Hi there! My name is Josh. (they/them) I work at the Pokemon Center in Petalburg, Hoenn. This is a place where I'll be sharing some tips and experiences I've picked up from my life and career of raising pokemon. Hope you enjoy!

Hi! I'm writing in because my smeargle, Goh, has been acting really odd. I've had him since he was an egg, and we've been great art buddies, but about a week ago he started tripping me up by plopping down right in front of me when I'm walking. Sometimes when I sit down he'll sit on my feet and glare at me. Is he upset with me or something?
ohhhhhh my god this is adorable okay okay okay okay SO
you ever seen a smeargle with a pawprint on their back? you ever see a juvenile smeargle and realize they dont have that pawprint? here's why: it's a social behavior. smeargle live in packs in the wild, and once they reach maturity they mark each others's backs as a sign of respect/connection. but the thing is that they don't have this instinct specifically for smeargle, it's for anyone they're pack bonded with. So little Goh here is probably trying to get you to mark its back!!!!
Here's what you can do:
1. give Goh a bath, with special attention to his back. (I'm sure you know this already, but make sure to cover the end of his tail with a plastic bag or plastic wrap so the "paint" doesn't leak everywhere)
2. wash the sole of your own foot well, but don't scrub it or do anything that might smooth out the texture.
3. take some of its "paint" and coat the bottom of your cleaned foot
4. once he rolls over, press your foot down gently enough to make full contact, but not so hard that you potentially injure him. hold this for at least a minute.
5. remove your foot, and use a hair dryer to make sure the "paint" dries fully. Once it's dry his body will actually start to change some pigmentation around and mimic the imprint, making it permanent.
6. Wash your foot really well. Like, REALLY well. You'll notice I've been putting "paint" in quotes like that. This is where I have to break the news to you. Smeargle "paint" is mostly pee. By volume I think it's literally 60% pee. It also has VERY strong stains and dyes mixed in, so get that stuff off as FAST as possible. If you don't get it all off before it fully dries you're gonna have a piss-stained foot for a couple months.
7. Don't give him any baths or let him in water until he starts scratching at his back. that's the sign that the process is finished and he's trying to get the paint off.
Hope everything goes well for you!!

How about Bisharp? They're my favorite mons of all time. ^^
oooo im not super familiar with bisharp, lemme check the literature to see if theres anything of note! Bisharp have a really interesting hierarchical structure, which is strangely similar to human-made ones! Kingambits will command several Bisharp that each command several Pawniard. generally no Bisharp will evolve into Kingambit before the Kingambit dies or is disgraced, but Pawniard will evolve into Bisharp once they're big enough no matter the existing number. This actually leads to regular population cycling, where Bisharp infighting lowers their numbers, then once things are steady they start to breed more so more Pawniard are produced, and then once the Pawniard start to evolve they begin infighting again, and this goes on and on over the course of roughly 2-3 years in the wild. Also sometimes Kingambits go to war over territory and it's one of the only time's you'll see a wild one actually getting up and doing some serious fighting. (Other than normal self-defense.)
Thanks for the ask!

i just saw another Youngster throwing a pokéball into the water and it completely missed and he didn't even bother to scoop up the broken pieces. i'm so fucking disappointed with this generation see this is why lapras are so endangered because they keep fuckin Literally Choking On Net Balls that you don't bother to clean up. this is one of the most bueatiful shores in the world and there are only 40 lapras left IN EXISTENCE and one washed up just last week please please please STOP SURFING and STOP BATTLING on the ocean

Wait what is op talking about? Lapras officially stopped being endangered back in 2016 and are actually an overeffective predator that are driving gastrodon populations almost to extinction in some parts of alola. This is actually just blatant misinformation? I guess??

not every pokemon likes scritches or cuddling though
INCORRECT youre just bad at scritches and/or cuddling
done correctly, a tyrantiar could be befriended entirely with one hand and some patience.

just because a pokemon is normal primary type doesnt mean you can ignore all the physical and dietary needs of its secondary typing. you still need to feed your pidgeotto flying-type food. you still need to let your wigglytuff wander through the forest to regenerate its cryptid fae energy. you still need to teach your chatot curse words. you still need to lock your girafarig in a mirror maze to give it an existential crisis.

you wanna talk about how we’ve been dealing with two very different psychic types, aka the Very relaxed Robert, my son who can eloquently describe his issues, and Luci, my daughter who has all the anxiety in the world
robert, the supercomputer beldum: "excuse me father and parent, i am humbly requesting some attention, or perhaps a treat. i do not wish to gain the zoomies as that may damage the house and/or furniture. scritches would also be adequate."
luci, the anxious to all hell espurr:
STOP THINKING SO LOUD THERE ARE BUGS IN THE WALLS

All the little lies we tell kids about how Pokémon work are honestly so charming. Like yeah bud, your pichu evolved because you’re really great friends with it! Don’t worry about why it’s suddenly humping everything that’s roughly its size. It’s just playing!

if you ever wonder why you've only seen trainers with female kangaskhan, its because male kangaskhan are TERRIFYING. Once the adult hormones hit them those things become VISCIOUS to the point of being unsafe to train. (and that's coming from someone who thinks they could effectively train a SLAKING.) there's no level of respect you can earn with one where they won't trample you to get to a female, or just launch an outrage because they feel like it. the safest way to deal with one if you encounter it in the wild is just to seem like a complete non-threat and wait it out. definitely DONT send one of your partners to defend you if they aren't also a massive powerhouse. I'm talking tyranitar levels of strength before i'd feel confident.

Hey um. I might have. Accidentally adopted (?) a shuppet (followed me home and would not leave me alone so I just... let it inside). I've done some basic research on them while the little fellow naps on my bed (so freaking cute), but I'm probably out of my depth here since I've never kept a ghost type before. Do you think you could maybe give ma a basic rundown on what you know about shuppet care? I know they feed on negative emotions, of which I have plenty, so I've got food (hopefully) covered, but is there anything else I should keep in mind if I decide to keep the little guy? Are they particularly prone to any specific health issues that I should look out for? What type of enrichment do they need (so far they seem to enjoy burrowing into my plushie pile and popping out at random)? Should I supplement their diet with tangible foods, and if so, what kinds? Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
Okay so the number one thing to know is that one person's negative emotions is NOT enough to sustain a ghost-type pokemon's spiritual energy needs, and they do also need regular food.
Ghost-type food is pretty expensive but can be found at most pokemon supply stores, and they only need very little per day since they're mostly ethereal. Assuming you have a limited budget you're more than likely gonna have to take regular trips to a local funeral home or meat processing plant for spirit energy feedings while supplementing their physical diet needs with any **NON-VEGAN** food/scraps you have. (Vegan food doesn't have enough death associated with it to sustain them)
I've talked about this topic here, here, and here in the past if you're looking for more information. Good luck!
