No. It's not at all the same thing. Because the argument you're making is that if SOME people can get guns, then there's no point in FEWER people getting guns. If SOME people will be able to get guns for bad reasons, then there's no point in stopping ANYONE from using guns for bad reasons. That, if something cannot be FIXED it should not be IMPROVED.

The core difference between our arguments is that adult human beings are not guns. "An adult interacting with a child" is not the same as "someone being able to easily obtain a lethal fire arm".

People not having any guns stops gun violence. Reducing access to guns reduces gun violence. Children not having any interaction with adults does not stop danger to children. Children must be taken care of by adults in order to live. Reducing the interaction between adults and children does not reduce danger to children. The vast majority of abuse towards children comes from their caregivers, family members, and close family friends. Those who would never be intended to be restricted by laws limiting interactions between children and adults. Since, again, children need to be taken care of by adults to live.

One argument is about "restricting the manufacture, distribution, and use of a deadly weapon" and one is "restricting human beings of different ages from interacting".

The fact that both claim that "people will get around these restrictions" does not make them the same.

The extent to which people seem to think predators work on "swiper no swiping" rules is baffling and upsetting. It's based around the idea it's somehow impossible for people to lie. The "if you're a cop you have to tell me!" of safety comprehension.

Ok but you select what age you are in the set up, right? So you can just select "minor" and message whoever you want. AND it means that every minor is clearly labeled by who you can and can't message on an adult account.

So you haven't prevented adults from messaging kids, you've just made it so they can instantly tell who to target.

Loudly saying "you're not allowed to be a predator!" is not a safety precaution. You have to actually teach children to recognize and avoid danger.

It's crazy how many people use Death of the Author to mean "separating the art from the artist" when it's actually not supposed to have anything to do with who the author is as a person and is supposed to be about the idea that the author's interpretation of their own work should not be seen as the definitive, correct opinion on that work. Like you're not supposed to invoke Death of the Author when JK Rowling devotes her entire life and fortune to transphobia, you're supposed to invoke it when Trent Reznor says Closer by Nine Inch Nails isn't a sex song.
