The meta with Seohyun recently is to say that she's secretly a freak, and while I also like that idea, I feel like it might not be as true as some people make it out to be? Seohyun would be #3 in terms of conservative-ness - she still seems to be living a pretty prim-and-proper life, even saying in the most recent episode of 'Face Talk' with Tiffany that she wants her partner to be living as well as she is. She even admits that this is a high standard, but she confesses that she does, in fact, have high standards.

Just because she's #3, doesn't mean she wouldn't be down to send spicy stuff over at all. I feel like there would probably be a pretty big gap between her and Sooyoung, even though they're one placement apart. TL;DR: multiple people can arrive at the same fanfic idea/premise in different ways, but also, getting inspired by a different fanfic is not stealing, please don't gatekeep!

I joined a new fandom (it's Resident Evil (RE), which I'm mostly mentioning for that one 'nosy' anon because hell yeah I am super nosy as well, so here you go, dropping some names!), and I quickly stumbled upon one fandom-specific plot trope that I thought was both pretty neat but also super obvious (Infected!Character fic, which, in a world with zombies and viruses that cause zombies is a very logical trope).

Anyway, there was not quite as much body horror as I thought there would be, although I'm still looking, but that's not why I'm writing to you, that's just the (un)necessary background.

There was this one fic that I opened, which in its Author's Note clearly stated that the author set this fanfiction in another author's AU, because they loved the world created by this first author. The first fanfiction author basically came up with their own Infected!Character design and backstory (including fanart), and the second fanfiction author liked it so much they were now writing this fic based on/in that AU. Obviously not quoting the AN directly, but this second author was very complimentary and explicitly mentioned where they got the idea from, gushing about the first author.

In the AN for chapter two, the second author stated that they weren't aware that that first fanfiction author didn't allow others to write about the Infected!Character AU they'd made, that that first author in fact only allowed a very limited number of people they publicly approved of to write about their AU, and nobody else was allowed to touch the Infected!Character AU. This second author was now apologising in the AN for not knowing this, plus mentioning that they changed chapter one to switch up the backstory & design to not be too close to that of the first fanficton author's AU.

That made me sad, honestly. I've seen this attitude a couple of times, where fanfiction authors are super protective of their ideas that they won't allow any other fanfiction author to write about them, and it's always struck me as a little bit hypocritical, given the whole deal of fanfiction. Especially when the original/first fanfiction author is credited and the inspired work is clearly done because the second author loved the first fanfiction so much. If it's a highly developed/specific and original AU (so not just any common trope), and you don't even mention the fanfic you were inspired by, then I find that rude, but just flat out not allowing people to even touch 'your' thing? C'mon!

This partially ties into my other gripe about a specific type of comments I occasionally get, which are along the lines of 'huh interesting idea where did you get it? bc/btw there is this other fic with the same idea (posted before you)'; idk if I got the tone right, but they never seem to be actually genuinely asking how I got the idea (and I always delight in telling them, not sarcastically, I genuinely love talking about this stuff, bc I get inspired by the most random things and I love love writing 'original'/new things!! I love tropes as much as anybody, I read a shitton of them, but i when I write I love coming up with new shit/plot! it's so fun!!). They just vanish after my explanation, even when I try to invite further conversation. It always feels to me like they're 'checking' that I didn't steal the idea, and it feels a bit lousy.

I mean in (larger) fandoms, it is not surprising at all that two or three or even more people arrive at the same idea, maybe even inspired by the same thing, same reading of canon, or not, varied experiences--and just because the works are similar doesn't mean that they were inspired by one another, but if they are, that's not a sin! I just want people to not take everything in bad faith, and also, to not 'disallow' others from getting inspired, especially when they do it in a very polite manner!

It's because of comments like these that I sometimes, very privately, worry that before I'll manage to post the long fic I spent months writing--because I'm one of those who wants the thing finished before I start posting--somebody else will have a similar idea, post their thing first, and then I'll look like I'm lying about not reading/stealing their idea, or just jumping on the bandwagon, which again, it's not a bad thing, actually.

And it shouldn't be like that! I shouldn't worry, and people should also be more willing to accept that authors can arrive at the same idea at (roughly) the same time & accept that explanation without side-eyeing the author, and that if an author is inspired by a different fanfic, that's not a sin either (in fact, for me it would be an honour).

None of this is new either, but that RE stuff reminded me of it again.

Anyway, I'm going to finish writing an Infected!Catboy!Leon fic now and be very unsurprised if I find out that somebody else has had the same idea long before me (aside from one or two reader fic inserts with that topic that I stumbled upon on tumblr, bc that's just not my thing at all (reader insert, I mean)).

1) How many works do you have on AO3?

26 — though 6 of those are unfinished WIPs (and only 2 that I plan on definitely finishing)

2) What’s your total AO3 word count?

384,397 — honestly a little shocked by that I could have written like 4 books for all that word count. But oh well it’s all skill building and I enjoy reading my writing back.

3) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

They are ALL from Carry On and written in like 2018 so the kudos is a reflection of time and the dropping of 2 sequels since posting them, not necessarily quality or anything. In fact the top by kudos was my first one when returning to fic and in hindsight it is not super well written.

Currently it’s mostly Fire Emblem because I got hooked again during my existential spiral over xmas. I wooooould like to write some more Dragon Age, but I am not an OC girly really. And I feel like DA fandom is big into OCs.

Most of my backlog is Carry On, but I analysed the text to shit and fell out of a love with it a bit.

5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes - on newer fics. I should reply to comments on older fics but idk my social anxiety tells me that if I respond to someone and didn’t respond to someone who commented on that thing a year prior - that second person will hate me. Which now that I type it out is insane.

I also did stop responding some time in like 2020-2021 for some reason? I’m not sure why but I sure think I’m an asshole for it.

6) What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

None of my fics have angsty endings. Not my MO sorry.

7) What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

All of my fics get like, half their word count again in epilogue so… they all end pretty happy.

But given the Carry On sequels and that most of my FE stuff is before the end of the war it’s probably Overdue Commitments since that is post war, getting married, etc. And thus the only one that actually takes place after all of the other shit characters have to go through in their actual canon. (Also recency bias)

8) Do you get hate on fics?

I mean one of them got book marked with this “The first chapters are perfect. The rest, not so much. Beware” which is a bit rude. But that’s my no3 by kudos as above so like… not exactly gonna keep me up at night.

9) Do you write smut?

Not often. When I do most of it doesn’t get finished and lives in my drafts. That said I recently dropped a 10k word smut fic that is probably gonna get a sequel because I got some nice comments. And I have a 25k smut fic, and an unfinished one too.

… so that’s probably actually just a yes.

10) Do you write crossovers?

No. Not against it though. I would love to do a The Locked Tomb/Dragon Age but I don’t think I have the writing style necessary to write TLT characters.

Not that I know of.

Maybe? I’ve had people offer and have said I’d be fine with it, but never actually followed up.

No, but I’m always down if someone’s into that stuff. Used to do a lot of RP, so I do like the collaborative stuff.

I honestly do not know. There are a lot I like but I don’t know if I could pin down an all-time fav. I’m sure I’ll wake up in a cold sweat to the obvious answer at like 3am though.

15) What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Putting In Effort because goooood I love Marihilda as a ship. But it really didn’t get much traction and Marianne is really hard to write like emotionally/mentally because she is so self-depreciating and depressed. It is not a fun headspace to spend your time in, particularly if no one is reading it.

16) What are your writing strengths?

I like the cadence I write with I think? The “know the rules and then break them” thing. Where my punctuation isn’t technically correct but it produces a certain rhythm in the text. Honestly I don’t even know if readers notice that.

Also I think maybe character voice? But that could be mere cowardice because I will not write a character I cannot hear clearly in my head.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

Brevity.

I tend to write everything blow by blow. Which can be great for fic romance. But when you need to GET THROUGH A DAMN SCENE??? Impossible. Why do I write everyone individually walking out the door? Must we put up this tent in excruciating detail?? We do not even need this scene. Send help.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

I think it’s cool when people do it but I wouldn’t put it in mine because I do not know any other languages. I would maybe make an exception for latin tho because it’s sick as hell and also dead.

19) First fandom you wrote for?

Artemis Fowl, on the fan website at like age 9.

Literally just went looking for it and got a massive blast from the past - but also the website doesn’t work because of a fatal MySQL error. Not that I’d expect to find my stuff there, that would have been like 15-20 years ago now.

20) Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

It’s still a WIP but probably Affection, just an all round comforting read for me. But again I suspect that’s recency bias. Also possibly the fact that it is a WIP and I don’t like endings.

Idk what to make of Harry when it comes to the people he surrounds himself with and his desire for more and more fame/love. He’s not the helpless victim some Larries think he is but he’s also not the manipulative villain Rads see him as. It’s impossible for anyone to tell what kind of situation he’s in and exactly who is pulling the strings and etc, but I think it’s clear that Harry doesn’t hate the Azoffs at all despite them being pieces of shits. He’s changed so much…I feel like he was at least fine in 2016-2018. But the past few years I’ve found him to be off putting, and I wonder why he continues to surround himself with super fake celebrities and business people. He doesn’t mind the fakeness of these A list events. Idc if i sound selfish or delusional, but this boy has been thru a lot from the industry and I don’t see why he’s sacrificing authenticity for success. Look at him while in the band/during HS1 vs now. I don’t even wanna go to his concerts because of his audiences. This type of stuff also makes it hard to imagine L&H together. I’m not talking about the fact that they have opposite images, that’s irrelevant to love. But i dunno, you see Louis not even being promoted by his own team and going indie and not being a fan of phoney industry stuff. Then you have Harry who’s 100% on board with playing the game. I wonder if there’s a long term plan for all this, like maybe he’s planning on making a lot of money for the management and himself so it’s stable for him to come out?

Harry isn’t the only one that’s rubbing me the wrong way though. Louis suddenly playing dad after years of pushing back against babygate is also a No from me. But with that situation, I can at least see where he’s going with it and that it hopefully won’t last much longer 🤷‍♀️

I agree with you, anon, as it is with so many things, the truth probably lies in between. I do believe the people you surround yourself with have a massive influence on your perception of the world (and obviously said people) and Harry had little choice when Jeff came into his life in 2013 about who’s surrounding him, and I do believe that Jeff is really good at manipulating and taking sugar. But harry is an adult now… the pandemic is what makes me a bit hopeful for the break now. Harry was forced to spend less time with all these leeches bc of covid and see what happened after? A harry who wasn’t very happy with Jeff. I think it’s soooo necessary for him to get out from under his supervision to recalibrate again. The way he’s confronted with his fame everyday on tour and how it’s being exploited by everyone can’t not fuck with your brain. okay as someone who has legit been bullied out of a fandom for my writing (not this one, Harry Styles) I do ACTUALLY feel qualified to talk about this:

you absolutely can and have the right to decide whether or not you want feedback/ what to do with it.

The ONLY feedback that you are morally REQUIRED to take whether you like it or not is if you accidentally write something racist/ bigoted, etc. (which....happens VERY RARELY) . Like if you accidentally did something like that and someone was like "hey thats not okay to say in a fic." thats the only time where you're wrong if you don't listen to feedback.

Other than that? tell people to fuck off.

If you're just doing it for fun, then as long as you are having fun you are doing it right. If other people also have fun reading what you write, great! tats even double the joy! If anyone comes across your work and doesn't like it, nobody is forcing them to read it, lol. the options are endless. they could browse for other fics.

Like a comment I constantly got on my Harry Styles stuff is that it was "dull" and "boring." But when I went back and looked at the fics that the hater anon said were boring, I saw that I wouldn't change them if I had the chance. I'd do them the same way all over again if I could. Cuz, in my mind, the level of detail I provided was necessary to the story. If they were not entertained by it, all they had to do was scroll away. But the kind of hateful energy that would compel someone to click on your profile, find the ask box, type out a mean message, and hit "send" without any regret....that tells me THEY are the ones with the problems, not me, lol.

In case anyone was wondering about the job situation:

They have a system for you personally to document your coworkers errors for QA. They tell you it's anonymous, but your manager and QA can see who reported the error and also every account leaves a note with your name in it when you look at it, so your coworker that you just errored, knows you're the one that got them a talking to. Also, our trainers just upfront said they use it to be petty over extremely little shit that they admitted weren't actual problems. They encouraged us to do the same. "It's a learning tool" then why are you using it for revenge? Hm?

There is a specific way we are supposed to phrase everything in the Slack chat and if we don't we can get in trouble. There are no templates or written guidelines for this. You're just supposed to idk ask your supervisor about your phrasing before posting questions. Which are time sensitive. Cuz you're on the phone. They want us to put this app on our personal phones despite the fact that QA said outright they have access to all of your shit the app has access to. DMs, download files, all that good shit.

That's also the place we go to publicly beg to take lunch. It's a fast moving chat tho, so the single manager present (who's fuckin around on their phone) might not even see.

They also listen in and watch your screen while you take calls. This includes having access to things said while the customer is on hold. It is up to QA whether they mark you down for calling someone a dumbass while they're on hold and can't hear it. People have been fired over this. I've worked in a call center before, this is not common. It usually just mutes your mic when the customer is on hold, cuz normal QA teams don't wanna listen to you mutter and beatbox while you look for stuff.

This is a call center. This is a call center for extremely low stakes calls. Why is there all of this "I saw Goodie Proctor leaving bad notes" shit? Why are you encouraging me to narc on my coworkers for small stuff that only got messed up cuz they're humans with lives? Fucking..... Cop behavior.

And don't even get me started on the fucking phone call rules. There's no script but there's very specific shit you have to say on specific types of calls. There's an AI the QA team uses to measure your tone also.

Calabrio doesn't think you sound happy enough? That's an error. Dead air? That's an error. A prolonged hold while you hop between the six different, necessary but half functioning, programs you need to look at to learn anything about what the customer's after? Oh baby thats an error. Did the call drop and you didn't publicly announce it in the Slack chat? Take a wild guess.

I am making less than a Wendy's employee in my state, and they're allowed to take smoke breaks. If I'm away from my phone for too long they start going through my shit to make sure I'm not goofing around.

Anyway, I'll be opening commissions soon cuz this is not tenable. Like I said, I've worked in a call center before this one. I've worked from home for almost four years now. i think this has made me realize my thoughts on AI art (writing, images… whatever) has much more to do with intention and much less to do with effort or soul or ownership or what have you.

like i FEEL a visceral repulsion from so much AI art i see centered in conversations like these, but i studied this issue in a philosophy class like a year and a half ago and still had trouble figuring out exactly where i stand. like i’ll say AI art bad but i don’t really know what i mean by that, and i’ve seen plenty of pro-AI art arguments — most of them taking the same route this comic is — that are very convincing. i learned everything from somewhere. like existence to a degree is derivative. so how can i say AI art automating that process is fucked up and evil if i do it myself all the time?

anyway i think what OP did that’s cemented things for me is specifically using the term “ownership.” not to be anti-capitalist BUUUT… ownership, copyright, all very capitalist ideas. we have to know who owns the thing and who is allowed to sell the thing so the Right people make money. it’s undeniable that modern society (at least that i’ve been exposed to idk idk) has commodified art. if we hadn’t, how would artists support themselves? we show artists their work is valuable by assigning a value to it.

i don’t mind AI art when it’s done for the good of art, i think is what i’m settling on. i don’t even think i honestly care if i can tell apart people-art from AI-art (wherever that distinction lies). what i find myself reacting to and what i definitely care about is i think primarily that the Market ™ will determine that AI has made art so easy, so fast, that artists’ work is no longer valuable, and therefore no longer gets assigned a value. especially if its at the cost of expression. the james somerton types, who look at the humanities and see a disparate gap between effort and profit.

because (i fear) they aren’t looking at AI as a boon to art — they’re looking at it as a new way to cut costs, taking from artists they otherwise would have paid for their “property” to make something slightly to the left. and in the worst case scenario (which may or may not be realistic), this cuts down people who do genuinely care and leaves only people creating soulless (not in the human input sense — in the “this is generic and vague and not really impactful when you look closely at it” sense, which both AI and humans create) stuff.

i hate AI art when its opportunistic. i love it when it adds to our repertoire. and if i didn’t feel a very urgent dread that even improving it as a tool would just add fuel to the exploitative uses, i probably wouldn’t care very much. the ownership wouldn’t matter if it didn’t matter, you know?

i don’t know if a world where this isn’t an issue is like actually within reach — i would like to believe that it is, i’m not really Learnéd on government structure and i’m not going to be — but i would love it to be reality. the arguments that sway me are the ones that really seem to care about art, like this really beautiful comic. i want art to be super collaborative. i think that kind of thing is beautiful. & i think its ugly (but currently necessary) to think of it in terms of property and material value.

this might all be nothing. i’m still kind of hammering it out in my head, but its the most convicted i’ve been on the topic in like two years so i wanted to get it down. i’m gonna be thinking about this piece for a while.

Hello. Right now I'm panicking. I don't know what to do.

So the Wayback Machine has stored snapshots of my websites (deviantart and Tumblr mainly) and I wished for them to be removed and excluded from future references/storage.

I'm so scared and hurt. Me and my boyfriend's accounts has been stored in the system. Luckily it's only the home page. I'm literally in tears.

Idk why I'm telling you this. I just need to tell someone to talk to. At the time of when I sent this, I have not told my boyfriend. Planning on telling him.

I think you're making a bigger deal out of this than is necessary.

I get that anxiety isn't logical and blows every molehill into a mountain. I get that this feels like a big deal to you and I'm not brushing that off.

But I am pretty sure you're the same anon who's sent asks before about deleting accounts and scrubbing yourself from different websites. And while I understand wanting to start fresh or just remove some older stuff of yours, in most cases, people aren't going to think that much of it if/when you delete your account and posts and move on. They really won't. So I doubt people are going to go to the Wayback Machine and type in your url or whatever to find those saved pages of yours.

Again, I'm not brushing it off. I'm trying to give a different perspective.

I don't think this is as big a deal as you think. But if you're still upset about it, you could contact them to see about having them remove it.

This is your first attempt at ranked? So I am not really good at the game in comparison to big streamers and eSports athletes but I have been playing casually for long enough and eventually figured out somethings that work for me in ranked.

My best advice is to work on aim and communication. If you have VC make sure you focus on telling your teammates who you're fighting and how much damage you've done to them, where they are, and who belongs to what squad

Like saying "lifeline inside, 35 blue" or "I cracked octane he's taking cover here *ping*"

Be serious when a fight happens and if your team is the type to make jokes and convos during the game KEEP IT GOING BUT MAKE SURE TO GET USED TO TURNING IT OFF AS FAST AS POSSIBLE WHEN A FIGHT BEGINS! I cannot stress how important it is to know when to focus and that it takes REAL practice to make it a habit too. My friends and I are quite casual in games, but eventually started to notice our level of focus would snap and only after that point did we ever see progress.

Hot dropping is NOT BAD but it is EXTREMELY RISKY WITHOUT THE RIGHT TECHNIQUES. --- to ensure a good hot drop let's first talk training. Get used to how each gun works, with and without attachments, so that you can pick up a gun quickly to target people in hot drops! This takes movement training too in order to loot fast but that's basic stuff not like movement god stuff (movement god stuff is not necessary to be good in fact aim does beat movement in the end but the playstyles are different for their own reasons), make sure you land NEAR OUTSIDE BINS ALWAYS because if you have to go inside a building naked to look for a weapon you have a worse chance of being killed by legend abilities, land outside on-top of loot and only focus on TAKING ONE GUN at first so your team can all nab them. if you're wrestling for loot from an enemy immediately then absolutely take it all, don't hot drop in too overwhelming places, it's ok to change your mind!

Running away is ok, learn how to Zig zag and dive for optimal movement speed opportunity, but I cannot stress how important it is to make sure you're aware of what cover you have at all times. do not run if you do not know where you're going ! It takes a lot of practice but eventually you'll start mapping out escape routes depending on places in the map!

Do not shoot if you're not able to hop behind cover like unless you have to try to do something else to avoid dying! Shooting out wide whether you're moving while you're shooting or not is going to slow you down and make you a two hit kill. And if you're being shot at already and decide to turn your back to the person you're dead!

I feel like I do a lot of these instinctually, but having them pointed out and put into actual words does help with awareness? Idk I'm bad with words and this is very well put. Good advice, very solid. Thank you.

im boutta load up bg3 but first i gotta get some thoughts abt my tavs backstory out lmao

as you may know my tavs name is astyr and hes based on the oc thats my minecraft skin, so cuz of that i gave him the outlander background. but ofc the game offers you dialogue choices based on being baldurian and i have selected some of them SO im gonna say his parents were those off the grid, isolationist types. didnt trust other people, hated towns and cities. for the first few years of his life he was raised out in the wilds, only taught what was necessary for survival, hunting and fishing for food, building tools and shelter from scratch. but, he was always a curious kid, and even tho his parents forbade him from approaching other people, he would occasionally see travelers or adventuring parties down by the river he liked to fish at

astyr overheard a LOT of these people talking abt baldurs gate, which ofc piqued his curiosity, and eventually while tryna eavesdrop on an interesting conversation abt magic and sorcery vs. wizardry, he got spotted. now obviously this was a dirty, ratty little feral tiefling kid, so they assumed hed been abandoned and offered to bring him back to the city. and, well, these people were nice, and his parents were mean, and he wanted to know more abt the city but he could never find out how to get there, so he agreed

im thinkin that these adventurers ask his name, and he has no idea what a name even is, and these people are devastated. how long has this kid been out here??? and then he says his parents always called him "you" or "child" or "boy," are those names? and these adventurers are like "what the fuck??? kid are you okay???"

ANYWAY astyr is brought to baldurs gate and set up at an orphanage or smth (im not that far into the game idk if theres actually an orphanage or anythin actually in baldurs gate) and holy shit, this kid now has access to books. this kid learns fast, and as soon as he grasps the basics of reading hes basically teaching himself. its around this time he also discovers hes a sorcerer, and has a propensity for thunder/lightning magic, and starts teaching himself how to be a storm sorcerer! and also picks out a name for himself. he just thought it sounded nice

he eventually leaves the orphanage or wherever he was brought to and starts just livin out on the streets of baldurs gate, sneaking into school classrooms to learn whatever he can whenever he can and spending most of his time in libraries and whatnot, while slipping back out into the wilds to hunt for his own food and spending most nights sleeping in trees. hes just out here bein a forest cryptid and masquerading as a normal lower city kid, and by the time hes in his late teens its only partially acting. hes like a weird mix of feral wild-man and street-smart urchin, and is all the while honing his magic. and lemme tell ya hes a damn good sorcerer. hes not famous or well known, hell, basically only other ppl living on the streets know who he is, but he ended up being the go-to guy for magic stuff if you have no way to pay. just give him smth to eat or a potion or smth and hes down to do whatever

ALSO cuz hes a tiefling he obvs faced all the discrimination that tieflings face, so most of his social interaction was with other tieflings. hes pretty connected to tiefling customs, culture and history and takes pride in himself and his people

last thing, cuz he is p much a self insert, hes my age (24 almost 25) and this actually makes him one of, if not the youngest of the group? like, the only one i could see as being around that young as well would be shadowheart. maybe karlach too, depending on how young she was when she was sent to zariel, but i read her as being late 20s-early 30s anyway. so this rag tag group of adventurers on their way to save the world has inadvertently made the youngest member of their group the de facto leader. like ofc astyr is still a grown ass man but almost the entire rest of this group are in their mid-30s at the youngest, and yet this 25 year old is the one in charge while out adventuring. and while hes GOOD at it but he does still have his moments that remind the others that hes the youngest of them. idk i just find that whole dynamic interesting and kinda funny

...to get a bit angsty for a sec, one of these "he really is the youngest of us" moments was the reaction to kar'niss' pleading after astyr convinced him to walk into the shadows (based on my own negative reaction to that moment). that slightly smug smirk of satisfaction from outsmarting and avoiding a fight drops from his face in a second, ears lowering and tail freezing, and for the first time since the companions met him, astyr pales. he seems to snap out of his funk when the harpers speak to them again, and he goes onwards like everything is normal, but his tail still isnt moving. normally, it sways when he walks, flicks like a cats when hes content, idly wraps around the ankles of whoever hes standing closest to, but no, its just been dragging limply behind him ever since. and sometimes, in the silence and the darkness, he gulps, and shivers, and if theyre listening carefully, his breaths shake. and while he talked the toll keeper into killing herself with no problem, when the party was on the roof and spotted the drider and his caravan again, now shadow creatures, they all saw him freeze for a moment, but only astarion, who was stood in front of him to shoot the creatures all down from the edge of the rooftop, saw the shine of welling tears, the obvious signs of reliving that memory, in his eyes

I've been thinking about these 3 alot...

... and how much they seem to really respect Shino. I know it's a filler, but, like... Why does it seem like Shino has a knack for finding children who have wondered off away from school? Like, he's just taking a walk, making his way around the village or surrounding forest, and then there they are. Kids playing hooky or some shit. And Shino just takes it upon himself to approach them and steer them back to where they should be, while getting them attached to him somehow in the process??

But honestly. If this was just one of many times this had happened, I'd say Shino does this not out of his knack for teaching or having a way with kids. Rather, he developed a way with kids and easily applies that to his teaching because he has a strong desire to simply protect children. And it's not even from some paternal instinct as much as survival, because I think it stems from the developing trauma of losing Torune to Danzo. And I don't think it's all subconscious either.

Like I know the novel and anime frames his desicion to teach as a sort of a new goal in life as the war has ended for a couple years already and a noticable Peace has been achieved by the Blank Period and well... He's an Aburame.

Like, the Aburame are literal living, breathing, walking bioweapons. With no fight to utilize that, what else is there? Well, much like the Nara have the Nara forest and Pharmacology specifically, The Aburame most likely have a historical stake in the area of Konoha, perhaps it was simply in their Ancestral Home. Idk, but they're here to stay, they ain't budging. They're Clan Culture is very Martial and I'd argue Spartan in nature, but otherwise, they do other things too. I think they'd do well as major players in the conservation and research of native species of animals and plants, but definitely insects too. I bet they play a huge part in the general area's ecosystem, especially due to the fact that the Kamizuru clan attacked with a whole clan's worth of non-native Hymenoptera that could very well have become and still are an irritatingly and consistent problem as invasive species tend to be. And as a far as goods go, why not put some of them to use and handle an apiary? Honey is a great good to sell. All of this is great as a clan that no longer needs to fight. But, what about individual members in general, and so Shino?

Well Shino is the Heir of this clan. This Noble Clan. This "ready to throw hands at any moment" clan. It's future is in his hands, so to speak. So I doubt Shino would completely sever his connection to Shinobi life all together. And so, teaching at the Academy would be a great way to keep that connection. Teachers have to know their stuff, after all.

But what if in order to ensure teaching was his calling, Shino did his absolute best to make Jounin ASAP so he could take on a Genin Team. And. And by chance, it ended up being these three?? And they are absolutely STOKED!!! And they also pass Shino's genin test, which... would probably be a feat in it's own right. But they already know Shino, and Shino has bestowed upon them some wisdom they actually took to heart! Yeah, well, in reality they might be just a tad too old to be Shino's first official genin squad, but they were still his squad one point in a sense, right?

Kon Nohara, Tano Ikemoto, and Aoki Kobayashi

I even gave them names help Imagine these three are already chuunin at least and decide they want to pay Shino a visit and even volunteer to help Shino during class time on a collective day off because they admire him so much (T~T)

But even then if not these three kiddos, maybe these three li'l shits lol

Even in times of Peace, Shino's special set of skills seem too useful to waste, and being a Jounin teacher would definitely have been a way he could still go on missions, but also definitely commit to becoming a Sensei at the academy once he was 100% sure and got older. Kurenai became a Jounin/Genin Squad Leader in her late twenties, but in comparison I see Shino doing that more mid-20s. (He needs some time to travel and find his big bug friend and generally live a little?)

Kurenai was a Genjutsu Specialist who manned a Tracker/Sensing based team. This sounds like it was a highly beneficial combination, even if she ended up being somewhat sadistic lol. Asuma was bound to Team 10 by Tradition as InoShikaCho and Sarutobi have that Pact together. Kakashi's team was literally Cherry Picked for him specifically by the 3rd Hokage. And Gai, a Taijutsu Specialist, had a team that Specialized in Taijutsu and Physical Offense.

Of all four teams, Kurenai and Gai were very suited to their teams, Gai in a complimentary way and Kurenai in a Challenging way. In that same vein, I think Shino would imitate Gai. Shino as a Shinobi himself has a general set of skills, but the way he goes about them are very niche. But, he was always very stealthy, and could sneak up on nearly anyone. Gags aside, he could go unnoticed as long as he wanted too, and by the time he was noticed or was ready to attack, he has you quite literally surrounded. Honestly I can see why Search and Destroy would be an Aburame's forte, but when there's no need, a person with a personal skill of high quality stealth could probably man a team with an emphasis on Reconnaissance and/or Surveillance, even Bodyguarding. I feel like Shino would probably put an emphasis on Stealth and Tracking too, utilizing his insects as sort of assistants that keep tabs on his students (Stealth Test) as well as to encourage just enough fear during too much down time in his students to inspire quality training opportunities, so maybe Kurenai rubbed off on Shino more than they all realized haha

(Plus I'm sure his students would be be smart and thoughtful enough to eventually understand what Shino and his bugs are: a complete unit. They realize just how strong and dedicated Sensei really is to be the way he is, and they all learn more in depth about Kikaichu and it's like WOW SENSEI YOU REALLY ARE RISKING BEING EATEN ALIVE EVERY SINGLE DAY, AREN'T YOU? But he's still here, because THAT'S how strong he's become over the years and the confidence to manipulate the Kikaichu while having to think of current chakra level, the most efficient use at any given time, how many he actually needs, how long usage will last, ect. They are high maintenance, man!)

Shino would no doubt produce highly skilled Bodyguards and Masters of Stealth. Maybe the type that would end up being in high demand for the eventual Celebrities that start to pop up as times change, but still very much needed when it comes to Criminal Activity, like in Sora-Ku?

But as time passes and he decided to teach at the Academy, he'd feel very at ease to do so. He'd be happy to be put in charge of all these children, because he would be able to help teach them things they need to know to defend themselves and others in a world where adults like Danzo had and will continue to exist. Maybe while he's at it, he'd use his stance as a Noble Clan Heir and accomplished Shinobi to push for changes in government with Sai's help and with Naruto and Shikamaru's cooperation? Like, the truth does come out, everyone on the Council were actually horrible and had too much power. So HERE are some ideas and REASONS why these ideas should be implemented because Shino's not going to let his brother's life and death be in vain!? HELL no, we WILL make some changes around here. Shino sees his students and just wants a future where no kid ever has to live in fear of being completely taken advantage of by the very system that was supposed to keep them safe and they pledged allegiance to.

I cannot help but think of the quiet but absolute fear little Shino was harboring for the years to come after Torune was taken by that strange man and Father Shibi didn't even attempt to stop him. His own father didn't dare beat the shit out of this strange man who came looking for him, and the only solution for Shino to stay was for Torune to make himself look more desirable as an asset and be taken instead. I bet there was a lot of misplaced resentment there for a while, and talks that just didn't happen. Maybe a classmate doesn't show up to class one day and Shino is IMMEDIATELY stressed out and just... takes it upon himself to look for them after class. And he's relieved when he see they're simply at home with a fever. Shit like that just fucks with Shino, because theres people taking kids and no one is doing anything about it?? And then as Shino grew older he realized exactly what happened and how slimy the machine of Konoha really is and it was never completely Shibi's fault that Torune had to leave. He grows mentally at a faster rate than most of his classmates, and knows more than a kid really needs to know.

Shino doesn't want that for any other child. Shino is the kind of person who hears kids screaming outside of his house and he can't tell if they're playing or being murdered and it's stressful to the point he'll check through his window and he sees them for himself. He get stressed out seeing a kid in public unattended and WANTS to approach them to help if need be but also maybe he's overthinking it and the parents are there somewhere and he'd just end up looking suspicious. Like, that's what I kind of figure for Shino. He's so hyperaware of the power dynamic between kids and adults and seeing a kid so ready to fall victim to that makes Shino feel ill the more he thinks of what could happen. And he wonders if watching the kid in the market until they finally reunite with their parent so he could move on with the rest of his day causes him even a fraction of the the utterly disgusting flurry of nerves and fear that Shibi must have felt all those years ago. It goes along with his desire to spare every single little insect's life he can. It goes a long with the fact he only gets violent unless absolutely necessary. Like he wants to be strong but he doesn't want to go mad with power either, less he becomes the very thing that hurt him and his family in the first place.

Originally Shino wanted to become strong to be able to defend himself because at a very young age adults failed him and Torune. But then that changes to defend not only himself, but others as he grows on a team, and realizes trust is important. And then he figured if there must be adults out there that would hurt a child, it's only logical that he should become one that would only nurture and teach one to be strong as well.

Anyway, yeah. Had some feelings. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Random thoughts on Moon signs and why Aries Moon is annoying to have

I saw this tweet a while ago that had a list of planetary placements to die for. The first one was Aries Sun/Moon. As an Aries Moon myself, my response was "Nah-ahhh you DON'T want that. This is dangerous territory, trust me". And then I started thinking about Moon signs, why does Aries Moon suck, which Moon placements are nice and which not so much.

You know why Moon in Aries is bad? Sometimes you see these kids at grocery shops that start crying and yelling and tumbling on the floor because their parent doesn't want to buy them candy (actually, big chances are, they are Aries Moons, but that's not what I'm trying to convey here). As kids they are going to externalise their angry feelings, I mean, everyone's okay with that, they're kids, it's just candy. Worst case scenario, you're just going to roll your eyes at them. But think of an adult who has this screaming, hurt and angry kid inside. It's still there. It won't magically change signs once you're old enough. And yeah, it's going to yell sometimes. And be a cry-baby. And passionately experience every feeling with their whole self, good AND bad. Sometimes it's going to want to scream into a pillow because it's so impatient and frustrated and it just wants everything NOW. Someone on lindaland once said, “you don't have Moon with Moon in Aries, you just have two Marses”. Touché.

Okay but if you want to know something about Aries Moon, know that it feels the urge to be independent. Hates restrictions with their whole heart. Impulsive. Veryyyy impatient, as we have already established. Hates being told what to do. Having constant battle with their emotions. Open and naive (remember it's the child of the zodiac). Very cheery and child-like on one hand but on the other, emotions are expressed and felt in a very raw way, let's say, with a burning passion. Will chase everything. And you can only imagine how an Aries Moon feels when it catches the thing it wants. Likes being the first one in everything. Physical activity is good for their mental health. Kind of obsessed with sex.

Taurus Moon. It's Venusian. It's exalted. It's nice and cosy. It probably has a nice, soothing voice. Think of Elton John, he has Taurus Moon. Beautiful voice but also an eye for beauty and luxury. Can be stubborn in its emotions but hey, at least it's stable, right? It's sensual, just like everything Taurus, and probably loves food way too much. It's in touch with its own body and the only downfall to that is when a Taurus Moon person experiences negative emotions, it affects their whole body. Like, negative emotions can make them physically ill.

Gemini Moon. Ohh Geminis... You know that Mean Girls quote about Regina George "That's why her hair is so big. It's full of secrets". I think of that when I think of Gemini Moons. Like, they just know things. They collect secrets like some friggin Finnick Odair. And they analyze them, probably to the point of brain overheat. So, if you don't want a fried mind, I don't advise having a Gemini Moon. Not that you have a choice, but. They also like to talk. A lot. Love to gossip, just sayin. And seem very friendly when you talk to them. I say "seem" for a reason *whispers* don't trust them.

Cancer Moon. Mushy feelings. The homebodies. The family types. The comfy ones, but not in the way Taureans are. Gentle and creative. Likes to take care of others. Kinda reminds me of sitting with a hot cup of tea and typing poetry into your laptop on a rainy day. Idk. All water Moons are overly emotional but Cancer Moon can be moody and changeable and very sensitive to, you guessed it, Moon phases. CLINGY. You guys are clingy, just admit it.

Leo Moon. There's something about them... It's like the star quality of a Leo but it beams from within, you know? It's like something inside was pushing them towards greatness. They just have to believe in themselves and they will shine. Loves creative pursuits, arts, theatre, music, just anyhing fun. Expressive. Charming. Inspiring. Hopeless romantic. Can be flashy too, it's Leo after all. Wanna make them feel good? Compliment them, they LOVE it and need it.

Virgo Moon. Okay... for some reason I know a lot of Virgo Moons and let me tell you... there's something gentle about them. They're quiet and polite and - this is not a commonly talked about Virgo trait, but - they're softies, you know? But they need work, probably to distract themselves from all the thoughts. It's a lot more focused mercurial energy that Geminis, grounded and analytical. But that also makes them prone to overthinking and anxieties. Can be hard on themselves... so they work even more. And unlike Gemini Moons, they're SHYYYYY.

Libra Moon. Everyone loves them. Ugh the irresistible charm. They're the people's people. Again, it's that Venus. The difference is, Taurus loves to be loved and spoiled. Libra will love and spoil others, they just want to be nice and stuff. And they have an eye for beauty and arts. Chances are a Libra Moon person is beauty and art themselves. Has an internal need for relationships. But it's air so has a tendency to intellectualize these relationships... and everything else tbh. Great communication. Social.

Scorpio Moon. They straight up give me the creeps. My sister is a 0° Scorpio Moon so I KNOW. Don't get me wrong, I love Scorpio Suns... but Moons... It's like the water of the water, the over-emotional ones. Kiiiiiind of simmilar to Aries in the sense, that they feel emotions A LOT but it's not straight-forward like with Aries. Instead, it's pushy and passive-aggressive and manipulative, not very trustful and secretive. OH MY GOD, so secretive. It's just intense.

Sagittarius Moon. Ahhhhhh my favourite. And I don't think I say it because I'm Sag dominant... Sag Moons are just FUN. They exude FUN. Their playfulness and cheerfulness comes from their heart, that's why it's so special. Thinks and feels big. Big hopes and visions, maybe too big sometimes. Aries and Leo are focused more on the self, Sag on the other hand, is focused on the world - the actual world or a fictional one. Loves movies and is probably a bookworm. Philosophical. Optimistic and lighthearted. Kind of a dork - whether an adorable or annoying one lol.

Capricorn Moon. I'm sorry but ya'll are just depressing. I have Moon square Saturn so I kind of get the vibe. I feel like having a Cap Moon is like having something squashing you from the inside; very withdrawn. It's cool if you get to work, and Cap Moons can be workaholics and hard workers... But if you give into that hermitism (yea I just made that word up) and get lazy due to... things... or being too overwhelmed by that Saturn energy, you get squashed, basically. Also, fears and lots of reservations. I feel like these guys have issues with that. 

Aquarius Moon. My Aqua friends... let me tell you. They're not necessary weirdos, as people say. But they are humanitarians at their core. Like, THEY JUST CARE. So that makes them sensitive. But not in a watery way. Can be veryyyy aloof and hard to get to. Will probably intellectualize their emotions and try to detach from them. All about people but not like a Libra. Difference is, Aqua wants to be independent. Expressive and intelligent. 

Pisces Moon. My favourite water Moon. It's dreamy and soft. Yeah, a bit flakey, but let’s NOT talk about it. I feel like Pisces Moons just get emotions. They understand them because they're all about the collective. That makes them empathetic. Intuitive. Romantic. The artistic types. DAYDREAMERS TO THE MAX, they’re in another dimension. It’s like sometimes you talk to them but they’re somewhere else. Prolly loves being near the water, it's like the sea is calling them. May have escapist tendencies.

But in all seriousness, I see the relationship as rather lighthearted and enjoyable, maybe a bit spontaneous too. Want to go to the beach? Done. Want to kick some ass in Gotham? For sure. It’s like a match made in heaven.

Not to mention that the Titans rather look up to you, which is a definite plus. Not just anyone can date the Dick Grayson.

As opposed to popular opinion... I’d think that this is a rather slow relationship. 

Speedsters are more than just familiar with how life just flashes by so I think Wally would like to enjoy the relationship at a slower pace, he wants it to last as long as possible.

With that said, you’re both menaces. His speed combined with your cleverness? No one is safe and the Titans know it.

I also feel like this sweetness can also “flip,” so to say. As in if someone messes with either of you in the relationship the other will come running regardless of whether or not they could do anything about it.

marcus m. he’s a single dad for a significant amount of time, he has no choice but to be responsible with his money. he has to take care of missy, keep them both fed and housed and healthy, and that’s not even touching on how expensive all of high school graduation and college will be once she gets there. he teaches missy very early in life how important money is bc he doesn’t want her to ever know how it feels to not have enough. he makes a considerable amount of money w the heroics tho so he can afford to responsibly splurge on you both, but not constantly. is very cautious abt the splurging becoming a habit

javier. i know you’re possibly surprised but hear me out. he’ll go all in to get info, whether he’s spending american taxpayer money or his own money or anyone else’s, if it’s valuable info that can be bought, it’s gonna be bought even if he goes without groceries for the next two weeks. before being with you, it was booze and prostitutes and cigarettes that ate away at his checks outside of buying information. the only thing that really changed once you got together was the prostitutes and slightly less cigarettes and booze. however, when he goes back to laredo permanently, he’s perfectly capable of keeping his shit in line. he’ll balance every checkbook in sight and run a tight af ship.

ezra. this man is a scavenger by necessity, a con man by choice. he has a silver tongue and a roguish charm and pretty questionable morals; he’s not gonna have any issue with getting his hands dirty. he’s probably gonna use your joint money to try and pull a fast one on some unsuspecting stranger (“it’ll double our money,” he says, “it’ll be fine,” he says), but then said stranger will end up turning the tables and leave you both absolutely broke. yeah he will feel guilty, no doubt. the only problem is that he won’t take it as a “hey don’t do it again” lesson, it’ll be a “this is how i can improve for next time.” eventually you have to put your foot down and take control of the money and when he realizes that you’re improving your lives much better than he is, he will thank you for it.

mild lok spoilers but sokka ends up chief, and gets involved in politics over time, so he kinda runs out of time for you a bit until he figures out how to organize his time better, then he gets kinda sad, but he still wants to take you out on dates as often as possible ok no more spoilers

so speaking of dates, sokka wants weekly dates, this is a must, does not care if it is a fancy restaurant, cooking at home, or a picnic. he loves picnics most though, and please notice how food is the common factor here

sokka would never cheat on you but if he did he would cheat with food

arguments aren’t rare, but they are mostly over dumb stuff and you both know its dumb stuff so for the most part its a joke, but sometimes someone takes things too far so then apologies are necessary

like actual argument arguments are mostly rare because sokka doesn’t wanna pick fights with you and he’s fairly passive unless he feels really strongly about something

he can be REALLY MEAN THOUGH AND PETTY like wow sokka will go days without talking to you because of a fight

he can and will apologize first when he realizes the toll its taking on your relationship, probably will apologize first

if you catch him being a misogynist put him in his place :)

 he thinks you are hot when you are angry and might pick a fight with you just for that reason, pls make out with him

now he’s back to beaming so brightly, and he’s putting the ring on your finger and oh no- he’s passed out. is it from excitement or bloodloss? idk

he also might pass out before hearing you answer and then at the hospital you’re kinda sitting there like, “ARE YOU DUMB STUPID OR DUMB. YOU COULD HAVE DIED.”

and he’s like, “not without hearing your answer” <3<3 heart eyes emojis everywhere

alternatively, he is one of few people i could see having a public proposal, with lots of flowers, a band, fireworks, the whole nine yards

something probably goes wrong and he nearly cries but you say yes anyways and he throws a party after

anyways the actual wedding is preferably public, but if you want a more private one then he does what you want because he loves you most

he is gonna be very active in wedding planning, wants to try the foods and desserts and appetizers and everything especially. wants to do the weird stuff like picking napkins with you and flower arrangements and all that stuff i think this happens idk someone please inform me

this stuff just makes him fall in love with you more tbh, and he’s just so so sure he wants to marry you 

his vows will make HIM cry, like he is going to cry when he sees you walk down the aisle, he’s going to cry when he reads his own vows, and he’s going to cry when you read your vows, it doesn’t matter if they are lowkey bad

makes jokes in his vows because he is a nerd but can barely reach the punchline because he is in tears

fr though he is just so happy to be marrying you and wow you look REALLY GOOD in whatever you are wearing um damn okay you really went off

married life with sokka is elite ngl, mans cooks for you, he probably cleans sometimes, but otherwise chores are fairly divided 

he spoils you

overall sokka is a real great s/o and he gives you everything you deserve and yeah marry sokka 2020 everyone deserves a sokka
