So on Sinedd's integration in the team...

While everyone else, even D'jok, seem to have accepted Sinedd back well enough, Mice still hates him and literally gags at the idea of him being on the team. I kind of wish his objection was taken more seriously in the writing – the narrative acts as if D'jok is the main person that has to settle his scores with Sinedd, but forgets that Micro-Ice was Sinedd's main target for years, and according to that flashback, they used to be a trio (although from the flashback you could also say Sinedd didn't care for him back then either lol). His reaction is pretty understandable and although he should still be keeping it professional, they shouldn't really expect him to forgive him. That dynamic could have been interesting, but we never get a confrontation or any closure between the two because Micro-Ice as a character is just there to be laughed at this season.

When Maya calls D'jok she kind of makes it sound like they should accept Sinedd because he's had it hard, which I'm not a huge fan of. First of all because in this season they had her act more as a guardian to Sinedd than D'jok, who also lost himself down the wrong path for a while there, but also because I think the reasoning for accepting him should be that he has swallowed his pride and is genuinely trying to be a better person. Otherwise it sounds a bit like “having a sob story is a justification for acting out”. I know that wasn't the intention, but still, it's in the details.

But Maya is right that D'jok and Sinedd are parallels of each other. Both grew up without their biological parents, both are extremely competitive and put huge importance on their ambitions and success, both are prone to lashing out at others when distressed. But D'jok was luckier and had an adoptive mother, and ended up with good friends who could keep him in check. They turned out differently due to different upbringing but both made mistakes and hurt others – D'jok knows this so is more humble and doesn't give Sinedd a hard time. Sinedd also saved his life, so there's that too.

Rocket: Even if D'jok and Sinedd are rivals, they're still like brothers.

UMMMMMMMMM that's taking it too far. Sinedd running off to the Shadows wasn't what put them against each other, neither was the fact he dated Mei. He was already being unpleasant all the time in season 1 and it was implied it has been that way for a long time. D'jok didn't show any regret or whatever in season 1 - he had no problem responding to Sinedd's provocations with taunts about him not having friends LOL. If they were like brothers, it was way too long ago for Rocket to be making that comment

Anyway I like this convo between D'jok and Sinedd and how it ends, for all the reasons that they're parallels as I mentioned above. But the first few lines are a bit funny because D'jok actually HASN'T been fighting him lately, it sounds as if they're making up after fighting about Mei but that's... not really what's been happening? But moving on, this is functionally an apology from Sinedd, but again he should apologise to Mice too.

Also with Sinedd saying he wants to be a good person now so his family can be proud of him... ehhhh I still think his development should have started earlier. His whole problem was that his response to growing up without family was to put others down – so the solution is to... give him a family so he'll stop doing that? I'm simplifying it but I just think it would be more impactful if he tried to turn things around before meeting his actual parents. Sure, they can still be a motivation and encourage him, but yeah.

I mean it still works with him finding his parents, realising that love and affection was all he wanted and that he was wrong to take it out on others... but at least bring the parents in earlier in the season because as it is, it's just too rushed. Honestly you could just get rid of the fake parents storyline – it was done so we can see Sinedd at his low point, but you could already have him like that after the events of season 2. It would feel like a natural continuation and you can bring the real parents in earlier.

Last note: MAN does the voice acting suck here lol

Aw Dame Simbai stepping in to do the speech giving now that Aarch is gone, it's nice to see how much she cares about this team succeeding too. But a bit hyperbolic to say this is the most important match of their lives, as opposed to the other finals :P

The players have been using the flux more externally lately, like shooting it at the ball instead of just using it to power themselves up. I feel like this has been happening more since the Paradisia final where they had to use flux to evacuate the planet, which makes sense

It's so funny how due to losing the Breath, Sinedd is just free-falling for like 100m but it cuts away to show the other players losing their flux LOL. RIP Sinedd, what a way to go.

Kind of interesting that compared to the Shadows last season, who physically didn't seem affected by the loss of flux (they just suddenly sucked at football. love that match), the Akillians are immediately drained physically and wiping out.

Maybe one day Sonny can just watch his son play in the GFC final without having to save the galaxy at the exact same time, but until then it's business as usual

Y'know considering how much time D'jok spent with team Paradisia I feel like they should have had more moments of rivalry in this match but hey ho

I know it's just animation reuse but Sinedd scoring the final goal with the exact same move D'jok scored his first epic goal with is pretty poetic. And of course Sinedd generally being the one to score that point (but still, couldn't we get some new animation for the winning goal?)

The way they animate Harris really looks like they wanted him to be like the Joker

They really settled the Team Paradisia stuff with one sentence about them being taken care of by Chief Maddox huh. I suppose they were gonna put the Mark x Nina resolution in season 4? Idk, Team Paradisia deserved better

So Aarch is back to coaching, but for Club Galactik right? Makes sense, he still wants the job but this will be less intensive and will allow him more time to settle down with Adim and their future child. The Snow Kids will be just fine on their own. Well, when it comes to football anyway. Can't make any promises about Pirate-related adventures :P

Aaaaaand there it is... ok I always knew this was coming even when I watched the show for the first time, but it must have been so insane to watch back when it first aired. Like, everything is calmly wrapping up and then SUDDENLY the holo-trainer goes weird and the kids disappear with Mei and Micro-Ice. We linger on this for a few seconds aaaaaand.... THAT'S IT! END OF SEASON! I would have gone apeshit too

This is like a transporter malfunction from Star Trek lol, although I'm wondering how that can even happen, like does the holo-trainer actually teleport people then? Anyway I honestly don't care THAT much about the ending if I'm honest, like I get that it was a last ditch effort to get the show renewed as the higher ups obviously didn't have much faith in it with that budget slash, so I can easily just pretend those last few seconds didn't happen and it ended with the Snow Kids happily going into the holo-trainer to help teach the next generation. It's not great, but it doesn't really ruin the season for me

Soooooooooo uuuuuuhhhh.... that was it! Yeeeah I'm not a huge fan of this season, but I don't hate it with a burning passion. Except at certain points. As a whole it's more,, disappointment for what could have been. I think I'm glad we have it, because it really is jam packed with interesting concepts and I think if the writing were better, it genuinely could have been the best season. The previous seasons certainly aren't ATLA-levels of writing either but the main emotional beats worked well, whereas here it's a lot more all over the place.

Generally I feel like the team behind this season had the ambition and the vision, I mean we have Sinedd redeeming himself, a multi-flux tournament, a non-Akillian joining the team, players leaving for other teams, Aarch deciding to retire and the Snow Kids being experienced and mature enough to handle that, a "main" couple not staying together since they were teenagers... all interesting things! It's not a soulless production that doesn't try to change the status quo, but I think they just didn't manage to pull it together. There was a LOT going on with a lot of characters but ultimately there wasn't enough time for the development to feel natural and stick.

Outside of that, some characters were flanderised, yeah. Looking at you, Micro-Ice. Wait, they never even finished that plotline about him, Yuki and Zo-leen! Wtf! On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised at how some characters were handled, like Mei. It would have been so easy to villainise her but they treated her with respect, which was cool. As for the other Snow Kids, a lot of it was just romance drama shoehorned in, which gets boring when the supporting cast don't have anything else going on.

Production-wise, they did the best with the budget they got but yeah it does suck because the matches with all the cool moves were one of the selling points of the series. But here most of the games just felt like "A, B and C needs to happen, and for the rest let's just throw in some filler moves". Direction is not just down to the animation itself - types of shots, camera movement, transitions, music... all these little details were lacking so the matches ended up being kinda bland in comparison to the previous seasons. There were some creative additions though, like the Elektra's flux.

I think I've already expressed my thoughts on everything else during the commentaries, so yeah it's been fun! Hope they've been fun to read ^^

Episode 16:

Nice levitation trick Simbai, but she's just allowed to use the Breath like that? Maybe because she's a flux society member? It does make me realise, since the wars were not so long ago, how many people are walking around who could previously use the the Breath all the time but now aren't allowed. That's kind of crazy!

I do like the idea of them actually learning how to use the Breath in more creative ways!

This soundtrack for Tia's training session is pretty cool

OK WHAT. SO LUN-ZIA TELLING THE WAMBAS WHERE ROCKET IS MOST LIKELY TO SHOOT IS PERFECTLY A-OK BUT D'JOK TELLING TEAM PARADISIA A LITTLE TIP ON HOW TO BEAT AHITO IS A BETRAYAL?? PLUS, in the last episode Aarch faces the SK in the holo-trainer and says he can beat them because he knows how they play, and that everyone else does too. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS SAYING WHEN I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE AHITO BETRAYAL BS. WHICH IS IT, WRITERS?!

Well at least Woowamboo seems more accepting of Lun-Zia now that he's seen her give it her all. Nice to see her settled in with the rest of the team!

I just had a thought, where is Maya in all this? We've seen Mama-Ice pop up and check on (scold XD) Micro-Ice but we didn't see Maya interact with D'jok at all? Wouldn't she have gone to see him instead of only hanging with the Snow Kids?? And now that D'jok's “retired” and hanging out by himself at Genesis, isn't she gonna look for him? She knows football was so important to him, so to give it up is a big deal! Ah well, we'll see.

Episode 17:

aww I love Artegor trying to convince D'jok to come back, especially with him telling him how hard the SK took it when he left. It's also interesting to see Artegor refer to playing with the Snow Kids as a responsibility - they're a symbol of hope for the people of Akillian, who didn't even want to go to their first match in the stadium due to the trauma from the glaciation.

He also reminds D'jok he's a Snow Kid, which reminds me of their conversation in season.... 2? Where Artegor tells him he'll always be a kid from Akillian. It's also nice that once he's voiced his opinion, he changes the subject instead of pressuring D'jok to answer. He's really developed from the demanding Shadows coach he used to be.

Do you ever watch an old video and get jumpscared by a comment you don't remember making? Because I wrote this on another upload 9 years ago and I still don't know how they messed that up LOL.

I mean yeah sure it COULD be a new ability they've unlocked like how the Snow Kids are finding new ways to use the Breath. But they don't show the Cyclop's hypnosis thing at all, the animation is exactly the same as the Xenon's flux, and Callie even mentions their "hypnotic" flux and how the players can barely stay on their feet, which doesn't really match what's on screen sooo yeeeeeaahhh this is just an animation error. A pretty big one though.

So team Paradisia have no problem using their flux? Which was a synthetic one to begin with? And the technology for it is no longer available? Or do they just get it implanted once and that's it? So what was up with them going into those pods to “charge”? How does this work???

Wait what? We ended last episode on D'jok wanting to talk to the Snow Kids and with this one we just skip ahead to him being on the team again? I mean... they were building up to that moment for sooo long and we don't even get to see it? What???

It seems Tia and Rocket have accepted D'jok back but Micro-Ice and Ahito aren't so enthusiastic. It's strange to see Ahito so resentful but it's a refreshing change to see him react like that.

Micro-Ice's reaction on the other hand isn't taken very seriously and it's presented as them squabbling immaturely but like... he's right to feel hurt! We could've had some good Micro-Ice angst topped off with a heart-to-heart between two guys who canonically consider each other brothers, but here we are.

Although it's sad this kind of implies the Shadows only care for Sinedd as a player and not a person, telling him to get a grip after something like that? Although maybe their whole thing is that they TRY to act tough but really they're all feeling like that one guy who ran out crying lol. It IS a bit weird to insert comedy like that into this kind of scene though, kind of undercuts it for me.

This is a match with the Shadows, the Snow Kids' biggest rivals, and yet the first half is over in a few minutes of the episode! The matches just aren't as interesting in this season and feel too rushed

Sure D'jok, until next season. But it's also kind of weird to portray his arc as if he just needed to learn how to be a team player again, when a big part of why he left was the emotional turmoil from the breakup and him lashing out because of it. That's never really resolved, although I guess the season is trying to say that D'jok became obsessed with winning again, which is what drove Mei away in the first place, but again I'm just speculating here! They had the means for a really good arc for D'jok but fumbled it and decided to retread old paths instead.

Is Harvey alive after all?

I do love that Clamp is still working alongside Sonny. And yaaaay Thran gets to do something!

Wait Paradisia is a dead planet, it didn't blow up or anything. Harvey is a robot so is it that surprising he's still there? Why not look for him earlier?

Episode 13:

Funny how the Pirates, who have the most motivation to find the contact, are the ones supporting an immediate evacuation whereas Brim Simbra is going for the “no need to panic people” route

Brim Simbra: He's right. Especially since many people will leave Paradisia right after the final anyway. The evacuation has to take place calmly.

Well fuck all the retail workers and support staff on Paradisia then. You guys are at more risk because we'll only announce a proper evacuation once all the visitors are gone <3

Again they missed their chance to have D'jok and Sinedd taunt each other at the start of the match, their roasts used to be hilarious

I find it a bit hard to believe that D'jok's so far gone he'll literally just stand there as the stadium falls apart around him. In season 2 it was because he was in shock at least, and anyway this is all kind of a re-hash of the end of season 2 but worse

Seeing the flux effect on the 2D animation is so uncanny!

They seemed to be able to switch to using the flux for different purposes pretty quickly, like in football it mostly just gives them more power/speed/agility but they immediately have no problem channeling the Breath outwards and shooting it at stuff

It's a huge moment though, seeing them use the flux outside of football. If there were more seasons it could have been cool to see this as a can of worms opening and a debate around the potential loosening of the rules, with a balance between the benefits flux can bring vs the dangers

Sinedd you dumbass they would have left already, that's how evacuations work. Although I see him being too scared of losing them again to think rationally

So these kids just.... use the flux? And NO ONE has noticed this yet? It's just... they were notified IMMEDIATELY that Rocket had used the flux to save Tia, how is this continuous use going undetected? I guess we already had that question considering Tia already knew how to use the flux in season 1, but with her you could at least make soooome sort of assumption of her being sheltered somehow as a daughter of diplomats. Maybe the flux society only noticed Rocket's flux use so quickly because they always make sure to track GF players really closely, but still if these kids are just chilling using it all the time, on GENESIS, it looks like the flux society are worryingly shit at their job lol

But that's the thing, season 3 introduces SO many crazy new concepts – new tournament, mixed flux teams, players moving to other teams, using flux outside of football, characters moving to different roles to shake up the status quo... so much interesting stuff but the execution just flubs it, especially with the character development.

Oh so the last time we saw Sinedd, he was running back into a collapsing stadium to find his parents and we had no idea if he'd made it or not, and now the next time we see him he's just chilling walking with his team? I don't know much about direction in shows like this but I feel like we should have had a scene where he reunites with Mei at least before this??

Actually come to think of it, D'jok ends up on the Snow Kids' ship during the evacuation and we never get to see their reaction to him! Of course at first they all just want to survive and are obviously worried about him, but what about after? Was it awkward? Did they talk? TELL ME

Wait have D'jok and Sonny interacted since Sonny got healed? I feel like we're sorely missing some father and son interactions here, and D'jok has been really needing it! And where's Maya in all this??

Show really doesn't give us any detail on how someone actually masters another flux. Like how does it work?

Oh Mei's getting sick now from the Smog, but how did Sinedd get over it? He did have symptoms of Smog poisoning in season 2 but I don't remember him ever getting cured like Artegor did? Aarch had to quit the Shadows because it had gone too far, is it actually something you can just overcome? Is it different for everyone? Is it down to overusing it? So many questions!

I feel like since they're closely connected to a main character, they should have gotten some more backstory.

And again, what made him realise he was behaving poorly? You can't just set up a character's development, then suddenly show them once they've reached a conclusion. Was is the near-death experience? The fact Mei still wanted to help him despite how he'd acted? His loneliness finally catching up to him? I WANT ANSWERS

OK this is super interesting, I'm gonna link @millimononym 's post here about D'jok's potential arc (hope that's ok!) because I think it fits really well with this. For a guy obsessed with destiny, hitting his peak early could really mess with him. You could have such an interesting arc about this and accepting that life goes on and that our lives don't have to be defined by reaching some greater goal or purpose. It's about doing it with your friends and, if the show delved a little bit more in the whole post-flux war climate, it's also about being a symbol of hope for a planet that basically suffered the apocalypse. People joke about how the Snow Kids won three times in a row straight away, instead of doing the anime lose -> train to get better -> win scenario, but you could actually address this and use it to the story's advantage!

Aww Lun-Zia can't do it :( I can't remember what happens but it would be cool if she actually couldn't master the Breath, sometimes no matter how hard you try things just don't go the way you want

Wait so um... is no one questioning how the Paradisia girls still have their flux even though the planet is dead? And what are the girls even doing right now? They have no home and no Lord Phoenix, who took care of everything for them. And where did Nina-8 come from??

The Elektra's support of Yuki is so cute. Also kind of interesting lore that their planet is far from the other planets, and hence its residents find it very hard to connect to the flux, so much so it was assumed they didn't have one. A cool explanation for why the team hasn't shown up yet!

Oh she's been selected by the Wambas!! Of course they would want her on their team after seeing her play at Paradisia. Well that wrapped up nicely! Still, this confirms she was just some rando on the beach. And what was she up to before the tournament anyway? I wish we got to know more about her

But also I'm gonna take the chance to give the Shadows points for inclusivity because they seemed to have no problem mixing the team up even before this tournament

I wonder if there was a taboo against that due to the flux wars not being that long ago, I mean the teams are already like our national football teams so most would only want to play for their planet, but it's gotta be even weirder if you switch teams and there are still tensions between your people. So this mixed flux tournament could have been a big political moment if the show explored that side more.

Ok the shading on the characters is bothering me, was it always so dark in the previous seasons? They look like they're always standing infront of a bright light.

Episode 10:

So we open up with Yuki getting mad at Micro-Ice and thinking Zoleen is his girlfriend, and Mice is dumb enough to not reject that claim when she asks him directly if they're going out. He also barely acknowledges Yuki's birthday despite previously rehearsing this dramatic confession of love to her. Thran and Ahito are literally, and I mean literally the only Snow Kids that don't have any love drama going on (I know Mark's got something coming) and every single one has revolved around love triangles, whether misunderstood or not. I can't take this anymore, I'm at my limit.

Anyway, *hits play again*

Since when did this Cyclops dude have a wholeass funded show, when he wasn't even a proper journalist before?

Not just because I know they're con artists but it's so sudden, Hush Sharky making a whole spectacle of this on live TV in front of an audience and Sinedd had NO IDEA that he was going to meet his freaking PARENTS. WHO HE THOUGHT WERE DEAD ALL HIS LIFE. This emotional and insanely personal moment being used for entertainment fits with the corporate hellscape that the show takes place in, but what the hell. He has the full right to be pissed at Sharky.

They never actually showed him becoming a better person, just that he suddenly liked Mei and convinced her to join the Shadows. And Mei does not strike me as a poor judge of character so why would she date him....?

Wow Elektras not letting Mei through to help her friend? Why? They were literally celebrating her birthday together tf??

Poor Yuki, what a shitshow of a match for her although she did score a goal (I'm guessing the Breath is more powerful than the Elektra's flux since she's running in to attack). Loved her lil' chat with Mei though, I will say this season gave us more of the girls in the team being friends which I really do appreciate.

Here for the other Shadows players cooing and awing at Sinedd with his parents, I want to see more of what the team dynamic is like since they seemed to welcome him quickly back in season 1

Now to rant about the Ahito betrayal plot <3

Ok this how to beat Ahito thing is dumb from the get go. It's treated like some big secret and it would be a big betrayal to reveal it, but that's not how sports work. They could easily have figured out his weak points by just watching a load of videos of his saves, in fact they SHOULD have been doing this anyway – the best teams don't win just by playing their best, but by knowing their opponent's strengths and weaknesses and being able to exploit that! It's not dishonest it's just... how it works! Rocket was doing this back in season 1 when he was suggesting tactics!

So to treat it like a big betrayal to reveal something that's easily obtainable public knowledge is dumb. And also, they're treating this as if knowing a player's weakness is some magic key that means they can definitely beat him if they exploit it, which is... also not how sports work!! It's not like he'll definitely fail to save your shot if you hit in a certain way, and it's not like he can't adjust his play after you score a goal. It just.... it makes no sense!!

It was also kind of weird to hear D'jok talk about wanting to win honestly when he was fouling Warren last match and got scolded for disrespecting the game, they made it look like D'jok fully only cared about winning now, whatever the cost, but now suddenly he's having second thoughts and doesn't want to betray a team he's been shit-talking all this time?

I also don't like that what made him cave in the end was mind control, it takes away a lot of accountability. It also would have fit more for D'jok to continue doing anything it takes to win, so he can realise he's wrong later and that he's just been using that to run away from his feelings. As stupid as this “betrayal” is, it should have been his low point showing how far gone he is, his big mistake, that he can then work up from.

Ok I'm finally rewatching s3, thought I'd put up some thoughts like I did for the previous seasons

Episode 1:

Oh boy here we go

Ok right off the bat you can tell the animation isn't motion captured anymore which... yeah it's not as good. But the drop in quality is more noticeable in the 2D animation which was already a bit rough in the earlier seasons

New Micro-Ice voice actor :( No wonder the VA's walked out, the budget for this season was 2 pennies, a shoelace and some gum.

Yeah it's not just the animation, the direction is lacking too in the matches but I don't know enough about cinematography and pacing to describe how exactly

I mean sure, it was implied the Smog feeds off negative emotions and/or strengthens them but... ach there just needed to be more buildup to this!

And you're telling me NO ONE accidentally used the Smog before? Not even Rocket, when he was about to punch Luur after Tia got injured, but Mei does over some love drama we don't even know the cause of???

Yeah it's annoying that D'jok is just acting the same way he used to because the writers don't know what to do with him, but again we don't know how long Mei has been acting like this and I would get annoyed too, although blaming her for the loss of the game was too much. Then again she's probably distancing herself from the team because of how he's behaving with her but again, I'm left here trying to speculate how their relationship broke apart because it was all in a timeskip! I shouldn't have to do that!!

I'm not against them breaking up, I can see how their characters can clash but... give me some more buildup god damn it!

And Mei joins the Shadows... ngl she slays in the outfit but... OUGHGHHG ALL THIS JUST IN EPISODE ONE

Also ngl I think the new writers just skimmed the past episodes and thought that 'pretty girl would go for the bad boy' was enough justification for Mei and Sinedd to get together which like, ugh. They've had like one interaction! And it wasn't a nice one!! Hoooow did they start getting closer let alone start dating AAARGGGHH

Episode 2:

I just... don't think Mei would leave the team like that! As I said she cares about all of the Snow Kids, she'd at least tell Tia or something before running off like that and leaving them to find out from a freaking TV broadcast!

Ok quick rant about the attempts at portraying "girl power":

Honestly idk about D'jok being annoyed they're all girls, this with the Elektra's comment earlier are examples of S3 being more heavy-handed like, “yeah these players are girls, but ACTUALLY that doesn't mean they're not good players!”. Compare this to the previous seasons where we just... had players that were really good and happened to be girls, and no one needed to comment on it? Like, Kernor is the top goal keeper and Lun-Zaera is the best striker for the Wambas, plus Tia was the Snow Kid's biggest weapon in season 1 so I don't think D'jok would immediately dismiss the girls like that. Maybe he would be disconcerted at being the only boy, but still. It's like in the lego n/in/ja/go movie where they were like “she's a GIRL, but she can still be a NINJA!” which has a weird psychological effect of actually enforcing to kids that there is some sort of disparity between men and women, when instead they could just portray her as an equal and let that do the talking, no need to manufacture sexism so you can call it out like “hey, we're so progressive!” (not that you can't have stories with that too, I just don't think it makes as much sense in this situation and shows a different approach than the first two seasons).

Sooo this flashback thing Maya communicates to Sinedd's mother through mind-meld confirms D'jok and Sinedd used to be friends, which is something we'd been wondering about for a while. It would make sense why Sinedd is so hung up on their rivalry.

I headcanon that he got jealous of D'jok's life (having a parent, being really good at football etc.), feeling worse about himself, especially with him never getting an adoptive family. Maybe he even was the first to start playing football, but felt like D'jok was surpassing him and this was another thing taken from him. So he starts putting down Micro-Ice so he can feel superior and challenging D'jok, who eventually ditches him. It's an interesting dynamic, would have been cool to see some full flashback scenes about this.

And with her not being on the team until D'jok left, I wonder if she was already trying to distance herself from them a bit and try to live her own life. Which is pretty symbolic for an identical twin.

Well Mark's love drama has more potential than the love triangles they were doing until now, if only they'd given it more screentime and development

Again, the budget of this show might be low, but they actually have quite a lot of locations and the background art is always really good.

Plus it's still early in the cup.

Ahito you couldn't think of a better excuse for Thran leaving? 😂 I do feel like we could have had a better reason in the story for Thran ending up with the Pirates, it IS a bit weird that he says he has to go on a mission with them but he doesn't actually have a reason to, and this is before the SEMI-FINAL. Oh I really love this interaction between D'jok and Luur before kickoff – no intimidation dance from the Xenons, just a meaningful handshake between a guy who almost plummeted to his death last season, and the player that saved him. Idk if the writers were intentional with this but if so, it's a really nice example of subtle writing and events of the previous season carrying over.

Wait yeah the Pirates aren't back yet! In which case, Aarch is pretty chill for a coach who is missing a player for A SEMI-FINAL MATCH. Eh I guess at this point he's just given up with these kids

Oh damn Brim Simbra actually died, I like that they went through with that so the explosion on Paradisia had consequences. Could have also opened up some interesting avenues with the new flux society leader in season 4 – maybe he'd want to do things differently?

But it's also kind of hilarious that Brim Simbra's very last action as flux society leader... was to delegate the galaxy saving to Sonny Blackbones yet again LOL

D’jok keeping everyone together while watching Rocket at Netherball is the most captainly thing we’ve seen him do – checking on Tia, making sure they stay until the end, comforting Tia when they confront Rocket.

Actually D’jok and Tia’s relationship is underrated, he has so much respect for her. She’s also not afraid to call him out when she needs to, like back in season 1 when Rocket left because of the favouritism thing

Nice that Rocket is still nice to the Snow Kids, of course his character wouldn’t change THAT much. Honestly though idk why he doesn’t want to go back, what changed?

Mei: “Fine go, we don’t need you!” Makes sense she’d be bitter, funny that D’jok tells her that doesn’t help, when he said the exact same thing earlier. He’s learnt haha

Also typical of him to run away from confrontation (like in season 1 after it was revealed he was Aarch’s nephew), which… actually makes so much sense considering his relationship with his father was pretty strained and he’d go off to a cave to secretly practice football.

Norata blaming Aarch for letting Rocket fall so far oof, situations like this do open up old wounds. He probably thought Aarch didn’t do enough to support Rocket, just like with him all those years ago

Idk how I feel about Rocket beating Warren. Actually, it kinda makes sense because rocket plays less clean and is more used to playing with the sphere’s obstacles, and it wasn’t a walk in the park for him either. But still, Rocket wasn’t even touted as the best Snow Kids player last season, but now he can beat EVERYONE and never has a bad day because… plot?

Warren’s a cool guy, he’s a boyscout but you also get this huge sense of pride that some might mistake for a high-and-mighty attitude. He’s a calm dude but he can sound pretty harsh like when scolding Sinedd or Rocket – I think he’s really just a football nut who hates when he sees someone tarnishing the game with selfish playing. That being said, I find his English voice kinda nasally and annoying

Sonny being so sure it’s Bleylock is kinda funny, but he’s right. Still, there must be other flux scientists, from other planets even, who could create something like Netherball

Harris, what did you think he was gonna do with the flux bombs? He already gave you a demonstration on the Shadows planet!

Episode 19

Can we see the goalies from other teams doing epic saves for once? Lmao does Warren not trust his, teleporting all the way to the goal to stop the shot himself

Yesss Yuki pulls, nice to see the girl initiating romance. I feel like we could have had more connection between Micro-Ice and Yuki before? They have chemistry but they missed a huge opportunity with Micro-Ice helping her gain confidence, I mean the guy had a major issue with that in the first season. It’s perfect and would have shown how far he’s come as well

Aarch: “Where are Yuki and Micro-ice? PLEASE don’t tell me they’ve joined the pirates!” DKJLDFG yeah Aarch at this point, the Snow Kids are honorary pirates members

Artegor might be the no-nonsense coach, but he can also be pretty supportive and calm, compared to Aarch’s intensity and strictness

You’d think the pirates would have a sneakier way of entering the room, now you’ve just given Bleylock time to escape

Bit convenient that Rocket’s starting to hallucinate and be out of it when playing Tia, could have built that up in previous matches. Like, a slow descend from sanity, oof

Seeing the other players in place of Tia is kinda funny, like Sinedd looking sad or Luur just laying there gently ahaha. Nice touch with the weird image and audio filters making everything seem surreal

Is this the first canon time we’ve heard Stevens’s voice? And it’s not even real, it’s a hallucination. Does that mean he’s spoken with Rocket during their match? He’s got an accent, I knew he had slav vibes!

I appreciate Tia finally being done with Rocket’s shit, she’s gotta be tough with him so he can’t go back to Netherball again. Almost makes up for all of the time she spent being sad about Rocket. I say almost, because she didn’t really have an arc of her own this season. Still, Tia x Rocket feels man :’(

I like D’jok being mad at Rocket at first for hurting Tia in the match, he respects her so much

I mean maybe Rocket should get soooome consequences for leaving, rather than just being welcomed with open arms, so he can learn from his mistakes and stop running away?

Lol RIP Sinedd spent all that time doing Netherball and he got NOTHING from it, guy just keeps getting used by evil forces and he doesn’t even have a flux now, I feel sorry for him. Tbh with this I feel like he’d be at breaking point, we should have had some sort of development with him in this season, or continue into next. Instead we got some drama with his fake-parents

“We’re called the Shadow Kids now!” Never change, Micro-Ice

Rocket pushing D’jok feels OOC tbh, but him being frustrated fits – he’s used to everything depending on him scoring points, fast. Now he’s a midfielder, whose biggest role is to pass the ball to set up the attack, which takes patience and trust in his teammates. Makes sense he’d feel like he’s not touching the ball enough. Nice touch that his hair is still up, a little detail to show he’s not quite back to his old self yet

I like the show of D’jok and Micro-Ice’s friendship, M-ice just straight up pushes Rocket and tells him to back off

Artegor gets his flux back after the smoke cloud clears from the Shadows’ planet, so does their flux comes from the sky somehow? The sun?

I’m guessing vague manifestations of the flux like with Artegor are ok, so long as you don’t actively use it for a purpose. There’s this one comic that says otherwise, though

“We won our match, we’re entitled to play!” RIP that the Shadows can jump back into the tournament but the Pirates, who actually beat them, are still disqualified because the charges on Sonny haven’t lifted yet

Knowing the Shadows, would they be okay with Artegor just popping back after putting in all that effort to coach the Snow Kids?

Why exactly can Artegor control the Smog now? Maybe because now he’s been without it for a bit, he can feel when its influence tries to take hold?

Nice that with Artegor being a better person now, there’s someone to actually keep an eye on Sinedd. Before, he was just using him as a weapon and didn’t care about what injuries or the Smog could do to him

Episode 22

This is the moment Ahito should’ve pulled out and kept his promise, but he doesn’t and Thran notices

Oh for gooooods sake, jerk D’jok is back. I know we’re trying to show Rocket being a team guy again, but we don’t need to drag D’jok under the bus to do it

Ahito: “I can do this.” Thran: “No, you can’t”. Such a heartbreaking moment seeing Thran, who’s usually so supportive, have to make Ahito face reality. I really like this though, sometimes you need to know your limits rather than push and endanger not only yourself, but others. It ends okay in this match, but he can’t keep this up and it might cost them a goal eventually. Thran knows him too well

Epsiode 23

Interesting seeing the Flux Society reacting to the Snow Kids passing the Breath and making it follow the ball, it’s a more complicated move that doesn’t just enhance the player’s physical strengths. It’s like they were introducing the idea of the different uses of the flux before the wars, but Season 3 didn’t really execute it that well

Actually, it would be interesting if in training we saw them innovating and practicing new moves and ways to use the Breath, a bit like training arcs in Haikyuu!!

I feel like Mana-Ice whenever Micro-Ice scores, that’s my son!

I love that Yuki is now confident enough to try persuading Ahito to let her sub in for him

Rocket pulling the Breath from the others is a cool move, which also shows he understands they’ve got his back, and he can trust them to lend him their strength. But it’s not them giving him the Breath per se, so maybe he’s still got a bit to go before becoming a proper team player again

Technoid: Sonny may have been proven innocent but FUCK IT, his bounty goes up because something bad happened and we bet it’s him. Sonny: lmao I’m literally watching this in a big crowd with nothing but A HOOD to disguise me, your move

D’jok: “A billion credits? [icr the actual number lol] Someone’s bound to turn him in!” Meaning people weren’t as eager to before? Because they feared him or because they respected him? I’d honestly love to see more on what the general public’s view on Technoid and the pirates is, maybe it’s different between planets? Does Technoid propaganda have much of an effect?

“The Xenon people will be greatly disappointed” ahh yes I get the sense there’s a lot of pride and pressure on the team to do well, since they’re like a symbol of the planet emerging from disaster. They could be the type of people to cheer the hardest when they’re doing well, but tear down their own players when they lose

Harris is an interesting fellow, he did seem genuinely against blowing up Genesis, but he also has ulterior motives. To be fair, blowing up Genesis was a short-term, emotion-driven goal for Bleylock – there’s probably more efficient and effective ways to use the flux devices and rule the galaxy, but Harris decided Bleylock wasn’t up to it

Random thoughts

Do other teams have captain armbands?? Pretty sure only the SK and Pirates do? Warren doesn’t, idk

Do the Snow Kids’ kits have hoods? What are they there for? Should have put them up in like the two matches where it started snowing XD

Harris’s design is pretty cool, so bright and colourful yet he’s even more scheming than Bleylock, he isn’t revenge-bent like him either.

What are the names of the alien species? They always refer to them by their team names but, the Snow Kids are actually Akillians and having your race be called Lightnings is kinda dumb. Then again the Rykers planet is called Unadar so I guess they’d be Unadarians?

Galactik Football season 2 thoughts: part 1

Okay I’ve typed out the next chapter of the novelisation but still need to translate it sooo in the meantime, here’s some miscellaneous thoughts while I was rewatching season 2, which I never posted

Episode 1

Cute that Rocket is gushing over the flowers, they haven't forgotten his florist skills

Tia fgs... even I wouldn't fall over the edge like that

Anyway, what is this forest and why is it here? Aarch says it's off bounds because it's dangerous, but Rocket wonders how Tia got an access card so which is it - not allowed by Aarch or in general? If it's dangerous why on earth is it there, conservation??? Everything there was built artificially, whyyy would they build a drop like that. Surely workers have to maintain it, why wouldn't there be a fence?

Episode 2

Wait so Sinedd gathers the players for Netherball, yeah that makes more sense as to why the Snow Kids are never told about it and Mark only happens to overhear. Still, why would you tell the Pirates team? They're in contact with Sonny, and they would want to keep it hidden from him

Rocket and Sinedd have an interesting "friendship", I like to think Sinedd secretly has quite a bit of respect for him. Back in season 1 Sinedd told Rocket he should join a better team, there was also that time he came round the SK locker room to taunt them but actually left when Rocket told him to.

Lmao according to the animators there’s like 30 members of each team in the Netherball crowd

Episode 3

Mark is in the house! Yeah I’m a bit eh on the idea that no one at try outs was good enough but of course someone the Snow Kids already know is good enough to play with champion Galactik Football players? That and he’s friends with D’jok and co., who make up most of the team. Would have been nice if he had history with one of the other players instead. Ooor, having someone completely new, or from the Red Tigers could have been interesting.

I like Mark but I can see why people weren’t fans of him haha, ya walk in and hog the ball with D’jok as if you’re not the newbie, then make fun of Micro-Ice :P BUT I kinda get it, playing with D’jok probably felt like old times again so it’s easy to get carried away, and since he's known M-ice for a while, the teasing isn’t a big deal

Artegor literally does the evil chair spin when Aarch comes to see him / Artegor: “Your presence bothers me” DHFFJDJAJ why are you so dramatic

Rocket, when someone recognises him: “I'm uh... Micro-Ice!” Rocket clearly used all his brain cells for football

D’jok being such a dick to Yuki and his reaction to Rocket leaving feels like a regression, although I see where it’s coming from with all the pressure he puts on himself and everyone else, but ehh it's a bit much

Am I the only one who feels this is the season that started the trend of Micro-Ice being comic relief only? Adding Mark and the love interest with Yuki seems to make it worse

Episode 4

Clamp happening to bump into Bleylock is very convenient... oop there’s confirmation that Sonny has hallucinated Bleylock before

D’jok: “It’s a friendly, Sinedd. Oh that’s right, you don’t have friends!” BRUH

D’jok: “Just like the old times, except I’m the only one really playing” nah come on they regressed D’jok too far man

Tia refusing to pass to D’jok was dumb though, yeah he’s a dick but it’s played off like her being sad about Rocket being gone

Lots of M-ice trying to cheer up D’jok in this ep, I love it. But even he can’t take his shit in the end XD

Bruh Tia’s just crying about Rocket all the time, even his parents don’t care as much

I’m DEVASTATED they didn’t release the soundtrack for season 2, especially the music in Netherball. It’s so cool!

Episode 6

Yuki’s tough enough to stand up to D’jok but he’s only echoing her own doubts. It’s nice that for once we have a character with confidence issues, very relatable, especially in sports. Also love how supportive Thran is this whole season!

Mei getting all pissy about D’jok not wanting to go out, I can kinda see why they broke up eventually, although I’m not a fan of how it happened - both are very hotheaded tbh

Kernor calling Rocket snowball lool I love that. Anyway, kinda weird how Rocket is already acting more like Netherball Rocket, I mean surely the flux extraction hasn’t affected him yet. What exactly caused his change in personality?? Next match he’s all cocky to Woowamboo already

Episode 7

D’jok: “They don’t look like the real Shadows, Sinedd’s mouth is shut!” I LIVE FOR D’JOK CONSTANTLY ROASTING SINEDD

Sinedd has to keep Rocket in Netherball... maybe that doesn’t just mean not playing against him, but doing other things? Controlling the sphere and the obstacles perhaps? idk

Sonny is technically spying on D’jok hm... it’s interesting that he’s still pretty flawed, even though he is trying. Life as a wanted pirate will just do that to ya

Episode 9

D’jok’s nightmare - that flux imprint of him looks cool

The All Stars are coached by Aarch, but did they ever get a training session? Wish we could have seen that, would have been cool to see how they figure out a dynamic between these monster players

Stevens is almost as tall as Kernor and Warren damn son, I always thought alien teams were abnormally tall, like 2m on average but maybe the Snow Kids are just small to show they’re teens? Aarch is like a head taller than most of them idk

Nice that Tia says they can win without Rocket

The sound of Luur’s flux is really cool, it’s just... squelchy

All Warren has to do is walk by Sinedd slowly and dramatically to make him get his shit together, what a legend

Episode 11

I appreciate the friendship between Mark and Yuki, makes sense they’d become even closer since they’re both the new people. Mark excels under pressure while Yuki stresses out more, so it’s nice to see him giving her advice

Honestly at what point does Rocket’s disappearance become cause to call the police?

How the hell did they fake that CCTV footage, shouldn’t someone properly check the video?? Sometimes I forget all the institutions and organisations of this world are incredibly incompetent

Apparently a decade ago was the Wambasian golden age in football, interesting

Tia fouling and getting a penalty just to wave to Rocket.... that’s irresponsible af wtf, can they have her not think about Rocket for 2 minutes

The Snow Kids haven’t used the Breath yet because no teamwork, yet Rocket could use it just like that earlier, D’jok and Sinedd used it one-on-one in the previous season... the rules on when the Breath appears are very inconsistent

Episode 12

Yesss my boy Micro-Ice, nice that he’s the one to score the first goal against the Wambas, he always comes in in the clutch

D’jok has done nothing captainly so far lol, nothing to pull the team together

Awww Ahito is the spirit of the Snow Kids

Yes Markk, he’s always kept his cool so it’s fitting he got the Breath when everything else was falling apart

Why do they always score seconds before the game ends

The Wambas are roaring a whole lot more in this season? It used to just be the noise of their flux but now they’re roaring too?? Anyways give me more Lun-Zeara :(

Barry is so much more optimistic for the Pirates and THEY HAVE NO FLUX. Meanwhile the Snow Kids change two players (which shouldn’t even be that rare) and everyone’s super pessimistic that the Galactik Football CHAMPIONS could win. idk is there a need to drill the underdog narrative that much?

That explosion was so big you could see it from space? Mate that’s mass extinction levels but then the Smog returns later idk. Also, why would a Pirate ship’s wreckage point towards Sonny doing this? They’re free men so their ships can just be anywhere, if anything the fact that it’s wrecked is evidence AGAINST Sonny doing it, but I guess Technoid just wanted an excuse to make Sonny wanted again so tbh, it’s realistic. Corruption and all that

Jeez without the Smog and Sinedd down, the Shadows are getting WRECKED BOI

I stan the Pirates, honestly. I have so much respect for them always getting pretty far with no flux, that’s incredible. There’s a lot I find interesting about them that I wish we could see more of, like how they’re basically like representatives of the Pirates for the general public, so they have an image to keep up. I like to think they’re well-respected not just because of their sportsmanship, but because they stand for something. Wonder how the team was formed or even allowed to join? Lol imagine a Pirates VS Technodroids match, what a derby

That being said, Stevens is having way too much fun trolling the Shadows XD
