So I was listening to music earlier today and stumbled upon '21 guns' by Greenday and after being released by the throes of nostalgia (and feeling decidedly old), I found the lyrics to be quite deeply fitting for Squall in general and the development he goes through during FFVIII.

I look down at my phone and notice the album art from which this track is from:

I kept debating how to end this short little mini comic. In the original script, they were gonna hold hands (scandalous, I know lmfao), but I didn't think it hit quite right in comic format when I tried to make it longer. Hence why it ends... like that.

Anyways I wrote like a ton of comic scripts for COTL comics that just didn't hit right / I couldn't commit to making and then when driving home from work last week in the pitch darkness I thought about how nice it is to see like actual stars. And I feel like with the cult grounds being kind of among a lot of trees and all that it might take a short hike to get a really, really, really good view of the night sky and stuff. Thus. This.

something about s1-3 zane is just. oh this guy is so silly and friend-shaped. look at his friendly boy swag. like????? how could you ever hate him. the ultimate silly

not to hate on his titanium era because frankly it is very cool. but the essence of s1-3 zane is unique and uncapturable. he is just a little guy you can put in your pocket. his default facial expression is so inherently funny. there are no thoughts behind these eyes. i would trust him with my life.

The ghost king was a cat.

No one, not even Constantine, knew of this fact. Until the day the eldritch ghost of the infinite was summoned by a wayward cult who wished for the destruction of the world.

He was a large cat, actually. About, roughly, bigger than a car with green fur, an eyepatch over one of his eyes, large horns-thought one was broken-, and a flaming green crown floating above his head.

The ghost king laid on his side and the summoning seemingly interrupted him from... grooming? A smaller cat that laid next to the king that, while smaller than the king (or perhaps his father?) was larger than the average dog.

Meanwhile, Pariah Dark is not exactly pleased he was summoned, with obvious intent to destroy/enslave a world. How rude of them. Don't they know he's on, what was it?

The thing about the enlightenment stage is that no one really tells you just how sensitive everything is, when you actually begin to feel something after a lifetime of not being able to sense anything apart from visual and audio cues. These changes are scary for a newer puppet, when they can't understand what's happening.

Sooooooooooooo if anyone's wondering why Pomni doesn't have a jester hat in this au.... She does.

At some point in your life, there will be a moment where exactly - or near exactly - half the people in the world are younger than you, and half the people are older.

And I think that moment should be the one your soulmate Mark appears at, not at birth or puberty or something. Both because at birth is kind of boring but it's also very you-centric and soulmates are about the thing outside of you being a part of you, and I think it would be nice to include The World.

But also I think it would have fascinating implications for scientific and social studies. Longevity trends tracked by the average age soul marks appear. Tragedies causing a rash of recent marks to disappear (because the people are no longer the middle). Marks appearing early during baby booms.

Let me elaborate. Every day, you wake up. You think "I should eat breakfast," but you're still groggy, and that would take work, and you have somewhere to be soon, so you just add it to the list of things to do today. You go through your day doing whatever it is you do, and sometime in the early evening, you notice you're feeling kinda stressed, like you've got frame lag in your brain. Thinking is harder than it should be. After a moment's reflection, you realise you never ticked "eat breakfast" off today's chore list, but you've got other stuff going on right now so you make a note to get to that soon and move on. It's late evening. You should really be in bed, but it's whatever. You feel dizzy and nauseous. There's a pervasive sense of dread; something is deeply wrong and you can't tell what. Are you tired? Are you sick? Is the world just a horrible place inhabited by cruelty and idiots? Oh. Maybe, but you also just haven't given your idiot body its calories yet, and it's buttonmashing stress responses like a cat yowling for dinner.

It's one o'clock in the morning. You finally eat breakfast. Now it's time to go to bed, and try again tomorrow.
