You wouldn't believe how long Leon has had this one tucked away. Until recently, it had been virtually collecting dust on her procreate app without anyone to admire its craftsmanship. I now have the grand privilege of posting it to our wonderful chaos site 😁 I think you'll all really enjoy the Domino Twins in this 10 panel story! K, that's all, see ya later👋

I'm so mad that post was misinformation because there is actually an EXTREMELY important conversation to have about the production schedules artists are forced into. There's no need for exaggeration, the conditions are bad.
I work for webtoon. My publication schedule is weekly. While publishing I'm required 10-15 pages a week. Fully colored.
This means I'm finishing a 150 page fully colored graphic novel every 10-15 weeks.
When my comic is not updating, I am not getting paid. Any time writing, editing, or off is out of my own pocket. I don't get healthcare. They do not provide any assistants. They expect me to promote myself; they chose to deprioritize me before I even launched and gave me an end date half a year in. I never had a chance.
And this is the industry standard! Every company has artists forced into crunch hours, overtime, and burnout. Artists are literally dying early due to it. So many of my friends can't afford to go to the doctor.
It's unsustainable and untenable, and it's also the expectation our audiences have.
If we want to have this conversation, there's plenty of conversation to be had with the realities of the situation. It's bad as is.

The funniest moment in 3x07 is when Mabel has a breakthrough with the case, and starts pacing as she's theorising, walking away from Theo - who makes this face -

This is the 1000 yard stare of a man who has accepted the fact that Mabel will always keep forgetting that he's deaf.

while on the topic of iron posting. a very small very insignificant thing that i really enjoy is that nobody really harasses it for not speaking. and like. we don't know precisely why it doesn't speak. it could be because it's mute, it could be due to an unseen injury, it could just be a selective choice, it could be that it never bothered to learn human language to begin with, etc etc. but there's never been a scene (at least as far as i can recall) where mr iron is specifically called out or pressured or anything of the sort. not even by its own haters 4 haters coworkers. and yeah this is realistically probably because its an ESPECIALLY deadly space bat that could kill you six ways from sunday if you pissed it off, but also, y'know, sometimes it's really nice just having a mute character that's treated Normally for once

One thing I truly adore about Palia is the polyamory and general queerness. It's so nice that we can romance everyone so we don't miss any plots or items, but also its nice as a poly-queer person to see some representation in a game.
There is no jealousy. There is no hateful or painful breakups (as I understand it, if you break-up it is not mentioned and you restart the romance plot-line). No one makes negative comments about two pins or switching out pins.
It's so nice to see positive rep in a game and honestly such a breath of fresh air.

the company i work for decided that its switching from the german formal "You"(Sie) to the informal "you" (Du) in all of our websites so now we have to scour the entire database to change it and i quite frankly hate that, not just bc the unecessary extra work but especially bc its such a weird and unecessary change
i bet its bc everything here is getting englishfied (both literally and culturally it feels like, when my new boss talks its half in english bc every second german word is just replaced by an english one despite there being perfectly fine words for it in german too, its so annoying) and bc they want to sound more personal in hopes of getting more clients bc 'company is your fwiend uwu!!', i know this here is the amercian tm site so you wouldnt understand really but i do not want to be greeted with 'du' by companies, no, thats too personal, you dont know me and im not giving you my data, stay away!!
i guess thats how i would describe it .. the formal you is like a polite distance, like someone you dont know staying outside your personal space, but when its the informal 'you' it feels invasive unless i told you you can call me that, and that goes double for companies
maybe its a small thing that doesnt seem important but i cant stand it, im just a little part time worker doing data work so i got no say in it but the companies founder also announced hes giving his post to his kids some time ago so ...... since then theres been alot of changes and new projects that solely aim to imitate whats popular and whats done by other companies, despite ours being one that is, or used to be, intentionally different, like, that was the POINT, but i guess chasing trends is just too appealing for CEOs

Watching the dynamic between bonny and read vs stede and ed in s2 ep4 was such a rollercoaster cause it went from me thinking "oh no they're just like stede and ed but if they actually ran off to China together and had a loving happy relationship" to me getting further into the ep and thinking "oh no they're just like stede and ed but if they ran off to China together and their relationship turned fucked up and toxic cause that's what happens when two traumatized pirates run of to live in isolation with eachother on a whim".

i've spent a lot of the past 24 hours talking to various trans people in the fandom that reposted or dmed me about this video and i'm gonna yap here under the cut about it.
(i'm not a spokesperson for trans people obviously, and i don't mean to lead these discussions. i know i've had a lot of them recently but yeah it's been rough, i just thought this was interesting to share and can hopefully share a lil of how people are feeling.)
i've always assumed that the hate that i've received on my account was because of me? i post videos talking about discourses, i'm open about ships i like that are generally hated, etc etc, i've just assumed it was a me thing.
but then when people are mad about those things, it more often than not comes to slurs. it's come to people debating my identity, questioning how much of a man i am when i wear makeup, posting me on reddit pages, throwing the words tranny and "she-man" around farrr too much, and i thought "isn't it heartbreaking that this is their first thought?"
so it gradually became less about me as an individual, and instead my identity. and just that these people are mean.
and i made that video from the perspective of someone who's already upset. who's had a lot of stuff like this happen and is Sad about it.
but i've spoken to 47 trans people that reached out to me themselves about this, and have so many more requests to get through, and not one has said that they feel safe and comfortable in this space. not a single one.
so i thought i'd share some of the things that were said (with permission and anonymously) because i think it's quite interesting to see what the issues are:
the MOST mentions goes toooo: the discourse about male characters - namely sirius - wearing makeup and the way gender norms become the forefront of this - makes them feel as though people dislike "unconventional trans people" as one person put it.
alongside this, the hate for trans characters - namely regulus - and how people get very mad about it "reinforcing heterosexuality" - do not feel recognised as the gender they are, feel as though people are viewing trans people as "fake men or women" - quote.
discourses surrounding height, hair, 'gender presentations' etc - brought up by a lot of people and they recognised that this is coming from a good place (not reinforcing heterosexuality) but feel as though the amount of focus put on it is disproportionate to the presence of it. copy and pasted quote: "I'm a 5 foot 2 trans man and feel like less of a man because of it"
profitting jkr: (obviously, because that's what the video was about) i want to add that nearly everyone said that they understand the desire to, and were receptive of the fact you don't know what goes on behind the scenes re: donating elsewhere etc, but said that they've felt less safe since the surge of posts about the reboot.
guilt. which makes me glad that i posted about that here a few days ago because i felt alone in this. a lot of the people i spoke to feel guilty for being here, and feel as though they can't claim that this fandom is inclusive anymore.
comment sections: brought up by a handful of people who said that not enough people delete horrible comments on posts - one said "even if they argue against them it just feels worse than deleting it", another said "obvs i can't ask people to delete them on their own account but it does suck that they dont think to" - every person that brought up comment sections said that they tend not to look at them now which makes them feel like an outsider in the fandom.
cosplays: brought up by four people and feels relevant to above points about "gender presentation" - said that unless you're cosplaying sirius, they nearly always have to delete comments saying something along the lines of "xyz wouldn't wear makeup". all of them said that they just feel nice in it and never meant it in a bad way.
scared to be loud: scared to post, especially with face. a few acknowledged that they are scared to do so anyway, but worry about it in this space as well. bolded this one because it makes me so sad, but having been put on reddit pages for saying pete was their friend, i get it.
and the final point, a copy and pasted line: "i dont want to be represented when it suits them and i don't want to be a box they tick when adding diversity to a fic and then cry in comments. i dont want performative support"
ALSO ADDING HERE:
nearly everyone (bar 7 people) that reached out to me acknowledged that this is a minority, and not the majority. they were very clear that it isn't their whole experience, but is an issue regardless. a lot of focus was put on curating your own space and finding people who do support you, but algorithms don't always make that possible, and it's difficult seeing it happen even if they don't interact.
which is,,, yeah. that's the crux of it really. most of the time it's fine and it's lovely and things like this don't happen, but they still do, and how do you feel like you can engage when you don't know what side it will get on?
which,,, sucks. because there's not really anything anyone can do then. it's just screaming into a void and hoping that you don't end up on the wrong sides.
but anyway, i thought it was interesting. especially the comment sections and the headcanon discourse - which truly, i see less of on tumblr anyway but for all of the above reasons, don't fancy discussing this on tiktok right now which is the epicentre of it.
but yeah. food for thought perchance, and some very good discussions !! thank you to anyone that messaged me and allowed me to write this, you're not screaming into a void with me 🫶🏻

"be cringe and free!!" Ok but did you see the side eye I just got? Did you hear the laugh? Did you notice the mood shifted and everything got awkward? Did you see how they glanced at the other person as if wanting to find a way out? Hm? I've learned to read people and I wish I never had

Augusnippets Day 20: Homemade Meal
cw: implied past abuse, chronic pain
Penumbra Masterlist

By the time Cerus returned to the shared cottage at the edge of town, dusk had cooled the day to something pleasant. Often his work was complete long before sundown, but the village was readying for the midsummer festival, and he'd taken to staying later, assisting where he could with preparations.
How odd it was, to labor alongside others and not feel the shadow of resentment, hatred. To them, he was only another helper, a set of hands no one scolded or faulted or beat when his pains kept him slower than the rest.
Tansy was already home when he arrived, stirring a pot of something that made his mouth water with the smell of it.
“The hour’s late. What kept you?” It was more concern in their voice than anything accusing; the village had been kind to him, but they hadn't been here long. There was still the feeling that someone could decide he was no longer welcome here, and Tansy was still just as wary of it as he.
“I was helping the baker sort her lists. She has surprises at the ready for the festival.”
Tansy nodded, spooning broth into a bowl. “I did wonder who it would be today. The apothecary is still asking after you.”
Cerus carried dinner to the table one bowl after the other, cupping them in such a way it did not hurt his hands. The stew warmed his stiff fingers. “Tell her I am considering.”
“Still?”
He nodded, taking a seat and stirring at the golden broth. Soft grains and root vegetables swirled beneath its surface, along with something purplish he did not recognize.
“Is this a new recipe?”
“Maisy gave us some violet blush. It's a sort of wheat, I think.” They sat across from him. “Why are you still considering? You know healing.”
What did it matter what he knew? The people could never accept medicines from one who was a tyrant. Could they?
“It was long ago,” Cerus replied.
“You could learn again.”
“My hands won't allow for such fine work.” It was a partial truth. The healing arts he'd studied so long ago—before he was shaped into a king, before he lost everything—required precision. Even harvesting vegetables from the abbey garden was difficult on some days. Certainly he could shift his methods, help by studying and perfecting new remedies, or evaluating patients…
No. Even then, it could never be. The village would turn on him, accuse him of some wicked scheme. Why else would he seek to create new potions, to dabble in something near to alchemy? Why else would the shadow king help anyone?
“Cerus…”
He shook his head. “Their trust in me is fragile,” he said. “Who's to say they'll want me there?”
“Cerus, she asked for you. Someone already wants you there.”
“Why?” His mind insisted it was only a trap; a method to trick him into some crime or foul act, a way to remove the protection he'd been granted. But was that truth speaking, or only history?
“She's seen the interest in your eyes when you bring her herbs. And she knows you were given a king's education.”
“An education in death.”
They raised an eyebrow. “Among other things. She's been looking for a helper. Why not you?”
He could not deny a part of him wanted it. Could this not be good? He'd caused so much harm, was healing others not a form of penance?
“I am…” Afraid. “And what if I agree? Would the people accept remedies touched by me?”
Tansy sighed, taking their bowl to the washing basin. “I do not know. But they trust Phaedra, and she wants to trust you. Will you give her the chance?”
Cerus stared into his own half-eaten bowl. It did all come down to that; trust and chances. He could shy away from them, hide forever, or he could venture into the sun, take the risks, live, even if he still wasn't certain he deserved it.
Such a funny word.
“Perhaps I will,” Cerus said quietly. “Perhaps I will.”
