Valentine's Day was fast approaching, and the atmosphere was filled with love and anticipation. Heart-shaped decorations adorned every corner of the school, and the sweet scent of roses lingered in the air at home. As the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker-Delgado clan gathered for dinner, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness.

Manny, always the romantic, had been planning the perfect Valentine's Day surprise for his crush. Meanwhile, Luke and I exchanged subtle glances across the dinner table, our secret romance hidden from the rest of the family.

Claire, bustling around the kitchen setting the table with heart-shaped plates and napkins, couldn't help but notice the tension between Luke and me. With a knowing smile, she commented, "Love is definitely in the air tonight."

I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment as I tried to play it cool. "Yeah, I guess so," I mumbled, avoiding Luke's gaze.

Luke shot me a sideways glance, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. "Seems that way," he agreed, his tone casual.

Despite our attempts to mask our feelings, the butterflies in my stomach betrayed me. Did Luke feel the same way about me as I did about him?

The next day at school, Valentine's Day fever was palpable. Heart-shaped cards were exchanged, and the air buzzed with excitement and giggles.

During lunchtime, I found myself sitting with Luke and Manny in the courtyard. A comfortable silence settled between us as we enjoyed our sandwiches.

"So, any plans for Valentine's Day?" I asked, trying to sound nonchalant.

Manny's eyes lit up with excitement as he shared his elaborate plans for his crush. Meanwhile, I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment at Luke's response.

"Not really," Luke replied casually. "Probably just hang out at home, maybe catch a movie or something."

I tried to hide my disappointment, forcing a smile. "Oh, that sounds nice."

Before the conversation could continue, the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch. Luke and I exchanged a brief glance, the unspoken tension between us hanging in the air.

As the school day ended, Luke and I walked home together, the chilly February breeze sending shivers down our spines.

"So, about Valentine's Day..." I started, my voice trailing off as I searched for the right words.

Luke turned to me, his expression curious. "Yeah?"

Summoning all my courage, I took a deep breath. "I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go out? Just the two of us, like a secret date?"

A grin spread across Luke's face as excitement sparkled in his eyes. "I love the idea, Isabella. It'll be our little secret."

As we headed to the theater, anticipation bubbled within me. Luke bought tickets to see the new SpongeBob movie that came out a week ago. He bought seats in the way back row, and as we settled into our seats, the darkness of the theater enveloped us.

I got worried if he was going to pull any tricks. The film started, but our attention wasn't entirely on the screen. With each passing moment, the tension between Luke and me grew, the desire to express our feelings becoming almost palpable.

Finally, during a particularly touching scene, Luke reached for my hand, his touch sending a shiver down my spine. Our fingers intertwined, and as we leaned in closer, our lips met in a soft, tender kiss. Time seemed to stand still as we lost ourselves in the moment, the world around us fading away until there was only the two of us.

When the movie ended and the lights came back on, we reluctantly pulled away, but the warmth of our shared moment lingered between us as we made our way out of the theater.

As we walked back to the Dunphy house, the cool night air provided a welcome respite from the intensity of the movie. Luke's hand brushed against mine occasionally, a silent reminder of the connection we shared.

When we arrived home, I made my way to my room, feeling a sense of contentment wash over me. But before I could retreat into the comfort of my own thoughts, Haley intercepted me in the hallway.

"So, how was your date?" she asked, a mischievous twinkle in her eye.

I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment, but I couldn't help but smile at Haley's curiosity. "It was... nice," I replied, trying to sound nonchalant.

Haley raised an eyebrow, clearly not buying my attempt at deflection. "Just nice? Come on, spill the beans. Did you guys kiss?"

I chuckled nervously, feeling my cheeks grow warmer. "Um, yeah... we did....for like the whole...movie...."

Haley's eyes widened in surprise, a grin spreading across her face. "Whoa, the whole movie? You guys really went for it, huh?"

I laughed sheepishly, feeling a rush of embarrassment flood my cheeks. "Yeah, I guess we got a bit carried away."

Haley nudged me playfully, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Well, I'm glad you had a good time. You deserve it, Isabella."

Her words warmed my heart, and I smiled gratefully at her. "Thanks, Haley. It was definitely a Valentine's Day to remember."

With a knowing wink, Haley gave me a playful salute before skipping off down the hallway. As I retreated into my room, I couldn't help but replay the evening's events in my mind, feeling grateful for the unexpected romance that had blossomed between Luke and me.

This is the Luke fit I meant to post last night but I fell asleep lol, my bad. Here it is.

Background: You are a softball player at the University of Michigan. You met Luke while on a recruiting visit to umich and began dating shortly after arriving on campus. The end of hockey season is rapidly approaching as is Luke leaving for New Jersey from Tampa. Talks of Luke leaving have been put off, due to both of you being busy with your respective sports as well as classes, but have been brought up just days before he’s leaving.

It’s angsty but 100% will turn into fluff.

(I’m calling her Isabella but having her go by Bella just because lol)

Bella’s POV

*4 days before the Frozen Four*

“Hey baby.” Luke says as I walk into the sophomore hockey house for our movie night. We haven’t been able to have any time to ourselves lately because I’ve been traveling for softball and Luke has been traveling for hockey and our off time just hasn’t aligned. I smile as I hug him, “Hey lukey.”

“I feel like I haven’t seen you in forever.”

“I know I’m sorry. I’ve been so busy with softball and then class, I just haven’t had much time. I wish I could’ve seen you more often, I know your leaving straight from Tampa.” I say as we settle on the couch.

“Speaking of, can we talk?” He says and pulls away from me.

I turn to face him, “Of course. What’s up?”

“I want you to come to Jersey with me next year.”

I’m speechless. This is the first time we’re talking about this and he wants me to go with him. I want to, I really want to, but I can’t. Or at least right now I can’t. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding and say, “Luke, I can’t.”

“What?” He says back shocked.

“I can’t go to jersey with you.”

“Why not?”

“My whole life is here Luke. I can’t just up and leave it all behind right now. I just can’t.”

“Why not though? I am leaving my life here to go to Jersey and I’m asking you to come with me.”

“And I’m telling you that I can’t. Me going to Jersey is a hell of a lot more complicated than you doing it.”

“You can transfer to Princeton or Rutgers or Columbia or anywhere nearby but I just want you with me baby. Is that so much to ask?” He basically pleads. I take a deep breath to try and calm myself and keep myself from snapping at him and getting upset. I say, “Luke, you don’t get it. It’s not as simple as just transferring to Rutgers or Princeton or Columbia. I just can’t upend my whole life and move to New Jersey right now.”

“Just tell me that you don’t love me then Isabella.” He snaps back and gets up from the couch leaving their living room. I am shocked at his fucking audacity to say that and full name me. That comment hurts a lot. Ever since I met him, I’ve been so hopelessly in love with him and it hurts that he’s saying otherwise to my face.

I get up and follow him, “I never said that I didn’t love you Luke. Do not put words into my mouth. I love you more than anything and you are my whole world Luke but you can’t expect to just pack up and move to New Jersey with you on a fucking whim because you want me to. I have school to finish and a softball career that I spent years building to make a name for myself.”

“It’s not a whim Izzy, it’s my fucking career. You’re the love of my life and I want you to come to jersey and be with me during my rookie year. Is it really that much ask my girlfriend?” He snaps.

I let out a sigh and say, “You aren’t even listening to me Luke.”

“I am listening to you. You’re just being unreasonable.”

“I am not being unreasonable. This isn’t just about you. I had to rebuild myself when I got to michigan coming off what was supposed to be career ending surgery, I cannot physically or mentally go through that again Luke. I left everything I ever knew in Massachusetts for this and I don’t have a family to fall back on if shit hits the fan.”

He looks hurt when I say that. I feel kinda bad about saying it but it’s to emphasize my point. He says back to me with hurt in his eyes, “That’s not fair. I didn’t ask for any of this and you know that Iz.”

He definitely missed my point. I sigh again and say, “I do know that Luke. I also know that I’ve been barely keeping my head above water for the past 3 months between classes, softball, and trying to be the girlfriend you deserve. I can’t just leave. I can’t and it’s frustrating that you aren’t listening to me.”

“Imagine how I must feel then listening to the first girl that I ever told I loved her and the only girl I have ever brought home to my parents that she doesn’t want to move with you for the biggest moment of your life.” He says. I can see it on his face how upset he is that I said that I’m not transferring and going with him.

“I never said that I didn’t want to move Luke. I said that I can’t. There’s a difference. My decision in not going has nothing to do with you and has everything to do with me. You aren’t the only person in this relationship Luke.” I seethe at him.

“Neither are you.” He yells at me.

That’s the first time he’s ever yelled at me in the year and a half we’ve been together. He then yells, “you say that I’m not the only person in this relationship but that’s exactly how your acting right now.”

“I am well aware that I’m not the only person in this relationship Luke. You’re acting like your career with the Devils is more important then my softball career. I love you Luke, I really do. I love you more then anything but I can’t go with you. I need to prioritize myself right now. I cannot and will not upend my whole life and career and move across the country for a boy. I won’t do it.”

“Oh so now I’m now just some boy?”

“That’s not what I mean and you know that.”

“Do I? Because you’re making it sound like your just wasting your time being with me. That you only want to be with me when it’s convenient for you. You’re the first girl I’ve ever loved and the only one I plan on loving and it’s like I mean nothing to you.”

“You mean everything to me, but what about me? You aren’t even considering my life in any of this. You honestly thought I would just pack up everything and move because you asked me to?”

“I didn’t think I needed to ask.”

“And that is my problem Luke. You didn’t think you needed to ask me to move across the fucking country or mention it until 4 days before you fucking left. There’s nothing that you can say that will change my mind, I’m not going with you to Jersey Luke.”

“Then go.”

“What?”

“You heard me. Leave. Get out of my house Isabella.” He spits at me. I can feel the tears welling in my eyes. I just nod quietly as the tears build while grabbing my bag. I walk towards the front door but not without saying loud enough for him to hear, “I’m sorry Luke. I love you.”

I leave the house and instantly burst into tears. I get into my car and try to calm myself down enough to drive home. I calm down to the point that I can make the short drive to my house before I start crying. I don’t even bother trying to wipe my tears before going inside. I walk in and then upstairs and just lock myself in my room and continue to cry in peace.

After a while, there’s a knock on my door, “Bella, are you ok?”

That would be my best friend Lauren. I don’t say anything in hopes she walks away but she doesn’t. I hear her sit on the other side of my door and then she says, “I don’t know what’s wrong but I’m here for you girl.”

I just say nothing and stay locked in my room. A little while later I hear movement on the other side of my door. There’s another a voice that I recognize as Dylan Duke’s says, “Bella? Are you ok? Can we talk?”

I don’t say anything in hopes he gets the hint but he doesn’t and says again, “Bella, I’m just here to talk I promise. I’m sorry about Luke, he’s an ass. I just wanna make sure your ok.”

I roll my eyes aggressively and stand. I open my door to face him knowing that I look like an absolute mess. I snap at him (way harsher than I should’ve because he’s just tryna be a good and he’s not responsible for Luke’s actions), “Well, Dylan, I’m not ok. The guy I had every intention on being with for the rest of my life tried guilt tripping me into moving across the country for him 4 days before he was leaving and when I told him no, he flipped out and kicked me out on the first date night we’ve had in 6 weeks. On top of the fact that I have to pitch tomorrow against the team that gives me the most anxiety 4 days before my boyfriend leaves for good. So no I’m not ok and I’m not gonna be ok. I don’t wanna see you right now Dylan and I certainly don’t wanna talk to him. If he’s done, then so am I. Go home.”

I close the door on him and Lauren and I don’t come out for the rest of the night. I don’t get any sleep last night which sucks because I have a big game today. It doesn’t help that I hate pitching against Minnesota and that I get so anxious that I throw up when it’s my turn to pitch against them. Once the sun is up and the house is awake, I let them know that I’m going to the field early and then just go.

I get there at like 9 and dressed in the warmup gear for that and just chill out by myself for a while until it was time for everyone to come in. They come as it approaches the time for warmups and everything like that.

We go through warmups and soon enough it’s time for the game. I take a deep breath before getting on the mound for the game. Surprisingly, I’m throwing fairly well. I have 4 strikeouts and no hits or walks through the first 3 innings.

After the top of the 3rd, stupid me looks up in the stands and I am met with the sophomores of the hockey team. Luke gives me a soft smile, Ethan waves at me, mark and mackie have smiles on their faces because they love watching me play, and Dylan gives me a sympathetic look. All of a sudden, I want to throw up now.

I get into the dugout and empty the little contents of my stomach into the trash barrel. Lauren comes over and rubs my back while I puke. Once I finish, she hands me a towel to wipe my mouth and a water. She asks, “You ok?”

“He’s here.”

“Who’s here?”

“Luke.” I say and throw up again. I throw up until I hear Audrey say to me, “Hey girl. You’re on deck. You ok?”

“I’m fine. Just the minnesota anxiety.” I say and wipe my mouth again. I slug some water and grab my helmet. I get up to bat and I’m a hot mess. I’m swinging at awful pitches and my head just isn’t in it. I strikeout on 3 pitches to end the inning so I run back and grab my glove to pitch the 4th inning.

I somehow pitched fine for the first two batters and struck them both out but after that, my pitching performance quickly went downhill. I walked the next batter and then hit the girl after that. So now there’s two runners on. I get the next batter down to 2 strikes and then just leave it down the middle. She hits a ground ball up the middle and I roll my ankle hearing a crack as I go to try and field it.

I instantly fall and clutch my ankle in so much pain. Once the play is called dead, the trainer and coach come running out. The trainer asks, “What’s wrong?” I take a deep breath and say, “I rolled my ankle over trying to field the ball. I heard a crack in my ankle.”

“Ok. Is it your push foot or your landing foot?”

“Push."

“Ok. I’m gonna try to move it ok?” He says and moves my foot.

I wince a little bit but do my best to hide the pain. It hurts a lot but I refuse to be taken out so I’m gonna try to tough it out. He then says, “Ok. Let’s get you up and see how it feels standing.”

I stand and it hurts like a bitch but I’m playing. I say, “I think I’ll be fine. Can I try to throw?”

“Of course.”

I get on the mound to throw. I throw a strike but it’s definitely like 10 miles slower but whatever. I’m just tryna make it through the inning. I say to the coaches and trainers, “I’m good.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’m good enough to finish the inning. Promise.” They nod and the game continues. I strike out the next batter to end the inning and coach takes me out to make sure my foot is ok. We win 3-1 and that’s the series.

I grab my stuff and start to head to my car to go home when I see Luke standing by my car. I roll my eyes but don’t say anything trying to act like I don’t see him. He says, “Hey.”

I don’t say anything which prompts him to say again, “Izzy, please. Just hear me out.”

“No.”

“Baby, please.”

“No Luke. You yelled at me and then kicked me out when I told you that I wouldn’t pack up my whole life and future to move for you. I’m not in the mood for this today so please just leave me alone.”

“Are you at least ok? How’s your foot?”

“I’m fine. Go home Luke.”

“I love you Izzy.”

“Yea. I know.” I say getting in my car and leaving. I wanted to jump right into his arms but he hurt me too much to do that. I’m gonna forgive him or let him apologize so quickly. I love him with my whole heart but I am hurt too much right now. He hurt me too much to just forgive so easily.

The Letter - I really love this game!

So, I just finished playing The Letter for the first time and I have to say I really loved it. I think it might be becoming my new hyperfixation because I can't stop thinking about it.

I'm a huge fan of the horror genre and the supernatural aspects of the game alone made it me like it, it's a well put together horror story, not the most scariest I've read if I'm being honest, but it does keep you on edge. It makes you want to keep reading nonstop because you need to know what happens next. At least that was my case, I just couldn't put my phone down.

The story keeps you on edge because it makes you care about the characters. Even if you don't particularly like this or that one, you still care about their destiny (either because you like them and want to see them getting a happy ending or because you dislike them and want to see them suffer), you still want to know how their journey ends. You care, for good or bad.

I love that your decisions as a player actually hold weight and affect the story. How many visual novels have I played where my choices don't actually change anything? Well, in The Letter every little choice you make counts. It'll affect the story, the relationship between characters, the ending, everything. I usually play visual novels only once, even the ones with multiple endings, because most of them don't change much at the end. It's just the same ending with minor changes. The idea of playing it again just to get one different word in the epilogue it's not attractive, but with The Letter the suspense you felt the first time you played it remains for the second, third and all the times you play it.

I love that is a multi-POV story because I think that adds a different perspective not only to the story itself, but to the characters as well. A character that from one POV is perceived as frivolous and cold, in other is seen as kind and warm, for example. It adds depth.

SPOILERS AHEAD, I GUESS?

Now I'll talk about my personal opinion on the characters and ships (because yes, it has romance too, despite being a horror game).

My least favorite is probably Rebecca, and not because she's bad written, quite the opposite actually. All the characters have flaws, some even bigger than Rebecca's, the difference is that she lacks self-awareness. Her little obsession with Ash and the jealousy she felt every time he interacted with Isabella was a big indicator of her lack of self-awareness. She doesn't own up to her shitty behavior (I mean, she does, but it takes for her friends to die or for her to be in the brink of death to realize she wasn't precisely in the right) and I'm not really into characters with this type of characterization. It doesn't mean she isn't well written, because she is, it just means she, as a character, isn't my cup of tea.

Luke, for example, is the most flawed character, yet I still like him better than Rebecca because he's self-aware (and because I love villainous characters). He knows he's a shitty person and doesn't lie to himself about it. He accepts it. He embraces it, even. I like that in character. So, my problem with Rebecca is not that she's an obsessive creepy girl that wants to monopolize Ash because she firmly believes she's entitled to his attention and romantic love just because they've known each other since kids. I actually love the yandere archetype, I love obsessive creepy characters. My problem with her is that she doesn't realize she's that obsessive creepy girl. She doesn't realize she's toxic and a shitty friend to both Ash and Isabella in more than one occasion.

And this too is the reason why I don't like the Ash x Rebecca pairing. Not because I find it problematic (I actually love problematic ships, I mean, c'mon, I love yanderes) but because the ship it's not my kind of problematic. Just a matter of personal taste. So if any shipper sees this please don't get your panties in a twist, thank you.

My favorite character is probably Ashton. I have seen people say that he's the least interesting of them all and that he doesn't have a backstory tragic enough to be the way he is. I literally saw someone ask "what even is his pain?" But I don't believe Ash is supposed to be some Greek tragic character? It's not the way I interpreted it, at leat (yeah, in the true ending he, well, ends tragically, but I still don't think he's supposed to be a tragic character). All the characters are well written and their personalities make sense with their upbringing. His parents divorced when he was very young, way before he was old enough to understand that it wasn't his fault. And after the divorce each parent went to live on their own leaving him alone. He was a child and he was alone. Abandoned, at least that's how his kid's mind perceived it, by his own parents. So, to me, it makes sense for him to build up walls between him and his friends. It makes sense that he doesn't completely trust them. It makes sense that he believes that he knows better. He felt betrayed and abandoned by his own parents, and if his own parents abandoned him then why would people that aren't even related to him by blood not abandon him? He protects himself from that rejection, from that future abandonment, by building up walls. It'll hurt less to be left behind if he doesn't allow himself to get too close to anyone in the first place. I've seen some people say that Ash tries too hard to be a hero, but I don't believe he's trying to be a hero, I believe he's trying to feel worthy. Worthy of friendship, worthy of love, worthy of the people around him, damn, even worthy of being alive. Imagine the blow on a kid's self-esteem after they get "abandoned" by their own parents? If your own parents can't love you enough to stay with you, then who can? Probably no one, right? So he overcompensates. Because yes, he's afraid of abandonment but he also yearns for true long-lasting bonds. So he tries to solve everything by himself not because he believes he's some hero, but because he's trying to show to the people he cares about that he can be reliable, that they can depend on him, so maybe, maybe, they'll want to stay by his side. So maybe they won't abandon him. And each time he fails to prove that he can be reliable, that he can solve things on his own, it's to him a confirmation of his lack of worth. "He thinks he knows everything", yeah, because knowing everything is one of the few ways he knows to prove to himself and to others that he's useful, that he's worthy. I'm not saying you can't find those character traits annoying, that you can't dislike him, I'm just saying that you can't pretend that his characterization doesn't make sense. And when did this post become a dissertation on Ash's characterization? Lol.

The rest of the characters I love too. I just wanted to give my insight in my least and most favorite ones, because if I write something for the seven of them this post would be too long since I have a lot to say about them, in a good way of course.

TL;DR The Letter is an amazing game and if you haven't already played it yet then you have to play it right now, I promise you won't regret it!

Someday Soon-Chapter 5

Pairing: JJ Maybank x Fem!OC

Summary: John B creates a plan to get the Pogues back together to find the gold. At Midsummers Iz takes a leap of faith that she might regret.

Note: Can anyone tell me why I struggle to much to write a two sentence summary that makes sense, meanwhile I can plan out and write a book in a week. The math is not lining up. Also on an unrelated note, I wrote in that Iz is wearing JJ's Mom's dress they found, since I figured that we haven't seen JJ's Mom so she could be the same size as whoever you imagine Iz to be :)

All morning I had been pacing around my room, I hadn’t slept all night. John B was MIA, JJ had been arrested and I had no idea how to help either of them.

Suddenly a sharp knock on my window dragged me out of my thoughts, as I practically jumped out of my own skin. Realizing it was JJ and John B, I made my way over to the window.

��Jesus, you two. You scared me half to death.” I told the pair as I opened my window.

“Sorry, Sweetheart.” JJ apologized with a smile on his face, as I got closer to him I noticed the fresh bruises on his face that he hadn’t had yesterday. I didn’t have to ask where they were from as my stomach turned just thinking about Luke Maybank. “We’re getting outta here, you coming?”

“Uh yeah.” I replied, grabbing my bag before climbing out my window. No one else was home but I knew that the cops who were staking out John B’s house were probably also watching the front of mine.

“John, Iz, hurry up. Come on, come on, come on.” JJ rushed us as we all wadded through the water to reach the HMS Pogue.

Once we had all climbed in, John B turned the key, starting the engine and we were off. I sat catching my breath as we watched the Château fade into the distance.

“First, I almost get strangled to death by Kooks, and now I'm on the hook for 30 grand.” JJ explained bringing John B up to speed on everything he had missed. “We should just dip.”

“Okay, where do you wanna go?” I asked half on board, other than my Mom and Emmy I wouldn’t be leaving behind much.

“Yucatan.” He answered confidently.

“Yucatan? Seriously?” I asked, slightly less on board now that I realized how serious he was.

“No, I'm dead serious right now. Surf all day, and then we can just live off lobsters we catch with our bare hands.” JJ reasoned.

“You just wanna leave 'cause you got your ass beat?” John B spoke up.

“You didn't see the photos.” JJ shuddered.

“Think about it. They're willing to kill for the gold, then it's gotta be out there.” John B said, still holding out hope.

“Have you lost your mind?” I asked, I couldn’t believe he still thought we could find it.

“One hundred years, man. One hundred years, people have been tryin' to find this Royal Merchant, and no one succeeded. And you think you are gonna be the one that actually finds it? When will you get it in your thick skull? If you keep goin' down this road, you're gonna end up just like your dad!” JJ demanded, his voice getting louder as he moved closer to John B.

“I can't give up, you guys!” John B explained, his face full of guilt at the mention of his father.

“What happened to your dad wasn’t your fault.” I spoke softly, resting a hand on John B’s shoulder. We all knew about the argument John B had had with his father before he disappeared, hell I had heard it from my house.

“It doesn't matter whose fault it is! Do you not understand that? I can't give up on the hunt, you guys. I don't care who's out there, who's gonna try to kill us. Do you understand that?” John B told him. “Look, I've got a plan. You comin' or what?” he asked looking between us. “Four hundred million, JJ. How much do you owe in restitution?”

JJ looked back at me before following John B back to the Pogue where he began explaining his plan.

‘This is an awful plan’ was all I could think as I rang the doorbell at Kie’s house. John B had explained to me that I would go to Midsummers with Kie and make sure JJ got in fine, so that he could deliver a note to Sarah Cameron. I had asked why I couldn’t just deliver it if I was already there to which John B explained I would have to distract Kie so that she wouldn’t find out Sarah was involved. I was about to ring the doorbell again when Kie’s mother opened the door.

“Oh, Isabella.” She said, the smile dropping slightly from her face. “How are you?”

“I’m good thank you. Um Kie invited me to join her at Midsummers tonight, so I’m here to get ready.” I explained holding up the old dress we had found in JJ’s attic, I assumed it had been his mother’s.

“Oh really?” She asked, pasting a clearly fake smile on her face. “She didn’t warn me.”

“Well, she asked me weeks ago, maybe she forgot to tell you?”

“Of course, come in. Kiara’s in her room.” She said opening the door wider.

I walked through the huge house and towards Kie’s room, I wasn’t over here much but it always reminded me of the house my parents used to have which was just down the street from here.

“That’s not a party face.” I teased as I walked into Kie’s bedroom where she was sitting at the end of her bed. She looked up with a scowl before realizing it was me.

“What are you doing here?” She asked, pulling me into a hug. “Here to break me out?”

“Unfortunately I’m here to break in.” I responded.

“Kiara, you didn’t tell me that you had invited Isabella to join us.” Kie’s mom said as she walked into the room. “Here, we ordered a couple extra hair pieces, I’m assuming you just brought the dress.”

“Oh, yeah. I didn’t know those were a requirement.” I answered with an awkward laugh.

“Well, we're leaving in 30 minutes.” She said leaving the room again.

“Hair pieces?” I asked, I couldn’t help but smile as I turned to Kie who was laughing at my question.

As much as I didn’t want to be there, I was amazed at everything I saw as we entered the club. I couldn’t believe that the Kook’s were spending their nights dancing without a single worry meanwhile my house still had no power or hot water going to it.

“Oh there’s Pope.” I pointed out to Kie as we made our way outside.

“Excuse me, sir. Do we have to shuck these ourselves?” Kie asked in a terrible English accent. “'Cause it might mess up my costume.”

“We wouldn't want that now, would we?” Pope responded, playing along once he realized it was us. “That accent was bad.”

“It was.” She agreed as we all laughed.

“You ever seen this many Kooks in one place?” I asked, looking around the crowded club.

“Yeah. Last year.” Pope informed us. “We're in the lion's den.” He stated, he was still pretty shook up from his last visit to Figure Eight. “Hey, have you two heard from JJ?”

“Uh yeah, he should be joining us shortly.” I told them cryptically. “I’m gonna do a lap.” I said before I left to give the two some space.

I made my way over to the bar hoping that they would be willing to serve a minor.

The bartender that the Kook’s had hired didn’t seem to care who she served and had poured me a rum and cola without a second thought. I had already downed one and was now taking a second drink with me as I walked closer to the dance floor to watch all the Kook’s. As I finished my drink I noticed someone walk up beside me.

“You know somethin’ tells me you aren’t 21.” I heard JJ accuse as I set down my now empty glass.

“What?” I laughed while he took my hand and led me to the middle of the dance floor. “They would never serve a minor, that might tarnish the clubs perfect reputation.”

“You look beautiful, Sweetheart.” JJ complimented as he spun me around before pulling me back to him.

“Yeah you clean up alright.” I teased him. “What is this a clip on bow tie?”

“Yeah John B made me wear it.” He explained looking down at his feet.

“I’m just teasing you, it’s nice.” I smiled. “I wasn’t sure how long I’d survive without you here.”

“Eh, you woulda been fine. I’m sure the Kook instincts that you’ve suppressed, would kick in eventually.” He told me, I couldn’t stop laughing at everything he said but I figured that was because of the two drinks I had just downed.

“I’m so happy to see you, I could kiss you.” I confessed boldly, after we danced in silence for a minute.

“Why don’t you?” He asked, a smile playing on his lips.

So I did, before I could think about the repercussions or about what would change. I closed the gap between us as our lips met. For that one perfect moment everything seemed alright as I melted into the kiss.

But as I pulled back it all shattered, JJ’s face had a look of shock written over it as his arms dropped from around me.

“I have to go, find Sarah.” He explained turning to go search the rest of the dance floor, while I stood watching him go. Immediately I regretted what I had done, I wondered if I had just lost my best friend as I watched him disappear into the crowd.

After snapping myself out of the trance I was in, I pushed my way through the crowd looking for Kie, hot tears threatening to spill over onto my cheek. I had just kissed JJ, something I had wanted to do for years and yet it felt like the biggest mistake I’d ever made. I found Kie after a minute talking to some Kook I didn’t recognize.

“You’re gonna have to excuse us.” I apologized as I pulled Kie away and towards the edge of the party.

“What’s up.” She asked once we had stopped, the smile dropping from her face once she finally looked at me.

“I kissed JJ.” I answered, my voice quiet.

“What.” Kie blurted out, shocked.

“He showed up and we were dancing and he was complimenting me and I had just been drinking and so then I told him that I was so happy I could kiss him and he said <why don’t you> so then I did and then he ran away.” I rambled.

“Oh honey.” Kie muttered, pulling me into a hug as the tears finally left my eyes, trailing down my cheeks and onto her shoulder. “JJ is dumb, okay and I’m sure he has no idea what he did. You said John B had a plan so he probably just had to do that, right?”

“Yeah.” I answered unsure. “But what if this messes up everything?”

“It won’t. I promise.” Kie reassured me as she wiped away my tears. “Come on let’s go get something to eat.”

Kie led me back through the crowd, her hand never leaving mine as we went back to the table her parents were sitting at.

Sitting next to Kie, I was eating some kind of fancy food that I had forgotten how to pronounce when we heard shouting from behind us. Turning to see who it was, we saw JJ being escorted out.

“Look... look, man, I can walk myself.” JJ tried to explain. “I got legs. Can you see that, brother? Come on. I really appreciate what you did back there. Let me just walk out by myself.”

“What the Hell?” I heard Kie’s Dad mutter from behind us as JJ was pushed past our table.

“It's okay, everybody! Do not panic.” JJ addressed the crowd. “Leave it to the men and women in uniform. Let's hear it for them. Rose! You look like Lady Liberty.”

“Let go of him! You can't boot him! I invited him here. I'm a member of this club.” Kie told the guard as we both stood up. But the guard continued to lead JJ through the crowd away from where we stood.

“Hey, mandatory power hour at Rixon's, Kie, Iz.” JJ pointed to us. “Pope, you as well, all right?”

Kie looked at me with a smile before grabbing my hand.

“No. Kiara! Hey, Kiara!” Kie’s parents yelled as we ran off to join the boys.

With all of us ditching the party, the Pogues were reunited.

“Hey, guys. So, like, my dad's already gonna kill me.” Pope told us as we gathered around the fire John B had made. “So what's this mandatory meeting about?”

“Might as well tell him, man, before we're gaffed.” JJ said to John B.

“You ready for this?” John B asked looking at us all. “So, the gold never went down with the Royal Merchant.”

“Oh, my God. Here we go again with this.” Kie rolled her eyes from her spot beside me.

“No. All right, wait. Hear him out, okay?” I said, hoping John B would get on with his explanation.

“It's been here the whole time.” John B told us. “It's on the island.”

“I'd like to voice my skepticism.” Pope spoke up.

“I'm sure you would, Pope, but can I please present you with my evidence, sir?”

“Proceed.”

“Okay, so, guys.” Pope began after John B explained everything he had learned. “What's the plan?”

“Good question.” John B answered. “Sarah Cameron's coming tonight. She'll bring an original survey map…”

“Hold on.” Kie stopped him, I could feel her tense up beside me. “Sarah? Wh-why Sarah?”

“Um…” John B started, stumbling over his words.

“This is gonna be good.” I muttered.

“Sarah, um, she... she got me into the archives in Chapel Hill yesterday, and that's where I got the letter.”

“You were in Chapel Hill with Sarah Cameron?” Kie asked, shocked.

“He was mackin' on her.” JJ told us.

“I wasn't macking. I wasn't macking on her, okay? I was using her for access. I was trying to get into the archives.” John B attempted to explain.

“There was access all right.” JJ muttered.

“Is that a yes?” Kie demanded. “You let a Kook in on our secret? What about Pogue Lyfe?”

“I was just using her for information.”

“Why don't I believe you?”

“I'm trying to make us filthy rich here. Okay, so that we can pay off a boat, or... or, uh... send you to autopsy school to study dead bodies, or move to Hawaii. Look, you guys know me. Do I look like the type of person to fall for Sarah Cameron?”

“Uh... Do you want us to answer that, or…” I asked him.

“Look, you don't know her yet. I do!” Kie explained. “You can't trust her.”

“What did she do to you, exactly?” John B finally asked, we all were curious, she had only told me pieces of the story before.

“She's like a... like a spitting cobra. First, she... she blinds you, and then…” She stopped as Pope poked holes in her analogy. “Listen to me! Whatever we get, she's gonna try to take.”

The lights of the van turned on as we stopped at the Hawks nest, waking me up again, it felt like days since I had last slept well making it easy to doze off.

“All right.” John B said, turning off the van. “So, uh, I think I'm gonna do this one by myself... tonight.”

“Really?” Kie asked, shocked.

“What?” John B asked as if he had done nothing wrong. “I don't want to spook Sarah with the peanut gallery.”

“I just don't understand why we're involving her at all.”

“Kie, we're not involving her, okay?”

“Promise me nothing's happening between you.”

“Nothing is happening, Kie.”

“That was really believable.” I spoke up sarcastically from the back of the van as John B climbed out.

“A hundred percent believable.” Pope said, backing me up.

“Anyways, um... I'm gonna take care of business.” John B concluded before closing the door.

“We'll just sit here…” Pope started.

“...in the hot-ass car.” JJ added.

“Kiara, holding onto your grudge is like drinking poison and thinking Sarah will die.” Pope informed Kie after a few minutes.

“Exactly.” JJ added backing him up. “You alright back there?” He asked me.

“She’s great JJ. Really doing awesome thanks to you.” Kie responded for me, which brought a smile to my face as I drifted off to sleep again.

I woke up again when the rest of the Pogues started to scramble out of the van, which is when I heard Sarah Cameron screaming for help. I got up with my friends and we all went running to go see what had happened.

Everything was a blur when we finally found them.

John B was lying on the ground as Sarah cried over him. He was moving but barely as Pope rushed back to get the van and get him to a hospital. After we got John B to the hospital a nurse told us to go home and that he would be fine. After some convincing we all finally left. Pope drove us all to our houses, the ride was silent.

When I entered my house it was dark and everyone else had probably been asleep for hours, I went straight to the bathroom to get ready for bed. As I walked back into my room from the bathroom, I heard a knock on my window. But from inside my dark room I couldn’t see anything, I figured it was just the wind until another unmistakably human knock shook the window. Grabbing the flashlight which was my only light source I crept closer to the window, worried about who might be knocking.

Once I got to the window though, JJ’s golden hair lit up on the other side of the glass. I pushed open the window before taking a step back so he could climb through.

“What are you…” I started to ask before he interrupted me.

“I um, I wasn’t sure where to go. I’d rather not be at home right now.” He explained, looking anywhere but my face.

“Oh, yeah. You can stay here.” I knew he didn’t want my pity but I couldn’t help the sad expression my face held.

“Listen, Iz. I’m really sorry, I shouldn’t have run off after we kissed. I just-I wasn’t sure what to do.” JJ began rambling, this time it was my turn to interrupt him.

“Can we not tonight? We can talk about it later.” I was too exhausted to have a serious conversation. “I just want to go to bed.”

“Oh okay.” He responded, I walked across the room to my bed before I watched him take one of the blankets off the bed and begin laying it out on the floor.

“JJ, what are you doing?” I asked, rubbing my eyes.

“You said you wanted to go to bed. I’m making myself a bed.” He explained confused.

“You’ve been beaten up how many times this week?” I asked. “I’m not making you sleep on the floor when there is more than enough room in my bed.”

Without another word he stood back up and made his way to the other side of the bed. Once he was under the blanket I turned off the lamp before turning so I was facing him. I could barely make out his features, the only light coming from the bright moon outside, but I knew he was there.

“Can you tell me a story?” He asked, I smiled, his question reminded of when I would help put Emmy to bed.

“About what?”

“Hawaii, tell me about what it’s going to be like.”

“What are you moving with me?” I joked.

“Well, if you’ll have me.”

“Of course I will.” I stated before pausing to think about what our life would be like if we could move to Hawaii. “We could buy a big piece of land, with a waterfall and a path that leads right to the beach, and we could build a little house right beside the waterfall.”

“You mean I could build us a house.” He interrupted, trying to be realistic even as I told him a story about our imaginary future.

“Hey I’m the one telling the story.” I complained. “And besides I’ve been getting good at holding tools, I could probably identify upwards of five different tools.”

“Okay, proceed.” He stated, impatiently waiting for me to continue.

“We could spend all day surfing and get a hammock, the best that money can buy.” I continued, adding random details.

“Do you think our friends will visit?” I heard him ask sleepily.

“Yeah, we’ll have a little guest house on the other side of the waterfall for them. John B can bring Sarah, I’m sure they’ll get married as soon as they possibly can.” I said, imagining all our friends grown up.

“Oh definitely, he’s already in love with her.” JJ added.

“And I’m sure that they’ll have a herd of children that follow them around everywhere they go like little ducklings. And Kie and Pope will be together.”

“That is if Pope ever works up the courage to ask her out.”

“That or Kie will just give up waiting and ask him out.” I joked before going back to my story. “I don’t know if they’ll have kids though, I think that they’ll just be the really cool uncle and aunt for awhile.”

“What about us? Are we gonna get married and have kids?” JJ asked after a minute.

“Well that depends if you ever propose.” I pointed out thinking about our future.

“Maybe I’m waiting for you to propose to me. Ever think about that?”

“No I hadn’t.” I paused for a minute before I kept talking. “JJ Maybank will you…”

“Hey, hey, hey. I’m only sixteen, at least take me out on a date first.” He interrupted my question.

“How do you know that I was proposing you didn’t let me finish.” I explained before asking the question again. “JJ Maybank will you, pass me some more of the blanket, you’re really hogging it and I’m getting cold.”

“Oh that was just cruel.” He pouted, as I laughed at my dumb question.

“What you didn’t even want to be proposed to yet.”

“Well I wasn’t going to say yes but I would have liked you to ask.”

“Oh my gosh.” I shook my head at him before I continued to talk about our family. “I think we’d have three kids and they would all look exactly like you. A girl, who is ridiculously smart and kind and helpful. And twins, boys, who are absolute terrors.” I paused looking at JJ whose eyes were beginning to close. “But every night, just as they fall asleep. They look so peaceful and you remember why you love them so much.”

Once I had finished talking I turned so that my back was facing JJ before I finally started to drift off to sleep. As I closed my eyes I felt a warm arm snake around my waist and pull me closer while JJ nuzzled his face into the back of my neck.

“Jade, Jesse and Jacob.” He mumbled, his breath fanning across my neck. It took me a minute to realize he was naming the kids that I had just described.

“Of course you would want all of their names to start with J.” I smiled, on the brink of falling asleep.

“It’s the best letter of the alphabet, Sweetheart.” He responded just before I fell fast asleep.

Luke and I have been together for years, since we found out we were soulmates in fact. Having a soulmate is great and all, but you can’t lie to them and sometimes little white lies are needed. Currently that was a problem for me.

“Hello?” I answered my phone.

“Y/N/N! It’s Isabella, I need your help!” My sister said and my eyes widened.

“Bella? But you’re…” I trailed off. She had been in a mental hospital since she was a kid because she kept trying to her other kids her age.

“I escaped! Please you need to help me, I don’t want to keep hurting them.” She begged.

“Hurting who?” I asked.

“They’re telling me to! They’ll hurt you if I don’t, please you need to help me!” She cried.

“Tell me where you are Bella.” I said.

“No! You’ll tell that FBI agent boyfriend of yours! No one can know!” She said.

“I won’t, I promise.” I begged.

“No, you can’t lie to him, remember?” She said and I sighed.

“Please Bella, just tell me.” I begged again.

“Just help me.” She said and hung up. I have no idea what I should do. I could never betray my sister like our parents did, but was she really hurting someone? Or was it just because she was clearly off her medication?

Later that night I got a call from Luke.

“Hey baby, I have to stay late tonight. We got a local case.” He said with a sigh.

“Don’t worry about it. What’s the case this time?” I asked.

“It’s pretty bad, are you sure you want to know?” He asked.

“I would.” I answered.

“Someone’s been kidnapping people and writing help me in their blood.” He answered and my heart dropped.

“Y/N? Are you alright?” He asked.

“No, I’m not.” I answered and cursed myself, stupid soulmates.

“What’s wrong?” He asked, worry clear in his voice. I sighed, knowing that I needed to answer.

“I know who’s doing this…” I whispered.

“What?” He asked shocked.

“I’m coming down there.” I said and hung up.

I quickly drove down to the office and went up to their floor. As soon as I stepped off the elevator Luke noticed me.

“Y/N, what the hell were you talking about on the phone? You know who’s doing this?” He asked confused.

“It’s my sister.” I said with a sigh.

“Y-You have a sister?” He asked and I nodded.

“My parents don’t talk to her and they changed our last name so she was no longer part of our family. She’s been in a mental hospital since she was ten.” I said and his eyes widened.

“Why?” He asked.

“She was trying to hurt other kids and my parents put her in the hospital. The hospital said she had the start of schizophrenia. I know it’s rare, but they said it was getting worse with her age, but with her medications it's manageable.” I said.

“But how do you know it’s her?” He asked.

“She called me earlier and asked me to help her. She begged me not to tell you and I was debating on keeping it from you or not.” I sighed.

“You were going to try and keep this from me?” He asked shocked.

“She’s my sister Luke, I’m not gonna betray her like my parents did.” I said and he sighed.

“I get it, but people are being hurt!” He said.

“And I’m telling you now! But please, you need to get her help. Please, you can’t send her to jail.” I begged.

“I’ll do everything I can.” He promised and took me into the bullpen.

“Stay here.” He said sitting me down at his desk. He walked back into the meeting room and I watched him explain what I told him.

Luke kept me at the office just in case my sister came to the house and tried to hurt me. But I knew she wouldn’t do that. Hours went by and Luke came back to his desk.

“We found her, we’re gonna get her right now.” He said, putting on his vest.

“Let me come, she won’t hurt me.” I said.

“No, we can’t take that chance.” He said.

“Luke please, she’s my sister.” I begged.

“She’s killed people Y/N!” He said.

“If you won’t let me go then bring her back here, please?” I asked and he sighed.

“Fine, I’ll do my best.” He said and kissed my head.

“Thank you.” I said with a smile.

I waited at the office and I couldn’t help but panic. Garcia was there to help keep my mind off things, but it was never fully gone. Soon enough the doors to the elevator opened and Luke was there with my sister in cuffs.

“Y/N! She said and I smiled at her.

“Bella!” I said, rushing over to her. I engulfed her in a hug and she started crying.

“I didn’t want to hurt them…” She said and I held her tightly.

“I know.” I said and kissed her head.

“They said they’d hurt you.” She said.

“Hey, I’m okay. Everything’s gonna be okay.” I said and looked at Luke behind her.

‘Thank you’ I mouthed to him and he smiled.

“Hey Bella, now I can introduce you to Luke.” I said smiling at her.

“Luke, this is my sister Isabella, Bella, this is my soulmate Luke.” I said.

“It’s nice to meet you Isabella.” Luke said with a smile.

“Luke and I are going to take you to a new hospital and I’ll visit you every week and Luke will come when he doesn’t have work, right baby?” I asked and he nodded.

“Yeah, I’d love to get you know you better.” He said and she smiled.

“Thank you Y/N/N.” Bella whispered and buried her head in my chest.
