Maybe but what are the odds that the weeds know about Ryūjō or Hōshō or Zuihō or the utter disaster that was what they did to Ise and Hyūga? Plus, I would wager that most Terrans wouldn't be able to tell you more than four of the eight capital ships in the Kidō Butai. In my experience, people know Akagi and Kaga (although they don't know why Akagi and Kaga were converted specifically, as they don't understand the implications of the Washington Naval Treaty and the damage of the Great Kantō earthquake in 1923) and they know Sōryū and Hiryū, but if you went out on the street, I would guess that most people, much less plants who just fought a war against the Accord, would be able to pick Shōkaku or Zuikaku out of a lineup, much less Hiei or Kirishima.
Considering the amount of military obsessed trans girls I've met I wonder how these inevitably domesticated sophonts would manage to explain to their owners that they need detailed WW2 battle reports for their latest overnet video breakdown of some obscure battle between the USS *insert state* and the DKM unbekannt

Ok I know people on here probably already know this but like. I want to say. Asuka blowing up Japan was not just a "Haha I'm gonna just do this" it was a "Oh fuck what the fuck is happening we need to aim this so the entire earth doesn't get fucked" and last ditch directed it at Japan. I AM NOT EXCUSING THAT! I AM NOT SAYING ASUKA NEVER DID ANYTHING WRONG I JUST WANT PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND THE EVENTS CORRECTLY! Asuka's main goal in turning Aria into Justice was to prevent the Gear Project from being used for war so he created Justice out of Aria (THIS is something you can hate him for this is an extremely fucked up thing to do and I'm not going to analyze what he did to Fredrick and Aria in this post because that's a whole other can of worms) as a command type Gear to be able to PREVENT total war by taking control of ALL gears. However UNBEKNOWNST to him the Universal Will was taking control of Justice/Aria as she awoke and was going to destroy humanity (because The Original fucked up in making the Universal Will and some weird clause happened where "protect humanity" ended up being "humanity is a threat to itself so they all have to die") by mutating the people in Japan into bombs. Asuka realized that if it went on like this the world might be destroyed and in the moment he redirected Justice with the last bit of control he had over her using Manual Override to just destroy Japan to prevent this. It was NOT an easy or light decision that he had time to make! He had to try and stop the Gear Project from being used for warfare and destruction, TWICE, and failed both times and ended up destroying the world anyway. He put the Flame of Corruption in Frederick and turned him into a gear as a failsafe before this, likely because Asuka ONLY had Frederick and Aria to rely on as friends at all. IN ABSOLUTELY NO WAY IS HE ABSOLVED OF ANY OF THOSE CRIMES! HE HASN'T EVEN ABSOLVED HIMSELF! HE DID NOT CHOOSE TO BECOME A MONSTER DOING FUCKED UP SHIT FOR NO REASON HE WAS IN A DIFFICULT POSITION BECAUSE OF WHAT HE CREATED WITH FREDERICK AND ARIA!! HE PLANS TO KILL HIMSELF IN HIS STRIVE ARCADE MODE FROM THE GUILT! STOP MAKING ME GO TO BAT FOR ASUKA BECAUSE PEOPLE WON'T READ! ALL OF THIS IS ON THE GGWIKI YOU ONLY NEED TO READ 2 OR 3 ENTRIES TO GET THAT BASIC LEVEL OF INFORMATION!! PLEASE!
I linked Asuka here but also seeing the entry for "Japan" will explain the situation. I am. NOT saying. Asuka was right. I AM saying that the idea that this is a wholly Black and White "everything in the world is his fault" situation is a GROSS FLANDERIZATION and oversimplification of what is an EXTREMELY compelling, horrifying, and tragic story of a man paving his way to hell with good intentions and I need. People to stop talking about Asuka or Chaos lore when they're on screen in Strive when they don't know what the hell they're talking about. Please.

Really feel like the new Acolyte show promotes a lot of Jedi criticism, which I really dislike. And it makes not even wanna watch the show. Have you seen it? Do you agree that its promoting a lot of jedi order"hate"? because I think it they are promoting it.
I haven't watched the show, so I can't really speak to whether it's hating on the Jedi or not, sorry. I'm really not the kind of person who keeps up with everything right as it comes out - that sounds exhausting to try to keep up with, honestly! I only just got around to watching the Obi-Wan show recently, actually! (I love it, no complaints aside from Bail's terrible opsec).
I probably won't end up watching The Acolyte. There's so much Star Wars media out there, to me it doesn't make sense to spend time on something I know from the get-go is unlikely to capture the things I actually like about the franchise. I've never been a believer in engaging with something just because it has a franchise label slapped onto it - there's so many better things I can do with my time.
So, that's what I'd recommend to others as well. If you don't want to watch something, don't. Being in fandom can put pressure on you to watch things right away regardless of whether you'd actually enjoy it, just because that's what everyone is talking about at the moment, but chances are the conversation will move on pretty quickly once the next thing is out. I don't really see anyone talking about the Ahsoka show anymore, for instance (didn't watch that one either). And especially with a franchise as large as Star Wars, there's really no shortage of things to enjoy and spend your time with.
#sorry i won't be able to participate in discussions about the show much#i just don't have the context and it doesn't seem worth my while to get it#and like i said i'm not the kind of person that keeps up with things right away#i'm like the guy in xkcd 606#did you guys know that hades game is really fun? I started playing it this week and that's where all my leisure time is going right now

I feel like the imprecise intersection of nonbinary and trans identities is somewhere in between comedy and poetry.
People often ask if being nonbinary makes you trans, and the boring real answer is that some nonbinary people identify as trans and some don't, and no one has to adopt any label they don't want.
But also like... you're asking nonbinary people where they fall on the cis-trans binary. Of fucking course the answer is often "well, y'know, sort of outside of it?" 😂
#personally i lean towards 'not trans but part of the trans community/under the trans umbrella'#though i dont think that really clarified things for my parents lol#sometimes i forget that most people don't have a nuanced (or any) understanding of gender identities#insert that xkcd comic about feldspars or what have you#jess rambles

That behold a square post annoys me cause it ignores half the definition of a square and if you're going to ignore that much of it then all rectangles are squares too, you're not clever for figuring out a way around putting down wrong answers by simply turning in a blank test. This isn't an "I guess" this is a "See me after class you have misunderstood the concept"
#If you cut out enough of the formal definition anything can be anything!#Basically they're taking the 'is a taco a sandwich' question which is barely interesting#And taking it to a realm with formal rules where being wrong about them is extremely easy#Basically what I'm trying to say is that post is on the wrong side of XKCD 169#That's not a parallelogram is the obvious counterpoint anyone who knows what a square is would make#And since all squares are parallelograms we have already lost the plot#It's just coming up with a bad definition and showing that your definition is bad#Mostly I'm annoyed at how much they think they did something#When all they did was fuck up#Not a single mathematician or other math enthusiast could look at that and go 'dang they got us'#instead of 'dang they really thought they had something huh'

*skids into the room and slams a folder down on the table*
SINCE I AM HAVING TIMELINE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS AGAIN, I WANNA ELABORATE ON A THING FROM MY DIAGRAM OF THE MQ/DF/RESET SITUATION BECAUSE IT IS BOUNCING AROUND MY HEAD AND I WANNA INFODUMP ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC ELEMENT OF THIS ABSOLUTE MESS OF A TIMELINE SITUATION (AFFECTIONATE)
SO
I specified in my diagram that “before the Reset is inaccessible by standard means of time travel”. I wanna elaborate on that because I have EXAMPLES. I hope you’re ready to learn precisely how we know that for certain.
1. Clarification of Terms
Okay, so, to be entirely and fully clear here, when I say “before the Reset is inaccessible”, I am referring to intra-timeline time travel. Meaning, from within a Dragonfable timeline, it is impossible to access the Mechquest timeline which became that Dragonfable.
I say “a” because the Artix Entertainment multiverse is A Mess and we know that there are a ton of different versions of all of these timelines. Not only does The Inn At The Edge Of Time tell as much in-game in Dragonfable but AdventureQuestWorlds (relevant here bc we are discussing multiverse) is canonically a result of DF, AQ, and MQ timelines getting merged into one and we know that those timelines all still exist outwith AQW’s existence. For every version of the DF timeline that exists, there is a MQ that preceded it.
However, for sake of clarity, I’ll be using “the” to refer to the DF timeline for the rest of this post, because even if these factors almost certainly apply to all the timelines in terms of mechanics, I am specifically working with The Actual Timeline We Have Experienced (i.e. canon Dragonfable)
The effects of the Reset are, to use a term that @cyraen-ae reminded me exists, retrocausal. If you were to, say, travel back in time five thousand and one years from A Hero Is Born, you would not find yourself in MQ a year before the Reset happened, you would find yourself five thousand and one years in the past of DF. Thus, “before the Reset is inaccessible via intra-timeline time travel in a DF timeline”. (That is too many uses of time related terms right next to each other. I’m going to just say “intra-timeline travel” after this.)
Hopefully that’s clear because I am now moving on to THE EXAMPLES.
We have three specific quests which I will be pointing to today. They are Yulgar’s First Date, Frostval 2014 - A Tale of Two Timelines, and CyseRedux.
2. Intra-Timeline Travel Cannot Access Pre-Reset
We know this because we see it happen.
Hello, Yulgar’s First Date, thank you so much for serving as proof here, I love you for giving us a solid canon example of how this works.
So, during the events of Mechquest, the hero is fully grown. Whether they’re in their late teens, early twenties, or older than that, it doesn’t really matter. The signficant detail is that they are clearly and visibly Not A Child. The hero had a childhood in the MQ timeline and was Not A Child at the time of the Reset. They are Not A Child in the fixed point in time. The hero enters the DF timeline as Not A Child and, if we looked at this purely linearly, was never a child within DF.
But! As mentioned earlier, the Reset was retrocausal. The hero did have a childhood that, as far as they or anyone else can know, they experienced in the DF timeline.
In Yulgar’s First Date, Cysero gives the hero some Time Cake to allow them to travel twenty years back in time. This also equips the Kid armour. While it’s possible that this is a random side effect (it is Cysero, after all), Occam’s Razor would suggest that this is just the age the hero was twenty years ago.
And since we know that the Reset took five thousand years to complete and only ended at the start of Book One, we know that this specific point in time is one in which the Reset would have been on-going, if it were accessible.
So! Intra-timeline travel cannot access the Reset or reality as it existed before it.
3. Wait, But Then, What About The Times MQ Did Show Up Via Time Stuff?
I’M GLAD YOU ASKED. THE ANSWER IS SHENANIGANS.
To be specific, the two instances in which MQ related stuff shows up from Time Stuff are instances of non-standard time travel. One is explicitly inter-timeline (multiple timelines are involved) and the other is...... Cysero Did It (and is also inter-timeline. They are both inter-timeline. Though the inter-timelineness of the latter may not be relevant.)
So, A Tale of Two Timelines. The Artix of an AQW timeline (we do not know if he was canon AQW) got a wand off of a Time Travel Fairy and promptly started trying to bring different timelines together so all the heroes could hang out at Frostval. He also destabilised a bunch of timelines because he was merging them together. During these timeline merges, a bunch of MQ stuff showed up, including various characters having elements of their MQ appearances for periods of time.
However, as established, this was a case of timelines being merged together and, also as established, there is more than one MQ timeline.
Therefore, this was not the before-the-Reset of the Dragonfable timeline being brought forth but rather a separate MQ timeline being brought in.
And that brings us to CyseRedux, in which Sys-Zero shows up in person and shares a bunch of nods with Cysero. This would suggest that they are aware that they are the same person. However, this quest also features Blatant Breaking Of AE Multiversal Rules and Four Other Cyseros, so there’s A Lot Going On.
So. Here’s the thing. CyseRedux features DF Cysero, AQ Cysero, AQW Cysero, Sys-Zero, and Actual Real Life Staff Cysero In A Background Cameo.
It is explicit AE Multiverse Lore that there cannot be more than one instance of a person in a timeline at a time. If you jump to another timeline, your counterpart gets yanked to your timeline until you return. This comes up in A Tale of Two Timelines, for a DF source, but also comes up in the AQW Mirror World plotlines.
CyseRedux is a case of Cysero blatantly and flagrantly breaking this rule. Because Cysero gets to break any and all rules of reality as he wishes and it’s great.
Which means that we have two options here. The AQ and AQW Cyseros are from other, separate timelines. So it would be logical that the Sys-Zero who shows up is also from a separate MQ timeline. However, he could be from the DF timeline’s pre-Reset MQ, without it presenting a problem to the impossibility of intra-timeline travel across the Reset, because Cysero is already breaking the rules.
4. Conclusion
I just infodumped to you for over a thousand words about timeline mechanics in a bunch of indie flash-based video games and it is currently past four in the morning in my timezone. I have Special Interest Brain so badly.
#dragonfable#I really need to get around to having a specific Reset tag#.....actually you know what there's a tag I haven't used for a while that belongs here#tmae overanalyses dragonfable#*looks at This Whole Thing* I've been out of university for a year and a half and apparently I miss academia#oh boy I hope linking to cite my sources doesn't stop this showing in the tag#I specified about the counterpart-timeline-swap thing bc I didn't want to sound like the geochemists in that one xkcd#okay now that I've got this out of my system I am CHECKING OUT FOR THE NIGHT#TIME TO USE THE SLEEP#oh wait midnight happened#happy disability pride month everybody here's me being Extremely Autistic

There are so many well-meaning conservatives around here who just assume global warming is only presented as a moral issue for political reasons.
Playing Devil's Advocate to Win [Explained]
Transcript Under the Cut
[Cueball is standing under a large amount of text said in one go.] Cueball: Yes, from the evidence it looks pretty likely to me that we're causing global warming on a horrific scale. But with science you don't need to argue. It doesn't matter who wins the debate — it's about reality. By just waiting a little longer, we'll get to see who was right. It feels unethical but I find myself wanting to keep quiet about the science just to know for sure. As terrible as it sounds, the state of the world isn't really my responsibility. I'm just thrilled to get to watch. If the scientists are right — and if we keep people from understanding just a little longer — we'll enjoy quite a ride. And pragmatically, on the outside chance that they're all wrong, I get saved the embarrassment of having spoken up.
