i put t.lj on and this movie is just so cozy to me. Absolute comfort movie - ironically! - that I can easily leave on in the background. It's wonderful. I love my husband so much 😌

huh. not super sure how i feel about this :')
#so they're just...back?#i truly did not think they would come back lmao#many emotions about it! need to process#because like....they filled up so much of my head and heart for years#like probably a solid 4 years of no other fandom being able to come close#and then finally something broke through (yay football lmao)#and the space for them in my heart gradually lessened#until events really slammed it shut against them#and then context and nostalgia made some space for them again#but it is a very cautious and weary space because like#they still did some shit#but much shit was also done to them#it was just shit! all around!#so yeah!! no clue how i'm feeling#i think a lot of relief that they're ok and together#residual fondness#residual annoyance#it's a lot!#ugh whatever i've got football things to focus on lmao#(sorry football followers please move along this is too much to explain)

okay I have fixed up the sexual assault plotline and I'm feeling much better about it 👍
#need to work that in better and be clearer about it#i've come up with some stuff and shifted things around and i already like it a lot more#maybe i need to tackle each strand of the story on its own first and weave them together later#because pulling this whole polished timeline plus character arcs out of your ass is difficult and hella daunting#i need to look at everything individually or else i'm not going to do anything at all#it's a lot!#rayrambles

There's something hilarious about how so much subsequent media has positioned Vampires and Werewolves as, like, binary opposite entities, and then you read Dracula (1897) and realize that wolves are that guy's preferred solution to every problem. You'd say something to Dracula about "ah yes, werewolves, vampires' great eternal enemies," and he'd just be like "you mean my subcontractors?"

I just think everyone should take a moment to consider the question "what is your visual shorthand for cruelty?" and then follow it up with a critical "and who taught you that?"
specific examples include but are not limited to
why is an evil timeline character design disabled? (why do the heroes go through equally punishing battles and never lose an arm, a leg, an eye?)
why are the futuristic scifi terrorists uniformly darker skinned? (why are the heroes so much lighter?)
why is the greedy boss fat? (why are the heroes skinny?)
why is the criminal mastermind heavily scarred? (why is the brooding, traumatized hero unscathed?)
why is the predatory creep a bearded person in a dress and makeup? (why are none of the heroes trans women?)
who taught you that this is how things are?
how long do you plan on repeating it?
