The costume thing bothers me bc it shows Tommy not caring about Buck’s interests. Buck clearly put a lot of time and effort into the bachelor party, and Tommy not even trying to dress up stands in stark contrast to Eddie a) coming up with matching costumes, b) showing up early, and c) matching Bucks enthusiasm at every single turn.

I looked at it kind of how I’d view evaluating a friend’s new significant other. Seeing all the little things that probably wouldn’t be a big deal but they trigger your spidey senses bc you know that friend. You know what makes them tick and what matters to them, and you’re seeing this new person in their life not meeting them at every turn. For me, it’s not that Tommy is inherently a bad person (begins episodes aside) in Buck’s relationship but it’s very clear through the storytelling and all the little things like the costumes that he’s a bad fit for Buck specifically.

I have other feelings on Tommy’s role in the OG 118 and such that may lean towards not so great person, haha, but I’m talking here specifically about his relationship with Buck and the lack of effort he’s putting in at every turn. Not just the bachelor party but also the dinner scene, even the first date.

Yeah, I feel with that one for sure. Like, I feel all types of ways about their first date and the assumption that Buck is not ready just because he's afraid to come out to his best friend, but while I think Tommy could've handled the situation better, I think he was justified in being annoyed so I tend to give him some grace during 705. But there was literally no reason why he couldn't just, put on a colorful shirt or jacket. It's just dismissive to such a degree. Buck is going full clipboard Buck trying to make sure everything is perfect and then in comes this guy who couldn't even be bothered to try. Not even a little bit. No effort. He flew Eddie to fucking Vegas and couldn't put on a shirt????? That scene is legit the biggest red flag when applied to Buck and the way he works. If I was in Buck's shoes and I didn't have Eddie matching my energy, I would've been crying by the end of the night. It's the little things, yk? And that was so unnecessarily dismissive.

And I'm also with you on the having feeling about Tommy during the begins episodes but even ignoring that, that scene still makes my blood boil. No effort whatsoever. None. And it would've been so so so easy to indulge Buck there.

Legit I think the telegony undermines a significant amount of what makes the odyssey so compelling.

i have a lot of mixed opinions about the telegony. on one hand - give my man a break ffs. allow him to finally live in peace with his family. but on the other - there is something about the idea that odysseus never truly finds peace and that trouble always follows him even when he thinks he's escaped it. always scorned by the fates.

i just think that there are other ways to show that concept other than the "illegitimate son unknowingly killing him" thing.
