As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

A few days ago, in my quest to fight the antisemitism that lifted its head around the world following the massacre of October 7th, I stumbled upon a clip from a UN assembly where the speaker asked a simple question-

Dear Arab world, where are your Jews?

A lot of people think that Israeli roots come from Europe exclusively. But in fact, Jewish people were hunted in all corners of this world. In Europe, of course, but also in Asia, Africa and other places all over the planet.

My grandma is an Iraqi Jew. Iraqi Jewish community is one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world, being the direct descendants of the Babylonian exile Jews, so ancient it is an exile mentioned in the Bible.

Recent studies, in which DNA retrieved from canaanite burial lands was compared to current populations in the area of ancient Canaan, has found that Iraqi Jews share the highest similarity to canaanite DNA out of all Jewish communities, more than 50% of the DNA on average.

All the beautiful, peaceful Jewish communities of the Arab world were wiped out in the blink of an eye.

The Arabic world has never treated their Jewish communities as equal citizens, oftentimes robbing them of any rights and performing violent acts of genocide against them (check 'Farhud' on Google).

But their voice was silenced once they fled to Israel.

So I decided to recap my grandma's story in the comments of the clip:

Soon after, many Jewish people with Arabic, or 'Mizrahi' heritage, shared their stories as well:

Jewish people all over the planet were driven out of their homes, ethnically cleansed by their neighbors, rulers, and governments.

We are still not welcome in most of the countries of the Arab world. Unable to see glimpses of our history.

My grandma still wishes she could see the house she grew up in. Holding the memories, but unable to set foot in that land, because she would be executed.

Nevertheless, she's not a refugee. She might've fled to Israel, but in Israel, her family got equal rights as citizens, and she built a house on a land she now calls her home.

Don't erase my grandma's story. Don't erase the Jewish ethnic cleansing that brought her to seek a safe haven in Israel.

Israel is a home for more than half of the Jewish people on this planet. Out of the ~8,000,000 Jews who live in Israel, there are about ~2,500,000 Jews of Mizrahi heritage.

And as Golda Meir once said: "our secret weapon is that we have nowhere else to go."

i think the thing that gets me the most about the plot of Court of the Dead as announced so far is, like TSATS it... has no reason to be the plot? Except even less so this time. Cause TSATS was at least slightly different from the plot point it was repeating ("Tartarus Adventure™", but CotD is entirely centered on... a fact of the franchise that has existed at least as early as Sea of Monsters.

"Some monsters are choosing not to be evil!" You mean. the entire central plot of Sea of Monsters? That one? That Tyson is not evil and not all monsters are out to kill demigods and Annabeth needed to get over her internalized ableism prejudice against cyclopes and Percy help Tyson to be accepted at CHB? A theme that is repeated throughout the series ad nauseam? The absolute plethora of allied monsters? The camp harpies? The Party Ponies? Mrs. O'Leary? Briares? All of Percy's cyclops half-siblings who live with Poseidon? Ella? The literal entire peaceful monster population of Camp Jupiter explicitly established since the first time we saw Camp Jupiter? And that Rick clearly did not forget about, cause he referenced it throughout the entirety of HoO and then also prominently in Tyrant's Tomb, including establishing that as being part of why Tyson and Ella live there now!!!!

Heck, that's even also half the plot of TSATS. What do you MEAN "Omg monsters are choosing to be good now!" like it's news??? That's the ENTIRE FRANCHISE...

So, I know that Drusilla knowing about the sex trafficking of victors makes some think that Effie would know about it as well, but i just really don't think that is the case or that Suzanne wrote her character with the intention of that.

Hear me out; I somewhat hate that Suzanne even wrote Drusilla knowing about it in the first place because the way Katniss says Finnick describes it, makes it seem like Snow was only selling him to high standing citizens (I assume to not "overwork" him, however it could have been more that he was saying the people who he received secrets from where high standing) and that it wasn't common knowledge for everyone in the Capitol (as Katniss seems to imply that shock will settle over the Capitol, but she is an unreliable narrator, so it's unclear).

I assumed Drusilla knew about it because she's an escort (ironic, it being called that), but I don't think that's enough. Because I doubt Snow would actually like the escorts knowing about that because they do get somewhat close to the tributes and are more likely to sympathize with them (unless they're Drusilla). And it seems that the chaperones are still just average citizens of the Capitol.

Effie said nothing to imply she knew that, sure, she could have said nothing out of fear, but she seems far more aloof than that. More naive. And, sure, her support for the Capitol could have also been out of fear, but again, she seems like she's just been more brainwashed than anything. No, that doesn't justify her flaws, but it's just a point to consider.

Also, don't you think Haymitch would have a complete disgust of her if she did and still supported the Capitol? Not stood up for her a few times in the novel?

Idk. It kind of threw me off that Drusilla knew at all, but that could be for a number of reasons and factors. I also assumed the trafficking happened later in the Game's history as more and more tributes' teams saw how much 'sex appeal' can make someone sponsor one of them. Maybe around the 60th, but it is believable for it to be the 50th.

Still, Drusilla knowing doesn't necessarily imply or prove that Effie knew about it. There's a lot of reasons to dislike Effie, a lot of justifiable ones, but those at least have proof to them. This point just doesn't.

On a different note from my usual vein, I forget sometimes how much of a badass Xie Lian is! He's honestly a lot colder and more practical than we give him credit for. His last two shits died along with his will to live. He will do what it takes to win, honorable or no. Like, I forget a lot that he ascended due to his martial talent you know? But then again, I think he expends a lot of effort trying to bury that aspect of himself as well. He loves swords, and yet we hardly ever see him use one, because he's sworn off killing with them.

"You must understand that the moment a sword is unsheathed, someone will be hurt. When force is released, something must receive it."

Hearing those words from him after the massacre reveal!? After he calmly states that if Lang Qianqiu fights him, Xie Lian will kill him?!! He is achingly aware of how easy it is to hurt people, particularly himself. We rarely see him attack people, he's always so considerate of the potential collateral damage. When Xie Lian accidentally grips Shi Qingxuan too hard as they're fleeing paradise manor, and it scares him?!!

Xie Lian is a lot more cold than we give him credit for, and it makes sense with how he gets along with Hua Cheng.

I think it's really interesting how people try to say that Saiura is a much better ship than Saiteru...because their only reasoning is that "they're soulmates" yet we never got a full elaboration on what soulmates could define for Aiura.

And even then, Saiki and Aiura are not close, even aiura herself doesn't consider to be friends with Saiki and claims that "we end up being more like strangers" when talking about her and Saiki. They never talk, and all Aiura does is try to corner him every time, to which Saiki is uncomfortable with and annoyed by reasonably too.

Aiura has a very wrong and flawed perspective on who Saiki really is. She literally assumes he's some sadistic guy playing hard to get.. or whatever her words were, she thinks that he would enjoy sexual things (he would not 😭) because all she's doing is that she's projecting on to him. Lied about her and Saiki dating and doing..... things to which made Saiki uncomfortable and awkward visibly. Idek what to call this.

Did not want mention this either but in the manga, she tried to SA saiki, with some so called "lucky feel moment" (when two people get into a inherently sexual situation, one knowing and one not knowing of this.) That's literally weird AF.

Anyways....

She has no idea or concept on who Saiki is. It's so far off from him that it's an entirely new person. Not to mention, she does not like Saiki at all romantically, though. The only thing that has her invested with him is that he might be "Sadistic", oh Aiura... 😭...

It proves further on that she has never had feelings romantically at all and still does not, she is only "fascinated " with this idea of Saiki.

We also need to talk about how uncomfortable saiki is from aiura by a lot. She doesn't respect his boundaries at all, thinks knowing his secret is something she owns

(I'm pretty sure her and Toritsuka also thought this, which is odd because what?)

and tries to use to her advantage, tried to make saiki do some weird favor (obviously inappropriate implications to which Saiki said no to immediately before she could add anything).

and is very selfish and pushy about saiki 😭 yet she calls saiki selfish?

this is what I'm talking about. She still doesn't understand saiki and still has a five hundred million perspective on who saiki is. That shouldn't be good in a relationship.

Ship them all you want, but the chemistry is absolutely nowhere

Although yes, they have some good moments, I can not see this going further romantically. Friendship, yes, anything else, NO!

Underrated opinion, but Saiki x Mera is better than this ship. I'm just saying.... I think Mera and Saiki are very cute and wished for more interactions with them. Obviously, Saiteru is much better than this as well from Teruhashi's side.
