if 2012 splinter had a premonition on how he was going to die, do you think there was a reason as to why he took raph and april with him up on that rooftop? because like. in the perspective of the show, it's always been leo that has those big emotional moments with splinter. you'd think the writers would have put leo up on that rooftop instead of raph but. yeah. i wonder if there was ever any reason for that

Can i get a request of what turns the turtle brothers on? If not thats 100% okay👍🏾 I HOPE YOUR WELL❤️
Tmnt turn on's
A/n: sorry it's been so long since I've written. Things haven't been the best lately, but I figured I should feed ya'll some bread crumbs since it's been so long. Please enjoy. Minor's don't read obvi.
Raphael
Tumblr media
So as we all know..Raph is a big ass guy
So absolutely anything to do with your ass is a big turn on for him.
Like if you bend over in front of him..prepare to get got
Will not hesitate to slap your behind..bc it's already right there..
Would use the defense "But you were teasing me!"
I think another big turn on for him would probably be you scratching his shell
Which shouldn't be one..but he's a softie and it's such a nice place to be touched..I honestly think the first time would embarrass him
But it would lead to a very intimate, loving session between you two
Other than that I don't think there are any other note worthy ones to mention
Leonardo
Tumblr media
As much as I love leo..I think he's a pretty basic bitch 💅
But not in a bad way..he just doesn't fall into any big mentions for turn on's in my opinion.
I think one he would have would probably be starting anything touchy feely in public.
Like caress his leg under the table or squeeze it and he's gonna get bricked up
I think anything that would get you caught or deemed as "wrong" would definitely be a big turn on
I mean he's always had to be perfect and fit into everyone's image..so he's definitely a little bit freaky.
Donatello
Tumblr media
Donnie is a freeeeaaak
I could go on and on about what turns him on
Restraints..omg he's foaming at the mouth
You getting stuck somewhere..that's a definite secret one of his..
I feel you dressing up in cosplay would be a big big one for him bc Donnie is a nerd
But we love that about him
Toss your leg over his waist while your cuddling or sleeping and I ensure you..you'll gain a fun surprise
I feel like Donnie is shy about it at first..but once he's comfortable with you
It's game over..it'll be on sight
So good luck..and enjoy your ability to walk while you have it.
Michelangelo
Tumblr media
Just about anything will get him going
Brush your hand on his knee..he's bricked up
Hug him and instantly he'll whine into your ear "Angelcakes~"
He's always in the mood and always ready to go
But he has his limits..I don't think anywhere in front of anyone would get him like that.
I feel he is a very private person..jokes are fine and good..but the real deal and all that is for you two alone
He may be ready for spicy time just about any time..but the romance don't die
He may or may not have mentioned to you once that he wanted to role play himself and..you...delivering his pizza..don't ask..it's a Mikey thing.

betcha thought u saw the last of me huh
been in a major writing slump for the past year, and now and conquering my writing slumo to hopefully get over all of my other ones so here u go this is inspired by a post a long time ago that i can’t find ab everyone falling back into old habits at the farm house and i can’t remember if it was april or casey who set them into shape but i needed an excuse to make it faggy
the farmhouse itself was nothing like the sewers. warm wooden walls, sunlit windows, and soft carpet were a very dramatic change from the damp, cold walls of the sewer, made colder by the presences within them.

it was a change, for sure, but raph couldn’t help but think it was a welcome one.

everyone could tell something had changed between them, between everyone. eggshells littered the floorboards during short, awkward conversations, before the occupants retreated back to their designated spaces.

some things lingered, though. what is it that people say—it takes twenty one days to form a habit? well, raph has been doing this for nineteen years, so beat that. he’s spent almost two decades walking on autopilot, not thinking twice about anything until it became a threat, picking up after everyone, cooking, cleaning. the list carried on.

and for the better part of two decades, his siblings had accepted that. some smart people online can say whatever they want, but a few weeks in the farmhouse can’t undo years of habit. but it was fine. it was fine if he spent a good few hours of his day cleaning up mikey’s paint. it was fine if donnie’s gadgets were scattered across the table. it was fine if leo left dishes in the sink from a meal he couldn’t be bothered to share.

it was fine.

raph was fine.

his brain woke him up early. it always did. he had to make breakfast and clean up the mess everyone probably made after he turned in for the night, and donnie probably hasn’t showered in awhile, so he needs to get on that and-

“you’re thinking too loud.” a voice grumbled from below him. that was odd. casey was never up this early. that was new. “quit it.”

“…sorry.” raph muttered, lifting his head from casey’s chest. that was relatively new too. he saw the way mikey looked at them, like he knew something they didn’t. he and casey were old friends, even if the bed thing was new. “i didn’t know you were up.”

“oh, im up alright. i’m up to make sure that you aren’t.”

“huh?” he asked, his eyes narrowing in confusion as he glanced up at casey’s face. his hair was tousled with sleep, leaving his eyes actually visible in the soft light of dawn. the warm sun hit the brown irises perfectly, casting them in honey.

“you heard me.” casey yawned, tossing a tan arm over his eyes. the long, thick strands of his uncut hair splayed across the pillow in tendrils. slithering out across the cotton to root their host into the mattress. “you’re sleeping in.”

that’s new too.

his mind screamed in protest. he didn’t do well with change; he never had. that was his routine—his new one. he woke up early, made breakfast, ate as much as his body would allow him, and then some, and then cleaned. leo would wake up next, take his fill, not clean his plate, and fuck off to god knows where. then mikey would emerge, and then donnie. april came down a few hours later, and then finally casey would wake up. it was never like this; he was never last.

some part of him, deep inside his psyche, begged for a break. sleeping in would be nice. he couldn’t think of a place he’d rather be than right here—casey’s arm wrapped around his shoulder, holding his head against the soft flesh of his stomach while absolutely shrouded in blankets. he hadn’t been this comfortable in years.

he was wasting time. dad never liked waiting for breakfast.

dad wasn’t here, and frankly, he could go fuck himself.

it took twenty-one days to form a habit. how long does it take to break one?

without a word, raph settled back into casey’s body and closed his eyes.

—:—

the next time he woke up, casey was still under him. the sun was higher in the sky, now painting the walls in golden rays as opposed to the vibrant pinks and blues of dawn. his friend's hand ran across the ridges of his shell, rendering him practically immobile. his limbs were loose with contentment, and his vision was hazy as he flicked his eyes around the room.

“mornin’. again.” casey grinned down at him, that gap-toothed smile wide, and pleased with his own poor joke. his fingers never stopped their soothing motions on his carapace, though, so raph decided to let it go.

his eyelids felt heavy as he forced them to stay open, blinking sleep away while flexing his body. every finger, every toe, arms, legs, and then finally his neck as he lifted his head from casey’s warmth.

“what time is it?” he asked, pushing his body up into a sitting position, much to his mind's dismay. everything in him was screaming to lay down again, to soak up casey’s warmth like the man was a rock in the sun. he may as well be with his body temperature.

casey helped him up, his big hands steady against his biceps as he manoeuvred raph into a sitting position in front of him. the sheets pooled around their waists as raph leaned his head against casey’s shoulder. the room was so cold now.

“c’mon.” raphs shoulder was prodded gently, and he raised his head to gaze into where casey’s eyes hid behind his hair. his voice was soft and low, like a vibration in the air.

maybe that could explain the tingling in his spine.

bare, tan feet hit the floor first, before his hand gently tugged the turtle off the mattress. still dazed with sleep, he stumbled, leaning into casey’s side to take the weight off of his unsteady legs. the stairs were the hardest to conquer, with all three of raphs fingers grasping casey’s wrist while they manoeuvred down the steps.

a muffled scolding sounded from the next room, and raph felt something inside of him freeze. it wasn’t dad splinter. splinter usually yelled, or even just spoke, but he never tried to make himself quieter. maybe the humiliation of everyone else knowing you were in trouble was part of the punishment.

“i swear to fucking god.” the voice spoke, tone controlled yet flaming. “i’m done watching him pick up after you guys. i love you, you’re my friends, but you need to get your shit together.”

his brain didn’t quite comprehend who was speaking until he heard the next voice.

“it’s not that big of a deal.” leo’s familiar tone punctured the air. raph refused to allow the sound to stab him like the knife it always was. “he’s done it forever! i’m sure he’s used to it by now!”

“that doesn’t mean it’s fine, leo!”

“april, w-we’re all getting better…aren’t we? i mean, we clean up after ourselves decently...”

“no, the house is clean because raph is still cleaning up after you guys like he’s your mom!”

casey’s hand tightened a fraction on his shoulder, and he looked back down at him with a grin. “how about we go outside, yeah? it’s s’posed to be real nice out.”

before raph could complain or comply, he was already being led in the other direction, hearing the voices fade back out. he opened his mouth, and casey cut him off. “i know you’re hungry. i’ll getcha something. wait outside for me? ‘kay?”

and like that, he was gone. the door closed behind him as raph turned his eyes to the tree line, plush with vibrant leaves and dark soil. remnants of dew still clung to the blades of grass, shining brightly in the light of the sun.

the wood of the patio was warm against his feet, and he leaned his elbows to the railing, licking his eyes into the woods. his eyes were still heavy, and the place around his neck where casey’s arm previously lay left a pleasant scorch sinking into his skin. still, the voices from inside bounced in his skull. at least the yelling was familiar.

somethings never change.

Monster-sized Misunderstanding AU: Intersecting Paths
@gl0ssix
Tumblr media
Hi and thank you! ^ ^
I always read the tags and respond when I have answers or replies. Sometimes, they do get lost amongst other notifications, or I forget.
It was several of them against one "monster", so they could have thought they overpowered it with numbers and weapons and scared it off. Also when going off the assumption it killed your brother, thinking things through isn't really on the table for most of them.
Especially not Raph or Casey. April because of the guilt since she was supposed to be watching him. Mikey, it's a toss between being emotionally devastated and trying to hold it together to help Leo, Who would be trying to not fall apart because he's supposed to be the leader and needs to set an example as well as protect the others from any more attacks and themselves if they try to do something stupid.
Another thing to think about is how Leatherhead will react when he finds out from the others. They either call to ask for help or visit because they can't find it after Donnie starts staying with Leatherhead.
Over the phone, Leatherhead asks why, and they tell him. Their visiting leads to them attacking and Leatherhead trying to convince them his new friend means no harm, which the others don't take well. Raph yells at Leatherhead to tell that to the blood stains that used to be Donnie.
Leatherhead could think it was them being more lost after first mutating that made them attack Donatello. This means it wouldn't be completely their fault but it didn't change the fact his friend is gone because of them. It would be a very conflicting circumstance.
Alternatively, Leatherhead hears only bloodstains left and realizes things funny add up. There should have been a lot more of a mess considering his new friend's lack of control. Something is going on here and Leatherhead needs to find out what.
Either way, it would probably create conflict between Leatherhead and the others since he's keeping them away from one thing they've been after.

Grizzly Truth
Warnings: Rushed Gore description, death mention, if he wasn't there (you'll know what), nightmares, the start of my Peepaw project. Immediate Nightmare, If you wanna skip just go to the [Nightmare Ends]
Michelangelo was thrown across the lair, blood flying from his mouth as a loud resounding crack erupted over the sounds of fire and fallen concrete.
To his left lay an unmoving Donatello, his body looked broken but his face looked peaceful.
Like he was sleeping in the world's worse position.
Leo probably had the worse death, he was impaled through the shell..as though he had been falling.
His death was slow, he was alive to see Splinter get crushed.
Raph was putting up more of a fight, but despite being rusty, their opponent was always stronger than them at full strength.
"MIKEY!"
There was a crack and a splay of blood splattered across Michelangelo's face.
The youngest watched as his brother's throat was peirced by a purple vine, lifted off the ground and carelessly tossed aside.
He landed near the burned bodies of Cassandra and April.
"Papa? Why?"
Baron Draxum towered over his creation, his failed experiment, and sneered.
"Do not call me that, you are nothing but failed experiments." Like that Michael's world was filled with pain and darkness.
Baron Draxum dropped the youngest's body into the fire, turning on his heel as he exited
No regrets, no hesitation, no care.
{Nightmare Ends}
Gasping for air Barry popped up from the turtle pile and looked around.
Instead of blood soaked and burned bodies, it was his sleeping children and Lou. He sighed with relief.
Tomorrow was the day his older version taught him how to regain his lost power.
Speaking of his older self, Barry looked around freezing at the sight before him.
His older self, Bear, stared over the family, practically looming over them all. A single hand over Future Boy's head, the other hovered over Raphael.
He didn't know what came over him, but a deep rumble escaped him.
The hand hovering over Raph didn't move but Bear did look up, "It has been a long time since I've seen Raphie."
Raphie…he had been calling Raphael since he got here, Baron called him that a few times but each time there was a breakdown or replying to a tease.
"What happened to him? I know he died, but Future Boy didn't say anything-" He was interrupted by a wave of a hand.
"You tell me what your nightmare was about and I'll tell you about Raphie's fate."
Draxum frowned and nodded slowly, he removed himself from the pile and walked towards Lou's room.
Bear followed, dipping down to enter the now small door frame, and closed the door behind him.
The large goat waved a hand and instantly the room became soundproof.
"I killed everyone, once I got my powers…In my dream I had no regrets, I laughed. It scared me. I love them, they are mine and it scares me." Tears flowed down his fuzzy face.
Bear hugged him, strong in a way that Draxum hadn't felt in a long time.
"Leonardo, Raphael and myself were on a mission, I was still fresh from gaining my life force back, so it was a simple mission for me.
Just a supply run, I thought nothing of it. We were looting the school, I just had to visit the cafeteria. There were so many little skulls there, my teenagers were hiding there until they subcame to one thing or another.
That's when we found out the Kraang could reanimate recently deceased or use them for armor.
I hate to admit I froze, I stopped at the sight of a fleshy being armored with eyes, skulls and spines.
Of course Leonardo helped me there, and we fought back to back until Raphael rained down from the ceiling like a vengeful Angel.
We were winning, until the sister Kraang appeared. She flung me into a wall and was prepared to stab Leo after hitting him prone…
Raphie, our biggest and oldest, jumped between sister Kraang and Leo. Stabbed through the heart, but sealing the sister's fate…
Raphael gains a dangerous and terrifying move that would have been wonderful…
He absorbed her energy and by extension..her.
If more enemies hadn't shown up, if I had a better handle on my magic…Raphie probably could have lived. The resistance would have lived. CJ would have his family and I would have married Lou like we talked about…but I wouldn't be able to focus if I only thought about the "what ifs" but I rather live in the moment for my family. We both know Michael would scold us if we didn't."
It was a lot, Draxum could see Bear crying and the large goat held him a bit tighter.
The two stood there, holding each other like lifelines and crying.
Once separated, Bear held Barry at arms length and stares him down.
"Don't worry about the nightmare, it is just a warning to hold back when interacting with them."
"Like you held Raphael upside down with a vine and increased gravity on Leonardo?"
".....Yes."
"Titan above you is such a drama queen."
"Says the theater kid."
The two went back and forth with the banter until they both felt tired. Getting rid of the spell and entering the living room, the duo saw that no one moved.
Though Splinter did look at them in confusion as Barry got back into the pile, bringing the rat in close and shaking his head.
The remaining trio finally fell asleep, all at peace until the loud morning in a few hours.
A/N: This AU is called Grizzly. I think you can tell why.

Happy Valentine's Day / Singles Awareness Day, everyone!
Below/Under the cut is some Turtle boyz headcanons for their first Valentine's with their S/O bc everyone is gonna want 'em! Their S/O is you/a gender neutral reader!
Incarnations: 2012/2k12, Rise/Rise of the TMNT
Warnings: Cursing (bc I swear like a sailor and thus I will let the boys say(?) fuck as well.)
Other things: All of the TMNT boys are around the same age as reader, while not specifically any age, this is assuming everyone is in the same-ish age range.
Also, there's no specific part of either show these take place in, but it does have some mentions of season 1 places and things for both.
Cool? Cool.
2012:
Leo:
Leo is such a cheesy ass dork. We know this. So it's not shocking that he has the day planned for you.
He has everything planned a few days before in advance, in fact.
Leo 100% stole from a flower cart while nobody was looking the night before V-day, and then dropped some money off to "pay" for it.
Look he's trying OK? There's only so much he can do as a mutant turtle. That just goes to show how much he loves you if anything.
Knowing the Leader's luck, they probably wilted a little bit RIP (please tell him you love the flowers)
Somehow Lee convinced Don to borrow the Shellraiser to drive you out far enough from NYC to do a stargazing date.
He loves space, he loves you, it's a perfect date!
"I love you, my comet."
Raph:
You'd think not in a MILLION years would Raph be into Valentine's Day.
...I mean, you'd be half right???
Look, in front of his brothers and acquaintance, he would just call it Single's awareness day and call it all overpriced fucking nonsense.
But then he manages to get you both alone in either his room or yours, and then it all melts away, albeit with hesitance.
He takes out a little stuffed animal he managed to knit together for you, the stuffed animal being either your favorite animal, or a teddy bear. It's red for obvious reasons.
Raph's spontaneous date for Valentine's is honestly just saying "fuck it" and relaxing with you. Whether that's watching something on TV, or reading something side by side.
But if you have something else in mind, he'll happily do it. He just asks that whatever date, and the stuffed animal in turn, is your guys little secret.
"...Love ya, doll."
Donnie:
If the eldest brother was cheesy, Donnie is the goddamn king of sappy. We love that for him though.
Hon, he was on top of doing something for Valentine's since midnight rolled into Febuary.
First off, no duh he built you a little mechanical trinket. That part is obvious.
But Donnie also managed to talk to Murakami-san and set up a little after hours dinner date just for the two of you.
Everyone say "Thank you Mr. Murakami."
Poor thing is so nervous the entire day though, even after y'alls date, baby boy n o-
Please reassure him you loved everything he did and give him validation.
"You know I love you... Right, my sweet?"
Mikey:
He's nearly bouncing off the walls from excitement today.
He didn't plan anything in particular, but he's so excited to stay by you the entire day.
Somehow managed to make chocolate for you? Ho w did he even get the ingredients to make it??? The world may never know.
It's either really good, or you have to make an excuse to save them for later and toss them when you get home.
There is absolutely no in-between when it comes to this boy. I mean, it's the thought that counts I guess?
No matter what, Mikey takes you to a skate park for a date, just to show off.
If you can skate, you can skate with him! If not, he'll show off his moves even more to you!!!
"Man, I love you so much, baby cakes!"
Rise:
Leo:
Someone help our boy in blue, he's SUCH a trainwreck.
Our usual suave faceman has left the building, folks. He is so nervous about Valentine's with his partner, and he always wants to so earnestly do a good job.
Leo is going the whole nine yards when it comes to you, we're talking roses and chocolates when he comes knocking, dinner date at Run of the Mill pizza, probably busts out the suit, all of it.
He probably forgot that, maybe a pizzeria and suit is a bad combo, but leave him alone he's fucking tryin g-
Let's be honest with ourselves... He probably tripped a couple dozen times just GETTING to the Pizzeria with you, so he's more then likely got his suit all dirty in some fashion </3
Also, Señor Hueso 1 0 0 % shits on Leo the whole time, and if you weren't dating him and thus feeling bad for Lee, you'd laugh your ass off at Hueso's snark to the now dying inside turtle.
After that dinner, please build him back up, he'd be over the moon knowing he didn't completely screw up Valentine's.
"Thanks, babe. I love you so much."
Raph:
You'd think his nervous stink would be starting up... But surprisingly, no, he's actually feeling really chill.
He just wants to hang out with you all day, and if you have any plans, he'll happily go with but otherwise??? He didn't plan anything particular.
Now that is NOT to say he doesn't care, hell no. He just really wants to chill with you and vibe and have a lazy day.
And knowing how momma hen he normally is? Yeah that honestly WOULD count as a date for him to just not worry about a thing besides hanging out with you.
He probably does make you a little something though. He's not as arts and crafty like Mike is, but he probably can make you a little stuffed animal or, at worst, a tiny card.
Big guy honestly wants to spoon you and/or cuddle all day and not have to move a muscle aside from that. That's his own version of heaven.
And honestly? No giant teddy bear compares to the one Raph is on Valentine's.
"Just know that I love you, honey."
Donnie:
Now this is the boy you'd assume would be the chill one, swapping any sort of nervousness with Raph, but FUCK no.
Don is, much like his twin, is running around like a chicken without it's head on Valentine's.
Normally he was never this so hyper aware of the February holiday, but then you entered his heart, and that dismissiveness went FLYING out the goddamn window like a rocket on one of his inventions gone awry.
But eventually once everything is planned out and ready, he leads you into all the dramatic flair that is so incredibly Donnie, that it's no surprise how utterly romantic it is.
You adore it all, maybe even lightly teasing, and it's enough to take all of Donnie's stress away, and just... Enjoy the night.
Like the chaotic but corny nerd he is, our boy in purple legit MADE fireworks just to set off for you to watch with him. (And if you're sensitive to them, he just made a little robot with sparklers.)
If you're not, let's hope your date isn't in the middle of NYC, or there are gonna be fucking COMPLAINTS about them fireworks oof-
"I adore you, my love. My everything."
Mikey:
OH THIS SWEETHEART
He made the BEST chocolates just for you, no cap. Nobody except you can have them.
All three brothers whined about it for the rest of the month TBH that Mikey didn't at least ask them to sample the test chocolates.
Mikey argues back though that they can suck it up bc the bae comes first, always. <3
Besides the chocolates, Mikey didn't plan much of anything for Valentine's day. He just wanted to eat chocolate and vibe.
If you have a date idea or date planned though, he is going to ASCEND.
Doesn't matter if your only date idea was watching a movie, if it's any sort of date idea, he just,,, full of love,,,
"Have I told you how much I love you, sweetie-pie?"

Hi! Could I get HC from the guys? 👀 How they would always react to catching the reader seeing them "badly", in addition to the fact that he usually avoids them, but with his brothers it is incredible and they feel bad because they think they do not like him.  But she actually likes them and she looks at them like that because she "studies" them to draw them and she is too clumsy and shy to talk to them, that's why she ends up avoiding them. Until finally he catches her drawing them with lots of hearts or maybe they'll find her notebook with lots of portraits of them.
It's kind of funny because when I study people to draw them, they think that I look at them with hatred xd maybe I should increase my glasses prescription
God, glasses are such a pain in the ass but I have to wear them. If I don't anyone within my near vicinity doesn't have a face. But why they gotta get dirty so easily???? Makes me wanna explode or something
TMNT Headcanons
The boys w/ a quiet reader who is fine with his brothers but acts cold around him and stares a lot
Tumblr media
Michaelangelo
mikey couldn't describe his disappointment upon realizing that you didn't want to be friends with him
well, you never actually said that to him
but he was pretty sure it was the case
you'd never made an effort to be friends with him
stared at him an awful lot though, but there was always something off about your gaze when you looked at him
like you were sizing him up, scrutinizing him, like he was an opponent
it kinda worried him
to add to that, you didn't even attempt to look embarrassed when he caught you staring
you'd just stare harder
on your end it was quite the opposite
you always found the brothers fascinating and you LOVED studying their anatomy, you'd confessed this to Donnie early on and he happily indulged in your questions
and you loved how easily you got along with the boys
well, except for Mikey
but it wasn't for a lack of trying
whenever the orange sporting turtle came around your normally flamboyant personality crept back into its little corner and hid
any words of excitement that had previously been with you died in your throat
for the longest time you didn't understand it
and you hated not understanding things, so you turned to your only outlet
that's how you ended up with an entire sketchbook full of the youngest brother in vastly different styles and poses
you had a separate book for the others, none of them as detailed as this
and when you stared to analyze you'd fallen into a habit of not looking away when caught
by your logic, if you stared back hard enough he'd look away first or just assume you'd zoned out
he didn't
and on one hectic day you'd left your sketchbook open on the kitchen table in your rush to get to work
you hadn't even noticed the slip up until Leo texted you to let you know during your shift
instant panic
in truth, Mikey was the one who discovered the book upon waking up from his nap and he'd spent the next three hours analyzing every drawing
when you finally dropped in after work to grab your book the turtle was waiting for you with it in hand
he'd asked you if you hated him
you told him no and accepted your sketchbook from him
he was relieved and screaming excitedly, just in his head
"Do you maybe wanna hang out sometime?"
You sighed in relief and nodded
"If you're cool with it- you don't think I'm weird do you?"
"I mean- you are talking to a turtle..."
you lightly shoved his chest and smiled, although it faded within a second
"Oh hush, 10 o'clock tomorrow? I'll bring snacks."
he was so stunned he could only shoot you finger guns in approval
Tumblr media
Donatello
Donnie genuinely couldn't understand your unease around him
he'd followed all the proper expectations of holding a conversation
he was polite and engaging
so why wouldn't you talk to him?
this boy has read so many social blogs to try and figure out what he was doing wrong and he just couldn't put his finger on it
you were fine with the rest of his brothers, you'd stay up for hours laughing and gaming with them
you'd even sat still long enough to listen to Leo explain some old Japanese myth that he'd read about in a book
but with him it was always a quick, cordial greetings and farewells with bland small talk in between
Donnie had picked up pretty quickly that you weren't interested in any sort of interaction with him
and he convinced himself that that was okay
but that didn't explain the staring
he'd caught you in the act several times, eyes narrowed and locked on him
especially when you were alone with him in a room or just in the lair
the poor turtle just couldn't put his finger on it
then he caught you drawing, he noticed early on that you always carried a small sketchbook on your person but he didn't think much of it
and it wasn't so much that he caught you drawing, in fact, he wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't snapped at him while he was trying to do a sudoku puzzle
"Damn it Donnie! Stop moving! If I fuck this arm up one more time I'm gonna decompose!"
he'd quickly moved back into the position he was in prior
"sorry?"
but you'd gone silent again, occasionally glancing up from your work and running your eyes along his frame before looking down again
nearly twenty minutes later Donnie had finished the puzzle and it seemed as though you had finished your drawing
"Uh- can I ask what are you-"
"I'm drawing you but you kept moving your arm and making me mess up. You always do that when I draw you so every damn picture I have of you stays a sketch because you always come out looking like a fucking octopus."
He just stared
"Sorry, I uh- I didn't mean to explode on you like that. I'm just- I'm really bad at talking to you okay? It's so easy with everyone else but you've just gotta be so damn smart all the time and I worry that you'll think I'm boring so I just... don't talk to you?"
Donnie is stunned™
You refuse to show him the drawing until you can complete the line art and color it
But at least he knows that you don't hate him
Tumblr media
Leonardo
To be completely honest Leo didn't mind that you were distant from him
You created an aura of calm when you were around and you always managed to distract his brothers while you were present
And he enjoyed the alone time
But after a few months that calm acceptance turned into jealousy
Not that he would ever admit it
He would just push it off and ignore it, that usually seemed to work
So why wasn't it?
And your obvious staring problem didn't help at all
Leo didn't spend much time considering his appearance but something about your gaze made him self conscious
And he hated that with a passion
Why was it that you could hold entire debates with his siblings? Even his dad for gods sake. You'd have hour long conversations on almost everything but whenever he tried to say hello you'd make up some lame ass excuse and scamper away
He just wanted an explanation
It appeared that the answer resided in your sketchbook
You'd left it open on the couch when Raph had called you away to spar with him
Leo very delicately flipped through the pages, careful not to disturb some of the polaroid pictures of his brothers
He was admittedly surprised to find pictures of himself among the pages
One of him in a handstand, another of him meditating, there was even one of him mid sneeze that you'd recreated with pencil and paper
The image of his eyes was the most startling, but the book held no polaroid of his eyes
You drew them from memory
And he was shocked when you returned to the room and didn't immediately panic
But that might have been because he didn't try to withhold your book from you
"It took me three months to color them, your eyes. I could never get the shade of blue just right."
"I'm gonna be honest with you y/n, I really thought you didn't like me."
You had the nerve to roll your eyes and follow it with a laugh
"I don't. I mean- I do but no, you just remind me a lot of myself and I haven't exactly figured out why yet. I thought that maybe if I drew you it'd be easier to figure you out..."
"Well did it help?"
You grinned
"I'm talking to you, aren't I?"
Tumblr media
Raphael
If there was one thing Raph hated it was not understanding something that was right in front of him
which is ironic, as a much younger version of himself probably couldn't care less
and a part of him wishes he didn't care about it so much
he wishes that your blatant avoidance of him didn't upset him
but shit, it got under his skin better than any needle ever could
was it too much to ask for you to just tell him what he said or did wrong?
was he asking too much of you?
but on the same scale you'd never shown obvious dislike towards him, you were never rude and you sure as hell didn't talk shit about him to his brothers
you got along great with them
in fact it was getting more difficult to remember a time before you became a part of his family
he'd become so used to your presence that it no longer put him off when he found you hanging around the lair
but in another sense he was certain that you hadn't spoken more than three sentences to him in your time knowing him or his family
so what was the reason
several months in he finally caught onto the staring, your narrow, glassy gaze locked onto his body and refusing to look away
he stared right back at you
this annoyed you for several reasons
because within five seconds your very peaceful drawing session had turned into a staring contest and your eyes were getting VERY dry
then you exhaled in a half-sigh and looked back down at your paper
"Huh, I guess your head is more of an oblong shape..."
he took offense to this
"What tha' hell is that supposed t'mean?"
now your eyes held more of an amused silent judgement, you begrudgingly held up your sketchbook
"I'm drawing you, you fucking walnut."
"Oh..."
now you rolled you eyes and tossed the book to him, he nearly dropped it and fumbled with the pages
your annoyance was quickly growing
"Careful with that."
He flipped through the pages at a snails pace, assumingly because he couldn't quite believe what he was seeing
you had some real talent
when he looked back up at you he was wearing that crooked smile
"and here I was thinkin' that my eyes were just green."
Hope I was able to get this down pretty well! I really enjoyed writing this one! Thanks for the patience!

Beyond the bay chapter 2: Uninvited Visitor
Back at the lair, Leo and Raph couldn’t help but be anxious. It was six. The sun was rising, the city was waking. The shadows that hid them in the night were fading fast, and still there were no signs of Donnie or Mikey. Leo had given them the hour to get their pictures and get back, but it had been almost twice that without word. Raph had suggested calling them but was quickly shut down by Leo; if their brothers happened to be in a position where stealth was mandatory, such an action could easily doom their brothers to being spotted. All they could do was wait.
Simply sitting around and waiting in the living room with his father and brother quickly proved too irksome for Raph to handle. He needed to be moving, doing something to keep his mind occupied and away from the infuriating worry of Donnie and, most importantly, Mikey. Without a word, he dismissed himself from his father and older brother in favor of busying himself with other matters— like getting himself ready for bed.
The red toothbrush was his; the whole color-coding fiasco, as childish as it had grown to be, was useful in keeping his and his brothers’ stuff from getting mixed up. If they hadn’t had been marked with the distinctive bright colors, Raph was sure than one or all of his brothers would have absently selected the wrong toothbrush in their rush to get the nightly routine over with.
Raph started to clean his teeth. Then he gave a curious growl as his arm was ticked with a faint breeze. Wind was very rare this deep in the sewer, and Raph doubted that the old rat or steadfast fearless leader would be rushing enough to be creating a breeze. What then…?
Raph’s attention was drawn beside him, to the closed shower curtain; it seemed it too had caught the breeze, as it was swaying just barely, rings clanking together. Raph put one hand on his sai as he cleared the distance to the tub with a single, long stride. A flash of green had him slamming the curtains open to reveal an empty bathtub.
Raph huffed, his lips curling up to flash canines as he shook his head. There was a slam, and several solid thud-like footsteps that faded away faster than Raph could turn around. The door was closed now, and in the process of bouncing back open.
“Oh hell no!” Raph slammed the door open completely with his shoulder, both hands planted firmly on his sai as he ran back down the hall. “No demon getting my ass today! LEO!”
“What?” Leo’s tone was sharper than he had intended, irritation so strong that it leaked out into the very words he spoke. Then, like it was popped with a needle, the storm clouds of worry poofing away at the sight of Raph, suds overflowing his mouth and toothbrush still hanging out of his lips. “Hey, hey— what’s up?”
“There was a damn demon in the bathroom!”
“What?” Leo narrowed his eyes slowly.
Splinter left Leo’s side in favor of venturing to the second son, raising a hand to stroke the bowed Raph’s cheek with a gentle paw.
The lair was then filled with an alarm of incoming. Leo swore under his breath so his father couldn’t hear as he backed up and prepared for a dash to the weapon room. The voice that came down the tunnel seconds later was one familiar to him.
“Leo!” Donnie came around the corner just as Leo registered his brother's voice. “Leo Leo Leo Leo Leo—“
Donnie shuffled down the tunnel as quickly as he dared risk with the precious cargo in his arms. Six hundred pounds of dead weight was never easy to carry, and several times his footing had started to slip as he descended the sloping entrance. Raph and Leo were there quickly to take the burden off of their brother, Raph taking on the brunt of Mikey’s weight while Leo split his attention between both Mikey and Donnie. The worried father followed quickly, whiskers tickling Mikey’s neck while he weaved to avoid getting under his sons’ feet.
“What happened?” Leo demanded; he was supporting Mikey’s head while the groggy younger turtle tried to swipe him away, muttering some incoherence.
“I don’t know. We were taking pictures and he just shut down. He’s— he’s conscious but— but I don’t know.”
But Donnie did know. At least, he was almost sure he knew. The muscle spasm, the slurred speech, dazed look. The way Mikey was staring and the way he slumped and almost fell off of the roof. Donnie had a theory that clutched him like a cold claw but he knew better than to voice it until it was no longer just a theory, but a proven reality. They made it to the needle room. With Leo’s gentle guidance, he and Raph put Mikey down on the bed while Donnie scrambled to grab all the supplies he needed.
“Mm…” Mikey winced as Donnie held his eyelids open to assess the pupils. Mikey tried to pull away, his arm tensing as he made an attempt to lift it and further resist the exam, but it refused to listen. “Heavy…”
“I know Mike…” Donnie soothed gently, then quickly leaned over to Raph, “Keep him still if you can.”
Raph nodded and put his hands gently on Mikey’s shoulders, leaning in just enough weight to keep Mikey still while Donnie examined the right arm, massaging deft fingers across it. Mikey yelled and tried to sit up, but Raph was there to correct the attempt. He shushed his baby brother gently and leaned his head down to press his forehead to Mikey’s. After a moment, Mikey pressed back and gave a cluck of gratitude. Donne finished up his exam.
“How is he?” Splinter asked, looking up to his purple-clad son. In the black of the rat's eyes reflected worry for his youngest; he took Mikey’s hand in his own and kissed it to let Mikey know he was there. Mikey giggled and squeezed his father's hand in turn.
“He’s awake— that, that’s good right?” Leo asked urgently.
Donnie took a sharp breath through his nose. He opened his mouth to say something, then shook his head and let out an exasperated breath.
“Raph— could you get Mikey some water? He’s probably really thirsty.”
“O-oh— yeah.” Despite his agreement, Raph didn't immediately move away. He kept his head pressed against Mikey’s for several seconds longer before a touch on his shoulder made him naturally look up to acknowledge the second presence.
No words were exchanged between Donnie or Raph, the details in their eyes telling the other brother everything they needed to know. Donnie gave a soft chuff, but that was all. Raph left without looking back, because he knew if he did look back, he wouldn’t be able to leave. Get to the kitchen, get lemon water, and get back. That was his task and he repeated it multiple times over in his head before he had even reached the kitchen.
Tap water would be just fine, right? He had already filled up the glass before he shook his head and dumped out the glass. No, his brother deserved better. The water filter was broken yet again as another example of the ‘machines hating Leo’ situation that was a constant in their life. First it was the toaster, and now it was like almost every kitchen appliance fearless touched rejected him. He was still adamant that Donnie must have programmed it to always happen. Raph laughed and shook his head as various examples of the struggle between turtle and machine came to his mind. A bottled water would do just fine. He poured half of it into a dense mug, then added ice because he knew how Mikey loved the crunch. He got the lemons last; this was his kitchen, his space, so he knew exactly where to find the fruit and the knife appropriate to cut with.
Raph added half of the slices; instead of just throwing the other half of the sour fruit away, he simply tossed it into his mouth and ate it whole. Bitter as it was, food was still food, and he refused to waste one bit of it. Another rush of wind tickled Raph’s carapace, but to the turtle it was like being hit with a brick. Especially when he saw the specter appear behind him, hurrying past the kitchen door with a steady clank clank clank of heavy footsteps. Raph swore loudly, rushing to place the water on the counter and free his hands up to grab his sai. Whatever that thing was, no way it could be left wandering the lair with his little brother hurt! Not if he had anything to say about it, and he did.
He pursued the distant steps, his strides long enough to close the distance in enough time to see the curtains that sectioned off Donnie’s lab flutter.
“Got you now you little—” Raph yanked the curtains open, flashing his weapons in a threat against—!
Nothing. There was nothing there. There was no spot in Donnie’s lab that could hide anyone of any significant size, but maybe if the intruder was small…? That was the only explanation because Donnie’s lab was tucked into a corner and there would have been no way for the stranger to escape without Raph seeing him. Raph started to look in every nook and cranny that held the possibility of hiding someone. Under desks, behind machines, behind the monitors. Whatever it was had disappeared into thin air! Or maybe…
Raph found his eyes drifting to a particular artifact on Donnie’s shelf; an M-shaped medallion with a cross through the middle of it, glistening gold and orange. A fiberglass casing protected the special gift from their counterparts that they had yet to use. The past two years had been very eventful, and it was with a heavy sigh Raph realized that, with all the visits their counterparts had made to see them, they had yet to return the favor and visit the other world. Even after going so long without a visit from their other selves, Leo had still denied every request to visit them instead. Raph felt a weight in his throat. He missed his friends, and he hoped they were okay. It had been six months with no word from them…
“Raph?” Leo’s sharp words cut through Raph’s somber thoughts. Raph looked over his shoulder to see Leo come into the lab, nostrils flaring his frustration as he confronted his brother. “What are you doing in here?”
“I… I was just…” Raph didn't know how to explain it, so his words fell short. He half-motioned over to the pendant gift, and then around at the lab.
Leo sighed and shook his head. “You were supposed to be getting water for Mikey. Come on.”
Raph wanted to think of a snarky remark, but nothing came to mind as he followed Leo out of the lab.

                                                         (#)(#)\/(#)(#)
Prince Leonardo Pumpington Cuddle Wuddle Baby the Twenty-Fifth awoke as he always does. With a minor headache and more tired than when he laid down twelve hours ago despite sleeping on a triple sized king bed under the fluffiest blankets made from only the finest endangered species. He pushes up his eye mask and waves off the Choir standing by his side that acted as his personal alarm before sinking once again into his soft warm bed. Staring at the ceiling and mural of himself winking. Leo made sure to wink back with finger guns, as was his usual morning ritual. He was content to lay in bed for the rest of the day (which wouldn’t be unusual) when the large ornate double doors swung open. A familiar octopus stepped in with a wide smile but eyes that were forever nervous ,”Go-good Morning my Prince! Are you ready to wake up? Where would you like your breakfast?”
The prince stretched his overly privileged arms. He could always have breakfast in bed again, that thought was always appealing, “I‘ll eat in Dining Hall Three today.” He claps his hands together loudly. Two of the more muscular choir members quickly moved lift him out of bed, holding him over their heads like a religious object and carry him out of the room. The hallways are covered in beautiful rare oil paintings, but none of them held his attention until they pass by a large mirror. “Holdup,” he says waving his hand, the two attendants back up to the mirror again. Leo made sure to give his reflected self the self-appointed wink before snapping his fingers at an attendant who had doted alongside, “You go get my make up team and my manicure team. I refuse to look anything less than spectacular.”
“Yes of course my prince.” She she curtseys before hurrying off.  The attendants carrying him finally arrived in the large dining hall with a table longer than most roads. He was lowered onto a soft throne-like dining room chair before he clapped his hands together and another attendant, with a tray with an ornate tea pot came over with several ornate china teacups on the tray to see which one he’d want to go with his breakfast. He sipped one, “Too cold” he tosses the cup over his shoulder where it shatters on the ground. “Too hot” he tosses that one. “Too sour.” He tosses another, ”Too perfect...” he tosses again before letting out a large irritated sigh. “Go try again,” he snaps as that attendant runs off as well (trying their best not to step on broken pieces of fine china).
The prince leans back in his seat before a chef hustles out with a tray. “For you, your excellence!” he says lifting the lid off the tray and sets it in front of him, despite his already irritated attitude, he can’t help but smile at the delicious selection, the chef bows. ”Caviar Benedict, with a maple syrup glaze, a side of cinnamon churro asparagus and a glass of,” he sighs, “le Choccy Milk.”
“Aw perfect!” Leo waves off the tired chef.  It’s not long after he’s finally given a good pot of tea and he’s leaning back in his seat. He has two attendants giving him a manicure, with a third applying his make-up and a fourth  lifting his tea to his mouth while a fifth one is leaning precariously around everyone else to try cut his food for him. “Taki!” he snaps to the octopus servant, “I have a headache so clear my schedule.”
‘I-oh-uh.” Taki let out a tremble. “My Prince what about your Aetherwave show? You told your fans you would take a dive into a pool of diamonds today.”
Leo scoffed. “And I told you my diamonds are dirty, throw them out and buy me new ones,” he says, turning his head towards an attendant who snapped his fan open and began to fan him off, “Did you replace my ring yet?”
“You mean the one of a kind diamond sapphire ring made for you by the master craftsman Jair-Red? I-I was trying to tell you that he recently passed-“
The Prince snaps his head in Taki’s direction with such intensity the octopus squeaks out in fear “Then get the necromancer and tell her to make him make me a new one.” He thought for a moment to make sure he had said that right. “And make sure this one is clean. Unlike that last one,” he scoffs as he remembers how disgusted he was when he found that smudge on his seventy third favorite ring. So disgusted in fact he had wasted no time in yanking it off and throwing it out the nearest window.
“Um, yes my Prince, I’m sure NecroNancy won’t mind coming into work on her birthday.” Ending in a tone that implied NecroNancy would not only mind coming into work but would also be very cross about it.
Leo let out a loud scoff, his throat was actually starting to hurt from making that noise so much “That’s not my problem is it!?” he demands as though daring Taki to imply otherwise.
“Yes, right, sorry My Prince.” Taki moves down his list. “Um, that was all you really had. Other than your concert tonight-“
Leo levels the octopus with a angry look, waving off the attendant who had just finished his eyeliner. “ I just told you cancel everything.”
“No-now I would your majesty.” Taki avoids his burning yellow eyes by looking at his paper, “Your mother was the one who requested the concert. And-“ the octopus gulps,” I do not think you want to disappoint her, do you?”
Leo’s hand bumps lightly against his teacup. Though barely noticeable to anyone else, Leo was painfully aware of his mistake. He flexes his trembling hand before regaining his composure, “Well if Mummy wants it then who am I to say no. I don’t suppose she’ll be at this one either?” he asks.
“No, My Prince, I'm sorry.”
Leo hides his disappointment by inspecting his new manicure, looking for a flaw to point out. Unfortunately, they were done to perfection. With a surge of irritation, he claps his hands together. “Leave me be!” he commands, “Go get my preparations ready.”
The staff bowed as they left, bumping into each-other as they hurried away to do their assigned tasks. When they were gone from sight, Leo sighed and leaned back as much as he could in his high back seat with a cup of tea in his hand before drinking from it.
He had gone three years without seeing his mother
What was another three to her?
                                                               (#)(#)\/(#)(#)
Leo spent the rest of the day in preparation for his concert relaxing in a gold water bath which took all the tension out of his body. Investing all that money to invent gold water was the best small fortune he had ever spent, (even if it was highly toxic to drink). A day of pampering and relaxation nearly killed off his sour mood. But before he knew it, while being fed diamond-grade gold grapes, Taki was reminding him of his recital.
He knew his mother had probably already picked out a recital outfit for him, but until then at least  he had a choice in what he would wear to the event. And for him it was his favorite aqua formal coat over a his white button up shirt and two toned pants with spats. He needed help from Jabot to put on his ruffle tie and pendant but other then that he was fine. The attendants loaded up any excess jewelry he would need between the recital and the parties afterwards.
Unfortunately, the platinum diamond carriage was being re-diamonded so he was stuck with the gold diamond studded carriage. He tapped his foot boredly  before flipping out his mystic mirror, twist a flash, he knew it was connected to the Aetherwave, which was at its strongest at the castles. “Hello my fibbly fabulous subjects, it’s your beloved and beautiful Prince, Leonardo Snuggly Wuggly the Twenty-Fifth, here to tell you of an upcoming recital featuring,” Leo made sure to tilt his head to catch the mystic sun on his cheek, “Yours truly, I hope you can all make it, though I doubt it. I’ll be sure to pay someone to describe it in full detail when I return.” Leo blew a kiss at the mirror before hanging up.
“Um,” Taki tapped his tentacles together. “My prince, please we talked about you broadcasting just before you leave. It's very dangerous you don’t want your enemies –“
Leo squeezes his eyes shut snapping his fan shut with such intensity that it interrupts Taki with a small squeak as though he understood how close he was to getting on the Princes last nerve. Leo turns to Taki with a large smile. “Taki, Taki, it’s Taki right? I’ve known you foorrrr…” Leo trails off in a way that leads to Taki to add, “E-ever since Big Mama brought you home.” His nervous face half hidden behind his clipboard as though it could somehow protect him.
“Right, right. A while, and maybe in this time I may have made you feel.” Leo danced his fan as though trying to conjure the word he was thinking of, “Comfortable? So as a Pirnce, it's my job to remind you.” He taps his fan on Taki’s forehead, “What does it mean to be a prince?”
“It-it means you’re one of a kind.” Taki stutters, “a a gift.” Leo gestures for him to continue, “a superbly burbly light from the stars.”
“That’s RIGHT Taki, very good.” Leo clapped his hands like one would clap at a dog on its hind legs, “I’m a a gift, you’re lucky enough to be able to be graced in my presence every day. And you.” Again, Leo’s fan taps him between the eyes, this time with enough force to make Taki step back with a tremble, “Well, there are millions like you. So, while I'm irreplaceable, that means there are millions of yokai who could do your job in your sleep, so you are….” Leo again trails off, gesturing for him to continue. Taki’s eyes filled with a sadness that Leo barely notices, as the octopus lowered his tear-filled eyes, “replaceable.”
“Very good Taki! Such a smart man!” with a final tap of his fan on Taki’s head, Leo climbed up into the carriage, a guard pulled the door open for him. He gave finger guns to the guards who sat in the drivers spot and on the back. Leo was about to swing in when he saw a massive brown dog sitting across from his would be spot.  Ugh,” he groaned, “Gus what are you doing?”
“Heya Prince!” Gus said happily, either oblivious to Leo’s disgust or just not caring. “Big Queen sent me here as extra muscle but you’re cool with that, right bro? Course you are!” The dog tore open a tin of bone shaped cookies he had brought along and began to tear into them without any dignity or manners. Leo scrunched up his beak before pulling himself in. Snapping open his fan to try and get the smell of “peasant” off him.
It wasn’t his fault they were all poor.
                                                                (#)(#)\/(#)(#)
Thanks to the best magic available the inside of the carriage kept the interior at a perfect temperature, judging by the shivering peasants working out in the fields, but thankfully that’s what curtains were for. Leo spent most of the journey looking through the dance recital choreography his mother had picked out for him. Why she bothered to do that he didn’t know. Tapping his foot in rhythm and trying to visualize what illusion would go best with the moves. He’d have a little time to practice before the event but he often did his best work on the fly. So eventually he gave up. At that point there was a heavy shadow against the curtain telling him they were passing a forest now. Leo was half asleep when the smooth ride was interrupted by a jarring hit and they came to a stop. He grabs the door to keep from flying forward as his anger swells back. “What is the glimbering meaning of this?!” he demands scooting towards the window. ”I swear if you make me late I'm throwing you all into the Battle-“  he goes to throw the curtain open when suddenly something heavy slams against the door. Leo drew back in shock as the carriage rocks heavily. He grabs at the framework to keep from falling on the ground. Before he could say anything, Gus was scrambling for the door. ”Don’t worry, your highness!  I’ll protect-“ But a moment later the door was thrown open and his bodyguard suddenly was yanked from view and thrown aside.
A cry of surprise escapes Leo, he scrambles for the door he was presses against and after a few frantic seconds manages to get the door open and fall out the other side just as he felt a hand grab at the back of his shirt. The prince rolls on the ground for a moment, surrounded by the sounds of combat and shouts. The neat clean purple guard of the Matriatch locked in a struggle against several larger dirty looking thugs that Leo could only assume were bandits when one of them turns and points at him, “There’s the Prince!”
No!
Kidnappers.
For a moment Leo hoped they were referring to another devilishly handsome prince when all eyes fell on him. Leo looks to his fallen guards in hopes that are just pretending to be horribly injured but judging by the pained groan of one of them lets out when one of the kidnappers steps over him he knows it’s a pipe dream. “Thanks for the Aetherwave video, kid,” one of the bandits with a crooked jaw says. “We had just about given up on getting you before you posted that. Now how about you be a good boy and don’t put up a fight.”
Leo would like to think he would have been brave if he had ever been in a life or death situation, but his trembling body betrays that dream as well.  But if he knows how to do anything, its talk. He musters a chuckle that he hopes is more humor then fear. ”Really? You geniuses thought coming after me was a good idea?” He puts on a wide grin as easy as a mask, “I am Prince Leonardo Snuggly Wubbly Baby the Twenty-fifth and I –“
“Um.” One of the bands looks off to his friends in confusion. “Wait that’s your name? For real? That’s just tragic.”
Despite himself, when the bandits start off laughing (he’s even sure he can hear one of the guards chuckling weakly into the ground) he blushes angrily, “Excuse me, you are criminals! I don’t except any of you to crimdididly criminals to understand a name of high society. Or someone of my power.” He snaps his fan out hard which suddenly fills the air with bright sparks with such intensity one of the bandits stumbles back in shock. He couldn’t help but feel satisfied at their awe and fear. “I am a master Mystician. I have trained with warlocks and wizards whose very power could turn the world inside out.  And you honestly think you have any chance of challenging me!?” He threw his free hand upward as a light explodes from his fingertips licking the air like a mighty firework that makes the bandits stumble back in shock in order not to be touched by the magic.
They are so enamored by the display, it takes them a moment to notice that Leo is, in fact, running away as fast as he can in a manner that not only raised the question if he had ever run a day in his life or even walked (like a deer that not only just realized they had legs but were on backwards).
Leo’s hands fumble for his panic broach at his throat while looking at the bandits who were just noticing his disappearance when his graceful toe caught on a large root and sent him hard onto the ground. The broach flying from his fingertips and sinking into a mud puddle. “Who put all this nature here?!” he shrieks in panic. He can already hear the bandits running after him, Leo hurries to his feet and turns towards where he had come from. Despite his panic he summons bright silver lights to his finger tips that he swipes through the air, creating a crystal web across the trees in the path. But not wanting to wait to see how long they would last Leo ran again, before he hears the crystal shatter behind him and sends. Before he can react a rock hits him hard in the shell, knocking him forward snd rolling across the hard ground, his only saving grace was the hard tree in front of him that stops him but sends pain shooting down his shoulder, causing him to cry out and hold the injured appendage. He turns to press his shell against the tree as the bandits are now far too close to his liking.
“You know what, your highness?” The square chinned bandit says. “That was a good try. Probably not the best escape attempt I’ve ever seen but definately the funniest.” The other bandits chuckle around him as he raises up the muddy remains of Leo’s Panic Pendant. “Maybe if you were actually as great as you think you are, then you might have stood a chance.”  His rough hands crushes Leo’s only hope before dropping the pieces to the ground and stepping froward, reaching towards him with the same sinfully dirty hand.
Leo turns his head away, anything to spare him the sight of the hand coming closer to grabbing him-
Something whistles through the air followed by the sound of impact and something hitting the ground hard.  Leo lowers his arm in time to see something jump over his head and land hard against the bandit in front of him with both feet, sending the Yokai flying. The interloper ducks underneath a bandit directly to his front that tries to punch him and plants his staff hard in the ground, vaulting over and sending a bandit flying back into a tree. The interloper swung his staff up into a defensive position. The impenetrable shadow of his raised dark plum hood stole his features from Leo sending a shiver down his shell , but he could assume that when he jabbed his staff at the  bandits it was a warning to go on. One of the bandits go to grab the leader when the interloper aims his staff at the unconscious bandit leader. Before he uses his toe to kick his money pouch up into his hands, before nodding at him. The bandits grab their leader by the ankles and run off into the forest after his friends.  After that, the interloper opened up the drawstring pouch and began to poke around inside.
It took Leo a moment to realize his life was no longer in danger, and that relief was swapped by a rage, “What took you so long?! I thought that Uncles Rangers were the best warriors in the kingdom,” he snaps. The interloper head tipped in his direction for a moment before going back to count the money in his bag. It takes Leo a moment to realize he’s being ignored and swells up his chest as he stomps in the interloper’s direction, “Don’t you ignore me! I thought I was dimbly done for!!! I am the Prince; my safety is your only priority.”
For the first time since he arrived, the interloper looked fully in his direction, his face cast in shadow by   his hood as though finally acknowledging his presence. He almost seems frozen at the sight of him, a fact Leo took to mean he understood his failings. “Thats right, when we get back to the castle I'm going to make sure you are thrown in a dungeon-“ Leo didn’t have a chance to finish his threat before the hooked staff appeared again and caught him around the ankle.
The moment his head hit the ground his world went black.
                                                              (#)(#)\/(#)(#)
It feels like a life time before Leo opens his eyes again and when he does he’s welcomed by a splitting headache. He instinctually tries to rub his head only to find his arms have been bound with his wrists behind him. Not painfully but it is enough to make him glare at the figure sitting against a tree several feet in font of him. Now Leo can see this figure lacks the fine, if plain, tunic of a Ranger. He’s wearing poor peasant clothing that seems to hang off him, wrapped in a dark plum cloak, the only indication of his skin came from his bare two-toed green feet and fingerless gloves. He’s watching Leo from his spot with his arms over his chest. If Leo hadn’t known better, he would have thought that he had fallen asleep. Except, even though Leo can't see his face, he feel his eyes on him which only adds to his anger and irruption. He can’t actually tell how much time has passed only that they are not in the same clearing as they had been a moment ago but a more secluded spot, where the mushroom trees where much closer together.  “Excuse me?!” he snaps. ”What is the meaning of this?!” he demands. “You're not a ranger, are you?! You’re just some- some, weirdo living in the woods huh?!? Huh!? Do you want a ransom too!!??” he demands. A part of him is almost desperate for a response at his point.
“I don’t like to waste my words.”
Leo blinks. He had thought the figure might have been close to his age, but to hear his actual voice still shocks him. The thief falls silent again, drinking from a tin cup that smells like cheap old coffee that Leo can smell from here.  The thief stands up and-spins his staff around his hand again lazily. “The truth is, I haven’t decided what to do with you yet. Ransoming you out won't do me any good, I'd live the rest of my life with a target on my back. Which isn’t ideal. I could rob you I guess, but I'm not sure I want it brother myself with stuff that smells so flowery. But that’s if I wanted to be professional” The thief dumps his cup out by his side. “I could just take everything you have and dump you in the deepest darkest part to the woods.“
At first Leo wonders if it's possible to have a heart attack from fear alone.  But at the moment his heart seems determined to try. Kidnappers were one thing; he had been warned about them his whole life. But this person didn’t sound like they were all too interested int that. This sounded more like—
Leo blinks, his eyes going to the hooked staff that hasn’t left the thief’s side. Though the twisting hooked wood is nothing special to him, other than a dark gray handle at the end that seemed to summon the weapon, he sees a dark crystal hovering inside the hooked circle at the tip. The purple with a hint of pink is achingly familiar and the moment he recognizes he had owned it he can't’ help but let out a full-on laugh. It brings him no small amount of satisfaction to see the Thief look in his direction again. “I get it, you’re one of the orphans Mummy threw out before me,” he sneers. “Awwww you poor thing. Jealous that Mummy saw you for the worthless unlovable, pieces of trash you are? Is that it, little boy-“
The figure is in front of him in half a blink, lifting him up by the front and slamming him hard into the tree behind with such speed that Leo cries out in panic as dark pink eyes burn into him with such intensity Leo could feel the red hot rage about to be unleashed on him, “You know, you’re right?” the Thief says in a way that almost makes Leo think he’s sneering, “Since i’m  a no one.” He twists the shirt up tighter in his hands, “Then I got nothing to lose-“
Before Leo could see his life flash before his eyes, there's a flash of red energy and the Thief jumps away in in time to avoid a giant fist red of energy swiping at him. In the time it takes Leo to hit the ground, the Thief summersaults underneath another giant hand and snatches up his hooked staff and roll to his feet. A giant bulking figure jumps out from the tree line, sliding across the ground before coming to a stop.
“Comet Farts!” the Thief gasps.
Not that Leo could blame him, the figure now standing between him and the Thief was more muscular then any of his guards, a large snagle tooth hanging from he mouth and  with a thick  that would put a tree to shame, Leo had seen snapping turtles before but none that big. He was wrapped in a black cloak and grey traveling gear, his head is marked off by a red bandana that’s fixated on the Thief.  “In the name of Captain Jupiter James Guild, you are under-arrest for kidnapping and grand larceny and-“ The giant snapping turtle looks to his hand, Leo could just see a list of crimes the bounty hunter hand written up his arm, “And-and just a lot of other things-“ but the bandit had already turned and fled into the forest, “HEY!” The turtle shouts, “No, you're under arrest! That means stop running!” the giant runs after him, before calling, ”Mikey make sure the Prince is ok.”
“Don’t just lea-“ There’s a rustling to Leo’s right that makes him shriek out in surprise before, what could only be described as, another turtle slightly younger than himself pokes his head out to the bushes, “Don’t worry your highness! I’m a fan! Me and Raph are here to rescue you!” before climbing out of the bushes, revealing his dirty mud-covered body and old patchwork orange clothes.
Leo shrieks again.
This time for different reasons.
“No don’t you dare touch me! You’re filthy and you smell like a bird-“ There's another crashing sound, the thief almost crashes into Leo (who gave out his, what felt like, hundredth shriek and leapt out of the way.) The Thief hits the mushroom tree before falling into a crouch position. When he drags his hand across his face, Leo could see blood stain his sleeve.
The one who had called himself Raph stepped out of the forest, cracking his neck from side to side. “I’m sorry I hit you. I don’t want to fight some kid,” he starts, “If you turn yourself in maybe they’ll go easy on you-“
The Thief visibly grips his staff tighter, he reaches into his pocket and tosses a small brown bundle in the air that he smacks with his staff in Raph’s face which explodes into red dust. The bounty hunter cries out as he stumbled back, scrubbing at his face with his forearm before the Thief was on him jumping up and planting his feet hard against him like he had before with the bandit. Raph, though blinded, twists away and brings his elbow up to knock the Thief hard in the head.
The impact makes the Thief hit the ground before Raph’s foot found its place on his arm that held the hooked staff. The Thief squirmed trying to free him arm, “I’m trying to help you here. I was trained by the greatest hero of the Hidden-“
The hooked staff in the Thief’s trapped hand suddenly flashes and shrinks into the handle, with a limited room the Thief manages to toss it his other hand where it reforms and he swings hard, knocking Raph in the face.  The Thief rocks back to his feet. His closed stance shifting to a wide one as he swings his staff around, Raph’s arms came up and crossed over his face as red energy covers him again flaring under the hits as the Thief spins around and rains a few smacks on his sides before swinging his leg up with a side kick to the stomach. Blindly, Raph swings his arm around and knocks him hard in the head.
The Thief flew back hard against a mushroom tree, his hood fallen back to reveal a dark jade green complexion wrapped in a purple bandana, blood running from where his nose would be as he snarled angrily at the Bounty Hunter before jumping at him again.
The turtle that had been called Mikey let out a small whine, “Raph, the Prince won't let me untie him because he thinks I smell.”
Raph had somehow pinned the Thief around his chest, but judging by the strained look on his face he wasn’t going to keep it for long as the two struggle around. ”Don’t distract me, I'm working,” before pausing “And when was the last time you had a bath that wasn’t just you standing in the rain?”
Mikey opened his mouth to respond before lifting his arm and smelling his armpit, judging by the grimace on his face he had just answered his own question. Leo squirmed away from the filthy turtle, in fact he was so determined to get away from the filthy turtle that he didn’t see the Thief slam his head back against Raph’s face, forcing the bounty hunter to drop him and the two opposite turtles collapsing against the other.
Then.
A breath.
The one known as Raph ran forward with his hand held out probably to pull the Thief off him, but as he took a step closer a small wave pulsed from him. Like a gust of wind, ceasing the chaos and shouting and bringing silence. An invisible force catches him by the front of the chest and pulls him upward into the air, causing him to cry out in panic. He looks around and sees the same thing happening to those around them. Even the scattered leaves and stones are caught in the air as though reality in that moment had taken a break. Each of them caught in some sort of invisible suspension.  A heat started at the back of Leo’s eyes and burned forward like an inferno. He squeezes his eyes shut in order to try and stop it but his eyelids are forced open, revealing golden eyes with white flecks radiating from his eyes as the world suddenly turned white. He lashes his arms and legs out around him stupidly to try and grab something when he notices a person standing in front of him, outlined in a green flame with yellow eyes staring right at him, though there aren’t any real characteristics, Leo can tell it’s a human of sorts with a large pompadour. It reaches up to touch him but he can't’ help but flinch away, whether out of fear the fire would burn him or the stranger itself he doesn’t know. But then the figure tilts his head to the side as though saying ‘I understand’.
Before Leo could say anything, he’s not even sure he could in this state, the figure suddenly twists into itself and takes the shape of a five-petal lotus flower before burning away. Then he hears a man's voice behind him, as though something is whispering to him
“Come find me.”
As quick as it all starts, it ends. Leo hits the ground hard and gasps loudly, rubbing at his tear-filled eyes as he looks around him. Too shocked to yell, but he can tell he’s not the only one confused. Raph had already pulled himself up next to Mikey to check on him, who’s now rubbing ineffectively at  eyes streaming with tears. The Thief is several steps away, as though eh had thrown himself as far them as possible, and is checking his trembling hands as though making sure they weren’t about to explode on him. But after a few glances at each other, as though reassuring themselves they had all experienced the same thing. They had one question for each other:
“Who are you?”

First and foremost, love your blog 😘 If it's okay, how would the boys react to their s/o being overly emotional/possibly hormonal? Maybe it was just a bad day, maybe that time of the month. Or both 😩😢
Thank you!!! Sorry it's taken so long to get to this, it's actually second in line but I'm still getting legit salty at Tumblr for eating the first in line....anyway! The soft that is about to come your way istg 🥺💖 I try to be inclusive here so the s/o will have they/them pronouns, interpret that however you like 💖 🏳️‍🌈 (they really need more pride flag emojis)
Leo wasn't sure what was happening as a whole, but he knew that something was going on. Several passive texts among other things had stated as much. So, in hopes that it would make them feel better, he drew a bath, making sure the bubbles scents weren't too overwhelming leaf they trigger a headache. That was the last thing they needed right now. He figured, a nice hot bath, some soothing music, candles in their favorite, he chuckled to himself, 'flavor', as they liked to call it. Once it was all set, he actually went to the greenhouse to toss some recent blooms from his chamomile tea plants in. They weren't rose petals, he knew, but hopefully they would help sooth them. When they got to the lair, he greeted them with a soft but lingering kiss to the crown of their head. "I know today's been rough for you-"
"No it's fine I-"
"So, I set something up for you. I'd offer to cook something for you but you know how well that will go, so, what would you like? I'll order it." He smiled down at them as he led them to the waiting bath. He didn't miss the shake of their shoulders, or their sniffle as the dam began to break. "You know I'm here for you, to be an ear, a shoulder, anything you need...so don't be afraid to talk to me about it when you're ready, okay?" He asked, giving their shoulders a gentle squeeze only to have them throw themselves at his chest, already crying. He smiled wanely down at them and held them close, resting his cheek on their head and rubbing their back as they cried. "Do you want me to just stay with you?" He offered quietly. They nodded against his chest, and so he did. He stayed and held them close until they cried themselves out. Leo stayed and spoke soothing words to them as they relaxed in the tub, his hand lazily swirling the surface of the water. He stayed and bathed them, massaging their shoulders as he noted the distinct tension. He stayed and helped dry and dress them, only to carry them off to bed. He tucked them in, sliding right into the bed alongside them, and held them close. For now, they would just rest here. He could ask Donnie or Mikey to get them something to eat when they got hungry. But for now, this is all that they needed.
Raph was honestly a bit frustrated. He'd done everything he normally did when they were in a funk, but it just seemed to get worse by the damn day! He couldn't figure out how to help on this one! There was no one to scare off, there was nothing that needed a firm hand and some elbow grease, it wasn't one of his brothers being stupid, and he knew he hadn't done it because they would have told him so by now! Right?! They always did before! He took a deep breath and sat down on his bench press, cupping his head in his hands as he thought. He didn't realize it, but they'd gotten off of work early and had headed straight over, which left them watching him as he mulled it over and over in his head. "Raph?" They called quietly, instantly drawing him from his thoughts as his head shot up.
"Hey sweets, how was your day?" He asked, holding out a hand to invite them over. They shuffled over and sat down on his lap, laying their head against his chest.
"Shitty..." They mumbled. Raph sighed quietly, cradling the side of their head to pull them closer so he could kiss the opposite temple.
"I'm sorry...anything I can do to make ya feel better?" He asked. He never asked. He always just, had something that did. Something always made them feel better, but this slump, he hadn't been able to break it like usual for them.
"I'm hungry...but I don't feel like eating...can you just, pet my head and hold me for a while?" They asked quietly, as if he might actually refuse.
"I'll tell Mikey to make your favorite an then we can go lay down, alright?" He offered, getting up with them and taking their hand. After he got a nod, he led them to Mikey's room to ask him for a favor before he took them to his room. They didn't bother with blankets, but Raph pulled one up over them anyway. Once they were settled, nice and close together, he began stroking his hand through their hair, churring far more quietly then he ever did in an attempt to lull them to sleep, knowing they could probably use it.
Donnie had been busting his ass all week. For once he was going to have a completely free weekend for them and himself. What he didn't realize was that his business had only made what had been a terrible week already, worse. So, when they didn't come around like they usually did, he grew concerned. He informed his brothers he would be gone for a while before he went topside to get to their apartment. He tapped on their window once he was there. No answer. He frowned thoughtfully, pulling out a small knife. Normally he would never need to use such a simple tool directly like this, but, desperate times. He slid the blade between the windows overlap to unlatch the lock before he opened the window and slipped inside. He called their name. No answer. He looked around, they weren't in the livingroom. The kitchen was a bit worse for ware, but empty. The bathroom door was open, unoccupied, so that left their bedroom. He knocked gently on the door before entering. All the lights were off, their phone wasn't even plugged in, the curtains were drawn shut and the windows were covered with blankets. It was as if they wanted to be swallowed by darkness. He called their name softly as he approached their bed. With his goggles he could see their movement in the dark. "Hey...what's going on? Something happen?" He asked. They seemed to curl in on themselves more. "Did you want to talk to me about it...or did you want to be alone-?"
The words had barely left his mouth when they sobbed a 'no.' Donnie didn't hesitate to pull them, blankets and all, into his lap to hold them close.
"Shhhh, it's okay, I've got you. You're safe, I'm here." He soothed, rocking them gently as he held them. "I'm yours all weekend, anything you need, I'm here." He assured peppering the top of their head with kisses all the while.
Too overwhelmed by emotion to explain, they continued to cry in his lap, arms wrapped tightly around themselves as they tried not to fall apart completely. Of course, if they did, Donnie would be there to put the pieces back together with a gentleness even his own inventions didn't know. He wouldn't leave their side until they felt better.
Mikey was antsy. For the past few days, he could tell they were sinking into another episode. How to stop it though!? He'd made sure to be there to talk to them any time he could. He tried not to get too physical since sometimes they just didn't want to be touched. He was walking on eggshells and he wouldn't complain about it because he knew they were slowly crossing a trail of shattered glass. It would only get worse before it got better. That was, until the day they didn't come to the lair. He knew he shouldn't worry, maybe they just wanted alone time. But then, when they were like this, being alone was the worst thing. He found himself charging out of the lair at dusk and nearly busting through their apartment window before he thought better of that. He knocked urgently. With a click, the window unlocked and slid open. "Mikey?"
They were barely able to register him even being there before he was in their apartment, scooping them up and hugging them tight, murmuring a string of apologies into their hair. "I know you get touched out sometimes when you're like this but when you didn't come I got worried and, and-" he didn't even realize he was crying until they started to soothe him, shushing him and wiping the tears from his cheeks.
"It's okay, I'm fine, I'm safe, I'm right here." They assured softly. Mikey felt even worse for making them feel bad about worrying about them, and he knew they would.
"I just wanna help. How can I help?" He asked, holding them a little tighter. Believe it or not, just knowing that he cared that much, that he'd shed tears for them because he cared so much, they felt a little better already.
"Just...stay...watch a movie with me?" They asked, looking up at him. He nodded, willing to do anything, and it wasn't like the task was difficult anyway.
"Of course, whadya wanna watch?"

Super pumped for your future Donnie and Leo stories! Can you give us any sneak peaks? 👀 Just a crumb please!
A crumb, is it? ;D
Venture, ye, into the unknown, the hidden, the secret...the forbidden...

“Say I believe you,” Mei offered. “This means I cannot go home, that I must abandon my life and everything in it. What am I to do then?” Hesitant, she glanced down, finishing, “What am I to do now?”
At once, Donnie was caught between sympathy and distraction. His heart went out to her — but he had a hard time focusing on that with her scent in his nose.
This close, he could smell her clearly. Every time the wind kicked up, tossing her hair across her face, another shot of it hit him. And, to be blunt, she smelled fantastic.
But Mei was still in distress, and that overrode whatever Donnie’s instincts were trying to make him do. He reached out to touch her — she jolted, giving his hand a wary look. For a second he almost withdrew, but he pushed through and settled his hand on her shoulder, thinking she needed to feel something solid right then. She watched his hand for a moment then turned her gaze back to him, tense and borderline afraid.
You have nothing to fear from me, he thought. She almost seemed to hear him, her form relaxing just a little.
At that moment, looking down at her, he wanted to kiss her. Tamping down that impulse, he replied, “I can’t tell you what to do with your life, but I can offer you safety. My brothers and I, we have a home, and it’s safe and well-protected. You’re welcome to join us.”
When she remained hesitant, he went on gently, “We want to help you, Mei… I want to help you,” he corrected. “I’ll never betray you or hurt you. I promise.”
She was stuck between believing him and protecting herself, he could see. She looked like she wanted to believe him so badly, but she’d only ever depended on herself. Her entire world had been upended in the last few days, after all; it was crazy to think she’d be capable of trusting anyone so quickly.
And then, as she gazed at him, probably looking for some irrefutable proof of his intentions, she commented, “Green...your eyes are green. I had not noticed.”
Weirdly, that comment gave him a little thrill. Technically he didn’t need his glasses anyway (they’d only ever been useful in magnifying what he was looking it, which had been handy as a kid when he had no microscopes to use — these days it was just a habit to have them on), so he pulled them off to let her get a deeper look, dropping them somewhere to his left. He just couldn’t figure out if he was doing it because he wanted her to trust him...or because he wanted her to see him.
Kiss her, a little voice said. And, god, he wanted to. He brought his hands to her neck, brushing his thumbs over her cheeks. She stiffened but allowed the touch. She was starting to trust him, and it made his stomach do a little flip, made his heart kick up speed.
“Mei...” he started, unsure what he wanted to say. After a hesitant second, he just said what was on his mind — without realizing how he kept leaning in closer and closer. “I know this has to be hard for you...finding out the guy who raised you has been lying to you all along...and I don’t expect you to just trust me. But right now, I promise you, all I want is for you to feel safe.”
Her eyes went watery, emotion welling in them, and her hands lifted to his wrists. She didn’t push him away, though; she just held on, like she needed a lifeline. “You?” she checked, voice quiet but thick. “I held a sword at your neck hours ago.”
Offering her a weak shrug, he retorted, “Not the first time that’s happened, won’t be the last.”
It pulled a laugh from her, the sound making him smile. And she looked surprised, like she hadn’t laughed in years and had forgotten she could. It made him want to make her laugh even more.
Kiss her, that voice said again. This time he was too drawn in to disobey; slow but sure, he lowered his head. They were so close that when the wind blew, her hair brushed his face, the ends stinging his cheeks.

Sure enough, Leo lifted his chin, a little smirk blooming. “Good to know you realize you couldn’t beat me.”
Gaze hard, Mei replied, “I recognize your skill. I admit to nothing more.”
“So you don’t think I’m better than you?” he checked.
Quick as a bullet, she struck; her hand chopped into his side, and Leo had been so relaxed he couldn’t react in time. She wasn’t done there, however. With sharp motions, she disoriented him with a flurry of strikes until she flipped over his shell, arm hooking under his, and tossed him. Leo hit the ground with a harsh exhalation, rolling twice from the force of the throw.
As he recovered she quipped, “No, I do not.”
Mikey chortled and Raph gave a sharp hoot, saying to Leo, “You got served, bro.”
Rather than be irritated, however, Leo got up smirking. To her, he returned, “Tough talk for someone I defeated.”
“You never defeated me,” she countered. Head inclined towards Donatello, she said, “He did.”
To be honest, Donnie wasn’t proud of that. Tasing her had been hard.
“I would have, if you hadn’t diverted your attention,” Leo shot back.
“Would have, could have,” she commented, “but did not.”
“You want to settle this?” he offered. Arms wide, he declared, “I’m down for a rematch.” Mei just looked him up and down, measuring. At length Leo said, “Unless you’re scared, of course...”
She gave a humorless laugh, looking away and shaking her head. “Scared?” she echoed. Doubtful, she arched a brow at him, saying, “Of you?”
Shrugging, he replied, “Prove me wrong.”
She made no move to advance, however, and a part of Donnie was grateful for that.
Speaking up, Donnie interjected, “She doesn’t have to prove herself, Leo.” To Mei, he added, “You don’t have to prove anything.”
But when she met his gaze, her eyes suggested she did. Leo had pricked her ego, and she felt the need to respond to the challenge. He shouldn’t be surprised; a woman of her skill would have been utterly confident — right up until meeting another of equal skill.
A part of her would always be seeking to be the best, and for Mei that meant defeating Leonardo...but that also meant getting closer to him, and that was something Donnie didn’t want.
Bringing her attention back to him, Leo quipped, “Ah, I get it. You’re scared you might actually have fun.”
And she smiled, lips splitting in a wide grin — and then she all but cringed, fighting to smother it back down. Donnie was hit with envy at the sight; he wanted to be the one to wring smiles out of her. His only consolation was the obvious fact that she didn’t want to be smiling.
She hadn’t had a problem with the little smile she’d given him, after all.
“Whoa, hold on, was that a grin?” Leo checked, playing up a measure of disbelief.
Mei scowled.
“I didn’t know you could grin,” he quipped. “You should do it more often; it looks good on you.”
“Are you flirting with me?” she demanded, her voice suggesting she disdained the very idea.
“No, of course not,” he denied. “I wouldn’t expect a woman with such a cold heart to even recognize a flirt if she heard one.”
If that was supposed to amuse her, it had the opposite effect: she glared, snapping, “Perhaps it would be easier for such a woman if anyone had ever flirted with her before. They have not.”
Donnie heard something very specific in that last statement, and when he glanced at Leo, he saw that his brother had, too.
Longing.

Half Court Havoc
(I imagine this right in between the time right after Snow Day but right before Insane In Big Mama’s Train, and this is how I see their relationship in it's earliest as a budding couple in Fanfic version. :3
Mentioned OC: Dani is an OC belonging to my friend @mermaidsoul8, she helped me greatly in her input on this!! Kudos goes to her as well!
PS: This is my LONGEST fanfic so I hope you all enjoy it!)
It was just after 5 PM as Tati finally came through the Lair entrance and dropped off her bag. “Hey, guys! Sorry I was a little late, got held up at school with April, Sunita, and Dani..” Tati said as she passed by Splinter; sitting in his chair. “Uh hey, Sensei.. where’s Leo?” Then Some crashing can be heard, “I recommend looking in the kitchen, he’s been in there all day.” Splinter said rather nonchalantly. “Uhh... thanks, Sensei.,” Tati said as she walked ahead.
Leo was stumbling about to put the pots away after he had tipped them over. “Ok just keep it together Leon.. just turtle up and just ask her.” He said to himself, of course in his practice mode; Leo had knocked over the pots by his clumsy nature. Then a lightbulb appears over his head! “That’s it! I’ll just play it smooth like Lou Jitsu was before we found out he’s our dad..” He decided and with a proud smirk on his face.. which quickly changed to a surprised shock upon hearing...
“Leo? What was that?” Tati asked as she stood by the entrance to the kitchen. Flip-flopping around to face her, Leo tried leaning smoothly on the counter and showcased his trademarked grin. “Just uh... chilling you know?”To which, Tati just raised a brow and lightly smirked back. “You’re sure making a lot of noise for just “Chilling?” Leon?” She giggled, helping away to put away one last pot. “So uh, Tati? I was thinking you wanna go shoot some hoops with me... I mean if you want to?” He asked while leaning on his left elbow, even though on the inside he was shaking.
Tati turned and looked up with a smile. “Sure Leo! Should we ask your bros to play too?” She suggested but Leo shot up. “Oh uh I already checked in! They’re all.. busy! You know.. with their.. ninja stuff too?” He grinned nervously from the raised brow on Tati, “Well alright then, just let me get my phone.” She shrugged but smiled. She turned around to walk out and leaving Leo to do a dab and cheered in secret.
It turns out that the three brothers were already walking in from off-screen and were all smirking, they had heard the whole thing. “You know, a girl like it better if you just ask them straight up Leo,” Donnie said and chuckled as Mikey just grinned. “Aw come on!” Leo slumped his arms down.
“You didn’t have to lie, Leo, just go and have fun.” Raph smiled and Leo smiled as he took off to meet with her... with Donnie adding with: “How much you wanna bet he screws up?” Mikey rose his hand and Raph slapped his face.
The two already made it to the surface as Leo showed off his spinning ball trick with Tati smirking... with some unsavory eyes watching them... it was the recently mutated Ghostbear! “This Tortuga has a Novia now? And on a date? I shall ruin it like he and the other Tortugas ruined my pro-wrestling career!” He cackled and proceeded to follow...  Upon arriving at a half-court, Leo spun the ball and tossed it to Tati and grinned. “Let’s see what you got,” Tati smirked and held it. “Oh, I’ll bring it, Blue Bolt...” Tati started the game.. with her practically running with the ball without bouncing it! Though Leo caught up to her. “I’m not a rules guy but you’re supposed to bounce it as you run.” He smirked and Tati held it away above her head with her own smug grin. “Why can’t we?” She teased and stopped when Leo stepped in front of her. “Gotcha! The two of them ended up laughing as Leo tried to reach for the ball and knocked it into the air! Tati grinned as she used the magic from her hand and controlled the air to carry the ball right into the basket!”
”Ok that was not fair.” Leo teased and Tati just teased back. “Hey, you did say to bring it, and you were up against a fairy that in tune with air.” They both end up laughing... and they just realized how close they were standing still and blushed.
”So if you wanna do this more often..” Leo started to ask smooth... that was until a loud landing crash happened in front of them. Ghostbear decided to take action this time and cackled loudly. “Peekaboo Tortuga!!” He called out and cackled. “GHOSTBEAR?!” Leo cried in horror, This was the LAST thing he wanted. Leo took out his Odachi sword and tried charging at him... completely forgetting about his new ability to go Ghost!! Falling right through the mutant!
“I’ll ruin this date like you ruin my pro wrestling career!!” He cried out evilly and tried to swipe at Tati, jumping back, she tried unleashing her gale-force attacks and it did knock Ghostbear to the brick wall. Though he roared and Leo took the distracted opportunity to hit Ghostbear from the side.
Now was the time for a retreat! The noise brings people and people mean more risk in innocent civilian damage. Rushing down the alleyway they came from the first time with a raging mutant polar bear in pursuit.
Leo quickly found cover in the separate alleyway as Ghostbear was busy searching for the two and tore open any garbage bins, Leo covered his face before he turned to face Tati. “I’m so sorry about this, I tried being smooth and confident to ask you out and yet this happens.. probably messed up so bad now..” He sighed but Tati, with a pink shade to her cheeks, grabbed his hand.
“Leo, no matter what and despite this evil, crazy, and might I add very petty mutant polar bear... I would’ve and always will say yes; I would love to go out with you.” She confessed and Leo squeezes his hand back in hers. “Really?! I-yes!” He said (rather) too loudly and Ghostbear turned to that direction and poked his furry head in.“Peekaboo Tortuga!!”
Before Ghostbear gets a swipe in, Leo and Tati quickly jump out of the way and in midair, Tati said quickly “Uh maybe not the time and place for a romantic confession!” “Agreed!!” Leo concurred fast as Tati had caught him and used her wind magic to help him land behind another alleyway. Tati and Leo poked their heads out to observe the seeking mutant bear.
“Señor Fuzzy-Jerk won’t leave us alone unless he’s stopped! We gotta do something..” Tati said.. then gave a knowing look to Leo. “Well, Leo?” In her eyes, she fully believes in him.“You.. really think I can?” Leo said looking surprised. “Leo, I know you can.” She squeezed his arm and now they both looked determined to the approaching Ghostbear. Leo lifted the basketball and he whispered his quickly made plan.
Separating as Tati ran out first. “Hey! You!! Over here Mal Oso!!” She cried and with an evil laugh, Ghostbear foolishly chased after her. Supposedly cornering her by a gate in the alleyway and Ghostbear cackled. “Looks like the Tortuga is gonna have to find another novia.. because I have ruined his date!!” He cackled so evilly.. but didn’t exactly noticed the smirk on Tati’s face.
“Yeah, I don’t think you have you moron.” She then pressed her cloaking badge and revealed her fairy wings and green eyes. “You really should watch out behind you!” She raised her hand to catch the basketball and used her air power to launch it into Ghostbear’s face hard and very quickly, in Ghostbear’s surprise and his guard was hit backward.. into Leo’s already opened portal!
Leo opened two more: one above the other to gain speed and finally a third opened to lead into the Hudson River and had shot Ghostbear through. “TORTUGA!!!” He cried before hitting the waters and he burst out soon after to catch on some driftwood.. exhausted and frustrated that he failed again.
Back with the couple, Tati and Leo high fives each other and laughed about it. “Leo! That was so good! You knew thy enemy and used it to our advantage!! You're amazing!!” She threw her arms around his shoulders and Leo enjoyed this feeling.
“And you’re amazing too Tati! Everything! Your wind powers and everything about you?” Leo complimented back and the two blushed and were silent for a quick moment.
“Let’s call this a pre-date and finish this night off with Pizza?” Tati suggested, “Pizza! Run Of The Mill?” He held his arm out and Tati gladly took it. “Run Of The Mill.” She giggled and the two finally went off towards the Yokai Pizza place... feelings confirmed but willing to take it slow.

Tumblr media
A/N: uwu these are meant to be platonic. i feel like the bros are really touchy feely with people they grow especially close to and that wouldn’t mind reciprocating it
Mikey:
- he was probably the most adorable being in known existence.
- it was only right that he was best at cuddle time too.
- together you’re both the pipsqueaks of the group at around the same size and yet, he usually tucks his head under your chin. curling up with you whenever you slept over. you end up in his bed the most so you didn’t have to battle the long limbs of one of his brothers. (occasionally, you all would sleep together if they pulled out enough quilts to create a mix shift mattress in the lair’s den.)
- he wraps his arms around you and tries to be as close as possible. there can’t be a breath of space between you.
- he’s feels so warm and cozy, and likes to whisper-talk to you when neither of you can fall asleep just yet. too hopped up on energy that you’re sure he is projecting enough of for the two of you. you sure as hell didn’t have this much before getting into bed.
- he tells the best stories and knows how to get you laughing if you’ve had a bad day or start to linger on dark thoughts.
- in the morning, you can’t tell where when of you begins and the other ends. not that you care. mornings aren’t for you.
- still, he’s sweet on you and about how you feel when you eventually wake up.
-you’re grumpy and grumbley, and don’t want to talk until you can bring yourself to open your eyes. which is hard. you’d rather roll over and sleep five more hours.
- he calls you cute and talks about what he wants to do later, nuzzling at you a few times. he sneaks in a few pecks at your cheek and forehead.
- when you do open your eyes, you get a face full of him and his smile that makes up for not having sunshine in the lair.
- you rub noses and giggle together.
- god, did i mention he’s cute?
- cute’s a great thing to wake up to.
Donatello:
- he’s the big spoon.
- every one of the older turtles is the big spoon. end of story.
- when you sleep with don, it’s probably because you two are the resident night owls and it’s one of those evenings where you stay in his lab after hours to talk. unable to wind down like the others.
- they swear you guys must be nocturnal or something. your internal clocks are so fucked up.
- so, feeling sleepless, you stay awake with don until your eye lids feel heavy and you drag him to his room.
- you throw yourself on first and he crawls in after.
- you sleep back to back because it’s a little awkward for both of you to stare at your friend’s face until you fall asleep. it’s not hard to drift off as soon as you get comfortable- you’re both always way more tired than you think or say.
- by the middle of the night, you manage to arrive in a position where he’s hugging you close from behind, a leg hooked over your hip.
- typically, he wakes up first to realize how he’s ended up embracing you.
- he doesn’t move until after he gives you another squeeze and takes a deep breath of your scent, nuzzling his face into your hair. he and his brothers never get to see humans outside of you and april, and, deep down, he loves the both of you for giving them a chance and looking beyond their appearance.
- he also loves being so close to you.
- he...he’s got this hardwired thing about physical contact. he didn’t know how to ask for it or react to it, but he was learning. just like emotions, which he still had a hard time with.
- did that mean he wanted you to see him all koala’d up to you? no. he gets up and acts like he’s been up for hours, waiting for you to come to. (mikey tells you when he’s lying, but there are times when donnie genuinely can’t sleep a wink and just ends up laying beside you all night. mind plagued by strings of unending thought.)
- when you wake up first, you’re usually holding him by the slim waist, pressing your face against his plastron. there’s probably some drool there and you wipe it off with your shirt.
- you can’t help staring at his relaxed, dreamless face for an undefined time, still groggy eyed, before you get up and wobble to breakfast. (mikey is the best cook ever; hands down. nothing will ever convince you otherwise)
- you leave don there until you’re done eating because you know he needs the extra sleep more than anyone else does.
Leo:
- so, you got stuck with him because you two can’t stop gossiping once you start.
- you fall asleep still chatting, your voices turning into mumbles until it levels out into silence.
- you originally went to bed laying side by side, staring at the ceiling as you spoke, but you end up with your limbs tangled and your head on his chest.
- you wake up a few times in the night because he murmurs in his sleep. unable to stop talking for even a second, apparently. but you don’t toss and turn like you would at home. his sleep laced voice is comforting
- you’re a heavy sleeper otherwise, and you don’t even notice when he ends up grabbing one of your hands. (sometimes in the middle of a night terror)
- he does in the morning though.
- and he can’t help brushing the back of your hand, and your knuckles. thinking about the very different animal humans were. your skin was so squishy and soft, and weird. different.
- he detaches from you and pokes you awake once he’s decided he wants breakfast.
- you complain and glare at him when you come around. he’s smirking like the imp he is and says something about your bedhead or morning voice. you call him a jackass for it but he tells you he was only joking. you’re not having this and you’re kicking when he hugs you, stoking your grumpiness like he knew it would.
- at the same token, you’re grinning because, even though he had his jerk moments - like don -, he was honest and meant what he said about the joking part.
- his arm is sore from the punch you give him as you both walk to the kitchen. chuckling at each other as you throw around your weight and some really bad jokes.
- but, if you were to wake before him, it would probably only be for a few moments. during which, you squeeze his hand and smile at the twitch in his brow.
Raph:
- the one time you slept with him was because cats.
- you normally didn’t because he was afraid the poky bits on his hide would hurt you, but then he found a whole box of kittens.
- all of you played with them through the night as you binge watched movies. you said you would take them to the shelter you volunteered at the next day and was going to sleep with mike, but raph was worried.
- he didn’t want to squish the kittens in his sleep - they had imprinted on him and didn’t want to leave his side.
- so, he slept on his back and you slept on his chest with the fluffy litter. petting the scraggly kits who could barely move because of how full their round little tums were after raph fed them. he also bathed them, and through every action, treated them with the most gentle hand.
- motherly, almost.
- once he was out cold, he was a wood chipper. but you snored too - from all the poor nights of sleep up before then.
- one of his beefy arms came around to lay on your side and you feel like Timon from the lion king as you curl into it. little warm bodies cuddling up next to your stomach.
- raph rouses first and watches the kittens play on his chest. they gnaw at one of his massive fingers with milkteeth and you wake up when one kicks you in the jaw with squishy toes.
- raph chuckles at their antics and you, being half awake, don’t give a shit about much anything. certainly not that kick.
- once you’re awake enough, - after playing with the kittens a bit and mumbling to raph as he did most of the talking - you crawl off of the turtle and watch him count the kittens as he placed them all one by one back in the box.
- you both go eat breakfast and he waddles back to his room after to feed his kittens.
- you change out of the set of sleep clothes you leave there for overnight visits and into something suitable for the outside.
- it’s a good thing you’re not allergic to cats when you see all the fur stuck on those pajamas.
bonus:
mikey had to figure out how to wash clothes when you started leaving your pajamas at the lair.
he didn’t mind though, he liked cleaning (his room was mostly clean but all his art supplies made it look differently to the untrained eye). but uh, never leave your underwear. you had a habit of doing that at april’s house but don’t do it to those poor, pure boys. they were a male only household.
he found your bra and undies once when he collected your pjs that were behind the bathroom door in a heap, and all the turtles couldn’t look at you in the face properly the next time you went over.
you didn’t even know turtles could blush.
and they didn’t know humans could get that red after they told you about the underwear.

“Did you just kiss me?”
“So, you think you’ll go through with it tonight?” April asked you with a smirk and an eyebrow wiggle. The two of you were heading up the elevator of the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square. It was already past nightfall on New Years Eve and you were both lugging around big boxes of various fireworks to the roof, where you would later meet up with the turtles.
A warm, pink glow flashed across your cheeks as your eyes glanced to hers and then straight down to the floor. Letting out a little wry chuckle, you stammered, “I-I don’t know. I mean, all you guys are gonna be there and--” She cut you off,
“Girl,” she let out a groan, “So what? It’s New Years!” She straightened her glasses with her cheek while shrugging her shoulders. Her hands were placed in their usual spot, within the pockets of her bright yellow-green sweatshirt. “We’re literally gonna have the best seats in the city. It’ll be perfect!”
“What if he… rejects me?” You say in a joking way to help keep the mood light, but deep down that question has been burning inside you for so long.
April let out a hearty laugh, her shoulders twitching rhythmically, “Don’t be crazy. He would never.”
“But what if—” you began.
“But nothing, hon.” She cut you off, smiling, “Trust me. I know him. I know all of them. We’ve been friends since I was, what, eleven? You gon’ be just fine.”
April has known the boys for a much longer time than you have. You’ve only been friends with them for maybe a little over half a year? Maybe April did know what she was talking about… you hope.
The elevator finally came to a halt at the top floor and the both of you carried the boxes of fireworks out and down the hall to a fire escape exit. There, the two of you carefully climbed the rest of the way to the rooftop.
The crisp air hit you right away, blowing your hair out of your face and back behind you. And the lights. Wow. You never, ever seemed to get tired of this view. It was breathtaking, to say the least. An image could never entirely capture the beauty of that skyline. Billions of shimmering lights dazzled beneath you to miles ahead of you. But this, Times Square, there’s just nothing like it. Millions of people were crowded together at the base of the hotel, all clamoring, laughing, and continuously waiting for the big ball to eventually drop, marking a new year.
“Ayyeee, there’s my favorite girls!” You heard that familiar voice behind you. Turning around, you recognized the blue-clad turtle with the shit-eating grin, followed by his three brothers who were leaping up from the side of the building. Of course, Leo’s presence made a slight pink glow across your cheeks. Out of the corner of your eye you see April giving a smirk in your direction as she eyed the two of you. Leo was oblivious to the expressions between the both of you as you shot her a warning glance. The turtle’s mask tails lightly flapped in the wind as he made his way over to the boxes of fireworks.
“Ho-ho yeah! Let’s see what we got!” He rummaged through the boxes with Mikey when you heard Raph set down a large watercooler on the other side of you. He tossed you a soda in a koozie, which you gratefully accepted, and then one to April and another to Donnie. The purple-clad, who was tinkering on his bo staff to make sure the flame thrower worked, as well as the fire extinguisher, caught the soda without even glancing away from his weapon.
“How you been, Shorty?” said Raph, shutting the cooler after getting himself a soda, then using the cooler as a seat.
You answered, completely used to that nickname he had coined for you, “Great! Bit chilly, but what else is new, y’know?” You shrugged your shoulders in your big wool and polyester coat. The weather was even harsher on the roof of this building. “Still job hunting, so that’s a drag.”
“Ah, well,” said the snapping turtle, raising his soda can in your direction, “To a new year and a new job.” And everyone chimed in to repeat the phrase, wishing you good luck. An appreciative smile took a new expression upon your face as you raised your drink as well.
A short time passed and it was about seven minutes to midnight; you were mingling with Donnie and Raph about random topics. Mikey has been deejaying in the middle of the roof. You guys were sitting on the edge of the building, overlooking the crowd. You three were currently discussing where you would each like to travel and why.  You could hear April howling with laughter from somewhere behind you, probably at some wise-crack Mikey or Leo made.
You kept a close eye on your phone to check the time. The closer it got to midnight, the more nerves scattered themselves inside your body. You were really trying hard to listen to Donnie explain how the pyramids of Egypt would be such a fascinating travel location because of all the myths saying that aliens created them or something, but your mind was just mostly focusing on a completely other topic. Leo.
While subconsciously nodding along to Donnie’s story, now off on some tangent about wheatfields, you were straining your ears just to hear Leo’s voice, or even his laugh, behind you. It was such an attracting sound. So sweet. Like honey attracts bees. And you, of course, were the bee. Gah, were you even going to have the balls to pull this off tonight? Every feeling inside of you was either rooting for it to happen or for you to back out and play it safe. Now normally, you weren’t a risk taker, but this was gonna be different. When that ball dropped, you were gonna change that part of yourself. This is the time to try new things, after all. Ugh. Why does this have to be so difficult?
“Yo, y/n!” Leo’s voice chimed, calling to you, “Hey, come look at what we’ve set up. D, bring your torch!”
You got up, followed by Donnie, and walked up to the other three who were gesturing to the fireworks they had laid out in such a specific pattern. Raph stayed behind to alert the rest of you when the time comes. Four minutes to midnight. The crowd’s cheering grew slightly louder as the time passed.
“Alrighty, so you got your standard Peony shells,” Mikey pointed at a few rather large firework casings, “Some Chrysanthemums, a few Willows, a Diadem, which I’m more than pumped more, your Palms, Horse Tails, and Rings. And as for the smaller stuff, we got Roman Candles, Fountains, Firecrackers, Sparklers, Smoke Bombs, and some Ground Spinners. So, I’ll definitely be the first to say, you girls hit the jackpot!”
Directly after April first bumped you proudly, Leo nudged your shoulder in an approving way. You smiled up at him, praying that he couldn’t see the blush on your face. He smiled back and you couldn’t tell if he gave you a wink or not, the moment passed too quick. Okay, two minutes to midnight.
“Aye, the ball’s about to drop.” Raph called to us, “C’mon, let’s go!”
You all made your way back over to the edge of the building, hanging your legs over the edge. You sat by Mikey, who plopped himself in between you and April, and Leo made his seat on the other side of you. Something in your heart did a tiny dance and you couldn’t help but smile. Not just about the fact that Leo was sitting next to you, but about the whole scene. Times Square, the crowd of millions of people beneath your feet, you literally dangling your feet off the edge of the rooftop of a towering hotel, your closest friends in the world by your side. Honestly, what could top this?
There it went, the chrome ball that everyone had their eyes on, slowly falling every second. The swarm of people below you started chanting, “SEVEN… SIX… FIVE… FOUR…”
You and the gang joined in, “THREE… TWO… ONE! HAPPY NEW YEAR!”
Loud cheers and screams echoed all around you. Mikey spun his flaming kusari-fundo around above his head in a celebratory twirl, making you laugh. You turned to your other side to finally do it. You were going to kiss Leo. This was it. Your body felt so light. A huge smile was across your face as you turned to face him. But before you could even act on anything, his hands were latched to your cheeks with his lips pressed against yours. Wait. He kissed you?! Immediately, Mikey said exactly what you were thinking,
“Omigosh!”
April laughed at Mikey’s reaction as you flooded out all noise around you. So, this is what it was like… kissing him. Wow. You couldn’t believe your senses. The only thing that made you pull away was a thundering BOOM that erupted above you. Once you realized it was only Donnie who had set off the first of the fireworks, you looked back to Leo who was smiling wildly at you.
You smiled back and then realization hit you a second time, “D-Did you just kiss me?”
His expression faltered a little bit. Was that disappointment in your voice? But he nodded back with a smaller smile. Your eyes lit up as another firework went off above the roof. Without warning, you practically threw yourself on him, kissing him again.
Behind you, Mikey turned to April, “Did you see—?”
April nodded in a smug fashion, “Yeah, she planned for it.”
“Obviously, he did, too,” said Raph, chuckling.
The rest of the night was spent with laughter and shimmering lights followed by booming sounds. Leo had his arm around you most of the time, when he wasn’t trying to do some reckless tricks over the fountain fireworks, of course. Mikey was trying out some moves with his kusari-fundo by trying to light multiple fireworks at once. Donnie was ready with the fire extinguisher application wired into his staff. Raph and April were having a Roman Candle fight and laughing when Leo got hit with one of the blasts. When you checked to see if he was alright, trying to stifle the laughter that was bubbling inside you, he gave you a reassuring wink and kissed you on the forehead before lighting a Roman Candle himself to chase Raph with. Was it always this easy? Why did you believe things had to be so complicated? He liked you back. After months of overthinking things, he actually liked you back. What a wonderful start to the year.

Note
i got u dude. mikey picking fights when he knows he wont win or mikey feeling like he isn't really contributing to the group (hope you feel better btw)
rottmntverse human au because that makes this even more fun :3c
((trigger warning for a brief homophobic slur, avoidable if you look for the paragraph becoming italics.))
In Mikey’s opinion, it doesn’t make sense. He reasons thatpeople should want to avoid startingfights with the biggest guy in the room, not actively try and do just that.
Raph isn’t the one who ever starts it. Donnie sometimesstarts things, mostly by just being his lovable prickly self, and occasionallyLeo blunders through a conversation badly enough someone has steam coming outof their ears about whatever dumb thing he’s said this time. Raph, though?
Raph doesn’t pick fights. Fights pick him.
It sucks, because Mikey knows that even though Raph is big,and a little awkward, and kind of intimidating if you don’t know him- Mikey’s oldest sibling would rather just get along with everyone. Wants to, even.
It’s probably because none of them fit the mold, the four ofthem. The only other person they hang out with is April. Mikey is fairlycertain half the reason people get pissed off at them is because they just.Don’t need anyone else.
Or maybe they’re just assholes, jostling and elbowing Raph inthe subway station they all have to share. Leo ditched school halfway throughthe day to go see Donnie at hisschool, which is the university halfway across the city. It’s just Mikey andRaph here today, waiting for the train, trying to wait out the snide remarks andcomments and rude as hell insinuations. No one is even noticing Mikey, sinceRaph made himself a barrier between Mikey and everyone else.
Mikey doesn’t even know what it is today. Why this ishappening at all. It’s Friday, theyall definitely have better stuff to do.
He’d had his earbuds in before this started, swaying to his private concert while he waited next to Raph, but he took them out the second he noticed shit starting to happen. Mikey is listening, and growingfrustrated, and hating every new minute they spend standing here. Raph says toignore them, they’ll lose interest eventually. (They never do.) They don’t haveto stoop to their level, says Donnie, like the hypocrite he is. (Donnie would fistfight older students in uni over scientific theory if he could.) They don’t wantto draw any more attention to themselves than they already do, says Leo, whenhe’s sobered from his bravado of keeping an air of lazily not caring. (Leo and his barest hints of mascara and meticulous eyeliner, Raph and his little sewing crafts in his backpack, Mikey and hisglittery binders he couldn’t resist getting and now regret having done so, for the eyes that stare and stare and stare at them all.)
Someone shoves Raph hard enough he stumbles backwards, knocking into Mikey and nearly toppling them both. Their train still isn’there. None of the adults waiting for it look like they’re going to step in. Everything about this sucks.
Mikey has to jump away to avoid Raph’s wrong footed retreat; his brother, though he’s at least a head taller than everyone here, keeping his clenched fistsat his sides as some jerk Mikey doesn’t know tries to physically push Raph intolashing out.
And Raph won’t,because he can’t, it wouldn’t matterthat he’d been goaded into it, everyone would blame him and wouldn’t ever lethim forget that he’d hit back. Onceit’s done, it won’t ever go away, and no one knows that better than Raph himself.
So his fists stay by his sides, and the split second they’reraised it’s to block a punch aimed at his chest. Raph’s expression is tight andangry, trapped like he is as the crowd of boys press closer, taking turnsshoving him, calling out names, laughing at his lack of reaction. You scared? Are you scared? You even got anythingdown there, or did ya get ‘em chopped off like your fag brother-?
The biggest kid, next to Raph, winds up to throw anotherpunch, and Mikey can already tell that it’s going to make contact with hisbrother’s face.
Raph doesn’t pick fights.
Sometimes, when he has to, though… Mikey does.
He’s half the size of everyone else, maybe smaller, but hisknuckles still impact against the asshole’s jaw and sends him reeling. Mikey shriekswordlessly and throws himself at the crowd of bullies, knowing he’s got theedge of surprise and nothing else. For a few seconds, he manages to hold hisown.
Then, someone with a lot more muscle mass than him socks himacross the face, then the stomach, and Mikey chokes on his own spit.
He breathlessly tries to keep going, but he’s thirteen andeveryone here is fifteen and older. Not to mention outnumber him almost a dozento one.
It’s a blur of pain for a minute there, fireworks of lightflashing behind his eyelids every time someone punches him. Fists and feet hittingwhatever they can of his skinny body. Then, something grabs him by the collar, and pulls him out of the fray with strength far greater than anyone else’s.
The guy who started it all swims in Mikey’s vision, rightbefore a big shape obscures it and picks him up with ease.
Mikey coughs on the blood of his swelling nose, and staresalong with everyone else as Raph holds their leader almost a foot off theground.
“Gonna say this once,”Raph growls out. “Piss off, or I throw you on the tracks.”
He drops the other kid, tossing him away a few extra feetfor good measure. The asshole lands poorly and has to be dragged to his feet byhis friends, wide eyes staring at Raph as he folds his arms and glares.
Their train finally arrives, coming up to the platform withthe usual shrill sound of its braking. What few other people that’d beenwitness to the whole fight stow their phones and get into the train cars, sensibly getting away.
Mikey and Raph reach for each other at the same time, andboard the train, too.
Raph’s bullies don’t follow.
“You gotta stop doin’ that, Mike,” Raph scolds anxiously, pressing another band-aid over a cut Mikey hadn’t noticed himself getting in thefight. “You don’t have to get caught up in that shit. I can take it. You’re gonna break yourhand one’a these days and then where’re you gonna be? You can’t do art if youcan’t use your hands.”
“Eh, I’d be fine. It’ll be a good time to try feet art,” Mikey says, sitting on their bathroom counter while Raph half-kneels, not even wincingas his banged up knee is taken care of. He’d almost ended up on the floorduring the fight, which could’ve had the whole thing go way worse for him. He’s lucky he got out of that with just a fewdark bruises and bloody scrapes, even if they’re turning nasty purple and redcolors against his dark skin.
Raph glares at him, mouth in a terse frown. Mikey pretendsnot to notice, and puts a cheerily colored band-aid on his brother’s cheek. It’sgot a fading bruise from a different fight still, now mottled with yellow, and Mikeyfeels a little lonely, being the only one in the room with bright littlepatches all over himself.
Raph doesn’t even try to move away from the band-aid as it’sapplied to his face. He just sighs long-sufferingly, like all of Mikey’s olderbrothers do sometimes, whenever he’s done something like this.
“You can’t keep pickin’ fights you won’t win,” Raph says, staring hard at Mikey’s bruised face. He looks so sad it makes Mikey sad, too. Whichwon’t do at all.
Mikey gently slaps his hands on either side of Raph’s face, and grins. “I only pick ‘em ‘cause I’m with you guys, and if I’m with you guys I’llalways win. Four against whatever, plus one when we got April. Sostop being a sadsack already and feel loved ‘cause I’m willing to punch stupidpeople in the face for you.”
Mikey’s smile is opening the split lip he’s got all overagain, but it’s worth it to see a hint of an echoing smile twitch on Raph’s face.
“Stupid,” Raph mumbles as he ducks away from Mikey’s hands, and Mikey doesn’t comment on the gloss his brother’s eyes have before he rubsat them. Mikey just hums and leans on Raph’s head with his elbows, idlythinking about changing the slivers of red wraps around his brother’s longdreads again. Maybe using a brighter red this time instead of a subdued maroon.
It might be something akin to waving a red flagin front a bull, but Mikey doesn’t mind playing bullfighter if it’s for hisbrothers.
if you’d spare some change to a writer who’s trying to build up finances after not getting paid for nearly three months, spec’s kofi tip jar would appreciate it,,

Beyond the Bay chapter 6: Mirror Images
“It’s happening again.”
Raphael was quick to Donatello’s side, glancing over the handheld panel as it started to flash and beep a long, jarring warning that didn't let up no matter how many buttons Donatello pressed. The noise was only becoming louder, making the other three brothers rush to cover their ears to hopefully spare their hearing from the pressure of the echoing alarm.
“We get it! Turn it off, Don!” Leonardo growled, but his voice was barely heard.
“Working on it!” Donatello said, and he was, yet still the device refused to listen. It started to spark and the top of it erupted in flames while Donatello just kept repeating, “No no no no no no no—“
Raphael had enough. He grabbed the device from Donatello and shoved it in his mouth, chewing up the hard metal and jolting wires before swallowing the painful mouthful.
“There. All quiet.” Raphael breathed a sigh of relief. “No more noise.”
Donatello blinked slowly. “It took me three months to make that…”
“And it took me three seconds to eat it, so clearly it needs to be stronger.” Raphael said, clearing his throat by pounding his chest.
A vein visibly twitched on Donatello as the younger turtle seethed; Leonardo could almost see steam coming out of the softshell’s ears! Donatello took a deep breath in, standing up a little straighter and closing his eyes before brushing past the situation quickly.
“Fine. That’s fine. Everything’s fine. I can just build another one.”
“Did you happen to see where the signal was before Raph got hungry?” Leonardo asked, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“I saw where the signals were.” At the confused looks he got, Donatello explained further. “It was picking up five different signals, which we could have followed individually if someone hadn’t have eaten the tech!”
Raphael burped. “Oops.”
“You know what? No, it’s fine.” Leonardo shook his head, “We have a few hours before daybreak, we can go check it out and find our world hoppers. Suit up.”
“You’re lucky I have photographic memory…” Donatello grumbled.
At Leonardo’s word, everyone started to reassemble their weapons, hiding shurikens in their pockets and dawning their usual protective gear and various trinkets; Michelangelo had taken to emulating his bigger counterpart, though the chains he wore were much smaller and the sunglasses had the lenses popped out so he could see better. Donatello, as usual, stacked on as much tech as he could feasibly carry without struggle, and Leonardo made a point of tying his uneven mask tails into what could resemble a chonmage.
Raphael was glad he hadn’t gotten comfortable enough to take off his prosthetic shell; though he had grown used to the heavy titanium, polishing it to sheen nightly and sharpening the spikes to dangerous points, putting it on was always a task and a half. He patted his waist to make sure his most special trinket was still there, and it was. They were ready and were already on the move within minutes.

Swears melted off of Raph’s tongue like butter on a hot pan. The fall hadn’t hurt, but it certainly wasn’t comfortable with all this debris collapsed on top of him! He was able to lift the wood with ease once he had gained full control over his tingling body, every plank he moved releasing a new cloud of dust. He brushed what remained of the pigeon coop off and was finally able to stand up. Raph coughed and rubbed his eyes against the sting of irritation, gathering saliva up in his mouth so he could spit and try to remove the bitter taste of dirt; it helped, somewhat.
“Great.” Raph muttered, looking around, “Where am I now?”
“Raph.” A familiar, urgent voice called out to him, “Raph!”
“Leo?” Raph looked around until his eyes settled on Leo the next building over, peering over a parapet. When Leo saw Raph had spotted him, he waved his brother over. Raph shook off what remained of the dust and was able to clear the gap between the buildings with ease. “You see Mike or Don anywhere?”
“No.” Leo shook his head. “Have you?”
“No, that’s why I’m asking you.” Raph snapped, and then rubbed his head with a frustrated snort.
Leo took a slow, loud breath and cupped his hands over his face. Then he quickly puffed the breath out and said, “It’s gonna be fine Raph; we’ll find em. Remember when the smaller us’s first came to our world? They— they were all scattered around the city. The same thing probably happened to us, right? Shouldn’t be too hard to find them.”
“Valid hypothesis.”
Raph shouted, immediately grabbing for his sai as he fell back. Leonardo began to snicker as he joined Donatello at the front of the group; Donatello was smirking at successfully scaring the larger box turtle.
“Don’t do that!” Raph snarled, and then started to laugh weakly. “I coulda tossed your ass like salad.”
“I’d like to see you try, big-buff-bimbo.”
Raph almost choked. “What’d you just call me, eyebrows?”
“Do not insult the eyebrows!”
“So y'all finally came to visit huh?” Raphael beamed. He shoved his way through Donatello and Leonardo so he could take point.
Leo and Raph had to pause a moment to fully take in the form of Raphael; it seemed every time they met up, the snapper only got bigger and bigger! Now his size would have certainly surpassed even the height of Donnie, and in musculature he was very similar to Raph, though with a much broader head and beak. The wounds he had suffered on the day they first met had long since healed, a long silver slash across Raphael’s eye and jaw; that side of his maw never seemed to fully close anymore, and every so often his tongue would slip out or he would have to wipe away excess saliva.
Michelangelo had hardly changed at all, except for getting taller, which now demoted Leonardo to being the shortest brother. His face was still plump with baby fat, his shell still decorated with stickers and paint that covered up a plethora of scars and cracks, both new and old. Donatello hadn’t changed much either; a little taller, a little bulkier, and with more tech littering his body.
Leo sucked in a sharp, sudden breath when he saw Leonardo. It was clear that Leonardo, though his face was still bright and eyes glinting with mischief, had gone through some great trauma within the past year; cut across his chest were three very distinct slash marks, deeper and much worse at the bridge of his plastron where the damage was so severe that it showed the flesh beneath that would have usually been hidden by shell. The worst of the gash wasn't very extensive, quickly thinning and leading inward to Leonardo’s belly before fading away into lightning-like cracks across the upper plastron. His arm was covered in similar graying scars that ripped across the muscles, his hand tucked against his chest like it still needed to be cradled in a cast.
“HUGS!” Michelangelo jumped across gap and into Raph’s arms, giving a series of excited clicks as Raph naturally fell to cradling the smaller box turtle.
“How you doing, little man?” Raph laughed, rubbing Michelangelo’s head, “Lovin’ the bling!”
Michelangelo smiled proudly, puffing out his chest to better show the golden chain. The rest of his brothers covered the distance, Raphael laughing as he pulled Raph into a tight hug, both of them making a show of squeezing the other as strongly as possible.
“Leo.” Leo said to Leonardo with a bow of his head.
“Leo~” Leonardo repeated with a smirk, returning the bow. “So you guys visiting?”
“Not exactly.” Leo went on to explain. “Guess me and Raph just got spit out at the same place.”
“Right.” Raphael took a deep breath as he nodded, “Right. We can— we can handle this, right team?”
Leonardo, Donatello, and Michelangelo gave a shout of agreement.
“Right. Donnie, you remember where those other signals were?”
Donatello nodded and tapped his head. “Got ‘em all up here.” With that, Donatello led the way while the rest of the assorted turtles followed quickly.
“Hey big guy!” Raph said as he kept a steady pace with the snapping turtle. “Didn't get a chance to ask you last time, but what’s up with the fundo?”
Raph motioned to the golden and orange trinket that Raphael had weeded through his belt. Raphael looked down at it, then back up at Raph with a wide, toothy smile.
“It’s a yo-yo actually. Mike gave it to me! Said I had something of Donnie’s…” Raphael pointed back at the metal part of his shell, “Something of Leo’s…” He motioned to the scar over his eye that somewhat resembled Leonardo’s markings, “Just needed something of Mikey’s to complete the set.”
Raph found himself grinning ear to ear. “That’s great.”
The whole journey, Leo couldn’t stop staring at Leonardo and the new scars that his younger self had suffered during the period of no contact between their worlds. Leonardo was acutely aware of the stare but made no point of showing it; of course Leo would stare! Who wouldn’t stare at such a handsome stud of a mutant? Leonardo smirked at his own inner compliment and laughed which, to anyone outside of his own head, might have made him seem insane.
Donatello brought them first to an alleyway, strewn with trash and cast completely into darkness with nothing but shadows around them. Then one of the shadows melted and moved, and Donnie made himself known. After a quick reunion with his brothers as well as a meet and greet with the other turtles, they were on the move again.
They found Splinter hiding out in a storm drain just below the streets; the old rat was overjoyed to see his sons and he greeted the younger turtles with just as much sincere love. Gentle paws stroked and soothed and greeted before they were once more on the search seeking the final missing turtle.
