That moment never seemed to come, so he simply took the book and made himself comfortable in the drawing room with a plate of cheese cubes, some sliced apples, and a glass of red wine.

A prostitute at the King’s Bear tavern scratches behind the ears of a friendly cat that sidled up to her. She’d never guess that this purring feline is the same fickle lady who rejected the affections of that butler who chatted with her about Sphere Music Hall a few months ago.

Alois marvels that the wreath of bluebells Hannah placed on the wall above his bed is as lovely and fragrant as when she first affixed it there several weeks ago.

While sharing a bed with Agni and Sebastian, Mey Rin ended up stealing all the covers in her sleep. However, she looked so cute nestled in her blanket cocoon that neither the khansama nor the demon could find it in their heart to object. Pops Anderson smiles as he passes the table in the dispatch cafeteria where Grelle Sutcliff sits chatting vivaciously with Ronald and Othello. She’s come a long way from the rage-filled young reaper who strode into the Glasses Department demanding a pair of bright red spectacles from him “because those horrid standard-issue ones do not suit my style in the damn least! Why the hell would you make a lady wear something so plain?!” Over the ensuing decades, Miss Sutcliff’s distinctive glasses came to suit her beautifully as she seized the chance to express her womanhood with pride. She wears them well.

Betty the tiger is enjoying another leisurely day at the expansive, well-funded wildlife sanctuary where Sebastian took her after rescuing her from Noah’s Ark Circus because the young master refused to let his demon keep her at the manor. Here, she is free to roam to her heart’s content, without needing to perform for jeering humans at the crack of a whip.
