the only son of angela and luis rivera, robbie was born in detroit, michigan where he lived for the first 7 years of his life. his childhood until that age was good, excellent even. his father, a mexican immigrant, was well-known in their little tight-knit community. they weren’t the richest, but they were happy. angela was working as a server in the little diner near home and luis had been lucky enough to find a job at the steel factory. things were good, things were stable. they had many friends, their home was always full. his grandmother, francesca, was also living with them, and mostly taking care of young robbie when his parents were working hard.  robbie was a smiling child, back then. always teasing, joking; a real prankster.  this all changed when his parents died in a car accident, one fateful night. nothing could have predicted this would happen to them. his abuela had left robbie to their neighbours, the d’angelos, so they could care for him until she came back. robbie liked the d’angelos, his parents’ best friends, well enough. he’d always been a bit intimidated by abel, but there was more admiration than anything. and at that moment, robbie didn’t know what happened to his parents yet.  when abuela came back, a few days later, it was with an air of quiet devastation that hung heavily between them. she sat him down in the living room where sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting long shadows on the floor. robbie could feel something was wrong, but the words didn’t come until later—until after she wrapped her arms around him, holding him so tightly that it felt like she was trying to keep the world from collapsing on both of them. he would always remember what she told him then:  “they’re gone, mijo. your mamá y papá... they’re never coming back.” robbie had stared at her then, face blank, unsure how to process it. he didn’t understand death, not really. not yet. not like this, a sudden emptiness that ripped the foundation from under him. and it seemed that the world was not done with him; a few months later, a few weeks shy of his parents’ funeral, abuela got sick.  in a twisted display of fate, robbie found himself alone. utterly, and completely alone. emptiness filled him, and gone was the young boy who used to play pranks on mrs. d’angelo. replacing him was a boy with a severe expression on his face.

being in the same vicinity to death so early in life made him more curious than anything. robbie had refused to let himself be submerged by fear; he would conquer it, in any way he could. from a young age, his dream was to become a doctor.  although his adoptive parents always tried to help with school, he knew they weren’t the richest. And the last thing Robbie ever wanted was to become a weight to them. he’d always been an a-grade student, very serious and studious, and had always taken his future into his own hands. with his sights set on something bigger, something more than the small town life they all seemed stuck in, he decided to enroll in the army. the military offered him an opportunity to not only pay for his education but also to serve something greater than himself. for sure, he faced some resistance, but robbie had made up his mind and his decision to pursue medicine in the army had been taken carefully. not only could he satisfy his immense interest in science, he knew that he could make a real difference. the army would offer him that: a chance to help those in need. sure, joining the military wasn’t without sacrifice, but he knew the costs. he accepted them. the promise of a scholarship was too good to pass, and he knew that it would only help him secure a stable future. and anyway, it was just a few years after medical school, what could happen? little did he know, the army shaped him in ways he couldn’t anticipate. the training was intense, the discipline grueling. but the hardest part—far beyond the physical—was the toll it would take on him, on his heart, and on his mind. however, for now, robbie focused on his dream: to become a doctor, no matter the cost. his soft heart would need to harden itself if he wanted to honor his parents’ sacrifices.

robbie had met selina, a young, sparkly young woman who worked as an administrative assistant in medical school. they were of similar backgrounds; small-town kids coming to the big city to learn and make something out of themselves. they hit it off right away and what followed was years of deep passion. while robbie worked hard to make himself as impenetrable as possible, selina softened him up. made himself believe he could be loved, like that. a wedding ensued, where only the guy at the townhall helping them with the papers had been privy to. they didn’t have much time. because then robbie got deployed.  and while he came back a few times in-between tours, selina had been left alone. alone with their daughter, marina.  after his second tour, selina gave birth to miguel. the dates didn’t fit, but robbie didn’t want to see the truth. as much as his family tried to warn him about selina, he couldn’t listen to them. because he had a family of his own now, and honestly, they were the only thing keeping his sanity in check at that moment.

career.

after ten years of military service where he did three tours, robbie retired from the army. not in one piece, though. far from it. he always found the house quiet, too quiet. the sound of fireworks on the fourth of july sent him diving under the dining table. crowds made him sweat. the guilt gnawed at him—why had he survived when so many others hadn’t? sure, therapy helped. but anger filled him way too often, and his marriage was failing, and he was failing, and robbie had never been good at being bad.  after his divorce, he moved back to red creek, took a job as an emergency doctor at the hospital, because it was the only thing he was good at. though every child either reminded him of his own daughter or the kids he’d never been able to save back in afghanistan, robbie pushed through.

MY OLD ASS (2024)

Despite having one of the worst titles of the year – perhaps thevery worst one – My Old Ass turns out to be a sweet and charming coming-of-age film with a slight supernatural bent.

The film’s high concept – that a teen girl named Elliott (Maisy Stella) is smoking mushrooms with friends in the woods and somehow comes into contact with her 39-year-old self (Aubrey Plaza) and ends up being able to continue to communicate with her future self and learn about what is coming for her life, for better or worse – is a fascinating and intriguing idea. Yet, at the same time, this plot thread is mostly dropped for long periods of the film, and honestly, it’s not missed all that much.

This seems like a strange statement to make because Aubrey Plaza is terrific as adult Elliott and every time that she is on screen the film perks up. Still, I could see a variation of this story without the whole idea of the older Elliott, and it probably still would work out pretty well.

Elliott is a high school senior, comfortable in her lesbianism, who lives in a gorgeous farm by a lake in the wilds of Canada. She hangs out with her friends and girlfriend and can’t wait to go off to Toronto for college and leave her small town behind.

During the mushrooms episode, adult Elliott tells her a certain amount about what will happen to her and how her life will turn out. She also has one specific piece of advice for her younger self – to stay away from a boy named Chad. Of course, she meets him soon after that, and to her surprise, Elliott – who had never even considered that she may be bi or even straight – finds herself having feelings for him. This puts her in an awkward position, she has been warned away from this guy but finds herself drawn to him.

In the meantime, other parts of her world start to fall apart when she finds that her father is planning to sell the family farm. While Elliott felt that she was desperate to leave the place behind, she never imagined that it wouldn’t still be there for her if she ever wanted or needed to return. This puts strain on her relationships with her father, mother and brothers.

To make things worse, suddenly she is unable to contact her older self to talk it all over and get advice about what she could and should do with her life. So, she tries haltingly to figure it all out for herself.

My Old Ass turns out to be a sweet and charming look at growing up, surprisingly funny and heartfelt. It’s definitely worth giving a chance, despite its title.

Backstage X Bar Boys Part 1: Rafael

Shortly after filming and promotions for "Coco" is completed, Héctor and Ernesto decide to visit a new bar in town. There they meet three men, two of which also work in the industry but to varying levels while the other one is the bartender/owner of the bar.

Let's talk about Rafael Herrera Meza first:

Rafael Herrera Meza is a triple threat in the industry, and is the second Latino entertainer ever who has won an EGOT (followed by Robert Lopez, another talented songwriter who co-wrote "Remember Me" with Héctor), while also working as a talent scout/music producer. His charisma stage presence is on-par with Ernesto's and Héctor's, and his baritone voice is second to none. However, off-stage he is a shy and anxious man with the driest humor known to mankind.

He used to act in telenovelas, movies, and musical theater during his prime as an actor before making music production his main thing.

If you think Imelda Rivera's social media life is private, Rafael's is even more private nearly to the point of nonexistence. Nobody knows anything of him outside of his career. His strong feelings towards the paparazzi, his age (he's around forty or so, and yet he already has a few streaks of white on his jet black hair), and his familial connections to the Herrera Oil Company also play a role in making him extremely private. He is also very rarely seen on interviews and social events, unless he has an obligation to attend.

Because of how private he is, whenever a project is revealed and Rafael is somehow involved it is considered as a major cultural event. The thing is, he also up in the most unexpected places. One minute you can see him as part of the cast for a Hispanic remake of Parks & Recreation as its equivalent to Ron Swanson, then the next time you see him he is on the cover of Vogue México along with his longtime friend/protégé Ronaldo, and then you see his name in the voice actor credits part of a video game or an animated series, then you see his name as the producer for México's greatest hit of the season, and if you are extremely lucky you can even see him sing with the local mariachi just for the fun of it.

He is very embarrassed to admit it, but he is more than aware of how women see him. Particularly younger women. Their reaction towards him is similar to how people see men like Pedro Pascal, Hugh Jackman, and Oscar Isaac. He did think of becoming a father before deciding on the life of an eternal bachelor, but being called "daddy" or "papí" in this context is not what he signed up for. He does appreciate the gifts from fans. After his trusted secretary Brenda sorts through them, of course.

He is just as shy and anxious as he is private, and this goes up by the tenfold when he is with a woman he is romantically interested in. And it just so happens that the woman he has been crushing on for a while is none other than the renowned opera singer/actress, Rosita Álvarez, who was also a supporting actress for "Coco" as Tía Rosita. Héctor and Ernesto, along with Miguel have been trying to set a date for the two of them.

Rafael met Rosita during a charity concert the both of them were a part of. Rafael was impressed with Rosita's soprano and wished to work with her. Well, that's what he would tell you. In reality, he was smitten the moment their eyes met when it was his turn to get on stage. Rafael noticed Rosita gazing at him from her seat, and before he knew it he winked at her as an attempt to flirt.

News of Rafael Herrera and Rosita Álvarez dating was well received by fans of both parties, with references to them being the cutest middle-aged couple. Their relationship is also just as private as Héctor and Imelda's, if not more due to Rafael's dislike of paparazzi and the fact that paparazzi don't go after opera singers that much either, much to Rosita's delight.

After around three years of dating, they got married at a church near Rafael's childhood home in Jalisco. The wedding was simple and was only attended by family and friends including the cast of "Coco", but due to Mamá Herrera's insistence on something more lavish for the two of them she gifted Rafael and Rosita tickets for a cruise all around the world. Photos of them on their honeymoon started circulating online and people loved their wholesome vibe, even long after their honeymoon.

Kail Lowry Says She’s Considered Adopting or Fostering Kids

Kail has shot out seven—count ’em— seven babies over the past 15 years, and the former ‘Teen Mom 2′ star has made it clear that her baby birthin’ days are over. While Kail insists she will not be shooting out any more kids, that doesn’t mean her family will stop growing.

During the most-recent episode of her Barely Famous podcast, Kail revealed that she is very open to the idea of adopting or fostering a kid (or kids) who need a home. She also talked about why she doesn’t want to have any more pregnancies, despite her live-in lover, Elijah Scott, feeling like he may not be done having biological kids. (As fan know Kail and Elijah share infant twins Valley and Verse, as well as son Rio. She shares sons Lux and Creed with Chris Lopez, son Lincoln with her ex-husband Javi Marroquin, and son Isaac with ex Jo Rivera.)

“I definitely think that the journey of me carrying children is over, and I’m confident in that,” Kail said. “I’m solid in that decision. I’ve loved my time [pregnant] and I appreciate the opportunity, but we’re moving on now. That chapter has closed.”

Kail mentioned that Elijah– who got a vasectomy earlier this year— had a bit of “snippers’ remorse.”

“I don’t know if it’s regret. Just, like, realizing that that door has closed, that chapter has ended kind of thing,” Kail said.

While she may not want to birth another child, Kail said she is interested in expanding the family even more.

“Would I adopt a child? Maybe I would explore an opportunity like that,” she said. “Maybe not even adopt, but, like, maybe foster a child. I feel like that would be more of something that I would entertain more than, like, IVF or something. Because that feels like a lot. And, I don’t know; I would rather help another child that needs a home than bring another one in. Like, I think 7 is a lot.”

Kail— who, earlier in the podcast episode revealed that, counting her live births and miscarriages, she had been pregnant for more than 10 years of her life– said she doesn’t want to shoot out any more babies.

“This has been a 15-year journey for me. Right? Like, I’ve been having kids for 15 years,” she said, adding that Elijah has “only” welcomed three babies in three years, so he’s more open to having another one.

“We don’t have three toddlers yet,” she said. “When we have three toddlers, he might be like, ‘Wow. I’m glad that we didn’t continue with our own.’

“With the foster[ing] situation, I don’t know what that looks like. I’ve never explored it,” Kail added. “I’ve never really entertained it before, but we might be able to foster, you know, a baby and then hopefully they would reunite with their mom or their parents. Or we could foster a toddler or an older kid and that might be a very different experience, too. Like, that would fulfill us in a different way.”

Kail— who also recently had her tubes tied— said that she is not interested in pursuing IVF to get another baby.

“Like, I personally am not willing to put my body through it. I don’t wanna deal with the hormones,” she said. “I get it, that’s some people’s only option. But for me, personally, I would rather explore the idea of, like, adoption, foster, surrogacy.”

Kail said she has even brought up the topic of adoption to her plethora of kids.

“I asked the kids …I was like, ‘Hey, what would you guys say about, like, adopting a toddler?’ Lincoln was like, ‘Can you adopt one my age so we can play soccer?’ And I’m like, ‘You literally have siblings for that.’ I was thinking more so, like, toddler and up…Those are the children that need homes. Kail is not the only ‘Teen Mom’ alum with a desire to adopt a child. Maci Bookout has stated for years that she and her husband Taylor McKinney would like to adopt or foster a child; however, in April she said that she and Taylor are not currently in the position to do so. However, Maci remains open to the idea.

“Even if it was fostering and not adoption–- just fostering in hopes that they do find adoptive parents-– I could never take it off the table,” she said during an interview last month. “But right now, it’s just not realistic for what we wouldn’t be able to give, everything that would need to be given and what we want to provide. It’s just not possible right now.”

David Eason Reportedly Bans Daughter Ensley from Filming ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ Season 2

Jenelle Evans’ return to the ‘Teen Mom’ franchise has hit a snag, leaving her with one less person to film with.

As The Ashley previously told you, shortly after kicking her swampmate David Eason to the broken down boat curb earlier this year, Jenelle was asked to return to the franchise she was previously fired from. However, according to The Sun, David is not allowing his and Jenelle’s seven-year-old daughter Ensley to partake in the filming festivities. 

The aspiring “rapper”– who was fired from MTV back in 2018– reportedly told ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ producers “no” when they contacted him to get permission for Ensley to film with Jenelle and Jenelle’s two other children, Jace and Kaiser.

“David hates MTV,” a source told the outlet. “There was no way he was going to allow them to film with Ensley after they fired him and then Jenelle.

“They’ll have a really hard time filming around Ensley, she’s a whole personality so I’m not sure how that will go down,” the source added.

While Jenelle’s oldest son Jace will be able to film without issue as his father, Andrew Lewis, doesn’t have custody or any rights to the 14-year-old, nine-year-old Kaiser– whom Jenelle shares with former fiancé Nathan Griffith– will only be able to film under certain conditions, per Nathan.

“Nathan knows the kids being on the show can set them up in the future,” a source told The Sun. “He’s currently in talks with MTV and he’s ready to allow Kaiser to be filmed, he just wants to make sure the money is protected for his son before he gives a definitive yes.”

As The Ashley has previously stated, parents who have shared custody of a child (like Jenelle and David currently have for Ensley) have to both consent in order for the child to film for the show. 

Javi Marroquin & Lauren Comeau Reveal Why They Chose the name Maizee Joelle For Their Daughter

Former ‘Teen Mom 2’ dad Javi became a girl dad last week when his longtime girlfriend, Lauren, gave birth to their daughter. As The Ashley previously reported, the baby girl (who is Javi’s third child and Lauren’s second) came a few weeks early and hadn’t been given a name when the couple announced her birth.

Over the weekend, though, Lauren and Javi announced that they have named their daughter Maizee Joelle Marroquin…and the Internet had…thoughts… on the interesting spelling chosen. In a series of comments on the Instagram name announcement post, Lauren revealed the way she and Javi came up with the baby’s name and it’s unique spelling.

Maizee–pronounced “May-zee,” according to Lauren— was chosen by her, Javi, their son Eli and Javi’s son Lincoln.

“It was on my short list [of baby names] and then we let the boys chose between my top 2 [names] when they came to visit her,” Lauren explained in an Instagram comment. “The Linc and Jav decided on the spelling. Fam effort lol!”

“I’ve never seen the spelling before,” Lauren told another person in the post’s comment section. “The boys picked it, but I love it…”

Lauren confirmed that the other names they were considering were Nora and Remi.

“Maisey was just on my short list of names I love, I thought Maisey Marroquin was adorable. Joelle is what Eli called her before we even knew it was a girl so that’s where Sissy Jo came from & we wanted to keep that,” Lauren told another person.

Kail Lowry’s Son Isaac Posts Video Roasting Kail’s Past Red Carpet Looks 

After years of creating content and filming storylines based around her children–- including eldest son Isaac Rivera– Kail Lowry got a taste of her own medicine over the weekend when Isaac posted a video rating– and in some cases, hating– on some of Kail’s red carpet looks from over the years.

Isaac– whose dad is Jo Rivera– kicked off his video with an ensemble that Kail wore the MTV VMAs in 2016. Before going on to complete his description of his mom’s fit, Isaac paused to let everyone know his thoughts on her hot-roller hairdo.

“In my opinion, the hair was NOT eating,” he said. “It just doesn’t look good.”

Isaac then slammed his mother’s decision to wear a see-through red lace top…with nothing underneath.

“This is not cute to me and I hope she’s wearing a bra under this,” he added. “What is going on? Also, what is going on with her nails? It kind of looks crazy.”

Onto look No. 2— a black lace jumpsuit that Kail sported at the 2018 MTV VMAs— Isaac gave his stamp of approval on Kail’s makeup, emphasizing that “she looks so good.” As for Kail’s nails, however, once again, Isaac wasn’t a fan.

“Why are the nails green but she has a gold purse?” he asked. “The hair is eating. The makeup is eating. I don’t know what even to call this but it’s a black outfit. I don’t even know what to say.”

Isaac absolutely lets his mom have it as he moved on to look No. 3, which showed Kail wearing a long sleeve black dress at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. (Kail’s escort for this event was— randomly— Isaac’s dad, Jo.)

“What do you look so old in this picture?” he asked. “The hair? Getting there.”

For look No. 4, Isaac treated fans to a two-for-one critique as he shared a photo of Kail and her former ‘Teen Mom 2’ co-star Leah Messer at the 2019 MTV VMAs wearing semi-coordinating denim and bustiers/bra looks on the red carpet.

“Leah’s wearing a cute top, but she could’ve picked better pants for this,” he said. “Leah’s shoes, they look like elf shoes. What is mom wearing for her earrings? You look like you’re in a cult. The shoes, the makeup, it’s alright, I just think you can do better.”

As he wrapped up his video, Isaac declared look No. 2 as “the best overall,” though he declined naming a “worst overall” look.

‘Teen Mom’ fans seemed to enjoy watching Isaac playfully poke fun at his mom’s best and worst looks from over the years, and even after catching some strays herself in the post, Leah encouraged Isaac to keep the videos coming.

“Elf shoes 💀😭 This is great!!!” Leah commented on Isaac’s post. Keep them coming [Isaac.] [Ali & Aleeah] up next 🤣.

Kail also seemed to find humor in Isaac’s post after insinuating in the comment section that he posted the video without her knowledge.

about the setting!

grr rawr is an ocverse that takes place at elysian university, a fictional college located in rhode island. the plot centers around 22 students, all of whom are actually the reincarnations of the famous ancient greek heroes; except, they don’t know that. all they know is that they have been tasked with fighting monsters that have appeared with the powers that have been bestowed upon them. however, not all is as it seems as the gods always have their own agendas.

grr rawr has 22 reincarnated characters, in addition to several other characters called ‘echoes’. while reincarnations deal with strange feelings of deja-vu and eventually dreams of their past lives, echoes have no past life. their personalities, roles, and histories may simply seem to imitate several other greek myths, and they are meant to take on support roles for the actual reincarnations.

madelyn gamero is the reincarnation of medusa (who was just Screwed Over in this). she likes to wear bright colors and tries to keep an optimistic outlook on life. she has a pet garter snake named gordon and a tattoo on her arm.

pasquale fernandez is the reincarnation of perseus. he likes cats and wearing nice outfits. he has anxiety and overworks himself constantly. he has a tuxedo cat named toast.

maeve is an echo of medea. she has a short temper and doesn't open up easily. she practices witchcraft.

carlos - reincarnation of perdix. he’s isaac’s cousin and is 16, so he’s the baby of the group. he entered college early because he’s a little brainiac. he’s also pretty insecure feeling like he needs to be more mature and adult like than he is. he’ll swear a lot unless euria or cass in specific ask him to stop. they’ve taken mom roles to him and there is nothing he can do about it. he really like birds and enjoys feeding them, with one specific seeming to particularly like him a whole lot. carlos is currently working for an animation degree because that’s what he wants to do with his life.

zach demers! the Ultimate Dad Friend. a reincarnation of odysseus, he’s the oldest of the gang and is engaged to his fiance penelope. he just really likes fishing and sailing, but he’s always nervous to go out too far to sea.

hayden martins-torres! a reincarnation of hektor of troy. like him she is a mess, stuck in a bad situation for most of her childhood. she’s impulsive and strong-headed, willing to do whatever it takes to protect those she loves the most.

jason arkos! biggest band kid ever. the reincarnation of jason, he loves sailing and exploring. he suggested the idea of a band with him, oliver, alanta, and chad.

ty lozano-cardozo! a reincarnation of theseus, ty tends to struggle with others and often comes across as a jerk. still, their charm and skills tend to make them liked by most- but not all.

jo bayani! quiet + thoughtful but very nurturing towards everyone. an echo of machaon, they’re training to be a family and trauma nurse. while they seem quiet at first, get to know them and you’ll find they’re wildly passionate about several things.

phoebe baux! the ultimate sweetheart! an echo, imitating pandora. she’s super peppy and always tries her best to find the bright side of every situation, but she also has a wicked curious side to her. hyeon! a shy kid, he’s an echo of hippolytus. he’s selectively mute and a little afraid to speak his mind, but he loves any and all type of athleticism and likes competition. 

mel! the ultimate bro, they’re an echo of meleager. they’ve been friends with alanta for a long time, and kicking ass for even longer. they’re one of the only people who can handle alanta in a fight.

lukas d'antonio miguel is an echo imitating autolycus, famous thief. he is the definition of chaos. his texting is atrocious, and he is a massive prankster. a dramatic theater kid, he loves loud outfits and has his own unique brand of fashion.

elaina halliste is an echo imitating hippolyta, amazon warrior queen. she is a tall buff lady that can crush you with her thighs. she lifts weights and never misses leg day. despite her intimidating figure, she is a little awkward one-on-one and gets horribly flustered around cute girls.

angel flores-macías is an echo of tiresias, blind prophet of apollo. 

cyrus aakster is an echo of cycnus, bandit prince and son of ares. he is a rude little bastard who passes his time taunting others and getting into fights. he is only polite to mothers and is bullied by toddlers. would absolutely steal candy from a baby, and is in fact a kleptomaniac.
