That is one wild looking flower! I planted this plant 8 years ago from a bare root and it did nothing but throw some leaves-until this year. Arum Italicum is poisonous and extremely toxic. It is proving to be a problem in parts of the US where it remains an evergreen all year round. Use caution if you plant it and never dispose in the compost.

Bug orgy discovered!

I have been completely shocked when I discovered that an outrageous sex orgy was taking place on my parsley! The totally shameless Striped bugs (Graphosoma italicum) were having group sex in plain sight and did not even stop once when I needed to photograph them for solely scientific reasons.

Arum italicum, EN: Italian Arum, NL: Italiaanse Aronskelk

My neighbor, who is really my great permaculture example, told me the name of this plant that has been in my garden as long as I know. It's Italian Arum! Despite the fact that it's pretty poisonous I love it bc it grows in the most shaded areas of my garden where basically nothing else seems to take root. It has big green leafs and after it flowers in spring all the leaves fall off and just this funny stick with berries remain.

Italian Arum is also a special kind of exotic in the Netherlands: it's a 'stinsenplant', a kind of plant that was - a really long time ago - grown and planted in decorative gardens, especially around churches and castles. Stinsenplanten often were imported from more southern countries and bloom in spring with beautiful flowers. What are now called stinsenplanten are those that turned out to do just fine on their own here and now also grow in the wild. The list of stinsenplanten actually encompasses quite some plants that are now very common in the Netherlands, such as the crocus, snowdrop and wild garlic.

4 - Les 4 huiles essentielles indispensables pour te soigner au quotidien

Les huiles essentielles, les hydrolats, les eaux florales…

En te renseignant bien, tu peux trouver des huiles essentielles très efficaces et polyvalentes.

Pour éviter de me perdre, je suis parti des propriétés qui m’intéressaient, à savoir : désinfection, cicatrisation et antidouleur.

Résultat, j’ai sélectionné 4 huiles essentielles (HE).

J’ai un exemplaire de chaque dans ma trousse à pharmacie.

1 - L’Immortelle ou Hélichryse italienne (Helichrysum italicum)

L’HE d’Hélichryse italienne est rare et chère…

Mais elle est polyvalente et très efficace, une petite quantité suffit pour faire effet, alors ça vaut le coup !

Cette HE est anti-inflammatoire, antalgique (antidouleur), anti-traumatique, anti-hématomes, cicatrisante, etc.

C’est un peu l’arnica de l’aromathérapie, mais en plus puissant, elle est surnommée “l’huile du boxeur”.

Sur un bleu ou une bosse (après un coup) -> applique quelques gouttes pures sur la zone et masse, 4 à 5 fois par jour.

Sur une entorse -> 3 gouttes pures, 1 fois par jour, jusqu’à disparition de l’entorse (tu peux aussi poser de l’argile par-dessus).

Sur une coupure -> 1 goutte pure sur la plaie, 3 fois par jour.

2 - La Lavande aspic (Lavandula latifolia)

L’HE de Lavande aspic est une anti-infectieuse globale, antalgique, stimulante immunitaire et à la fois tonifiante et calmante.

Tu peux l’utiliser sur tes ampoules, plaies, ulcères, escarres, brûlures superficielles, piqûres, etc.

Sur une piqûre (insectes, vives, méduses, serpents…) -> 1 goutte pure, à renouveler si nécessaire, pour calmer la douleur.

Sur une brûlure superficielle -> 1 à 5 gouttes pures toutes les 15 minutes au début, puis 3 fois par jour.

Sur un coup de soleil -> dilue l’HE de Lavande dans une huile végétale (avec un ratio d’1 goutte d’HE pour 4 gouttes d’huile végétale) et applique.

3 - L'arbre à thé ou Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia)

L’HE de Tea tree a des propriétés anti-infectieuses, antivirales, immuno-stimulantes et tonifiantes.

Grossièrement, elle est anti-infection et anti-fatigue.

Tu peux l’utiliser pour soigner tes aphtes, abcès, rhumes, sinusites, symptômes grippaux, etc.

Mais si je m’y intéresse, c’est surtout pour soigner les plaies.

Les propriétés cicatrisantes de l’HE de Tea Tree sont impressionnantes !

L’Hélichryse et la Lavande aspic fonctionnent aussi, mais la Tea Tree est incomparable.

Sur une plaie -> applique 1 goutte pure, 3 fois par jour, jusqu’à cicatrisation.

4 - L’huile essentielle de Ravintsara (Cinnamomum camphora)

La dernière de la liste, c’est l’HE de Ravintsara.

Elle est assez connue et comme le Tea Tree elle a des propriétés antivirales puissantes, antiseptiques, antibactériennes et anti-inflammatoires.

C’est l’huile que ma grand-mère et ma mère me faisaient toujours inhaler lorsque j’avais le nez et les bronches complètement pris.

Aujourd’hui, je l’utilise pour soigner toutes les petites affections hivernales, rhume, grippe, angine, toux…

Sur un mouchoir -> Place quelques gouttes sur un mouchoir (propre) et respire pendant quelques minutes.

En inhalation -> Dilue quelques gouttes dans de l’eau chaude et respire les vapeurs.

Comment les choisir et où les acheter ?

Pour les flacons classiques de 10 mL, bio, compte environ :

8 € pour le Tea Tree ;

9 € pour la Lavande aspice ;

11 € pour le Ravintsara ;

35 € pour l’Hélichryse.

Bien stockées, à l’abri de la lumière et au frais, ces huiles se conservent 3 à 5 ans sans problème (sauf pour le Tea tree, qui se garde environ 2 ans).

Tu peux les trouver en pharmacie, en magasin bio et dans certains supermarchés.

Pour être sûr de la qualité, choisis des huiles :

obtenues à partir d’une distillation à la vapeur d’eau uniquement (important) ;

avec l'appellation “100 % naturelle”, “100% pure” ou “100% intégrale” ;

labellisées bio ou Demeter plus HEBBD ou HECT.

Exemple :

Si tu veux vérifier toi-même leur pureté, tu poses une goutte d’HE sur une feuille de papier et tu laisses sécher plusieurs minutes.

Si tout s’évapore, elle est pure, s’il reste une tache grasse, il y a des ajouts (sans doute une huile végétale).

The tuberous perennial Arum italicum subsp. italicum 'Marmoratum' (Italian arum) has these stunning arrow-shaped dark, glossy green leaves veined creamy-white which appear in the autumn and persist through the winter. Large greenish-yellow spathes with a yellow spadix are produced in summer followed by showy spikes of orange-red berries. Note that this plant is toxic if eaten and is a skin or eye irritant, so it is best to wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling it.

here's a very pretty Ectophasia for those who need more tachinids in their life (everyone). in an already very recognizable family, these are some of the flashiest, and thankfully very calm as well

these flies and their relatives are conspicuous parasitoids of hemipterans. the breath mints at the base of this Graphosoma italicum's wings are tachinid eggs just like the one our blonde protagonist once came out of

Large Cuckoo Pint (Arum italicum) with beautiful variegated foliage. A shade loving plant, common among hedgerows and woodland. In the UK there are two species: Arum maculatum (green leaves with some black/dark purple markings) and Arum italicum - this one - which has green and white variegated leaves.

Lots of excellent folk names for this one: snakeshead, adder root, arum, wild arum, arum lily, lords-and-ladies, devils and angels, cows and bulls, starch-root, wake robin, jack in the pulpit and more.

And entirely poisonous.

Bumblebees are foraging.

This pigeon is foraging so hard, it didn't even mind people walking right past it.

Italian striped bugs (Graphosoma italicum) are procreating. Rare to find one without its butt attached to someone.

Like those two. But I bet at least one of them is trying.

Hornets are relentless - always on the prowl, barely stopping for a second. I was actually surprised this one stopped to rest and rub her face long enough for me to zoom in and snap a few shots.
