i used to be so good at writing strong, thoroughly-researched, thoroughly-edited essays.

as a kid in hs, my teacher literally came up to me, holding my 40 page essay on the intersection of the European witch hunts and capitalism/exploitation/gender roles (it was supposed to be 7 pages...whoops) and went like "this is literally a master's-degree level thesis. what are you doing?? you could literally use this as your final dissertation in a master's program, what the fuck."

The contemporary corporate culture around mental health awareness/support is so fucking agonising. It's like this play-acting of social responsibility by forcing people to sit through empty platitudes and useless advice written by and for bougie fucks whose greatest mental health issue is feeling a little stressed before their monthly performance review. To add injury to insult, many of the institutions pushing this stuff the hardest are the ones most responsible for the material conditions that actually cause or exacerbate so many mental health problems. Like having decent working conditions or reliable access to housing is gonna improve mental health a lot more than breathing exercises and mindfulness.

I remember discussing Tintin casting choices with a friend from Germany and remarked how it was odd he often has an English accent in adaptations rather than a Belgian one, and my friend just replied "that's because Tintin gives incredibly strong English boy energy (derogatory)"

Here in the UK there's a lot of weird classism tied into accents. Today accent diversity and representation in broadcasting is actively pursued but in Tintin's time there certainly was a preferred accent to have.

I will often tell people about my unconditional love for the rain and they in response almost always say something along the lines of how they also love the rain but only if they can stay indoors and I just have to say. This might be unreasonable. But no. You and i are not the same. Our love for rain and thunder differs greatly, and frankly, it is INSULTING to suggest otherwise!! I will walk an hour in the pouring rain, soaked to the bone and STILL i will not hold it against the raindrops for they are not at fault for falling from the sky just as i am under it. I will STILL wonder at the sound of the rain even whilst bearing it on top of my unhooded head. I will REGARDLESS of the cold i will undoubtedly get, marvel at the way the rain makes everything look like an oil painting and how the concrete looks shiny, how it makes the air smell so sweet after it ends so even when it no longer rains there is still something lingering behind. You will cowardly hide inside your home if you can and only venture out in the rain if you must and if you do you will berate the same sweet sweet rain you claim to love as much as i do. You and I are not the same. Never forget.

not to say that psych doesnt have continuity errors bc it absolutely does (as is the natural case with any weekly cable show that ran for eight years) but id argue that it gets away with a lot more than its peers bc of the fact that its main character is a professional liar. 70% of the stuff that comes out of shawns mouth is either an objective falsehood or total nonsense made up for the bit. when he wants you to think hes smart hes smart and when he wants you to think hes stupid hes stupid and when it is even slightly funnier to lie than to tell the truth, he will absolutely pick door number one, every time
