World Egg Day
Have fun with egg-based meals, from scrambled eggs for breakfast to egg cake for dessert. Make use of eggs in other ways by decorating them with family.
Arguably one of the oldest foods known to man, eggs have played an important role in the lives and health of humans since time out of mind. These little goodies are packed full of protein, and also serve as the base for some of the most wonderful breakfast foods and culinary additions, including that most perfect of condiments for sandwiches, mayonnaise.
World Egg Day celebrates these delightful little packages of deliciousness and the incredibly important role they play in the day-to-day lives of humans all over the planet.
History of World Egg Day
Typically, when most tend to consider the egg, they think of those white or brown shelled emissions that come from the common chicken. Containing a small treasure with a golden yolk, and the potential to become so many things that it strains the boundaries of human imagination, the Chicken Egg has become the definitive image when the word ‘egg’ is spoken.
But these are not the only type of eggs that mankind finds valuable, consider for a moment caviar, a symbol of wealth in its own right. These are, of course, the eggs of various fish, and World Egg Day represents their importance as well.
The history of the egg expands far beyond merely a culinary concern and, in fact, has had great importance in multiple cultures for reasons both decorative and religious. In many cultures around the world, eggs have been a sign of fertility and representative of life, renewal and rebirth.
Consider for a moment the Easter Egg, where children hunt each year for brightly colored eggs or plastic shaped in the form of the egg which contains treats such as chocolate, jellybeans, or money. In fact, decorated Easter Eggs are one of the oldest forms of decorative artwork in the world.
And what about the Faberge Eggs? Those beautiful pieces of artistic elegance created by Peter Carl Faberge from St. Petersburg, Russia. So beautiful were these that they were prized even by Czars!
World Egg Day reminds you to explore the hallways of history and the places that eggs occupy there. It’s time to get into celebrating World Egg Day!
How to Celebrate World Egg Day
Getting involved with celebrating World Egg Day can become an exciting adventure when it comes to celebrating everything to do with the Egg. Try out some of these ideas for celebrating the day:
Enjoy a Meal Including Eggs
Celebrating World Egg Day best starts with a great big plate of scrambled eggs served along with their most bosom companion, bacon. With a dash of salt and pepper, plus a little bit of cheese, that simple plate of eggs will be absolutely delicious!
For lunch, a great idea would be to create a sandwich upon a slice of Challah bread, a Jewish Egg bread that is nothing short of amazing. And the center of the sandwich? Well, that probably needs to be egg salad, of course. Make it with some boiled eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, and some chopped dill pickle relish.
Those who are feeling a little bit adventurous may look and find if there are types of eggs that they have, perhaps, never tried before. Duck Eggs are especially prized, and Goose Eggs are larger than the typical chicken egg but can be quite interesting when cooked in a variety of ways.
Learn Some Fun Facts About Eggs
World Egg Day is the perfect time to brush up on interesting tidbits and trivia that can be shared with various coworkers, neighbors, friends, or family members. They’ll be impressed with unique and interesting bits of information, such as:
Egg Color is Determined By Earlobes. The color of the egg doesn’t have anything to do with freshness, flavor or nutritional value. In fact, the color of the egg is determined strictly by the breed of the hen and corresponds to the color of the hen’s earlobe!
Chefs Hats are Influenced by Eggs. Some people aren’t aware that going back a little in history, the meaning of the number of the pleats in a chef’s hat was related to the number of ways that the chef was able to cook an egg. The ultimate goal and badge of true honor was to get to 100 pleats.
Iowa is a Big Egg Producer. In the United States, the state of Iowa leads the nation in egg production, with more than 14 billion eggs every single year! The next state comes in at around half of that: Ohio produces a little under 8 billion eggs per year.
Eating cooked eggs is healthier. While some people think that eating a raw egg will help to build muscle, that’s not true. Only about 50% of the proteins in a raw egg can be digested. After it’s cooked, the body can digest more than 90% of the proteins.
Get Creative with an Ostrich Eggs
For those of an artistic bent, there is great potential to be found in a carefully drained Ostrich Egg, one could even make themselves a lamp from such an egg!
World Egg Day encourages people all over the world to truly explore the possibilities within the egg!
Bonus: Egg Freshness Tips
Not sure if those eggs are fresh? The best way to test for freshness is by dropping an egg into a glass of water. If it sinks, it is fresh. If it floats? It’s probably old.
Eggs that have a cloudy white are extremely fresh! Most eggs that come from the grocery store have been sitting around a little longer and will probably have “whites” that are actually clear and colorless. They’re still fine to eat, though, unless the “whites” are some color other than cloudy white or transparent.

5/11/2021 - New Moon In Taurus & Horoscopes For All Signs
The New Moon in Taurus is here! This is a wonderful time of rejuvenation, relaxation, and peacefulness. The New Moon in Taurus will bring a sense of comfort to every sign, and provide a space for emotional security. Work on getting to bed a little earlier or perhaps sleeping in more on days where you can afford to. Reworking your daily routine to include some self-care is something highly encouraged by the Universe. When you start taking time for yourself, you will find that more opportunities and options show up for you effortlessly! You might be listening to binaural beats, Singing bowls, Guided meditations, and Subliminals. These are going to help clear your mind immensely which is going to recharge you. Switching up your nightly routine in order to wind down easier will help you get to sleep faster. Deciding to put your phone away an hour before heading to sleep will be beneficial in aiding your sleep. Reading books, drawing, or listening to music will also encourage you to express yourself or indulge in your imagination. Make sure to take naps throughout this New Moon in Taurus also as the days might make you feel a bit heavier. This is also a great time to renovate your living space as well. Some might be wanting to invest in new bed sets, furniture, or odds and ends. This is the perfect time to do so as you will feel more energized to fix the energy of your environments. When your space is cleaned and cleansed, you will feel so much more inspired to get to your daily routine. It's incredibly important to make your space around you into your sanctuary! Doing self care during this Taurus New Moon is crucial as well!
Meditation is also going to be a beneficial thing to harness during this New Moon Taurus! Don't fret too much about if you fall asleep during your meditation ; sometimes that's what you need at that moment. Try again after being fully rested! Some are being pulled to guided meditations on Youtube such as Past Life Regressions, Connecting with/Meeting your Spirit Guides, and Spirit Animal Meditations. This is the perfect time to really work on your spirituality and to better understand who your spiritual team are!
Rituals that you can do during the Taurus New Moon:
Let's cover some of the best face and skin treatment rituals for during this time, shall we? My grandfather always said to me growing up, “Cleanliness is Next To Godliness, And Your Body Needs To Be Cleaned Like A Temple”. This is going to be a wonderful time to focus on your Glow and to Clean YOUR body like the Temple it is. The overall vibe of the New Moon in Taurus going forward though is to take care of your skin through Face Masks, Facials, Sugar Scrubs, Baths or Bath Bombs. Deciding to have a spiritual bath can also be very healing during this time also as it will cleanse you going forward throughout the rest of the month. This can be baths that are taken with your favorite essential oils, your favorite candles burning, or your favorite crystals in the water with you. Focusing on Skincare by using your favorite oils before bed – Argon, Rosehip Seed, Raspberry, Marula, Carrot Seed, or even Jojoba Oil will help you increase your confidence this month. When we take the extra time and focus it on our skin, our mental space will thank us also. Some might be deciding to do the blackhead strips, charcoal masks, or under eye patches – and perhaps you have been debating with yourself on if you should get these things lately. Spirit is saying – Treat Yourself during this Taurus New Moon, dearest! You can also take this time to do an oil treatment in your hair, leaving it in overnight so it can absorb as much moisture as possible. Coconut oil is amazing for this, but beware if you have dyed your hair with henna as coconut oil can cause your dye to run.
One of my favorite things to do is create my own bath supplies, so I want to share my favorite recipes for Sugar Scrub:
½ Cup Brown Sugar
½ Cup Granulated Sugar
1/3 Cup Salt
1 Tablespoon Essential Oil of Your Choice!
Mix and then apply to your skin and all over your body. You can also add in coffee grounds, but I would suggest using more brown sugar as a cushion as the coffee grounds can be a bit rough against your skin. Sea Salt is also optional, but I generally don't use it unless I'm making a courser salt for feet and hands. Oatmeal masks are also amazing too as they calm inflamed skin or outbreaks of acne. Trust yourself and follow your intuition on what your skin needs most. I like to make two big batches of both peppermint and vanilla body scrubs during the holiday season so I always have them on hand throughout the year. These keep perfectly, so long as you don't get any water inside of the jar itself. Keep in a plastic container and get some out each time you're ready to go into the shower or bath. It's wonderful to use courser sugar scrubs right before you remove hair as well to exfoliate and lift the hairs you are wanting to shave or wax. Some might also be getting into Sugaring more over this period too, which your skin is going to thank you for!
Some Essential Oils I suggest for skin health and the yummy smell they have are as follows:
Lemon
Vanilla
Peppermint
Pomegranate
Frankincense
Another great, cost effective and organic home remedy facial treatment for those that don't mind doing a more nontraditional face mask - take an egg from the fridge, separate the yolk from the white into different cups. Whisk both separately, but save the yolk for later. Take the whisked egg white and begin to spread on your face. Let dry onto skin, then wash off. Go back to the yolk, give another whisk, then apply and wait until it dries again. Wash face off, and enjoy your skin feeling incredibly soft! I would do this every week as a teenager growing up as it was more accessible money-wise for me than affording face masks or oils. It really works amazingly! The whole process can take up to an hour, so make sure to have your favorite songs or videos ready to keep you company!

For one Capricorn in particular, people are noticing that booty. (The Tarot card in front of me, this man literally has the nicest butt haha, so I think this is a message for some.) Regardless of whatever you're focused on, things are getting done, Capricorn! Great job!
AIR: Page Of Cups – Someone has been keeping an eye on you, Air Signs! This is someone who wants to come in with a declaration of their feelings. This isn't anything big, and for some Air Signs, you might not even realize this person has deep feelings for you. This could entail them doing small acts of service, traveling to you, or opening up lines of communication more. For some this person is at a bit of a distance, or might have felt like they were. They're coming back around, don't worry! Other Air Signs are going to be focusing on their own Self-Care routine. This could include spiritual baths, space cleanses, facials, watching that new series that came out on Netflix, etc. Whatever it might be for you, you're deciding to start turning your attention towards your own care more. You're planning to be smarter in terms of business or just providing for yourself. Libras are not going to be taking no for an answer when it comes to their dreams any longer – no. You're deciding to start taking the bull by the horns to achieve what you really want. Some Libra's will have a change of heart from what they originally thought that they wanted or needed. I'm hearing, “What I thought I wanted, I don't actually want.” Interesting, Libra! Don't feel scared to change course! Just because you might have invested a lot into one path doesn't mean you should continue down it if it no longer resonates with your story (and who you are!)
Aquarius: Knight Of Coins – You're taking your shot, Aquarius, and it's looking to be a Bullseye! Trust in your talents and know that you have all of the resources to be able to accomplish your dreams. Yes it's good to keep pushing forward, but it's important to aim before you decide to shoot your arrow. Meticulousness is your biggest friend right now! Make sure to weigh all the pros and cons before making decisions as well. Some Aquarians might notice themselves having the Mitas Touch going forward! Everything you touch will be Gold, and you're going to really be bringing in that coin! In any event, whatever you're moving towards, Aquarius, is going to provide you with a new level of stability. Get excited!!
WATER: Justice – Divine Justice is coming your way, Water Signs! Are you ready for a major shift in your favor? Something you've waited for is finally coming full circle. For some, it's as if the Universe kept you in the dark so that when this finally got to you it would be a surprise. You're also being asked to get your life back in balance where it might not be. Getting back into your own equilibrium is going to give you better perspective as well. For other Water Signs your friends might be helping to give you insight on what is happening behind the scenes. There might be one friend in particular that is going to confide a secret in you. I feel this is going to be something that they haven't told anyone, so really hold this close. For one Water Sign in particular, it feels as if someone is testing you to see what you would do in a certain situation. A Cancer/Libra pairing could potentially be important.

Some are going to be spending more time in nature, perhaps taking up a nice camping spot near a creek or river. Butterfly imagery is going to be sent to you as a sign from Spirit. Take note of what you were thinking about when you see one as it's a message! Enjoy this time, Cancer! And be at one with Nature for a while, if you can. (Even if it just means buying a new plant for your room!)

Now is the time to start planning for any trips you would want to take as well, as your money is coming in fast. Is there somewhere you wanted to vacation? Or perhaps a local attraction you wanted to attend? Put yourself out there and seize the day, Pisces! The Universe also is saying that you are going to be receiving a lot more material items in your world as well. Some might be deciding to treat themselves to a shopping spree, a spa day, or perhaps you're getting cosmetics done such as a haircut. Whatever that might be for you, allow yourself to do it! Splurge on yourself and let yourself live in some lavishness. You are worth it after all, Pisces.
Scorpio: The Star – Scorpio, you are feeling hopeful that things are aligning the way that they are supposed to! Keep trusting in the Universe as your Manifestations are starting to trickle in. You might start to notice this over the next few weeks just how quick the Law Of Attraction works for you. You're feeling inspired to take care of your home space right now, Scorpio. You might be cleaning house and remaking you nest, so to speak. You're decorating and feeling compelled to bring more comfort into your space. Trust this and keep filling your space with things that bring your soul peace. For other Scorpio's, you're being asked to take Spiritual baths and and nurture yourself more. A few select Scorpio's will be feeling as though things are coming full circle with another individual as well. There might have been someone in the past who didn't want to give you the time of day, but now they're back. It's your call entirely, Scorpio.
FIRE: 9 Of Cups – A wish fulfillment is coming your way, Fire Signs! There is an energy of calm and peacefulness sweeping over all of you, and it will bring clarity. It will make you feel more inspired as well to accomplish your work and make that coin! For other Fire Signs, you are watching romance movies (or rom-coms) and imagining how wonderful it would be for someone to do these things for you. That person is coming! For one Fire Sign in particular, your person plays the guitar and will offer to serenade you. Let them, Fire Signs! And don't be embarrassed or shy away – you deserve a declaration of love worthy of your time!
Sagittarius: Knight Of Swords – You are making ground in your life fast, Sagittarius! You're achieving a lot, and it's really starting to show. This might be someone who travels a lot, or someone who has just been focused on themselves and their own abundance. They have a lot to share with you, and it's going to intrigue you all that this person has to say. For some, this person drives a red or white car. Other Sagittarius are going to be in frequent communication with someone completely new that is entering your life sooner than you know it. This bodes well for those Sagittarius looking for a partner online or on apps! For other's you might be hearing important news in regards to your home life or finances. This is going to bring good fortune and blessings your way.

It will seem like everyone wants a piece of you, Leo! So get some much needed R&R before you have to get going again! Other Leo's might be deciding to branch out on your own in regards to career. Whether this be a lip gloss business, or a homemade bracelet business, you will do amazing! But remember to go for it! The majority of Leo placements will feel as if they are closing out a chapter of their life and entering a more stable footing. Don't doubt!
Aries: The Devil – Aries, you are going to be in your head a lot over this Taurus New Moon. There's something that you want to be doing, or hoped would come around, that perhaps you feel a bit bound to. For some Aries you might be deciding to start over fresh in your life, and undergo a transformation. Good for you, Aries!! Do it! There's also an energy though of being too hard on yourself, especially while trying to obtain this glow-up, and The Universe wants you to see this as a form of Self-Sabotage. Spirit is also saying, “If being critical about yourself didn't help or work, why not try being your best friend instead?” See how things change when you look at your life from a different perspective. Take a look objectively and know that you aren't as trapped as your Ego is trying to make you think you are. You are being guided by Spirit over this New Moon period to find sanctuary within yourself, and to be content with where you are. Practice yoga breathing as well as this will clear your mind. For those in a toxic relationship, The Universe is telling you not to be scared to release this. After all ; when one door closes, another one opens!

who’s ready for more dumb as balls 00 headcanons
I dont care I’m doing it anyway
Get ready for a whole ass wall of text babey
Neil can’t eat spicy. He’s a baby-he burns his mouth on pepper, and the day he tried to play cool and accept some hot sauce on his food he nearly died and prompted an hour long roasting session from everyone on the Ptolemy. Lyle isn’t much better, but at least he admits it rather than make a fool of himself in front of Anew, who likes spicy so much she could probably put a burning coal in her mouth.
Neil is allergic to potatoes and because of him potato based foods were banned from the Ptolemaios, because he absolutely REFUSED to stop eating potatoes. Lyle’s biggest food problem is that he loves red meat EXTRA RARE. You can talk to him about salmonella as much as you like, Lyle fucking loves that blood taste, and if he dies he dies.
Tieria hates spicy food. With a passion. But nobody dares making fun of him for it.
Allelujah and Setsuna love eating spicy; Setsuna is the kind to get red as a lobster and sweat and get a runny nose while eating, but he gives 0 fucks, he loves it. Lasse is the same: spicy food is the best for him and if he dies he dies. Ian and Mileina also ADORE spicy food. Linda can’t eat it without dying, but supports them.
Chris and Lichty’s favorite thing to do on Earth wasn’t actually shopping: they spent most of their free time on space looking for all you can eat buffets to stuff their faces at as soon as they had some free time, and Lichty specifically looked for the ones with big dessert bars. Sumeragi supported this, specially if there was a lot of different kinds of pasta: 89% of her body weight is pasta, because she loves it even more than she likes booze.
Mileina’s happiest moment was the day she found out that in Mexico they sold whole ass mangos with lime juice, salt and chili powder. Mileina just generally loves street food from around the world and ALWAYS wants to try the weirdest things-if something has a pungent smell or is made with viscera she will be trying it. She keeps getting food poisoning, but she doesn’t care.
Lasse likes to pretend he’s healthy (he tries to eat healthy! he tries!) but space food tastes like wet cardboard in his opinion, so he mostly subsists with protein shakes; and then he swearshe will eat right when he goes to earth, but catch him right there with Mileina stuffing his face with street food and loves that Mileina is so adventurous and isn’t afraid of eating different things, makes it easier to eat less when he can share with her.
Much to Neil’s despair, Setsuna and Allelujah also loved street food a bit too much: he wouldn’t have minded, if it hadn’t been because they only wanted to eat spicy things.
Feldt’s favorite food ever are croque-monsieurs. She’d never really had anything like it before her first trip to earth, and for a couple of days Chris and Sumeragi almost went crazy trying to find something that didn’t make her stare at it like it had insulted her, because she was used to the bland space food she’d eaten all her life; then one morning Chris offered to share a croque-monsieur with her and Feldt was over the moon because she’d never tasted anything like it. She loves those lil fuckers not only because of how tasty they are-but also because they remind them of Christina.
Bonus:
Wang Liu Mei LOVES salted egg yolk buns and mooncakes. She will make herself sick from eating them if Hong Long doesn’t stop her, which is hard because he has the same problem.
Saji likes food a lot-he has been cooking for himself and his sister for a long while, and has never been a picky eater, but if there’s something he will go absolutely fucking apeshit for, it’s fucking fried chicken. He likes it so much that Louise always takes him to kfc for his birthday and it’s his favorite thing in the world.
Kinue doesn’t approve, but then again she has a HUGE pizza problem. They’ve had to eat it so often during late night shifts at work that she can’t stop. If you offer to buy her pizza she will ask you to marry her.

@mythandlaur blanch them. Get a cauliflower, chop it up, set a pot of boiling water with salt and once it's ready you drop the plant in for about 90 seconds and pull it out directly into a colander. That way it stays crunchy and you can use it for a recipe (blanched vegetables are not a dish, they're an ingredient, get creative with them.)
Quick recipe you can make with almost any vegetable and it will be delicious:
Precook the veggie as needed (blanching is preferable but anything works really.) Chop it up as necessary; an optional step if you have something soft is to turn it into a paddy and filling it with a bit of cheese.
Make some thick tomato sauce like you would for pasta and if you're feeling adventurous add a hit of Chipotle in. Also, make some white rice.
Flour your veggies. If they're chopped mix them with some flour until they have a thin layer covering them; if they're paddies just pat them on a plate with flour until they're completely covered.
Whip some egg whites using a blender until they have the consistency of beer foam. One by one, slowly integrate the yolks so they don't lose volume.
Before it deflates quickly drench a paddy or a ladle of your vegetables in your whipped eggs, then fish them out and drop them in a pot with hot oil ready to fry. It'll take a few seconds per side. Flip them, then pull them out to a colander to drop the excess oil.
Serve a few paddies on a plate, some rice to the side, and cover with tomato sauce. Eat hot.
Also, very important: look up ethnic recipes! If everything you cook was invented by a white American housewife in the 50s everything is gonna taste like overcooked steak and canned vegetables. If you don't like the food where you are, look for food from somewhere else. Avoid the mommy blogs and whatnot; those recipes are so watered down they're basically something entirely different and inferior to the original. Go to YouTube, sort by recent, find something with less than 100 views. General rule is the worse their English the better the recipe. And try to find it in their language if you speak it; if you're monolingual you're basically restricted to Indian food, which is still a huge spectrum; but if you took some Spanish in school that's Spain and all of Latin America; if you took French that covers parts of Canada and several countries in Africa; if you're a bit of a weeb try Japanese food (not just sushi and ramen, that's fast food, find the stuff they actually eat daily like oden). The point is open your horizons! You know why so many people hate white vegans? Because their diets look miserable to foreigners and omnivores! There's a lot of recipes all around the world that are completely or mostly vegetarian and you can pretty easily substitute the bits that aren't in most cases.
Finally: spice your shit! Pepper to taste doesn't mean a few twists, it means until you start sneezing. Stop being terrified of garlic, garlic is delicious and will spark joy in you. Keep an oregano plant and add a couple leaves to your boiling rice so it tastes much better. Do you smoke weed? Great, there's an entire Netflix show about using it as an ingredient. Keep your pantry full and use it to its full potential.
Vegetables only taste bad if you're bad at making them, so don't be. Learn to use them better from people who have been doing it for hundreds of years, not from Great Depression grandmas who didn't see a fresh plant in the kitchen until their teeth fell off. You have the entirety of human knowledge at your disposal; make use of it.
why is broccoli seen as this universally hated vegetable. broccoli is delicious

Clem Day’s Anchovy Roast Chicken With Salsa Verde And Lemony Aioli
Clem Day’s Anchovy Roast Chicken With Salsa Verde And Lemony Aioli
Food
Clementine Day
Anchovy roast chicken with salsa verde and lemon aioli by Clementine Day of Some Things I Like To Cook. Photo – Clementine Day.
The savoury full spread – recipes for this spring feast will be dropping throughout the week! Photo – Clementine Day.
Self-taught home cook and author of Some Things I Like To Cook, Clem Day! Photo –courtesy of Clementine Day.
Spring, for me, is such a hopeful time. Whatever darkness winter has brought starts to feel lighter and more manageable as the brightness of sunshine, the beautiful colours and smells of new flowers blooming and the fresh, almost citron growth on deciduous trees appears. Everything starts to thaw out, the temperature starts to average in the double digits again and things Just. Feel. Better. This is still true in the heart of lockdown, but it’s laced with a sense of loss. Peering out of your window to see a gorgeous sunny day tastes bittersweet in lockdown. You can’t go out and enjoy it in the same way. It teases you with its possibilities.
If you have a balcony, a courtyard, a rooftop, a nature strip, a backyard, a front yard, any space whatsoever where you can be outside, I want you to try and find the motivation to make this meal, or any meal, however you want to do it, to celebrate Spring. Check the weather in advance and pick a day that is scheduled, as confidently as possible, to be sunny and clear. We’re planning a ceremony of sorts, to sit outside basking in the sunshine, smell the flowers on the breeze, hear the insects buzzing around, eating delicious food and drinking a beverage with whoever you may be locked down with: your partner, your housemate, your family, your pet, yourself.
Spend your morning preparing and cooking this meal, and set your table with all of your nicest things. Flowers and your celebratory beverage of choice are essential. When you sit down to eat, allow yourself for a few moments to think about all of the lovely times you’ve done this with the people that you miss and can’t be with right now. And then move on. Focus on this moment. It is special, it’s a celebration, even if it is just for you. This is about celebrating spring, this beautiful season that brings us so much and also about having something to look forward to that will actually Go! To! Plan!
Stay tuned for the rest of the spring feast unfolding on TDF later this week!
Ingredients
1 whole chicken, approximately 1.8kg – 2kg 60g butter, softened 4-5 anchovies 2-3 tablespoons olive oil A good pinch of flaky salt 6-8 shallots, halved 1 bunch spring onions 2 lemons, cut in half
Salsa Verde: Green tops from 3-4 spring onions, diced A small handful of chopped soft green herbs (parsley, chives, coriander, basil are all good here) Juice and zest from 2 lemons 4-5 anchovies, chopped finely 2/3 cup olive oil, approx
Aioli: 1 egg yolk 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 garlic clove, grated finely ¼ olive oil ½ cup neutral oil Juice from 1 lemon
method
Firstly, preheat your oven to 220 C.
Onto a big rimmed baking tray, place your chicken in the centre. Squish both halves of one of your lemons into the cavity.
Finely chop your anchovies, so they resemble a paste, and combine with your softened butter. Gently separate the skin from the chicken breast by pushing your hands under the skin from the neck of your chicken. Once you’ve separated the skin across as much of the body as you can, spread about a third of the anchovy butter underneath the skin.
Truss the chicken legs tightly using some twine. Now using your hands, again, spread the remaining anchovy butter all over the outside of the chicken. Don’t leave any bit unbuttered.
Peel and slice your shallots in half lengthways, I like to cut a couple into quarters too. Place these around the outside of your chicken. Remove the green ends of your spring onion and place the remaining stalks around the chicken, too, as well as your other halved lemon, cut side down. Drizzle the vegetables with a little bit of olive oil and give a final sprinkle with flaky salt. If you go too hard on the olive oil here, your veg won’t char.
Into the oven now for 40 minutes. Just leave it. After 40 minutes rotate your pan and cook for a further 20-25 minutes. The skin should be nicely browned and crispy, the veg should be nice and charred. If you’re nervous, insert an instant-read thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh – you want it to read 75° C. Once ready, remove from the oven and let sit for 5-10 minutes before carving. I like to simply quarter the chicken – two breasts, two legs, and more slicing and dividing can happen once you’re at the table, if necessary.
For the salsa verde, in a bowl combine diced green ends of the spring onion, finely chopped herbs and anchovies. Add the lemon zest and juice from both lemons. Top up with your olive oil – you may require more than I have called for – just add the oil until it’s a nice, liquidy sauce.
Lastly, the aioli. In a bowl, whisk together egg yolk, garlic and Dijon mustard. Slowly drizzle in a very small stream of olive oil, whilst whisking continuously, making sure it’s emulsifying nicely. It should look as though it’s thickening and becoming creamy. Continue streaming in all olive oil, slowly, while whisking. Now move to the vegetable oil, still whisking the whole time. You can let the stream get a bit heavier once you’ve switched to the vegetable oil. At this stage, it should be thick! Squeeze in the juice from your lemon, just do half to begin with, and whisk. You’ll notice the whole thing will quickly become a paler shade of yellow. You don’t want it to be too wet, so if you think it can take it, add the juice from the other half of the lemon and whisk to combine. This is your lemony, garlicky aioli. Yum!
To serve, I like to lay the chicken quarters out on a large place, scatter the shallots, lemon and spring onions on there too and drizzle with a bit of the salsa verde. Serve with the rest of the salsa verde and the lemony aioli in a bowl on the side.

The Usual Food Places We Visit
Malacca is synonymous for its cheap and yummy food. The list below are some of the places which I tend to visit when I go back to Malacca. I have chosen the ones which are closer to the hotel. Feel free to contact me for more suggestions!
1) Bak Kut Teh Teo Chew
This is the Malaysian style Bak Kut Teh, where the broth is herbal instead of the peppery variant found in Singapore. By default, one portion will consist of pork ribs, pork belly and meat balls. You may also choose to add various type of mushrooms and also intestines, if you fancy.
You may also consider ordering the trotter. Our usual order would be a portion of bak kut teh, a portion of the trotter, and a fried vegetable (variants of vegetables differ daily).
This place is about 500m walking distance from Hatten Hotel.

Related blog post and images taken from:

2) Roti Canai @ Kopitiam Otak Otak Formosa
….or what is known as Roti Prata in Singapore. This is one of my favourite roti canai shops in Malacca. However, it is closed on Sundays. We love the simple dhal gravy which is normally accompanied by a small dollop of sambal. We personally like the Roti Planta, but it may appear too oily for some.
This Kopitiam is about 450m away from Hatten Hotel and is the same row as the Bak Kut Teh Teo Chew shop mentioned above.

3) Daily Fix Café
This café is located in Jonker Walk. Finding it is slightly tricky as you will need to navigate through a souvenir shop before you reach the café. The café offers a fair share of fusion creations which incorporate popular local flavours into our favourite western spread.
We really enjoy the pandan flavoured pancakes. This place also scores very high in the Instagrammable Index!
You may choose a scenic 1.5km walk through town where you will pass some museums and historical sites, including Stadhuys (the Red Building).
4) Restoran Saravanna
Typically, for Southern Indian Food, we visit Saravanna. This is where you can have banana leaf rice, with unlimited top up of rice, fish or chicken gravy, papadam, and 3 side veges. Once you have your banana leaf in front of you, diligent workers will come by scooping your desired amount of rice, veges and curries. You can also go to the bain marie where there is a wide array of dishes to choose from. We typically take fried bitter gourd, mutton varuval, and the fish cutlet.

5) Donald and Lily
Donald and Lily is a good option for those who want to try some local fare of nyonya food. This place typically serves portions for one individual, which you can then share around if you want. As such, you do not have the option of choosing nyonya dishes to go along with rice. What you get here are the usual suspects, like individual portions of mee siam and laksa. The cendol here is also decent. I normally have the Laksa or the Nasi Lemak.
Donald and Lily is about 3km away from Hatten Hotel, so you may want to drive there or get a Grab / Uber.

6) Kafe Lin’s
Unlike Donald and Lily, Nyonya Lins Kitchen has a more familiar mixed rice concept. Dishes are pre-prepared for you to pick from. You get a plate of rice and pick what you want yourself instead of having someone doing the scooping for you, something quite uncommon in Singapore. We really like the simple sambal pork. To those who are adventurous, you can try a very authentic nyonya dish called Buah Keluak
Kafe Lin is 5km away from Hatten Hotel. It is along the way to Klebang, so if you intend to also pop by for the famous Melaka Coconut Shake, this place is somewhat along the way.

7) Klebang Coconut Shake
This little street stall serves a very refreshing coconut shake, which mainly consists of Walls vanilla ice cream mixed with coconut water and coconut flesh. Very simple yet yummy. There may be a long queue required though.
The stall is along a single lane road on the way to Klebang. It is about 7.5km away from Hatten Hotel if you are driving.

8) Bunga Raya Popiah
The innocent popiah is given a high octane boost by inclusion of very generous amounts of lard. Each bite will at least be accompanied by some fine bits pork cracklings, which complement the popiah very well!
The push cart is located in a small place called “Bunga Raya”, which is not too far away from The Shore Shopping Centre. If you are already planning to go to The Shore (Shopping Center), you may want to consider stopping by. It is a 2.7km drive from Hatten Hotel.

30 Authentic Spanish Recipes to Make at Home – Wild Junket Adventure Travel Blog
Looking for Spanish dinner ideas? Here are 30 of the best Spanish recipes including paella, churros and traditional tapas recipes from Spain.
As you probably know by now, Spain is my second home. My husband is Spanish and we lived in Spain for around 8 years. So I might be biased, but I think Spain has the best food in the world.
Spanish cuisine is vibrant and diverse, rich in culture and history. Cooking methods in Spain are simple — allowing flavors of the fresh ingredients and condiments to shine through. Each region also has its own specialties, creating plenty of variety and distinctive flavors in one country.
After sharing some of the most popular Spanish food with you last week, I have been inspired to show you how to prepare them. But since I’m not a food expert, I enlisted the help of the real experts: food bloggers who definitely know what they’re talking about.
Here are 30 easy, authentic Spanish recipes that you can make at home!
Recipes from Spain: Typical Spanish Breakfast
One of the most traditional Spanish dishes for breakfast is a tostada, basically a slice of toasted baguette bread. The Spanish usually eat their tostada with olive oil or grated tomato (and topped with Spanish ham if they’re fancy!).
We made this at home almost everyday when we lived in Spain. Originally from Catalonia, the tostada is called Pa amb tomàquet in Barcelona, Valencia and the Balearic islands.

Churros with chocolate sauce are a very popular snack in Spain. These deep-fried pastries are sometimes referred to as Spanish doughnuts. Churros are very crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and smell heavenly.
Churros are very easy to make and this recipe from Spain is simple to follow. All you need to do is throw all the ingredients except the flour into a pot. When they come to the boil, add the flour, mix in and it’s ready!

Torrijas have long been part of the Spanish cuisine. While traditionally eaten on specific religious celebrations, these sweet delights have found their way into breakfast tables and regular menus.
Traditionally, torrijas are made of a slice of stale bread soaked in milk that is flavored with vanilla, cinnamon and the likes. It is then re-soaked in a bowl of beaten egg before being fried in olive oil.

Recipes from Spain: Traditional Spanish Tapas

Tortilla de Patatas or Tortilla Española is definitely one of the most popular Spanish tapas among both locals and tourists. The Spanish Omelette is an egg and potato dish that is cooked in a skillet.
It might sound pretty basic and simple to make, but making a good Spanish Omelette isn’t quite as easy as you think. The best ones are crispy on the outside and runny on the inside. This is one of the best Spanish recipes I’ve found on the internet.

Patatas Bravas are one of the most popular street foods and traditional tapas in Spain. It is a simple dish of white potatoes fried in oil and drizzled with a spicy sauce.
In this healthy version of the Spanish recipe, potatoes are baked instead of fried and then topped with a homemade aioli and tomato sauce! The three components together with a bit of lemon juice is decadent.

Every Spaniard swears that their mother makes the best croquettes. These creamy fritters are a staple of the Spanish tapas scene, and you’ll find them on the menu in almost every tapas bar and restaurant in Spain.
They come with different fillings, but the most popular ones are croquetas de jamón (cured ham croquettes). These are small, lightly breaded and fried bechamel fritters that have tiny bits of delicious Spanish cured ham in them.

One of the most unique Spanish dishes, the Ajo Blanco is a close relative of the Gazpacho. Originally from Andalusia in southern Spain, the dish itself has a storied history stretching back centuries.
Every year in early September, the town of Almachar near Malaga holds a festival in celebration of this soup. This ajo blanco recipe is really easy to make and most of its ingredients are easy to find anywhere in the world.

Pimientos de Padron takes its name from the Spanish town of Padrón, located in the Coruna province of northern Spain. Locals have been growing these little peppers for ages. Over time the cultivation has spread to southern Spain as well, and they are widely grown in Mexico and some southern American states.
Eating pimientos de Padron is like playing the Russian roulette, as nobody knows if a pepper is hot or mild. Around one out of every ten is rather hot and spicy. This is an easy Spanish recipe that requires only 5 minutes to cook!

Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp in garlic sauce) is one of my favorite Spanish dishes and it is hugely popular in Spain. It is often served as a traditional Spanish tapa (small dishes), designed to be shared with friends. The smell of garlic is amazing and the sizzling sound even more enticing.
The recipe for Gambas al Ajillo varies depending on the region. For example, in Seville they are prepared with a favorite local sherry, Manzanilla. Other areas favor brandy or sweep paprika, different types of hot peppers (or none) and fresh lemon juice.

Espinacas con garbanzos are a traditional Spanish tapa hailing from Seville, and are popular during the chilly winter months. But the dish’s history goes far beyond Andalusia.
Spinach originates from Ancient Persia (modern Iran). Arab traders got their hands on it and eventually introduced it to the Mediterranean.
This authentic Spanish recipe is really simple and perfect for vegans. You can serve it as a main course or as part of a traditional Spanish tapas spread.

Originating from Granada (where I lived!), this is a simple but delicious dish best made with fresh broad beans and mountain-cured Serrano ham. Mention Spanish cuisine and most people would think of paella. The national dish of Spain is well known all over the world, and is definitely the number one most popular Spanish food.
The paella is originally from Valencia, but is popular all over the country these days. Seafood paella is a variation of this famous dish, and it is one of the most delicious one in our opinion.
This easy authentic Spanish recipe is surprisingly easy to make, and you can easily remove one or two of the seafood ingredients.

Another of my personal favorite Spanish dish, Fideua is essentially paella made with pasta instead of rice. Like paella it should be cooked in a big paella pan. The best way to cook paella is outside on an open fire.
However, this easy Spanish recipe works just fine in a normal frying pan if you’re cooking for two. This recipe is remarkably delicious, but it’s also quick. It only takes 20 minutes including prep time to whip up this amazing dish.

Originally from the Catalunya province of Spain, the Catalan fish stew is a wonderful combination of fishiness, tomato and the smooth earthiness and aroma from the nut flours and the herbs. It is warmly comforting but also not too heavy.
The dish is also sometimes known as a romescada, the Spanish translation. The romesco sauce comes from Catalunya, and it is delicious mix of peppers, hazelnuts, almonds and garlic, amongst other things.

One of the most common Spanish main courses found in restaurants is the Rabo de Toro or bull’s tail stew.
Rabo de toro was originally developed so as not to waste any part of the bull killed in the bullfighting ring. Hence the dish is most common in southern Spain, home of traditional bullfighting.
This recipe from Spain is authentic and requires lots of patience and time. But rest assured the stew will turn out amazing, with a thick garlicky sauce and tender fall-off-the-bone meat.

Cocidos, or stews, are a longstanding tradition in Spain and are especially eaten in winter. Each region in Spain produces its own version of the cocido, but the most popular version is the cocido madrileño (Madrid stew).
The dish originated in Madrid, and grew in popularity during the 19th and 20th centuries. Since the main ingredient — chickpeas — were relatively cheap and easy to acquire, it was often on the menu in taverns and small restaurants. Nowadays, it’s a household staple and mixed meat play a big role in it.

Originally from the mountainous region of Asturias in northern Spain, this classic stew is a pork lover’s dream, packed with chorizo, morcilla (blood sausage) and pork belly. It’s just what you might expect of mountain food – relatively simple, hearty, and making use of cheaper cuts of meat.

Another popular Spanish dessert, the Crema Catalana is a creamy, smooth custard dish that has been said to be virtually identical to the French crème brûlée. It might not be as well known as crème brûlée, but in our opinion, it is both better and easier to make.
One of the wonderful things about this recipe from Spain is that it takes only a few ingredients and they are easy to find in most parts of the world.

This is Spain’s version of rice pudding, which is a common dessert around the world. Unlike other versions though, the Spanish arroz con leche is served cold.
In this Spanish dessert recipe, we use risotto or paella rice as the base. That gives the dessert a nice, chewy texture. To add Mediterranean flare, sprinkle some cinnamon and lemon peel on top of the arroz con leche.

Tarta de Santiago or St. James’ cake is a typical Spanish dessert that originated in Galicia, Northern Spain. You can easily recognize it by the St. James’ cross in the middle (which you will see often on the Camino de Santiago).
For this Spanish dessert recipe, you only need 10 minutes of preparation. Also, you don’t need any special tools or gadgets to make this flourless almond cake. A fork, a bowl and a wooden spoon is all you need.

A cooling creamy drink for summer, horchata (or orxata as it is spelled in Valencia and Catalunya provinces) is essentially tiger nut milk. It is squeezed from the tiger nut (not actually a nut at all, but a small root vegetable) or chufa in Spanish. It tastes slightly similar to almond milk and is often mixed with cinnamon.
For this easy Spanish recipe, feel free to use other nuts (such as almonds) if you can’t find tiger nuts. Horchata only lasts about 2 days in the fridge, but it tastes so good, so you’ll probably want to drink it all at once!

Manila Life Café by Marriott Manila Opens at NAIA Terminal 3
Checking in early for your flight at the airport used to be so boring. With the horrendous city traffic, we really need to get to the airport way ahead of time. But what are we supposed to do while waiting for our departure? We don’t always have access to airport lounges, and the usual dining options at the airport can be uninspiring. But now, there’s a new casual dining outlet at NAIA Terminal 3 that offers a new take on Filipino cuisine, plus it lets you relax in the comfort of a cafe that feels more like staying in a five-star hotel lounge.
Manila Life Cafe by Marriott Manila has just opened at the fourth floor of NAIA Terminal 3, just above the entrance from the airport’s indoor carpark. This is the hotel’s first standalone cafe and establishment outside Resorts World Manila but it serves as perfect welcoming party for travelers who have just arrived at the airport, or a great sendoff for those waiting for their flights. Manila Life Cafe gives a taste of Manila's comfort food and local favorites from 7:00am to 8:00pm daily and there’s no better place to while away the time in luxury and style.
The cafe held its opening and ribbon-cutting ceremonies last October 16, 2017 and is now ready to serve not just travelers with valid plane tickets, but also friends and relatives who are waiting inside the terminal. You can find the cafe at the airport’s public area, so you don’t need to have any ticket to enjoy its facilities.
Aside from the terminal entrances, another way to access Manila Life Cafe is with a short walk via Runway Manila, a new bridge directly connecting Resorts World Manila to NAIA Terminal 3. This modern walkway lets guests staying at Resorts World Manila simply walk to the airport in a convenient manner, which is actually a faster way to get there than through the airport shuttles or taxis.
Traffic inside NAIA Terminal 3 can be hazardous at times, so Runway Manila offers a good alternative for arriving and departing passengers. It also comes with walkalators and shuttles for those with very heavy luggages or equipment.
Manila Life Cafe is actually the first establishment that will greet travelers as they enter the airport using Runway Manila, so it acts an an extension of their Resorts World Manila hotel stay. This 94-seater café feels like those classy airport lounges that are only available for flyers with business class tickets or special travel cards.
One of Manila Life Cafe’s best features is its front desk service that lets Marriott Manila guests easily check in right after landing at the airport. They can immediately check-in for their stay and request for concierge services if they need to do so. Guests can even finish check-out procedures off-site from the hotel, especially if they are in a rush to catch their flights.
The cafe offers several cozy nooks with its walls and designs giving a small glimpse of Manila’s busy city life. Flat screen TVs are available inside the cafe so you can just grab the daily newspaper, order a cup of coffee, and relax as if you were staying at the hotel lobby. Don’t worry about missing your flight, because the front desk will gladly remind you about your schedule.
For foreign travelers who have just arrived at Manila, the cafe will be their first contact with the exciting and oftentimes adventurous city called Metro Manila. The atmosphere inside the cafe is fun and happy, just like how Filipinos are, with nostalgic pop music playing in the background like the late Francis Magalona’s Man from Manila and other tunes from the 70′s to the 90′s.
The bar area is also another place to unwind with its menu of local and imported beers, signature cocktails, juices, brewed coffee and brewed tea. Local craft beers from Crazy Carabao Brewing are one of the cafe’s highlights, like the Exit Wounds (P300) IPA. They also have other refreshing beverages like smoothies, bubble teas, and fresh buko juice.
Manila Life Cafe takes pride in serving classic Filipino dishes and flavors with a twist. This is a great introduction for foreigners to open their palates to Filipino cuisine. On the other hand, balikbayans will be happy to rediscover these classic flavors they have always loved.
The cafe offers an interesting set of appetizers which include the Grilled Chicken Inasal Salad (P280). This Filipino-style salad comes with cuts of flavorful chicken inasal, a recipe from Bacolod with the chicken cooked in vinegar. It is combined with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, salted egg, and then doused in garlic dressing.
Another fusion dish is the Sisig Nachos (P270) which has crunchy tacos topped with pork sisig, Jalapenos, pickled onions, chicharon, and onion cream. The sisig is one of the Philippine cuisine’s most popular delicacies and this is a good way of promoting our unique food and flavors.
If you miss eating all those yummy but sometimes dangerous street food, then get the Manila Street Food Platter (P290) for a true taste of the city. This bowl comes with homemade fishballs, chicken fritters, and fried quail eggs or kwek kwek which you can make “tusok-tusok” with the stick. You can also dip it on the sweet soy, spiced vinegar, or sweet and sour sauce.
Manila Life Cafe offers a couple of All Day Breakfast items like the Tap-de-log (P250), a Tapa & Egg Pandesal Sandwich with savoury beef tapa and fried egg inside a freshly baked pandesal bread. This is one way of eating your beef tapa on the go.
Those who want to get a heavier breakfast should order the Manila Surprise Plate (P290). This rice bowl comes with pork longanisa, tocino, fried egg, and salted egg with tomato on top of warm garlic rice. This is the typical Filipino breakfast and it’s comforting to have this option inside the airport.
Diners who want a quick snack can choose from the cafe’s Manila Tacos and Burgers. The Crisp Fish Tacos (P330) is made with sustainably caught Mahi Mahi fillet, green mango slaw and garlic sour cream. Other tacos include the Pork Sisig Tacos (P330) and the Chicken Inasal Tacos (P330).
Burgers are also on the menu like the Crispy Chicken Burger (P320). This crunchy burger is cooked with inasal marinade and comes with tomato, lettuce, onions, and garlic soy aioli. The bun is actually made of pandesal bread, a unique way of serving burgers.
Their signature burger is the Manila Life Bacon and Mushroom Burger (P390) with its homemade beef patty, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, bacon crisp. This meaty burger will surely satisfy any appetite. All burgers are served with house fries.
Those who want a complete meal for lunch or dinner should get any of the Mama’s Comfort Bowls - Filipino favorite rice toppings and stir fry noodles.
The Pancit Luglug (P350) is a Pampanga version of the palabok, a Filipino rice noodle dish served with a medley of toppings and sauces. This one comes with a homemade shrimp sauce, chicharon bits, and boiled egg.
The Sisig Rice (P350) is always a favorite, especially with its generous serving of pork sisig, chicharon, green chili, and fried egg on top of steamed rice. Cut open the egg and mix the yolk together with the sisig for a truly indulgent meal.
The Beef Kaldereta (P380) is a popular Filipino dish that can be seen in any home. This Filipino tomato-based beef stew comes with local vegetables and is always a good viand to have with rice.
If there’s one item that can be considered as the Filipino national dish, then it is the adobo. Diners can enjoy this classic at Manila Life Cafe with their Pork Adobo (P350) rice topping. This braised pork belly is cooked in soy sauce and vinegar then served with boiled egg, a simple but well-loved Filipino recipe.
There’s one other highlight at the cafe, a celebrity-inspired dish from one of the most popular showbiz families in the country. The It Takes Gutz Homemade Bam-I (P330) is a recipe from actress and beauty queen Ruffa Gutierrez which was inspired by their homegrown dish from Cebu. This Cebuano pancit is made with chicken strips, sliced pork, shrimp, chinese chorizo, wood ear mushroom, cabbage and carrots. It is surprisingly quite good and I highly recommend you try this when you visit the cafe.
For desserts, the Purple Yam Roll (P205) is another specialty with its good shepherd ube, purple yam cake, cream cheese filling and macapuno strings. Another option is the Mango Sago (P180) with its Gumaras mango cubes and milky mango puree, tapioca pearls and pomelo bits.
For those in a hurry, the cafe also offers items you can easily grab and take with you including freshly baked pastries, pies, breads, empanadas and cookies. Cakes are also on hand like the tempting Leche Flan Cake (P85/slice) which just looks too good to resist.
Travelers can also take a little piece of Manila with them with these take away food items and souvenirs. Caps, shirts, mugs, and even small jeepney toys are available to keep Manila always in their hearts. Manila Life Cafe is a very welcome addition to the facilities and restaurants inside NAIA Terminal 3. Now, I don’t need to look for an airport lounge because dining at the cafe is just as cozy and luxurious. Congratulations to Marriott Manila for such a great concept!

World Egg Day
Arguably one of the oldest foods known to man, eggs have played an important role in the lives and health of humans since time out of mind. These little goodies are packed full of protein, and also serve as the base for some of the most wonderful breakfast foods and culinary additions, including that most perfect of condiments for sandwiches, mayonnaise.
Egg Day celebrates these delightful little packages of deliciousness and the incredibly important role they play in the day-to-day lives of humans all over the planet.
History of Egg Day
Typically, when most tend to consider the egg, they think of those white or brown shelled emissions that come from the common chicken.
These are, of course, the eggs of various fish, and Egg Day represents their importance as well.
Egg Day reminds you to explore the hallways of history and the places that eggs occupy there. It’s time to get into celebrating Egg Day!
How to Celebrate Egg Day
Getting involved with celebrating Egg Day can become an exciting adventure when it comes to celebrating everything to do with the Egg. Try out some of these ideas for celebrating the day:
Enjoy a Meal Including Eggs
Celebrating Egg Day best starts with a great big plate of scrambled eggs served along with their most bosom companion, bacon.
Egg Day is the perfect time to brush up on interesting tidbits and trivia that can be shared with various coworkers, neighbors, friends, or family members.
Egg Day encourages people all over the world to truly explore the possibilities within the egg!

Gazpacho is a famous dish from the Andalucía province of southern Spain, where I used to live. It is a soup made of raw, blended vegetables, like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, onions, and garlic.
It is drank cold, and this is a popular dish throughout Spain during the sizzling hot summers! Try this simple authentic Spanish recipe for a summer respite.

These little bite-sized pork tenderloin served in skewers are a fun and tasty addition to a tapas party. Pinchos are simple bites found commonly in the northern provinces of Spain, such as the Basque Country and Castilla y Leon.
Pincho Moruno is one of the best Spanish recipes for a summer barbecue. It simply involves grilling small chunks of pork tenderloin spiced with paprika and cumin.

Originating from Granada (where I lived!), this is a simple but delicious dish best made with fresh broad beans and mountain-cured Serrano ham. Sometimes it is topped with a runny fried egg, with the yolk spilling over the beans. My mother-in-law used to make this often at home and it is one of my favorite home-cooked Spanish dishes.

Bacalao a la Vizcaina is a delicious salt cod dish from the Basque Country of Spain, that’s popular throughout Latin America. Although this bacalao seco (dry salt cod fish) dish is most popular on Christmas Eve and at Easter, you can enjoy it any time of the year.
This Spanish dinner recipe features bacalao seco (dry salt cod fish) in batter bathed in a savory tomato sauce. It gets loads of personality from the mix of olives, red pepper, potato and herbs.

Spanish Recipes: Meat Dishes

The base of this Spanish stew consists of white beans and a hint of pimentón. It is very heavy, and I would recommend making this traditional Spanish recipe for lunch instead of dinner.

“Migas” actually means “crumbs” and the bread crumbs or pieces of bread are the main ingredient for this dish. The bread crumbs are then fried with pieces of sausage or meats, in olive oil with garlic, then flavored with Spanish paprika.

Traditionally, torrijas are made of a slice of stale bread soaked in milk that is flavored with vanilla, cinnamon and the likes. It is then re-soaked in a bowl of beaten egg before being fried in olive oil.

However, this easy Spanish recipe works just fine in a normal frying pan if you’re cooking for two. This recipe is remarkably delicious, but it’s also quick. It only takes 20 minutes including prep time to whip up this amazing dish.

One of the most common Spanish main courses found in restaurants is the Rabo de Toro or bull’s tail stew.
