F1 Fans, We Need to Talk About What Happened After the Race

Okay guys, this is going to be long, but I can’t stop thinking about it and I really need to talk to someone about it.

After the race, Max goes to get weighed. As soon as he returns to his P2 stand, MBS comes over to talk to him. Max hasn’t even set his helmet down, and you can already tell MBS is pissing him off. Max looks visibly annoyed. Right after, he heads straight over to talk to Charles. You can see him walking away from MBS with his eyes locked on Charles.

Charles turns to Max, and they have this quiet, kind of awkward exchange. It really seems like they both want to say more but can’t. Charles asks Max about the penalty, and Max just nods—he doesn’t say a word. I think they were both super aware of the cameras on them, and Max probably couldn’t say what he really wanted to. Charles definitely picks up on Max’s silence too. Usually, those two debrief a bit more after a race.

Charles then puts his watch back on, and Max returns to the P2 stand while Oscar is doing his interview with DC. That’s when MBS approaches Max again. I couldn’t really catch Max’s body language because F1TV stayed focused on Oscar’s interview, but something was definitely off.

Then Max goes to give his own interview—and it’s clear he’s angry. He keeps it super short, and Charles looks visibly surprised when it’s his turn.

The cooldown room was awkward. Charles and Oscar tried to keep the conversation going, but Max was clearly in his head. He laughed at their jokes a bit, but he still seemed really defeated.

On the podium, Max looked depressed when he walked out. And side note—did anyone else notice Charles squirming during the anthems? He looked dizzy for a second, like he might pass out. I was genuinely worried he wasn’t okay. I think that’s also why he didn’t spray Oscar as much—he might’ve been feeling sick.

And Max didn’t spray anyone either. He deliberately stepped aside to avoid it and stayed in the background. I honestly didn’t think he was even going to stick around for the photo. He did congratulate both Oscar and Charles with a bottle clink, which I thought was really respectful.

So, in conclusion: I don’t think Max is upset with Charles or Oscar at all. In all his interviews, he praised Oscar. I genuinely believe MBS said something threatening to Max in parc fermé. While I agree Max deserved the penalty or should’ve given the position back, I don’t agree with drivers being silenced.

The FIA is supposed to be a governing body that protects the drivers and enforces the rules fairly. How can they do that if they can’t even handle criticism? Max doesn’t deserve hate just because he’s not allowed to speak his mind. The drivers can’t speak up against the FIA, but we, as fans, can.

I don’t know what we can do exactly, but I do know we need to do something.

Finarfin Fades.

No one expects it, no one’s faded in Valinor since Miriel. The War of Wrath is won and he comes back, waving off the courtiers, well wishers, and congratulators with his usual grace, and walks into the palace of Tirion. To rooms abandoned since their owners left so long ago. Winding deeper and deeper his feet take him to what was once Finwë’s favourite garden.

He’s so tired.

He’s fulfilled his promise to Fëanaro and Nolofinwë, to avenge them. To make the agony of their final moments - agony Finarfin felt, falling to the floor screaming as fire and darkness consumed his spirit - count for something. Now Morgoth is finally gone, but he’s not the only one.

His brothers, larger than life, larger than death, are gone. With them his sons. Niece. Nephews. Grandchildren. His daughter is never to return. He Saw little Nelyo’s death in his dreams and is sure hopes for the child’s own sake that Makalaurë will be close behind.

Little remains. Even less on these golden shores.

So Finarfin sits on a bench long overgrown with vines and weeds, and watches the sun filter through the thicket, wishing the ghosts he sees in his father’s garden would flesh out.

He sits. He waits.

And by the time anyone finds him, it’s too late.

…at least he’s smiling again.

A Steddie break-up fic where Steve, hopeless romantic Steve, is in a whirlwind romance with Eddie. And Eddie who finally gets his big break and plans to leave Hawkins in the rear view. It starts slowly, just little things Steve doesn't take to heart: Eddie getting distracted in the middle of a cuddle session or a kiss or even sex, Eddie pulling away quicker (but he's still loving on Steve so he doesn't really care), maybe cancelling more on their date nights or claiming that he's got plans already made with the Corroded Coffin boys.

And then the space between them just gets bigger and bigger and bigger, and Steve is left behind in the dust. Abandoned again. He's always looking to Eddie, but Eddie's not looking back. They're arguing more. There's a knot, a strain weighing on their relationship.

When Steve begins to pull back, Eddie barely puts in the effort to keep him tethered. And Steve, gullible and hopeless romantic Steve, lets Eddie get away with it. Because any attention is better than none. Even if he's going to bed alone every night, waking up to a going cold space beside him. Even if he's biting his fist during an argument, saving the tears for a quick shower. Even if he has to choke back on his emotions, because any big outbursts he thinks will push Eddie further away. Will spiral them out farther.

But then Eddie just abruptly leaves. Leaves their life, their friends, Hawkins as a whole. And Steve has to get his number through Wayne, who thought the boys were still together.

And it's not until Eddie answers with a, "Hello? Oh—hold on, babe, somebody's on the phone," that Steve finally puts two and two together. They aren't even dating anymore. He hangs up before say anything.

Eddie's left with the distant sound of somebody breathing on the other side and the dial tone. Never to hear from Steve again.

I would find Blondie Lockes very annoying in real life, but I love her in fiction. She's a genuinely good journalist in terms of both skill and ethical integrity, who only occasionally forgets to check the facts because she's fifteen and holds herself accountable when she does. She has incredibly high standards for everything and believes herself to be the ultimate authority on quality. She has magical lockpicking powers because her fairytale is about Goldilocks breaking into a house. She somehow completely ignores the story's moral that Goldilocks was wrong to break into the house, feels entitled to go wherever and help herself to whatever she's able to and cannot comprehend why people dislike this. She's been terrorizing an anthropomorphic bear family with her cheerful disrespect for privacy and is convinced that they love her. She has a non-anthropomorphic pet baby bear. Her motivation is dependence on external approval rooted in deeply internalized classism. She's desperate to be useful and important to those with higher social status and feels the need to lie that her family is technically royalty to fit in with her royal friends, even though they treat commoners like equals all the time. She positions herself as a conduit of true greatness; closer to it than the masses, but never the hero, always reporting on other people and evaluating what they've done. Because what she's done isn't enough to be worthwhile. What she is isn't enough. But this performative lifestyle makes her anxious about being judged as a fraud and an interloper, and ashamed of selfishly transgressing against social norms. Her microphone head looks like an adorable little bear head. That's one hex of a character alright.

what was the point of lila thinking home was a feeling she didn't deserve and could never earn until she found diego. what was the point of them finding deep, meaningful love in each other. what was the point of lila opening her heart and confessing that all she really wanted was a family with him.

what was the point of developing diego and lila over two seasons, creating such a beautiful, chaotic bond, just to destroy it for no reason.

Penelope could easily be painted as the damsel yearning for her lover, the woman without much agency waiting for her husband to come home (which of course we all know she isn't, she is a literal and metaphorical queen), and in a lesser story*) she might have been cast into that stereotype. I think that is why I love her almost yelling "You're mine" at Odysseus in WYFILWMA.

It is so possessive and decisive, ruling out any "buts". It perfectly underlines her steadfastness, her loyalty, her agency. She claims Odysseus as hers without question once she knows it is really him, that he is finally back home. She is seemingly offended that Odysseus even suggests that she might not accept him after how much he has changed. (She will make her own mind up about that, thank you very much, and said mind has been made up for 20 years btw)

It is not only that Odysseus has come home and now she chooses him. No, she has been choosing him over and over and over for the past 20 years with every action she took. It is not him coming back that now puts her in the position to choose him - it only reveals that choice, that there never was another choice other than Odysseus. Which leads me to my honorable mention:

Ody: "[...] You’ve been waiting for love."

Pen: "I've been waiting for you."

Penelope definitely had a surplus of suitors (108) and even if their motives might have been questionable, she could have easily found a new husband if that was what she wanted, maybe even one that genuinely loved her. But Penelope's love is Odysseus. Love for her is synonymous with him. No one else is even worth considering, she would rather be alone or even die before she gives any other man the time of day.

tldr; I love love LOVE the wording in WYFILWMA, how it shows how Penelope is just not taking this shit from her husband. She knows what she wants and that is Odysseus, even if it is not the original model but the slightly banged up version, the heavily traumatized, now with grey hairs probably, war criminal, ruthless god torturer version of her husband.

Because he is still her husband, goddamn it.

thank you daniel (2011-2024) - no regrets, only memories.

to say goodbye to daniel within f1 still feels wrong. it will never be an easy pill to swallow. it is one dream unfulfilled, but a multitude of many other dreams achieved. i feared i would look back at the memories of daniel and feel that they would forever be tainted moving forward, but to remember all the joy, is to realise every moment was worth it. to look at these pictures, any pictures, of daniel, puts a lump in my throat, but also makes me want to smile from ear to ear. it was a pleasure to tune in every race weekend since the middle of 2021, and feel the nerves and the anxiety and the excitement that were probably only a fraction of what he felt. i'll forever wish he, we, had more. but each and every moment we did get was wonderful. and i cherish each and every one of them, as i'm sure he does. he deserved more. he deserved a proper goodybe. he deserved everything. but it's okay it wasn't that way. everything he had was beautiful. to whatever's next 🥂
