The idea that Duke is the super well-behaved and rule-following kid is really funny to me cause like, have you read Robin War? His bit in that book opens with him being arrested for wearing red shoes (long story, just know he was also wearing a red hoodie that apparently wasn't a problem) and he explains step by step to the cop exactly how he plans on escaping before executing that escape perfectly by jumping off a bridge. He fought an armored Jim Gordon, the Court of Owls, and Damian who had been manipulated into joining the Court. Duke managed to talk Damian down while getting his ass kicked and then kinda befriended the kid after. He also has defied Batman several times and was proven to be right. All with a healthy dose of sass.
But also I do like lil rule-following sweetheart Duke so I have a proposal. Duke Thomas who follows the rules he agrees with. Most of the time, he's the sweet little angel in the manor. He's polite, he's well-mannered, he's kind, and he does what he's told. However that's only because everything aligns with what he believes to be the right path. The moment Bruce makes a bad call or order, Duke takes it to 11 and becomes more impossible to order around than Jason. Chaotic Good Duke.
#even Wayne Family Adventures has a kind shy boy Duke and not the foul-mouthed asskicker#which to be fair the batfam already has plenty of those#all im saying is it takes a lot of spine to be THE gotham daytime vigilante#the wayne family#batfamily#batfam#the waynes#batman wayne family adventures#wayne family adventures#duke thomas#signal dc#robin#robin war#we are robin#batman family#batman#i mean i know the cop was just using the robin laws as an excuse to arrest a black kid#but i just thought it was funny he pointed to the shoes and not the bright red fucking hoodie#the signal#dc comics

Interview With the Vampire (2022-) is one of the best adaptations of anything ever because it is clearly made with so much love for the original text but it also is very open about critiquing the books while also existing in perfect, constant conversation with it. every change made is a strong writing choice on its own, but it is also made 10x stronger when viewed not just as an alteration of the original but an evolution.
louis being black and a brothel owner rather than a plantation owner is a really fucking smart idea all by itself. but it also directly furthers the differences in worldview between louis and lestat from the books. daniel being older, smarter, keener - much more obsessed with the truth - is an excellent conceit on its own, but its even better when we know that this is round 2 of the interview. he's learned from the awful way the interview went in the books, and now hes here for the truth. devils minion being a dance that arguably stretches decades (even if there wasnt a chase arc in the 70s!) only heightens their game of cat and mouse. armand being an adult physically and also being a POC is fucking inspired, both for how it places him in contrast to louis, and also because it allows them to avoid casting a minor in a very sexual role while still keeping the same dynamic (i.e. the frequent infantilization/fetishization of POC, especially asians).
The fact that some people are mad about its adaptation style boggles my mind, because I honestly think this set a new fucking standard for what adaptations should be. I'm insane about it. If they aren't changing the game like IWTV 2022 who even cares anymore.
#iwtv#interview with the vampire#'but eva' you might say#'daniel cutting through the bullshit in a show about unreliable narration is overly simplistic!'#'it means theyve given themself a character who can cut through the bullshit and explain whats going on'#and to that i say. fair point. BUT.#i think daniel being a regular beacon of the truth makes it all the more obfuscating when hes wrong and/or unreliable himself#and also: its better tv. its the same reason people like watching shows about lawyers and journalists and detectives#but minus the cop apologia#its just fucking fun to see people get called on their shit

here's the thing. I have never gotten an accurate diagnosis from a doctor. not once in my entire life. everything that anyone has ever figured out is wrong with me I have had to figure out BY MYSELF, ON THE INTERNET. and then I either fix it myself or if I absolutely HAVE to have a doctor's prescription for the thing that will fix me then I will go do the little doctor dance where I pretend I don't really know for sure but I have a mutual friend who works in the mental health field and she really seems to think I have this thing. and then they are like well if someone else thinks it too then you are clearly bothering other people with your symptoms which is the criterion for whether you should get help or not. and then they prescribe me the correct medication because I have FOOLED them into practicing effective medicine on me. I have BAMBOOZLED them into properly diagnosing and prescribing for me. a doctor is not a wise or clever or well informed person who can help you figure out what is going on with your body. a doctor is the janky branch you pick up off the ground to whack your frisbee down from a tree because your arms are too short. it's not even a good tool, it's just all you've got.
#i am very tired and in a lot of pain so it's possible i'm not being entirely fair right now#but can we all collectively turn against doctors the way we did against the cops#because basically i have. i have the same instinctive recoil from a doctor that i do from a cop#like okay you're an enemy. i'm playing it cool but you are my enemy and I'm not relaxed#psir

Honestly despite my feelings about how the last arc of MHA went down I really love Deku and his story.
I just feel like a lot of the time we get these protagonists whose whole philosophy is it doesnât matter what you were born as everyone can achieve greatness. But then the series goes on and it turns out that actually it DOES matter because the protagonist has this really great lineage and these really great powers you can only have through birth they were actually born born, predestined if you will, to do this.
But MHA actually sticks to its guns. Midoriya wasnât revealed to have some great connection to all might that the universe had put in place. He wasnât defended from some great lineage that makes him uniquely suited to this. Hell All for one didnât even turn out to be his father, there was no hidden powerful quirk he was always meant to have. He was just Midoriya Izuku a boy who was in the right place at the right time and simply decided to act while the world did nothing. And thatâs what really made him a hero.
I donât know, maybe itâs just me, but I believe him a bit more when he goes anybody can be a hero if you just decide to act
#also never stop crying baby I love taht about you#like I do understand that being given one for all an extremely powerful quirk is kind of a cop out#but still the quirk was passed down to him because of his own merits not becayse it was pre destined or because he was born to weird it#and honestly thatâs more than weâve got in a long time.#yes this is a little bit of a naruto call out cause I will never get over that complete 180 đ#and it does randomly drop that little tidbit of how it was good luck Midoriya was quirkless or the quirk would have killed him young#but honestly I donât even know what to make of that besidesâŠâŠyay?#also yeah thatâs pretty realistic sometimes disabilities make your more suited for somethings so yeah#this isnât me implying that other protagonists didnât work hard by the way I know they did two things can be true at once#bakugo proves that. like he is was born with an extremely powerful quirk but nobody can say he doesnât work hard#itâs just a little tiring to see this underdog character suddenly get a backstory thatâs like sike you actually needed to be born to do thi#one piece does this a little bit to be fair to them the story doesnât really emphasize anyone can do it that way it has different themes#about what family means and itâs all about inherited will so I can give it a pass#but yeah I really appreciate mha for sticking to that gun even though it dropped the ball on a lot of things#like never fully addressing the quirkless people can be heroes too thing but thatâs a topic for next time#throwing thoughts to the void#deku#mha#my hero academia#mha meta#mha analysis#midoriya izuku#izuku midoriya#one for all#mha deku#bhna#boku no hero acedamia

Not to go too deep into a kids movie but did the cop Judy Hopps in Zootopia break the law and blackmail a citizen to improve her position in her career
Like sure what he was doing was illegal but like
as a cop
that's way more fucked up than selling stolen ice cream right
like,,,do you deserve your position at that point even if you solved the case,,,,
#I FEEL LIKE ITS FAIR TO SAY THIS BC THIS MOVIE IS SO OBVIOUSLY TRYING TO REFLECT IRL MODERN DAY ISSUES#sidrabbles#the way nick becomes a cop at the end felt so#strange fudhewjkedf

same people that reblog shit about there being no morality in death or how their against punitive justice will say that killing the league was the best end for them. y'all hear how you sound, right?

you fuckers are really hating on travis when hes literally a he/him lesbian, also the wilderness is literally a metaphor for girlhood do you really think it wouldve let him survive if he wasnt at least a little girl coded ?
#a bunch of ppl have said this in more smarter ways but i feel like the yj fandom needs to be reminded of this every once in a while#also hes just genuinely a fascinating character?? like he saved his girlfriend only to have to eat his brother#he ate his brothers heart RAW#literally that scene is so insane and underrated#like yall went crazy about shauna eating jackies ear (which fair because it is gen insane) but not over travis eating his brothers heart ra#(which equally as insane)#any ways sorry for the rant my tags are always so long đ#i am gonna make a more analysis type post on this once i rewatch the show#yellowjackets#travis martinez#travnat#(its not my fav ship but its still toxic yuri so i have no choice but to stan)#javi martinez#đ#also i get not wanting to see any men in this show about women but guys please heâs literally just a girl as well#hate on jeff or waltor or kevyn or the weird cop dude just leave travis alone đđđ#also not girl coded in the way some men are. hes girl coded in the more literal sense#gender fluid travnat my beloved they are so t4t <33

This is a very specific problem to have, but every time Brennan or a player says the name "Cosmo" in NSBU my brain autofills that as "Cosmo Cola" from hit disney channel original movie My Step-Sister from Planet Weird as covered by hit podcast Mom Can't Cook, where two British men care way too much about dcoms.
#this is a post for no one lmao#nsbu#never stop blowing up#to be fair 'Cosmo Cola' is no more insane as a name for a straight-laced cop than 'Cosmo Chase'

I just finished Future State: Gotham and here are my final thoughts.
Things I hated:
Jason being a cop (at the beginning, it made sense because he was manipulated to be. At the end, nope, he should have resigned)
[SPOILER] The lack of reaction from the Batfam to Dick's sacrifice??? Only Barbara speaks about it with him, but Bruce is right there. You're telling me Bruce Wayne would not lose his marbles at Dick sacrificing himself for Gotham and Damian??? You're lying. He would not be okay with it! Especially when he said just a couple of pages earlier that Dick was the heart of the Batfam! And the lack of grief in the story afterward??? Bruce would not be fine if Dick was dead! He would not be okay! That's his firstborn!
Things I loved:
Talia's characterization was gold. She is badass, she is a caring mother, she is a Batfam's member, she is not evil. I love it so much. There's one moment when she stabbed Jason, but she explains herself later as being so preoccupied with Damian, she wasn't thinking, she had no time to lose, and apologizes. She's great. (Her and Bruce aren't together, btw)
Bruce and Jason's relationship. They love each others so much, they cannot communicate for shit. Jason being like "I will beat the shit out of Hush for impersonating my father, even if it's the last thing I do!" when he was like "Bruce is not my dad!" to Rose earlier. Bruce being like "Jason, my son, I'm so happy to see you!" when he sees Jason. Jason, half dying, accepting to stop fighting with the others to assist Bruce, also half dying, the parallel between father and son. Bruce leaving Gotham for Jason to protect. Jdizbztcforc, finally some good food about them FROM DC.
Bruce not being able to be a vigilante anymore at the end, after all the fights and the torture, with a cane, looking at his baby with pride.
Dick being fucking nuts. It's so funny to me, the man loses it when his dad is dead. He is also such his father's son, to the point that other batfam's members LITERALLY tell him "You are acting just like Bruce rn, and you know that's not a good thing." but he refuses to listen. He's high on drugs, fr.
Actually, all Bruce's sons lose their mind when their father dies. They all go "I'm gonna do something so stupid because I miss my dad, watch me". Batshit insane family over here.
#batman#bruce wayne#dick grayson#jason todd#talia al ghul#dc comics#my ramblings#if you like Talia read it okay like Talia is great#Good Talia Al Ghul's writing? In my comic post 9/11? more likely than you think#Bruce punches Jason once but it's after learning he is a cop for a fascist gov and that's totally fair#I have seen people act as if Batman 666 was Evil Damian but like Damian is baby in this#he is possessed but when he isn't he is like âI love my family I don't want to hurt them :'(â#Jason being a cop is so fucking weird tho#especially when all the batfam is like âACABâ free my boy#I love acting as if Bruce gave birth to his kids yes Dick is his firstborn

i know everyone is talking about imane khelif but theres something i canât stop thinking about. The âiâve never been punched so hardâ line from the italian boxer, that left me in shock. Itâs like she genuinely thinks that the womens category is inherently a lesser one where the weaker people go to compete, and that a woman has simply no chance against a man (even though imane isnât one). To the point of forfeiting the match in 30 seconds. Even before the match media outlets were spreading misinformation against imane and saying that the italian ïżœïżœwould be massacredâ if imane were allowed to compete.
To me this specific moment highlights just how much pure sexism there is in the trans histeria. It was never about protecting women, it is about putting women âin their placeâ. Enforcing gender stereotypes about women being naturally frail and gentle and bashing all women who donât conform to these ideals.
Of course, because of how white supremacy and the patriarchy go hand in hand the biggest affected are usually women of color. If Imane were trans, intersex or cis should not matter, this is a case of policing women of color. Letâs not forget that the italian boxer is a cop with links to the italian far right.
They are using transphobia as a weapon.
#i stand with imane khelif#i cant imagine what she must be going through#she was robbed of a fair fight bc her opponent decided to throw a tantrum#also im not saying the cops name#not giving her the fame and attention she seeks
