4... see, the most important part of a fishing minigame isnt the minigame itself, but the rest of the game around it. so this is kinda difficult. id mention a bunch of examples but.. it got kinda long, so lets skip to the punch, yah?

a short hike has the best fishing minigame ive seen. the minigame itself is simple, just mash a, and it's hard to fail, but the fun comes in with trying to find out where each type of fish lives.. you end up trying every little spot of water on the island, and finding rarer and rarer variants! its just a fun time (also once you find one of each fish you can talk to the fisherman on the boat and get a gold fishing rod which finds rare variants easier)

i think it’s very disappointing how much i see mae drawn skinny. the majority of nitw art i see depicts her as such, despite her describing herself as round in game. it’s a dialogue option that you literally can’t miss since the mirror scene is unavoidable

you can choose the other option, but you still see this one regardless of what you pick. mae is ROUND. this means she is NOT skinny. i guess some would argue that because her arms and legs are smaller that she is, but that’s literally just because of the game’s artstyle. EVERYONE is depicted that way, so it doesn’t change the fact that she is fat

another piece of dialogue describes her as “sturdy.” being a chubby person myself, this is literally what my mom called me when i was little. it’s really upsetting to see a character i love and relate to so much misrepresented this way when she is canonically built like me. it’s already rare to see good representation of fat people, so erasing the ones we get doesn’t help

next time you draw mae please try to keep this in mind. and to everyone who draws mae chubby already, i love you forever and always. thank you

characters that disappear before the story begins and then proceed to haunt the narrative silently. you as the audience don't even quite feel like there's something missing until someone in story points it out. there's a few flaws, cracks, etc, melodies that keep playing in certain situations that have an odd sense of importance you can't quite place, characters that feel not quite whole or like a piece of them is missing, the lost character's name being brought up and it sending shivers down your spine. until suddenly, you learn. you learn of their fate. and you WEEP because HOLY SHIT. my BABY what did they DO to you.

capitalist-centric horror/corporate horror is such an interesting concept to me. like, the idea of taking something that is so (unfortunately) mundane in many people's lives in our current societal landscape and either perverting it or amplifying all aspects of it to create a horror experience is just so beautiful to me.

games like night in the woods (which technically isn't horror but is still relevant as a game creating a psychologically horrific atmosphere for the point of commenting on capitalism's effects), lethal company, night of the consumers, employee of the month (great game i rlly recommend), mouthwashing, happy's humble burger farm, yuppie psycho and MANY more games that don't fit neatly under a specific category outside of a general conception of what "horror games" are.

those kinds of things are fascinating because of the way they combine traditional "horror" (scary monsters, jumpscares, blood and gore) with the stress caused by something like a normal 9-5 at a corporate office, or the concept of working conditions at a packing plant.

it makes you think about how normalized the conditions we as humans exist in, and how despite that people are calling out that normalcy, whether simply through setting and plot or specifically through intention and subtext. it's definitely a genre of game that i'm excited to see more from and something i really want to think more about

Oh Makeupbrush, you awful woman that I love (and hate)

Here are some drawings of her, both human and object. And one of the siblings. I love my past au and nothing will stop me from making content of it!

Anyway, lore undercut. It gets angsty

I'm gonna summarize (yes this is the story summarize lol)

Makeupbrush (Persephone in human) met Paint Can (Pierre) at work. He was her boss. She loved him for the security and money he provided. But he started to realize he didn't feel the same and wanted to leave her. She couldn't have that and essentially baby trapped him (she got pregnant on purpose so he couldn't leave)

They got married and had Paintbrush (who in human was named after their mother, but goes by Percy). MB quit her job to raise her child. 6 years later had Paint Palette (named after his father)

Now, Paint Bucket had terrible anger issues that he would often take out on his wife and kids (verbally). But when Paintbrush was 14, he abandoned them. Then PB ran away at 17 and never looked back

Fun fact: in this au bfdi and ii are in the same universe. PB gets their fire ability from their mother, it skipped a generation, but she got it from her family. Somewhere down the line she and PB are related to Match from bfdi (or it was Firey but I don't remember lol)

Makeupbrush tried to understand Paintbrush but she couldn't. She grew up in a toxic religious family, and their beliefs had been drilled into her since day 1. And she did the same to her kids. She was a "It's just a phase" kinda mom.

Paintbrush didn't try to come out to their family until they were older, so their father has no idea and never will. They don't know what his reaction would've been.

Paint Palette was supportive though

Painty's backstory is inspired by a few different backstories. First off, they take a little inspiration from Bea from NITW, not too much tho. There's Grace from Infinity Train. And finally the song Our Word from 36 Questions

Too many to name.

1. Figuring out poses is the hardest for me, since I have difficulty imagining the right positioning + anatomy without some help. I heavily rely on references to get the vibes just right, especially for hands and perspective.

2. I can't say my taste in music is for everyone haha! I think it's clear from the two playlists I've made for Mushroom Oasis. But! Here's my little genre sandwich from Spotify Wrapped? I can't say it's super accurate since I listen to a bunch of alt, ska and jazz too but oh well.

I might've ruined my sandwich when I kept listening to NITW and Utopia's soundtracks nonstop and back-to-back while working for hours this year but uh, have it:

I think it’s safe to say that my favorite skeleton isn’t exactly someone who gets as anxious as I do about literally every little thing ( quite the opposite ^^” ) , but even though we might be different on this aspect I like to imagine that JB would still do his best to help out : 

I feel like he’d try to cheer me up with his puns , making me laugh with his comments  about him “kicking my anxiety’s ass” while holding me in his arms , his warmth making my troubles seem very far away for at least some time … yeah , imagining Jaw Bone being soft and gentle in these situations honestly makes my heart melt :’//] 💚💚

Oh Bea … she’s truly a sweetheart ❣️

Considering the way she was there for Mae after all she has been through during the last chapter of NITW , I’m 100% sure that she would handle my anxiety episodes with the upmost patience and care : 

I can imagine her helping me lay down on my bed , quietly listening to my worries while holding my hands to keep me grounded … Bea is just really tender deep down , and I know she would do an amazing job with helping me calm down and rationalize the situation :) 💕

“It’s okay to be worried , you don’t have to feel ashamed … know that I’ll be there for you no matter what .” 

✨ The Godseeker 

I imagine that the Godseeker would be a little unsure of how to help in this scenario : having lived in her own dreams for such a long time I don’t think she has had many opportunities to talk to other people , so her inner response to seeing me being so anxious would probably be something like “Oh no … oh gods … what shall I do now … ?” 

However , that doesn’t mean that she isn’t going to try ! 

I can picture the Godseeker sitting next to me , slowly leaning her head on my shoulder and using her soothing humming to help me relax … knowing how much I like her voice she would definitely use it in these cases ^^ ❣️

🧁 Baroness Von Bon Bon 

Similarly to the Godseeker , Bon Bon would also be someone who doesn’t have much experience with helping others with such things , considering that she’s been trapped in Sugarland all on her own for god knows how long … 

I feel like she would help me sit somewhere comfortable , handing me a warm cup of my favorite tea and gently caressing my hair while I speak : I just picture the Baroness as someone who would do anything to put my mind at ease and see me return happy after taking my time to recover :D 💕

finished nitw and mae was relatable in a way that i didn't like. 10/10 game love mae

also fascinated by its like, uncomfortable nostalgia? i guess? idk, i don't have words so i'm just gonna give you colors and they are bright, saturated oranges mixed with soft yellows and blues. which i guess is kinda just the main color palette of the game. anyway also like uneven rectangles and squiggly lines.
