I GENUINELY wish I understood the appeal of Taylor Swift I really really do. many of my friends do. but it's just. I don't think a single one of her songs has ever landed above 'ok' or 'nostalgically cheesy' for me and every time I think that I feel so incredibly like I'm trying to be snobby but I'm not? it's not about not liking pop or not liking the cool thing I love pop I love cheese I just also like music that has some...I guess energy and danceability or specific and meaningful rage and I have found nothing to hook into in anything she's made. Antihero nearly works for me. Blank Space works conceptually but not in practise. but other than that the last thing she made that did anything for me even as a throwaway pop song was. god it actually might be We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together or 22 which at least are catchy but I can't say ever made it to my playlists.

I want to get it, I genuinely do. I have listened to most of her releases at least once because I keep thinking if I try hard enough something will open up for me but nah however hard I try it's just extremely mid. like yes that certainly is music. I can immediately recognise it as Taylor Swift, it's not like it's utterly generic, but it absolutely just registers to me as background music. I want so much to understand what it is about her that makes her the biggest person in music for like 15 years now.

(I could say the same about Beyoncé who if anything lands worse for me. Break My Soul owns, but other than that I have landed everything I've heard of hers since like 2008 firmly in the Do Not Relisten pile it just lands like a ton of loose sand for me. and this is not mentioning the actual crime against music that was Jolene bc I don't think that worked for most people tbf. and again it's not that I don't like pop or r&b or rap cause that's like. between those genres about a third of the music I listen to. but her work is just so unengaging to me personally and I don't know why and I wish I got it)

#bro i hate this teacher sm #she gave at least half the class a 0 on the discussion board from last week #bc she wants it formatted a certain way except she had sooo many rules abt how it needed 2 be and everyone i think was a bit confused #bc it was week 2. so she graded the first one just fine and stated minor things that needed 2 be there next time #HOWEVER. SHE DID NOT GRADE WEEK 1S DISCUSSION BOARD UNTIL THE DAY THE 2ND ONE WAS DUE #AND SO MOST PEOPLE HAD ALREADY DONE IT INCLUDING MYSELF #so she then proceeded 2 give a bunch of people (INCLUDING ME) a 0. bc we didnt follow the critiques. that we did not get until after.#we’re able to resubmit and shit but she didnt state anything about it/put in grades until late afternoon yesterday #and the deadline to resubmit it today. like girl wtf this aint my fault #im so fucking pissed off about it. this week sucked bad. however. this weekend will be good. and i got my shirt. and the album came out #the little things or whatever #ghost boy rambles

#Probably my last CEO of complaining post for now…#I wish they didn’t have “Season on Memories” as the pre-release #Kills literally all the hype because it’s the title track and the mv comes out a week later #I feel like they started rushing this entire thing and didn’t put in as much care as expected #(Y’all know well I’m not talking about the members)#But obviously starting off with the crazy editing (how do you mess up that badly and miss a whole arm)?#The graphic designing I thought was fine but they’ve def had better #And the way Source Music has promoted the whole thing worked at the beginning #And built up a whole bunch of hype #And so I think most people expected a whole album and not just two songs (unless we get rerecordings)#And so for the price point I almost feels like a rip off (but it could just be me)#Merch was minimalistic (but they also did that to all the artists under HYBE so not too surprised)#And since they hyped up the album so much they really needed to live up to it #And having the title track as the pre-release felt so underwhelming cause I just went “ AHHH this is so good” not “OMGAHISHAJA”#They should have gave us a part of “Season of Memories” and then give us “Always” as the pre-release #And the GDA performance wasn’t mindblowing #I know they’re busy but instead of the “Season of Memories” what about a dance break and good transition (literal trademark of theirs)#Now I just feel like “Season of Memories” is an AMAZING song but with how they released everything it felt very lackluster #And not like the ultimate comeback it’s supposed to be even though it is!#WHYYYYY #Who is their marketing team 😭 I wanna have a talk with them #I think that’s all I can think of right now #GFriend #They better not ruin the rest of it thank you for coming to me Ted talk #OMG I FORGOT #THE AMOUNT OF SOWON LINES #If y’all could make sure she had 20 seconds of lines before why is it any different this time?#Genuinely hoping she gets a lot more of lines in “Always”

so there's a Stop Making Sense cover album coming out in honor of the movie's 40th anniversary, and i listened to the preview tracks that are out, and the best thing about it so far, for me, is that its reminded me that Girlfriend is Better is a really fucking good song

#i think girl in red's cover is fun but whenever i listen to it i have to listen to the original afterwards and be like DAMN!!!#i don't really like that she jumps into the chorus and 'stop making sense' parts early- kind of messes with the build up of the song for me #the original track is so killer. a song of all time #nothing is better than that!!!#i need a text post tag #i love MUSIC!!!! AAAAAAA (as a casual listener... i don't know like. any fucking music theory or terminology)#the thing about most of the tracks out for the cover album so far #is that they're like. not really very transformative?? they're very straightforward #so hayley williams is obviously having fun and doing a fine job singing burning down the house #but also its like. this isn't bringing anything new to the table for me... very listenable though. burning down the house!!!!#meanwhile in the little preview she's done; miley cyrus is sure putting a spin on psycho killer. but i don't like it #very excited for the full album to drop because i want to hear what kevin abstract does with once in a lifetime #and i love the national but i'm kinda like. can they do anything interesting with Heaven? i hope so! but i'm kinda expecting to be let down #like they'll just cover it straight and it'll be like. yep that sure is the national covering heaven by talking heads #im hoping they'll add something fun with drums... it'd dramatically change the vibe of the song but like. i like the national's drums #at the end of the day i think part of the problem is that talking heads are a tough act to follow

#my opinions on ts are complex #like i think she's an insanely good and hardworking performer #you cant ignore the amount of work it takes to perform something like her eras shows #AND i think that when she puts her mind to it she can really knock it out of the park with a great song #every album has at least one A+ song #like genuinely i think anti-hero was her best ever lyrically #and she's at her best when she leans into the sappy over the top vibe like w love story or ybwm #my main problem with her is ofc her excessive private jet use #i understand that shes too famous to fly commercial bc she'd get mobbed #but when travelling within a single country she could at least be using road travel #anyway #wrt her music my main issue is that a good 80% of it is very... bland #she doesn't really do anything new or push any boundaries artistically #just plays it safe #and her lyrics can be genuinely awful when she takes herself too seriously (1830s but without all the racists)#and that sucks bc when she DOES decide to explore a new concept or play a character #she generally makes something interesting and fun!#blank space was fun bc it was a play into the media's constructed narrative about her #reputation was. a choice. but i'll defend it for being something different and actually taking a risk #this is a long ass tags ramble but i guess my point is #shes a pop singer. shes a pop singer who makes catchy pop music and thats okay #but she has a habit of taking herself too seriously and trying to be a deep meaningful 'poet' type songwriter like phoebe bridgers etc #which is just. not at all what she's good at #her music needs an ounce of self awareness to be good but her new album completely lacks that #sigh #dont ever get a diploma in music theory worst mistake of my life

I love the way this was worded, like I'm one of the siblings on Succession and the press has cornered me outside my penthouse to ask if I'll be releasing a statement on my family's latest scandal. Hehehe anyways.

Sorry but I just don't understand how anyone is shocked. Truly what has that woman ever done to successfully convince people that this is out of character for her. Like I don't want to diminish anyone's pain or anything but I see all these stans on here and over on Twitter in all this distress, having their very first epiphanies like "Hold on . . . does Taylor . . . suck??" And I kinda just have to chuckle at them cause like bless your hearts babes, but omg catch UP 😭

Lol because 1) she is a severely emotionally stunted person who thinks edgy British "bad boys" are hot like she's 12 years old, 2) she has no true deeply-held moral principles outside of issues that directly affect herself, and 3) truthfully, she seems to be suffering from a serious crisis of identity after the end of the longest and most significant romantic relationship of her life, and in my opinion is pretty clearly desperate to prove something to the world/her ex/herself.

The first reason is cringe but not news to longtime viewers, the second reason is pathetic but also not news (to those who can be honest with themselves), and the third is . . . understandable in some sense, but not pitiable enough to make me willing to humor this insufferable little episode she's having. I wish her luck on this humiliating rebound journey, but she is gonna have to walk that road on her own.

Normally, I always roll my eyes when people make these kinds of jokes, but given the circumstances I feel justified in saying: I can't wait to hear the breakup song about him, sis 🤡

i’m absolutely not complaining about ttpd as an album, i love it even more than i thought i would, but i do kind of wish she would’ve waited to release it until after the eras tour was over so it could’ve gotten its own tour :/ like the visuals and the stage design and the outfits are just sooo good and not only is it being cut down into only seven songs so it can fit into an already massive setlist, but everyone who went to the shows in the us, mexico, south america, asia, and australia — aka a huge portion of the tour dates — didn’t get to see any of it live. like it’s so impressive that taylor was able to add the ttpd section into the existing setlist but i can't help but feel disappointed bc this means we likely won't get a ttpd tour, which is something i would kill to see </3

#i know so many people demand new content from her constantly but with everything she’s been doing we didn’t NEED this album so soon yk #i personally would’ve been fine waiting another year or even longer if it meant ttpd could get its own era #bc it’s kind of impossible for it to fully have that when she’s already a year into this huge tour #she’s already had to cut so many songs to fit everything (not even everything bc there’s no debut set)#with lover/folklore/evermore not getting their own tours bc of covid it makes sense why she did the eras tour instead of a midnights tour #but now that touring is an option again it would’ve been nice for her to slow down her releases a bit to really focus on new albums more #idk maybe this is a hot take bc ofc the eras tour is incredible and i do feel so lucky to have gotten to go at all #but i just really wish i could see ttpd songs live and it seems like i won’t get that chance until the next tour #which will likely be years from now and who knows how many albums she’ll have put out by then #rn all i can do is hope that she’ll add another us leg or something so i can see eras again with the new setlist #but that’s very unlikely since she’s already added shows in miami/indy/etc none of which i can afford travel for let alone resale tickets #no one’s gonna even see this but if anyone does i hope it’s not taken the wrong way bc she’s given us so much in the past few years #sorry for the essay i just love ttpd and i want to see it live </3 #lj speaks now

#that being said. pressurized cabins drive me insane a little bit #and also it gives you pretty intense sea legs for a While #like. the ones from the first trip hadnt gone away by the return one. so. might be stuck with that for a few days #we shall see #also ajr live fucks severely #the albums were already incredible but that was a goddamn religious experience #like. idk the way i think abt it is theyre more djs than a regular band esp w their performance showing the making of way less sad #like their music is very electronic‚ theyre making mixes of their own sound effects more than singing in one go #so like. the vocals were a teeensy bit rough at times #notably times it has taken me Literally Hundreds Of Hours Practice to be able to consistently sing along with #and times ive found its literally physically impossible to like. no matter what #idc how big your lungs are‚ there is no human on earth who can do that final run of karma in one breath #much less to An Entire Stadium After An Hour Of Jumping And Dancing And Singing Loud As Fuck #so like i dont blame them for that‚ you dont go to live shows expecting it to be 100% perfect anyways jwbdjsbfksb #the trumpet however. well she was certainly playing sometimes. and was very enthusiastic about her flares.#however. in most of their songs they use midi trumpets to my ear at least #meaning she was likely an addition specifically for live performances and in my personal band kid opinion #prooobably was not in any of the like. higher tier bands? idk just. a lot of the mistakes she was making were hitting as stuff that got #taught out of us the instant we joined any band beyond regular concert #so i would guess she was probably just like. a friend who happened to play trumpet in high school or maybe even just middle school #and they knew that the trumpet parts in their pieces were big and distinct enough that like they /had/ to get a live player #and just kinda. didnt anticipate the audition -> performance gap #like. her tone was really fried the whole time like she was playing as hard as possible #which. she was mic'd. have the sound guy turn her up.#the way they did it made it sound like she was using a mute but not. like she only got the bad parts of a mute from it yknow #her tempo and timing were. bad. theres no nice way to put that one it just Was Bad‚ like the trumpet runs in ajr songs arent. complicated #like. quite literally if you handed me the sheet music right now i would have it down perfect in a week at absolute most #and better than that player on sightread. like. we did so many sightreading drills.#like ill share my band kid creds if anyone cares but i need to emphasize this isnt me being braggy like. they genuinely just arent hard #fuck im out of tags. w/e i think only like one of yall also listens to them anyways so i can leave it there
