I'm gonna froth at the mouth over this in the tags so bear with me but reason #1278038 why the way rick went about breaking up jiper was bad: rereading her povs in hoo where she gushes over jason feels like even more of an unreliable narrator queer girl comphet psychological horror story

#it's not that that isn't interesting (it's fascinating actually. especially for a daughter of aphrodite!!!)#it's that it Obviously wasn't his og intention. the ending of hoo is clearly intended to give a positive impression of jiper #this is worsened because shelper is wildly underdeveloped so it's like Dude what did you even do this for #literally just an afterthought. a footnote really. he said “ok here's your canon sapphic rep pls stop shipping theyna now” /j #she was a main character in one of the main couples in hoo it's so crazy? how can that happen. he would never do this to percabeth #can you imagine if percabeth broke up offscreen and 2 months later annabeth was with some complete rando and then percy died. girl what #it's the kind of setup/payoff issue that is difficult to put into words because he set up something (jiper and all its complex morality)#to ultimately be good because they're making the choice to love each other in the end (poorly executed but whatever I don't hate it)#and then in toa????? he just obliterates them for no payoff and creates a new impression of the most literal case of comphet imaginable? wh #toa is my absolute least favorite sorry #marginally related but if we can Be. Rey, who is in my very biased opinion, one of the funniest "girls" I have because she's just a guy, truly. Like Rey is just short for Reynold because he was recruited by a a goddess to help the hero she selected and the hero is conveniently Reynold's younger brother. So he agrees to help under the condition that the goddess gives him a female body for the other world. She's like "really odd flex but whatever" and gives him a female form and he's like "you know. I can't really blame anyone but myself for not specifying 'please don't turn me into a Lisa Frank personification'."

#my characters #ya know since i draw daily idk if ill do any challenges this month #i know theres a LOT of them out there but i might hold off and do huevember as a challenge and let this month just be chill #for what its worth he only asks for a female body because his baby brother (like 10 years younger than him)#commented ONE TIME ugh its so weird to have you dote on me like this #why couldnt you have been an older sister or look less suspicious #so when sent to help his brother hes like RIGHT GOT IT GIRL TIME LIKE THE MOST LOGIC COURSE OF ACTION #then does a really good job at helping the hero and then gets abducted by the demon army and #as rey keeps challenging the demons checking on him in the dungeon (who are all very kind?) to just interrogate him already #and they just ask why would they do that? they just wanted her outta the way for a bit #cause they dont actually want to hurt anyone and then the demon lord keeps personally visiting rey and continues #to point out how she gives him a headache and how the core is different than the shell #and so then he offers to revert rey back to his original form and reynold immediately accepts #and so now hes just a guy again surrounded by v nice demons #and hes like please just be mean ive been trained to handle violence you have to stop being nice #im not used to nice ok you have to be mean or else im going to develop stockholm syndrome #and the demons are just ?? we dont .... dont know.... what that is.......... what.....#then he gets engaged to the demon lord and all is well ! he becomes the trophy husband to the demon lord #and the world is saved (it was never at risk)#i have a lot of love for the idiots in this plot #because reynold and sascha are literal husbands thinking oh no my beloved husband is only married out of convenience to meeee #and solei is the goddess who recruited him and is so mad that reynold is more of a gremlin than sascha #like why is this mere mortal somehow worse than THE DEMON LORD how in the world #and reynold runs around just adopting all of the demon army and is like yeah #ill be the trophy husband with a hundred kids and a hot 7ft tall demon husband who can change into a huge dragon #and hes really content in this role!#but for a while he does appear as rey and hates how much of a highlighter he is

I can and will write a multi page essay about the way people write and portray Richard Goranski’s lisp in fan content and why I don’t like it. this is sort of just one aspect of it, guys please actually consider how a lisp works before writing/playing him with one I’m begging you.

Rich has a tongue between teeth lisp (as opposed to the type of lisp that happens when air escapes from the sides of your teeth), meaning he makes the “sss” and “zzz” sounds with his tongue “out” (touching the top row of his teeth instead of resting behind them).

The way the tongue between teeth sort of lisp works, you only make the “th” sound on certain words. sun, spoil, and toss all require you to use the “sss” sound to pronounce them, meaning they would come out with a th lisp. The same goes for “zzz” sounding words like zebra, puzzle, and lazy. Plus some words with C like icing, voice, and circle, since in this context the C actually makes the same sound as an S.

Not all words that have an S or C in them make the speaker lisp though, which is where I think people get confused about it and write/play him with a silly sounding or inaccurate lisp. Words like share, show, and sheet make a “shh” or a shush sound, which usually wouldn’t have a th lisp attached to it :))

Something I recommend if you’re ever playing him or just generally any character who lisps, be conscious not to speak with your tongue out the entire time. I see a lot of the people who play him just keeping their tongue between their teeth throughout entire sentences while trying to recreate a lisp, and it changes the pronunciation of ALL their words which a lisp wouldn’t do.

Also, when writing a lisp, it’s really repetitive to read anything that constantly emphasizes it. You don’t have to write “thally thellth thea thellth by the thea thore” it’s difficult to read and makes the content less accessible overall, it’s okay to write the words normally and THEN emphasize how they’re spoken, one or two mentions of a lisp is enough to get the point across without constant repetition. Plus then it’s not crowding up your writing and taking all that effort to figure out.

Honestly all I’m saying is to think about how speech impediments work before trying to write/mimic them, genuinely though at most it mildly annoys me so there’s no anger or anything behind this post. It’s something I like talking about + I like rich so he gets to be part of this too.
