Assigning you a celestial entity...
sun
the sun serves as the lifeforce of our solar system. similarly you are the lifeforce of so many of those around you. people love being in your presence just to bask in your warmth. your heat is not selfish—it is non-discriminatory and kind and radiates outwards. you are bright and steady like seeing a friend and bursting out into simultaneous smiles or a hug that perfectly envelopes you. you are good at caring for people. you check up on them and are sensitive to their wellbeings. you know what makes them laugh and what makes them cry. you have a spot for every occasion and somehow know exactly what to say for every situation. you are a comforting heat like opening the oven to freshly baked bread, diving into a warm car from the cold, or sitting directly in a sunbeam on a fall day. you are a righteous blaze—the kind that stands up for their friends. the kind that defends those who need it and even those who think they don’t. you are a brilliant sunset washing everything in beautiful, impossible shades—a brand new gift every evening. you sometimes have a tendency to over-commit yourself and then struggle to follow through. you can’t be there for everyone all at once. on top of that, because you’re so good at sustaining people, you can forget to sustain yourself. even the sun sets every night. you are not Atlas—it is not your job to hold up the sky. there’s nothing wrong with taking some time to recharge. it's only natural and much better than burning out. take care of yourself, not just for other people but because you deserve to be cared for. you are genuine and brave—a righteous knight. you are a big, bright soul that makes everyone’s lives better just by being in it. people are drawn to you because of how full you make them feel. you are an awesome, beautiful blend of power, comfort, and benevolence.
#this is incredibly funny and also wrong which is why it's funny#it applies exclusively to pokemon#humans do not get this side of lance#hasty steps i can't retrace <dash games>

the dustox thing
Okay I'm gonna stop being sassy for a minute and actually talk about this because i dont want people to actually get angry at me. Anyone who is capable of raising a wurmple into a beautifly is capable of raising and managing a dustox. I am not saying this out of malice or contempt, this is basically fact. Let me explain. First things first, wurmple evolve extremely quickly. You barely have to do any training before they build their cocoon, and it's usually only a week or two before they emerge. Despite what some people seem to think, bug pokemon like this don't just lose their survival instincts when you feed them for a little bit. In fact, that's EXACTLY what we do for endangered pokemon. You take in some newborns, protect and raise them, and then set them free. That's like... the entire thing that zoos do. Did you guys's elementary schools not do that thing where you raise some caterpie? Secondly, dustox care is shockingly easily, especially relative to Beautifly. Dustox eat a diet entirely consisting of tree leaves. Unless you live in an area filled entirely with trees that are toxic to bug pokemon, you're not gonna have a hard time raising one. Beautifly actually require a TON of care, because they eat pollen and nectar - which requires a substantial flower population to maintain - and they can get injured if you look at them the wrong way. (Seriously, look at some beauty contest fails online. It's kind of pathetic.) And finally, the poison dust thing. The petalburg woods are filled with hundreds if not thousands of dustox. The petalburg woods are also an extremely common place for children to explore and encounter wild pokemon. Do you know what would make those things completely incompatible? If dustox could poison kids to death just by flying by them. Dustox poison is there to deter predators. Unless youre eating a handful of the stuff (which yes, some teens do and it sends them to the hospital) you aren't going to be hurt by it. So no, a kid who catches a wurmple trying to get a beautifly isn't at risk of death just because the cocoon was purple rather than white. In conclusion, stop catching wurms because you want the flying thing with a bunch of colors. Know what you're doing when you catch a pokemon to raise, and if it matters that much to do just catch a silcoon or fully evolved beautifly.
#pokemon husbandry#pkmn#pokemon#pokeblog rp#pokeblogging#pokeblr#wurmple#silcoon#cascoon#beautifly#dustox#And before anyone gets on my case about some things i said - obviously this doesnt apply to other ACTUALLY DANGEROUS poison types or#to split evolutions that have really seriously different care requirements. i am talking exclusively about Beautifly and Dustox#I work with these pokemon every day#im sorry to people from other regions who think they know what theyre talking about but just because the book says the word poison#that doesnt mean its gonna kill everything it touches

in case you were wondering how things went down at the pokemon world championships this weekend:
-during the top 8 of the TCG masters division, chilean player fernando cifuentes was running a gimmick deck that consisted exclusively of four iron thorns ex and a whole ton of control-focused trainer cards in a strategy that either completely shuts down opponents or shits the bed entirely
-through skillful play and some good luck, fernando made it through 2 days in a tournament with over 1100 players to get to the quarterfinals
-fernando lost 2-0 to ian robb, who was running regidrago vstar (widely considered one of the best decks in the current format)
-in an overexuberant victory celebration, ian did what can only be described as a jacking-off gesture, on a stream with tens of thousands of viewers run by a company with very firm player conduct expectations
-the judges determined that this warranted a penalty of game loss, but for some reason, rather than applying it to ian’s next game in the semifinals, they applied it to the one he had just won in the top 8
-(it should be noted that the prize money for making top 8 is $15k while top 4 is $20k, so this jerking gesture cost ian robb $5,000)
-nearly an hour after fernando came to terms with his loss and the end of an impressive run, he was told that he was to get back on stream because he’s now playing in the semifinals due to winning by default
-the player he was up against in the semifinals was playing a deck (miraidon) that happens to get shut down hard by iron thorns’s gimmick, so fernando wins the semifinals
-said player, jesse parker, had notably had an undefeated run throughout the whole tournament up to this point, and likely would have continued that streak had his intended semifinal opponent not gotten a game loss penalty for miming a lewd act on stream
-meanwhile, the other semifinal winner is japan’s seinosuke shiokawa, running a deck (roaring moon) that players had largely written off as underwhelming months ago
-the grand finals are on the following day, so saturday evening was abuzz with a lot of people baffled by the absurdity of the situation
-come sunday afternoon, the grand finals are set to begin, with fernando cifuentes running iron thorns and seinosuke shiokawa running roaring moon
-it should be noted here that the roaring moon deck doesn’t rely very much on abilities, so iron thorns’s gimmick has very little effect - this is basically an even matchup
-fernando wins the first game of the set, and seinosuke wins the second
-the third and final game of the set is a bonafide cheek-clencher, with both players reaching a state where a single KO will win the game, but fernando manages to clinch it at the last minute
-and that’s the story of how a guy pretending to jork it led to the first instance of a pokemon world champion who also lost the quarterfinals
#i know i love reading about niche drama in things i don’t care about#so now it’s my turn to provide that for all of you

Fellow KHUX fans talk about this all the time I imagine, but it really can not be overstated how impressive and cool the meta narrative elements of KHX/KHUX are.
Not going to list them all here, but the most mind-blowing one for me personally: the fact that the devs looked at how browser KHX was being remade/ported to phones and said "What if the porting process was actually canon to the story? What if KHX is the real, original world and KHUX is the data copy of it?" And much like any porting process, the copy isn't completely identical to the original, which is represented in the game by gameplay things like medals replacing cards, or plot things like the Keyblade War being erased from the Dandelions' memories. (You could even argue that each game ending its services coincided with the world ending in the story.)
What's even more wild is that unless you played/watched KHX yourself or read up on KHX, the meta aspect of this particular plot point would likely fly right over your head (as it did mine, at first, as someone who back in the day avoided KHX in favor of waiting for an English release). And that probably applies to a large portion of the global playerbase since KHX was a JP exclusive game. Such an unbelievably cool and novel concept for a plot point...and yet its very existence is so obscure!
Anyway, this is partially why I have faith in KHML being cool/interesting, if nothing else. I'm fairly confident that the GPS-based gameplay wasn't chosen on a whim or to jump on a bandwagon (I don't think Pokemon GO has been new/trendy for a while now), but rather because it's going to be relevant to the plot in a meta way. Likely having to do with the connection between fiction and reality, between our world and the world of KH.

i been following for a while, I love your blog! I wanted to share my collectionn :3
my n2ds is my main console for games, which is funny because its my least favorite 3ds console because I heard its hard to repair (☹️). not a fan of the colors and not to mention the bumpy surface on the top. And there is no hole for charms like the others! what gives !!! hehe it has the pokémon super mystery dungeon theme that was exclusive to preorder bonuses of the game in Japan applied though, so all it well. i always carry it around with me in sleep mode during my daily walks. i originally hacked it for play coins for streetpass mii plaza
The one on the right is my n3ds. Definitely my favorite console i wish the usa version wasnt so hard to get 💔. it also has the psmd face plates <3
okay okay i got this i got this
from Left to Right: midnight purple o3DS black + turquoise n2DSXL white DS lite white n3DS (with pokemon mystery dungeon shell) black DS lite (broken) blue DSi
I have to agree with the 2DS stuff, I really hate the texture of it!! It's so bumpy augh. the n3DS has a similar look but thankfully the texture isn't as bad. It's still there, but less prominent.
I love the variety in your collection!! It's really nice. I'm curious as to your thoughts about getting both the n2DSXL and the n3DS, since they are pretty similar in specs.
#The only reason why I'd get an n2DSXL is because im a collector. though it is lighter than an n3DSXL so.#asks#midnight purple o3DS#black + turquoise n2dsxl#white DS lite#white n3DS#black DS lite#blue DSi#3ds inspo#3ds post

Pokemon Emerald Retrospective, from the perspective of a first-time mainline Pokemon player
To preface this, before playing Emerald, I had very, very scarcely played mainline Pokemon. I played about 40 minutes of Soulsilver back in 2013, and played Legends Arceus and Violet to the credits in 2022, but not much else.
My passion lies with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I played Rescue Team DX, Explorers of Sky, Gates to Infinity, and Super all in a row back in late 2020, and I've been obsessed with them ever since. You can find my retrospectives on those if you look back on my blog.
So why play mainline?
To put it simply, some of my friends were doing it, and I wanted to do it.
A friend of mine boldly proclaimed that they would play every single mainline Pokemon game without reusing any Pokemon species. I decided to challenge myself to do a less strenuous challenge: play one mainline game for every mainline Pokemon region, but I can't use a guide. If I get stuck, I have to ask my friends for advice.
And so, I started Emerald. Why start with Emerald and not Firered? I don't quite remember. But it's where I started.
My first impressions were...rough.
It was slow, clunky, and a lot of stuff I was accustomed to through PMD, Legends Arceus, and Violet, simply weren't there.
Then I got the running shoes, and stuff began to pick up.
I picked Treecko, and named him Apoyime after my PMD Explorers protagonist. With his help, I was able to defeat Roxanne in one fell swoop, thanks to rock's grass weakness.
I caught two more Pokemon on the way there, a Zigzagoon I named Mavy, after the character from Quenched Torch, written by my best friend Sudmensch, and a Tailow I named Tilio.
With them, I made it through Granite Cave, and managed to do it without Flash! I also caught an Aron and named her Serald.
Brawly was more difficult than Roxanne, but thanks to Tilio, I managed to defeat him too.
Then there was Wattson.
Wattson was brutally difficult. I could often get to his Magneton, but every time I did, my team got curbstomped.
It was here that I started seeing the cracks in Emerald again.
You see, Emerald's EXP Share is extremely easy to miss, and doesn't apply EXP to the whole party. Instead, it just splits it between the Pokemon that participated...and one, single other Pokemon, that has to have the EXP Share as a held item.
I really, really hate grinding in games.
So, I visited the Game Corner, and tried to gamble my way to a Flamethrower TM for Mavy.
Even with using savestates for this specific occasion, though, it was a bust. The roulette tables were far too slow, and the slot machines were rigged.
So, I sighed, and decided to ride back and forth on my bike in front of the daycare in order to make number go up.
After hours of this, I managed to get my team up to a large enough level that I could finally, finally beat Wattson.
I decided to take a break for a few months after that ordeal, and resumed my playthrough in January.
And then, there were the HMs.
Before this, I didn't understand why everyone hates HMs so much. Now, I very much do understand why.
HMs force you to reserve either a party member slot for a Pokemon exclusively dedicated to HMs, or to use up move slots on your Pokemon on these moves that are often completely useless in battle.
I sighed, caught a Poochyena for Rock Smash, and named her Hiova.
I pressed onwards, fighting Team Magma atop Mount Chimney, then fighting Flannery in Lavaridge.
Flannery was also very difficult. I had to grind a bit more in order to defeat her, and at this point my patience was wearing thin. I was considering abandoning the marathon at this point.
Not helping this was the fact that the game was very unclear about where to go next. I thought I had to travel through the Route 111, but it was a dead end with nothing but the Mirage Tower.
I did catch a Trapinch here, though, and named her Raga after the Flygon from Tetra's fic Home is Where the Hoenn Is.
Eventually, a friend informed me that I should head back to Petalburg to face Norman, but that he'd be the biggest difficulty spike yet.
And so, I gave up. I turned on a cheat that gave me infinite rare candies, and leveled up my Pokemon that were lagging behind Apoyime.
And so, I took on Norman. It took two tries, but I managed to win!
I had already taught Strength and Shock Wave to Mavy, and decided to teach him Surf as well, making him the jack of all trades of my team.
Thinking it was the next objective, I explored the Abandoned Ship. It was fun, but I got little out of it.
I then saw Wattson wandering around in Mauville, and decided to talk to him, which granted me access to New Mauville.
Gotta say, it's a lot different in the game than it was in the Adventures manga, but it was still cool and fun, and the music gave me lots of inspiration.
Next up, I made my way to Fortree, and was stumped by the invisible blockade in front of the gym until a friend told me to go further, into Route 120.
After giggling a bit and making a bunch of PMD references from the invisible blockades being Kecleons, with the Devon Scope in hand, I returned to Fortree and took down Winona.
Next was Route 120 proper, which was a surreal experience. I had researched it a bit for my fic In Tandem, but playing through it was something else entirely. It was like childhood wonder.
Mount Pyre was really neat. Same music as New Mauville on the inside, which paired with the graves created a very eerie atmosphere.
But outside, there was a fast-paced track that got me feeling ready to take on both Team Aqua and Team Magma.
Then I made my way to Lilycove, where I decided to try a contest with Apoyime.
I failed miserably, getting last place.
And then Emerald stumped me with the most baffling detour yet.
The Aqua hideout was blocked, the ocean routes were blocked, it seemed like I had nowhere to go.
I wandered around for quite a while, until a friend told me that I had to go back to Mount Chimney of all places, and examine a random rock, now that I had the Magma emblem.
This was probably the point where I was angriest with Emerald. More than Wattson's difficulty spike. More than HMs. More than the lackluster EXP Share. More than having to grind.
But I took a deep breath, and pressed onwards.
The Magma Hideout was nothing special, but it got the plotline rolling! Seeing Groudon become active was so cool to see.
And from there, it was a straightforward trip back to Lilycove to infiltrate the Team Aqua hideout.
The Aqua hideout was some of the most fun I had in the game so far. The maze of warp tiles, combined with the great music, and even being able to find a master ball tucked away past a tricky set of warp panels, it all came together to form something very fun!
Then it was a simple surf to Mossdeep, and I battled the Magma grunts there.
After the battle alongside Steven, though, tragedy struck: Hiova turned into a Bad Egg, and I saved before I noticed.
I have no idea why this happened, but Hiova was gone.
After taking a moment of silence to both calm down and to grieve, I looked up what to do in the case of a bad egg.
I deposited the bad egg into the PC, turned off the infinite rare candy code, and went to Route 120 to fetch a new HM buddy, a Marill.
After that, I went back to Mossdeep, and defeated Tate and Liza.
Next up, I began searching for the Deepsea Cave. It was a difficult search, and I managed to find Sootopolis City first, but eventually, I made it inside, and faced off against the evil teams of Hoenn one last time.
With Groudon and Kyogre both awake and both fighting, and after consulting Wallace, I made my way to Sky Pillar.
And...Rayquaza flew out without me fighting it at all. I was honestly kinda disappointed.
After making my way back to Sootopolis, Rayquaza stopped Kyogre and Groudon's warring in a really cool cutscene, and the main plot of the game was over.
But mainline Pokemon is weird. Unlike PMD, the game doesn't end when the plot ends. Instead, there's still the gym, Elite Four, and champion to go.
And so, I battled Juan, and won.
Next up was Ever Grande City, which, side note, really didn't live up to expectations. I was expecting a city as grand as the name implied, but all it was was a Pokemon Center, Victory Road, and the Pokemon League.
Speaking of Victory Road, it was a nightmare to navigate, especially with no Flash and no guide. It took me quite a while to get through it, but eventually, I made it to the Pokemon League.
It felt so tense going inside. I was about to face a gauntlet of the five toughest trainers in the main game, with no Pokemon Centers in between. This was it, my sea of time in Hoenn.
Sidney was relatively easy, but that relatively is doing a lot of work. He still nearly took down Raga and Serald, but I managed.
Phoebe was tough. Her Banette's Curse took down Raga, and she left most of the rest of my team with low health, but I won. Using a revive on Raga, and restoring everyone's HP, I pressed on.
Glacia was easier, about the same level as Sidney, but still nearly took down Serald, and dealt a hefty blow to Mavy as well. But I won.
I just had two trainers left, and this would be my toughest challenge yet.
Drake was brutal, as much as Wattson was. But I had come a long way since then. I just barely scraped by, with Mavy and Apoyime being the only members of my team not fainted when I took him down.
And then, after healing up my team, it was time for my final challenge.
Wallace was very difficult. Almost all his Pokemon were of higher level than most of mine, with his Milotic matching Apoyime's level. And with the move Recover? That Milotic was very, very difficult to defeat.
But I pulled through. I won. I made it into the Hall of Fame.
I consider that one of my greatest accomplishments I've ever done in a video game, up there with beating Champion's Road from Super Mario 3D World solo.
It was tricky. It was brutal. But I did it.
Maybe I'm just bad at mainline Pokemon, but I'm proud.
Emerald, while not my favorite, was mostly a great experience to play through for the first time.
However, it had its flaws. HMs, lack of directions, and grinding made some parts of it a slog.
Overall, though, I enjoyed it, and it was a fantastic start to my mainline Pokemon marathon.
Hoenn is now one of my favorite Pokemon regions.

Pokemon Theory: Hassel, Drayton, and "Sinister Hands"
Hey guys! Before the pokemon presents starts tomorrow, I wanted to hash out some observations I’ve made on the scarvi dlc and the implications they have on pokemon lore as a whole. I don’t have much of a big hook to draw anyone in, though, so let’s just jump into it.
Hassel is only one of two characters in all of gen 9 who is left handed. The other is professor turo, who does so to symbolically mirror sada. Through this, I don’t think it’s hard to say that Hassel’s left handedness is also something designed to mirror someone else.
A lot of people have already pointed out that Hassel and Drayton have a lot of mirrored animations.
As such, I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to say that they are the big foils here.
There’s a bit of a snag, though.
With Sada and Turo, it’s obvious that this right/left theming is in regards to the past/future, but it becomes a bit murky if you attempt to apply this to Drayton and Hassel.
If anything this theming is reversed.
Drayton’s supposed to match Sada’s past, but his ace is the futuristic Archaladon.
Similarly, Hassel is supposed to represent the future, but his ace is Baxcalibur, who is themed around dinosaurs, much like past paradox pokemon.
The major exception to this is their signature moves. Electro shot takes a turn to fire, while Baxcalibur takes double damage after using Glaive Rush. Drayton’s ace’s weakness is the “past”, while Hassel’s ace’s weakness is the “future”.
So… how are we supposed to read this exactly? It’s an intentional contradiction —a paradox, if you will—but one whose intent is hard to parse.
Something else has been nagging me about Hassel’s left-handedness: it’s an anachronism.
See, given the name, Baxcalibur is designed to be a medieval weapon. In which case fighting with it left handed would be considered a major taboo for that time period. Swordsmen of that period were trained exclusively with their right hand, which meant fighting with your left was considered to be inherently underhanded.
This bled into a lot of the language and culture at the time. The word “sinister” itself literally means left in latin, we just use it to mean evil in modern times because those were the traits associated with left handed people back then.
It was a common trope for duels to be won unfairly by having the perpetrator fence with their right hand, only to stab their opponent with a hidden blade in their left. A left handed fencer in most medieval fiction is almost inherently duplicitous.
Another one was for left handed fighters to be masters attempting to hide their true strength by using their non-dominant hand to fight. A more benevolent form of trickery, but deceitful nonetheless. Maybe it’s a sign that Hassel is pulling his punches, given how low “elite four member” is compared to the multiple dragon tamer champions we’ve had?
youtube
You can see both of these tropes being invoked by this scene from the princess bride. Both opponents intentionally start with their weakest hand before switching to the right, but it’s a double entendre also meant to show that neither is as bad as they appear to be either, a fact made even more obvious by how honorably they fight.
To be honest, I was a bit concerned I could be grasping at straws with these comparisons, given that Baxcalibur’s Japanese name doesn’t even refer to a sword, but then it hit me
Its signature move is it literally backstabbing you. That’s the pun.
Which leads me to what’s been nagging at me here: why is one of Hassel’s major character motifs centered around him being a traitor if he never once betrays anyone in the story? If he was built from the ground up to be our metaphorical Brutus, then who is Caesar?
I think the obvious guess of who Hassel is a traitor to would be the dragon tamer family he seems to have run away from.
He tells us why he left, but his explanation is more than a little vague. Why did he stop being a musician and join the elite four? Why is he so necessary to his family’s hierarchy that they are willing to fake his father’s illness to get him back, even after all these years? There’s more to this story that Hassel is either downplaying or straight up not telling us, and that makes it the prime suspect for Hassel’s “traitor” status.
However, as we are in Unova for the dlc, my inner fan theorist can’t help but also point out the faction actively themed around medieval knights.
Especially when their boss is yet another blonde-ish lefty with swept back hair who is, frankly, more than a little ceasar coded himself.
Hassel’s backstabbing is probably a good thing for us either way tbh
Drayton’s the right hand man, however, and as such we can assume that he is aligned with whatever Hassel is against, willingly or otherwise. The Mark Anthony to our Brutus, if you will. The responsibilities of which he is likely dragging his feet on by staying in school as long as possible. Which actually brings us back to the original right hand/left hand dichotomy.
I think the big difference between the Sada/Turo dichotomy and the Drayton/Hassel dichotomy is that Sada and Turo are defined by a relentless pursuit of something. Drayton and Hassel, on the other hand, are defined by avoidance.
What’s important to the symbolism isn’t that Drayton is using his right hand, it’s that he isn’t using his left. He isn’t someone pursuing the past like Sada, but using his obligation to the school as a way to avoid the future.
Similarly, I think it's safe to say that Hassel is using his teaching position to escape his past moreso than he is looking to his future.
Because of this I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say that Hassel’s past and Drayton’s future… probably coalesce in the same place.
What this actually implies is a question that will probably only be answered by our inevitable black and white remake, but I am curious about it nonetheless. I’ve got a bunch of extra comparisons to make between these two that didn’t quite make the cut here, so feel free to add your own observations and theories if you come up with anything.

Since Hisui has the only naturally occurring Alpha pokemon and such I'm pretty sure do you even have to deal with poachers who come for the goal of catching the alpha specimens to sell in other regions since foreign poachers wouldn't have that same fear of pokemon?
In my universe, alphas exist in every region, they're just more common in Hisui because it's not modernized and there aren't many humans there. When foreign poachers do make their way to hisui, it's often for the unique hisuian forms.
Hisuian forms, in my universe, exist alongside their "classic" forms. But hisuian forms are much, much older versions of the species that have been around since more ancient times. They are all very close to extinction, especially the hisuian form starters. Their alternate forms essentially evolved to lose traits that made the sought after by poachers.
(Prepare for a yap fest-)
:readmore:
For example, Goodra lost its shell since they were often hunted for the metal in their shells. Sliggoo as well
Samurott's shells and armor was harvested to make weapons, being much harder than it's modern counterpart. While this problem still exists, it isn't as prevalent as people started to lose interest without the unique dark colors it had before. Samurott are also better able to blend into the sand of beaches where they roam and hide.
Decidueye was hunted for its beautiful and bright red feathers that stood out from many other grass types. By becoming more natural greens and wings that can fully cover their white feathers, Decidueye became much harder to spot and less appealing.
Arcanine's fur became much less smooth and much harder to maintain, making them less popular for fur coats. Though it still faces issues of its fur being used to stuff winter coats, blankets, and similar objects. The same applies to growlithe mostly
Electrode and Voltorb weren't particularly poached but rather evolved to loose the grass typing to better survive in more modern areas they'd migrated to. They are the most common of the hisuian forms.
Qwilfish and overqwil often had their spines harvested for weapons. Qwilfish became much harder to spot as its colors changed and its spines were less useful as they got shorter. Overqwil wasn't quite able to make it that far. They are now critically endangered.
Sneasel was hunted for its fur and feathers, popular accessories for royalty. Sneasler was harvested for its claws and is now extinct in the wild. A few trainers in other regions have put together programs to try and revive the wild populations with individuals they'd caught.
Lilligant was never really poached either but was rather much too easy for faster predators to spot and catch. It's flowers were sought after but those would often be shed and people didn't find it worth the time and effort to kill the pokemon for it. It just evolved to have better camouflage to hide from predators.
Typhlosion had a similar issue to sneasel.
Zorua and Zoroark were rare enough to begin with but are now almost entirely extinct in the wild. Their fur is said to be extremely soft and silky. Whether this is true or not isn't quite clear to modern societies. They evolved better illusionary skills and became almost exclusively nocturnal.
Braviary was popular for its feathers but was very rarely caught. They are still very common but extremely difficult to find or catch if one doesn't know where to look (which most dont). The modern braviary evolved from hisuian individuals migrating and choosing to stay in warmer areas of other regions.
Avalugg is just a result of migration, searching for colder places. Hisui had warmed significantly from what they had originally adapted to, the waters especially. Many started to lose the rock typing as they became more accustomed to treading water

Watch Pokemon Legends A-Z eventually disprove everything I say here but oh well, thought I'd share anyway- POKEMON LORE THEORY/HEADCANON!!
Spoilers? Not really, only if you really want to exclusively discover historical events lore FROM within the games.. Which this applies to mainly gen 6-8.. There's a cornflake of gen 9 lore.
30,000 years ago:
Eternatus comes down on the Crown Tundra in Galar, inside a meteor. Eternatus is weak and stays there slumbering. Not much changes about Galar except obviously the crater made by it.
Unspecified time between 30,000 & 3,000 years: A war is waged in the Kalos Region
3,000 years ago:
AZ's Floette is killed in the war in the Kalos region
AZ uses special crystals(tera crystals) from the Paldea region to construct the ultimate weapon, infused with the life force of other pokemon to power it and bring his Floette back to life and granting himself immortality in the process.. but then wanted revenge on those who killed his floette.
the ultimate weapon is detonated for destruction this time, wiping out ANYTHING in its radius, sending shock waves through the earth- massive earthquakes and access amounts of energy released across the land
this energy is passed all the way across the sea and into Galar, being immediately absorbed by the sleeping Eternatus
this causes Eternatus to awaken and go haywire. It starts releasing the newly obtained energy into the land, causing wild Pokemon to grow huge & powerful (dynamax), this is the darkest day
Debris(Pieces of the Ultimate Weapon) are scattered across Kalos, these will become Mega-stones, they are a lot like the Tera crystals of Paldea but infused with power from the pokemon sacrificed for it.
2 young warriors of Galar who are partners to young Zacian & Zamazenta, seek to stop the Darkest Day to end its destruction as giant Pokemon graze their kingdom- with their sword & shield, Zamazenta & Zacian are able to negate Eternatus' power to defeat it, sending it back to its slumber in the the crater from where it came.
these 2 warriors are crowned kings for their heroic actions
However this does not remove the energy released into the earth, and Galar now has its phenomenon that'll become known as "dynamax power". Energy from the ultimate weapon that had been corrupted by Eternatus.
the war in Kalos is promptly ended because almost everything is DEAD
Unspecified time after this:
People of Galar will learn control & even use this energy for their own. Keeping the energy more stable by letting it be absorbed for use as electricity. Although this does very slowly burn away the energy.. and one day it could still run out
AZ's brother buries the ultimate weapon to prevent it from being used again
these strange powerful stones scattered across Kalos will be discovered and polished, then used by trainers in battle as "mega evolution". And slowly start being distributed to other regions(like Hoenn) for use..
And that's my take! The thing with tera crystals being used to make the ultimate weapon might seem like a reach and yeah- it is, I just REALLY wanted all three of these elements to be related in some way and initially was gonna say the crater in Paldea was somehow caused by the weapon but then discovered I guess the crater was canonically created MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO so.. decided to go the other way. And the thing with eternatus absorbing the energy is just cuz nothing I found explicitly says Eternatus had caused dynamax energy in the region since it first fell on Earth..
Btw Eternatus is also an ultra-beast, but z-crystals don't have any relation to these events as they are canonically shards from Necrozma.
There's probably a million little plot-holes to this but ya know.. it's all in good fun :D I think it's neat anyway.

The Pokemon HOME app limiting random features and information to either the mobile or console versions is SO clunky and annoying.
My goal: to check which of my favorite Pokemon and shinies stored in HOME don't have the Paldea Champion Ribbon yet, so I can bring those into Scarlet and get it for them. But! You can only view what ribbons a Pokemon has on the mobile version of the software! And you can't move Pokemon to your switch games from mobile!!! So you have to:
quit out of the console app, if you opened it already because you thought this would be a relatively simple task
open the app on mobile
manually document which Pokemon don't have the ribbon- like, on a piece of paper or something
close the mobile app (you can't have both versions of the app open simultaneously)
open the app on console
move them from HOME into Scarlet, referring to aforementioned list
Now you might say "There is a custom tag feature in Pokemon HOME! You could apply a tag to the Pokemon you plan to move instead of making a physical note on a piece of paper!" But unfortunately, the only aspect of the tag you can see on the console version is the color- the name of the tag isn't visible. and I'm already using every color of tag available
(also: you can only make and apply tags on mobile. other mobile exclusive things: wonder trade and gts, viewing 90% of achievements, viewing models, switching between a pokemon's stats for different games it can go in without switching what game you're planning on moving things between)
#pokemon home#pokemon#i need a text post tag#i have more complaints too. i should make a comprehensive list. just for me#like: shinies don't have any symbol marking them as such on the GTS. so for the really subtle shinies? you just have to look REAL careful#whenever you import pokemon from Bank they automatically get tagged with a new tag with the name of the Box that they were imported from#which is maybe useful to somebody but its just super annoying for me to have to keep deleting the 'Kanto 1' tag from all of my Bank imports#the lighting in the model viewer is really fucking bad and makes the pokemon look flat and undefined#overlapping areas that are the same color blend together visually#for that matter; the HOME renders are really fucking ugly. compare them to the sugi art they're posed after sometime. terrakion. its WILD#the lag when moving between pages of boxes on the console version when you have a lot of pokemon stored in HOME is MISERABLE#the mobile app and console app have different sets of achievements that are only viewable on their respective apps???? its weird#can't reorder pokemon's box positions on mobile; you just get a big list that you can sort different ways#this doesn't affect their box placement at all#the tags seem really useful at first but if you're moving pokemon between HOME and games a lot?#you have to reapply the tags to those pokemon every time you put them back in HOME because that data is lost once they leave the app#they never fixed the Spinda problem with BDSP; they just made it so that you can't bring Spinda in or out of those games

Thinking of becoming a ranger, can you be both a ranger and a pokemon trainer? Is it difficult to rise up the ranks? What kind or people will I have to interact with besides other rangers?
I would say - kindof. Being a pokemon trainer absolutely has benefits for applying to Ranger school, especially if you want to work in places other than Almia/Fiore/Oblivia. Anywhere that pokeballs are a staple to everyday life - Pokemon rangers mostly act like Trainers.
That being said there are also a lot of hoops to jump through. Training a battle pokemon and training a ranger pokemon are two different things. Most of my pokemon would lose in a flat out battle - but thats not their primary goal.
My two Nidorina are trained for crowd control and rescuing people from debris or accidents. Lamp the Sizzlipede is espionage and stealth - something we use a lot to deal with situations non-aggressively. Sol is basically a non-combatant, he exclusively works in urban enviroments to help deal with emergencies where people are trapped on upper stories of buildings. As an ariados he can safely attach anchor points or even carry small people or pokemon. Sully is in training to not be a little bitch 24/7 and my Fidough Zelda is a bit too young for serious work, but we are doing scenting classes and she's on her way to be a cadaver dog.
I think Sully is a good example of what could potentially happen with battle 'mons. They often are aggressive in stressful situations because thats how they have been conditioned. Battle is inherently stressful and not necessarily in a bad way. But a battle 'mon might not be able to distinguish between "battle stress" and "ranger emergency stress".
TLDR - Retraining a pokemon is a very long process - its not entirely impossible but it is something to be aware of when applying.
As for rising through the ranks - it isnt all that its cracked up to be. If you want prestige stick to being a trainer - you get no badges or accolades in this job.
And Uhhh to answer your question about people - its a mixed bag. You get to help a lot of people but also have to throw down with scum of the earth. Think of it like high stakes customer service except i can get the Karens arrested bc usually they are doing a funny lil thing called 'a violation of ethics'.
#that being said you dont have to stop being a trainer. a lot of rangers are just casual participants on their off hours.#irl pokemon#pokeblogging#rl pokemon#asks#pokemon irl#pokemon ranger#pokemon ranger headcanons#pokemon ranger headcanon

Pikachu, Psyduck, Duraludon, and the case for NFE (Not Fully Evolved) Pokemon for Pokemon Unite.
The Pokemon Unite Championship Series has come and gone, congratulations to everyone who made it to the big stage. As a casual player, however, I'm a bit more interested in the trailer teasing the next three pokemon coming to Pokemon Unite.
The first one coming soon is Armarouge, the counterpart to Ceruledge. Both of them evolve from Charcadet, but can only do so through an evolution item exclusive to a specific version of the game. This is par for the course, as plenty of pokemon have parallels between them, like how Latios and Latias can only be obtained in either Pokemon Ruby or Pokemon Sapphire, or how you can only get a Cranidos or a Shieldon in either version of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. This also applies to the available pokemon in Pokemon Unite, though a lot of them are missing their contemporaries.
Like, Sableye has been in the Unite roster for a while, but its counterpart, Mawile, has yet to make an appearance. Trevenant is also in the game, but there's no sign of Gourgeist. Buzzwole and Pheromosa are from the same dimension, but only one is playable. And that's not even without going over the EX pokemon having to fight solo. I mean, what is Zacian without Zamazenta, or Miraidon without Koraidon?
Ok, I'm digressing, but I think I've made my point at how we're getting a pair of pokemon pals on the roster at long last. Hopefully the collection is filled out soon with more acquaintances reuniting with each other on the roster. Gotta catch 'em all, right?
And then there's Darkrai, a long time fan favorite from Gen 4. You know how it goes with these kinds of pokemon, the shadowy, edgy, demon-like monster attracts all the typical quarry, but it helps that it got its own movie.
What's more interesting to me is how Darkrai, along with many other pokemon on the Unite roster, also had a spot in Pokken Tournament. Normally there'd be minimal correlation, but eagle eyed fans of both games would recognize that there's some shared animations between the two.
There are other examples, like Garchomp's Dig being 1:1 in how it is animated, or that Pikachu's Volt Tackle is functionally identical in both games, but the big idea here is that the Pokken Tournament roster is slowly being integrated into Pokemon Unite.
If that theory is true, then there are several pokemon very likely to be put into Pokemon Unite within the games lifetime, that being the likes of Empoleon, Sceptile, Weavile, and Suicune.
That even includes long shot ideas like this guy.
Now's the part where we talk about Psyduck and NFEs in general. NFE stands for Not Fully Evolved and it is a technical classification due to the item Eviolite only working on NFE pokemon. But that's neither here nor there, because the real headscratcher is how Psyduck got into the game instead of Golduck.
A big part of it is popularity, something Psyduck and Pikachu have in spades over their superior forms. It also helps being the favorite pokemon of Junichi Masuda, one of the founders of Game Freak and Pokemon in general. However, not being able to fully evolve limits your potential on the battlefield in Pokemon Unite, but given Psyduck's characteristic of constantly being plagued by headaches, the Supporter role was a shoo-in for the doofy duck.
Psyduck being in the game opens the door for other NFE pokemon to join the roster. The reason we're looking at this now is because Pikachu, having been in the game since launch, was guaranteed a spot on the roster due to its mascot status. It's also the status quo that Raichu gives the spotlight to Pikachu in all things related to pokemon, so no love lost there.
I do need to mention Duraludon real quick because its status as an NFE pokemon in Pokemon Unite was entirely coincidental. It gained an evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, during the Indigo Disk expansion which was released several months later after launch. Before that, Duraludon was a standalone evolution when it was revealed back in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and no one would have guessed that it would gain an evolution so soon. It's not like the Unite devs could've known, they're a separate company in a different country away from Game Freak. You may have been banned from Little Cup, Duraludon, but you're still an honorary NFE in Pokemon Unite.
Anyways, more NFE pokemon joining Unite is a matter of supply and demand. There are NFE pokemon out there that have their fans, but are they loved more than their evolutions? Are there enough NFE pokemon out there that have a shot at the Pokemon Unite roster?
I already mentioned Croagunk before, so let's go over its odds. While most NFE pokemon that reached the peak of popularity reside in Gen 1, Croagunk is a special case in that it seems to be liked more than Toxicroak. Now, I like both, but if it were up to me, I'd choose Toxicroak over Croagunk. I'd be fine if the latter got in over the former. I understand the appeal though, as something about its lax demeanor made it popular enough that it got into Pokken Tournament as DLC.
In Pokken Tournament, its fighting style revolved around randomness, with random effects happening through some of its moves, or random items being thrown out, or even utilizing random debuffs and buffs to its benefit. In Pokemon Unite, it would most likely be a Supporter with a gambling gimmick, having the potential to deal high damage randomly, but would most likely debuff the enemy with poison and hindrances.
So, are there any other NFEs that can join Pokemon Unite? Well, for one, Meowth has a fair shot, having been in just as many episodes in the anime as Pikachu. I actually made a case for Meowth for Pokemon Unite a while ago, though I made my opinions clear that I preferred Persian instead. Also, a frail Supporter that was reliant on its ability to hinder the enemy is something that is typically difficult to balance. I mean, look at Sableye, having once been feared for its invisible tomfoolery, now underwhelming when it appears in a Unite Match. There's gotta be a fine line in making tricky Supporters fun and fair for everyone. And what does Meowth bring to the table?
As it is themed around good luck and good fortune, a gambling gimmick may also be utilized for its moveset. Since it is well known to use the move Pay Day to fill its trainers pockets, perhaps it could augment an allies Score Pocket by filling it with points or boosting their scoring speed. Although, if Meowth were to take the spot away from Persian, maybe it could take on the Speedster role and throw coins that deal random damage and capitalize on its good luck. Of course, it's odds are even at the beginning of the game, but with more move upgrades it could lean into a very lucky lightning bruiser to make up for its low defenses. (this bit is inspired by @reefs-n-relaxation comment on my Meowth for Pokemon Unite post.)
Beyond these two, I don't really know of any other NFE pokemon that they could possibly add. I mean, maybe you could throw in niche picks like Spheal or Smoliv, but do we really want to see the Supporter archetype cluttered with NFEs? I'm not sure we'll be getting anymore after Psyduck releases, but hey, I'm happy to be proven wrong.
What about you? If you've read this far, maybe you have a favorite NFE that could join Pokemon Unite. I'd love to hear about it.

a few more things about the nintendo music app
i thought when they said some tracks couldn't be extended they just meant like. jingles and stuff that doesn't loop (there's already a loop function after all). but it looks like none of the pokemon sv music can be extended for some reason, and ive heard many of the ocarina of time dungeon themes can't either
i noticed that splatoon 3 doesn't include the bonus tracks on splatune 3, or the concert. the concert maybe makes sense (they could list that separately if they wanted after all, and it's technically not part of the game itself), but why not include splatoon 3's trailer theme if botw's is still there??
someone ripped the files from nintendo music, so i compared several of them to the gamerips and osts (when applicable) and found that the games that don't have soundtracks seem to just use the same files found in the games, since the quality is similar (and by similar i mean slightly lower). smbw and pikmin 4 have fairly good quality music already so that's not necessarily bad in those cases, but ripping the music from the app isn't going to give us access to anything that's not already available unfortunately
the above point also applies to mario kart 8 deluxe's wii u tracks, not just the switch-exclusive ones. they did not take those from the soundtrack cd. the audio quality is significantly worse (and way below pikmin and smbw), and the fact that some tracks are ordered differently than the cd (and there are some extras for stages with music variations that the cd didn't have as separate tracks) should have been an indication of this. other games with soundtracks (splatoon 3 being the one i checked, at least) are significantly better, much more comparable to the cd (as suggested by splatoon 3's use of those mixes, in its case)
so there you go. ripping the music doesn't really give anything of value, the lack of composer credit means we won't get any new information on that out of it... really the only useful thing this provides is extensions (and not even for everything), official track names, and i guess a suggestion for track ordering for stuff that didn't have a soundtrack already?

new & improved about me
hi. you can call me a (it stands for whatever you want it to, send me your guesses if you want). i like fighting type pokemon, music, and traveling, so you'll see some posts about that. i'm an adult and any pronouns are fine.
{{ooc: my other blogs are @snowpointmailguy and @greatesteagle , but they all follow from here!}}
{{ OOC UNDER READMORE -- I RECOMMEND CHECKING IT }}
warning: i'm wordy. you don't have to read this whole thing, but i'd appreciate it if you at least skimmed the bold parts!
i've been meaning to update this blog with a fancified account for a hot minute since i got a (frankly surprising) amount of followers from this post--originally, when i started pokeblogging, i was mainly just intending to interact with my friends and they more or less know what i'm about. i think that, since i'm planning on kicking this blog back to life with an event, it's fair that everyone have some basic information about me, what i will and won't interact with, and my character.
for me: hi, i'm eve. i'm also an adult (21) who uses any pronouns, like my character, but that's where a lot of our similarities end, lol. as i'll elaborate on a bit later, this blog is sfw and i don't care if minors follow/interact, but i want this info out there so people can set boundaries as they feel they need to. i'm not excessively familiar with pokeblogging but i've been roleplaying on and off in various places for a long time! i'm wordy and i can be a bit blunt but i promise i'm friendly and would love to rp or talk :3
general boundary-setting:
like aforementioned, anything to be posted on this blog is sfw. for clarifying purposes, this refers to sexual content exclusively, and not necessarily violent content. any interactions of explicit natures will be ignored, and i would rather not extensively interact with any predominantly nsfw blogs; i'm happy to write with sfw sideblogs though! i want this blog to be safe for all ages; generally, i aim to maintain a pg-13 rating, so (for other adult muses only, please) mildly suggestive flirting that fits within that rating is fine!
i'm not familiar with all of the pokeblogging terms, but as a general rule of thumb, i'll interact with any kind of rp blog. canon protagonists, oc protagonists, fallers, sapient pokemon, it's all cool with me. however, i'd rather not interact extensively with any non-rp blogs, because...
i do my best to keep ic and ooc interactions purely separate. i am not generally comfortable interacting ic to ooc, ooc to ic, which means i politely ask you not to reblog my posts (with additions) on non-rp blogs because i will ignore them. asks from non-rp blogs are fine on or off anon as long as they aren't intended to be long-form interactions. i just need it abundantly clear that i am not my character and my character is not me.
about the character:
all of this information below is ooc and most muses have no way to know it. there will be hints for attentive muses but please don't pull anything revealing on him without letting me, the mun know beforehand.
a is an oc protagonist for legends arceus. he is alive in a day close to the present, primarily hanging around in paldea. he looks like a particularly haggard thirty-something, and that's the age range he claims, but he has lived for over a century. he has protagonist-level knowledge of the base game canon and will interact with legends arceus characters with that knowledge in mind. also, warning for a canon-typical complicated relationship with arceus/god figures in general.
a is not his real name. i would say she wouldn't give out her real name, except an attentive muse might notice this blog's connection to @snowpointmailguy at some point. the connection is that they're the same person, from two different points on the timeline. snowpointmailguy is drew pre-hisui timejump, lopunnears is drew many years post-hisui timejump.
various heavy content warnings may apply; i will tag to the best of my ability but feel free to ask if something is showing up frequently that i'm not tagging. if i start any major arc that will have frequent sensitive material, i'll make an announcement post warning for it!
if you got to the bottom, wow, i can't believe i actually wrote that much. i'm no good at being succinct, lol. thank you for reading and i look forward to writing with you!
