Got some requests for some N and Cyn!
N was the one to suggest removing Cyn from Uzi's tail once they understood it was actually Cyn- she was hesitant at the offer because it had been 20 years since she had any sort of autonomy and was so used to being an idle watcher.
A lot of her free time in the early days is spent just sitting idly, she has to re-learn a lot of how to exist solo; but once she gets the hang of free will again she'll be practically exploding with self-expression 💞
The weather is super unpredictable post-series and it's no longer just a snowy hellscape all over, so on pleasant nights he helped her take walks outside, otherwise she'd happily spend all her days cooped up in the bunker. The cold weather outside probably feels really nice since AS Drones run warm!

I don’t think Twig grows up to be as big of a deerfox as his parents because it would honestly be pretty inconvenient. One thing about Twig is he CANNOT be too big to sleep in Hilda’s bed, I simply will not allow it.

I try to generally be constructive and engaged with the show I love on here, so on this day, I’ll just say that one of the most thematically important aspects for me from the original ATLA is Aang’s emotional core of real shame for running away when he was hurt by the monk’s decision to send him away. People who feel the kind of deep-seated shame that Aang feels from this decision can understand how that kind of all-encompassing shame is not built around a simple failure or a lie they tell themselves; it’s constructed from real misbehaviors and transgressions of their own sense of ethics—lashing out, telling lies, attempting to hurt others intentionally—that then have consequences (abuses, abandonments, or deaths) which seem to far exceed their expectations or even basic logic.
The combination of the misbehavior with exaggerated existential punishments (along with a lack of support and amend-making in the immediate wake of the events) is what transforms a sense of guilt (I fucked up) into shame (I am a forever fuck-up). Then shame, that sense of being a secret monster ‘no matter what I do or how good everyone thinks I am,’ invites all the avoidance strategies (Aang puts on big smiles, makes lots of jokes, constantly tries to make everyone happy, hops from town to town without building deeper connections). One doesn’t want to acknowledge one’s true feelings or let others in to see those feelings and experiences because it’s too painful to face the grief at the same time that you have to look at yourself for being responsible—even when you recognize it wasn’t totally your fault. It’s just that if you had just been good, less emotional, less human, then maybe the world wouldn’t be so messed up. Of course, in a zen view of things, the world will always be messed up in the same way it will always be beautiful. These are constant facts that always coexist in balance, and this is the truth that Aang learns and that undergirds the whole series.
So I always loved that Aang ran away. It was his sin and his salvation. And it becomes this constant tension for the series—he gets hurt in Bato of the Water Tribe and starts to run away from Katara and Sokka, he runs away to the Guru in the Crossroads of Destiny and his best friend is attacked, he and the gaang retreat after the Day of the Black Sun failure, he runs away to meditation in Sozin’s Comet when everyone wants him preparing for war. Aang’s reluctance to be a hero and the attachments and petulance for which he gets criticized are what metamorphasize to become his most noble attributes. They allow him to empathize with others shame and, ultimately, wield the kind of compassion that can deconstruct the power and perfectionism of imperialism.
So yes, Aang ran away from his temple 100 years ago. It wasn’t the mentally healthy choice. It wasn’t the ethical choice. It wasn’t the wise choice. It was human and emotional and shameful and real. Aang is a better character for it. ATLA is a better show because of it. And we are better people when we understand these kind of tragic emotional experiences that people are trying so hard to grow through.

And then he just leaves the first aid kit there for them. He can't even face them. I love these teachers so much. I am decimated by them and the story being slowly told in the littlest moments and the pain they can't share and the quiet things that hurt the deepest sometimes.

I don't presume to have any opinions on the Thai government, seeing as I'm not Thai, but as someone quite critical of the political landscape in my own country, I really love it when Gmmtv does things like this.
I feel like I grew up with a lot of "end of history" vibes in media where there was always an underlying idea of "there might be some individual problems here or there but on the whole we've figured things out and there's no need for fundamental change", contrastet with very direct, often quite theory-heavy political satire that told me "all is very much NOT well" (7 year old me didn't know who Spongebob was but could have explained to you in some detail what stupid thing some politician had said at a recent party conference, and why it was stupid).
So while I obviously love when they make shows that center their plot around political critique like Not Me or The Eclipse, it really makes my heart sing whenever they plain-language drop things like this in their shows where politics isn't the central theme. (Not that Peaceful Property is otherwise shying away from serious social/political issues, but it's not the main plot of the show.) This background aknowledgment of "Yeah, we know things aren't ideal" in a lot of Gmmtv shows just always feels so refreshing to me.

I have so many thoughts on this (that I will make a whole post about sometime later) but what I can say at this moment is that I need to know absolutely everything about this Alison character so that I can analyze it!
I need to know more about her and I need to know more NOW!!!

Does YabuZawa ever go back into teaching and/or heroing?
Not nearly to the same capacity. His transition to being back around the students is largely in a protective role but because of their history he does still teach them things. Those kids are good kids; they learned from the other faculty (especially Midnight) that Aizawa loves being a teacher and so they make it a point to ask him for advice even if that's not what he's around for in an official capacity. There's a really touching scene in Tartarus too around this topic but unfortunately it's pretty far off in comic page terms :")
It's all more of an in-the-field situation by then though. He really isn't around them again as a free agent until after this AU's version of the war kicks off.
Heroing, also no.

Reading The Whispering Skull and I don't think I'll ever be over L&C getting canceled. It hits so much harder now reading the books. If nothing else, at least the one season it got led me to read these, I never would have found them otherwise

I do find it suspect that a lot of adult animation that centers around women leads and can be funny without being grossly offensive tends to always be cancelled too— ie, inside job, praise petey, etc—-

Looking back, the way Garroth was acting in the last episodes of season one of diaries was ridiculous. Like, you're a grown ass man WHY are you, as the head guard, sulking in your room all day just because you saw the girl you've liked for literally 2 months kiss another guy when your village is on the brink of war???
#the pyre#in retrospect this is when the Garroth/Laurence character assassination really started#like the last 20 eps of mcd or atleast the eps after they get back from the wolf village quest#are my favorite in the entire series but I've never actually properly rewatched them#I usually get to ep 70 and then drop my rewatch bc something else came up#I haven't watched these eps since they first aired 9 years ago#and it's so crazy how much I'd changed bc middle school me probably felt bad for Garroth#but adult me is kinda resenting him and wondering how this manchild was ever my favorite character#like I used to hate Laurence and his fans and his ship with aphmau that until I rewatched diaries as an adult#I didn't fully appreciate his character#in retrospect he was prob the best option for aphmau or at least he was until he became weirdly possessive in season 2 lol#like I said charcater assassination bc now in ep 95 he's taken the role of head guard bc Garroth is throwing a tantrum#and he's not using his newfound power to make aphmau feel like she owes him or smth like that#which is a very low bar but this is str8 romance it was only ever going to have a very low bar#but this laurence is v different from season 2 laurence but tbh I never rewatch season 2 bc I hate it#so I can only think of it the same way that pessimistic middle school me who already knew that diaries would never be as charming as it was#in season one but I still watched anyway bc I wanted to see those small garroth moments#I was watching a ytube video about romantasy and honestly if jess wrote mcd as a book series#you couldn't tell me she wouldnt be popular#all this feels very melodramatic ya fantasy post twilight book to me

hi I hope this doesn’t sound like a demand lol but I love how you draw jupiter and I hope you draw him more
your art is so cool by the way I really like your character lineup 🥺
Thank you so much!! I literally never draw Jupiter, on account of my inability to draw 1. adult men and 2. beards, BUT it’s something I need to / want to get better at. The only other time I’ve drawn him was that lineup which I did super quick, so it was fun to try and think of an actual design so I can try to draw him more!
Tumblr media
[ID: Three half-colored digital sketches of Jupiter North from Nevermoor. They show him as a kid with messy hair, a young adult with a mullet and mustache, and an adult with longer hair and a fuller beard. End ID.]
Details on my Jupiter design / headcanons (?) for his life under the cut:
I started with the middle— in my layers, I dubbed him to be “teen” Jupiter, originally intending for him as a senior scholar, but as time went on I figured he was more like, early 20s young adult Jove. The Wunsoc sweater is just still there on the adults because I didn’t want to redraw <3
I feel like Wunsoc, especially with Dearborn and Murgatroyd prowling the halls, holds its student’s appearances to a certain standard. Sure, society members are representatives of the society for the rest of their lives once they graduate, but their time in school is their first introduction to that life. It's their debut as society members. We see this in a lot of stuff with Holliday, in Hollowpox and in the one Silverborn snippet, how she's manufacturing an image for Mog and co. and physical appearance plays a part in it.
Going with this: I feel like Wunsoc would expect their students to keep their appearance clean and approachable somewhat. Jupiter gives me a vibe of the kid who had a crazy growth spurt, and was able to grow a beard before graduating– BUT I don't know if Wunsoc (really just the Scholar Mistresses) would be crazy for that. So I imagine that he's relatively clean-shaven for the most part, nowhere near modern Jove, and then starts to grow out his facial hair a bit more as a senior scholar where I imagine things would lax a bit, and then just commit fully to growing a beard once he properly graduates.
So young adult Jupiter is perhaps in his early 20s, a somewhat recent Wunsoc graduate. I'm a mullet Jupiter truther, where his hair is longer in the back, and had to represent that. Younger Jove's is messier and more fun; he's not too concerned about his image as he hasn't quite reached that laundry list of titles and accolades yet.
Present-day adult Jupiter is still rocking the mullet style, just now it's longer and styled a bit more professionally. But let's be real– it doesn't stay this way. It totally gets easily messed up from his hats, and Jove loves to have fun and entertain people, Plus, he's a busy man, constantly stressed and running around. While the hair here might be great for say, a formal meeting or a magazine cover, the hair most folks end up seeing him with tends to be a bit more wild. He definitely starts to resemble his younger self's hair more after a rowdy night or a stressful endeavor.
Kid Jupiter– not much to say here, tbh. I figured I'd stick with the longer hair he has as an adult, kinda rowdy. Not a mullet yet, though! I was thinking of the part in Nevermoor where he starts talking about the rules he broke and stuff he got up to as a Wunsoc student, and how Hawthorne started taking notes, and made his hair similar to the rowdy hair of our favorite bestie. However, while Hawthorne's hair is curly, I'm of the belief that Jupiter's hair is definitely pretty straight. So no curlicues for him </3
Hopefully now that I've started to nail down a design for Jupiter, I can draw him more!! I always have soooo many Nevermoor ideas circling around in my brain. I love thinking about designs for various characters and the reasonings behind different aspects of their appearance.

I’m tired of being a hater. I’m tired of dunking on a series I know virtually nothing about. I’m tired of being mad about a goofy style.
Anyways.
I’m gonna go become a One Piece fan.
See y’all in 12 years.
