little boy, bullying you because he likes you ❀- But again, his childishness is made up for in his soft intimate moments.
❀- "Look im sorry okay? just come here, damn." He'll say, arms wide open as he invites you into his warmth.

Offense Powers Cal On Opening Day
Defending Champs Start 2-For-2
SAN DIEGO – The No. 2 California men's water polo team put on an offensive clinic on the first day of the 2024 season, claiming a pair of wins over No. 6 UC Irvine, 20-14 and Claremont, 19-8 at the Triton Invitational.
With the departures of nine seniors from last year – including Paris Olympians Nikolaos Papanikolaou and Adrian Weinberg – the three-time defending NCAA champion Golden Bears headed into the year knowing there would be new opportunities on both sides of the ball, and that was reflected in the opening-day box scores.
Seniors Roberto Valera and Max Casabella picked up right where they left off in 2023, leading the way with seven and five goals on the day, respectively. Against the Anteaters, fellow ACWPC All-American Albert Ponferrada had a huge game with three goals and six assists, while George Avakian dominated in center with three goals and seven earned exclusions.
In the Bears' first game of the day, they cruised to a double-digit victory over CMS behind four goals from Valera and three by Casabella. Cal took a 5-1 first-quarter lead and outscored CMS 10-3 in the second half. Maddox Arlett, Patrik Kolak, Alex Oprea and Bende Pardi all secured braces in their Cal debuts.
Taking on its first ranked opponent of the year in the evening, Cal found itself trailing 10-8 at the half. The Bears turned things on right out of the break, as Ponferrada converted a power play and then found Avakian for an equalizer less than two minutes into the third. Ponferrada added two more assists before the quarter's end and Casabella scored twice to put the Bears up 13-12 heading into the fourth.
It was all Cal from there. The Bears started the final frame with an onslaught, getting a pair of quick goals from Valera and another two from Pardi and Arlett to go up 17-12 with 5:04 to go. Cal ended up outsourcing UCI 7-2 in the quarter after two late goals from senior Jake Howerton put the game to bed. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Riley Clansen – who played every minute in goal on Saturday – finished the game with seven saves.

scars and soulmates
Tighnari was covered in stars.
This wasn’t so much a choice – more so that they were thrust onto him, or into his very skin.
When Tighnari was young, he had to wonder why his soulmate hurt himself so. What kind of person they were - clumsy or violent? Were they hurting voluntarily or against their own will? In this world, where Celestia above chose who would end up together, in some crazy game of matchmaking, soulmates could feel each other’s physical pain and would have stars appear on their body in place of permanent scars and wounds.
The first time Tighnari got a star, it felt like it was being burned into his arm.
He screamed all night, crying as his parents comforted him.
The next morning, a merry ring of translucent stars shimmered around the width of his left arm.
It would be the first of many.
Over the years, he grew used to it. Tighnari learned to live with the pain. Of course, he was certainly curious, but he never went out of his way to seek out this so-called fated pair. If anything, the fox found a sense of frustration building in him. Amongst his class, he was the only one littered in tiny, iridescent clusters.
When Tighnari met Cyno, however, all that anger dissipated.
It clicked then, just what all of this meant.
Everyone knew the General Mahamatra – his name was a staple in the Akademiya. He sought only justice and knew nothing of mercy once you had committed a single wrong, no matter how small.
Not many people were closely acquainted with him; he was elusive and lonesome.
Tighnari wouldn’t call them friends quite yet, considering how the other had chased him down from one end of Sumeru to the other, waiting for him to make a mistake. To slip up and admit his grand, evil scheme. Not that he had one.
Then, when the chase was over, Tighnari instead got acquainted with Cyno. Cyno wore all his scars for the world to see, unashamed of all the sacrifices he’s made and all the constellations he had forced onto his soulmate.
Perhaps, it was silly, or that Tighnari just wasn’t looking hard enough, but he never noticed that Cyno’s tattoo bore the same placement as the galaxy he wore around his bicep.
What really gave it away was one day at Pardis Dhyai.
It was especially hot and humid, and Tighnari had just finished a lecture to some of his junior students about faunal conservation in the forest. Cyno had arrived as agreed, hair tied up in a look that was uncommon for the Matra.
It caught his eye then, a cluster of stars on the back of Cyno’s neck - it was the same as the scar he had from falling off a tree, the branches scraping through skin and ripping out a portion of his hair. He needed stitches and had his neck bandaged for weeks to come.
Without thinking too much, Tighnari reached out, tracing the stars along Cyno’s skin and feeling them shift and glitter under his own fingertips, as if the stars themselves were responding to Tighnari’s call.
The rest felt more of a blur. Tighnari still remembered the nights that came after, comparing each scar to a cluster of stars – repeating history to each other and having their stories line up.
Even before then, Tighnari had known that he had loved Cyno like no other. To have it all click into place so perfectly, Tighnari knew better than to doubt Celestia’s plans just yet.
Nowadays, Cyno liked to joke that Tighnari was the night sky. Though, on some nights, when Cyno’s lips cast its worship against every twinkling freckle on Tighnari’s skin, the Forest Watcher could believe it. When their fingers traced along each other’s skin, and each star would shine just a little brighter - it felt like the universe had found its place within their skin, an endless canvas for thousands of solar systems to live in.
Cyno’s lips ghost along Tighnari’s skin, tracing the constellations of their history.
Tighnari’s hand raising upwards to bury themselves into Cyno’s hair, breathing a whisper of his name, something so fond and adoring that he swears for a moment that he knows no other words outside of his lover’s name.
Tighnari was covered in stars, but Cyno wore all of Tighnari’s world on his skin.

burnt out - tighnari
Pairing: Boyfriend!Tighnari x Student!Reader
Genre: Angst, I guess? Comfort later, though. Female reader.
Word Count: 2.5k
Notes: You’ve been working toward your degree at the Academiya for four years now, and as the days go on, Tighnari starts to notice that your diligence to your studies has gone by the wayside. Just when he thinks he has to have a talk with you, it’s brought to his attention that you aren’t just slacking off, but that there’s a bigger problem at hand. (Very self-indulgent lmao.)
Warnings: mentions of burnout and all the things that come of it! Tighnari is unaware of the situation so he’s a bit brash at first. (He also might be a little OOC im so sorry.) Vomiting is also mentioned – not graphically, just mentioned a few times. Also not entirely for sure how the Academiya runs in genshin but I structured it kind of like college to make it easier for me :)
“So, I got the exam, right? And I looked at the first page and was like, ‘Whoa, I know this stuff!’ And I just went through the whole test like that, so I think I did well! There were a couple I was confused about, but I think I got them, so I’m not too worried.” You stood from the crouched position you had been in and sighed, wiping the sweat from off your brow as you waited for an approving response from your boyfriend.
“You always study hard, so I would expect nothing less from you,” was the response Tighnari gave and oh, how damaging to you would it soon turn out to be.
It was a slow process, of course. It wasn’t like you just woke up one day and decided that you had no urge to even step foot on the premise of the Academiya, let alone even gaze in its direction. It was a gradual feeling that started to bubble within after four years of diligent studying and research to graduate and obtain a much sought-after degree in biology. This was a goal you had always been passionate about. Ever since you were young, you always wanted to learn more about the world around you, specifically nature’s role in it. You were still in the process of trying to write your thesis, with the help of your just as diligent boyfriend, Tighnari. Of course, the thesis work was all you – he was just there for support and to help out when needed. A lot of your time together was spent outside in the rainforest, collecting data and observing nature do it’s thing.
You spend a lot of time at Pardis Dhyai, since a lot of your research revolves around botany, but you also travel to Gandharva Ville not only to see your lover but also for research purposes. Your time spent in the rainforest with the forest watchers was always brief and you’d return back to Pardis Dhyai almost as soon as you left, but your stays have gotten longer. At first, you said it was because your work that needed to be done back at “home base” as you referred to it as didn’t have to start as soon as you woke up in the morning but then you changed your story to “Gandharva ville has more materials I need for my research.” Either one was acceptable; after all, students do tend to travel all over the place to gather material and data for their research topics. It wasn’t uncommon for you to even go someplace else in Sumeru for a couple days. The only problem with your second excuse was that you spent more time in Tighnari’s abode rather than outside inspecting plants and their habitats.
“You’re still here? I thought you said you were going to go out in the field today,” Tighnari said, seeing that you sitting at his desk, a notebook opened in front of you. The pages were blank except for a few scribbles and doodles. When he had left earlier, you had told him you needed to go into the field and see how the plants you were observing were doing since you hadn’t since last week. But it appeared that you hadn’t even attempted to leave.
“Oh, yeah, I had a lot to do this week so I thought I’d take it easy today, actually,” you answered.
“Understandable,” was all he replied with, a feeling of doubt surfacing that was quickly shaken away.
This theme of your “I need to blah blah blah” statements and then never actually doing what “needed” to be done became a very frequent occurrence. “Didn’t you say the test this week was super hard? I haven’t seen you touch your notes once in the past two days,” Tighnari noted as you ate lunch one day by a stream.
“It’s not until later in the week so I have time,” you said, shrugging. He decided not to press the issue further, putting his trust in the fact that you’d most likely just study when it came closer to time. Though, he’d really suggest starting now, but oh well.
And it continued like this, but you’d come back and explain that you didn’t do as well on that test as you thought you would followed by, “I should’ve studied more, but I just felt like I couldn’t.” Tighnari asked why you would return so late to Pardis Dhyai when you had work to do there, but you’d just brush it off and say that you could take care of it, you just might have to work longer one day. He’d stand at the entrance of your little “home base” and wave at you, telling you to have a nice rest of the week with a voice in his head saying that something was up with you but he just couldn’t put his finger on it.
You were always so diligent with your schoolwork. So focused and never missing a due date. You were always in the field, ready to learn and make observations. You’d go through notebook after notebook, filling the pages with endless pieces of knowledge and experiences you had come across, completely immersing yourself in your work and loving every minute of it. But now, you were different. Things had changed over these past four years. You weren’t as eager to go out in the field with him and when you were, the enjoyment didn’t last long and you’d get restless and distracted from the tasks at hand. Your stays at his place consisted of basically just you sleeping over until you stated you were ready for him to walk you back to Pardis Dhyai. You didn’t have your nose in books or notes anymore or ask him to quiz you for your next test. It was almost as if you weren’t even a student anymore. Were you just… becoming lazy? Surely not, as that was so unlike you. Perhaps… you had grown to dislike your degree choice, or realized that you just didn’t like it as much as you thought.
Tighnari decided he needed to address this concern of his to you and figure out what was going on. Maybe you just needed a little push to get going again! If that was the case, he was always there to encourage you. Hopefully you hadn’t forgotten all the times he’s helped you with your research, because if you were stuck and didn’t know how to continue with it, he’d totally help you out just as he had before.
When Tighnari entered Gandharva Ville, he was approached by Collei before he could reach his home. “Master Tighnari!” the young girl greeted. “I was waiting for you to return. I was wanting to ask you if there’s anything I could do to help (Y/N)? I didn’t know she was sick and I feel bad for not keeping her company while you were gone.”
“Sick?” Tighnari echoed. “I didn’t know she was sick, either.” His brows furrowed and gazed off into the distance, looking at his home and wondering what he had missed while he was out.
“Oh?” Collei bit at the inside of her cheek as she followed the male’s gaze. “I figured (Y/N) hadn’t ate yet, so I made her a couple pita pockets so she could take a break from her studies. When I walked in, though, she was sitting on the ground with her head in her hands. She said she had just thrown up.”
A lot of thoughts were running through the forest ranger’s mind. At first, he had wanted to retort and say that you probably weren’t studying earlier, but rather drawing meaningless doodles in the pages of your notebook that should have your work written on them instead. But you had thrown up? Tighnari didn’t even waste another second, but instead headed straight to his home.
Upon entering, you were seated on the bed, braiding a series of small flowers together into bracelets, something you’d always do when you were little and out playing in the forest with your friends. You had made several of these for Tighnari in the past, all of which were dried and turning to dust somewhere in a vase in his house. You looked up before going back to your braiding. “I know, I know. I’m not studying. You don’t have to say anything this time,” you said softly, a bit of strain in your voice.
Ouch. “That’s not-“ he sighed, “Collei said you were sick?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah. I just threw up a little. My throat still hurts a bit, but I’m fine,” you responded, a bit of what he assumed was embarrassment written on your face.
Your boyfriend observed the space around you. A half-eaten pita pocket lay on a plate, discarded on his desk, cold and stale. Next to it, your books were open and your notebook was out and he was surprised to see that you had actually been studying. “Why did you throw up? Had you eaten something previously that upset you?”
“No,” you replied. “I hadn’t eaten anything all day until Collei made lunch. I had been doing work all morning since you left.” As Tighnari observed you, he made note of the redness of your eyes. He remembered when he left this morning on his forest ranger duties, giving a hasty kiss on your cheek before he departed, hoping not to wake you up since you were still asleep. That was another thing – you’ve spent a lot of your time taking naps or just laying in bed until it was time to eat, but sometimes, you’d even skip that. More pieces started to fit together in his mind.
Before he could hit you with another round of questions to try to deduce why you had gotten sick earlier, you said something that tied it all together for him.
“I was just doing some of my work and I got overwhelmed. Before I knew it, I felt the need to vomit and thankfully-”
The rest of your statement about how you got out and away from Tighnari’s things just before you vomited didn’t matter because it suddenly made sense now. He just… he just didn’t know how to tell you because it was obvious you weren’t aware of the situation.
“I’m glad you’re feeling better,” he said, coming to sit next to you on the bed. He picked up one of the carefully made bracelets and ran his hand through it before taking it off and laying it back down. The silence was unbearable to him. “About what you said earlier, though, I’m sorry for always getting onto you for not studying. It’s really none of my business. I just know how much you want this degree and I don’t want to see you give up on it.” Maybe he could ease you into this conversation to make things easier.
You exhaled a tired sigh. “It’s okay. I know I should study more. I just… don’t always feel like it and when I do go to study, like today, I just get so… sick. I threw up last week, too, in Pardis Dhyai. I don’t know what’s going on, to be honest.”
“Do you think that maybe you’re just burnt out?”
Your eyes widened a bit, and you peered up at him as he looked at you, his eyes full of concern and worry. You quickly looked away, your fingers fumbling with the flower bracelet in your hand. “No. How could I be burnt out when I love what I do?”
“I understand thinking that, but (Y/N), it’s more common than you’d think.” He shifted his position to be a bit closer and he gently grabbed one your hands to still your fidgeting. “You’ve worked so hard for so long, it’s normal for this to happen.”
“Yeah, but I always take breaks,” you retorted. “I shouldn’t be burnt out already. Not like this.”
His thumb rubbed gentle, loving circles into the back of your palm. “Even before you joined the Academiya, you were working on what your thesis would be and what research you would do. You’ve put in so much time for so long.” He paused, watching a tear drop from the corner of your eye. “You haven’t mentioned your thesis in a while, either.”
“They keep getting rejected,” you hiccupped, pulling your hand away from his. You turned away, feeling a sense of shame because of the position you were in. You pulled your knees up to your chest and let out a shaky breath, feeling the sick, overwhelmed feeling from earlier settle into your stomach again. “I keep trying to come up with something new and interesting, but it’s never enough. I want to keep trying because I love this – I love the research, the new things I discover, the people and places. But ever since my third thesis was rejected, I just felt… I just felt sick every time I think of doing field work.”
Tighnari didn’t know how best to comfort you in this situation. If it was him, he would just want to be left alone to regain his composure, but he knew you didn’t function like that. He moved his position to sit beside you once again and he placed an arm around your waist to pull you toward him. “It’s not uncommon to get your thesis rejected, y/n, so don’t let that discourage you-”
“But it keeps happening,” you cried, your tears dropping onto his clothes. “I don’t feel like this dream of mine is even meant for me anymore. Maybe I’m not cut out-”
“Hey, hey,” Tighnari interrupted you, his voice firm. “Don’t even begin to think like that, because it’s not true. Some of the smartest people out there have gotten multiple theses rejected. That doesn’t mean they weren’t capable of achieving what they wanted. It just means it took a little extra time. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But there is something wrong with you discrediting yourself and your abilities, because you are more than capable of reaching your goals and everyone around you can see that.”
“I’m just worried that if I don’t achieve this, I’ll let you and everyone else down,” you murmured.
“You could never let me down,” he said, sincerity clear in his words. Your lips quivered and you felt more tears surface as you turned to hug your boyfriend. Those were some of the exact words you needed to hear at the moment, and you would most likely need to him say them again at a later time, but right now was all you needed to feel a spot of hope begin to grow inside you. Once he was sure your cries had calmed down enough for you to listen to him again, Tighnari planted a kiss on the top of your head before he pulled back to give you another on your nose. “And you know I’m always here to help you, no matter what it is. I’m rooting for you, Collei is rooting for you, and I’m sure the other forest watchers are, too. We all know that you’re capable of accomplishing this, now you just have to believe in yourself.”

Tales: When a Photographer marries a Gaia Part 1
The date was 6-1-2013 a surprisingly great time for today's event, the wedding of Agent Iris Thompson, currently 30, and Doctor Meri Clef, currently 32. Nobody expected this despite their love being so obvious, but these two women were finally ready to spend the rest of their immortal lives together. Having deep connections like this was rare within the Foundation, especially since the O5 Council was strongly against it. They were especially against this wedding, but the Ethics Committee was able to shut them up. Of course, once the wedding was over all agents, MTF units, doctors, researchers, and other Foundation staff would have to get back to work right away. But no one was focusing on that right now, instead they were focused on the wedding of the century.
After lots of debate between the two they both decided to be wearing wedding dresses. Dr. Wells was surprisingly ok with it and even agreed to be the one to marry them off. Iris wanted Dr. Wicked to do it, but he refused almost immediately, even when she jokingly begged him to reconsider. She mainly just asked because she heard about how angry he was about marrying Agent Pardy with Dr. Pardy and wanted to annoy him even further. Iris chucked as she remembered how angry Dr. Wicked looked when she asked him to marry them off.
"Hey! Hold still!" Agent Wells giggled as she was preparing Iris dress, making sure to make it fit well but not be too tight.
"Sorry I was just remembering something funny. But also, I'm just so happy... Say what was your wedding like?"
"Nuh-uh, its bad luck to talk about someone else's wedding at your own."
"What? That's not a thing!"
"Ha! Yeah, your right, it was... scary... I mean I don't regret it; I do love him even today but... at the time it was a big decision, so I just wasn't sure if I had the strength for it. But I eventually found it and walked down that carpet and that's when I saw him staring at me with that charming smile of his. That's when I knew that all the fear I had before was so silly and would never again stop me from following my heart." Agent Wells then realized that she was slacking off on fixing Iris's dress. She then looked up to see Iris looking down at her with sparkling eyes, she was clearly touched by Agent Wells story.
"Hey! I'm not the girl your supposed to be admiring today remember?!"
"Ha?! As if! I just think your story was so sweet... But seriously thank you, I really needed to hear that, and yeah, I think I feel the same. I am a little scared but frankly I don't think I'll ever regret today." Suddenly Doctor Pardy and Agent Strutemyer entered the room as well.
"Ok I got the bridal bouquet!"
"And I have your veil right... here... wow, you look amazing." Iris looked at them both with a smile. She was wearing an ivory dress with the bust and waist outlined with golden fabric. The sleeves were sea through and detailed with light blue butterflies that were outlined with ivory silk.
"Thank you, girls. especially you kylie but I don't really need a veil." Agent Strutemyer sighed but she nodded in understanding and put the veil away.
"Say did any of you happen to see the dress that belongs to the love of my life?"
"Nu-uh Iris, it's bad luck to see your significant other before the ceremony."
"Oh, come on! I'm just asking for some minor details!" Agent Wells then grab a hair pin from the table and used it to tie up Agent Thompson's hair.
"All you need to focus on is how you look now, so you'll both look perfect." Iris sighed and looked back to the mirror as Agent Strutemyer fit the veil on her head and Doctor Pardy gave her the flowers.
"I do still find it strange two girls marrying like this." Iris and Agent Strutemyer looked at Doctor Pardy, Iris in confusion and Agent Strutemyer in anger as if she was trying to silently tell her to shut up.
"... BUT, I'll get over it. Besides today isn't about me, it's about you!" Doctor Pardy and Agent Strutemyer both hugged Iris. She then hugged them both back, she hadn't known either of them for very long, but she was grateful for how supportive they were. Only a small portion of the entire Foundation was supportive of this wedding, so it was honestly a blessing.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! Don't ruin her dress! You're going to get it all wrinkled." Doctor Pardy and Agent Strutemyer both smiled playfully as they quickly let go of Iris. Agent Wells growled in anger and started waving your hands over Iris's dress.
"Argh! Hey that's hot!"
"Don't be such a baby, it's just to get rid of the wrinkles. I'll be done in a second." Iris just grunted in disappointment as she tried to stay still and ignore the fact that Agent Wells was practically burning her.
***
Meanwhile in the other room Dr. Clef was in her wedding dress with Dr. Corvio being the one who was getting her dress ready. Meanwhile Dr. Stella and Agent Victoria were watching in anticipation.
"Alright! Done! What do you girls think!" Dr. Corvio stepped out of the way and to allow Agent Victoria to see, her eyes sparkled in excitement. However, Agent Victoria remembered that Dr. Stella couldn't see and quickly went over to her ear and described everything. Meri's dress was a Champagne style dress that was decorated with flowers all over the Sleeves and Silhouette of the dress. Some of which stood out specifically because they were outlined with golden fabric. After Agent Victoria was done describing the dress, Dr. Stella blushed and smiled out of overwhelming joy. She then said in sign language "It couldn't have turned out better, you look beautiful!"
"Thank you!" Meri then twirled around to further show off the dress. Agent Victoria started clapping and Dr. Stella started doing the sign language clap as she could tell what Meri was doing. However, the moment was ruined when an MTF trooper entered the room, which concerned Meri, Dr. Corvio, and Agent Victoria.
"What's wrong?"
"Wha? Oh! Sorry!" The MTF trooper then realized that he didn't have the flower on his vest to show that he was part of the security for the wedding. All three of them groaned in annoyance as they thought he was from outside of the room where the wedding was being held and therefore was going to tell them about an emergency. Dr. Stella was left confused as to why they were so scared one second and angry the next.
"Ahem! Sorry to interrupt but it's almost time to begin."
"Ah! Oh my gosh I'm so sorry I waisted too much time! Come along dear let's get you ready now."
"We'll see you out there!" Dr. Stella then signed, "Don't worry, we're all here for you!" the two of them then hurried out and got to the ceremony. Dr. Corvio was about to escort Meri out, but she then noticed how she was looking at the mirror while smiling. However what Dr. Corvio truly noticed was the Meri's eyes were filled with sadness and longing.
"Meri? Are you ok?"
"... I just wish my dad was here." Dr. Corvio didn't know what to say, so she quickly walked over to Meri and hugged her tightly. Meri grabbed Dr. Corvio's arms and smiled, appreciating Corvio's attempt to make her feel better.
"You existed before The Reset, do you know what my dad was like?"
"Oh uh... well he was... Wild..."
"What?"
"Uh, but! Ahem, if there was one thing to admire it's that, from what I can remember before The Reset, the one thing that was most important to him... was you. He never stopped trying to get back to you." Meri stared at Dr. Corvio with her dice head, Dr. Corvio's head would normally shift to the one-side of the die when she was telling the truth and to the six-side of the die when she was lying. Dr. Clef was able to smile when she saw Dr. Corvio's head shifting to the one-side of the die.
"Thank you, Melissa."
"Anytime my dear, now come on! You can't keep everyone waiting."
***
Iris exited her room and outside there was Dr. Wicked who was looking bored and that he really didn't want to be here. He was actually wearing a tux which was weird for him since he normally only wore plain clothes with his signature lab coat. Iris smiled as she loved annoying Dr. Wicked, like Agent Victoria she liked to think of him as her older brother. Agent Thompson quickly ran to him and hugged his arm while giggling joyfully to both annoy him and show how happy she truly was. Dr. Wicked groaned thought Iris couldn't see him frowning as he was still wearing his signature medical mask.
"... you ready kid?"
"I think it's a little inappropriate to call me a kid, especially today."
"Whatever. But seriously thought, you ready?"
"Not at all... Let's do it." Iris smiled and linked arms with Dr. Wicked, he grunted again while she giggled. The two of them started walking down the carpet and the two MTF troopers in front of them quickly opened the door. A blinding light showered over them thankfully their eyes quickly adjusted to see everyone there in a wide-open field with cherry blossom trees everywhere. There were long rows of seats on both sides each having a person sitting there, all of which quickly rose up to look at Iris as she was escorted by Dr. Wicked. Some were Foundation staff that have become friends with Iris and Meri. Then there were the fellow anomalies, Childhood friends like Agent Victoria, Dr. Stella, Dr. Stefansdottir, Emily Evolution, and Agent Wells. Then others who were just good friends like Dr. Haselhurst who was holding Abby Johnson, Cain, Agent Belitrov, and Agent Miller. Finally there was The Specter who was currently playing the piano. But of course, the cherry for Iris was to see her future wife right there at the wedding arbour. She smiled at her and couldn't help but sigh in longing as thought about how beautiful Meri looked, which she felt she should have expected since in her eyes Meri is always beautiful.
Agent Victoria was actually standing behind Meri as she was the maid of honor and there was Dr. Stella behind her who was the one holding the rings. Then there was Elrin who was the flower girl; as such, she used her anomalous abilities to throw flowers in the air. Agent Thompson wore a broken smile as did everyone else since she was throwing the flowers too high in the air, but she was so happy, so no one had the heart to stop her. Thought there were those that were too scared to since her sister Kasta was there. She was sitting on one of the chairs with her arms crossed looking just as annoyed as Dr. Wicked was. She naturally loved destruction and chaos, so this wedding was unbearable to her, the only reason she came was because her sister was here.
The flowers started flying in the air and landing in random places, it was to the point that it was starting to get annoying. Ironic given the anomalous properties of the pollen within the flowers was supposed to make people happy. To lift the mood again, Dr. Stefansdottir quickly used her anomalous abilities to turn the flowers into butterflies that resembled flowers. Emily was delighted by the sight of this and decided to play along, every flower she managed to touch she transformed into butterflies with wings that shimmered like crystals. Everyone was amazed by the sight of the butterflies and so was Elrin, however she quickly noticed she reached the end of the rug and quickly got out of the way and sat with her sister.
Meanwhile Dr. Wicked still looked annoyed, wanting his part to be over as soon as possible. He then saw Agent Victoria looking at him, she was pointing at her face and smiling, trying to silently tell him to smile. He just grunted in annoyance and pretended to ignore her. However, he then noticed that Agent Pardy was looking at him and covering his mouth and laughing. Dr. Wicked growled in anger and was about to yell at him but Iris quickly slapped him on the back of the head. Dr. Wicked looked back at her but she was still smiling at Dr. Clef, though he knew that she knew he was staring at her. None-the-less he also knows it was stupid to keep being angry, so he let it go after sighing in annoyance.
However, everyone stopped when the music suddenly stopped out of nowhere. Everyone then looked to the piano to see The Specter crying. He was seemingly weeping out of overwhelming joy so he couldn't even focus on playing the piano. However, after crying for a short while he did notice that everyone was staring at him, some in confusion and others in anger.
"Wha- what?! Even justice cries sometimes! I can’t help it because this is such a beautiful and lovely moment! Love is the ally of justice you know! I'm just overwhelmed at how beautiful it is!"
"Just keep playing the piano you idiot!" Iris elbowed Dr. Wicked as she though he was being too harsh, he just glared at her for a second before the two of them started walking again. Not long after The Specter stopped crying and started playing the piano again and continued the wedding theme.
"Ugh, I hate that guy."
"You know he embodies justice, right?"
"Oh really? I hate him more now." Iris then sighed and rolled her eyes, she really wished that Dr. Wicked would loosen up more often. Thought they finally made it to the wedding arbour, where Dr. Wicked let Iris go and she quickly held hands with Meri. Iris was about to thank Dr. Wicked, but he quickly turned away and went to sit in one of the chairs. Iris sighed in disappointment but still managed to smile as she faced Meri who smiled back and shrugged.
"Heh, nice work Doc." Dr. Wicked then punched Agent Pardy in the stomach.
"Shut up Bill." Agent Pardy grunted in pain as he looked at Dr. Wicked in annoyance, he then looked to Starla, gently grabbed her hand and kissed it as the two of them smiled and turned to watch Iris and Meri. Iris and Meri them turned to see Dr. Wells standing there with his wings spreading out and smiling at him both while holding his bible.
Thought Dr. Wells was wearing a pastor outfit, he wasn't a real pastor at all, though technically this wasn't a real wedding so frankly nothing was off the table. None-the-less, Iris and Meri appreciated him doing this for them. Iris still found it weird that they were all such good friends with him despite him being a Christan, Meri being a Catholic, and her being an Atheist. He then opened his bible and started the wedding script.
"Ahem! Friends, Allies, Family, and Loved ones. We are gathered here today in the good graces of God to witness the divine and loving union between these two beautiful souls. Them being the wonderful Meri and the brave Iris." The speech continued and every so often Dr. Wells included heavier Christian wording which deeply bothered Iris. Meri didn't seem to be bothered but Iris knew that Meri was actually really good at pretending to calm when something was bothering her. Though thankfully it didn't last long and finally Dr. wells reached the final part.
"And now Meri and Iris, are you ready to proclaim your everlasting love for one another to each other. With everyone here and god himself as your witness." But of them looked at him and smiled as they both said "yes" at the same time.
"Very well then, Meri do you take Iris to be your lawfully wedded partner? Will you honor and cherish her; love, trust, and commit to her, through joy and pain, sickness and health, and whatever life may throw at you both, until death do you part?"
"I do."
"And do you Iris vow to do the same for Meri? Will you honor and cherish her; love, trust, and commit to her, through joy and pain, sickness and health, and whatever life may throw at you both, until death do you part?"
"... Hell yeah!" Iris was expecting everyone to gasp but instead they all either snorted or coughed out of shock and how funny they all thought it was. Even Meri and Dr. Wells had to cover their mouths by how shocked they were though even they thought it was a little funny.
"*snorts* Ah! Ahem, well then! May I please see the rings?" Dr. Stella was actually still trying to collect herself since she still thought it was funny. Thankfully she was able to walk up to them, albeit unsteadily, and gave the rings to Meri and Iris. The two of them took a single one from the pillow and she then quickly went back to where she was standing.
"Now then please hold the rings high in front of your partner." Iris and Meri did exactly as Dr. Wells instructed.
"Now first Iris, please recite the vows."
"Meri, I promise to love you and commit to you my whole life. I promise to be there for you when you need me, to be honest with you, to be faithful to you, and to walk through the journey of life together. May there be nothing that comes between us, and should we ever find troubles, may we face them together." Meri blushed with her eyes sparkling in delight and love, she then held out her hand and Iris put the ring on her finger.
"Now Meri, your vows."
"Iris, I promise to love you and commit to you my whole life. I promise to be there for you when you need me, to be honest with you, to be faithful to you, and to walk through the journey of life together... no matter what happens, no matter what comes our way, no matter who or what tries to get in-between us. I'll be there for you and if I'm not there, then please know that I won't ever stop searching until I find you." Iris was speechless as a single tear left her eye, her heart was beating so fast by how beautiful and touching that final part of the vow was. However, the both of them then noticed that Dr. Wells had a tear falling form his eye as well. He quickly noticed them staring at him, so he wiped it away, the two of them giggled in response and most of the guests in the chairs started chuckling as well. Iris quickly cleared her throat and raised her hand; Meri then placed the ring on her finger.
"Ahem! Then by the powers vested to me, by your love, by god, and by the Foundation, I now pronounce you both lawfully wedded! You may kiss!" Iris and Meri did so and kissed, to which everyone sitting stood up and started clapping and cheering. Dr. Wells was smiling proudly at the sight of his two friends being lovingly married. However, while he was still smiling, he started snapping his fingers at The Specter, since he wasn't playing the piano.
"Oh! Right, sorry!" The Specter started playing the piano again while everyone continued clapping and cheering. Meri and Iris then stopped kissing and waved at everyone, thanking them all for being here. The two then walked down the carpet slowly while continuing to thank and wave at everyone. While everyone was focused on Meri and Iris, Dr. Wicked walked away, seemingly walking into the open field they were in. However, he stopped randomly in the middle of the field, reached out, and touched a computer panel.
As Dr. Wicked, started pressing buttons and adjusting the program the world around everyone started glitching. Some people were confused but others started groaning in disappointment. Agent Bill Pardy in particular was annoyed with Dr. Wicked.
"Come on Doc! What's the rush?" Dr. Wicked just glared back at him and continued to reprogram the holographic projection room they were in.
"Alright, you impatient bastard. Sorry! Everyone, guess we're moving on to the afterparty!" Everyone then got out of the chairs and started going to the door of the room while the infrastructure of the room changed. The chairs, the wedding arbour, the piano, and all the other decorations started fading away. Instead, a dance floor was created with a stage in front of it, with a DJ station and lots of other instruments. Then there was a table where food normally was, but it was completely baren. Instead, several AFA-1's dressed in butlers suits walked into the room all of which were holding different plates and bowls of food. Then there were four of them that walked in while carefully holding the wedding cake.
Everyone clapped when they saw the cake, it was a pure white cake with miniature figures of Iris and Meri on the top. The side of the cake where Iris was decorated with edible blue photos, on the Meri's side of the cake was beautifully decorated with leaves, branches, and edible wildflowers.
"Hahaha! Wow!"
"It's amazing!"
"My compliments to the chef!" SCP-5031 then showed up, following the AFA-1 units holding the cake and as soon as he was visible, he bowed to everyone while they were parsing the cake. He was wearing a collar that allowed him to be visible to them all. Iris and Meri realized that this was a good time and quickly walked away from the crowed, Iris then raised her bridal bouquet. Everyone knew what this meant and formed a crowd on the dance floor, Iris then turned around, and threw her bouquet in the air. Everyone joyfully raised their arms to reach for it, but while in the air it was shot with red lighting and quickly fell to the ground in embers. Everyone stood there shocked then some looked to Kasta who was just standing there still looking annoyed.
"Oh, sorry! Maybe if you were better at throwing and weren't such a loser that wouldn't have happened." Kasta then walked away leaving everyone in an awkward silence. An MTF trooper had an idea to fix this and quickly ran up to the DJ station, inserted a disk, and started playing music. Everyone then started cheering as they got on the dance floor. Some were all talking, dancing, or eating the food but they were all having a good time and so was Iris and Meri. Agent Victory ran to them both and hugged them tightly which nearly broke both their backs.
"Ah! So- Sorry I did- did- didn't mean to do tha- that."
"Haha... Its- Its ok Cindy, I guess you're still getting used to being so strong now."
"Say, is your voice, ok? I hear it glitching."
"A- A- Ah, I uh, don't- don't know I guess I'll need to ask big- big- big brother to look at it la- la- later. I'm still get- get- getting used to tal- tal- talking."
"Don't let Daniel hear you say that he still hates being called brother by Tau-5."
"He- He- He also hates being called Da- Da- Daniel, its better to just say Dr. Wicked. Though, I- I- I don't know why, He- He- He doesn't hate the others but- but- but he still doesn't like- like- like to associate- being with the- the- them."
"Hello young ones." The three of them jumped away from the source of that voice as they turned to see it was Dr. Haselhurst.
"Ah... hi, you're not going to try and cure me... again?"
"Of course not, I found that joy is a surprising benefactor against the pestilence, and I see no shortage of it today. Besides, young lady, you should be well aware of the deal I made with the Foundation. I have no reason to harm anyone when I have plenty or rats to pursue my tests on."
"Right..."
"Of course, today is not the time of science but the second-best thing that being celebration. I personally hope you both enjoy yourselves and that you'll like the gift I have you."
"You brought gifts?"
"Indeed, in fact everyone did, including that psychotic specimen did, what was he called, SCP-076-2?"
"Able, Dr. Haselhurst, his name is Able." Meri then noticed Iris getting visibly upset, Iris hated it when they called each other by their SCP numbers, it wasn't hard to see why.
"Of course, forgive me. Anyways I believe this doctor has taken up enough of your time, thought instead it seems another doctor is only second away from taking my place." Iris, Meri, and Agent Cidney Victoria looked at Dr. Haselhurst in confusion. He then pointed to the stage and the three of them saw Dr. Wicked on there and heading straight for the piano. The three of them were left wide eyed and their jaws dropping as it was obvious why he was up there but the idea of him playing music was definingly unheard of.
Suddenly Dr. Wicked pressed a button on a remote that he was holding, and a large blank screen started coming down on the back of the stage like a curtain. Dr. Wicked then pressed another button and a projector started playing a paused video on the projector curtain. He walked up to the MTF trooper playing as a DJ and signaled him to stop playing music and asked for a microphone.
"Ahem, now as you are all now, I really don't want to be here, and I think this whole thing is a waste of time. I mean if you want to express you love for one another just have sex or something." Everyone started groaning or sighing in embarrassment. Iris in particular started scratching the back of her head in embarrassment while her facial expression made it clear how equally mad, she was. Meri was smiling but it was clear in her eyes that she really wanted Dr. Wicked to stop talking. Then Agent Pardy showed up and got both their attention and to try to comfort them.
"It's ok sweetheart he's just trying to make a joke."
"No, I'm not, Bill. I mean everything I say, now shut up!" Agent Pardy then sighed and remained quiet, just like everyone else he was just hoping whatever Dr. Wicked was doing, it would end quickly.
"Well then, since nothing I could do could stop this stupid wedding I figured might as well do something that will show my appreciation, for which I have none." Dr. Wicked then walked over to the piano got himself ready and placed the microphone in stand close to his face so he could keep speaking.
"Though if it’s of any consideration, this one goes out to Iris, you are very lucky to be with someone like Meri, I wish you have lots of love and happiness in your future with her. You really do deserve it." Iris placed her hands over her heart as she thought what Dr. Wicked said was really touching. Also, the fact that he normally doesn't say stuff like that made it even more touching. Meri then grabbed her shoulders and smiled at her while Agent Pardy playfully nugged her with his elbow and smiled in delight.
"And to Meri... you can do better." Then the moment of warmth was killed, Meri was shocked and confused, Iris was visibly annoyed and enraged, and Agent Pardy quickly backed away from Iris as to not get caught up in her wrath. However, before Iris or anyone else could express their annoyance or wrath, Dr. Wicked started playing the piano. He was playing a beautiful and classical song that Iris didn't recognize but still loved the sound of. Everyone remained silent as Dr. Wicked and kept on playing for about a minute, then he finally stopped. Everyone immediately started clapping and cheering once he was done.
"Shut up you idiots! That was just a warmup!" Everyone immediately stopped clapping and shut their mouths. Iris was quickly getting annoyed again, so Meri kissed her on the cheek and hugged her to comfort her. Iris was still annoyed but she still wrapped her arm around her wife to show her appreciation trying. Then Dr. Wicked grabbed the remote he had earlier and the video on the projector. Iris raised an eyebrow at first while Meri was concerned thinking it was going to be another horrible trick or prank. Perhaps that what this whole thing was, just Dr. Wicked's petty revenge for getting involved in this.
However, they were all proven wrong when Dr. Wicked started playing the piano again as the video on the projector started presenting photos. Some photos showed Iris as a little girl when she first came to the Foundation and others when Meri was first taken in as a baby. Meri and Iris looked at each other as these memories weren't exactly something either of them were fond of. Then more photos of Foundation staff with Meri and others of Foundation staff with Iris, smiling into the camera. Then to everyone's shock Dr. Wicked started singing.
When you were born Something changed My heart could not contain The miracle Of this world And all that it creates
Then pictures of young Iris smiling while being held by an annoyed Dr. Wicked who appears the exact same back then as he does now. Now Iris was smiling again as now she was able to see what Dr. Wicked was trying to do. Then there were more pictures, one where Meri, Dr. Wells, and Iris were playing together as kids, one where Iris and Agent Victoria where sloppily putting make up on each other, and finally one where Iris, Meri, Agent Wells, Agent Victoria, Dr. Stefansdottir, and Emily were all together as kids, they were riding Emily's pet SCP-040-1j. Meri started hugging Iris more tightly and let her head rest on the side of Iri's, Iris peaked at her from the corner of her eye and blushed while mentally praising her wife’s beauty. Iris then backed away from her wife and kissed her on the cheek; afterwards she gently rested her head on Meri's head as the two of them continued to watch the presentation and listen to Dr. Wicked playing piano and singing.
With every passing day The winds might grow stronger And carry us away But we will hold on to Joy to light the way To keep the reminder That love does not escape
Now there were photos showing Meri and Iris in their teenage years and together, there was one where Iris was showing her power to Meri to impress her. Iris blushed in embarrassment when a pictured showed where they were both sitting on a ledge watching the sunset together. The next photo showed that it was Dr. Wells and Agent Wells who took the picture and were covering their mouths while chuckling at the sight of Iris and Meri being together. The next photo then showed Dr. Wells using his hand to make one half of a heart and Agent Wells using her hand to make the other half; the camera was angled so that inside the heart was Iris and Meri from a distance. Iris then looked at Meri who was redder than a tomato as she was blushing due to overwhelming embarrassment and joy. Iris chuckled in embarrassment but then saw Dr. Wells and Agent Wells looking at her and waving joyfully at her while playfully laughing. Iris then made a playful angry face at them and quickly laughed in appretiation towards them.
I'm yours forever There is no end in sight for us Nothing could measure The kind of strength inside our hearts It's all connected We're all together in this love Don't you forget it We're all connected in this love We're all connected in this love We're all connected in this love
Now there were pictures of when Iris asking Meri out on a date. Another showing them going on a date in a small town, with Foundation agents guarding them. Then there was a picture of the agents covering their mouths and blushing as they were watching the two of them on their date being loving and kissing. Next there was a picture of Iris and Meri telling their friends that they were dating. The next few photos showed each of their friend's reactions to the news and showing them their joy of the two being together. Iris and Meri loved watching this and held each other more tightly. Meanwhile everyone around them started pointing out times they were there and what they also remembered happening that day.
Beyond the stones and the seas The sun and the breeze The stars and the galaxy Beyond the time that we take The days that we make I'm always gonna to be with you
Then finally it showed a more recent picture when Iris proposed to Meri. Suddenly everyone around them started cheering at the sight of the picture. They next few pictures weren't that far apart from one another. The second was just Meri saying yes, the third was them hugging in excitement, and the last was the two of them kissing. Now everyone was cheering at the sight of the picture. The crowd ended up cheering louder when Iris and Meri decided to kiss again. At the same time Dr. Wicked had reached the final course of the song.
I'm yours forever There is no end in sight for us Nothing could measure The kind of strength inside our hearts It's all connected We're all together in this love Don't you forget it We're all connected in this love We're all connected in this love We're all connected in this love
Now the video was over and Dr. Wicked stopped playing, he simply bowed and walked off the stage. Meanwhile the MTF Trooper got back to the DJ station and started playing music for everyone again. Everyone was clapping and cheering Dr. Wicked while he was trying to ignore them all. However, his efforts were in vain as Iris ran up to him and hugged him tightly while tears were in her eyes.
"Thank you, Daniel! That was so beautiful!" Agent Victoria and Agent Pardy were scared for Iris's safety since they all knew that Dr. Wicked hated being called by his first name and often punched people who did so. However, Dr. Wicked just sighed and gently pat her head.
"No problem, Iris. I owed you after all."
"Owe me? For what?"
"Eh, you'll figure it out... eventually." Dr. Wicked then walked off leaving Iris annoyed that he didn't elaborate. However, after separating from Iris Agent Victoria quickly grabbed him and hugged him tightly, actually breaking his spine. Dr. Wicked's spine quickly regenerated, and he started yelling at Agent Victoria in anger, to which she just giggled at him. Meri then ran to Iris, and both hugged her and kissed her joyfully.
"How are you feeling darling?"
"I... feel everything! This is all so amazing and wonderful... like not in a million years would I have thought this was possible... especially after... after The Reset." Meri was now filled with concern as Iris's expression turned to sadness. They both remember what happened to them before the reset, Meri knew it was especially hard on Iris considered what happened to her. However, Meri then used her hand to gently raise her chin and so that the two of them could look each other in the eyes.
"That's over now, we're not monster's anymore, we're a family surrounded by friends. And they'll protect us just as we will now protect each other. You know I got your back, Mrs. Clef." Iris looked at Meri and laughed in joy.
"Hahaha, of course, my lovely Mrs. Clef." Iris then leaned toward Meri and kissed her nose then her cheek. The two married women then started laughing lovingly with each other.
"Mrs. Clef? Not Mrs. Thompson? I thought you would keep the Thompson last name." Iris and Meri then looked up to see Agent Belitrov towering over them which was surprising since he wasn't wearing his armor anymore. Iris couldn't help but smile at him, the fact that he could take off his armor was proof that the Foundation did care about them even if it was only a little bit.
"Oh, we talked, and I decided to take Meri's last name, don't get me wrong I do love my old last name, but I wanted to help Meri continue her family legacy as a tribute to her father."
"I already told her that I was perfectly fine with taking her last name, but she insisted on going with my name instead."
"Hey! I told you that it was ok. You didn't pull my hand at all, I wanted to go with your last name." Meri then sighed thought she was still smiling joyfully, Iris then looked at her deviously and snuck another kiss on her cheek making Meri giggle with joy.
"So, then its Agent Clef now? Good, I'll need to remember that." Agent Beltrov then ruffled both their heads and walked away with a smile on his face. Iris however was annoyed.
"I told him I hate it when he does that."
"You know he likes to rub it in that he's taller than everyone else."
"He could learn too not be so obnoxious about it." Meri laughed at that, and Iris kissed her on the cheek in response. Meri then looked at her with a playful angry face and quicky kissed Iris on the forehead once and the cheek twice. The two of them laughed and smiled lovingly at one another and afterwards went to the dance floor to keep greeting their friends and other guests.
***
After some time had passed Meri stepped out of the simulation room and into the Foundation hallway. She did so to get some fresh air and clear her head, thought that was a little strange to say considering that she was still inside the Site and therefore was getting filtrated air. Then again there's no air fresher in the world than that filtrated by the Foundation ventilations, she thought to herself.
"Having fun, Love?" Meri was shot out of her train of thought to see Dr. Zeek in front of her leaning against wall.
"Oh, hello Harvey. What are you doing out here?"
"Well, I can't stand loud music and being around so many people for a long time, so I stepped out. Just needed to clear my head is all."
"Ah, same here actually, don't get me wrong I love that everyone is here I guess I'm just not used to it."
"Comes with the territory, I guess. Everyone here at the Foundation mostly does their work alone or with few other people, so it's kind of hard to get used to being around so many people at a time."
"I see, didn't even think of that."
"Well better get back in there, it won't be long before the O5 will get on everyone's ass for having this wedding in the first place. You know how those faceless bastards are."
"Of course, I really should get back to Iris but... can I ask you something?"
"... Ask away, Love."
"Right so, I'm not sure when but, when me and Iris have kids-" Dr. Zeek then started coughing as he was seemingly choking on nothing.
"*Cough, cough* ugh, ahem! Whoa there, Love! Slow down yea? You just got married and your already thinking of kids?"
"I said I wasn't sure when! But anyways, that's not my point. I'm just asking for a favor." Dr. Zeek managed to calm down but looked at Meri with skepticism and then gave off a long sigh.
"... Alright, alright. I'm listening."
"Thank you, you're the only one I can trust with this, I know Iris trust's Dr. Wicked but... I don't know why but I can't."
"I honestly don't blame you but from what I heard from Bill he's actually a pretty reliable guy. When he's not being an asshole that is."
"Hm, well anyways I just wanted to ask, when me and Iris have kids, and if they end up being anomalous like us... please don't let the O5 separate them from us." Dr. Zeek stopped relaxing by leaning against the wall, he was now standing straight and looking at Meri in concern.
"I know it sounds selfish; I mean a normal parent would want their kids to be free even if they never got to see them again but... I don't want to be separated from my family, not again." Meri then started crying as she was thinking about her dad and how he had to not only abandon her but sacrifice himself to keep her alive. Dr. Zeek quickly ran up to her and hugged her tightly, she then hugged him back while crying to show her appreciation.
"Don't you worry for a second, Love. If you kids happen to grow horns or jump through pictures, I won't let those faceless bastards one inch close to your babes." Meri smiled, she then let go of Dr. Zeek and faced him as she wiped her tears away.
"Thank you."
"Anytime, Love, thought I gotta ask. What happens if by the off chance they don't become anomalous?"
"Wh- what?"
"Wells there's the working theory that what makes anomalous humans like you, Iris, Agent Miller, the Wells, and Corvio is a lot like a recessive gene. So even if we create an artificial womb and put both your and Iris's DNA into it, there's a high chance that the resulting child will have no anomalous properties. So, what should we do then?"
"... I'll have to ask Iris that."
"Heh, good answer, my mum always said it wasn't wise to hide things form your cook. Especially if that cook is someone like Iris, Love." Meri giggled and smiled warmly at Dr. Zeek, while he gently placed his hand on her cheek.
"Oi, it's going to be alright, Love, ya hear? Both now and in the future. For you, Iris, and whatever Babes come popping out."
"Hahaha, gross!"
"You're the one who brought it up, now stop hanging out with this Old Geezer and go pash ye Sheila, Love!" Meri giggled, kissed Dr. Zeek on the cheek and ran off back into the simulation chamber. Dr. Zeek laughed as he watched her run back in and lovingly hug Iris as soon as she saw her. But then his vision of her was halted when the doors closed, he just stayed out in the hallway while looking at the floor and sighing deeply.
"Your daughter seems to be doing ok." Dr. Zeek then looked back to see Dr. Wicked standing there with his signature bored and emotionless expression and medical mask.
"She ain't my daughter, Bloke."
"Technically your correct, do you ever intend to tell her the truth of her father?"
"... Its better if he stays dead."
"Fair enough. It's not exactly easy to explain given The Reset, now let's stop talking about it before the Red Right Hand comes marching in. What was that she was talking to you about?"
"Sorry, Bloke, made a promise to keep it a secret."
"... So, she asked you to keep help protect her future kids from the O5." Dr. Zeek looked at Dr. Wicked shocked while he himself didn't change his expression at all.
"Wha- How- Wha... HOW?"
"Iris asked me the same thing a minute ago."
"... Ah... ugh, these girls I tell ya. Well, either way I'm going to keep my promise and keep their babes safe."
"Well, I personally don't have a problem since it wouldn't be the first time for me, but it's also because I know I won't die. You on the other hand... are you sure you really want to risk your life like that? We all only got a second chance because of The Reset, and there's no guarantee it will happen again."
"Argh! Piss off with that shit you broody Bloke, you honestly thing I would give up just because it's impossible? We're the foundation, the anomalies don't stop coming so we don't stop fighting remember?"
"... Heh, guess it wouldn't be the first time we had to deal with near impossible odds, and wouldn't be the first time the enemy was the O5 themselves. If it does come to that it's going to be one hell of a battle."
"It's not like it wouldn't be worth it in the end to keep the girls and all the other kids safe."
"Fair enough. Well, I'm out of here, had enough of this sickeningly wholesome party anyways, also need to get Elrin and Kasta back to their rooms before Kasta kills someone." Dr. Wicked waved Dr. Zeek goodbye as he walked off.
"Oi! Nice piano work earlier by the way!"
"Thanks, I used an SCP to steal that song form the future. So, the O5 Council is probably going to kill me later... again." Dr. Zeek was left there speechless as Dr. Wicked walked away, he then smiled again and went back into the simulation room with everyone else as the wedding after-party continued.

“There will be more visitors at Pardis Dhyai than usual today. You should go into standby mode deeper in the greenhouse.” Tighnari told Karkata. The mechanical crab rumbled and its metal plates slumped inward in disappointment. Despite being a machine, Karkata was as expressive as a living being. He lightly patted Karkata’s head. “Must I remind you that the Akademiya will confiscate you if they learn of your existence. I’ll give you a reward once I’m done with work.”
Tighnari found Karkata while investigating a contaminated zone in the forest. While he only took a few classes with the Spantamad, the concept of mechanical life fascinated him. Something that appeared cold and restrained could hold more warmth than the scholars he knew. That could also describe people he loved. People called Cyno cold and others would fear Collei due to the vengeful god within her. With that comparison, he decided to save Karkata and make it a research assistance.
He needed to keep Karkata in Pardis Dhyai to keep it hidden from the Matra. Ironically, it was the General Mahamatra himself who helped him hide Karkata. Cyno graduated from the Spantamad Darshan and he was able to give him advice on how to care for the mechanical crab. Most people only saw Cyno as the General Mahamatra but Tighnari knew him as so much more. He was a proud Matra, a caring father to Collei and a childish TCG player. Tighnari loved each aspect of him.
“The Amurta students will be here in an hour so you don’t need to hide yet. You can help me set up the plant cultivation. Come inside too, Cyno.” Tighnari looked over his shoulder to the entrance and grinned when he saw Cyno. He could sense whenever Cyno was nearby from his unique footsteps. Karkata ran around Tighnari and to Cyno’s side. As if it were a dog, it rose onto its hind legs and waited for him to pet it. “Karkata has taken a liking to you, Cyno.”
When he first brought Karkata to Pardis Dhyai, it was rather protective of him. He understood that Karkata didn’t want to lose another master like it did with Abattouy. It slowly came to trust Cyno. Cyno placed a yellow flower into the slit of Karkata’s shell and the crab scurried back to Tighnari. Tighnari giggled and lifted the flower to his nose. “Did you teach Karkata this trick?”
“Karkata is a quick learner.” Cyno’s smirked. The slight tilt of his lips and the rare sight made his heart race. He usually wore a stoic expression and Tighnari loved the moments Cyno could be himself. He walked across the greenhouse to his side and he picked up a potted plant. “Is this one of the exotic plants for the seminar? I’ll carry it outside for you.”
“As long as I don’t take too much of your time. I’m guessing that you’re on patrol but stopped by. Collei cooked more than enough food for the researchers and students so you should take a pita pocket. She won’t mind. Actually, she has been testing new recipes for our next dinner with you. She’s excited. Do you know the next time you’ll be free and we can eat together?”
Tighnari asked the question for both Collei and himself. They both had busy jobs so it would be selfish of him to expect him to spend every night together. Yet, there was still a part of Tighnari who yearned for that. No matter how difficult the distance could be, he wouldn’t choose anyone but Cyno. They would create a future for Sumeru where they could be together each day without worrying about their jobs.
“I’m here to provide security for Pardis Dhyai’s plant cultivation exhibit and I’ll be free after that. I can have dinner with you two after the plant cultivation.” Cyno told him.
“Security?” Tighnari flicked his finger against a leaf from the plant Cyno carried. “I’m an expert on plants and I don’t see much of a threat here— let alone one that requires the attention of the General Mahamatra. Is there something I should know? Do you suspect that someone will try to attack Pardis Dehyai or steal the rare plants? Even if you can’t tell me the details, let me warn Collei at least.”
For a moment, Cyno was silent. Tighnari stepped closer to him and looked into his red eyes to read his expression. A rare blush crept onto Cyno’s cheeks and he turned away from him. “The Matra doesn't have any pressing investigations that require my attention. Then, I saw the request from Pardis Dhyai to have a Matra present for their exotic plant cultivation. I volunteered.”
“Oh?” Tighnari’s initial surprise was quickly followed by a warm wave of happiness. He didn’t know he could still feel so giddy with Cyno despite already dating for years. While Cyno didn’t directly say that he took the job to be with him and Collei, Tighnari could guess his intention. He took the rope of Cyno’s helmet and gently pulled him closer. Then, he ran his fingers over his strong shoulders. “Well, it’s very reassuring to know that you’re here to protect me from the scary plants.”
“No matter how friendly a Fungi appears, it is important to keep a safe distance from them. They’re fungus who absorbed elemental energy and evolved.” Tighnari said as he walked through the line of rare plants on display. The exhibit was decorated with cartoon flowers, Aranara and Fungi that Collei created. He gestured to her art and added: “However, you shouldn’t impulsively kill it either. Fungi can carry pollen and seeds of rare plants much like bees. If you encounter a Fungi, please inform a Forest Ranger.”
Pardis Dhyai initially planned to have the exotic plant exhibit to cultivate the plants with the help of volunteers. The event soon became a lecture led by Tighnari. New Amurta students started to ask Tighnari questions about biology and he readily taught them. Cyno watched him with a proud smile. He was reminded of how different Tighnari was from other scholars.
Beside him, Collei rushed to write down Tighnari’s words. He looked over his shoulder and caught a glimpse at her notebook. Her writing was a little messy but she had progressed a lot in a short time. Cyno knew that it was from a combination of Collei’s determination and Tighnari’s patient teaching. She must’ve felt him staring because she turned to him.
Collei quickly turned away and she fumbled to close her notebook. She hid the small book behind her back and muttered something beneath her breath. Her embarrassed reaction made him feel guilty. He wanted to reassure her that she didn’t need to feel self conscious about her handwriting and that it had improved. He couldn’t find the words though. Cyno feared that he would say the wrong thing and make her feel worse. He wished that he could be better with words like Tighnari.
In the end, Cyno patted her head like a father would. “I know a few plant facts too. The Jadeplume Terrorshrome lay deviled eggs. You should write this down and tell it to Tighnari at dinner tonight. It’ll impress him. I spent a week thinking of that joke for Tighnari but you can use it.”
“That was a pun?”
“You see, deviled eggs is a breakfast meal but the key word is ‘devil’. The Jadeplume Terrorshrome is a Fungi that looks like a chicken and it will attack anyone who approaches. Chicken lay eggs. Following that logic—”
“Cyno, please save your jokes for after the exotic plant cultivation is complete. You might find those jokes funny but it’ll distract Collei from learning.” Tighnari interrupted their conversation. Most would be too intimidated to speak so curt with a Matra but Cyno didn’t mind. He smiled despite Tighnari’s tone and Tighnari felt himself soften. “I finished answering the class’s questions. Can you help me check on one of the plants?”
“It looks like Tighnari rescued you from my jokes.” Cyno chuckled with Collei.
“I thought that was one of your funnier puns.” He didn’t know whether she said it to be kind or if it was the truth. Nevertheless, he felt proud that he could make her smile again.
They walked to a large fern with limp leaves. From a glance, Cyno could see that the plant was sick. Tighnari should easily be able to treat a plant so Cyno reasoned that the issue could be a leyline disorder. His eyes fell onto two people that were already studying the plant. The shorter of the two stood and Cyno immediately knelt in front of the two.
“Dendro Archon, it is an honour to see you again. If I knew that you would be observing the plant cultivation as well, I would have my Matra escort you.” After he and the others rescued Nahida, they had worked together to reform the Akademiya. She treated everyone as a friend but Cyno was mindful to speak to her as an Archon.
“A handful of humans cannot compare to an Archon’s strength.” The man behind her rolled his eyes.
Cyno recognized him from the Interdarshan Championship but he didn’t know him well. He was certain that few in the Akademiya knew about him. The stranger’s sudden appearance in Sumeru made Cyno suspicious and he tried to investigate his past. He learned very little aside from that he joined the Darshan and worked closely with Nahida.
“Please, there is no merit in this debate, Hat Guy. Cyno was a part of the group that rescued me and I will always be grateful.” She reminded Scaramouche. He clicked his tongue but he didn’t say anything further.
Tighnari brought their conversation back to the fern. “Have you found what could be causing the leaves to be discoloured and brittle, Kusanali?”
He stepped towards them but Cyno stopped him by wrapping his arm around his waist. He pulled him back to his side and held him protectively. Tighnari looked at him in confusion. “Is something wrong, Cyno? I need to diagnose the plant.”
“Sorry.” Cyno couldn’t explain his own action to him because he took his hand out of instinct. Reluctantly, he let go of him. He couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling in his stomach and he remained close by Tighnari’s side through the rest of plant cultivation.
“Cyno, are you planning to hold me like this all night? I love you but I need my arms to sort through these seeds.” The plant exhibit ended but Cyno and Tighnari stayed in Pardis Dhyai. Tighnari intended to catalogue the seeds and write a report for the plant cultivation. Cyno stayed simply to be with him. He stood behind Tighnari with his arms draped over his shoulders. In the position, Tighnari could feel the warmth of his chest pressed against his back.
“You smell like Pardisarah flowers. Are you using a new shampoo? It’s nice.” When he whispered the words, his breath brushed over his ear and tickled his fur. They were so close that Tighnari was certain that he could see him blush. He created the scent with Cyno in mind. He didn’t know that Cyno would be at Pardis Dhyai’s exhibit so Tighnari was pleasantly happy that he tested the shampoo that morning.
“I made it yesterday. Pardisarahs have a subtle scent so I searched for a way to enhance it.” Tighnari went on to explain the different methods he tested. The pride in his work shone in his voice and that excitement drew Cyno in. He loved listening to him talk about plants. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the sound of his voice.
Tighnari’s next words pulled him out of the moment. “That reminds me. When I was treating the fern, you were acting strange. You were tense and on guard. Is it due to Hat Guy? You usually keep your distance from scholars but you aren’t directly hostile with them. Do you suspect that he could be a threat to Sumeru? He’s rude but I didn’t sense any ill-intention from him.”
“I think it’s this place.” Throughout the plant cultivation and the night, Cyno thought over the unnamed fear he had. He lowered his forehead onto Tighnari’s shoulder and held him a little tighter. He took a deep breath and asked: “Does the scar from that thunder strike still hurt?”
The faded scar on his shoulder reverberated with electricity at the mention of lightning. Tighnari couldn’t lie to Cyno and confessed: “Sometimes, I can feel. It’s not painful anymore and I’ve recovered quicker than others with similar injuries.”
While Cyno was in the city to rescue Nahida, Tighnari needed to stay behind to protect Haypasia. Cyno rejected that he wasn’t there to protect him when he was struck by lightning. The logical side of Cyno told him that there was nothing he could’ve done and the random strike of lightning was merely bad timing. Nevertheless, a voice in the back of his mind told him that he needed to protect Tighnari from someone.
“I’m surprised that you can be so calm here in Pardis Dhyai after you were hurt here.”
Tighnari lifted his hand and tenderly stroke Cyno’s hair. “I have far more precious memories here in Pardis Dhyai. Our first date was a picnic in the garden. Collei’s first field trip was here. I wrote my first thesis in this greenhouse. Karkata made this his home. One lightning strike can’t overshadow those things.”

Hello!! I'm pretty new here, but if you don’t mind, I’d like to share a scenario I've been thinking about for a while! So, I've been thinking about Poly Cynonari with a Reader who’s a ballet dancer (or tap dancer - I keep fluctuating between the two) and comes from Fontaine - I quite like the image of the two scholars with an artist! From what we know of Fontaine so far (we’re ignoring the leaks of course), it is a country that “reveres true beauty and elegance,” and I like to think that the Reader is someone who is quite flamboyant, dramatic, and lively. They’re pretty much a theatre kid-
The Reader themselves left Fontaine because it is oppressive and quite dangerous at the moment, so they went to Sumeru (why they went to Sumeru specifically, I’m not sure - maybe they chose violence and decided “You know what? I’m tired of all the rain and cloudiness in Fontaine. We’re going to go somewhere where the sun is out 24/7 and I know I’m going to have a heat stroke.”) Also, in the Genshin wiki, it states that Fontaine locals are antsy because they believe that some type of ‘judgement’ is ’soon to come’, which would be another reason why the Reader left (which I find incredibly ironic because judgement is Cyno’s whole schtick-). Also, apparently, the air in Fontaine is toxic, so when the Reader goes to Avidya Forest with Tighnari they admit “I don’t think I’ve ever breathed in air this fresh before!” Tighnari thinks they’re joking until he looks at them in the eye.
Reader, suffering in the heat of Sumeru: If ‘bread’ in French is pain, then I own f*cking bakery.
I think it would be interesting for two characters to be in a relationship with someone who grew up in a very different environment - Sumeru is a region that prides itself on knowledge and scholarly achievements while Fontaine is a region that prides itself on the arts - in a way, they’re sort of the opposite of each other. What are your thoughts on it? I won’t lie, like in one of your Chase The Mirage posts, I can see the Reader getting negative comments from gossipers. But in addition, I love the image of the Reader teaching Cyno and Tighnari how to dance!
But yeah, this is just me putting down my jumbled-up thoughts, I hope you don’t mind! (Sorry this is so long, by the way-) Also, I love your writing so far!! Keep up the awesome work! :D
Jackdaw Anon 🐦
Omg hello new child, welcome welcome! Ah, the classic artist route for the poly cynonari
Most likely they'd meet in the rainforest since the reader wanted a change of pace, scenery, and fresh air. What I actually like to imagine is just their elegance entrancing their lovers, while Tighnari and Cyno are happily imagining the idea of them wearing Sumeru clothes or a Sumeru theme outfit as their dancing attire.
While they may not be well-versed on tailoring clothes, Cyno has good design visualization and a place he had commissioned his headdress, and Tighnari has a lot of beautiful patterns and accessories on his own drip! He is well fashionable and will definitely want to incorporate the forest/nature into their fit
Admittedly, they are reminded of Kaveh at first glance since they do have the same vibe, which makes it easier for them to get along in the first place. Their love for passion and the quality of life from Sumeru's natural beauty may seem childish but the innocence of it is definitely something I can imagine that would make Cyno and Tighnari smile when reminded of their lover
I think their favorite hangout would definitely be Pardis Dhyai, because the two have free access to its grounds, it is wide for dancing, and the view is absolutely gorgeous. Scholars would even watch from a distance when they happen to pass by, at times seeing all three of them dance on a relaxing night. From what we know from the story, not all scholars are haters of the arts and some even enjoy watching it (even attending the shows, from Nilou's SQ) so if it's in a secluded place like Pardis they're safe
I actually wonder if Cyno and Tighnari would entertain the idea of suggesting Zubayr Theatre if they're really that passionate. Collei would probably mention it, so I can also imagine the two boyfriends throwing flowers and petals every time their lover ends their performance, that seems like a thing they'd do <33 They do have to watch out for when their lover starts missing water, waterfalls and rivers in Sumeru aren't really the safest when it's infested with so many crocodiles and fungi,,
I don't mind the length so please don't say sorry, and thank you for the compliment!

AC mentioned that it’s hard to take Kaveh seriously as a genius architect, and I agree.
To start with, he shares a setting with people like “Aberaku, Helios-Forger,” a dude who made an entire artificial sun AND the massive temple where its housed. We have ancient ruins that are still breathtaking, like Old Mondstadt, Sal Vindagnyr, Nantianmen, and absolutely everything in the desert. How can you even peep about building something amazing when you have the double pyramid next door?
And that’s not even getting into more modern stuff like Ningguang’s Jade Chamber.
But it also doesn’t help that Mihoyo really obviously just did not care to spend time making Palace of Alcazarzaray look particularly good.
It’s actually a rather small structure, with one pavilion like we have for the teapot, one small side building, one slightly larger main building, and nothing else. It’s all in the same Sumeru main city style at that.
Compare Alcazarzaray:
To Pardis Dhyai:
At least the Pardis Dhyai greenhouse is unique, and they even have much fancier gardens. But it’s definitely hard to tell that Alcazarzaray is supposed to be something outstanding from the way it’s rendered in-game.
It’s really very unfortunate, since I like Kaveh and would love for him to actually live up to the hype. But alas.

Tighnari | Charmolypi
ıllı Synopsis: Fate loves to play a cruel game. When the name of your fated is engraved on your wrist, it is between the parties whether they end up as a couple or forever becoming strangers. However, there is always a consequence for those who wishes to challenge fate.
ıllı Genre: Angst, Slight Comfort
ıllı Notes: Gender Neutral Reader
ıllı Part 2: Tighnari - Over Panacean Lotuses
Emotions and relationships are often baffling and exhausting. It can range from pure joy to inculpable anger. Oftentimes, an individual can experience more than two emotions depending on the situation. These affect the relationships and boundaries people set with each other. Not understanding what one feels often results in fear, guilt, loneliness, and regret. One student once said that in order to achieve mutual understanding, they should spend time together and let time take its course.
‘But because of how different our professions had become, you and I drifted far from each other.’ You thought, looking down at Tighnari and the Traveler as they enjoy their stroll in the Avidya Forest. Initially, you wanted to see the Forest Watcher and tell him your whereabouts, but he was already occupied. There was nothing left for you, not even the space you once filled in his heart.
Like a glass hit by a bullet, cracks swiftly crept up your heart. No matter how much assurance you gave to yourself to mend the pain, Tighnari proved you otherwise. You could only give a bitter smile. Pining for a man enamored by the Traveler’s charms was truly dangerous.
‘There will only be regrets. But do I regret loving you? I’m not sure. Maybe, I’ve been delusional, hoping that with the time we spent, you and I could have fallen in love with each other.’ Wiping the tears, you took a deep breath and turned around. You took the callused hand of the person waiting behind you. The shake of your head signaled to him that you will not proceed with your original plan.
“I see. I’ll treat you to your favorite food later then.” He comforted. It was surprising, for this man to offer warm words. You laughed and told him that aside from food, you would love to get some books for your next research too.
“I’m spoiling you now?” He teased. You simply grinned, not noticing the faint glow on your wrist. It slipped from your mind that fate loved to play a cruel game with people. When the name of your fated is engraved on your wrist, both parties either end up being together or forever becoming strangers. The consequence of the latter is that the person who bore the strongest affection ends up being consumed by the curse, slowly dangling between rationality and madness.
It was a month later that Tighnari noticed your disappearance. It confused him at first as to why you have not visited Gandharva Ville in a while, but he attributed it to your busy schedule. He missed the times when you both would sneak out in the dark of the night to watch the moon cast its glow upon the lake of lotuses. It gave him comfort just thinking about going back to those times. He thought of inviting you again, a form of relaxation from your exhausting jobs. All of his plans fell into the abyss when Cyno broke the news to him.
“Nobody has seen (Y/N)? What do you mean, Cyno?” Tighnari asked, confused as to how nobody knew where you were.
“It’s just as I said, Tighnari. It has been for a month now. I tried to ask the locals if there had been any sightings, but nothing came up.” Cyno confessed, slightly frustrated that there was also nothing coming up with his search. It had been reported to him by your advisor, and he promised to look out for you. But it was like you vanished in the wind.
Tighnari’s breathing quickened. The last time you two saw each other was after Karkata started residing in Pardis Dhyai. He recalled back your conversations with him, hoping for a clue as to where you could have gone. Knowledge capsules, Akademiya researchers, madness, fates, and desert, he could only recall these.
“Have you tried asking in Aaru Village? Or interrogating Eremites?” Tighnari inquired, desperation evident in his voice. He tried to remain calm, he did, but for some reason, his heart was telling him that something was wrong.
“I haven’t. Let me see what I can get from my side. I’ll send a messenger if I ever get anything.” Cyno promised.
Tighnari thanked the general, opting to go back to his office to finish his papers. While sorting them out, he noticed a faint glow on his wrist. Your name was engraved in there, but what frightened him was the way it was fading.
‘Why… is it fading?’
“Ack…! It hurts!” The pain in your chest was unbearable, the engraving on your wrist flickering in the dim room. Ever since you decided to stay away from Tighnari, the crack that crept up your heart continuously grew to the point that you would shed tears, losing in the delusion of pain.
‘Please, stop. He doesn’t love me that way. He… prefers the Traveler! Enough!’ But deep in your heart, there was still a bud of hope, unrelenting to the barrage of negative emotions that coated your mind.
“(Y/N), you have to take this medicine.” Alhaitham whispered, coaxing you to take the liquid vial in his hands. Your gaze zoomed on his cerulean-orange irises. He could see how much the curse had already affected you, but he will have to force you to take the medicine to ensure your safety during the mission.
The Temple of Silence tasked you two to investigate the mysterious occurrences involving ruin golems found in the mountains near Lower Setekh. However, the curse suddenly acted up upon noticing how you were killing your emotions. Alhaitham noticed the symptoms and formulated the remedy that researchers from before had concocted. The medicine will act as a barrier for your memories to rescind and keep the curse at bay. You will feel pain at times, but continuous ingestion should numb it. The Scribe was not a fan of such a method, but this was currently the only available treatment.
“Alhaitham… why is falling in love so painful? I thought it was supposed to feel like a miracle?” You muttered, clutching his hand.
“Because you found him perfect in this imperfect world.” He simply answered. It dawned on you just how much you love him, how much you yearned for the man you couldn’t have. A pity, really.
“I see… I—“ You took the medicine from his hand and drank it. Like a miracle, the pain subsided, allowing you to take a breather. You turned to Alhaitham, held his hand, and discussed what you will do from here on out. He questioned your actions, but you assured him that you knew the consequences. You were foolish enough already, so why not take it up the notch?
Two days later, the Scribe was surprised by your speedy recovery. You gave him a wry smile and joked that it should do so considering the Great Scribe was willing to take care of you for free. Alhaitham scoffed, flicking your forehead. He told you about his own progress during your recovery, and he had already drawn a route for you to take. You were calculating the things you will need for the trip, while Alhaitham took notice of your blank eyes. He grew uncomfortable with it.
“I chose this on my volition, Alhaitham. You don’t need to worry. We should get to the first one before night falls. There are 4 golems sighted, but we should finish scouting in a week or two. That is if nothing goes awry.” You commented. He pointed out a caravan town near the mountain as well as the black market there that could potentially slow you two down should Eremites block you.
“All right. I presume you already got your things ready. Let me just bring mine out then we can head out. We have to thank Candace and the Village Chief for keeping quiet and letting us here too.” You reminded. He nodded and decided to wait by reading the book you got from Dori for half its original price.
You both wore your cloaks in preparation for the sandstorm. While on the road, your mind drifted off to Tighnari, thinking if he was out, spending time with the Traveler again. He had his responsibilities, you knew, but he never failed to give time to those that mattered to him.
‘Just like how he does with mine. I’m so jealous of you, Traveler.’ You confessed to yourself. What you failed to notice was the faint glow of your mark despite the name fading.
As for Tighnari, his heart felt heavier with each passing day. He was desperate to know where you were, why you were gone without telling him, and simply hold you in his embrace. As distracted as he was, he still tried to be the Forest Watcher everybody expected him to be. Too much to say that even Collei was now worried. Her master had the patience of the sky, but ever since the Mahamatra informed you of your disappearance, the fennec fox seemed more irritable and would snap often. He would apologize once he recognized it, but Collei knew that her master deeply cared for you, more than anything else. She did not even see him go with the Traveler—
“Hold on. Didn’t (Y/N) want to meet up with Master a month ago? They looked like they were going somewhere based on their clothing and bag, but… it was also the time that Master was with the Traveler to check for Withering Zones. Was there some kind of misunderstanding here?” She muttered to herself. If there really was, then this predicament was a mess.
Tighnari, who was sitting in his office, could not concentrate. His mind would drift to you, worry paining his heart. He could hear the crack in his heart deepen, but he reassured himself that you will be all right, that you will be back in his arms.
It was a week later that he finally heard from Cyno. You were spotted with Alhaitham recovering in Aaru Village. He did not know why you were with the Scribe, but he needed to see you right away. Tighnari called for Collei and the other forest rangers, informing him of his sudden departure for the desert. They nodded, not exactly sure why, but they trust him that he will be back. The fennec fox gave Amir and Collei the tasks for the week before turning to Cyno, who was waiting at the door.
“M-Master! Before you go, I have something to say.” Collei called out. She confessed to him about your visit to Gandharva Ville before you disappeared. He could see conflict in her eyes and assured her that he was not mad. He, too, wanted to know why you did not go talk to him about things.
“If there really is a misunderstanding here, Master, please be honest with them.” She advised. Tighnari ruffled her hair and smiled before taking off.
It took almost five hours for them to reach Aaru Village. Tighnari was sweating bullets, already not liking the heat, but he persevered. He was desperate to see you. Although that desperation was washed away when he saw Alhaitham take your hand and rest his right hand on your forehead. You leaned at the touch before closing your eyes and dozing off.
Alhaitham took a deep breath, glancing to the side to recognize the company they had. His piercing gaze zoomed on the Forest Watcher who felt jealousy bubble through his body.
“I would like to respectfully ask you to back off from them, Scribe.” Tighnari voiced with a hint of threat evident in his tone. Alhaitham stood in front of you.
“Oh? What business does the Forest Watcher want with my partner?” Alhaitham asked. The word partner irked the fennec fox, his tail raised in alarm at somebody touching what was his. The thought of you being his crossed his mind, having a short epiphany of his feelings, but he let out a sigh and informed him that he needed to talk to you.
“I can’t let you do that, I’m sorry.” He turned around, about to wake you up and escort you back inside, but Tighnari did not let him. He held his hand tightly and pushed him away. The Scribe was about to protest when he felt the cackle of thunder surround him.
“Explain what is happening, Alhaitham.” Cyno ordered. The Scribe held a hand to his face in irritation. The Temple of Silence told them that this was a secret mission, and if they General Mahamatra questioned them, they only give him a summary about it. No other details should be revealed.
With a huff, he explained the short version of the nature of your mission. He redacted the sensitive information before moving to your case.
“You two are aware of the curse on fated, right? (Y/N) here is of a similar case. It was affecting our mission, so they took the medicine numerous times until the end of it. When we reached Aaru Village four days ago, they already stopped consuming it. This is the result of their decision. When the fated do not end up together, the one with stronger affection spirals into madness. Luckily, theirs was not on the extreme side. Hence, I would like to ask why they ended up taking that decision, Forest Watcher Tighnari. Aren’t you their fated?” He asked, mockery and anger visible in his eyes. Tighnari clenched his fist, looking at you in sadness.
“It was a misunderstanding I think. Collei told me about it, and I want to explain everything to them. Is there anything I can do to help with their recovery?” Tighnari asked. Alhaitham saw his determination and sighed.
“I’m not sure. They’ve been like a blank slate here, often whispering your name and crying. I can only comfort them by holding their hand, but other than that, they could still function normally.” He uttered. Tighnari crouched down and held your left cheek. At the touch of something familiar, your blank eyes opened to stare back at him. The murky irises scared him. It felt like you were descending to the abyss, and he will not be able to get you back.
“I am not ready to entrust them to you, Master Tighnari. Let them stay here for three more days before you take them to Gandharva Ville. Prove to me that you really love them and willing to go to lengths to have them with you. They’ve been through so much already, and I think I have enough right to see through it.” Alhaitham negotiated. Tighnari did not like his tone one bit, but something told him that he was left with no choice but to abide. He glanced back at Cyno who told them that he will inform Candace and the chief.
Once he was gone, Tighnari sat down beside you and let you lean on his shoulder. You dozed off at the familiar heat, not really knowing who it was. His heart cracked once more, feeling himself tear up at your predicament.
“Bring them inside, the cold nights of the desert cause them to shiver more than humans should. Don’t worry, I also won’t touch your mate.” The Scribe teased. Tighnari huffed but followed through. He carried you inside and laid you on your bed. He watched your peaceful sleep, before he turned to Alhaitham.
“What is your relationship with them?” He asked. The Scribe glanced back at him and muttered his answer. Tighnari was surprised but immediately understood what this was all about. He really had a lot to explain and repent once you finally recovered.
“I can only promise that I'll stay by their side until then." He muttered, placing his forehead on yours, hoping for his warmth to reach your heart.

Ephemeral Twilight
Fandom: Genshin Impact Ship: Cyno x Tighnari” Available in ao3 Cyno and Tighnari deities of the desert and forest respectively. They can only meet where their world collides.
"General," the guards saluted before his throne, hauling two bodies tied in thick ropes. They crashed at foot of the elevation, grunting as they heavily lifted their heads right before their king—their deity, their law. "They were found near the edges of the desert, instigating a fire at the border of the forest."
The armrest under Cyno's grip cracked, earning terrified faces from the offenders and petrified bystanders. Even the one holding the fan quivered. He could see the long feather fan shaking from his peripheral view.
The matra held stoned faces on the other hand, awaiting his next command. They were no strangers to the wrath of the general. They were the ones held strictly at spearpoint by the neck, having to be his elite personal command.
And now, to pass on judgement...
The perpetrators released a shriek as he cowered back with his wrists tied while the other was knocked unconscious and was bleeding from the impact when he hit his head by the sharp corner. Maybe it was mercy that he did, unlike the other who had to face a far worse fate.
At the sight of their deity, one should marvel and kiss at their feet. But no- he believes those are meant for the faery in the forest while he—the deity of the desert—Cyno invokes fear.
And fear turns one into madness when driven to a corner. Or perhaps it was desperation.
"The desert-" the man stumbled over his words; throat hoarse from the evident deprivation of water. "The desert is superior! Those pompous forest shanks are to be swallowed by the desert's almighty!"
But such acts were futile for once judgement is handed, it shall be delivered. No matter how loyal one's patriotism, by the faces of the law, it spared no care to those who wield no reverence to its form.
"The desert! For the desert!" The man continued to hail, glorifying the general, who slowly descended down his throne, each step heavier than the last.
His black and violet garbs swayed, empowering each and every movement. The heat in the room melted their skins. The blazing sun fit the eye-shaped hole behind the large throne, enveloping his form in a dark silhouette with a brilliant halo. Such overwhelming magnificence one possesses, only befits the king of the desert. The man marveled at his omnipotence.
When his shadow loomed over the doomed man, that was when the perpetrator read the fate he held in those blood slit eyes. The toothed smile he had faded, pupils shrinking as it reflected the flash of crackling purple.
~
"First sacred rule: never crossed the ten-meter expanse from the border. Your judgement has been decided."
~
The moon eternally rests in the sky above the forest, streaming silver hues through Pardis Dhyai's crystal walls. It did more than just illuminate the structure but it accentuated the beauty of the luminescent flora catered by the royal gardeners, as well as the forest faery's personal strolling ground.
They would usher out when they caught whiff of his tall ears poking above the other side of the plants. At first, it was out of fear and pressure of possibly being watched and scrutinized by their deity but after that one day when he tended the plants with the dumbfounded gardeners, they realized that their fears were unfounded. Although they were sometimes scolded for wrongfully tending to the plants--the first time it happened, they were stricken with panic, fearing they thinned his patience after growing too comfortable and thinking that they'll be thrown to the desert to die as punishment but, instead only got an earful of how to take care of it properly. Soon, they've come to marvel him whenever he departs them his knowledge, growing comfortable under his guidance after realizing his scoldings were graces of his benevolence.
To have him as their deity, they were truly blessed indeed.
As such, they would leave the premises for him to have his time with the plants. As much as he doesn't say it, the gardeners knew how much he preferred the silence as he drowns himself in the ambience of the glowing garden. It was out of respect and admiration that they did, and even if Tighnari truthfully didn't mind their presence, he did not comment.
He appreciated the thought.
The open flower of gold and bluish white stared back at him; his rippling image on the water reflected under the moonlight's gaze. Mellow and almost lucid; anyone who came to witness the faery would think they were in a dream. Bathed in silver halo with his robes of white and shades of green, his neon streaks that adorned the sides of his face were tangled with thin long wires that could be mistaken for golden vines, tiny aureole leaves popping out from its body. His head, crowned with a modest circlet weaved of tangible vines, had an interesting pair of dark, tall fox ears that deemed him the name of the fox faery of the forest.
Pulling the hem of his robes, it flashed porcelain skin before submerged into the water. He gathered his long dark locks on one side—too long in fact that the ends touched the mirror-like night sky surface of the water. It was darkest shade of green one could find in the deep woods.
He scooped up the lotus in his hand and brought it to his face. The golden flecks of pollen flickered in the air, giving off tiny light before fading away. His lips curved a sweet smile; he wondered if he would find this one fascinating too.
He was told constantly by the other who wished to see the things on the other side of the desert. And he’d want Tighnari to tell him all of the plants he knows about it. But both knew it was just wishful thinking. For he belongs to the desert, and his place is in the forest.
Carefully, he transferred it to the basin he prepared, staring at the plant buoyantly bobbed up and down in its new place as if it was as happy as a hopping hydro slime.
He chuckled at the sight. It was but a simple pleasure that was able to draw out those ring bell laughter, yet never heard after one of the desert deity’s jests.
Cyno lifted a finger to his chin, trying to look attentive as he took in the sight in front of him.
The way his face lit up rivaled the great brilliance of the sun. The golden halo omitted from the nilotpala lotus lightly caressed the forest faery’s cheeks. Until that moment, Cyno never felt jealous of such a mundane object who did no crime other than touch this person’s precious porcelain skin.
“It shrunk…” he said, dismayed.
“Perhaps it doesn’t want to lot-us see what’s inside.” That earned him an unamused stare.
“This is fascinating, if not disheartening. And here I thought that it will be always on full bloom. This is a new discovery.” The flower held its petals close, unwilling to let the other see what Tighnari wanted to show him.
Well, if it isn’t a flower that has favoritism.
“As I’ve thought, it could be the sun. But it doesn’t look like it’s decaying like the others do. It could be that it only blooms at night or it prefers humid environments.” He thought, more like muttered to himself like a mental note.
“I couldn’t blame it if only wants to see the moon,” Cyno commented, throwing him a glance.
The soft violet hues and the fiery red rays of the dawn surrounded them like a warm embrace, melting to a breathtaking scene as they fought control over the great dominion above them. Breathtaking indeed, as the desert deity’s gaze lingered instead on the ethereal beauty in front of him. The one who drew the lotus closer to him for inspection while excitedly rambled about the flower. The sun peeking over the horizon reflected the twinkle in his eyes.
His eyes that resemble the forest’s musky brown and lush green proved him to be just that. Like the forest; filled with life, welcoming…kind-hearted. Not like the searing hot desert and the blazing sun that scorches anything unfortunate under it—unforgiving and ruthless. Not even the runes of ancient civilization spared from the testament of time as the sea of sand—ever changing—buries it to be forgotten.
The other sighed.
“Are you sure you feel well?” The desert deity asked; hands made its way to cup the other’s cheek but only hovered a few inches on the side of his face, hesitant as something inside him tickled his stomach with an indescribable sensation. But he quenched his fists, realizing that these were the same hands he used when he brought forth judgement upon his subjects.
His russet eyes searched for any fatigue on the forest faery’s countenance.
Seeing his hand awkwardly reaching out, a light chuckle from the fox graced his ears. Cyno looked away, not knowing what to say, embarrassed, albeit his face did not show it. With a coy smile, the fox leaned to his touch, surprising the other as electric sparks traveled his skin. But he easily welcomed it as he made bolder moves, trying to win a competition that didn’t even existed.
Cyno tangled his fingers in the locks of the fox’s lengthy hair, brushing it down to the tips where it stopped by his waist. He held it, compelled to bring it to his lips. And he did, also trying to steal a glance of the other’s anticipated reaction.
Instead of flustered cheeks, he only blinked then lightly laughed at his antics, completely unfazed. Cyno doesn’t know what he was trying to do or trying to prove, but he knew that this person with him was like an oasis to his desert. Much like this place right now—a safe haven. Their safe haven. The borderlines of the desert and the forest, where the sun and moon both crossed but never meets. Where night and day both exist, where they both exist.
Cyno would kill everything to have this moment last but, that would certainly invoke anger and definitely hatred from forest fox. Hatred that he could not bear to be directed at him. He knew how much Tighnari values life, great or small. That is what he respects about him.
“You haven’t given an answer.”
His tall ears twitched, swaying the long golden ornament attached to its base. Cyno’s gaze gravitated to this small movement. He thought, he would look regal with my jewels and gold. Something like those thick gold-plated wears and laces on the head, befitting someone of his radiance, befitting his status.
But that wouldn’t be like Tighnari. Like the moon, he enjoyed austerity; to only glimmer, not the spotlight of attention. But even so, that what makes the moon enchanting.
The green cape shaped as leaves fluttered from the north breeze heading to the desert. His eyes glossed as he met the other’s reptilian eyes who were perceived as sharp and ruthless whoever stared at them for too long, but in them, Tighnari found veiled desolation. Just like the desert. Devoid. Not much of life to see for hundreds of miles…
Maybe… that is why the desert tries to bury anything underneath its sandy dunes. It doesn’t know how to show love. It wants to keep the memorials of the ones that made him feel more than just a barren land, the ones who kept him company, the ones that made him home. But the love shown was seen as transgression.
Just like how there was something in those dilated eyes of his. The way his eyes changed but his face remained stoic, brewing inside was something longed to spill. Something left unsaid with how he would make sounds as if trying to start a conversation, but caught up in his throat. Then digresses.
“It must be from guiding the forest,” Tighnari sighed, not from tiredness. The corner of his lips was turned up as leaned forward on the gazebo’s railings and stared at the moonlit forest of the other side.
Cyno’s chest squeezed; his hand itched beside him. The view was mesmerizing that he wanted to capture it eternally. But he could only coil his fingers to himself. He couldn’t bring himself to ask for more. He felt satisfied with this yet... As he watched the other’s gaze, Cyno wished he was the sight that the fox gave those eyes for; sparkling with a soft loving smile.
What does he want exactly?
Because of his companion’s silence, he swiveled around to face the forest behind him. Basked under the moonlight’s soft embrace that brought forth eternal twilight, the forest beckoned with serenity and comfort. A distant blue silhouette of a humongous tree towered over them like ants surrounded by lush dark greeneries that stretched beyond the bluish hues of the backdrop. Together with the stars, lights from homes hanging off from its thick branches gave an impression of fireflies from afar.
Cyno was held in awe. Soft to the eyes. Just like the person beside him… unlike the red and yellow ablaze colour of his domain.
He wished to go there someday. But he knows, that “that” someday will never come.
So here they were, relishing everything that happens in between. Because only here, they can accompany each other.
He felt something tangled in between his hands. It was Tighnari’s.
The fox had his ears down in dismay, rubbing circles on top of his palms. Cyno’s heartbeat steadily rose.
“I’m afraid this is when we depart. I must go. My work in the forest cannot fix itself.”
Like the thorn in the deity’s heart, he squeezed their hands. The fox faery knew what the gesture meant and softly smiled.
“This won’t be the last we meet. Do not worry.”
“Good. Because I’m not one to let a sly fox slip away easily,” he said as he brought up dainty fingers to his lips.
“Oh?” he quirked his brow, slightly amused. “Then tell me, dear mahamatra, what did this humble fox commit against the six cardinals for the general to come after me?”
Cyno looked up, one eye curtained by white hair, the other looked penetrating as ever. With his knuckles still to his lips, he mumbled, “For being illegally…”
“Illegally?” he coaxed. Tighnari was sure the deity fell silent after. If he mumbled even the faintest of the syllables under his breath, he would have heard.
But seeing as he said nothing, the fox chuckled. “When the south winds travel to north, you can find me here.”
And that, his figure basked under both rays of the sun and gleam of the moon retreated to the forest, his long white garbs illuminated a silver halo under the moonlit hues befitting for the forest’s deity.

Blog Entry 4: Slither
James Gunns horror comedy "Slither" from 2006 goes beyond being a sci fi flick about alien invasion. Within its layers of gooey mess and bloodshed it carries a sharp critique of the stagnant and closed off nature of rural American communities all wrapped up in a heartfelt nod to B movie classics.
Taking place in the make believe town of Wheelsy, South Carolina "Slither" introduces us to a group of characters embodying small town archetypes. There's the bumbling sheriff Bill Pardy (played by Nathan Fillion) the yet uncouth Grant Grant (portrayed by Michael Rooker) and his glamorous wife Starla (played by Elizabeth Banks). When an extraterrestrial parasite infects Grant turning him into a creature with tentacles and a shared consciousness it brings to light the towns underlying tensions and dysfunctions.
The core message of the movie is that the alien invasion merely magnifies the existing issues in Wheelsy rather than introducing new ones. The town was already metaphorically plagued before the arrival of the slugs. Grants metamorphosis into a all consuming entity reflects his role as the most influential figure in town absorbing resources and individuals into his power. The zombie like townsfolk, under Grants control symbolize conformity and lack of thinking often found in small town settings. In "Slither " Gunn effectively uses body horror and dark humor to bring to life the concept of decay in a town. As highlighted by Roger Ebert, the film unfolds in a town where the mayors expletives echo through Main Street traffic moves at a snails pace prompting cops to clock whippoorwills and even grade school kids are plagued with acne. This portrayal of Wheelsy as a community stuck in stagnation and decline lays the groundwork for the invasion to shake things up albeit in a gruesome manner.
The movies comedic moments often arise from how the characters react to the strange occurrences happening around them. Their refusal to accept change or external influences mirrors the resilience of towns against transformation. Confronted with proof of an extraterrestrial menace many individuals opt for mundane explanations or turn a blind eye. Echoing real life responses in small communities facing challenges like economic downturns or societal shifts.
Starlas personal journey is particularly poignant. Trapped in an unsatisfying marriage with Grant she ultimately battles against a version of her husband. Her struggle symbolizes breaking free from expectations placed on women in small town settings. By the conclusion of the movie she finds herself holding a gun and actively joining in the effort to rescue what remains of the town symbolizing a shift away from her passive stance.
Academic discussions about "Slither" often center on its position within the body horror genre and its exploration of themes related to consumption. As film expert Xavier Aldana Reyes highlights in his work "Body Gothic " body horror frequently functions as a representation of issues and cultural fears. In "Slither " the horrifying changes undergone by bodies mirror concerns about losing ones identity and the harmful effects of unbridled authority. Contemporary reviewers acknowledged the films aspects although they may not have always fully embraced them. Cynthia Fuchs from Common Sense Media observed that there are no role models in the movie underscoring how Gunn disrupts traditional hero narratives commonly seen in horror films. The absence of heroes and villains emphasizes that the towns challenges stem from deeper systemic issues rather, than individual wrongdoers.
Ultimately "Slither" suggests that at times only a drastic event can jolt a community out of its state of indifference. In the movie the survivors are the ones who managed to adapt and collaborate breaking down barriers that once separated them. The alien invasion acts as a yet impactful trigger for change in Wheelsy. "Slither" goes beyond mixing horror and comedy elements. It offers a satirical portrayal of small town America using body horror and alien invasion themes to shed light on issues, like stagnation, conformity and resistance to change in the real world. Despite not being a box office hit its dedicated fan base and Gunns subsequent success show how its satire continues to resonate and make an impact.
