“What’s that?” You asked, eyebrows knitted in concern as you gestured to the thin scratches on Joel’s hand with your chopsticks.

The two of you were sitting at the dinner table eating the takeout you had bought from a local Chinese place. Christmas Eve dinner. It’s a tradition. 

Joel hummed, tilting his wrist, his watch blinking in the candlelight. His hand was covered in scratches from the kitten he had been so dutifully hiding from you for the past three days.

Joel had never been much of a cat person, dogs had always seemed to speak to him more. They were wide eyed and ready to do whatever you asked, while cats were much more independent. Feisty. They did what they wanted, when they wanted. 

In a way, they reminded him of you. His fireball of a wife. 

And you loved cats. Always showing Joel videos on your phone of cute cats, tearing up instantly any time the two of you saw a stray on the streets, to which you fed it whatever you had on you. And if you didn’t have anything on you, you’d crouch down, profusely apologizing to it as if that’d be a suitable replacement to a real meal. As if it could understand you.

Joel always carefully tugged you along when you got like that, and gently refused you when you begged to bring it home. 

Not because he was an ass or anything… It’s just…the fleas on that thing! Who knows what diseases it could have? And the expenses…it’s a lot to worry about.

But you’re coming up on seven years together, and the two of you had finally reached a state of economic stability and owned a home together. 

So, when Joel was out in the city one day running errands for a new renovation project under his contracting company, he didn’t refuse the stray kitten that had scrambled after him from seemingly out of nowhere. An orange one, with big green eyes and the pointiest little tail that flopped with each bound of its little legs.

It was damn cute. He’d never seen anything that fucking adorable. Besides you, maybe. 

Joel was not usually very weak to the charms of cats, but this one reminded him of you somehow. The way you’d follow him with an excitement he’d never seen in anyone else before. You loved unconditionally, and while that was a trait Joel often saw in dogs, the little kitten following after him seemed to possess a similar quality without even having known him. 

So he snatched that little sucker up and texted you he’d be home a little bit late so he could take it to the vet for shots and buy some supplies. He’d been keeping it in the guest bedroom that you refused to go into, claiming it was “haunted���, ever since.

And let it be known that it’s incredibly difficult to keep a cat from a very intuitive (nosy) person like yourself. 

Still, he’d been managing pretty well.

“It’s nothin’,” Joel said. “I just scraped myself with a plank of wood at work.” 

It’s a very believable lie. He’d done that plenty of times. Contractor things.

“Those look deep, though. You don’t have splinters do you?” You asked, reaching for his hand to scrutinize it. Shifting right into concerned wife territory.

He threaded your fingers together and titled his head to catch your eyes. “Sweetheart I’m fine, I promise.”

You squeezed his hand. “You sure?”

“I’m sure.”

You gave him a mild smile, returning to your lo mein. “So, I heard some weird sounds today.”

Joel’s pulse spiked. He roughly swallowed down a dumpling. “Yeah?”

You nodded. “It was weird. Like, high pitched and squeaky. Coming from,” you sent a wary glance down the hallway before leaning in close to whisper, “the guest room. I’m telling you it’s haunted.”

Joel bit back a smile. “Baby, it ain’t haunted. But I’ll go check it out tonight for ya. Maybe it was a rat or somethin’.”

“A murderous rat,” you said, seriously. “That murdered the man that lived here before. And his ghost now haunts that room.”

“Honey, we met the man that lived here before us.”

“Doesn’t mean there couldn’t have been another guy living with him that was brutally murdered by the rat.”

“You’ve been watchin’ too much true crime.”

You shrug, taking a bite of lo mein. “You can never watch too much true crime.” 

After dinner, Joel kept his promise and stopped in the guest room to investigate the ‘killer rat’ while you got comfortable in bed. 

“Be safe,” you had whispered soberly to him, pressing a kiss to his lips.

“You are ridiculous, but I love you,” he whispered back.

"I love you, too."

Joel carefully opened the door enough so he could slip in without the kitten escaping, but he didn’t have to worry. The little orange fur ball was curled into a shape reminiscent of a croissant in the middle of the bed, and when Joel entered, its head lifted up, green eyes blinking sleepily up at him.

“Shit, how are you so damn cute?” Joel murmured, settling down on the bed to pet the kitten. His hand practically engulfed the tiny little thing, and he picked it up gently, tucking it in his arms.

“My wife is gonna love you,” he said, kissing its head. It started purring, a loud rumbling sound that for sure could not come out of a kitten. And yet, it was. “I’m pretty sure I love you.”

It nuzzled its little head into the crook of his elbow, and Joel was hooked right then. Any past bad experiences with cats were forgotten. Friendship ended with dogs, cats were his new best friend.

He sprinkled some more food into its bowl, told it to be a bit quieter, and promised he’d be back tomorrow before he found his place in bed next to you again.

You turned to him under the sheets, cheek squished against the pillow as your hand found his bare, hair-dusted chest. “Was it a rat?”

Joel angled his head to press a kiss to your hair. “Didn’t find anythin’. It must’ve been the AC makin' noise.”

You sighed in relief. “Good.”

“You don’t really believe a rat murdered a man there, right?” 

“No. But I still think it’s haunted. It’s just a hunch.”

“I’ll protect you if you end up being right.”

“Well I’m always right, so I’ll be looking forward to seeing you sexily protecting me.”

Not right this time, he thought to himself, and was proud you hadn’t managed to find out about your surprise. 

He chuckled, and leaned down to press a sweet kiss to your lips. “Merry Christmas Eve, darlin’.”

You smiled. “Merry Christmas Eve, Joel.”

Joel woke you with soft kisses to the back of your neck, his body wrapped around yours, his hand heavy and warm over your stomach.

You looked over your shoulder at him with sleepy eyes. “Merry Christmas.”

He kissed you gently. “Merry Christmas.”

And then he was out of bed almost in an instant. “Ready to open your present?”

You laid there for a second in stunned silence before a light, disbelieving laugh bubbled out of you. “Jeez, someone’s excited. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you get out of bed so fast.”

“I just think I did good this year,” he tapped the doorknob anxiously.

“You do good every year.” You quirked a brow. “What is going on with you? You’ve been so jumpy these past couple of days. Did something happen?”

"Everythin' is just fine,” Joel insisted, coming forward to press his lips to yours again, his hands framing your face. “I’m just nervous about your Christmas present, that’s all.”

“If you didn’t get me anything I wouldn’t care, you know?” You said. “I love just being with you. I mean, at long as you at least got me flowers or something.” 

“I got you more than flowers. C’mon.”

“Okay, okay.”

You followed Joel to the living room, and he made you both coffee before setting you down on the couch.

“I’ll be right back.”

Joel nervously made his way to the guest room, grabbing the decorated box he had poked holes in and had set the kitten inside this morning while you were still asleep before he snuck back into bed.

He opened the lid. The kitten stared up at him and mewled. Yup, still alive. Thank god.

Joel reentered the living room with the box. You made grabby hands at him, grinning with amusement as he carefully set it in your lap. 

“This better not be anything too expensive,” you said, reaching for the lid.

Joel shrugged. “Practically got it for nothin’.”

“Well, now I’m concerned.”

“Just open it.”

You rolled your eyes playfully and lifted the lid, and Joel’s entire body flooded with a relieved warmth the moment you registered what was staring back at you, quelling the anxious jitters he had been dealing with the entire night before and into the morning.

Your curious gaze melted into a look of pure shock, your wide eyes immediately starting to swim with tears as a high pitched oh my god, Joel left your lips.

You carefully took the kitten out of the box, holding it tight to you as a sob escaped you. And then you were fully crying fat, wet tears. Panic struck him in the chest, and he hurried to sit down next to you on the couch.

“Do you not like him? We can give him away, please don’t cry, honey-”

“No no! I’m just so happy,” you said through tears and Joel relaxed. “I love him. I can't believe you got me a kitten. I thought you didn’t like cats?”

“This one changed my mind,” he explained, petting the little creature. “His claws are goddamn sharp though.”

You elbowed him. “I knew those scratches looked cat-like.”

“Wouldn’t have been a surprise if I told ya.” 

“Yeah yeah.”

You maneuvered the cat to look him straight in the eyes. He wriggled in your hands. “Did you scratch up daddy’s hand? You’re a little stinker but god you’re so fucking cute!” You squealed, pressing the kitten’s head to your lips to pepper hundreds of kisses on it.

Joel’s hand snaked around your waist. “What’re you gonna name ‘em?”

You didn’t even hesitate, mumbling against his marigold fur. “Pretzel.”

“Pretzel?” Joel huffed in amusement.

“I’ve always wanted to name a cat that,” you defended, holding Pretzel up to fawn over him again. His purr loudly echoed through the living room.

“Alright then. Welcome to the Miller family, Pretzel.”

Do you have any favorite Good Omens fics you would recommend, or have you written any?

Oh, dear, I have A TON! I'm not sure if they would be "new", but here I go, nonetheless. I read a lot of AU fics (and I'm writing one), so I hope it's not a pet peeve of yours! I'll try to limit myself and not recommend things that I have seen recommended a lot (like "Factory Settings", "the therapy one with the impossibly long name" LOL, "Slow Show", "Oopsie Omens"... I'll make a couple of exceptions, tho). I also read a lot of WIP's, love angst, hurt/comfort and fluff, and prefer skipping over smut (Not a against it per se, love sexy times with feelings), so my selection is... Very particular. Here it goes!!

Demon and Angel Professors: I adore this series of short fics. There are 200 of them in the collection, they all are 666 words long, and both the guys and the new characters are absolutely endearing. The diversity of the cast was a welcome addition.

Listen, Will You Learn To Hear Me From Afar?: This one is short, a little sad but very, very sweet. Aziraphale starts receiving flowers and poems every three years, after Crowley disappears in Edinburgh. I loved the poetry selection.

Stalwart Sun, Wily Moon: Probably, my first AU and the one that started it all. I'm pretty sure this is one of the "everyone and their grannies have already read this", but I adore the relationships, the way the characters transformed by entering this universe (Crowley being a fantastic art thief with a magnificent taste for clothes was something I never knew I needed). I would absolutely watch an adaptation of this fic to the screens.

Too Wise To Woo Peaceably: This one is, probably, another one of the "everyone has read this fic and I don't care", but I really feel deeply about it and its author. It was a tour the force, with daily posting and the author reading and answering the comments EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. Feral But Fluffy brought me single-handedly into being an active participant in this fandom instead of just lurking in the corners. It's a fantastic continuation from the ending of Season 2, with a lot of angst, hurt, laugh and comfort. And Muriel rings absolutely true in here.

Give A Man A Mask: Another one by Feral! This one is a beautiful seduction game, taking Venice and a Masquerade as the background. Sexy, exciting, and hurtful at the same time.

Postcards From Paris: I find myself absolutely enraptured by the AUs created by Ghostrat (and their illustrations!! I use his AU Streamer!Crowley as my laptop wallpaper), but this one is very close to my heart. One lonely lawyer starts receiving postcards addressed to the previous tenant, signed by one AZF. The concept and execution are lovely. His Streamers AU is also very funny, and the Professors AU (Mon Horrible Cheri) is one of the "must reads with a lot of hits that recommends by itself".

Husband Material: This AU has made me laugh A LOT. Crowley is a wedding planner... And he has to plan the wedding of "the one who got away", Aziraphale. It is still a WIP, and it lights my day whenever it appears in my inbox.

Shepherds of the Damned: an after S2 work, the Crowley recovery arc in this fic had my heart leaping. It is also gripping and full with angst and action. A very noble S3, if you ask me.

Symphony of Second Chances: in this AU, Crowley is a drummer, recovering from a terrible shoulder injury and trying to get back to his place in the orchestra. Aziraphale is the visiting director for the next season... And they are absolutely smitten with each other. A lot of hurt and the sweetest comfort ever (it made me want an Aziraphale in my life more than ever). Still a WIP.

The Anon Before Christmas: This fic was pure happiness and tooth rotting fluff, ideal for December, with a warm cup of cocoa. They are humans and have the nicest group of friends one can ever imagine... But they loathe each other. Of course, one meddling Anathema makes sure to make Crowley Aziraphale's Secret Santa.

To Love The Stars Too Fondly: Another fantastic post S2 fic, filled with love and angst and adventure and all the right things to make it a gripping read, and a GREAT ending. Another take that could be a satisfying alternate canon.

Because We Are Carying The Fire: A horror AU! Aziraphale is a professor with a PhD in parapsychology, and one day he receives a mysterious book. Weird things happen, and he looks for the help of Crowley, a podcaster and self appointed demon expert. It is a WIP, and it really delivers. It is romantic and terrifying at the same time.

I've written a short fic, Rebellion, speculating with the causes of The Starmaker's Fall. It came from a prompt imagining "what if rebel angels had been creating alternative lifeforms in the Universe", and it turned slightly dark (because I'm me). I'm also writing and publishing a longer fic, Under The Fold, an AU where AZ Fell and AJ Crowley are journalists who made an exposé that put them in danger and where they will have to use all of their researching abilities to bring justice (and avoid dangers). I've already written 2/3 of it, and half of it is already up, if you feel like reading it!

anyway, back to d word girly and mrs mac! given that you started at dh just as bfiafl was in its final production stages, it didn't take long for the two of you to meet, when she came into the office for meetings about tour and stage design (because that's her job!) - she said something like "oh thank god, we need more girls around here to keep these shits in check", smacked her husband and matty on the back of the head simultaneously, and gave you the biggest hug ever. icon! and then when you started hanging out with everyone outside of work, you got to know her more, and you met baby eilidh, who took a liking to you, which as you can imagine matty was both thrilled about and emotionally damaged by lol. actually, speaking of, i think matty did his fair share of pining over you to ross and his wife and eilidh, all three of whom (well, eilidh just kinda nodded as babies do) encouraged him to ask you out because "it's clear she's got a soft spot for you too, mate" lmao; mrs mac, however, stared him down and said "if you ever hurt that angel of a girl, though, healy, i'll actually murder you myself. she's a sweetheart. don't fuck it up", and ross was like "damn babe ok. but she's right, mate". but the macdonalds are very happy when you and matty get together - they love him, and love seeing him happy, and you make him that way, so they grow to love you too. i think matty worries a little at first that you'll be freaked out by the fact his bffs, the people you hang out with a lot, are married with a kid, but you love spending time with them and playing with bestie eilidh; it's all good, all love, and you KNOW she's so hype when lyla is born three years after her. yeah, it's a cute friendship <3

Yellowjackets Favorite Taylor Swift Albums & Songs

Jackie - 1989

✰ 1989 is probably one of, if not my favorite album because I got it for Christmas the year it came out on cd, which I still have actually! I used to blast it on the vintage boombox I had growing up

✰ but back to Jackie! 1989 just has this vibe of "I'm really going out and I'm starting my life! I'm an adult!" and that was kinda the stage Jackie was at when the plane went down. She was planning for college with big dreams and ambitions behind her

✰ I really think every song on this album fits her for different reasons, but I think her favorite song would probably be How You Get The Girl. I like to think she imagines the song with Jeff, but then one day, Shauna slips into her daydream instead of Jeff, and then very gay thoughts ensue

Laura Lee - Debut & Fearless

✰ I feel like Debut for Laura Lee might be a bit of a copout, but come on! I'm not wrong. It's got that kitschy, country vibe that I can imagine Laura Lee just singing her heart out too

✰ Her favorite song is Teardrops On My Guitar because its the best and girly deserves her pining main character moment just like we all do

✰ Fearless always kinda goes hand in hand with Debut to me since it's when she was still kinda in her country era, so I think Laura Lee would also adore this one. It was actually tricky for me to choose what her favorite on this album would be, but I settles on Tell Me Why because I think it's funny for her to love breakup songs, because let's face it, our girl hasn't gone through a breakup, but she can't help resonating and loving them anyway

Lottie - Evermore

✰ Evermore just felt like another given. It's got that vintage yet whimsical vibe that I like to associate with Lottie that's also got this sad warmth to it I guess. It's also probably one of my favorite albums so of course I give it to one of my favorite girls

✰ I think her favorite song is a tie between Ivy and Long Story Short. I'm not really sure why. They just both fit in my head I guess

Misty - Lover & Midnights

✰ Oh, my sweet hopeless romantic. Misty is the embodiment of both of these albums and no one can argue with me (of course you can, I'm joking). But poor thing just wants to be seen and loved, and I think that's what these albums embody when paired together.

✰ Lover perfectly fits how Misty wants to be loved so bad and the sweet, innocent positive face she forces, but really she's hurting inside. I think from this album her favorites would be The Archer because come on, it's her, and Paper Rings because again, it just fits her so well (it's also got quite a few lines that are definitely what she's doing when she's got a crush)! She's definitely one of those girls making little origami things in class, like those puffy paper stars and of course, paper rings

✰ Then you have Midnights, which imma be real, I only picked because of Mastermind, because it's also her song!

Natalie - Reputation

✰ Yeah, this is another given. I mean, what else do I choose for her? modern teen Natalie would love this album but she wouldn't want anyone to know about it. I think she could also be a Swiftey, but she's very secretive about it. Maybe only Laura Lee knows she's a fan and it's their little secret together

✰ Her favorite song was kinda hard to pick for her, but I settled on Delicate because it's actually extremely fitting for her character, which surprised me when I listened to it again. I personally see teen Natalie as being pretty self continue under the surface, so realizing that she likes someone and they like her back would actually be pretty nerve-wracking for her, which feels fitting for "delicate"

Shauna - Folklore

✰ I went back and forth between Evermore and Folklore for Shauna, but ultimately Lottie is Evermore and Shauna is Folklore in my mind. They both have this sad, old aesthetic to me that fits both albums but in a different way, I guess

✰ but for her favorite song, I picked Cardigan because that felt like another given. I mean, we all saw the way she was watching Jackie at that part pre-crash, right? It was full of that longing you feel In Cardigan

Taissa - Red

✰ I feel like Tai would enjoy early Taylor, but she's more into her kinda pop era, which would make Red the perfect album for her. It's got its up songs as well as its down songs and it fits her ever-changing vibe, which I think is good for her

✰ Choosing a favorite song was another tough one to think about, but I ended up picking State of Grace. It's another one that I don't have a lot of reasoning/explanation for, but it just kinda felt right, y'know?

Van - Speak Now

✰ Van has always felt somewhat country to me and I'm not sure why, so I guess that's fitting for Speak Now. Speak Now kinda gives a nice transition from country into Taylers more pop-ish era, and that just kinda sounds like Van to me. Like, she grew up in the Midwest, but she still somehow has a little Southern charm about her. That could totally just be a me thing though

✰ Her favorite songs have got to be Mean and The Story Of Us. I can imagine Van blasting both of them in the car, singing at the top of her lungs with the windows down, and a huge smile on her face when she's driving around with her friends. We know Van likely doesn't have a car in her teen years, so she's probably driving with Tai and probably Laura Lee. they like singing together to annoy Tai, though she actually enjoys listening to them

8. would your OC ostensibly be able to get away with murder?

oh absolutely. i mean, she kind of does over the course of the game lol; she's an extremely good liar, so she's pretty good at talking her way out of suspicious situations. i think her method of body disposal in the city at least is just... dumping bodies in the chionthar, which works pretty well for her (i imagine bodies turn up in the chionthar all the time).

morality-wise, she's not inclined towards cold-blooded murder — she doesn't see the point in dirtying her hands unless someone's tried to hurt her first — but she would mentally 'get away with it' so to speak because of those rules? she's able to placate her conscience over any deaths she causes by "they tried to hurt me first, it was me or them", so she's cool with that.

actual cold-blooded murder would weigh on her a little more heavily, i think; she's not a super guilty person as a rule, but that's mostly just bc she's very good at justifying her actions to herself. cold-blooded murder without someone trying to hurt her first is harder to justify.

tbh alarice's Song is easy by son lux (feat. lorde), so the lyric i associate with her the most is "pull out your heart / to make the being alone / easy" 🙃. she doesn't seem like a particularly lonely person — she's charismatic, funny, good at making friends, and commands attention — but no one she meets rly gets to know the person she actually is and that causes its own loneliness. she keeps everyone at a distance (because that's how she's learnt u stay alive) and that's, y'know, not great.

hmm. there's not any huge aspects of her backstory that could change to cause an AU, but i suppose the idea of what would've happened if her and astarion had met in baldur's gate before the events of the game is interesting. there's the possibility that she'd get super fucking murdered though so idk how sustainable that AU is. unless she got turned into a spawn instead??? sdhdsjkdsjk im not sure im SOWWY.

11. what is your OC's weapon of choice? have they ever actually used it?

daggers!!!!! 2 of them, she is the queen of off-hand melee. but she's also partial to a light crossbow :) she actually uses them more than she uses any magic tbh; she's a college of swords bard, and she's been incorporating knife-throwing into her performances since she was a teenager, so she's more comfortable with weapons than she is with magic. (not that she doesn't use magic, obviously, especially since a lot of the spells she knows are trickery/illusion based so they're useful to her, but i digress).

12. is your OC self-destructive? in what ways?

ohhhh yes. her self-destructive nature tends to manifest as recklessness — whether that's taking jobs she shouldn't (cough cough) while working for the guild, or racking up huge gambling debts, or trusting a vampire spawn who has absolutely no reason not to rip her throat out, or throwing herself into battle with nothing but a song or a spell to guide her. she says that her main goal is survival, and it is, but she dislikes herself juuust enough to unconsciously fuck that up in little ways every day.

13. if you met your OC, would the two of you get along?

i mean i would probably be charmed by her but also she would steal from me and i am so broke that that would break my heart. i think tbh she would intimidate me a lot too; she's very confident in a seemingly effortless kind of way, and i'd either recognise some of myself in that — since i have it on good authority from others that i come across in a similar way — or i'd like... have a moment of "oh she is everything i want to be" and that'd mess w my head lol. i don't think she'd have any particular love for me, but that's more bc unless people can serve her or they're bound together by a tadpole in the head she doesn't really let herself appreciate the people around her.

14. how does your OC want to be seen by other characters?

strong. powerful. funny and confident and bright and right. she wants to be admired like a hero from a song, but underneath that, deep down, she really wants to be loved. the mortifying ordeal of being known really keeps her away from that though lol; she's extremely terrified of being vulnerable with anyone, so she hides a lot of herself from those around her.

Oooooh! Please, please expand on the “Amy is an Eggman robot AU”! Oh! What if she’s UNAWARE that she’s one of his robots?

Hm, the idea of her being unaware is weird cause I feel like Eggman is way too proud to not let one of his own creations know who their master is, same with the mission maybe not going right if he didn't instruct her before hand. It would be kinda funny in post though, of her very obviously being this cute pink murder machine and everyone but her seems to notice that but they're still nice and accepting anywaysfdshgj. Could also make some interesting angst of her having to coming to terms with that, she might even assume that's why Sonic doesn't want to be with her or something... very fun idea but just not what I was going for.

The idea was that Amy and Metal were designed as twin bots, just with Amy looking far more realistic in order to sell the con, I guess kinda like Breezie from AoSTH (my beloved) but less Like That. I'm not sure if Sonic was aware during the events of CD that she was a robot, it'd be cute if he saved her anyways but IDK if he would realistically want to take that risk of an Eggman robot walking around. So for now I like the gag that he didn't realize till later, and by then Amy had proven herself to be her own person he could trust. Maybe like in that ending cutscene of CD it's actually her that blows up Eggman trying to escape instead of Sonic lol.

After that she'd be like her usual self except people are probably slightly offput by her being a robot before realizing she's chill. Like I said it'd be funny if she acts like it's some big secret of her's but to most it's kinda obvious. Maybe in her voice, maybe in her mannerisms, maybe in the way her joints clearly 360 sometimes fhdsgjsd. Tails and Sonic are the only ones she shares this "secret" with and Tails is probably very happy to help her with upgrades, specifically with when she wanted to make sure she still didn't look like a kid as everyone grew up. Also kinda imagine her wanting to wear bigger frillier clothing to hide any possibly seems in her body, but that's me self-indulgently wanting to put little blorbos in cute outfits lol.

I guess this au would also make her obsession with Sonic both from inspiration and a funny mix of programming seeing as he still was once her target, but with Tails' help they could probably break that, and she can be obssessed with Sonic for purely her own reasons <3. This background also makes a lot of her interactions more interesting. Her sympathizing with Gamma, convincing Shadow to fight for what he really believes in, dealing with her funny evil brother's failed attempt at taking over the world... stuff like that. I think it also makes it cute that later she's seen as the heart and mediator of the group, probably from studying up on stuff about organic folk. Maybe I could bring back her tarot card stuff too as something she finds interesting because her robo brain knows its 1000% illogical, I love stuff like that with robot/non-human characters. There's also that flicky companion she has in Sonic Prime, maybe that could've been the flicky that was powering her that got set free and replaced with a less cruel power source.

Her interactions with Tails and Metal are something I'd wanna see, but I don't have big plans for this or anything myself so honestly feel free to steal my ideas, I'd read someone elses interpretation of it.

id like to mention that NYA in the first universe (or SAI) is the master of water and aware of her powers but he uses them discretely enough that KAI picks up on it but doesnt really notice its her (becauses hes not water ninja until s5) , theyre all kinda in a big resistance group with a few other elementals he'll never really get to know so he'd probably assume its someone else's powers even if its coming out of SAI'S hands which will just have 2 be some blatantly obvious dramatic irony and make KAI look like an idiot but thats ok bc he kinda is

im not really sure what to call COLE in this universe bc i was gonna go for scythe yk cuz thats his first weapon but then the scy parts sounds too similar to SAI so then i went towards hammer but the nickbame is ham which i thought was too silly so maybe something like GHOST or WAR(hammer lol) and i thought id just call LLOYD GREEN or ONI idk im not very good at naming

WAR/GHOST (theyre both horrible names i know) is pretty difficult i think, i do want to say that he is indeed a ghost in this au even though there isnt actually a reason for it this time so if the virsus comes he can posess the nearest inanimate object so theres no real need for a mask but if he were to wear one i think he'd probably have those cheap craft store ones because its accessible and it doesnt really matter bc its not necessary for him. i was originally going to have SHURIKEN just have his robot form as the disguise but then he was made to look humanlike and i feel like a game would easily know and recognize a human robot and go for it anyways so i think he'd either use his cloaking feature and change his appearance entirely (but i kinda imagine that to have a cooldown) or the mask as i said earlier

ok so re: boarding school au, i think it's a good idea precisely because actually that hookup culture isnt just a fanfic fantasy and is really common at boys schools, esp british ones which have long histories of elitism, politics and high society. its a breeding ground for all sorts of stuff, and homosexual activity appears in many forms, not always good. often for power, control, mentorship, etc. sort of like prison :( but ofc there's the exciting exploratory side, kinship, and genuine queer awakenings too. i think an amazing piece could be written that captures all the themes, but it would be even more exciting if will wasnt the only cum dump lol, and the whole thing of boys having sex was widespread, including mike with other boys. that would make his possessiveness about will even better because it would explore sex when in love vs when not in love, and make mike's jealousy even more hypocritical from will's pov. i especially love the 'its just to pass the time until we meet girls' excuse haha

A very in-depth look at some sort of boarding school setting could be really interesting and evocative and don't hold me to ever actually writing it because it's super ambitious! Just know it's rotating in the back of my head somewhere and probably will be for a while now.

Ok same before BLLK I was like knee deep in JJK (do you have a fav?? i’m in pretty much the same boat!! i loveddd jjk and was p active in the fandom from like 2022-early 2024. my favs were megumi kashimo and yuta!! but i loved inumaki for a while hehe. i think some of my best fics are for jjk in terms of the kind of story i like to write 🤔 but i do agree that recently i’ve felt v lukewarm abt it

i feel like it’s a trend to hate on things that are popular which i don’t necessarily agree with but i just feel like i don’t really enjoy reading jjk anymore!! and i think a lot of its fans think popular = good which isn’t always the case. i also believe it gets a lot of praise which while some of it is merited (the things jjk does well it does VERY well) some it maybe not so much. for example i’ve seen a lot of people praising jjk for its female cast and honestly i don’t see the appeal. not a single female character is written as well as the male characters (including maki, who as much as i love her and as much as she is def above average for a shonen fc, is not really as well written as people make her out to be imo) and they all have dissatisfactory/vague endings (the way yuki tsukumo’s character was handled was a crime, same w tsumiki). i think a lot of fans think not sexualized automatically means good female character but that’s only one portion of it. jjk is kind of what i mean when i say i’m glad bllk has barely any female characters…i rather they don’t exist than get shelved for the plot/development of male characters/not even fully explored

also the way people were confused about whether nobara died for YEARS after it was shown in the manga and it was only cleared up in an interview is just. idk. i feel like i love what jjk could be (and again, i love a lot of things in it as well!! this is more me explaining why i’m not so into it anymore ig haha) and the things it set up to happen, but the execution isn’t really to my taste. different people will enjoy diff things but that’s just me 🤷🏻‍♀️ i keep up with it just because i feel like i have to?? i want to know how it all ends but i’m not emotionally invested like i used to be. also one thing i will say is i see a lot of analysis posts breaking down jjk and pointing out the different subtle details gege has put into it, and while i admire that level of attention i think those kinds of details should only serve to enhance a main story?? like the plot should be able to stand on its own without needing to have a very very deep understanding of many many nuanced topics. but again all of this is my personal opinion!! at the end of the day jjk is wildly popular and many people do enjoy it. gege isn’t perfect but no one is tbf so while i think criticism is good i would never bash on them for their ideas/work. at the end of the day it’s their story and the way they want to tell it is what they’re going to do!!

PLSSS omg yes i sat there making sure white butterflies even exist in japan and everything 😭 there’s a line in hollyhock too where y/n compares reiji hiiragi to a hornet and originally the line referred to him as a vulture but apparently japan doesn’t have native vultures?? so it wouldn’t make sense coming from someone in the sengoku era to refer to a bird she would have had no chance at ever seeing. my philosophy is that it’s one of those things that people won’t care about if you forget (and sometimes artistic liberties can be taken) but the more careful you are to ensure you’re being as accurate as possible, the more the work really feels cohesive and believable ig?? 🤔 idk i think it just gives a more seamless vibe and you can def tell when an author is knowledgeable or at least did some research before writing abt a subject!! it always elevates a fic to me and i’d like to give that same experience to my own readers hehe plus i’m a bit of a perfectionist so i’d make myself do it anyways most likely

I AGREE i can sense them becoming popular they really are just fandom tropes as actual characters!! as long as their animation does them justices 😭 otoya and yuki looked okay in the last ep but karasu…they did my man a lil dirty icl 😔 omg that screenshot of him is so funny to me idek what it is he just looks so odd!! same in the epinagi movie though not to that extent 😔 i think part of it is that he’s drawn so sharply in the manga that in the anime he looks a little too soft?? for lack of a better word. also i got so used to him having black hair that i forgot his hair is technically purple-blue (karasu with black hair and purple eyes you will forever live in my heart). i was rewatching bllk a while ago and i saw him in that moment (he’s in the background i think he’s either judging shidou or judging raichi and gagamaru) and i had to rewind like HELP IS THAT KARASU?? but he’s kinda cute though…w his little 😒😕 expression…

also this is unrelated but idk how i just realized kurona was number 4 in second selection?? the way he beat literally every relevant character except rin is so funny (although tbf idrk how aryu and tokimitsu got 2nd and 3rd but then completely faded from relevancy after second selection)

ALRIGHT so the first image and the second last image are connected. it’s more like tapestry if picard actually looked 21. q copying him sorta because i like the idea of him doing that, almost like what he does in star trek picard. the one of them in the bed is sort of like. evil tapestry bed scene.

the writing “i need to relax i think” was just me writing to myself but interpreting that as dialogue is really cool i dig it.

the second image is homestuck bs. now i never read it myself, but ive always really enjoyed classpecting. classpecting has always been ultra intriguing to me cus character’s personality dictating what powers they get is fun as hell. my friend (who IS a homestuck fan) classpected picard as a mage of light and q as a lord. i suggested q being a lord of breath and we went with it. search up classpecting character analysis, it’s really interesting actually.

THE 80S AU! honestly the accuracy of the au jumps back and forth up and down depending on what we (mark and i) want for the au. heres the doc i’ve made for it (it’s pretty bare bones but theres some stuff in there). we also have a playlist lol. i don’t imagine it being as qcard focused as the other aus i’ve made, the qcard focus is purely because they are in my brain all of the time. honestly its mostly an excuse for me to associate characters with music genres i like lol

the relationship between q and picard in the 80s au is. um. very intense. won’t go into too much detail but q and picard do things that neither is incredibly proud of lol

human q drawing exists for two reasons: 1) scenario where q remains human for longer and what happens in naked now is pushed back to this point 2) bums are funny

the multiple au drawing was poking fun at the amount of aus mark and i have made but the scenario you came up with is awesome lolol picard is so tired… give him a break

when i first watched qpid i really loved the idea of q and vash striking a friendship and immediately going off on adventures with each other. i hadn’t realised there were romantic implications until my friend brought it up to me and i remember being lowkey upset about it haha. now though, i really do like the idea of friends with benefits/relationship for all the wrong reasons between the both of them because it really opens them up for so much character analysis. why rebound to each other? are they monogamous or is it extremely casual? why does q say he left vash when vash seems to think she left him? is he lying? why did she leave him? why was q so desperate to keep vash with him in q-less? does it have anything to do with his deal with picard? etc etc . in my head i have an animated miniseries about q and vash going on adventures with each other haha i started drawing more of this idea out and was even thinking about making a fake pitch bible (which i’ll probably end up keeping to myself lol) also maybe something about tng picard talking to stp q … who knows

jacques is such a little tragic character because his parents are. them. younger jacques takes after q so i reckon picard has to deal with two different entities who both desperately want his attention lolol

Its weird that as a writer I keep some stories to myself.  I’ve talked about little characters I’ve made up before.  Like the shadow character OC that would of existed in My Hero Academia universe.  I explained it generally but actually I day dreamed an extremely detailed story about that character (honestly its pretty fucking R rated so I’m never writing it down).  All my little day dreams have like detailed stories that play in my head.  

I don’t know.  I never got like big into writing fanfictions or AUs or whatever.  Surprisingly all my stories are original.  But I still day dream like fan content into my own brain. 

Like in the midst of my early morning about to wake up ease dropping on my brain.  I was having a dream, than a dream about a cosplayer realizing her boyfriends kink by dressing up as Maki Zenin from Jujutsu Kaisen, than another dream.  I woke up like “why the fuck was there 30 seconds of that in my brain while I was dreaming????”.

My brain just drifts away while I’m asleep or awake.  I could be sitting down or driving my fucking car.  I just drift into a fucking story in my brain.  I can’t like stop it from starting but I can pull myself out when I want to.  I can start them when I want to too but like most the time my brain is like “lol bored making up a 300 year history of a made up kingdom for the next 5 minutes”. 

And I’m just like....

Honestly its probably why I’ve loved sports games so much since I was a kid till right now as I play a sports game while writing this.  I think of weird funny little stories about what’s happening in my game as I’m playing.  I play franchise/association modes so I’ll be playing a decade+ of a team’s lifespan creating little sports stories in my head.  

I remember one year I was tired of my players getting hit hard so I put in my big running back to “punish” teams all season to wear them down so my star players could get more room.  

I could try and write down all my little day dreams.  

But often I feel like I day dream so much because I don’t really experience my dreams.  And dreaming is supposed to help you deal with your like life problems and come to terms with things.  So when I day dream I’ll just be randomly trying to come to terms with my life.  

SCENARIOS

ALL THE GOD DAMN SCENARIOS. 

They just pop in my head. 

What would happen if this happened.

What if they showed up. 

What if this person disappeared.

What if I died.

What if my family had a real problem.

What if someone tried to rob me.

What if my car broke down.

What if there was a fire right now. 

What if I wrote a book.

And like these long drawn out storylines play out inside my head till I snap out of it. 

Like simple one.  What if I wrote a book.  Oh no no no.  Not just the book.  Not the simple shit.  My fucking brain imagines the what the book is about.  The publishing people I deal with.  The conversations I have with my family about it.  Random questions strangers ask me about the book.  EVEN FOLLOW UP WITH THE PUBLISHER ABOUT WRITING ANOTHER BOOK AND MY BRAIN STARTS TO BRAINSTORM WHAT THAT BOOK WOULD BE ABOUT.  I LIVE A LIFE.  I GET MARRIED.  I OWN A HOUSE.  I IMAGINE MYSELF SITTING A TABLE LIVING COMFORTABLY BECAUSE THE FIRST BOOK SOLD WELL. 

My brain just feeds me these scenes one after another.  

I know its kind of sad.  

But like.

I’d much rather dream like a normal person than have a brain that works this way.

I’d much rather not have the experiences I’ve had that turned me into a writer. 

I’d much rather dream normally, not write, and just see a therapist twice a month. 

I wonder what my life would be like with a normal brain.

Ive crocheted 4 hats now!!! Technically 4.5 but im thinking about unraveling that one anyway bc like. It's expensive, soft, nice yarn and idk i want to do smth Special w it, or smth. Uhh and now im like. I want to try to actually make smth off a Pattern (bc so far ive been just following youtube video tutorials) and id like to do smth pretty and fancier etc. Unfortunately i uhhhh struggle to read crochet patterns and understand them and i get overwhelmed very quickly by them and give up. I have one in mind i want to try again later today thats like a pretty lacey shawl and i think i have enough of this one yarn to do it? We will see.

I also want to try other things and bigger things. But im begrudgingly realizing i dont actually have enough of any one type of yarn to do a lot of projects? Grumpy about that lol. Also, trying to keep myself in check and recognizing that im feeling way too ambitious about some things lol. I should try new things and step out of my comfort zone and try to make things, yes, but i need to be realistic and try to tackle no more than like 2 projects at a time i think bc ill get overwhelmed prolly?

...also i think i need to get a yarn needle, or check the sewing kit we have and see if there's one in there? Ive been getting by on projects that use one without one but like thats getting more and more intimidating

OH ALSO i had a bundle or whatever of soft, pretty, expensive, 100% alpaca wool yarn that got super tangled earlier this yr and i was beginning to think the only way id get it untangled was if i CUT it which i didn't want to do but GUESS! What i did last night. I fucking got it, i untangled it, im so proud of me. Nice. Semi related but ive been thinking about unraveling some of the things ive made out of the alpaca wool i have bc like...like i wasted all this nice pretty soft yarn on a useless hyperbolic crochet. Its very pretty and soft and it was good practice and i dont regret making it but i do regret fastening it off and now not being able to use that yarn to make smth pretty and soft and nice thats for me that i can WEAR, yknow?

Also the first scarf i made, id. Id like to undo it i think and use the yarn for smth else if i can bc even tho im glad i finished it and made it and got all that practice, and i dont regret making it, i do think its hideous and i dont think im ever gonna wear it. And also i regret that it went in the washing machine and then mistakenly got put into the tumble dryer and now its kinda like..felted i think is the term? So im wondering if its even possible to undo that and salvage the yarn for something Else? (Does anyone know? If i can undo an alpaca wool crochet project that got a little felted from one run in the dryer and salvage the yarn?)

Joker: “yolo” in its most dangerous form, def is writing a slow burn enemies to loves fic about him and Batman. Gay and homophobic 💯 The other rogues don’t invite him to pride celebrations anymore cause he’ll keep calling people slurs “as a joke”. Him and Edward have longterm beef, like schoolgirl levels of petty drama.

Harley Quinn: would describe herself as a “girlboss” unironically while committing heinous crimes. tweeted “clowns aren’t funny” after breaking up with Joker (ended up causing a huge scandal). The OG “I can fix him” girl. Is sort of the rogues free underground therapist (god knows they need it) cause they can’t get professional help without being sent to Arkham.

Poison Ivy: Breaking News: Cottagecore lesbian commits mass murder cause her plant wilted. She’s what republicans think environmentalists are. Would get in a fist fight with that vegan teacher cause “plants have feelings too”. Has beef with most of the male rogues, supports ‘kill all men’ without realizing it’s a joke (she prefers ‘kill all humans’ but figured she had to downgrade because the Gotham city sirens are humans technically).

Cat Woman: “OH NO! It appears I’ve gotten stuck backwards in the bank vault step-Bat 😏😏😏😏😏😏, looks like I’m not stealing any more diamonds today 😰😩”. Mad respect for Selina, she just wants diamonds and bat dick, no tragic backstory or complex motivations needed. I personally like to headcanon her as wearing a straight up cat costume (ears and a tail like a true furry) cause it’s way funnier to imagine a sophisticated rich woman dressing up as a cat to steal shit than whatever bullshit DCs up to these days. Trans catgirl supremacy 💎👍

Scarecrow: That one guy who gets angry at people because “Halloween costumes are meant to be scary 🤬😡😑😒”. Doesn’t even attempt to express emotions, is the human embodiement of this emoji: 😐. His presence is more jarring than threatening, his intimidation levels are somehow underwhelming and overwhelming at the same time. The other rogues have collectively decided that he’s asexual under no assumption other than that they don’t want to imagine Jonathan having sex. Overtime Jonathan has become basically fearless (he smokes his own fear gas like vape just to feel something). Jonathan and Harley became good friends when they both worked in Arkham, their dynamic is surprisingly wholesome.

The Riddler: Didn’t get hugged enough as a child and is now making it everyone’s problem. Would hold a bank hostage to show Batman his third grade spelling bee medal. Is the only autistic rogue that gets accommodations in Arkham because he won’t stop bugging the guards. FTM trans ofc (his names Edward Nygma for Christ's sake). He ran away from home at seventeen and faked his own death (his deadname is legally dead lmao). Uses the terms “alpha, beta, and omega male” unironically.

Two Face: “Yeah, I mean, I didn’t wanna blow up the orphanage either, but Y’know the coin said-” The other rogues talk to Harvey as if he’s constantly at his breaking point, which is half true. Harv is a stone cold mf, he’s the rock that’s holding Two Face together tbh. Edward calls Harvey and Harv Jekyll and Hyde cause he’s that original. All the rogues have at least a sneaking suspicion that Bruce Wayne is batman and use Harvey as their little primary source (being ex besties and everything), until they find out Selina and Bruce are a thing of course. No matter how much evidence he’s faced with Harvey will never accept Bruce Wayne is batmam, he’s not ready to consider that one of the only positive people in his life has been duking it out with him this whole time.

Penguin: He’s the rest of the rogues chill gay gangster uncle I don’t make the rules. The iceberg lounge is like the Batman villain equivalent of The Central Perk from friends (aka: its their default place to hangout). Oswald always makes a fuss about them not making reservations ahead of them but at this point it’s just performative. Everyone’s 99% sure Oswald and Edward fucked at some point (Edward always makes a show of flustering Oswald when he needs a loan). Ossie always takes care of the others belongings when they’re in Arkham (he has a special place in his heart for Jonathan‘s crows).

The Mad Hatter: I love Jervis lmao he just really likes Alice in Wonderland and that’s a valid ass villain motivation 👍. One of the smartest rogues but doesn’t get enough credit because of how childish he is. He dresses in kids clothes, not just because he wants to but because he’s small af and can’t fit in shit. In public while the rogues are undercover Jervis usually wears a beanie or a baseball cap (he’d get spotted instantly if he wore his usual, but on bad days Jervis can’t bear to be without a hat). Jonathan and Jervis play chess a lot together in Arkham, and frequently engage in intellectual discussion, Edward tends to be a piss baby when Jon encourages him to do the same, he’s not ready to accept the reality that Jervis can match his intelligence.

Killer Croc: Waylon has a surprising amount in common with Jonathan, they share southern solidarity. He doesn’t travel out of the sewer often so the rogues will occasionally come to visit Waylon there (Edward always makes sure to complain loudly about the smell). Will show immense affection and loyalty to anyone who treats him as human (poor guy just needs a friend ☹️).

Mr Freeze: Literally just dead inside, someone give this poor bastard a hug. Victor stands as the most awkward rogue, he‘s sorta like the odd one out. The other rogues don’t interact with him that often because he’s sort of a party pooper. He’s the straight friend on thin ice, haha get it. Mr Freeze is my sisters favorite Batman villain because she thought the ice puns were funny in Batman in Robin, little does she know I’m embarrassing myself on tumblr in her glory.

Music Meister: So many of the Gotham rogues have horrible childhood trauma and Music Meister is just like “people bullied me for being a theater kid 😩😭💔😔”. In all honesty he’s iconic, in my au universe thingy I have him join the dork squad latter on and he sticks out like a sore thumb for a bit. I feel like him and Jervis would really hit it off though (mind control buddies, ha), although Jervis would always get him to sing Alice in Wonderland songs. In Arkham they have him wear a dog collar thingy and zap him when he sings, he gets bullied for that lol. anyways I’m sure I could make more of these, but it’s 2:20 am and my mind went blank.
