idk what the discourse is here but here's a brief summary of twitter for the past 3 months

this is racist on its own but i think what always gets me about these types of posts is (and i realize this is a very surface level observation but) you never see people on here say "western live-action dramas are the high school girls in underwear medium" people will critique riverdale or pretty little liars or supernatural or the such individually but the issue is almost always attributed to the specific piece of media or the writers and not the medium as a whole despite the fact that a large amount of these examples do in fact do the same things people constantly act like are unique flaws of anime (misogyny, sexualization of high school characters, romanticization of underage characters getting with overage ones, ect.) it's all just very blatant

look man i just don't think a trans woman asking if you're TME when you start talking about issues related to transmisogyny is the same as a cis person asking if you're amab or afab when you tell them you use they/them pronouns and it's kinda disingenuous to pretend these are equivalent

someone sent a meme in a discord server i'm in that was like "99% of deltarune fans quit right before they correctly predict a character as irredeemably evil" featuring king and spamton and carol and the like but then everyone was like "ok but spamton is irredeemable though" let's all play undertale again and you're not allowed to stop until you understand what toby was trying to say ok

i entirely do not give a fuck if men are getting their feelings hurt because one of them saw a lesbian or a woman with trauma say "i hate men" twice in one week or whatever. like are we for real serious. i'm going to say this in the nicest way possible : grow thicker skin & get over it.

"this character is so specifically coded as [x] idk how the author can tell us that it was unintentional" tbh most of the time it's probably something a lot simpler than the author being cowardly or duplicitous and not wanting to admit they wrote a certain kind of character, they likely just based that trait on someone they know (or themselves lol) and didn't consciously realize that trait was in any way non-average or implied anything else. it's still free real estate dgmw, if the text suggests that a character is (for example) super mega transgender then the text suggests that character is super mega transgender, but it doesn't necessarily mean the author knew that the text was suggesting that the character is super mega transgender.
