Re listening to all the sagas and got to the part in the Cyclops Saga where Polyphemus says in thanks for the lotus wine, Odysseus will be the last man to die

He's technically not wrong, he's just early. And what Polyphemus says does come to pass when Ody's whole crew is gone post-Thunder Bringer. It's a really unique piece of foreshadowing that takes a long time to pay off and can easily be overlooked in the moment, but it comes back when you listen again and realize it was always going to happen like that, with Odysseus left alone. It was just a matter of when.

Tav returned home from the market, a basket of goodies in hand for their pantry. They stepped through the front door into the living room with small kitchen attached, placing the bags down on the counter.

“Kar’niss, I’m back! I found some nice things at the market,” Tav said.

They would get no response, making them look around in search for the drider. The home had been built with his size in mind, rounded doorways allowing him to squeeze through without the risk of getting stuck and open spaces between furniture for ease of movement. Tav wondered if perhaps he had left to hunt, or maybe went onto the roof to survey the landscape as he often enjoyed doing. They hummed and began to walk toward the back door to check, unaware of movement directly above them.

Before Tav could get too far Kar’niss was on them, dropping from the web they had built in the high ceiling to ambush their companion. Tav’s breath hitched as both arms and pedipalps wrapped around their torso, hitching tight so Kar’niss could hoist Tav off the ground from behind. He had attached himself to a string of silk which suspended them both above the floor below. Kar’niss held Tav firmly to his chest, his head leaning down to deliver a playful bite into the side of their neck.

“I got you.” Kar’niss muffled with his mouth full of neck flesh.

Tav trembled, both relieved and startled at the same time. “Y-You’re too good at th-that…”

“I am,” Kar’niss agreed. He’d squeeze Tav while continuing to chew on their neck without inflicting harm, seeming rather happy that they had come home.

It was one of many things Tav had to get used to living with a drider, but they weren’t complaining in the slightest.

Can Yeerks only interface with organic/organic parts of the brain? We see that the Chee basically hold them captive when “infested”, but wondering what might be possible parameters (I remember size being one mentioned in the series) around what makes a particular species susceptible to Yeerk subjugation

IIRC the series specifies that, in order to be infestable, a host species needs:

One (or two) central brain(s) (Visser)

At least one orifice close to the brain (Hork-Bajir Chronicles)

Brain bigger than that of a red-tailed hawk (#33)

Brain smaller than that of a humpback whale (MM1)

Fluid around the brain (#29)

That said, I think "brain" can be artificial as well as organic. HBC and Visser have scenes where yeerks interface directly with computers, downloading research and even memories without having to go through hosts. So as long as Erek has some kind of brain-like structure, is bigger than a breadbox and smaller than a school bus, I think it's at least possible for a yeerk to interface with him. Not sure if the yeerk could control him necessarily — we never see that happen with a chee — but communication appears to be possible.
