Its not even the voices Aphmau needed to do in early seasons. I just have troubles where I take shows really seriously, so the no warning / no consent kissing or the people trying to find out everything about Aphmau's love life is just frustrating for me.

But on the rewatch I kind of read it differently. It makes sense that Aph’s friends would be concerned about her love life since she hasn’t been interested in anyone since high school, her mom is notorious for hating boys, and half her male friends have crushes on her and she doesn’t reciprocate any of them. It’s an interesting situation and I know I’d be concerned, especially if I was Katelyn or KC

Katelyn sees Aph as a sister and knows that she’s had bad experiences with boys in the past (Gene and Ein, though I haven’t gotten to Ein in the rewatch yet so I may be misremembering some details) so of course she’d be suspicious of Laurance and the others across the street, Aaron who’s super suspicious and used to be a bully, and Zane who is literally Zane hahah

Meanwhile, KC is obsessed with shipping and she stands as an outlier who actively analyzes relationships and pairs them together in her mind as possible relationships, with her favorites being expressed more openly and verbally like a hyperfixation. It’s problematic but also not unheard of, and I can relate to analyzing your friends and deducing their compatibility (though not so much pressuring them into pursuing that compatibility :/). In the end she just wants to see all her friends happy, and she projects her own love of romantic love onto them

(KC actually reminds me a bit of Nepeta from Homestuck but that’s a conversation for a different day)

I do think the lack of consent coming from Laurance and his roommates is very weird and disturbing, but the conscious narrative seems aware that it’s problematic while the subconscious narrative plays it off as a joke. It’s not really that funny, but I guess that’s just part of the anime tropiness of the season.

The entire show, or at least the first seasons of MyStreet and PDH, was made to feel anime tropey and unfortunately that kind of nonconsensual humor is very anime. It’s a little nuanced tho that the rest of the show explores the “after they get together” situations rarely seen in romance anime, though, as well as abandoning the nonconsensual humor in favor of villainizing it and using it to characterize antagonists (sorry Laurance fans your fav is problematic <3)

I actually kind of realized through my rewatch that Laurance was the main instigator of these inappropriate actions and it’s really his own problem to work through. The rest follow him with the frat boy mindset and only come to their senses when actually thinking on their own lol

Like, I remember as a kid there being so many jokes about Travis touching peoples butts, but as far as I remember from my rewatch they were all accidents! That’s kind of funny actually! But the normalization of predatory behavior is very weird in S1 and I’m glad it’s gone in S2

In PDH S1, it’s only slightly justified by the students all being literal children who are working through their hormones and poor coping mechanisms. Both Laurance and Garroth kiss Aphmau without her consent and then swear her to secrecy, which is toxic as hell and its protrayed as such. Gene even threatens to kiss her in front of Aaron which is a whole other thing we don’t need to discuss at length cause I’m sure you get the point by now

But PDH-Aaron notably asks permission every time he does anything romantic with Aph and it’s sweet. In S1 of MyStreet, he does kiss her after the play without verbal consent, but it’s implied she did at least nonverbally consent in later episodes when discussing what happened. Regardless, that sort of content in S1 isn’t touched upon as the story goes on which makes it a lot better to me, and it shows the growth of the author alongside her characters

A/N: okay so life is getting in the way and I can't write as much as I want to. I'm not feeling like updating the two ongoing series i have rn so you're gonna get a lot of one shots in the upcoming days hahah

This world wasn't for everyone. Bob knew that much. And yet, he didn't ask you if you wanted to be part of it. He just guessed that if you wanted to be with him, you understood and accepted the consequences. 

Being with an aviator means always fearing that every morning when your partner walks out the door, maybe that's the last time you're going to see them. You accepted that in a way, knowing the risks but also that a short amount of time with Bob in your life was better than living a life without him. 

That is what you used to tell him. But Bob knew that it had become too much for you. Because you lost that sweet, precious smile that made him fall for you. Your eyes had lost that beautiful shine, becoming voids of fear and worry. 

You stopped being yourself. And Bob knew that he was the one to blame. That he was slowly and unintentionally destroying you. 

So he did what he thought was right.

He broke up with you without many explanations. 

And boy, didn't that break his soul in a hundred pieces. 

A few weeks later, the empty shell of what once used to be Lieutenant Robert Floyd, set foot in Top Gun again, for a special detachment. He graduated a few years prior to this, but it felt like yesterday. 

Lucky for him, none of the other aviators knew him, so he wouldn't have to answer awkward questions about his partner. 

Or so he thought. 

The night before the mission, Nat and Bob sat down in the flight deck, watching as the last rays of sun painted the clouds with orange and almost red colors. Earth was a beautiful place, and people like him, Phoenix, and the others fought every day to make sure that thousands of people could live to see another sunset. 

"Hey, Bob," Phoenix asked, looking at the wizzo when he hummed in response. "Is there anyone waiting for you back home?" 

And here it was. The dreadful question. 

"There was," he answered, taking off his glasses and rubbing the sore spots. "But I broke up with her." 

"Did she cheat?" Phoenix questioned again, and Bob could almost see how a litany of profanities gathered on the tip of her tongue, ready to destroy that girl who cheated on his friend.

"No, she didn't. She was the sweetest girl." 

"Then… what happened?" 

"This life was destroying her. She didn't smile that much, she wasn't happy." 

Phoenix's frown was as deep as the sea in front of them. "She told you that?" 

"No, I just knew." Bob said, putting on his glasses again. "She never had to tell me."

"Not even when you explained to her why you broke up with her? Weird."

Bob looked down for a second, embarrassment spreading over his body. "I never told her why I broke up with her." 

"You're shitting me."

Bob's sad chuckle confirmed that, in fact, he wasn't lying. And that made Phoenix feel ten times worse. "Bob! You were worried about her, and maybe she was as worried as you were! You lost a girl that loved you because you never sat down to ask and just assumed that she wasn't strong enough to be a Navy girlfriend?" 

"...I fucked up, didn't I?"

"Oh, buddy. That doesn't cover it." 

Next day, after successfully destroying the target, Bob and the other members of the team find themselves in a coffin corner, being followed by missiles. The wizzo realizes that he has messed up more than he can ever put into words. Because right there and then, while looking at the sky in what could be his last living seconds, all he could think about was you, your voice, your touch, and your smile. He wants his last thoughts to be about you, and only you. 

Eventually, they manage to escape and come back to the carrier in one piece, even Maverick and Rooster, who had crashed their planes to save each other. 

After the mandatory celebrations due to a job well done, Bob sits down in the flight deck, thinking over and over about you, and how, maybe, it’s not too late to come back, apologize, and win you back. 

Little did he know at that moment that his team members had a great surprise in store. 

“Okay guys, I think we should all head to the Hard Deck and properly celebrate that the mission is over.” Hangman says, patting Bob’s back. “And you’re coming too, buddy.” 

“I wish I could, but… I have some important matters to attend to.” Retorts Bob, grabbing his bag to step off the carrier. 

“Nope, nope, nope.” Nat insists while getting the bag from Bob’s hands. “I’m keeping your bag so you can’t leave.” 

Bob, who just wanted to get out of here and run to your house, quite literally, so he could ask for forgiveness, is getting a bit mad about his friends’ sudden interest in throwing a party. “Guys, I don’t want to be a dick, but you better give me my bag right now.”

“Woah, hermano, relax! It’s just a party.” Mickey says, placing both hands on Bob's shoulders to make him walk to the end of the deck. 

“I don’t want a damn party, I want to go and beg Y/n to take me back!” 

For the first time since they knew him, Bob raised his voice, noticing the redness of his face and ears. He’s really mad. 

“You don’t need to beg.” 

Bob almost whimpers when he hears that voice coming from behind him. He watches the faces of his friends, from Payback’s small smile, to Nat’s teary-eyed grin. He turns around, slowly, afraid that it’s just a dream, or worse, that this is just the afterlife, that he died on the mission, and he has reached his personal heaven where you, the love of his life, welcome him with open arms, like his own personal angel. 

“Y/n?” He whispers, his wobbly legs moving him slowly in your direction. “Are you really here?” 

“It’s me, Robby. I promise.” You chuckle, and Bob is starting to think that the idea of him being dead is not as absurd as it seemed in the first place. How could he hear the divine cadence of your laugh or see your shiny, beautiful eyes if he wasn’t in heaven? 

“I died in that mission, right?” He mumbles once he’s only inches away from you, your soft hands caressing his cheeks. 

“No, idiot. Nat called me and told me everything you told her about me not being happy anymore and whatever stupid thought you had.” You shake your head and take a deep breath. “Honey, my work as your partner is worrying about you. It’s the only thing I can do.”

“But I don’t want you to always be worried about me not coming back one day.” Bob insists, placing his hands over yours, which are still on his face. “You should be happy.” 

“And I’m happy, love. Because when you get back from a mission, I know that the world is a bit of a better place and that you are safe and home with me. You don’t need to push me away to protect me, okay? I’ll be with you, every day, every night, as long as you want me.” He presses his forehead against yours, closing his eyes as silent tears wet your fingertips. 

“Even if the world ends tonight?” He asks, a silly question he asked once after too many beers. It became an important thing for you two. 

“Even if the world ends tonight, there’s no other place I’d rather be. Here with you.”

“What did I ever do to deserve you?” 

“Well, from what I’ve heard, you and your friends saved the day.” You kiss his forehead, trying to make him feel better. “Robert Floyd, I know that you think I deserve better. But, be honest, can I even get anything better? You’re the perfect package!” 

“I’m not perfect.” Bob argues, opening his eyes to see a scowl on your face. 

“You might not be perfect, but you’re perfect for me, and that’s all I care about.” You finally say, a smile accompanying your words. 

Bob sighs, smiling at last, for what feels like the first time in weeks. “I love you so much, angel.” 

“I love you too, honey.” 

“Can you, like, I don’t know, kiss?” Rooster yells from a few feet away, the Dagger nodding to his words. 

“Have you been watching?” Bob asks, his eyes widening. 

“Of course! We brought her, now you kiss her and come with us to party, not only to celebrate that the mission is over, but that you got your girl back!” Javy says, looking at you. “And I’m sure that Mrs. Floyd over here wants to meet all of us.” 

“Of course I want to meet Bob’s new friends!” You nod, looking at Bob’s rolling eyes. “Come on, we stay a bit, and then we go. Just a bit.” 

“Okay, we’ll go to the Hard Deck.” He pauses for a second and tilts his head. “Did he call you Mrs. Floyd?” 

“I like how it sounds…” You sheepishly admit, walking away to introduce yourself to the other aviators.

re: melia & emma

I've been thinking about this for awhile now. The way that the newest version of the Blacksteeple Castle chapter has presented Emma is interesting. There will be spoilers ahead, so don't read if you're still working your way through version 13.5!

My ramblings begin below. Here are some official pics (by the amazing Zumi) for reference.

As we know, during the events of Blacksteeple Castle, Melia wore a disguise to hide her true identity. This disguise is removed when Madame X slashes it with her sword. There is a small animation that follows, where a dark magical aura envelopes “Emma” before she is revealed to be Melia.

After the subsequent chaos, the disguise is not brought up again. However, the character of Emma is revealed to still reside in Melia’s cognition, apparently unbeknownst to Melia, as she says, “I thought I left you behind at Blacksteeple”. How odd.

Then, (a long time) later, while exploring the 3rd Layer, Melia stumbles across a deathbed journal entry written by a Garufa Inc. volunteer named Emma. It reads as follows.

My name is Emma. I undertook the Archetype's power today, and it failed miserably. I was unable to manifest its power and was mortally wounded during a test. I thought I actually had potential... but I guess not. The doctors say I don't have long left. It's cruel, isn't it? Life is just so cruel. But this is the path me and all the other volunteers chose. Humanity has nothing left but us. ...Is it all worth it in the end, though? What do we want to survive for? ...Anyway. I'm losing energy fast. Garufa Incorporated is our last hope. Please, save us.

Melia expresses to Nim that she finds it odd that this person and her Blacksteeple cover share a name. Nim passes this off as a coincidence, and understandably so. Emma isn’t exactly a rare name (though perhaps things are different in the world of rejuvenation?). The coincidence still seems to bother Melia for some reason.

Now, there are a LOT of theories about Melia out there. Despite hours and hours of gameplay, her true identity has yet to be revealed.

People have theorized for years that she is Maria, and the game seems to heavily imply that that is the case. If Anathea had four children, Erin, Maria, Alice, and Allen, and Erin, Melia, Alice, and Allen know that they share a mother, Anathea, then it would logically follow that Melia is Maria. In addition, Melia and Maria physically resemble each other, Melia is unsure of her origins prior to meeting Jenner, and Maria has not otherwise made an appearance in the current timeline (besides the whole Marianette ordeal in Gearen Sewers). So, it’s not exactly a dramatic leap.

It is eventually even addressed by the characters themselves.  When Erin directly asks for her opinion on this matter, Melia balks, and seemingly contradicts herself.

MELIA: Hahah... I guess I've known for a long time that I was Maria. Ever since our interaction with Angie, that name has been going through my head in my dreams. But I have to disagree, Erin. I am not Maria. ERIN: But out of the process of elimination, you must be. MELIA: Sorry, but it's true. That's what my mind is telling me, desperately. I am not Maria. I am not Maria. That's what echoes in my head.

If Melia is and is not Maria, then… how…? In what way? Who is she? Why would she share a connection with Erin? Why is she the only one with Genesis Syndrome? And what does Emma have to do with all of this? I don’t really have an answer. But there is something I want to muse on.

Let’s circle back to Melia’s “disguise”, if we can even call it that. Her cover as Emma made her look like an entirely different person, unrecognizable to the Player character. She has a different outfit, hair color, and eye color. If we are to believe that this is an ordinary disguise, we would need to believe that, with one slash, Madame X was able to tear through a wig, two color contacts, and an entire outfit, including thigh high boots. We would need to believe that Melia conveniently decided to wear a different outfit underneath this disguise, and that Madame X was able to slash off her exterior outfit without marring the one underneath. We would also need to believe that the special, dark, magical animation the occurs at this moment was purely aesthetic and meaningless.

So, yeah, I don’t really believe it this disguise is your regular, run-of-the-mill costume.

We learn that Melia was sent to Blacksteeple through the powers of Spacea and Tiempa. She was on a mission as a Storm Chaser, to save the Player character and gather information. As we know (all too well) from V13.5, Spacea and Tiempa are powerful. Specifically, they have powers over space and time akin to Palkia and Dialga. They use these powers pretty recklessly to manipulate many characters throughout the story. However, every instance of power they exhibit is strictly tied to their dimensions, space and time. Spacea does magic related to space. Tiempa does magic related to time. So, how, then, would they be able to create such a magical disguise for Melia? Through Garufan dress-up magic? Creating an illusion? Maybe. I wouldn’t be shocked. But I think it’s more than that. I think that Spacea and Tiempa used their magic to revive a version of Melia from the past, a different dimension, or a different “layer” (past world?). Perhaps… the third layer. A different appearance. A different life. Emma.

I think of it sort of like what happened with Narcissa during the Dufaux sidequest. But, instead of S+T directly swapping Melia with Emma, they just projected the appearance of Emma onto Melia.

There isn’t much to support or detract from this speculation. What we do know? We know that Melia is and is not Maria. We know that both Melia and Emma struggle to manifest the Archetype's power. We know that Emma resides in Melia’s cognition, like Melanie. We know Melia was deeply bothered by Emma’s journal entry in the Third Layer. We know that the outfit Melia dons when using her powers is very reminiscent of Emma’s.

We also know that Emma is dead.

Or, at least, presumed dead.

Just like Aevis, Aevia, Aria, Axel, Aero, and Alain.

You see where I’m going with this?

We know Emma dies disappointed, having believed she had “potential”, according to her journal entry. Did someone else think she had potential too? Perhaps, her “majesty” herself?

I know I’m not the only one to theorize that Melia is another Interceptor. I mean, it is heavily implied throughout the story. Melia is one of two characters for which we have seen Variya appear. Oh boy. I'm probably not the best person to ask about what ships are and aren't problematic because I honestly... just don't have the energy to care about it that much, it's like infinitely easier to block/blacklist and then move on. I don't know how people have the free time to get as worked up about it as they do.

Anyway. So, Ky's age before Missing Link (the earliest in the timeline of the games' stories) is generally the biggest problem. He was 20 in ML and a teenager through the Crusades. I think he was probably at least 18 near the end of the Crusades right before Sol left but that's pushing it. Anything with Ky and Order Sol's bad weird. I won't argue that at all, Ky was a kid and Sol was very much an adult, on top of the physical and mental power imbalance between them. Not good. Luckily, I really only see HOS/Ky stuff from the really early fandom (<2006) and IIRC their ages were still pretty vague back then so I'm just gonna chalk it up to no one knowing, especially in the EN fandom where it was a lot harder to find/get official information.

Between Missing Link to like late GGX/early GGXX I don't see what the problem with shipping them then is; they were both adults at that point and there wasn't even the power dynamic between them that there was during their Holy Order days. This, I think, really just comes down to personal reasons for not liking it. Which is fair.

After GGXX it gets... complicated.... Ky marries Sol's daughter but it's vague on when exactly Sol pieced it together that he even had a kid and that it was Dizzy, of all people. Ky definitely did not know she was Sol's kid until at least like partway through Xrd, when they both kind of put the pieces together and had a crisis over it. So shipping them after this point, between the timelines of Overture through Strive, you've got the issue of Sol now being Ky's father-in-law.

But the canon never straight up says Dizzy is Sol's kid (it is VERY HEAVILY implied though) and Sol and Ky both end up being dads together for Sin...?? It's like ASW is playing gay chicken with whether or not Sol and Ky are still shippable from an ethical standpoint lol Whatever that saying is about having a cake and eating it too, etc.

I saw the email for this ask this morning and I presented the Sol/Ky situation to my mom as if they were real people (she doesn't know anything about GG) and she was like, "That's a hell of a love triangle but I guess if the guy (Ky) and the daughter (Dizzy) got divorced and the daughter is alright with it, and it's consensual between the men, then it's weird but it's not as bad as some other relationships I've seen."

That's kind of how I feel about it too...? It's messy as fuck lmfao But I guess if there's a way to like write it so that Dizzy doesn't end up needing lifetime therapy then like... go for it....? I guess....???

I don't ship Sol/Ky because I think their dynamic is WAAAYYYY more interesting keeping them as rivals-turned-friends, and I like Dizzy too much; there's too big a chance of her ending up getting completely devastated by it. oh yeah this scene is really just so sweet guys. like. okay, we get a look into misaki and seeing how is opening up to akihiko. he's all, in his thoughts: these conversations happen, we're together, we are intimate more, we spend out time togehter, i feel okay when usagi says to feel okay (implying that he has opened up to usagi in ways he hadn't been doing. that misaki is truly falling for usagi. like it's not the whole: "i love you/i don't love you" take anymore.) but then it's like reality does hit him (and maybe it should) that he and akihiko are so different, they're from two different worlds and after he thinks all those things he says: i am almost tricked into believing him.

I think what we can take away from this is that Misaki has very real concerns about the reality of their relationship. In a way that, maybe because Usagi is older, he doesn't... It really seems, a lot of the time, that the world is very black and white to Usagi. It's a "i want it, i get it" type of world, because it's always been that way and maybe that is why he fell so hard for misaki because misaki gave him a different look at the way the world really is.

And here we see Usagi, ONCE AGAIN, begging and pleading and praying with Misaki.

Usagi: Fall in love with me, love me 10x and 20x more than you love me now and become unable to part with me. That's all you have to do. I'll protect you from everyone else in this world, without fail.

It's just... I feel bad for Usagi, and I hate to be this person but I understand where Papa Usami is coming from. Hahah... I have read it! And I think it's basically implied that he did it so that he could see her combat skills for himself or something, from what I remember? And no, I don't think L is really the huggy type, at least not when Ohba and Obata are taking the reins 😅 Just some cringey comic relief of some sort, is my best guess about things

I am gonna spoiler the answers to these as they deal with what I have implied in the audios, but not explicitly stated. These will spoil my thoughts behind the Queen's Pack storyline:

Troublemaker will not have an optional story. One of the characters will be a final love interest for Troublemaker.

I was intentional as to who I introduced Monroe and Grey. One was introduced as an obsessive, controlling ex, the other was introduced attempting to heal and protect. While both characters have faults and will be experiencing a lot of growth, one cannot grow while in a relationship with Troublemaker.

As for Aries... I guess we are gonna have to wait and see 🥰

"My daughter wishes to learn to play the koto," the older man says.

He clears away an empty bowl and a set of cups, taking them behind the counter of the izakaya stall. Behind the softly wafting steam, his face is cut in sharp lines, like ones etched in a woodblock by an artisan's hand. But the gentle fondness in his eyes as he speaks of his daughter softens the look of what must have been a once-prideful youth.

"Oh? Is that right, Shibata-san? How time catches up upon us like a tiger! How old is she now—six? Seven?"

The answering reply is from Malek, a regular at Shibata-san's stall—though he has the thin look common to many scholars of the Akademiya, there is a suggestion of strength in the set of his shoulders, in the expertly tied knots of the bags to his hip, the sheathed dagger at his belt.

i think i generally don’t prefer just like. Jumping right into a scene from the main pov character hahah. this was a fun bit of easing into the rest of the fic in a sideways way through some slight worldbuilding painting---the koto mention was a choice as one of the intentional threads of something that reminds the Wanderer of Inazuma (something something he cut himself off from his home but can’t help longing for it regardless when he gets reminders of it :)) 2. these sunlit days our hands engrave Zhongli/Childe, slight sideways AU for Genshin Impact

In a certain kingdom, there lived a boy in a village. He seemed no different from any other boy his age—half-wild and restless, a fledgling eagle not yet full-grown; and yet, still made tame enough by affection to return to his family's humble home by nightfall, where warm smiles and warm words were doled out in equal measure. Light shimmers before the eye, like heated oil over a wok. Through the air, the humming of cicadas seems to drown out the usual talk and bustle of the city by a hundredfold.

Outside on the second-floor balconies, waiters lean their elbows against the railings, a spare towel held against the sweat on their foreheads, their pose thoroughly languorous. Children walk with their families, tugging on their parents' hands while whining for sweet dessert soups from nearby food stalls—for the flavors of shaved ice and sour plums, or mung beans chilled and sweetened with sugar.

u can tell that. i loveee social intrigue in my fandoms and also in my fic, especially for ayato :)))) (his trailer was soooo cool with the mention of assassins Aghhhhhhh). i wasn’t sure if ayato’s lines were hitting a more pretentious note than not, but i like how it ended up

5. after the hundredth night of waiting Zhongli/Childe, Genshin Impact

Childe's gaze is drawn to Zhongli's gloves. The creature resting between his palms is a small, delicate thing. Barely bigger than the bulb of an ice flower, feathers green-blue in the firelight. Qing 青—the color of spring, as Zhongli had once explained to Childe, a stem of qingxin clasped between his fingertips, their buds still veiled in pale green. 

the bird fic......this was more of an extended metaphor but i really do like this beginning and also the seasonal appropriateness of it

6. a poem, halfwritten Zhongli/Childe, Genshin Impact

  Zhongli lowers his cup to the table, sliding it over to rest besides its partnering wine pitcher. Both equally empty, though the taste of the wine leaves a pleasant sweetness on his tongue. 

zhongli is just elegantly drinking here. he’s so cool *chinhands*
