If you want a romance and don’t want to show a woman having to labor to fix a man, you could do what The Bear did in S3, which is showing Carmy come to an end of himself. Syd has set up boundaries, and has supported the restaurant, and shielded people (but not herself) from his meltdown.

Carmy has been forced to deal with and face the way his life has been disrupted by what he learned at Empire. He has faced his nemesis and come out on the other side of it. He is back in the mode of trying to grow/change (bye C person!).

The most amazing and romantic thing Carmy could do at this point is prove himself to Syd by doing the work she first asked of him. By building something for her to return to that is good, like Carmy told both her and Marcus he wanted in Legacies.

He also needs to go rescue her from Shapiro, or at least stand beside her no matter the cost, and support her when she rescues herself. And give her that safe place to come back to, whether there is a restaurant or not, it can be him.
