A tad bit late with this post, but another year, another go! I took out rewatches this time. I... did not watch that many movies this year lol. Comparatively, at least. :P

Some comments:

The Whale - I mean kudos to the entire cast they gave some fantastic performances, but man. I was not about the main character's attitude and the overall dreary atmosphere.

Marcel the Shell - idk man it just wasn't my jam I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Strong year for animation it seems as the only two that made my "loved" tier were Puss in Boots and Spider-Verse

Highly highly recommend Plan 75 and Past Lives. Both are beautiful, beautiful stories about humanity and connection and god the way they make me FEEL. Just absolutely gut-wrenching in the best way possible.

Meanwhile Shortcomings was just a hilarious time. It was so gratifying to see Asian American rep where all of them are messy and terrible (human ppl trying their best and actively being the worst) lmao.

does tommy mean that he stopped working as a normal firefighter 5 years ago? as in, he left the 118 briefly before buck joined (7 years ago) but was still a firefighter at another station for 2 years. and then became a pilot at harbor, meaning that he's been a pilot for 5 years? but isn't his current station the 217, so harbor, which he transferred to back then (see the cake hen and chim got him)? am i just dumb or does this not make any sense orz

Im probably the worst person for you to ask my dear anon, cause I actually haven’t seen every single episode of the show (I know fake fan), but I think the writers truly don’t care that much about timelines like we do, haha

You’re not dumb, to me it seems like an oversight on their part so it resulted in a very obvious continuity error

I love siblings that kill people for demonic sacrifices & desecrate the corpses while on a dangerous road trip on the run from the authorities….. especially when the brother is really angry & serious & the sister is a silly goofball….

(realized a hilariously specific recurring theme in my favorite fictional dynamics & felt the need to draw two of my fave duos together yes I know I’m not an artist but I like to have fun so sh)

Boothill's presentation being entirely on the twitter post makes me think he will be irrelevant in the story in the long(ish) run, and that the game itself won't dwell on him almost at all

#Kinda like Argenti but Argenti seemed to be part of a larger lore and worldbuilding #Boothill doesn't even give me that vibe #Cool design though. I do love revenge stories and western films so...#*sighs* I guess I may consider him if he's fun to play with and the story is interesting. I hope he takes Aventurine out of the grave #(Or do I? Emotionally I do. Rationally I think I may lean more towards 'keep Aventurine dead' tbh)#Imagine if his revenge is against the IPC in general and Aventurine in particular but when he gets there Aventurine is already dead #The enormous fail that would be hahaha #Automaton cowboy is such a good design though I would have liked it more had they taken the automaton way enhancing the clockwork thing #instead of the cyborg one with the futuristic air. What can I say I do love automatons and clockwork #and to me they're far superior aesthetically than cyborgs. Not into cyborgs and robots at all. Sorry Screwllum. Herta most beloved design #I wonder if his gameplay will revolve around some killing himself mechanic #I don't know what to say I do love those things gameplaywise. I love the risk they add and how they make one strategise a little more #Even beyond the story and the lore‚ Blade is still my fave character to use. So fun so flexible and ironically so reliable despite the risk #Abfksndk rambling #I am thinking of Aventurine and I'm thinking of Fu Xuan. I think I'll skip Robin unless they go dark-dark with her #but I'm still considering Sunday if they make him shady. I was looking forwards to Firefly but I've disliked her writing a lot #so for now she's a big skip. I wouldn't mind getting Topaz given I love the FUA mechanics and the SU #but I like other characters more and I don't like her design at all so I'll skip her too #Couldn't care less about IL (I have him in an alt account and I don't like him at all) so that's a big skip too #I like Screwllum but not enough for now. Hmmm I guess I could get one shielder since I do love them as characters #and then save until one character really convinces me. Boothill‚ Robin‚ Sunday hmmm I hope Sunday is shady and grey #I wonder if they'll bring Huaiyan. I would give a leg for Huaiyan. Yeah I've not moved on from the Xianzhou I love that place #and I adore Huaiyan and the Zhuming. I so hope we'll get to see that ship #I talk too much

Watching Grave of the Fireflies and like it's a really sad story so far, i'm like 18 minutes in and really invested, but also the art design makes like every character looks so fucking old like the child looks like she's fucking 30 years old and like i get that that's an artistic choice to show how the war is affecting these people or whatever but also my brain is like not processing their actual ages so it's kind of annoying

Note: Some of the story’s scenes, such as collecting fireflies for his sister, and taking her to the beach, are based on Nosaka’s own experiences. However, later in his biography, Nosaka states that the story is a “lie” and that he was not as kind to his sister as Seita was to her.

the boy and the heron is an incredibly good movie please go and see it especially if you're a fan of ghibli/miyazaki

my only complaint is that it's not out of theaters yet so i can't go back to dissect it because bruh i need to internalize that movie and study all the animation because JESUS CHRIST THAT WAS HAND DRAWN. i need to lay down.

#miyazaki has been THE formative filmmaker for me since i watched Totoro and Nausicaa when i was 5 #and his works (and other ghibli works) have really influenced the way i see the world #so it was just so satisfying to see the culmination of his career and it FELT like a culmination #anyways gonna be listening to the soundtrack (which goes so hard) for the next week #actually my second complaint is that the theater was almost out of tickets so i had to sit in the very front row and my neck HURTS #hm. mayhaps it's time to watch tale of the princess kaguya #it's one of like 4 ghibli films i haven't seen and i've been putting it off because i KNOW it's gonna wreck me #i watched grave of the fireflies 5 years ago and still haven't recovered #my posts

I was wondering if maybe you have seen any of the Spiderverse movies and if you enjoyed them? I thought you might like it because a lot of love went into the different animation styles and there're a lot of big whump characters considering it's meant to be a "kid's movie"

It's currently evening (actually it's nearly midnight), timezones are strange huh?

I have seen the Spiderverse movies and I did enjoy them! The latest one is the first movie I've seen I think since 2019. (Being disabled means I'm still masking up in most places and not doing most things and until everyone else decides to mask up to protect me, I'm fucked basically for my life ever getting back to normal again).

But anyway, I did enjoy it. :) I don't really actively ship anyone (haven't looked for fic) but if I did, it would absolutely be Miles and er, the character we meet right at the end ;) (I don't want to say, because spoilers).
