i feel i should expand my explanations as this post got more notes. Firstly i must say that im okay with people disagreeing with me and replying! Its all really good. And before anyone says it, yes, i know the animation is still there to watch. That doesn't mean i can't talk about what i disliked about the live action, that said…

What bothered me about mai and ty lee is how they lacked any personality besides praising azula and being around her. If they were going to show them 1st season, they could've involved them in the omashu conquer scene at least in the end. They basically just stood there by azula's side telling her she was perfect and deserved the throne blabla and just that??

i agree that in the end the result of the agni kai didn't change, but the whole scene of him refusing to fight showed that zuko was in the end a scared child that wouldn't dare raise his hand let alone his fist against his father. They took the utter feat he felt in that scene away, fear that made him unable to fight ozai at all. In the end it worked out, but ozai burning zuko despite the fact he refused to fight and knelt in fear before him was what made him look as the horrible father he was

i wouldn't say ozai was really a good dad, but they definitely tried to portray him as more favoring over zuko, if only to push azula to become better, making the whole banishment thing seem useless because why would he pray his shame of a son and use that to make his sister, who's supposed to be a prodigy and better than him, strive to become greater. Not to mention that comment he made criticizing her “whispers” and disguising her true intentiond against her brother by aiding zhao. Ozai sparing the unit zuko talked in defense of as well. It was all so odd

and while the cave of two lovers lore may be nitpicking, i hated how their attempt of queer inclusion was to change a canon fact instead of using already existing canon queer relationships. I was sincerely expecting them to mention rangi as she was a fire nation lieutenant appart from being kyoshi's girlfriend. Besides, seeing how they decided to include comic lore, they could've included mingxia or idk. That's really my opinion

Now, what bothered me about the avatars “bullying” aang is that the whole point of being the avatar, as the show explains, is being compassionate and forgiving as well as firm, and that no avatar is free of blame and all have made mistakes in their lifetimes. The short of escape from the spirit world shows that, in the end, they're human, so i don't think they'd criticize aang so vehemently because they wouldn't really have much a right to do so, and they'd be understanding that he was a kid and he was afraid, THEN they'd tell him that he should atone for his mistake, not just “this is all your fault don't try to run away from your duty again -threatens him with their power-", they all just came across as insensitive and ruthless saying that the avatar should be a warrior and do what it takes, like killing, but never the advice they gave him in the show about the importance of justice, decisiveness, activeness and duty. They’re literally like well life's hard suck it up crybaby

i personally didn't like they excluded aang from the cave of two lovers part, though i guess i understand they had time issues and it appears they want to keep his and katara's relationship vague, which makes me wonder how they're gonna handle it in the future

i agree with sokka and katara's dynamic change. really bad move.

as for june, what bothered me about her flirting it was that it was most likely made to make iroh not look like a “pervy old man”, as he was the one flirting with her in the show and they showed she wasn't really into it. Instead of directly taking away the flirting from the scene, they made HER be the one to do it. It felt so forced that he made it more than once

i did like kyoshi island's arc and up until the omashu ep i was buying it, then it all became a shitshow for me. like i said before, of course people are free to disagree with me and i'm okay with reading your replies, go for it!

dont even get me started on how they reduced mai and ty lee as blind followers of azula that showered her with praise. or how they made zuko look like her example to follow when it was his banishment that made azula look down on him. or how they randomly tried to show ozai's care for zuko and a bit of a soft spot or care for his family. or how they made zuko fight him when the point of the scar scene was that he got it because he refused to fight his own father.

better yet, i could begin talking of how they took away katara's maternal attitude because it wasn't “fitting” for a girl her age and instead gave the role to sokka, who angrily tells her to grow up at one point, when it originally showcased the effects of the loss of her mother by trying to assume the position she left empty, while in the original show sokka did the same trying to fill hakoda's absence.

let's also talk about how they made hakoda look horrible when he criticised sokka's actions behind his back instead of supporting him with the idea of improvement to instead make ozai look like a better father. Or hey, wait, the scenes where everyone keeps blaming aang for having “abandoned” (even kyoshi) the world for some freaking reason???

suki head over heels for sokka right off the bat and stalking him around. june incessantly flirting with iroh. the whole cave of two lovers lore completely butchered. the omission of plot points to give priority to unnecessary scenes. the avatars being a bunch of a*holes that bully aang instead of guiding him. that random miniplot of roku with the small replica of the mother of faces????

You know what? People shouldn't feel bad about liking things in fandom, or creating things that make them happy. I'm absolutely vagueposting, but this really isn't about one post, it's about a tone I've noticed popping up again lately from multiple people (including people I follow and generally respect!)

-"They absolutely cannot fuck! So crazy people would think about that and be into it, it would break canon! "

-"Mod AU doesn't work, they're Serious Characters they aren't gonna run a coffee shop its OOC! "

-"Actually, fun fluffy fic about them at all during a certain era doesn't work!"

I get it. I agree with a fair part of it. People post all kinds of asinine shit that I hate actually. But you know where I bitch about it? Privately in group chat.

Let people fucking have fun. I get the sense that many people come to this fandom specifically because it's Serious and Challenging and you want to Do Serious Analysis. I think a lot of folks around these parts either are in school and not having a good time about it, or wish that they had gone into better academia that doesn't really exist, and they're getting that need met here. And that's great! For real!

But you know what else is fine? People who either don't have that need, or are getting it met in other parts of their lives, and come here for stress relief and a fun free hobby.

Of course they can't fuck for real! It's not in the text, they simply don't. But the tension is obviously written in, and playing with possibilities can be fun! Also if you can't see how it could happen and still not fix shit, that's a skill issue. Fic authors aren't stupid, we don't fail to understand canon, but not everything has to be everything all the time. Sometimes you want to do all the work and try to match the level of writing in the show, and sometimes you want to have something nice and easy. The show is REALLY well written and what it needs to be, the point of transformative works is playing with what it's NOT. Some people cope with fluff, or good ending everybody lives AUs, and it might be so totally valid to look down on that, but maybe being publicly correct might be less important than being kind?

Actually, the main thing I want to say is that if YOU reading this are a person who wants to write a cute coffeeshop AU, or be horny on main about your boys kissing, it's actually fine!! At least, it historically has been fine. This is a really small fandom now and not that many people are actively creating, please don't be discouraged by this stuff, because the people who criticize on tumblr are actually not the majority. The REASON they criticize is that, if you go to AO3 and sort by kudos, much of it is this super sweet OOC stuff! It looks like that's most of what there is, because a lot of readers in the wild who watch the show and look up fic like it!

Anyway. Let people have fun, it doesn't cost you anything, and not every thought needs to be public. It actually does discourage people.

Tim has never been my favourite so maybe I just don’t understand but like what is the fandom desire to abuse Tim? or make it so Bruce abuses him or assaults him or that the Batfam hates him?? It seems like every other post I see about Tim is centred around him being severely abused by the Batfam.

With Tim there's a couple different things happening; first is the general way a lot of fans will enjoy angst/hurt type stories and situations like I've seen it with multiple fandoms and multiple characters it's not unique to Tim we all like to hit our fav characters with sticks bc we want to feel something

Secondly Tim just has a big victim complex in popular fanon if he's not being abused by his parents, then he's being beaten up by Jason or Damian, or Dicks trying to send him to Arkham, or Bruce is actually just being Bruce he does do some messy stuff depending on who's writing him (I will also note you actually see a similar thing with Jason but I shan't get into that now)

Anyway to conclude people like angst and Tim is an angst magnet (also something something about tim being a lot of people's self insert character but im not getting into that right now)

To address the obvious theme here: friendship. Yes, they’re also all adorable and Sakura deserves cute things, but primarily they’re a good representation of his canon-typical character growth — as in, you’re going to see these babies evolve at crucial moments during Sakura’s journey, and almost exclusively to show he’s opened his heart to another traveling companion.

And then there’s Absol, my personal favorite misunderstood Pokemon. A so-called harbinger of disaster who’s actually vital to preventing loss of life and resources. It’s my favorite pick for Sakura because it’s just so damn fitting for who he is and how his friends come to see him.

I’m leaving the last spot open for now but I’m leaning towards having him run into Type: Null at some point (don’t ask me how, this is all vibes and no plot at this point). It’s another friendship evolution so it’s especially good for this line-up, plus I appreciate that its in-game relevance lines up with Sakura’s canon themes again.

I've been drawing since a long time, and I am still so glad I could experience fandom without any drama during my younger years, where I'm sure it would have done more harm during that age. School life was already hard enough, don't need that online as well.

I find it sad to see, today on twitter, that some artists get praised for their work but get bullied the moment they draw anything dark, unmoral of their fictional ship for example. And it's forever bizarre to see, what is okay for those people and what not - where do they draw the line? I wonder when they will start attacking gamers for drowning their Sim in the pool once, considering killing is another heinous, unmoral act, and that it is fictional does not change the fact for them, that those players are probably all potential murderers now irl. It's so hypocritical.

It's so stupid and frustrating to see, that simply blocking isn't possible, no... harassment gotta start, all because of fictional content, which does not define someone's real life. Was it always this bad, or did it get worse, but why? It definitely feels like something coming from the USA, because I have not witnessed such witch hunts under artists in the Eastern Region, tho ofc there is also language barrier, so I may not know.
