i think the nintendo switch had a bunch of really revolutionary and awesome games in the first two years after its release and after that it's basically been spinning its wheels

the only game i've been excited about on this system since early 2020 was engage; i was excited about acnh but that was disappointing. nothing on this damned system has fulfilled its promises since kirby star allies and three houses and even those have major flaws

i'm a pretty strong kirby fan and i'm just incredibly mad about the forgotten land after the RTDL remaster; it has basically no platforming, the puzzles are all gimmicks (i did not have any difficulty with a single puzzle room) and the boss fights are the only thing that makes the game interesting; which is completely destroyed by the ability upgrade system.

speaking of the ability upgrades, none of them really do anything new. they just make the original better, with a couple exceptions (gigant sword's guard, etc.) there's no reason to use the original versions. therefore, there are low numbers of abilities.

meanwhile the rtdl remake added sand and mecha, two really interesting abilities that play well into the game environments, and magolor mode, which is full of content AND very fun to play.

scarlet and violet also have this big open world, but they don't do anything interesting with it. why does legends arceus have a more interesting way to engage with wild pokemon. who cares about how finished it is or isn't, why are there no puzzles or gameplay challenges? who cares about fucking multiplayer raids? backwards longjumping on your box legend is the only interesting gameplay element.

i don't care about fucking exploring a world if there's nothing interesting to do in it!

why is the only thing a video game wants to do on the nintendo switch post-2020 just "have a neat story"?

why is FUCKING FIRE EMBLEM ENGAGE the only GAME on this GAME CONSOLE in the past year by a first-party developer?

intelligent systems constantly shits the bed and god knows fire emblem fans hate fire emblem. how do you manage to make less interesting games than they do?

i hate how every game nowadays is a walking simulator with a story attached.

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

See one of the unrealized beautiful things about Jean and Neil's friendship is that the more they hang out, the more their boyfriends have to hang out, too. Andrew and Jeremy actually have a lot of potential as friends, Andrew actually likes nice people, i think Jeremy is capable of getting Andrew to talk with him, they are both blonde Californians with dark taste in partners, they hate cops, they have weird relationships with their siblings, but they take mental health seriously, and they dont make Exy their whole personality. While Jean and Neil are having a complicated crime filled lovehate, "we are brothers from the same messed up family" friendship. Jeremy and Andrew could actually develop a really nice, uncomplicated friendship where they babysit the others' bf when they are in town.

in theory gem and joel being the only faction with full lives is gonna put a huge target on their backs next session, but also they've done a pretty good job at allying themselves with most of the server (a path to renwood, the tuff guys hate each other but they all like gem and joel, skizz said theyre his favourite faction and according to mumbo theyre "aligned like the stars", the bamboozlers still have the flower gem gave them though that hasnt stopped jimmy from attempting to murder joel) and also turning people against the final girls (mostly impulse) AND on top of that they have formidable reputations and everyone is afraid to engage in pvp with them (as demonstrated by mumbo), so i really think next session we're more likely to see the other dark greens get targeted by everyone else. except maybe jimmy and scar, who seem intent on joel dying
