Im gunna be real I prefer jokers backstory to not be known. I personally dont see the ace chemicals backstory as canon, nor do i see joker killing jason todd as canon (since.. people literally voted to kill a child instead of a literal murderer 😭 joker himself would find this ironic like what)
Idk i dont like how DC keeps trying to de-mystify joker, or make him rlly gritty and edgy (same with batman, bats is meant to be compassionate, not an asshole!!!) like wtf happened to jokers clown schtick, hes ripping his face off and its like. Why is that actually boring? The writers keep trying to one up each other in who can make joker do the “darkest” shit and its so predictable and boring. Where is the funny clown. The funny idiot smart genius clown weirdo villain. The guy who curates his appearance and crimes?
The creators themselves say there isn’t a definitive backstory, which i much rather prefer. idk why but the vat of chemicals story being seen as his origin story just doesnt sit right with me. I like a joker who deadass has to put on his makeup, or fuck it id rather not know why he has pale skin. I like the idea that hes as human as batman (i always thought it cool that they both dont use powers! Especially since batman is so adamant on preferring not to have powers anyway). Ppl say “oh but hes scarier if hes kinda inhuman or just a killer” or somn and its like, isnt it scarier that he is human? killers in the real world are human, and so is joker. U cant change that. even if joker himself loathes the idea that hes fallible. Isnt it scarier to think wow. That rlly hes as human as any of us and yet he does the things he does? That the range of humanity extends to cruelty?
“They've given many origins of the Joker, how he came to be. That doesn't seem to matter—just how he is now. I never intended to give a reason for his appearance. We discussed that and Bill [Finger] and I never wanted to change it at that time. I thought—and he agreed—that it takes away some of the essential mystery."
– Jerry Robinson, the Joker's creator

saw the Joker!Desmond idea & the tags about the LoA & a bunny emerged! so here u go for the bunnyvault: Desmond reborn as Talia Al Ghul's twin brother. it would be a little nightmarish with the Leader of Assassin Group Father (with extra crazy) in a death cult, but there would be room for funny bits. like Desmond just Judging Talia's taste in men. *gestures to ALL of Bruce's everything* WHY? R U into this man? doting on/teaching damian the Creed in secret. accidentally leading a schism in the League. * over 200 yrs & what have we actually accomplished "Dad"?* bullying his sorta brother in law. idk
The ask that inspired this one about Joker!Desmond AU which had these tags:
#ngl #the idea of desmond being the leader of the league of assassins #would be a fun idea #especially if we set this before cassandra runs away #so we can have a mentally unstable desmond #try to raise a socially awkward cassandra #it would be both funny #and also a bit tragic
So… Desmond went from one fucked up family to another fucked up family. XD
I think it could be debated on who is a worse father, Ra’s Al Ghul or William Miles lol.
Anyway, he would have a strained relationship with his family, not just with his new father. For one, he and Talia would have grown up being pitted against one another and their competition would be ‘nourished’ by their own father. Talia would probably respect him and care for him as her twin brother but loathe him as her rival because he was a prodigy in the eyes of the League.
Desmond, for his part, would try to be the nice brother (relying heavily on Ezio’s Bleed for help) but Talia can be quite a handful when she feels like it so there’s a bit of annoyed older brother vibe to how Desmond deal with Talia sometimes.
Which would be funnier if Desmond is actually the younger of the twins XD
Also, let’s not forget that the Lazarus Pit is used to ensure that they do get to live that long so… Desmond’s mental state post-Bleeding Effect? It definitely takes a hit every time he uses the Lazarus Pit.
The first time it happens, Desmond didn’t know the extent of the Lazarus’ Pit powers. He had grown up in an isolated ‘community’ (again) and in an unknown world (let’s say that Desmond’s world doesn’t have DC in it) so he just figured it’s one of those long honored tradition.
Then he emerged from the Lazarus Pit and… he sees Altaïr in the crowd of league members…
He doesn’t go to the pit regularly. Not as much as their father but…
He sees them… walking around, always near but too far at the same time.
Then an accident happened and Desmond was dunked into the Pit once more. He was too valuable to let die after all (and maybe… Ra’s Al Ghul did care for him in his own twisted way but, then again, so did William Miles).
When he emerges from the Lazarus Pit, he could hear them.
They talk to him now.
They support him, give him tips and suggestions…
They make him feel… warm.
A warmth that he rarely felt in this place. A warmth that he had only felt maybe once or twice from his father, more times with his twin but they would be so short they felt like they were already fleeting by the time Desmond felt it.
He knew then and there that the Lazarus Pit was dangerous.
Because he also knew… his body had grown stronger.
He had become more.
But the worst part? Desmond didn’t realize that he and the whispers he hears… they were being stripped of their moral compass little by little by the Lazarus Pit.
Desmond does his best not to go to the Pit. But, at the same time, he hears its call. He starts to wonder if the next time he goes to the Pit, he would be able to feel them. To touch them.
Then…
Bruce Wayne came to the League and asked to be trained.
He was… an interesting fellow, to say the least.
He could feel the sexual tension in the room whenever he and Talia were together.
And Desmond tried to keep his distance, more because Talia hates it when Desmond takes her ‘things’ even if Desmond didn’t intend to do it or didn’t even know they were her things from the very beginning.
None of that mattered.
But Bruce saw him.
And among the best of the Leagues, Bruce knew he was the one most challenging of all. His movements were erratic and random but they always strike true. It was like fighting multiple opponents at the same time, weaving in and out of different stances and fighting techniques like flowing water.
And Desmond was, by far, the most normal of the Leagues. As long as Bruce ignored how it always seem like Desmond is looking elsewhere as if someone who wasn’t there was talking to him or how he sometimes nods or makes noises that signify he was listening even though no one was speaking.
Then…
It all came crashing down.
Bruce became Batman and became a thorn in the side of the League.
And Gotham City becomes a beacon to the Leagues.
It’s not all bad though.
Desmond is more or less amicable to helping Batman if it interests him or benefits him in any way. Among the Leagues, he’s the one who Batman could trust the most. Batman knows Desmond has plans of his own for Gotham City and he has no qualms killing those he perceive as evil but Desmond could be reason with… to an extent.
Then… Jason Todd died…
Talia took his body and revived him in the Pit.
And Desmond watched as Jason tries to control himself as he stayed in the League. He was Talia’s though and Talia hates to share so…
He goes to him in secret. Only when they are alone and Desmond is sure Talia would not know of it later on. He tries to teach him how to channel his rage and that primal urge that seemed to come from being revived by the Pit. He teaches him the Creed and what it means to be an Assassin. Not one of the League’s assassin but an Assassin.
When Jason leaves the League, he bears a burn in his left ring finger and Desmond realized…
There was no need to continue to stay in the shadow, quietly and swiftly undermining the plans of the Leagues he didn’t agree with.
He just… needs to take matter on his own hands.
That’s when Desmond starts growing his own faction in the League itself. His moral compass skewered enough that he believes he can ‘fix’ the League and turn it into a real Assassin Brotherhood. He takes in Lady Shiva and his sister. Becomes Cassandra Cain’s guardian later on after the tragedy that pushes Cassandra Cain’s life was unraveled by Desmond himself.
Then Damien was born and Desmond couldn’t help himself. He sees himself a lot in Damien and he knows his sister enough to know she would fuck him up. He does not, however, realize that he wasn’t any better after all. He’s better in hiding it but… the Pit has affected him as well.
Damien would remember his kindness and would be the least inclined to go against Desmond even when he dons the cape of Robin and makes it his own. Desmond would always be the kind uncle who smiled at him and patted his head. The one who thought him how to kill men five times larger than him and how to care for eagles so they would be loyal to him. Desmond gave him a childhood that seemed both normal and strange. Damien would see how easy it was for Bruce Wayne and his family to care for him and feel a pang in his chest because that was the kind of love he felt from his uncle. And yet… his uncle stayed in the League and still continue to smile at him and tell him he’s doing well even when they’re on different side. Damien knows the League is wrong and that he’s doing the right thing but, at the same time… his uncle made him think that maybe… just maybe… No. Damien can’t think that. His father would be disappointed in him if he did.
Damien does not know that Bruce harbors the same ‘maybe’ in his mind. Every time he sees Desmond, he wonders if the League is beyond saving. But, unlike Damien, he does not hold Desmond with rose-tinted glasses. He knows how dangerous Desmond is.
So when Batman and his allies hear that a civil war has erupted in the League, one faction led by Desmond and another faction led by Ra’s… Batman can’t help but question if a League led by Desmond would be a good thing. A better alternative to Ra’s? For who? The League? The world? Himself?
Talia stays with their father, of course, she does. She does it not out of loyalty for their father but because she will always stand against her brother. That was how they were raised.
The Batfamily tries to stay away from all this. But some of them do tend to lean towards Desmond’s faction more. Mainly because Desmond is the ‘nice one’.
It would be Dick who reminds everyone that just because Desmond is nice to them doesn’t mean that they should lower their guard.
They must always remember.
Desmond… is an Assassin.
.
Unorganized Notes (this is gonna be short):
Red Hood would keep his connection to Desmond a secret. All Bruce knows is that Jason was with the League for a while but Bruce also knows that Talia thinks of Jason as hers because he’s Bruce’s and Bruce was hers.
Among the Batfamily, Red Hood and Robin would definitely be the ones to easily team up with Desmond’s Brotherhood.
Cassandra Cain doesn’t become Batgirl or Black Bat in this one (or, if you want her to be part of the Batfamily, not yet). She’s raised by Desmond and has a better childhood this time around although… okay, it’s a better childhood compared to canon but it’s still an Assassin childhood. She’s loyal to Desmond and sees him as her father figure. Although, she’d also grow close to the Batfamily as they team up some times.
Among the Batfamily, it would be Tim Drake who would be more willing to go along the more ‘violent’ plans that Desmond’s Brotherhood may do. Tim Drake is also the one who advocates that it’s better for Desmond to lead the League.
Dick is the one totally against it and some would say that he has no plank to stand on considering he became a Robin to get revenge but Dick is past that entire thing. He doesn’t support Ra’s faction as well and he’s more on the side of, whichever wins, the world would take the fall. The others (Babs, Stephanie, Kate and Duke) are on the fence about this and are waiting on what Batman would do.
Desmond is quite amicable to a few of Batman’s Rogue gallery. Poison Ivy is one of his staunch supporters as their end goal tend to align most of the time. Because of this, Harley Quin likes to call him their ‘bestie from another screwed up family’. She also knows that something is ‘wrong’ with Desmond but she doesn’t pry because ‘that’s not what friends do!’
Desmond likes to loudly say that Catwoman is a better match for Batman just to annoy Talia. He does not necessarily ship Batman with either his sister or anybody else because of Batman’s (gestures to ALL of Bruce’s everything) but annoying Talia is a favorite past time of his.
I absolutely did not include non-Batman characters because then I’d be writing this for far too long than I should but he hates Lexcorp. It reminds him too much of Abstergo XD

i want to request a scenario for gotham rogues your reactions to a new villain in town please i like it when you write scenario its funny😂
I went half serious and half comical for this 😅
Request
When you decided to be known, you really made an entrance for everyone, Batman and rogue to see. Yet you certainly didn't look like a villain infact you looked like a regular person walking down the street.
"You have killed people." Batman said. "No, they killed themselves." You said flatly. "Not once have I ever suggested suicide. I don't need to. They come up with that all on their own." "You ruin lives." Batman replied icily. "Everyone is guilty of that." You snapped. "Do you think these people thank you for adding to their sentences? Throwing them back in Arkham?" You were referring to the rogues. Batman stayed quiet even though he could have responded. Everyone knew that, even you. "Nothing you do right now will make any difference. My work is all around Gotham and those who lives there. I am everywhere but nowhere...like you. There are no jokes or riddles about that by the way, that's not my thing." "Then what exactly is it you do?" He asked crisply. "I'm a problem solver." You nodded with a light tone. "I make sure everyone places the game exactly as they should." "This is a game to you?" Batman sneered. "And it isn't to you?" You countered just as quickly. "So you meddle with people's lives until they have nothing left until they see no way out?" "Everyone dies, Batman." You said flatly. "The only evidence is circumstantial." He said quietly to himself. "And that is hardly enough for a court of law." You replied smoothly. "Keep in mind that even when you deal with this lot, I'm still here and every minute you aren't watching me, the more fun I can have and I have a lot of fun." You grinned. "Although I'm fairly certain that you're going to be a bit of a bother. You definitely do not want to have my attention, Batman." "Why? You'll kill me?" "Don't be ridiculous, sweetie. I am not killing anyone. You'll do it on your own. You're gonna back off because if you care about those around you, you will. Everyone has secrets." You reminded him. That was when your phone rang and sighed. "Sorry, do you kind if I take this?" You asked lightly but didn't really wait for a reply. "Go ahead." Batman gritted his teeth. "Hello?" You turned your back to him, the rogues noted this to be a very brave move but Batman did not move. "Yes, of course its me, what do you want?" You spun on your heel, smiling at the ground. "I knew you'd see it my way." You said sweetly. You covered your phone with your hand. "Gotta go." You said lightly."I'll see you soon, yeah?" You nodded to Batman. You didn't wait for an answer as you walked away. "If you keep our secret, it'll stay there. You know that's the deal."
The Riddler: uhm...hello? Still here y'know. Greatest foe of all time? He has no idea who this and loathes that you have Batman's unwavering attention. He might fixate on you determined to find out just who the hell you are. Then he'll want to knock you down to size, just who do you think you are?
Scarecrow: He notices how much attention Batman has on you. It was so quick that it made him wonder who you were and what, if any was the history there. He wouldn't have cared had he not noticed just how tense Batman had gotten. Perhaps a slither of fear.
Two Face: What in the hell is happening? Will they notice if he just leaves? Should he shoot them? Maybe we should just watch? He's at a total loss. Your methods give him...what do the youths of Gotham say again? Ah yes, it gives him the 'ick'.
Penguin: Well this is wonderful and all but if you two are gonna waste his time, he's just gonna take off. He can't tell if your stupid for turning your back not just to him but Batman too. You had no idea who you were dealing with.
Joker: He's secretly furious at how quickly you took Batman's attention from him. It's all fun and jokes until someone starts meddling and you are meddling. He doesn't like the attention Batman is giving you. It's all about the Batman and the Joker so just who exactly are you?

The Joker Tropes Part 2
Taken From Here and here
Nether Realm Studios especially seems to love making Joker out to be evil incarnate. In Injustice: Gods Among Us and its sequel, he loses all his cred (and life) once he nukes Metropolis; Harley ditches him entirely, Batman just completely gives up on indulging him any more, even Guest Fighters like Hellboy consider him worthless, and non-Batvillains such as Grodd and Brainiac and even Darkseid loathe him for either Metropolis, or just in general principle. Mortal Kombat 11 shows that even the MK cast see him as a scourge upon the realms, and also express distaste toward him for either his nuking, a previous outing, or because he's seen as a buffoon who cannot be taken seriously (this is usually the case for other villain characters).
About the only person who can tolerate him for long is Lex Luthor, only because they both have the same level of hatred for their respective enemies. Even then, Luthor prefers to keep his distance from the Joker, if only because a bored Joker screws with everything For the Evulz.
In the animated series, he claims to have been beaten as a child when interviewed by Harley Quinn. It is unknown if this is true. According to Batman, he's simply making it up.
In one issue of New 52, he claims to have been driven insane by an abusive grandmother, who also bleached his skin to its present pallor.
In the same continuity, he is one to a baby gorilla he adopts, trains up as a gun-wielding henchman, and ultimately gets killed off for laughs.
In the comic book adaptation of Injustice, it's implied Harley fears Joker would be one, and gives their daughter to her sister, lest he kill the child. It's left ambiguous whether the Joker's even aware of the ruse.
Averted in one story, wherein one of Arkham's doctors realizes Joker's faking insanity just to piss off Batman as revenge for his disfigurement. Another doctor finds the report and excitedly reveals it to the current head doctor, only to learn that  the Joker left it for everyone to read, since the paper's written by Harley Quinn, and therefore worthless as evidence.
In Batman: The Man Who Laughs, it's established that the name "The Joker" was given to him by the media, and he liked it so much that he decided to call himself that.
The same happens in Joker (2019), where Murray tells the audience to "look at this joker" when talking about Arthur. Arthur took it to heart.
Batman: Arkham Knight takes this even further by revealing that being forgotten is the only thing the Joker truly fears.
Just to demonstrate how much disregard he has for his henchmen, a reoccurring motivation for offing his own lackeys is failing to laugh at one of his jokes. Or laughing too late. Or laughing for too long. Or laughing at the wrong joke. He's... unpredictable.
The Joker loves it when people laugh with him, whether genuine or not, but if someone laughs at him, they're most likely already dead.
Joker loves attention and being above the normals, so never imply that he's not interesting or unique. Terry exploits this flaw in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker just to drive him to a Villainous Breakdown.
The Batman Who Laughs. Since the character's first appearance in Dark Nights: Metal, the mere mention of him is enough to put The Joker in an uncharacteristically un-jolly mood and is a good way to get on his bad side. In fact, the dislike of this twisted version of his archnemesis is so great, that when Lex Luthor and The Legion of Doom started cooperating with him against Joker's protests, he quit the legion (after non-lethally jokerizing every other member of it) in disgust.
If you're going to hurt Batman, do it right. One of the supplementary stories for Joker War had him beyond furious with Bane - to the point of promising him he'd kill him in a way he would never see coming - for showing so little imagination in killing Alfred in City of Bane without even letting Batman listen to it to torture him. By his reckoning, if you have a great gag to break the Bat, use it to break the Bat - don't blow it by having Robin be the only one to witness it.
Originally Conrad Veidt from The Man Who Laughs.
Later portrayals base themselves on his actors, with Cesar Romero a popular candidate, and after Jack Nicholson came in, artists such as Alex Ross base him on him, such as the actor's distinct widow's peak and slicked back hair.
During Knightfall he and Scarecrow killed several members of a SWAT team, and one of his last actions in Batman: No Man's Land was to kill Commissioner Gordon's second wife, Lt. Sarah Essen.
One of the alternate realities seen in Zero Hour! was one where he killed Commissioner Gordon instead of crippling Barbara.
Part of the reason Gordon takes over the post of Commissioner in both The Dark Knight Trilogy and Batman: Arkham Series is due to the Joker killing Gillian Loeb. Additionally, the first game in the latter series, Asylum, he sees several of Arkham's guards killed by him and his men.
He's holding a dead cop's corpse in his intro in Injustice: Gods Among Us and using it as a puppet. He also talks to the body of one of the Regime enforcers who captured him once he breaks out and heads to Gotham.
Whether he was driven insane or was already insane and became completely bonkers.
Where he is on the spectrum between "wacky prankster" and "utterly depraved and sadistic sociopath and murderer".
Whether he is a senseless, performative terrorist wreaking havoc for kicks or a deceptively cunning and competent criminal mastermind. Or both. Usually both.
He's no Batman, but sometimes he is a proficient hand-to-hand combatant, Knife Nut or marksman, and other times a flimsy wimp who goes down in one punch. In some of the grittier settings, his raw strength, numbness to pain and viciousness are enough to level the playing field with Batman.
Whether he actually loves Harley Quinn varies. In the animated series, (where Harley first appeared) the writers haveoutright said he's a sociopath incapable of loving anyone, and just sees her as a useful mook. Some other works imply he really does love her on some level (although he's usually still an abusive asshole.)
He can either be Faux Affably Evil, Laughably Evil, just a Monster Clown, or some combination of the three.
At least one such incident implied he would be interested in Batman... but only after he was dead. Again this may only have been a tactic to get under Batman's skin or truthful admission. The readers will never know for certain.
His plot in The Killing Joke is to put Jim Gordon through the wringer hard in the hopes of driving him mad. He'll also try to drive Batman over the edge (particularly, drive him to break his "no killing" rule), sometimes by cutting off all of Batsy's human connections.
The Dark Knight reworks it into Driving Gotham To Senseless Violence with wanton acts of destruction or terrorism, just to prove everyone's as bad as him deep down.
Ironically, a 1952 story has the Joker get himself falsely committed to an insane asylum, to question a patient who knew the location of a cache of money. The end of the story has him Laughing Mad due to a prank Batman used to disguise his identity.
He didn't have his signature laugh. This seems to have been a way to "goofy up" the character to make him less terrifying in the days of the Comics Code Authority. Later on, he'd learn to giggle while remaining terrifying.
He actually committed crimes for moneynote , and wasn't really interested in causing chaos or terror for a joke's sake.
Building off of that, his plans weren't really "insane" until the Silver Age (at which point it's not even fair to say this was exclusive to him), nor was there any question of the character's mental stability.
His obsession with Batman wasn't there, much less the idea that he would pass up chances to kill the Bat or learn his identity. This aspect was probably introduced to explain the Bond Villain Stupidity he (and every Batman villain) had become infamous for in the Silver Age.
His clown-like complexion was actually makeup in his early appearances. He even removed his makeup to disguise himself as a cop, which was referenced in The Dark Knight. It's later revealed that the look is permanent after falling in a vat of chemicals.
The Brave and the Bold #111 and #191 have him team up with Batman to clear his name after being framed for several murders. The first instance turned out to simply be a framing the guilty part occasion but the second instance was actually genuine on Joker's part (except the person Joker seemingly murdered turned out to be faking their death).
He also does this with Batman whenever The Batman Who Laughs is involved (specifically in the Dark Knights: Metal series).
He abruptly ends a partnership with Red Skull when his Nazi affiliation comes out. Red Skull simply wonders why he is so surprised when he thinks that the Joker would make a great Nazi. The Joker is NOT happy about this, proclaiming "I may be a criminal lunatic, but I'm an American criminal lunatic!" It even provides the trope's image. And yes, folks, even an equal-opportunity murderer like the Joker despises the Nazis!note
The exception is mentioned again in the Last Laugh arc where the Joker immediately refused to join the American Neo-Nazi Aryan Alliance group in the Slab after he was offered membership. Joker: I'm evil and all that, but you guys are just plain mean.
Will not harm dumb animals and doesn't condone it. There's no humor to be had in that. Higher primates apparently do not qualify but a lot more effort went into that one.
While in Arkham with villain Warren White, AKA the Great White Shark, Joker calls him the worst person he ever met. He states that while he may kill people, even he doesn't steal their kids' college funds.
Sees nothing funny about someone parking in a handicap spot when they're not handicapped. However, he does think it's hilarious to hurt them in ways that will make certain they'll always be able to park there.
A girl named Janey Bennett, whose class was studying criminal behavior, became pen pals with the Joker while he was in Arkham. When Janey revealed that her father, the mayor of Motor City, was abusing her (exactly how isn't specified, though it was implied to have been really bad) the Joker broke out and, convinced that the authorities would be of no help, tried to force the mayor into admitting to his crimes and giving him Janey (so that he could find a better home for her) by threatening to contaminate the city's blood supply, going through with it (because the ends justify the means) when the mayor refused to give in to his demands. He originally intended to give her to Batman as well so he could protect her but at the end decided to give her to her mom. Joker: I mean, stealing a city blind is something I can admire... but being mean to one's own daughter... that just makes my blood boil.
For a rather literal form of "standard", the Joker's team-up with Carnage in Spider-Man and Batman: Disordered Minds fell apart in part because the Joker, known for his love of theatrics, found Kasady's desire to get straight to killing boring. Conversely, Kasady didn't like the Joker's flair for theatrics.
The Joker absolutely loathes The Batman Who Laughs, to the point where he drops his usual joking demeanor and is deathly serious whenever directly referring to him, even willing to work together with Batman to face him when it comes down to it. When Lex Luthor goes behind his back to make a deal with The Batman Who Laughs (going against the only condition Joker has for joining his plan), Joker responds by Joker-gassing the Legion of Doom, putting Lex into a series of deathtraps, trashing Lex's Power Armor, and quitting the Legion. In the process, he tells Luthor how he had planned on ruining the Legion utterly on the verge of victory, and as nightmarish as his plan sounded, he claims it is nothing compared to what the Batman Who Laughs is going to do.
While he still gloated about it and found Commissioner Gordon kneecapping him funny after remember that he'd crippled Barbara, the actual act of killing Sarah Essen in the penultimate issue of Batman: No Man's Land is one of the few times the Joker wasn't happy with something he himself did, considering he's seen walking away while scowling afterward, leaves the babies he originally planned to murder unharmed and immediately turns himself in to the police.
Emperor Joker sees the Joker disgusted with a corrupted Jimmy O Lsen tormenting the Superfamily and Batman when they're turned int animals.
Later one he is disgusted when his minions vandalize the Moai on Eastern Island.
Again, when he rescues Lex from The Batman Who Laugh's infected minions in Hell Arisen, the mere mention of his alternate universe rival prompts him to have a very uncharacteristic Freak Out. The Joker: I told you. I told you not to deal with him. You should have shot that thing in the head the second you had it in a cage! It is wrong. It is a wrong thing.
Played more straight in his relationship with Punchline. Only time will tell if it lasts.
There’s also a comic storyline when Hush informed that a dirty cop Office Halmet killed his wife Jeannie. The Joker wanted nothing more than to kill said cop in revenge. Then there’s Batman: Three Jokers where, despite it being being heavily implied he was abusive, the “Comedian” Joker is seen setting up fake tea parties with dolls, clearly trying to substitute them for his wife and child showing that he does miss them and desire to be a family with them.
While The Dark Knight is one of the few times the Joker's clown-like appearance is the result of make-up, he does sport a Glasgow Grin.
While Joker still has the permanent clown look, it's combined with the Glasgow Grin.
While Batman: Endgame would see the skin of his face restored with a chemical called Dionesiumnote , at the start of The New 52, the Joker had the Dollmaker skin his face and then, after he recovered it, spent Death of the Family wearing it like a Leatherface-esque mask. And even in Endgame, his restored face ends up badly burned as the result of the finale battle between him and Batman, though it still ends up restored again.
Gotham sees neither Valeska escape this. After his death in season 2, Jerome (the proto-Joker) ends up resurrected in season 3, but because Dwight thinks his attempt to revive him failed, Dwight ends up cutting off Jerome's face ala Death of the Family and Jerome ends up stapling it on when he catches up with Dwight and while he later has it properly reattached, there's still scars from what happened. Jeremiah, Jerome's twin and the show's true Joker, ends up with the "perma-clown" appearance due to Jerome having the Scarecrow brew something up to spray in Jeremiah's face, but season 5 sees his fateful fall at Ace Chemicals badly scar his face and sear off most of his hair with only stringy patches left.
Averted entirely in Joker (2019), where his clown appearance is entirely makeup, and the worst it gets is painting his iconic smile on his face with his own blood from a car crash. Not even a Glasgow Grin or anything, the blood is from his hand and his face only has a few normal cuts on it.
While Batman is a rather serious character who refuses to kill anyone, The Joker is a rather comical character who revels in death.
Joker's gadgets tend to be rather goofier but much more lethal, such as the Joker Venom that he often uses to kill his victims.
While Batman gets along well with his sidekicks Robin and Batgirl, Joker frequently abuses his sidekick Harley Quinn and has tried to kill her before, not to mention all the times he has been a Bad Boss by killing his henchmen for any reason you can think of, sometimes for no reason at all.
While Batman's backstory is well known, even by the citizens of Gotham who know of the tragedy of the rich Waynes' in Crime Alley, no one knows anything about the Joker's backstory, but most versions he tells are consistent in two things: he was a nobody, and possibly someone poor.
In most adaptations, his voice is high-pitched in contrast to Batman's Badass Baritone.
Why he went by the name the Red Hood has changed over the years: The Killing Joke claims he was a failed comedian driven to crime to support his pregnant wife. The trauma of his disfigurement from jumping in the acid and his wife's earlier accidental death drove him insane. However, even this backstory is questionable, as the Joker himself calls it "multiple choice".
In Injustice 2, an intro with Atrocitus has the Red Lantern wondering what drove the Joker to nihilism.
In the animated series, he claims to have been abused as a child when interviewed by Harley, but according to Batman, it's just another ruse to escape Arkham.
The purple suit and matching pants with either an orange and/or green shirt with a bowtie or tie, remains the definitive Joker look one that many artists and costume designers have given spin on. He is sometimes known for wearing a cool hat but other times goes hatless. Heath Ledger's custom-designed purple long-coat, trousers, blue shirt and green Waistcoat of Style with a tie has likewise become iconic and famous for its contemporary and downright stylish update on the classic look.
The original Red Hood outfit which is a black suit, white shirt, bowtie with an opera cap and a bizarre red dome is also quite famous.
The Hawaiian tourist outfit he wore in the notorious scene in The Killing Joke.
The white suit he wears in Miller's The Dark Knight Returns as well as the white nurse maid outfit with red wig in The Dark Knight is also quite notable.
The Future Joker look from Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker which went with a mime look (black body suit, slicked-back hair) is also quite distinct and unique.
The first issue of Batman with Joker's debut has him described as having "burning, hate-filled eyes" and the moniker, "the harliquin of hate".
The Man Who Laughs had Bruce dosed with a light version of the Joker Venom and he felt his perspective shift into a paranoid vengeance were he felt everyone deserved to be punished for his parent's death just for existing.
Death of the Family had Batman describe how Joker's irises are always narrow when looking at anyone but Batman and that it is usually an indication of negative feelings toward something with Bruce mentioning that his eye are the eyes of someone who hates everything he sees.
In the Justice League storyline "Rock of Ages", Martian Manhunter has to put in incredible effort to reorganize Joker's mind long enough for him to give up the cataclysmic Philosopher's Stone. The briefly sane Joker immediately says My God, What Have I Done? verbatim as he hands it back, before quickly losing his mind and going back to the laughing madman.
The famous example from the end of The Killing Joke, where Batman tries to convince him to allow Batman to rehabilitate him before their vendetta kills them. Joker considers it for a long, somber moment before quietly reflecting that they're both too far gone.
Batman: Cacophony ends with Joker being pumped full of an inhuman amount of antipsychotic drugs to keep him under control while in recovery from a near-fatal stabbing. Batman takes the opportunity to have a relatively-sane conversation with him, though it's somewhat subverted by Joker still being a homicidal sociopath even while heavily sedated.
He even gives multiple reasons on how he came Back from the Dead in Injustice 2 and will go along with whatever his opponent thinks is true, despite being Dead All Along in story mode and only appearing as a hallucination to his ex-moll.
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns sees him kill David Endochrine and Ruth Weisenheimer, who were clearly based on David Letterman and Dr. Ruth Westheimer.
During Knightfall, once he realizes that Azrael isn't Batman, his plan's gone to hell, and one too many criticisms from Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert stand-ins, he kills the stand-ins.
In one of the issues for the The Batman tie-in comic, The Batman Strikes, he terrorizes a stand-in for Conan O'Brien. This becomes darkly Hilarious in Hindsight as the real O'Brien voiced Endochrine in the animated version of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. In the series proper, Harley's debut had the two of them terrorize a stand-in for Dr. Phil for the climax.
If you want to know how truly terrifying The Batman Who Laughs is, look no further than the way Joker acts whenever discussing him. He doesn't laugh, he doesn't smile. He becomes calm and serious and simply tells whomever he's talking to that the TBWL is "a wrong thing that shouldn't exist". Someone HAS to be scary if the very thought of him makes Joker act like a calm rational sane person.
In Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, the clown has a massive Villainous Breakdown when Terry mocks him for his failed attempts to break Batman.
On the rare occasion Joker gets bored and leaves Gotham, expect everyone to think of him as just a silly clown, until the bodies start piling up.
One issue of the Robin Series had him talking about having Abusive Parents, only for a psychiatrist to tell him it's the seventh story he's told now.
Batman lampshades on this to Harley in the animated series, thinking it's another lie to gain sympathy.
The Killing Joke claims he was a failed comedian driven to crime to support his pregnant wife. The trauma of his disfigurement and his wife's earlier accidental death drove him mad. However, even this could be a lie, as he himself calls it "multiple choice".
It's even discussed in Injustice 2, as Atrocitus wonders what drove the Joker to nihilism. Despite only appearing as a hallucination to Harley in story mode, he spews out multiple theories for his Unexplained Recovery and will say Sure, Let's Go with That in non-canon fights. Was he resurrected by someone, or is he from another universe? Did he escape from either the Source Wall or the Phantom Zone, or is he just an apparition?
Shadow of the Bat #38, Tears of a Clown: He celebrates his anniversary of the day he was a still sane, but hapless comedian, and was thrown out of an exclusive Stand-Up Comedy club for an unfunny act the patrons mercilessly heckled. It was the last straw as he agreed to provide to his family by pulling a job for the Red Hood gang. So he kidnaps all the patrons and reenacts his act with control collars that will kill them when they laugh. Oddly enough, the patrons are hardcore Stand-Up Comedy fans, so they can't remember the number of times they've booed someone. However, even this origin story could be a lie.
It's come to be his primary disfigurement over the original skin bleaching.
In Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, Terry McGinnis exploits this by delivering an epic Boring Insult so the clown will have a Villainous Breakdown.
King Barlowe proved to be a big one in his Thanatos Gambit in the episode "Joker's Millions" of The New Batman Adventures. In a spiteful Video Will, he gives the clown his millions, revealing in his tape that most of it was fake. Expecting the clown to splurge on it, he won't have enough to pay off the IRS, allowing Barlowe to get the "last laugh" after his death, without the Joker coming after him.
Alan Moore's "I go Loony" from The Killing Joke, an in-panel song-and-dance tune that was eventually made into an actual song belted out in Batman: The Killing Joke.
Batman: The Brave and the Bold has "Where's the Fun in That?" from the episode "Emperor Joker".
Batman: Arkham City ended with him covering The Platters' "Only You (and You Alone)", Batman: Arkham Origins had him cover Hank Williams' "Cold, Cold, Heart" and Batman: Arkham Knight had him provide an original composition, "Can't Stop Laughing".
Action Fashionista: This incarnation of the Joker has a wide variety of garish outfits for every occassion — most of them straight from the comics.
Adaptational Attractiveness: Metal teeth, lack of eyebrows, and tattoos aside, he's still being played by the youthful-looking real life Pretty Boy Jared Leto; especially since the last two cinematic Jokers were a creepy middle-aged gangster with a botched face-lift and a filthy, scarred vagrant (even the mentally unwell clown-for-hire doesn't scream Mr. Fanservice one bit). This version looks more like Marilyn Manson.
Adaptational Nice Guy: A very downplayed example. While he's otherwise the same Clown Prince of Crime we all know and love to hate, he appears to genuinely care for Harley, and even throws her out of a falling helicopter to save her life. Almost any other iteration of the Joker would do that to save his own skin or rid himself of her.
Adaptational Skimpiness: This version of the Joker tends to be shirtless a lot more than he has in any other medium. It mostly seems like an opportunity to show off his tattoos.
Adaptation Distillation: Leto's Joker seems to be less of the "evil philosopher" that Heath Ledger portrayed him as in The Dark Knight, and instead seems to be a cross between the garish, larger-than-life Mark Hamill version from the animated series and the Arkham games, and the creepy, deeply twisted Brian Azzarello version. David Ayer had also stated that he looked specifically to the Golden Age Joker for reference, providing reason for many to believe that Leto's Joker is a modern re-imagining of that incarnation.
Advertised Extra: Heavily featured in Suicide Squad promotional materials, barely appears in the film for more than seven minutes. According to Jared Leto, several of the scenes he shot were not included in the theatrical cut.
Ambiguous Disorder: In Suicide Squad, most of the time the Joker seems... not all there compared to Harley. In addition of psychopathic tendencies, the Joker has random bouts of maniacal laughter, confusion, and slurred speech-like patterns. All attributes that stem from punch-drunk syndrome. Considering he has faced Batman one too many times, it makes sense that the Joker's mental stability is finally catching up to him.
However, come Birds of Prey, they broke up, mirroring the comics where they do have an Relationship Revolving Door. It appears to stick, as Harley publicly calls it quits between the two of them.
His tattoos are very reminiscent of the Joker in All Star Batman and Robin.
Ax-Crazy: Like all the incarnations before him, calling him a violent psychopath is one of the biggest understatements you can make.
Bedlam House: Spent some time at Arkham Asylum, where he met Harley. Then he broke free from it with the help of both Harley and his gang.
Chewing the Scenery: An important part of the character is his theatricality.
Cool Car: A bright purple sports car with underglow lights and a "HAHAHA" license plate.
Dented Iron: It's subtle, but the numerous scars on his body and metal replacement teeth in his mouth are clear signs that his frequent run-ins with Batman are taking their toll.
Disney Death: He seemingly dies in the crash of his helicopter... only to come back to free Harley from her high security prison at the end of Suicide Squad.
The Dreaded: In true Joker fashion, everyone is terrified of him.
Establishing Character Moment: One that takes place before he even makes his official debut in the setting - he killed Robin (a minor) and vandalized his outfit to mock Batman over his inability to save him.
Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Insofar as much as the Joker can love anyone, anyway, but he does seem to genuinely care about Harley. Eventually, subverted.
Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: He considers the brutal murder of a minor as a joke he played on Batman. When he's torturing Harleen Quinzel, he promises not to shatter her well-kept teeth while flashing his own hideous metal dentures. When Harleen later has him at gunpoint, Joker just says "please don't kill me, I'll be ya friend" in a snarky tone.
Evil Is Hammy: It's not The Joker if he's not Chewing the Scenery. And, sure enough, he does.
Evil Is Petty: The graffiti on Robin's costume seems to imply that Joker murdered him just to prod at Batman. It is confirmed in Suicide Squad that Joker and Harley killed him.
Evil Laugh: It's kind of his thing. One notable example is when he chuckles while surrounded by an arsenal of weapons.
Fake Shemp: Indie rocker Johnny Goth stood in for Jared Leto in Birds of Prey, in the flashback where he and Harley torture and tattoo the big mafia thug Harley later bumps back into.
Foil: To Batman as usual, but with some new additions. After 20 years, Batman became more jaded and cruel, while the Joker somewhat mellowed out and his criminal activity became more professional. Batman didn't settle down until the death of Superman while the Joker grew attached to Harley Quinn.
In Suicide Squad Griggs' smug indifference about his gambling debt immediately becomes pure terror when he realizes the Joker has gotten involved.
He is so feared that even the likes of Black Mask would rather steer clear of him. Harley's enemies only start gunning for her in Birds of Prey when it's become clear that she's no longer with him.
   G-Y
The Ghost:
There is an allusion to him in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ("HA HA HA Joke's On You, Batman" painted across the chest of the dead Robin's empty suit in the Batcave), but he doesn't actually appear.
He gets mentioned a lot in Birds of Prey, but he's only seen very briefly in some flashbacks, always from the back (including footage from Suicide Squad). There is a whole Deleted Scene where he and Harley have a domestic dispute. Harley leaves the house through the window and the Joker throws her stuffed beaver out through the window. In the film proper, she's just kicked out of the house, with no shot of Mr. J.
Greater-Scope Villain: His role in Batman v Superman. Despite not actually appearing his murder of Robin by this point has driven Batman down a darker, more vengeful path that goes against Batman's traditional moral code; the one that the Joker is always trying to prove is wrong. Batman's rage towards Superman blinds him to the possibility of Lex Luthor being the real threat long enough for Superman to die fighting Doomsday. In a way the Joker's actions contributed to Batman's failure.
Guttural Growler: This Joker is noticeably more snarly than previous incarnations.
Handshake Refusal: He doesn't like to shake hands, as Monster T finds out.
Hell-Bent for Leather: Wears a purple crocodile skin duster at some point in the film.
Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Despite being a homicidal sociopath, he seems to truly love his girlfriend Harley Quinn. Then in Birds Of Prey, he coldly and violently breaks up with her.
Joker Immunity: He appears to die when his helicopter is shot down about halfway through Suicide Squad. To absolutely no one's surprise, he shows up alive and well in the final scene. It helps that he's the Trope Namer.
Knife Nut: And by God, does he have enough blades.◊
Lean and Mean: This Joker, while muscular, is quite lean, especially compared to the heavily muscled Batman.
Love Epiphany: Well, "love" is pushing it, but Joker realizes his affections for Harley when she dives in the chemical bath that ultimately turned Joker into what he is. Symbolic in the sense she was agreeing to join him in madness. Further adding to the complexity of the scene; Joker was tying up a loose end, having used Harley to escape from Arkham. He lead her to her demise and intended to leave her for death but at the same moment realized she had entered his world and his madness. Joker never anticipated the amount of utter devotion Harley would have for him, something inside him just couldn't walk away from her, so he jumped in to save her.
Manipulative Bastard: He manipulated Harley into helping him escape Arkham because she fell in love with him. When she served her purpose, he would have had her kill herself jumping into a bath of chemicals to prove her feelings. He instead saves her from this demise because he has a Love Epiphany in the moment.
Monster Clown: Like the previous film versions, Joker is an Ax-Crazy criminal with clownish makeup. Green hair notwithsanding, his white makeup, red lipstick and absence of facial scars make him look closer to a mime than his predecessors.
Noble Demon: In Suicide Squad, his whole motivation is to rescue Harley Quinn. His commitment is so strong he doesn't even waste time with pranks or petty acts of cruelty. Everything he does is for someone else.
Only Known By His Nickname: He's only known as The Joker, or "J" / "Mr. J".
Outlaw Couple: He and Harley Quinn are lovers and partners in crime.
Sadist: Even though there was only a few select scenes of him, one of them is him torturing Harley. It's disturbingly obvious that he is positively gleeful over it. And he doesn't seem to have lost any sleep over murdering Robin, either.
Pet the Dog: David Ayer confirms that while he did push Harley out of the falling helicopter, his intent was in fact to save her life.
Satellite Love Interest: To Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. His characterization revolves entirely around Harley, not even getting involved with the main plot.
Scary Teeth: Several of his teeth are made of metal. According to David Ayer, Batman punched his teeth out after he killed Robin, leading him to replace them with metal teeth.
Screw This, I'm Outta Here!: Although he has a presence at the start of the film, The Joker appears to have left Gotham City to be controlled by Black Mask in Birds of Prey, with Roman saying that Joker has already skipped town.
The Sociopath: He's chaotic and remorseless, much like his previous versions. Special mention goes to his murder of Robin, which he topped off by spray-painting a cruel taunt for Batman onto the boy's costume.
Tattooed Crook: His torso is covered in jester-themed tattoos. He also has a few on his arms and face.
Villain of Another Story: He mainly appeared in Suicide Squad, but his biggest act of villainy to date — killing Robin — happened some years before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in which he doesn't appear. The spray-painted message on Robin's empty suit ("Ah ah ah joke's on you Batman!") in the latter film can't be anything else than his doing.
Where Does He Get All Those Wonderful Toys?: Is seen with a rather impressive arsenal of guns and knives. And even says to warden Griggs, at some point, "I can't wait to show you my toys." note Notably, he manages to hijack the gunship which was sent to extract Waller and the squad so he can rescue Harley.
Would Hit a Girl: In the past, the Joker electroshocks and manipulates Dr. Harleen Quinzel into allowing her to fall into a vat of chemicals, in order to become Harley Quinn.
Would Hurt a Child: He killed Batman's sidekick, Robin, while the boy was an underage minor.
You Gotta Have Blue Hair: His hair is bright green.
   "Knightmare" Joker
"You won't kill me. I'm your best friend..." Appearances:
Zack Snyder's Justice League
"You need me. You... need me... to help you undo this world you created, by letting her die."
The Joker meets up once more with Batman in the nightmarish alternate future where Darkseid has conquered the Earth and Superman turned evil. But things aren't the same anymore between the two legendary foes.
See also the Knightmare page for more on that setting's characters.
Break Them by Talking: He deliberately tries to agitate Batman by reminding him of how many people have died on his watch.
Cop Killer: He wears a bulletproof vest with at least two dozens police badges on it. Whether these were good cops killed prior to the apocalypse or servants of the oppressive regime of Superman after the apocalypse is not detailed.
Costume Evolution: He has ditched his garish gangster suits for what looks like either a medical gown or a butcher gown, complete with orange gloves and a bulletproof vest with a dozen police badges pinned on it. He got rid of his "Damaged" forehead tattoo, let his hair grow and put red makeup around his mouth, looking closer to more common depictions of the character.
Enemy Mine: He and Batman had the worst kind of enmity imaginable, but the Earth being conquered by Darkseid is enough of a Conflict Killer for them to call a truce and work together to try undoing this mess.
Evil Has a Bad Sense of Humor: He utters the line "We live in a society" while gazing upon the devastated landscape in the trailer. This is clearly a Meme Acknowledgement, and it's quite awkwardly used given the context (is there really any society left in this post-apocalyptic world?). It doesn't appear in the actual film, however. The line was improvised by Leto.
Evil Laugh: Even with the world being in such a sorry state and him still being sane enough to acknowledge how bad the situation is, he'll still let some laughs out, even though they sound more subdued than ever.
Evil Versus Oblivion: Even he sees the necessity of teaming up with Batman to try undoing what Darkseid did to Earth.
Future Badass: He survived the apocalypse brought upon Earth by Darkseid and looks like he's geared for guerilla actions.
My Card: He gives a Joker card to Batman as a symbol of their truce. Shall the Dark Knight want to break that truce, he'd just have to tear that card up. The card could be seen strapped on Batman's assault rifle in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Nice Job Breaking It, Hero!: Joker gets a high reminding Batman how costly his mistakes in the past have been.
The Nicknamer: He nicknames Mera "my little fish stick" and Robin "Boy Wonder".
Progressively Prettier: Despite being worse for wear, this Joker is arguably even better looking than his previous appearance, with his over-the-top tattooed gangster image toned down and his androgyny played up. Ironically, this version also more closely resembles the Heath Ledger incarnation.
Thousand-Yard Stare: He has such a stare when looking at the devastated horizon as he starts talking to Batman.
Villain Has a Point: While he’s the one who killed Robin, he gives Batman a minor What the Hell, Hero? for sending “a Boy Wonder to do a man’s job.”
Vocal Evolution: His voice is much softer and higher pitched than it was in Suicide Squad.

//Hullo hullo everyone, just flying in here with an update & I apologise for taking so long about it.
So its been a tough time for everyone with C-19. Ireland is going into another lock down. I hope yall are taking care & regardless of your opinion on the matter, I hope yall are being respectful & safe.
Life has been abit topsy-turvy for me. Im learning that grief is just a series of moments where, when you least expect it, you spontaneously combust with tears. Ive had good days but a lot of days where it do be just hanging on by your nails & wondering when the rabbithole ends. So basically I'm at a point where I really don't know how I'm going to feel the next hour, the next day... yanno. I've had moments where I feel ready to return here & do something small but that feeling always changes to the opposite; I'm being careful with discerning what is a manic whim & what is real. I think that's a very important skill for anyone in this position or with mental health issues to learn, so im learning something new this past while.
I have not been able to write anything or draw for months now. Its very frustrating & depressing in itself as I am a creative person & often feel smothered when unable to create. I just have no energy or ideas & am very resentful of myself for feeling things that disrupt my hobbies. But I know i need to feel & go through this so am not pressuring myself. I'm focusing on keeping myself clean & fed & practicing good sleep hygiene; once I can master these three fundamentals, I can focus on other things.
Its funny, I think, that life experiences can alter you so much that you forget how to be human in that you find yourself forgetting to eat & unable to perform daily self-care routines & unable to show love towards those you know you love dearly. To sum it up, I think its fair to say this is the lowest point of my life & its been both horrible & eye-opening. I feel like a burn victim, without skin, everything hurting & tiresome & feeling seperate from myself & my former life. In that same perverse way, that part of me is abit thankful for c-19 because it means I don't have people coming close to me & hugging me & generally being sympathetic: I find im loathing that behaviour now. I don't want to be the person whom suffered a great loss that everyone needs to comfort, I just want to be a person that people treat like normal.
I opened the door the other day to a Traveller woman trying to sell me bedsheets & she said "ah take that, it'd be a grand present for your ma" to which I said, "my ma's dead". It was easier to say than I thought it would be & it was actually a relief to say it & receive a fumbling apology, "I'm sorry, my ma's dead too." I appreciated that more than receiving a hug or a pat on the back. Not that a stranger would do such things, but yanno. We had a moment like saluting each other & I bought pillows off her, the end.
I hope I'm making sense. I hope no one takes offence to this. This is just my feelings, my journey. I've been calling myself a child of grief, making this journey to a port in a storm where i can start a new life on that port & begin anew once I've shed this old skin thats dried out from salty tears.
I've been playing TS4. I started the Asylum Challenge on medium difficulty. I have Joker there ofc with 6 others. I did have 8 Sims but Jared Leto died in the pool (he went for a swim instead of sleeping ffs). We've had 1 Asylum baby that was adopted away for obvious reasons. Currently Enoby Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way is trying to get with Rob Zombie's creepy twin, Bob Zombie. Joker is hitting it off with my Sim whose aesthetic is inspired by Emilie Autumn. I called her Kathryn Wheel cuz of the torture device/HIM song.
I got two rat kittens for Valentines Day (not sure if I've told you before). They're Fancy Rats but with blue colouring, which I've never seen before in breeds. I called them MizPah & BoBoBetty. The Precious got a new snake, a BEL he calls Helvita but i call her Boo.
I got my hands tattooed a wee while ago which wasn't as painful as my neck but painful enough that I'm relieved theyre done & healed up. I'll try remember to post pics whenever. My memorys been a bit scatty with meds. Im also working on losing weight again so I've been very tired & grumpy when I'm not huddling in a nest of blankets growling at The Precious when he enters my space. The only way he earns my trust each eve is to give me coffee & tell me im being very good. Is this a joke? YOU be the judge...
Anyway. Im alive & still working on myself. I thank yall for your patience & support, it means a lot to me knowing my friends on here are rooting for me. I'm toasting yall rn with my iced coffee (still trying to perfect the recipe but im getting there). I hope yall are doing well & are happy, safe, & healthy. Remember I love yall & wish you all the very best, even if I'm not present or feeling sociable. We'll all get through this, i promise you. Remember that you only really see light when things are very dark 💜

Heathens - Soulless Reader x Demon Dean (Short Series)
A/N: Part two! As always, feedback is incredible. And, I hope you all enjoy <3
PSA: I am NOT a minor friendly blog. If you are below 18, please come back when you’re older. I don’t want to lose my blog because you were too eager to grow up. If I discover you, I WILL block.
Part One
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Warnings: Harley/Joker kinda relationship. Unhealthy. Power driven. Smut.
Word Count: Roughly 2,200
“Moose!” His voice was all cheer and glee as he stared up at the towering, still human brother. Trying to ignore the demon-killing knife in the too strong hand. The deep, loathing scowl etched onto the human's face as he stared down the monarch.
Crowley had finally given up. He had no one else to turn to. There were no other beings that stood a chance at getting near the power couple. The two creatures he'd helped shape were raising literal hell on earth. It was time for desperate measures.
“Where is he?” Sam demanded thickly. Booming in rage. Not bothering with any sort of pleasantries. After all, Crowley had his brother for all he knew.
“Ah, yes. Dean-o.” The King's lips pulled back into a scowl. It was time to get to business. Before too much more damage could ensue. “For once, we want the same thing. Squirrel back to himself.” The younger Winchester's eyes narrowed in the low sunlight as he took in Crowley skeptically. “As we both know, your brother is a... changed man. And not for the better.”
“Funny,” Sam snorted. Face twitching as he refrained from colliding into the demon and ending it all. “Last I checked, you were parading him around like some kind of prize. What brought on the change of heart?” Ordinarily, Crowley enjoyed the Winchester sass. But, not then. His eyes rolled instinctively.
“Your brother has this annoying tendency to do as he pleases. I can't control him. I've tried.” The demon shrugged, not even slightly remorseful in his actions. “I might have had better luck if he hadn't run into Y/N-”
“Y/N? Y/N L/N? She's with Dean?” Crowley watched as stark fear crossed the giant's face. “Has he hurt her? God, she has to be terrified-”
“Unlikely.” The king of hell snorted. Too sore from his latest failure to use the hunter's terror for leverage. “The only thing that girl feels is hunger for power.” Bitterness welled inside of him at the thought. You'd not only destroyed his plans for Dean, but the ones he'd had for you as well. In a single swoop. Only needing to bat your eyes to get what you pleased from the knight of hell. Your soul was the only leverage Crowley had against you two, and your only interest was in its destruction. “If I were you? I'd fear more for Dean.”
Realization crossed Sam's face, “You did something to her.” And the anger followed, nostrils flared and all. “I swear to god-”
“No,” Crowley held up his finger as he corrected the hunter. “I only ordered her to be collected as part of a contract that one of my demons created. Simply business. Nothing personal.” The look on Sam's face made it clear. He didn't believe a word the demon was saying. Smart man. “The chit made it damned difficult. Killed my favorite hound. So, I sent demons.” He kept the story simple. Not going into detail about the way you'd fought your life. He didn't need the moose endearing to you anymore than he already was. “They pulled away her soul believing it would stun her enough to destroy her body. But, that's as far as they got.” A vial was pulled out of his jacket, containing the silver blue light that had been torn from your very being. “Turns out your little pet can be quite brutal when she wants to be. And that damned knife you gave her ended up being quite effective. Now? Now we have a soulless maniac on the loose who not only wants to rule the world. But doesn't give a damn who she has to kill to get it. And I'm sure your brother is going to end up on that list if he doesn't follow her orders.” The look on Sam's face said enough. “Don't say it. I know what you're thinking. But, the soulless chit is the problem of the moment. For the both of us!”
“Why not just let it go? Let it find it's way back? If she's not soulless, then-”
“Then, Dean will remove it himself without time counting against him. We'll have nothing to make them pause long enough to gather some control back. They'll be lost.” The King's face fell, just as his reign would if you two continued to skillfully wield your weapons.
You'd already put a large dent into his army. Had weaseled out information- according to the few survivors that crossed your paths- that could give you an advantage. Letting them live only to let Crowley know just how successful you'd been. To toy with his mind.
Harley Quinn and The Joker. Bonnie and Clyde. Or any other powerful duo that could be thought of. None of them compared to the twisted, effective, relationship that you two had. When you weren't covered in blood, you were covered with each other.
“Just when I thought this couldn't get any crazier.” Sam snorted, a bitter half laugh leaving his lips as his hand ran over his stubbled jaw. “Of course it turns into this.” The resignation on his face gave the king some hope.
“Welcome to the party, Moose.”  Crowley smirked, though he felt nothing more than vulnerable. You two were too close. There wasn't much time. He would be dead as soon as you two arrived in town, and he was powerless to stop it on his own.
“Harder,” You moaned out in pleasure as his hands bruised into your hips. Your nails digging into the rolling muscles of Dean's shoulder and back as you rode him. Breaking the skin along the way. Not giving a damn that he grunted at the feeling. Your eyes were shut. Head tossed back as you zeroed in on the way he filled you. Yet,  you could feel the warmth of those blackened orbs watching you as you straddled his lap. His grip moving your body along his solid length.
“Alright,” His lips kicked up arrogantly. Instead of just following your orders, you were flipped so that he was on top of you on the wrecked bed. Your empty E/C eyes were darkened with lust when you opened them. The large fists clenched into your thigh and arm hard enough to rebruise the damaged flesh. He slammed his hips faster, giving you exactly what you demanded and then some.
His teeth sank into the soft skin of your throat; drawing both a cry from your lips and pebbles of blood forward that he easily licked away as he thrust sharply. Leaving another mark on your skin with a growl as your claws sank into him deeper. Body clenching hard around his dick. The hot, slick tug of your body trying to hold him hostage. Taking what you needed from him greedily. He left one hand on your hip as he pulled away. Moving to gain more control. The other gripped the wooden frame. Giving him better leverage. The wooden headboard slammed into the wall roughly. Motel room pictures rattled. Other patrons yelled out their complaints. Drown out by the cries leaving your throat.
At one time, sex between you two had been slow and meaningful. There had been lingering kisses, touches, and emotion behind every action. Cuddles afterwards. Conversation about the future. Dissections of your feelings. It had been everything a girl could dream of before it had ended.
But now? You two used each other. It wasn't about getting closer. Simply about getting off. Sex was just another tool in the power struggle you were looked in. Used as a tool for manipulating the other. Abrasive and filthy every time. Primal in nature, much like the both of you.
You both were covered with lesions; branding each other as the other's property. Possessive? Simply because you needed the other to get where you wanted. Thrived off of how much control you could garner with the right look. A simple touch. There was nothing else to it. No love. Not an ounce of fluff to be found. And you two thrived in the mucked up relationship.
“That's it.” His low voice vibrated shock waves through your system as he coaxed you through your orgasm; watching as you fell apart around him. Hips rolling. Mouth open as the delicious sounds poured out of your lips. “Fuck, Y/N...”
Writhing erratically, he tried to get impossibly closer; losing himself inside of the tight hold. Your eyesight focused in time to see his flushed face contort in pleasure. In the past you would have thought he was beautiful. Would have gotten lost in his pleasure. Instead, you focused on the feeling him getting off gave you.
How he stretched you just right when he stopped moving. The warmth of his seed coating your walls. All of it giving you a final bit of a buzz.
“You didn't win,” You huffed, face grim in determination as you came down from one of the only highs you could still reach.
“Your plan is beyond crazy.” He grumbled, rolling off of you. Displeased that the sex hadn't ended the conversation. After all? That had been the point.
“Which is why it would work.” You insisted again, moving to rest yourself over him. The position giving you better access to his gaze. Eyes that were back to the darkened green. That showed the bit of humanity you'd discovered under the surface of 'Deanmon'. “You know he's gunning on Sam wanting to get us back to the emotionally wrecked shithole we were in before.” If you could've felt fear, he'd have said that's what crossed your face. Instead, desperation was a better fit. All wide eyed and tight lipped. “He wants your brother to stop us. He's scared, Dean. All we have to do is get ahold of him- and his bones- and the rest falls into place. Crowley knows that. But, we won't get there before Sam does whatever his part is in the counter plan.” Your fingers trailed through the short, sex mused locks on his head as your voice softened back into that deadly, convincing tone. “So... we have no choice. We have to put you in Sam's grasp. Have to take care of him. Or, everything we've done is for nothing.” He looked unsure, but he nodded grimly. “I know you have a soft spot for him-”
“I don't.” Dean bit out, his demon side taking completely over at the words. Green blackened. Exactly what you needed.
“But, there's a tiny piece of you that does.” Your voice lowered into the manipulative little timbre he'd come to expect when you set your mind to something. His hackles rose. “It's the same part that Crowley wanted to kill. The same part of you that felt the need to keep me alive.” Softly, you added another twist to the knife. “I'm glad that piece of you exists...Really.” Your hand slowly moved down his sweat coated skin, until you reached the warm mark on his forearm. “But, I- we need you to push past it. If my soul comes back? I'll forget all of this. I'll turn against you. We'll lose everything we've gained.” You traced the reddened flesh. Eyes locked wishfully onto the mark. Begging for it, silently. The power it held. “Even if you can rip it back out? We 'll be too far gone. They'll have the upper hand...we can't afford that kinda set back.” Your vacant eyes met his again in a way that made his skin prickle. “You said you didn't want to lose your demon side... I get that. And you won't. Not completely. I have every detail planned out. You just have to trust me, Dean.” Your lips pressed against the anti-possesion symbol that had been etched onto his chest. The similar mark you bore on your hip. As if it meant something to the two of you. Despite both of you knowing better. “Trust us.”
He had little doubt that you'd planned out every possible scenario. Your lack of humanity made it alarmingly easy to spot weakness in anything that had even the slightest bit remaining. To see where they would go. See how to cut past it effectively. Even in himself.
He'd witnessed the skill countless times over the coarse of three months. Against demons, witches, and humans. If anything got in the way of something you desired? You cut it down without blinking. His brother was simply next on the list.
“Fine,” He nodded. You were right. He didn't want to go back to the feeling. To the wretchedness his life had held before he'd gone dark. That much, he was certain on.. “We do this. We've come this far...” Your lips lifted in a sinister grin, making him almost regret agreeing to it right then and there.

Full Metal Jacket (1987)
“You’re so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece!”
Tumblr media
‘Full Metal Jacket’ is along with 'The Shining' the only Stanley Kubrick film I've seen (definitely planning to watch more), and I liked it as much as 'The Shining', although "like" is a weird term in this case I suppose.
I don't really like or love either, both films aren't exactly a pleasant experience, but I admire the unease and discomfort that they cause in me. A film that causes strong emotions, unless it's disgust at the film's politics and underlying message, is almost always proof of good cinema.
Even never having seen it, ‘Full Metal Jacket’ has been inescapable for years, it’s one of those iconic films that a lot of people know at least one quote from, for me it was "you're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece" (my new favorite film insult I think).
Completely randomly coming across it on Netflix I decided to scrap this one of my "films I have to see one day list", and I was definitely in for a surprise. Netflix described it to me as grim drama, which really is 100% fitting.
However from the internet, one would almost wrongly categorize it as a comedy, because people are always posting the funniest parts, the insults from the drill instructor at the beginning, are so colorful and obscene that they become hilarious. But there's not much to laugh about later on...
Lee Emery was a real drill instructor for the American army, and essentially plays an exaggerated version of himself. His role has become iconic and his lines famous.
These initial scenes have a very dark humor, reflecting and foreshadowing almost just how dark, and visceral and horrific the rest of the film is about to become.
War films and military films are definitely not my favorite genre, I wouldn't really trust anyone that does. I loathe war and all that it represents and says us about as human beings.
However, as someone that loves learning about history, I'm really interested in them from a historical and psychological point of view.
I have a problem with one particular kind of war film, those that glorify war and celebrate the violence and blood spilling if they feel like a political manifesto and celebration of war, I'm out.
But I do have an endless respect for films in the genre that dare to not focus on the fireworks of the special effects, and how bombastic it all is, but instead, dare to turn the camera towards its human subjects and sketch a portrait of what happens to people in a war, all people regardless of the side they're fighting on.
Films that dare to explore the psychological effects of it, trauma and or dehumanization.
And in that regard 'Full Metal Jacket' is a dream. There are people that say that its first part, the one at the training camp is the most powerful (filmed where I'm from, in Belgium) and maybe it is the most powerful in terms of drama and development of the characters. But in my opinion part two definitely can't be considered weak.
That part of the film is extremely powerful in sketching, the sheer horror of war, some shots are so visceral that they definitely stay burned in your retina for a while after.
In terms of visuals and sound effects, for me, it was the strongest part. I found some scenes so horrific, that I actually felt an almost physical disgust. It's the part that accomplishes a pure assault on the sense.
And it's really not a far stretch of the imagination, to compare the buildup of a scene in this part of the film, to that of one in a horror film. The use of unsettling and foreboding music, paired in some scenes, with an unclear field of vision, worked wonders for me.
It was pure almost unbearable suspense for me, and I remember thinking something like "oh no, something is going to happen, I don't know what but I won't like it". Very few films have that effect on me, of wanting to look at and at the same time wanting to look more than anything in the world.
Nowadays that kind of suspense isn’t really considered innovative anymore, every horror film has done it. But here I found it to be utter perfection. It’s a cinematic definition of what war is: a complete and utter nightmare, and one of the most debasing human activities.
There’s a tendency to separate part one and two and look at them as two different parts. And while that approach makes sense because they take place in different locations and in one part they are preparing for combat whilst in the other, they are in combat. But part one very much feeds into part two.
Kubrick made the film after reading the novel ‘The Short Timers’ by Gustav Hasford, about the training and the service, of a group of anonymous marines, of which the most important one goes by the nickname Joker. The film, like I, imagine the book does, gives a shart picture of the training of the soldiers as a process of dehumanization.
A constant returning point in Kubrick's work seems to be the relation between humans and machines, or humans as machines, here perfect killing machines.
Even 'The Shining' has that, Jack Nicholson's character has certain roles: husband, father and one by one he begins to reject them until only madness and killing instinct is left.
And we see that same thing in 'Full Metal Jacket', the men come in as different men, each with their own personality, and most importantly each with an own name.
But the first thing that has to go in the army is individuality: you shouldn't be too smart, too funny and certainly not too questioning of authority. It's the first thing their general literally shouts and stomps out of them, any defining character traits. To him, they're all the same, "all equally worthless".
In the first few minutes of the film, their hair is shaven off, and the general gives each of them a nickname, often based on characteristics of the person that he has a strong dislike for.
And it works too, we never really know any full names of any of the soldiers. There's a scene in the film in which the soldiers march with their guns and chant: "This is my rifle! This is my gun! "This is for fighting!|This is for fun! "This is my rifle! This is my gun! "This is for fighting!|This is for fun!", the link between sex and violence and humans and machines is one so evident that I don't think I have to point out.
And it returns later, the men are reduced to the most basic of human conditions, killing to survive, and sex, even fighting over who gets to sleep with a Vietnamese prostitute first, all the while with complete disregard of the woman as a human being.
The first half of the film is so emotionally powerful, because we witness how people are brought down completely to the ground, and then build up again, to become what someone else wants them to be. You take everything away from someone and replace it with bloodlust. It really is fantastic as well as harrowing cinema.
One of the soldiers brilliantly played by Vincent D'onofrio is actually overweight and can't handle the heavy physical demands. And slowly starts losing his mind under the constant humiliations, of drill instructor Hartman.
At one moment we see him assembling his gun (that he named Charlene) and with an almost erotic pleasure, he lets the gun parts slide into each other, whilst talking to it.
It shows that different people react differently to authority, some people are scared of it and obey out of fear, while others have no problem obeying it and embrace the role they're being thrown into (with questionable pleasure in the case of some).
Some hate it and rebel against in instinctively, and some people simply can't handle being in a situation with lack of individuality and personal freedom and lose their minds.
Nowadays if someone wants to join their country's army that’s mostly their choice, in a lot of countries military service isn’t mandatory. But this was at a time when you had to go and were subsequently forced to kill, whether you liked it or not.
The film's most important strength is that it's all filmed with a contained simplicity, no bombastic, instead, it focuses on the actors, who all deliver fantastic work.
Matthew Modine is the stand-in for the audience. An Intelligent young man that despite everything, will end up losing his humanity. What else could happen under the circumstances? He's the most complex character in the film. He wears "born to kill" on his helmet and wears a peace button at the same time, something to do with the duality of man.
At the end when a female sniper of the Vietcong is found and initially not fatally shot, he looks down at the dying, suffering woman, who is literally begging the soldiers to end her life, and he can't find one bit of compassion. It took longer, but he too became a machine.
The scene disgusted me. But when you really think about it, you can't blame him. If a person is told time after time, that the only thing that matters is to kill or be killed, no matter how against your nature and spirit is, and fight it, in the end, a person starts believing what's repeated to them time and time again.
Interesting enough, this scene shows how horrible the situation is for both the female sniper as well as the soldier. When she sees the American soldier,t the first expression on her face is surprise and fear.
Then when she fires it's with what seems almost determined hate, but really it's survival instinct, a will to be the one to kill the other first. Both want to live equally badly.
When the soldier sees her determination, the look on his face is fear, just like she experienced when she first saw him. Ultimately while one is "the enemy" the film really doesn't put emphasis on this. We see them both as human beings, essentially experiencing the same primal emotions, only difference, their nationality.
You could almost say that the splits of Modine's character, peace activist as well as the killer, predominates the film.
A not so thin metaphor, for the human desire for tranquility, peace, and quiet, most people I know hate war and find it a terrible thing, this is common on an individual level. But as a group, not waging war is something that seems hardwired, and something impossible to erase from our nature.
Kubrick avoids the traditional connotations of the Vietnam war with the jungle and chooses an urban environment, a city in ruins.
The effect of this is that we see the violence represented against a background, that's easier to grasp for a western public, an almost indistinguishable enemy in a jungle, that most of us will never see, is easier to take emotional distance from. But the city is a place, most of us have a connection with.
Individual scenes also work excellently. A TV crew comes to interview the soldiers and we hear meaningful quotes such as: "I have always wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture - and then kill them."
And then, of course, there is the final scene, After the massacre, after the violence, the soldiers withdraw when the night falls on the destroyed city and they sing the theme song of the 'Mickey Mouse Club'. It’ sad, and so absurd it’s almost obscene. Something to do with the duality of man, undoubtedly.
'Full Metal Jacket' is an incredibly strong film, Vincent D'Onofrio's look at himsef at the end of part one is in itself sufficient reason to give it a watch.

“I wanted to see exotic Vietnam……the jewel of Southeast Asia. I wanted to meet… interesting people of an ancient culture and kill them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill.”

Tired [Part:1(?)]
Pairing: Jerome Valeska/Joker x Reader.
Possible pairing soon: Jerome Valeska x Reader x Peter Parker.
AU included: DC/MARVEL.
Prompt: You had enough with Jerome as he keeps seducing other girls in front of you so you plan to leave him and go to New York. Where you will find yourself stuck in the web of another bug who will fall in love with you.
THERE WILL BE PART 2 IF ENOUGH PEOPLE WOULD LIKE THIS STORY IDEA :) I HAVEN’T WATCHED THE WHOLE GOTHAM SERIES YET SO I MADE FEW CHANGES FOR THE READER TO FIT IN.
Part [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
You couldn’t believe it, just he has made an oath that he wouldn’t flirt with other girls again he was in awe at the new member of the Asylum, Harleen Quinzel. You were having a conversation to Barbara when you heard the obnoxious laugh of the duo; they look like they’re having a blast.
“Oh, puddin’… You’re so funny!” Harley gave Jerome a love-struck smile.
“Why thank you my dear Harley.”
And that’s the cue where you felt empty inside. Barbara was giving you comforting words but you blacken out in your mentality zone. How could he? That’s when you snickered suddenly it made Barbara jumbled. “I’m so dumb…” you stared at the ceiling, trying not to weep and make the stream of tears flow down. “I thought he could love me, I just noticed that I knew so many things about him but not a single thing he made an effort to know about me. I’m just another toy to him, another slave…” you stared at Barbara, rubbing your eyes and tried to hide all the evidence of wretchedness lingering.
“Barbara, if I get out of this hell hole. I would like you to know that… You’ve been a great friend and all. I want to be sane again…” smiling at her, Barbara looked at you bewildered.
She sighed, “Well if that’s what you want, but what about Jerome?”
“My ex? Well let’s just say I finally found out that I loathe him and wouldn’t like to see him again.”
Then there came the new inmate after few, he introduced himself rather dramatically and after the event, the gas incident happened. The eight including you— inmates managed to escape but then was held as captive by Theo Galavan who made an offer. You were about to refuse but one of the inmates, Sionis declined and was slaughtered by Tabitha. You figured out that it was best to shut up even though Harley keeps cackling now and then.
“Are you sure about this?” The boys were up and you and Barbara were undercover in an alleyway. Barbara gave a bag, which was filled of robbed necessities and some change for the bus. You slipped up the back to your shoulder and nodded before smiling at her and giving her a hug. “I’m going to miss you…”
“Me too.”
“Alright go on now (Y/N), I’ll take care of the group,” she said, you covered your face with the hood of your jacket and gone to the other direction and followed the citizens and managed to blend in.
As you moved on you looked at the structure where Jerome and the others are on.
“This is a choice, (Y/N). Think about it.”
The advice of Barbara made you doublethink. You saw Jerome examining the crowd you were in; he stared at swarm like a hawk stalking its prey. Then his gaze landed on you swiftly, which made you swallow your saliva for a moment. Thankfully he then continued on to gaze at the other civilians. He didn’t notice you, luckily. Just then Harley was included at the act and embraced Jerome from behind and managed to kiss him passionately which he in return, kissed back.
You smiled with a hint of sorrow, he looks so happy. The gaze you want to him to look at you for so long was now staring back at Harley. You didn’t notice that the tears are falling and your body started to move by on its own. Going away, finally moving on. You grabbed the portrait that was in your pocket, a picture where you and Jerome where fourteen. Happy faces and the stare that he looks at you was known to be “Love”, but now it was for another girl.
You waited at a bus stop far away from the incident. There was a bus waiting with other passengers going in. You torn the picture into two, smiling and is proud to yourself and run towards the bus with a grinning face. Welcoming a new life.
“Hey gorgeous!” Jerome smirked at Barbara’s scowling face; he waved at her while his other hand was held by Harley who was skipping joyfully. The inmates behind him. He looked around the location they were in, not seeming to find his girlfriend anywhere.
“Where’s (Y/N)?” he inquire while eyeing around and was even opening the garbage beside Barbara if she was in there jokingly. “Seriously Jerome?” Barbara rolled her eyes and Jerome chuckled. “Seriously, where is she?”
Barbara sighed, making Jerome raise an eyebrow.
“She is gone.”
The psychopath looked stunned but in a matter of seconds picked himself up and giggled. He was puzzled, how could she abandon him without permission. She was severely in love with him, “This got to be a quip, and I mean that fool has been in love with me for five years! (Y/N) couldn’t leave me behind like that. She couldn’t be that much of a fucking idiot. Without me she could be dead as a weasel,” he let Harley’s hand fall earning a pout from her and proceeded to place both of his hand on Barbara’s shoulder. Looking at her with an insane smile but his eyes told otherwise.
“She said that she is happy for you being happy with another, ahem… Person.” she answered looking at Harley who was looking around obviously not listening and in her own world.
“She said that she wants to feel sane again, she was happy that you found someone that can make you feel real emotions and she wants you to know that she is proud of you—“
The conductor was beside you and you gave the money as he nod and went on to the other seat. You stared outside the window. “New York here I come…”
“She couldn’t have done this to me…” his eyes were void after Barbara explaining everything.
Barbara nodded the other members of the Maniax to follow her, whom they followed; Harley was looking at Jerome confused but was then confronted by Barbara who pulled her.
“Heh…”
“I’ll find her one way or another… She will fucking regret leaving me.” He soon then followed along the group, “You can’t escape Mr. Joker, Mrs. Valeska~”

// Another new follower prompt! 10/14 left if I’m remembering correctly. More Shepard drama. A part that every fan of the series knows, that I just rewrote with a little of my own jazz, and a few personal touches. That’s what fanfic is for, right?
Hunting geth out in the far reaches of space was not Shepard’s idea of a good mission. In fact, she would much rather be what she was supposed to be doing, the thing she had fought nearly a year to prove, and that was finding a way to stop the Reapers! No matter how many times the Council tried to brush their name under the proverbial rug, she wouldn’t let it drop, she couldn’t. It was her duty as an N7 in the Alliance, and as a Spectre for the Council, to protect the people of this galaxy. Even if she wasn’t going to have any official help.
“Disengaging FTL drives. Emission sinks active. Board is green, we’re running silent.”
Joker’s voice echoed over the PA system as the team geared up in the lower decks. Everyone was there, willing to do what was necessary.
“Hey Shepard, I want to show you something,” Garrus’ voice interrupted her final weapon’s check.
“What is it?”
He was a bit jittery, trying to play it off casual, but she had known him long enough to know his nervous habits. “It’s, ah, up in the mess.” Shepard gave him a funny look but followed when he led the way. The long elevator ride was more awkward than usual, so many questions hanging in the air, but her quiet curiosity overcame her need for answers.
When he still didn’t have anything to show for their effort, Shepard crossed her arms. “Well?”
“It was around here somewhere, I swear! Damn, I bet Wrex took it…” She didn’t seem quite convinced of that.
“Brace for evasive maneuvers!!”
The sudden panic of Joker’s voice, and a hard port swerve, caught the two of them off guard, stumbling through the cabin, attempting to grab onto anything they could just to stay upright. An explosion ripped through medbay, sending shrapnel and glass in every direction, the few unlucky souls who had been inside charred to a crisp while Garrus and Shepard could do nothing but watch.
“On your feet, Vakarian!” she scolded, launching into action as she did every time, without hesitation or a second thought. Together they pulled the few injured they could away from the flames as they could, but another hit rocked the Normandy and sent them both to the ground again. A hole ripped through the side of the ship, emergency procedures shutting the medbay doors before everything in the mess was jettisoned.
The Normandy was dying.
“Help the wounded, and get the team together! We’re leaving!” Tossing her gun aside, knowing it would do her no good here, she made the distress beacon her top priority. Emergency lights bathed everything in a sickly red glow, tinting the walls with the blood of the fallen, the people she had sworn to protect, the ones she told herself she would not lose again.
Garrus helped those he could into the nearby escape pods, nuding those that needed it. So many were loathed to leave, but any who remained would not survive amongst the ruin of their ship, their home. “Shepard! Do you think the Alliance will get here before…” he trailed off, not keen to finish the thought.
“If they don’t, we’re all dead anyway, so it doesn’t matter. The beacon is ready for launch. That’s all we can do right now.” The entire hull shuddered as explosions ripped along its side, destroying what little structure remained. Compared to the size of the flames, their small extinguisher would do nothing to contain them, but it wasn’t about practicality at this point; it was about hope. Just seeing them try their damndest to get everyone out alive would give some the will to keep going. “Did everyone make it to the escape pods?”
“Our entire team is on, and what’s left of the crew - but Joker’s still in the cockpit.”
“Damnit!” A line shorted in the wall, igniting more fires, and snapping against her armor.
“He won’t abandon the ship, and I know you won’t abandon him. I’m not abandoning you, either. Commander.”
Cursing out her frustrations in every word she knew, Shepard turned back and grabbed the edge of his crest, yanking him down to eye level. “You are getting off this ship, Vakarian. It’s up to you to make sure the crew makes it off alive. I’m dealing with Joker, and I will see you planetside.”
“Shepard…”
“That’s not a request, Vakarian. Get your scrawny ass moving. Now.”
He hesitated, backing away slowly. Even if their helmet visors obstructed their faces, Shepard knew the way he’d be looking at her, that reluctant acceptance when he knew she was right. “Yes ma’am.”
Truthfully, she didn’t want him to leave her there alone, but there wasn’t a choice right now. Those escape shuttles needed to be launched before they met the same fate as the Normandy. They were all dead if they didn’t leave the ship. And Shepard wasn’t about to let that happen on her watch.
“Mayday, mayday, mayday! This is SSV Normandy! We’ve suffered heavy damage from an unknown enemy!”
Her heart ached as she ascended the stairs, greeted with the shattered remains of what was once their tactical navigation… Lights flickered among the panels, ghostly whispers of the people who used to man those stations, some of their bodies still floating in the vacuum of space. It was not a pleasant sight… some still had the expressions of pure terror and pain locked into their features.
“Come on, baby, hold together… hold together…!”
Try as she might to move faster, seeing that golden beam shear the ship into pieces, her mag boots would not move any faster. Their time was running out. If she died because of Joker, she swore she’d haunt him every damn day of his life.
“Joker!” Shepard grabbed the cuff of his shirt without waiting, but he refused to move, grabbing hold of his chair as he kept pressing buttons.
“No, I won’t abandon the Normandy!” he insisted, stubborn as all get out. “I can still save her!”
The Normandy was his baby. The only thing he cared about in this life. Not risking any talkbalk or waste of time negotiating, Shepard bodily lifted him out of the chair and threw him over her shoulder.
“Ow, ow! Watch the arm!!” Before she could take so much as a step back towards the cockpits escape pod, the system’s alarms went nuts. “They’re coming around for another attack!”
She ran for the escape, stopped short by the brilliant light that had shorn the ship clear in half. There would be nothing left of her. With minimal help from Joker, shouting as he saw his one love destroyed before his very eyes, Shepard strapped him into his seat. A sudden vacuum from the loss of pressure behind her pulled Shepard from her feet, barely hanging onto the strap holding Joker to his seat.
“Commander!”
A drive in the back of the ship blew, the resulting shift of pressure and mass jostling the separated cockpit, throwing her grip and pulling her from the pod. There wasn’t time. For a second, her mind flashed to Garrus, to her team... . She caught the edge of the frame, too far to return to the pod, but close enough to hit the jettison. Joker called after her, but she shut him out as her fist hit the release, the backward thrust sending her farther into the skeleton of her ship.
Sharp pain spiderwebbed through her back as she struck a support, hearing things pop that shouldn’t have, knowing more than a few bones were broken. Her breaths came shorter now. Igniting explosions in the pressurized portion of the ship that remained caught her eye and she realized the fuel line was on fire. This was it. The golden rays of light that descended should have been from the so called heaven, but all they promised was a painful death as they ruptured the last vestiges of the Normandy SR1. Her hull cracked as she exploded, the pressure sending pieces outward even as the vacuum extinguished the resulting flames.
Shepard could only watch, as she was thrown out into orbit, while everything she had built fell apart to an unknown assailant. Having a good view of the cruiser that attacked them, she didn’t recognize it. The make was neither Geth nor Reaper.
A sudden lack of air made her breath hitch, gasping for a rapidly dwindling supplies, lungs aching in effort. She was not going to remain in the openness of space much longer - the propulsion from the explosions had sent her into a decaying orbit around the planet. She would burn up in atmosphere, or she would suffocate as her air supply was vented from a ruptured tube. Struggle as she might, there was no helping her now.
Maybe she deserved it, after all those she let die, after playing god so many times to choose who would live and who would not. It made her wonder… would he be waiting for her?
Shepard let her last thoughts wander to Kaidan, hoping, praying, that he had forgiven her for leaving him behind.

OH MY GOD THAT throwback. The nostalgia bricked me in the face. FUCK.... So it definitely wasn’t Kibougamine that erased their talents. Then, who was it? Was it the “Remnants of Despair” aka the SDR2 crew? Who enabled them to erase their talent and hide from the SHSL Hunt?
CHARGE THE KIBO POWER
Omg Ro is twins...... The Gemini dial! Uma is HORSE????? Horse head?????? How far into this did Ouma know? This started being written in chapter 2 no?
Oh so the weird background was Amami’s room... And he was talking to his future, memoryless self? That’s nuts;; Uhm.......  I cannot hold all these wtfs. Did he survive a killing game....... Done with these same students? Done with other students? Because if I was right about them actually being revived and Mastermind redoing it over and over, then he could have survived one of the “previous” “same” Killing Game. But maybe I’m getting ahead of myself @_@ Trying to piece all this shit together is always nuts without the final reveal. But if that were the case, wouldn’t he have had another talent, the talent that got him into the SHSL category in the first place?
NO....... How dare you show me everyone being friends? How dare you shove that in my face
Not this twin bullshit again. If you tell me her twin is Monaka i’m gonna murder myself
Catch ALL THE BUGS. It’s kinda cute that Ouma planned something like that, even if he was the cause for Gonta’s death....... I’m guessing there’s some nanomachine that they mistook for bugs
MONOKUMA PLANNED PARENTHOOD omfg. That tacky as fuck room. Of course it has to be a Junko fan. And HO look at the bullshit murder again. Is it just gonna be “Amami was very conveniently killed by the mastermind instead of by Bakamatsu’s trap and she was executed wrongly everyone cries” thing? It’s funny Amami had the cheat map version, kinda like if you start Castlevania with the hidden places.
ANOTHER hidden passage in the bathroom...... I’m not even surprised.
I KNEW IT. There WERE lies in the Remembering Light. The question is how to tell between them. Saihara why u not look through all the directories god dingit U friggin detective bitch
Kibo is so cool :C He’s just so damn Megaman cool. Fuse Megaman and Raiden and you have Kiboo
Ok so..... maybe instead of clones, there’s... the one that has some sort of Time travel would be? The mastermind? Kaede’s twin? Time for some 999 SteinsGate bullshit. But then why would they say they can bring back the dead? How would that even work?
Oh no .... I was just thinking Shirogane had very little spotlight moments and even less character development. Now everything points to the Mastermind being a student
:CCC WELL..... It’d make her switching clothes with Akamatsu even more ironic. Also again it’d be a twin with blonde hair and a twin with blue hair. What IS IT with this combination???
SMH..... The passage in the bathroom completely fucks over Shirogane. Because she’s the only one that was in the girl’s bathroom for a long time. I shouldve known better than to let myself like her......... Nooooooooooo
53 generation bullshit? What the dicks is this? Hmm. V3. 53 huh. They screwed us over a lot
Yeah so if the memories were indeed false now we proceed to question everything. Is this false too, is this false too? For all we know the world could still be fucked but not from asteroids. But what would be the point if they weren’t even from Kibougamine? That would just be lame.
Are they in a simulation again?????? Suddenly Hinata?????? What
Now that’s just shitposting. They’re gonna pull the “it’s fiction” card.
Well. This is extreme shitposting. Are they calling the fanbase sick sadistic fucks? “u guys watching these poor people kill each other” or something?
I cannot hold this level of meta. All these wall breaks
I CANT BREATHE, LOOK AT THE TITLE SHITPOSTING???? It’s exactly like series that go on too long
So is solving that one case what landed Saihara in this? Or are their talents actually fabricated as well? <_> Are the people dead or alive?????? TEll me gonta is alive plz Nope they’re dead. They’re all dead for the sake of Tsumugi’s OCs........... GHHGJHDSGJH
Yep we were played hardcore. All the first appearances were the real appearances.
I really REALLY missed the DR1/2 voices DAMN. Fujisaki :C Ishimaru..... Even Celeste FUCK. Was Sayaka’s voice always this amazing? I love how harsh Peko’s voice is,,,,,, I love the DR2 crew so much....... cries on hands
So many out of character sayings. I’m sure the characters would loathe seeing themselves say some of those things lmao god
I think they got a real point. How you can suffer and be in pain with a “lie”, a fiction, but also how you can feel joy and hope out of the same lie/fiction.The dillema of fiction, of experimenting with taboo topics, in this example the killing, and questioning how much it plays a part into the reality side.
But in this case, it’s going to another level. Like questioning human existence in SOMA. If you take a real human mind and place it in a robotic body, can it still be called a human existence? Can humans scanned and preserved in a “fiction” still be called human?
The ideas are very fucking smart. Kodaka trolled us hard while also questioning the entire fanbase and his series base. And dang, all those inside jokes. They really took a good long look at the fandom and how we think; But it’s still hilarious it’s all orchestrated by a greedy company, ran by a delirious cosplayer fangirl and feeding the masses that want both the negative and the positive points of the plot/characters
Kaito was in it for mundane reasons and ended up with the meaningful “protag” role huh. I wonder what bullshit Korekiyo said to earn himself such a shitty background story. I like his character. Just..... I wish his reasons were not bad writing. Tsumugi u done fucked up
Robot Bondage? I strangely approve of that
Shirogane waving goodbye with mascot,. throwback to Chiaki....... CRIES
:C Well I was right in not expecting Kibo to live. But still he’s the best survey processor ever. My favorite quiz boy. I will pretend you’re alive and well flying up the clouds cuz FUCK IT
In a sense, it’s like they’re blowing up a literal hole into ending the series and opening a path to direct the fans back to reality, or per say, the outside. “Go out there, do the thing, hope out there.”
In a world where your identity and truths and lies are uncertain, you have to pave a way for yourself taking the best out of it all? I’m sure someone will reason this game ending and the analogies way more eloquently, but anyway.
I really enjoyed the story. The extra effort they put on CGs really enrichened everything. I’m not sure how I feel about the big big big plot twist yet. I guess it’s something to slowly digest over time. Can’t say this is my favorite.
Was the time travel thing a misunderstanding by the fans or a prank by Kodaka? I kept expecting it and it was nowhere
I’d say in most to least fav, I’m still with SDR2, DR0, DR1, and last? DRAE. I still don’t know how to feel about Another Episode or the animes TBH
So this was me going through this rollercoaster. If you read this so far, then I hope you laughed at my stupid at least once. I’m gonna go and reblog a fuckton of fanart now. Bye
