While we're all talking about both the WGA/SAG strikes and Barbenheimer, I hope everyone realises that the entire reason this exists is because Christopher Nolan stood up to Warner Bros against pushing their entire cinematic slate onto streaming in 2021, by taking his next film to another studio.

Then, as an act of petty revenge, they decided to deliberately move their single biggest movie of 2023 (and arguably WB's biggest non-Batman/Harry Potter movie in DECADES) directly onto his release date.

So no, the Barbie Marketing isn't "so good it helped another movie". The Barbie Marketing Machine was specifically designed to get back at someone who dared to stand up against WB executives.

It was a calculated move of malice by soulless corporate fuckeroonies.

if you are caught up in what ships are "endgame" in the vampire chronicles or related media you are missing the whole point of anne rice vampires which is that they function like the worst most drama-filled queer community group you've ever heard of while being immortal and having unlimited resources. one of the last books in the series is about drama in lestats polycule because this guy that he pissed off ages ago kidnapped two of his boyfriends and his mom (who he is in love with as well don't worry about it) therefore provoking the ire of several of his other boyfriends because they were also dating those guys so they set aside their differences of opinion on whether or not they should farm the alien species that lives among them for easy blood in order to go steal back the cule members which lestat accomplishes by tearing the kidnapper's eyes out and eating them (which he didn't do before because the kidnapper was hot and so lestat was holding out hope that he would also join the polycule eventually). a side plot to this is lestat meeting a vampire he hasn't met before and bringing him home so the new guy and louis can read tolstoy together because as soon as lestat met this vampire he was like omg I need to bring this guy home for boyfriend enrichment. you cannot BEGIN to comprehend the complexity of vampire sucking and fucking in the anne rice universe

cesare at first snidely corrected alfonso when he called him 'brother' by clapping back with 'brother-in-law.' but when alfonso revealed that he's well aware that cesare killed his real brother, he suddenly went all 'brother!!' at alfonso, deliberately using it to manipulate him and hoping to dissuade him from causing a scene and exposing the truth about juan's death...cesare's strategy had me giggling though!

I have no clue why they didn't make Amity more akin to a rival character instead of a bully. Because it would have solved A Lot of problems in regards to Amity and Willow, and Lumity becoming a thing.

The thing is that Lumity feels Super Weird at the start when Luz is trying to befriend Amity long before the girl shows any remorse for bullying Willow and making up for it. And it's not something easily brushed off when Amity is introduced being condescending and a dick to Willow. The bullying isn't something of the past, it's still going on.

Willow comes off as an afterthought in this dynamic, when she's the one who's been wronged by Amity the most. Their arc never feels like it resolves itself either, it just kinda peeters out.

If you've watched Little Witch Academia, Diana is who I think Amity should have emulated more. Diana is the top student at the school, she's stern and no-nonsense, a bit stuck-up, she comes from a prestigious family, she gets in conflict with the protagnoist, Akko, not because of bullying but because they have very different personalities and butt heads because of it. Akko considers Diana her rival, but this is one-sided on her part.

Willow and Amity could still have been friends in the past, but Amity instead pointedly ignores Willow's existence after their friendship has ended. She doesn't call out her friends for bullying Willow(that would make it seem like she cares) but she doesn't participate or encourage it. She's still not a good person, she still has to apologise to Willow, but changing their relationship from 'active bullying' to 'pretending Willow doesn't exist' would do a lot going forward for them I think. Still terrible, but more palatable in my eyes.

I keep seeing “Luka got mad that Till regained his strength when he saw Mizi” and I’m a little surprised because I read it completely differently. I saw it more as he got mad because Till was clearly distracted from their battle—more importantly, Till was no longer paying attention to Luka.

Luka enjoys being the center of attention. He likes the rush of having all eyes on him. He also is shown to crave victory, total victory, over his opponents. All of the manipulation tactics? I don’t think they’re just to gain an edge in the scoring. I think it’s because Luka wants to crush his opponents vocally and emotionally in a way that ensures they (and the audience) cannot look away from him. After all, in a singing death match, most competitors would keep their eyes trained on the scoreboard or the audience to gauge reactions without something else to grab their attention.

I think Luka would normally be amused or excited that Till (or anyone else for that matter) was trying so hard against him.

However, here he is clearly frustrated and I think it’s because despite Luka’s efforts to do things that will grab Till’s attention (bringing a violin when Till won his first match with the electric guitar, copying Ivan, getting up close and personal when Till doesn’t like it, etc.), once Mizi shows up none of that matters. Till barely spares Luka another glance and this man craves attention. It’s what he was made for.

Seeing the “cerebrocrustaceans are highly territorial” headcanon slowly start to pick up more steam (albeit with a split as to whether they’re so cliquey and ride-or-die they view everyone who isn’t in their in-group as a potential threat until they’ve made it abundantly clear that they mean no harm or if they despise any sort of group collaboration unless it’s absolutely, positively necessary) makes me wonder if it’s a common stereotype by the galactic audience to view them as being massive pricks to everyone they meet. Like, oh, everyone on Encephalonus-IV hates each other’s guts and they’re incessantly rude to anyone and everyone they come across! They’re so petty and envious they can’t stand the thought of anyone being better at them than anything and delight in the suffering and misfortune of people they don’t like! They fly into murderous rages if a galvan so much as breathes on them, and if they weren’t such cowards, they’d nuke Galvan Prime into oblivion only to immediately start yet another rivalry with some other species for one reason or another!

Hah! Doesn’t help their case that Dr Psychobos became very well known thanks to the super famous superhero Ben 10!

But no yeah with galvans being the cold detached sort of smart, especially with their prevalence in intergalactic relationships (you don’t become the smartest being in not one but multiple galaxies by sitting alone in your room), what comparatively little interaction to the wider galactic sphere cerebrocrustaceans have has more expectations than if the galvans were more subtle in their influence. If you’ve heard how much of an grumpy old man scientist the First Thinker is, especially when you hear about one of his creations striking out against him due to neglect, well you’ve already started to get the picture of an isolated workspace that no one dares interrupt.

So then you come face to face with a snappy cerebrocrustacean scientist who’s rude, direct, and hovering over your shoulder making sure you don’t fuck up, well you won’t really find many cases of neglect when everything you do is under scrutiny. I guess the difference between my headcanon and @ohyeahben10 ‘s headcanon would be if you can endure the territorial… hostility may not be the right word, the fact that you’re in the same space as a cerebrocrustacean at work is already more than what they’d typically give, in my headcanon sphere you could potentially get past that barrier and transition from outgroup to ingroup; I don’t know exactly what’s in ohyeah’s head but I assume given his headcanons she might say that you practically could never get on a cerebrocrustacean’s good side, or at least not as close as an ingroup would suggest-

Either or, it’s gonna leave a bad first impression, and that is how the stereotype for being prickish is so widespread. Potentially, if a notable cerebrocrustacean scientist works intergalactically, the stereotype may narrow to Encephalonus IV having a very dickish social culture.

Something I'm really curious about:

In the pilot, Charlie using her authority as Hell's princess is enough for Alastor to help with the hotel and Al's response is just "Fair enough," showing he respects her authority as Hell's princess to some extent.

In the main series, Alastor still seems to have some level of respect for authority (by which I mean he doesn't completely dismantle any authority he comes across) but he's also a massive fucking troll about it? Like I feel like he makes it clear he respects Lucifer's authority (he doesn't overstep any boundaries related to it, he just trolls Lucifer for being a absentee dad) and it's also clear, at least to me, that he respects people of a higher social standing than him. He seems to respect Carmilla, he respects Zestial, he respects Velvette and Valentino's authority (whether or not he respects them as people, I can't say, I seriously doubt he'd respect Val as a person assuming A Day In The After Life is still canon), he respects that Rosie has a higher social standing than him in Cannibal Town, hell, he even seems to respect Angel's celebrity status to some extent.

Like obviously he doesn't like not having as much power as other people (I don't think he would've been so on-sight with Lucifer if he didn't care), but I think it's something he at least has the ability to respect because while he is cocky as fuck, it's pretty clear that he knows his place, at least in Hell's hierarchy. He doesn't seem to pick fights he doesn't think he'll make it out of, and before Hell's Greatest Dad he was testing Lucifer with taunts more than anything. Alastor's taunting towards Lucifer prior to Hell's Greatest Dad just feels like he's testing how far he can go before Lucifer snaps, and once he realizes Lucifer won't do anything he just goes all out. If you watch the background you can even see Husk, Pentious, and Vaggie watching Alastor taunt him like they're expecting Lucifer to Thanos-snap him out of existence. Here's that screenshot by the way:

Like I think his respect for authority (both power authority and social authority) comes more from knowing his place and not to overstep than anything else, but he's absolutely willing to push boundaries for his own amusement, even when he does respect someone's authority over him.

It's really interesting, and it raises even more questions about his targets, both as a serial killer in life and as the Radio Demon in Hell.
