Cover Reveal! Missed Fortunes by Tris Lawrence
Tumblr media
Duck Prints Press is thrilled to share that next Wednesday, February 12th, we’ll be launching our next crowdfunding campaign – and here is the gorgeous cover of the book, Missed Fortunes by Tris Lawrence. This awesome story, the middle volume of the Twinned trilogy, follows the students of fictional Pine Hills University as they navigate the usual challenges of college: exams, sororities and fraternities, people with new magic Talents emerging, roommate relationships, and of course the looming danger of the end of the world! Tris crowdfunded book one, Commit to the Kick, a few years ago, and it’s now available through the Duck Prints Press webpage. We are in the process of editing book three, and expect to do a Kickstarter campaign for it over the summer. But before then – now, it’s time for the middle book!
To solve the problem of now… Remember what lies behind… Pass through your hopes and fears… …to the final outcome. Carolyn knows the Emergence brought her a new community, but it also revealed the existence of people with magical Talent to the scrutiny of the world. Her high school life ended on a tumultuous note, but now that she’s a junior at Pine Hills University, her life has become stable. She has her twin Kit. She has her sorority sisters. She has her Talent and her Tarot cards. But when the Tower appears in a reading, the world shatters and changes. Kit has left his predictive Talent behind, and Caroyln’s own predictive Talent is changing decidedly unpredictably. She’s seeing visions of fire and destruction, of Shadows moving in the darkness and intruding into the light. And her sorority sister Drea and Drea’s brother Alaric have returned from winter break, warning of looming dangers and the risk of Clan going to war. Carolyn shouldn’t get involved—doesn’t want to get involved—but with the world crumbling around her and her predictions hinting at worse to come, she can’t imagine not doing what she can. To make matters worse, the only way forward is to reconcile with her past, but Carolyn isn’t sure how to do that nor why it seems so important to the world that she does.
We’ll be sharing loads more about this book in the days to come, so be on the lookout – follow us on social media or sign-up for our newsletter to make sure you don’t miss your chance to pre-order!

It's SO QUEER that nimona is older than ballister. I was a queer elder when i was 22 sometimes i'm the queer youth and someone else is the elder sometimes my elders are younger than me and it all depends on the experience and the moment and the lesson and the story and the trauma and how much love and acceptance has been in your life so far

ok evidence for bakudeku (and/or togachako) to become canon:
- so mha starts out really normie/cishetero because we are shown good (heroes) and bad (villains) presented as a binary. this is a popular-held belief in society (i'm writing from the perspective of someone from america).
- but the story is now changing into bad (villians) isn't necessarily all bad and irredeemable. bad is just seen as bad because of trauma (especially childhood trauma).
- and we may end up seeing more "reform rather than prison" ideas pop up later too
- in other words, this manga/anime is liberal-leaning. queerness and progressive politics usually go hand in hand.
Hori is constantly presenting us with "shades of grey" vs. "black and white" thinking. Queerness is a shade of grey. How can it not be included at this point?

Before January 2025:
If you are a USAmerican in a relationship that might be affected by legislation that dissolves same-sex marriages, who may no longer be recognized as next-of-kin, especially if you have children, get your rights in writing!
Your marriage certificate may not be enough to prove you have rights to make medical decisions for non-biological children or for a same-sex spouse or partner.
Go to a lawyer, get it spelled out as clearly as possible that you have a voice in emergency medical and legal situations.

"The nonbinary afab who goes by she/her, dresses femininely, and uses a push-up bra when I—" when you what? What's wrong with her?
Is she not nonbinary enough for you? Is the way she experiences her queerness and how she presents not perfect enough for you? Nonbinary people don't owe you androgyny, right? So why is she the exception? Why does she have to hate herself to appeal to your standards? Why is she any less trans—any less worthy of respect—cause it's "not visible"? Queer solidarity my ass. Don't spout this bullshit on Pride, man.

Marriage Equality Achieved!
Today, January 23, the marriage equality law officially takes effect. Thailand now recognizes the right of all couples, regardless of gender, to legally register their marriage.
Tumblr media
At 6.15am, the first couple, 33 year old Ploynapas Jirasukon and 32 year old Kwanporn Kongphet arrived, hand in hand, to register their marriage. Together for 17 years since high school, the Bangkok-based couple radiated joy as they became Thailand’s first officially recognised LGBTQ+ married couple.
Ploynapas shared her excitement, “We’re thrilled to be the first couple to register our marriage. It’s a proud moment, but there’s still more to achieve, like equality in child custody and legal titles.”
Tumblr media
Sumalee, 64, and Thanaporn, 59, became the first same-sex couple to register their marriage at Bang Rak today.
Traveling all the way from Phetchabun, they chose Bangkok's "district of love" for this special occasion.
Tumblr media
Permsap and Puangphet, the second couple to register their marriage in Pathumwan District, shared that they had waited 17 years for this moment, calling it a meaningful achievement.
Although they could have registered in Pai, they chose Pathumwan to express pride in exercising the same legal rights as other Thais. They wore traditional Tai Yai attire from Mae Hong Son, reflecting one partner's heritage, to make the occasion special.
They described the milestone as a collective success for the LGBTQ+ community, achieved through shared efforts.
They hoped future legal changes would address honorific titles for transgender individuals, ensuring fairness for all. The couple encouraged others to stay determined in the fight for equality, believing that persistence leads to success. They also urged countries without equal marriage laws to continue advocating for change.
Reflecting on a past accident, they shared the difficulties caused by the lack of legal recognition. Despite being together for eight years at the time, one was unable to sign medical consent due to the law, underscoring the need for equal marriage rights.

An informational comic I drew last year for my Comics 2 class, reposting it to my new account (had to jump ship from the old one unfortunately) with some minor grammar changes and learned my lesson in adding watermarks! Happy early pride :)

If I see one more naive white queer speaking over actual Chinese queers people and proclaiming xiaohongshu/rednote or even China in general is somehow a fucking wonderland incapable of violent bigotry I’m gonna explode
Tumblr media
1) a lot of the queer related tags have suddenly become usable again after the great migration
2) the #le tag for lesbians literally comes from the #lesbian and #les tags being banned so to act
3) the welcome you’re receiving by chinese people isn’t what actual Chinese queers have experienced (we experience a bombardment of loud angry homophobes/transphobes every single fucking day) and every single Chinese queer I know has been ranting about this for days. Unfortunately a lot of people are hypocrites who are only nice to the guests in the house
4) not only is this rhetoric of don’t ask don’t tell being the main consensus in China FALSE (I don’t even want to get into the media’s suppression of hate crimes and how many queer activism accounts are being banned left and right), passive queerphobia is still FUCKING QUEERPHOBIA…
The audacity to come into OUR HOUSE and speak over us after 3 days of being pampered on this app just for being western is vile and so fucking demoralising because we’ve been yelling about our condition for so long and you guys would rather not miss out on social media brainrot than to actually apply some nuance for once… you guys wanted to distance from the sinophobic propaganda take of China being unequivocally evil so bad that you’ve swung to the other end
