Relationship Headcanons (HC) (I’m not finish and my dumbass posted it before I could so come back later.)

Oikawa

Okay, anyways

If you don’t believe aliens exist don’t even try to have a conversation with him

He to stay up all night and talk about conspiracy theories, so be prepared for him waking you at 3am to talk about how the CIA framed Lee Harvey Oswald for the Assassination of JFK.

He needs constant validation and reassurance

He’ll either do everything in his power to keep you or he’ll just let you go without giving it a second thought.

When he’s overworking himself be there for him, listen to him, and reassure him that he’s a good VB player

If he’s being TOO cocky don’t be afraid to say something

Be patient, he’s not always gonna have time for you, he is a volleyball player after all.

He can be really childish sometimes, so you’ll probably have to go all Iwa-Chan on him.

Laugh at his jokes

Be petty when a girl flirts with him. He likes that shit.

Randomly make a funny face at him in the hallway

He has a big ego, so if you ignore him when you first meet, he’ll either fall in love with you or ignore you back.

Like i said, he needs constant reassurance and for you to be patient with him. His ex left him because he was so indulged in volleyball. Oikawa is really insecure about his abilities as a setter, especially when he’s compared to Kageyama.

Kageyama is to Oikawa as Voldemort is to Hogwarts, just don’t say his name, avoid it at all costs.

He’d be someone difficult to be in a relationship with, so it’s best to start out as friends.

Movie dates for sure, y’all will definitely watch a lot of sci-fi movies

Tsukkishima

Get him dino plushies, he may not say it out loud but it’s basically canon that he like dinosaurs.

Museum dates? Yes please.

Literally does not care about looks. He is not superficial. He thinks looks are stupid and irrelevant when it comes to love.

Loves taking walks with you at night. Hand in hand, with you leaning in to him.

You have to have thick skin because sometimes he might criticize you without realizing it

i am very excited for refactoring!! i already love the characters. can you tell us more about the main cast? like personality and interests and stuff.

AW YES IM SO GLAD THAT YOURE EXCITED!! i got this ask this morning and it seriously made me want to stay home from school and just infodump. im putting this under a cut since it will probably get a bit long i just kind of wrote down some fun tidbits and etc

mavis

absolute jock-passing nerd. she dresses like she Does Sport even though she did like quiz bowl and whatnot instead.

shes quite chill and thoughtful (its the taurus rising) but gets easily bored and needs constantly new forms of stimulation to stay motivated. she loves a challenge and basically feeds off of that kind of stuff. this really only cancelled out when its something deeply stressful (like being teleported to an entirely new dimension and all that). she CAN settle down into one spot and feel comfortable with that so long as she isnt BORED because GOD FORBID SHES BORED.

mavis likes science but especially astronomy, and despite everything shes actually really into horror movies and the paranormal too. a definite Halloween Enthusiast and also listens to lemon demon dare i say.

whenever shes stressed or frustrated or anxious her knee jerk instinct is to try and joke about it and move on. she isnt really direct about how she feels and whatnot and when she IS its usually via punchline.

silas

silas is probably one of the easiest people to read in the cast. its basically impossible for him to lie or say that hes doing well if he isnt. hes a very honest person and expects that kind of honesty from others also, and it becomes really frustrating for him when people arent direct about how they feel

BECAUUUUSEEEE hes also very empathetic. both of the hao siblings are but he goes about it in a very different way than catriona. hes much more like “I have to know everything about why you are upset or else ill die” because if he sees someone sad and doesnt know why it basically eats him up inside until he knows.

hes also a bit of a jokester not about his feelings or anything but just in general! rather than using it as a defense he just really enjoys making people laugh. silas is very sociable.

sometimes he can be a bit of a try hard.... he is really doing his best and i love him. him and lea and mavis all share a need to establish themselves as something greater than they are and his mainly stems from Youngest Sibling Syndrome with a side of boredom with his own life too. mavis and silas really bond over that but silas didnt really take on any escapist tendencies like mavis did. he pushes himself to take action and try many things and considers many paths.

catriona

she has a teddy bear in her room that she hides in a reading cubby because its still important but she feels that her image as Mature and Put Together matters too much to really share that soft side with others. and i think that basically sums her up as a character.

really just needs some fuckin sleep. she is fueled by various caffeinated beverages (her favorites being an overly elaborate coffee order and arizona green tea). shes articulate, but because shes usually running on 4 or 5 hours of sleep she can sometimes miss small details or starts talking faster than her own thoughts+stumbling over her own words.

shes a bit suspicious of other people because shes had her trust tested a lot. catriona is very like kind and warm still though its just that like... you know. if you wrong her its very hard to win her back and she likely wont trust you with anything again.

shes also much more of a “fix it” kind of person when it comes to problems. she will absolutely provide a shoulder to cry on when you need it but at the end of the day she provides very practical support by trying to provide options. she takes the same approach with her own feelings too.

kirabo

basically like “*softly* dont”. they are very cautious and dont take a lot of risks unless theyre absolutely sure that it will work out and there will be a benefit. however, theyre still optimistic and theyre always able to see the best in other people and in any situation. not really in that toxic kind of positivity way... but as in like they are able to appreciate the small things and whatnot

^ that world view is basically why they are so into botany. its very precise but its something small that you can really appreciate and see your own success in little by little. they also like arts and crafts.

they are incredibly diplomatic despite their initial virgo stubbornness. theyre really open to other perspectives and theyre very patient/understanding. kirabo and catriona are basically opposites in this respect and so they balance eachother out a lot here.... they are like bestest buds.

they are very big on like Emotionally Productive Self Care. kirabo WILL put on a face mask and will be like “dont @ me i am chillin”. and they will be like “enough is enough i am going to knit a fucking scarf a second”. they just have a lot of little hobbies to keep them busy like that because they are super fidgety. anxious energy... the mercury-ism

minka

absolutely hates being underestimated in any capacity. minka is fully aware of her intelligence and capabilities and expresses no qualms with it whatsoever. alot of her insecurity ends up lying in her social life and etc. shes just been through a lot and really just wants to share her passions with other people.

really likes to decorate and APPEARS messy but is super organized. she has that sort of “chaotic order” thing going on where she can locate something even if its under a huge pile of random stuff. she has lots of stickers and lots of color-coding methods too.

will do the “are we there yet” thing and the “why? why? why?” thing. mostly out of curiosity to see how far she can go. she is always so curious about how far she can go with everything. so once she finds company she basically never wants to be alone. shes very talkative and inquisitive.

a baby bi.... she is still figuring it out a little though

lea

a little >:3c and i like love that for her. she has a lot of charisma and energy and those are things that she really NEEDS TO HAVE with being a video game streamer and all but deep down shes just really mischievous and playful too.

i consider her a vriska by technicality. she has a lot of issues revolving around her identity and how people perceive her because so much of the time she deals with people projecting an idea of what shes like onto her. so alot of her thing is allowing herself to just be rather than feeling like she needs to put on a show.

^ shes actually probably one of the hardest people to read in the cast because of that. its not that shes not being herself... its just that she feels like she needs to be a pretty altered version of herself. the neptune in 1st struggle. she also kind of tends to have one foot out the door on everything but it makes her very adaptable. pretty much opposite to mavis in that its hard for her to settle down in any sense.

has a scorpio mercury but a libra venus so basically like “good luck my deep lovecore affections for you will be hidden behind several proxies”. also it just makes it to where she comes off very Intense at first as is the scorpio placement way. but really its fucking great and i love her.

trinity

well theyre a scorpio sun AND a scorpio moon aka theyre like “i will know everything about you but you will never know anything about me ever” and also theyre like *rebirth* *rebirth* *rebirth*

despite what the emotional constipation and capricorn rising may tell you they are seriously A Lot. they make very quick decisions based on any instantaneous assumptions that they have so deep down theyre just very emotional and impulsive. AND intuitive which is partially because they are analytical of others but all around theyre mostly guided by like Vibez.

their precognition is kind of like if you randomly started having dreams during the day and only saw them through your left eye. so more than anything they get kind of like... weird deja vu when they talk to people or go to places that theyve seen in their visions.

really they are just like. okay in theory by first impression they would be a vriska but in actuality they are a rose lalonde because like. come on. theres a certain self-aware yet chaotic and dramatic and repressed je ne sais quoi here

eggshell - how do you show each other that you trust one another?

Ace as we know prefers to be within 4 feet of me 100% of the time, he's always hugging pecking squeezing nuggie-ing etc whatever you have it & saying sweet shit that u wouldn't expect would come out of his mouth if u didn't know him <3 lovely guy finally breaking free of that toxic front he put on himself forever ago

He also lets me borrow his stuff! Loves when I borrow it actually. He's not "messy" per se but a lot of the time his stuff will be left mixed in with mine (such as his Iconic Sunglasses). Growing up ostracized in a makeshift home with 4 siblings as rowdy as him made him keep his important stuff close to him. But he's not worried about me stealing it or breaking it :> .. however he himself stole others' personal items ie 2d's toaster so I can't really explain him well 🤔😂

As for me, I let my guard down around him. I can draw around him, I can listen to music around him, I can just Be & focus totally on what I'm doing without being self-conscious.

I let him hug me whenever he wants, I'm totally fine with him just resting his arm around me or random kisses. Love that shit actually he's the first person I've Ever allowed & actually wanted that from it's more vital to me than air or water 😤 However I'm too shy to instigate the same way but I Will give gentle bashful headbutts as my way of saying "pls give me affection I'm too wimpass to ask" hdsdj

This p much applies to both of us but we're comfortable telling each other everything, everything that's worrying us or things that have haunted each of us for years. Sometimes we talk with each other, sometimes one of us listens & hugs silently while the other unloads.

On the lighter end, we also tell each other just.. Whatever we love & enjoy about each other, the day, etc. Reflecting on our relationship + friendship, it's really nice. It's also really good since both of us grew up emotionally constipated for years LMAOO

beau blue - what would the both of you do together on a lazy summer afternoon?

It gets hot as fuck out here so we play video games, cuddle & eat snacks! When it's later in the day & not as hot out we go around town, just going to wherever interests us, like an arcade he likes or a park, then just driving aimlessly on the outskirts of town as the sun sets. no plans just chilling & enjoying each other's company. he's a free spirit & it's very new & freeing for me to finally be able to be like that :)

What defines masculinity to Salvatore? Being able to protect and defend those you love. Being a leader. And being strong, both in a physical and mental sense. This strength overlaps into his ideologies about being able to protect those close to you, and that those close to you do not need to see you being emotionally weak.

As an old man, he continues to have these beliefs. But, these ideas are watered down, not extreme as some would execute them. However, traits explicitly stemming from toxic masculinity have resurfaced at multiple points in his life.

During his childhood, Salvatore failed to comprehend social constructs. For example, he had the privilege of babysitting some children in his area until he reached a certain age and (female) parents did not want him to be in a role that was allegedly better fit for girls. He also didn’t understand when racial bias was being implicated, with situations occurring such as having a non-white friend only to hear people in his neighborhood go, ‘we’re closing early today,’ ‘we don’t have what you’re looking for.’ For so long, Salvatore just thought he and his friend would come by on bad days. Now ironically, Sal had a knowledge of the implications that came with being a boy. You had to be strong. Right off bat. No questions asked. Then, as a teenager (12-16 particularly) is when more traits resurfaced. He was emotionally constipated during these ages, which would surprise a lot of people who know how he is now. Show less emotions, don’t wear your heart on your sleeve, those you think are your friends will exploit your weaknesses. And Sal, wanting to be a leader, cannot seem like he can budge from his standing. He also was not friends with girls at this age simply because he felt uncomfortable around them, but one has to wonder - are the bonds he made with other boys really authentic? Then, his mother is murdered. And Sal is depressed in a way words cannot begin to describe. He says he’s fine! He genuinely believes that he is fine both because he and his mother did not have the best relationship and beyond that, his ‘great’ way of handling her passing becomes a mask he has to wear day after day. But he’s sad. He’s angry. He wants to avenge her although that man had been escorted to prison. Also, he’s thrust into a new life. His aunt seems apathetic to his needs. And beyond that, Sal genuinely feels alone because men do not talk about their problems. Although he spends the night with a lot of neighborhood boys, he can frame it as because his aunt’s a bitch. His aunt is the comedic punching bag that can keep him from exposing the true extent of his woe. So of course, Sal’s depression further grows. And that depression is not being sullen, withdrawn, and quiet: he’s on the go, he’s getting into things he has no business in, he’s ‘play’ fighting which eventually transitions into boxing. So here is another masculine ideal: sports are good. Sports are an outlet for anger. Over time, Sal has seen women as people capable of being intimate and vulnerable with. His first crush (a girl with a name he cannot remember in the present, it’s been too long.) was someone he felt connected to. She was abused with bruises to prove it. He had the same marks on him. They behaved very similarly although, she was much more open and physically affectionate - like, literally throwing her arms around him in greeting, giving him a slobber infused kiss - because girls do not live up to the standards of masculinity, Sal subconsciously felt more secure spending all his time around her. For them to be different sexes did not play a role as to why he was so taken with her, either. They just genuinely mashed well and he was sad when she exited his life. However, her entire presence caused Sal to be more loose, and continue to be little non-traditional in his mindset. Just enough to not internalize any homophobia. Next comes Delores when he’s an adult, who he gradually became open with due to his overwhelming, constantly growing affection. Similar to his childhood crush, she felt safe to confide in. Looking at her past the sexual standpoint, he wanted to spend all his time with her. He wanted to protect her. However, it wasn’t until much later until he felt she was safe enough to cry in front of. Because, y’know, Belle died. And prior to this, Salvatore had been trying to cope through violence and self-medication outside their home. He managed to heal beyond this though. But not fully. Toxic masculinity can cause feelings of emptiness in the sense one must eventually wonder, ‘who am I?’ beyond being the tough guy, the winner, etc. Sal, having pursued respect via leadership, material, and death does indeed feel empty. Had he not focused so hard on those particular things, he feels he would have gained a more fulfilling life with his loved ones. Now, to be a Don requires him to maintain the image of an old Italian man that does not take shit. And he can bare his teeth, he can be threatening. He can still wear a mask. But being sixty-five years old, Sal can chill more in the presence of civilians and close family. Rather than saying fuck the mask, he excuses this behavior through his favorite quote,

“If people did not sometimes do silly things, nothing intelligent would ever get done.”

Prompt #10: Coward

Bluebird muttered under her breath as she carefully trudged her way through the ankle deep snow, the soles of her boots catching on a frozen rock here and there hidden underneath. It was a cold night, the air frosty enough that it needled its sharp way into her lungs, and she’d much rather be spending it within the warmth of their family’s yurt, rather than stomping about in the dark, freezing her tail off, because Aza was a ridiculous crybaby.

Thankfully his hiding spots hadn’t changed since they were children, so she didn’t have to go far. With the yurts of the Iriq at her back, she stepped over the threshold of the camp’s outskirts and right into a dense flock of sheep. It was like a sea of fluffy wool, up to her waist and bleating curiously at her as she waded in, gently nudging aside a stubborn ewe here and there.

“C’mon, move it, ya dumb sheep,” she grumbled, making sure not to accidentally kick any. The shepherds would tan her hide and turn her into a new pair of boots if they caught her hurting a single woolly hair on their dumb heads, “Outta my way, c’mon…”

It took a good minute of sheep-wading, but eventually she found her quarry. Aza was sitting on a lone patch of bare, scraggly grass, staring at his boots as the sheep milled around him. He was in his hunting gear from that morning, so at least she didn’t have to smack him upside the head for exposing himself to the elements like last time, but she was still displeased to see him sitting on the frozen ground like a dumbass.

“Aza,” she greeted as she stood right in front of him, thrusting the oil lantern above them so it cast their tiny little clearing, flanked by sheep, in an off-yellow light, “You done communing with the sheep or what?”

Aza looked up at her with a small frown. Age had not hardened him like it did to Xaela men. Bluebird didn’t know if it was a Miqo’te thing or not, but Aza always looked so small, so tiny and delicate compared to the men she had met in the Steppes and around the Ruby Sea. It made it hard for her to think of him as an adult at times.

“I just needed a quiet place to think,” he huffed, then, “What’re you doing here?”

“Looking out for you, as usual,” Bluebird said flatly, “It’s freezing outside. Can’t you brood back in the yurt or something?”

“No,” Aza’s expression was closed off and blank, made almost cold by the stark shadows the oil lantern cast across it, “You and Mom’ll just pester me.”

“I’m pestering you now,” Bluebird pointed out dryly, but she squatted down and set the lantern down, resigning herself to chilling out with her brother and the sheep for a good while, pun intended, “What about Dad? You can help him with his crafting stuff.”

Aza looked away and started ripping up clumps of grass, “I don’t want to bother him.”

Bluebird eyed him contemplatively, “You never bother him.”

Aza just gave a one-shouldered shrug, still avoiding her gaze. It was difficult to think him as nineteen when he was like this. Whenever he was upset, he tended to shrink, to hunch his shoulders and bow his head, to avoid eye contact and try to melt into the background, to try and disappear. She knew why. A habit beaten into him from- well, before. He tended to relapse into old, toxic habits whenever he got into these odd moods, but there was always a catalyst as to why.

“I heard,” Bluebird began carefully, “that you had a fight with Buyant this morning.”

“It wasn’t a fight,” Aza said very quietly.

“Oh yeah? Well, the black eye he’s sporting says otherwise.”

Aza looked miserable.

“Khudus said that he riled you up something fierce,” Bluebird probed, “You know, tribe members fight all the time. I mean, me and Khudus can’t go ten minutes without headbutting each other, so you haven’t done anything wrong.”

“I know that,” Aza rubbed his palms over his thighs, his gaze skittering around them and catching the glow of the oil lantern, “But…”

Bluebird wasn’t a very patient person; it was a point of frustration with Khudus, who tended to partner up with her for hunts despite knowing she tended to sabotage herself by getting impatient and ruining her own ambush by charging out too early. With Aza, however, she always managed to find some scrap of patience, enough to sit there to wait him out as he dithered over the right words to say.

So, she waited, with nothing but the noise of sheep bleating and rustling filling the silence.

“I’m not a Xaela,” Aza finally finished, “And… I’m not a kid anymore either. I’m an adult.”

“…yeah?” Bluebird said slowly, not getting it, “What, is it a shock to you?”

Aza finally looked at her, even if it was to give her his usual ‘fucking-hell-you’re-such-an-empty-headed-dzo’ expression, “No. It’s not. I mean… I was only really taken in out of pity, wasn’t I?”

Abruptly, Bluebird felt ill-equipped, emotionally, to navigate this conversation. This was always something Dad or Mom tended to handle, because she only ever stuck her foot into it. But, she was perceptive enough to know that quickly changing the subject or avoiding to answer would just confirm whatever fucked up, stupid conclusion Aza already came to, so she sucked in a breath and went for it.

“Well, kind of, yeah,” Bluebird said carefully, “But I mean, we didn’t keep you out of pity. I think. Well, mostly. Just know that I like you, and overall there’s maybe about ten percent worth of pity in there. The other ninety percent is genuine affection.”

“Oh,” Aza said, like this was a surprising fact to him.

“Did Buyant say otherwise?” Bluebird asked mildly, already making plans to corner the asshole and pluck his scales out one by one. That lanky half-Oronir was always salty that Aza was the better hunter, but he never dared to be too overt in his bullying when Bluebird was around. Maybe she should remind him who the real boss was around here, if he was daring to be bold…

Aza said nothing for a moment, then, “He was asking when… when I was going to leave. He said I was just… that I was only here, ‘cuz you lot pitied me, and that I wasn’t a real-”

“Fuck him,” Bluebird said immediately, not wanting to hear the rest. She got the gist, “You can stay until you’re as old and crotchety as Chuluun. In fact, I bet Mom’ll want you to stay, ‘cuz she never gets tired of fussing over you like the giant crybaby that you are.”

“I’m not a crybaby,” Aza scowled, his ears tilting back a fraction, “I haven’t cried in years!”

“Liar,” Bluebird jeered, her mouth curving into a wicked smirk, “You cried two days ago when you saw that fox eat a baby bird.”

“It was so tiny though…” Aza mumbled, his face turning a little pink, “And I sniffled.”

“You cried. Big fat tears and everything.”

“Mom says crying’s fine.”

“Yeah, if you’re a baby,” Bluebird chortled, and yelped when Aza flung a handful of dirty snow at her, “Oi, hey!”

“I’m not a crybaby,” Aza grumped, crossing his arms in a full-blown sulk, “I’m just free with my emotions.”

Bluebird almost choked, because that was the worst lie she had ever heard in her life, “You are the most emotionally constipated person I’ve ever met,” she said, “You’re a disaster waiting to happen.”

Aza frowned at the grass at that, “I try though.”

“Yeah, but you’re too much of a coward to follow through most of the time,” Bluebird said, “You always worry about stupid shit. You worry you’re a burden, you worry we look after you out of pity, you worry about the stupid shit Buyant says, apparently. You worry, worry, worry.”

Aza chewed on his bottom lip, his face creasing into an expression of, yup, worrying.

So, she smacked him upside the head.

“Ow!” he reeled back, rubbing his ear with a betrayed expression, “What was that for?!”

“You’re worrying,” she said flatly, “Stop it. Look. Forget what Buyant said. He’s an asshole and a loser, who gives a shit about him? Besides,” she jutted her chin out, looking at her brother down the length of her nose, “Are you gonna believe him over me when I say we want you here?”

“No,” Aza mumbled, but he was smiling, a small, shy little gesture which was made her feel weirdly embarrassed. Her brother was so high maintenance sometimes, honestly, but… well, she was used to it. It was fine.

“Exactly. Now, c’mon,” she said, picking up the oil lantern and getting to her feet, “Stop hiding with the sheep and come back home. We can plan out revenge on Buyant together.”

“Revenge?” Aza hesitated, but he stood up too, brushing the snow and dirt off his breeches. Bluebird tutted and reached out, grabbing one of his hands and tugging him onwards as she waded back into the sheep flock.

“Revenge,” she confirmed, “Buyant’s been getting too big for his boots, it seems. So, we’re gonna teach him who’s boss. You and me.”

Aza looked unsure, but she knew it would take little convincing for him to tap into that vicious streak he kept hidden beneath that quiet demeanour. Aza could be scary when he was riled enough, something Buyant should be taught sooner rather than later. He was prodding a sleeping tiger when it came to bullying Aza, and Bluebird would rather have some control over the inevitable explosion, than learning on the grapevine that Aza lost his temper and murdered him with his bare hands when it got too much.

“It’ll be fun,” Bluebird said, “You’ll see.”

“Well,” Aza hesitated – then smiled, a wicked little curve to his mouth that promised Buyant was going to have a very unpleasant, immediate future, “Only if we don’t get caught. You know what happened last time we were teaching someone a lesson.”

“That was probably because we broke bones last time…” Bluebird mumbled, remembering how that got out of hand. Her and Aza had been lectured by the khatun until their legs numbed under them and their heads rang from all the yelling. Not an experience she wanted to repeat as an adult. That’d just be humiliating.

“And left a trail of evidence a malm wide,” Aza snorted.

“Hey, I wasn’t the one that instantly confessed! Mom didn’t even finish asking if we did it and you broke down bawling and begging for forgiveness!”

“I did not! You’re the one who tripped over herself trying to pin all the blame on me!”

“Well, it technically was all your fault. It was your idea to stage the dzo stampede, after all.”

“Oh, shut up.”

Bluebird barked a laugh at Aza’s sulky retort, something contented and warm settling in her. Yeah, her crybaby brother was so high maintenance, but it was fine. She loved him all the same – even if the idiot had to reminded constantly of that fact. But that was fine too, she understood. He was a coward, but it was how he survived before.

He just needed to have his immediate instinct to hide to be replaced with confrontation. He needed to be bolder, to know that he could square up against something that hurt and upset him, because he’d have her at his back.

And, c’mon, who can be scared with her at their side? She was amazing, incredible and brave enough for the both of them!

Poor Buyant wouldn’t know what hit him.

Whats your opinon of kiri//baku and todo//deku?

!!!!! 👀 Oooh, *takes deep breath* so I’ve finally been askedthe big question. (Thank you for courteously using the /s to block the ship names out of the tags) Because I DO have opinionsabout them. I’ve mostly kept them to myself, but since I’ve been prompted, Iwill try to be as honest and thorough as I can. :’)

Disclaimer: If you high-key shipeither of the two, please proceed with caution!

To preface:

If it wasn’t already obvious from the content I reblog (and rave about in thetags), my decisive fav character of the series is Kacchan, and similarly, my otp of the series is with him and Deku(as bakudeku, aka bkdk for short – which is how it’scommonly called on twitter). So going in, that’s my given stance already.

But it wasn’t always this way! :O When I first started theseries I went in pretty cautious, wary, and undecided; I actually never plannedto fall so hard for either the character or the ship (and I rarely ship things tobegin with). That is, until Hori repeatedly bludgeoned me in the face and heartwith all the reoccurring and carefully consistent character development, to thepoint ch120 became the final, decisive nail in the coffin - the point of noreturn for me. :’3 So now, I’m fully invested in seeing how their story pulls through to the end, nomatter what it might become (it doesn’t even need to be shippy). With them thematically established as two sidesof the same coin – on opposite ends of the same spectrum of heroism – the twohalves of All Might who both win and rescue:I want to see how they push each other towards greatness and mature into a pairof the best heroes. It’s a long-term investment of hope and a case of slowburn positive development, in direct (and on purpose!) contrast to its rockyand strained foundations (they ARE immature and emotionally constipated teensafter all), but it’s all been carefully laid out through a steady path ofnarrative foreshadowing. Where the prospects at the end of that path – of mutualsupport, understanding, reconciliation, cooperation, teamwork, trust – arebeautiful and rewarding things that make their ongoing journey of growth worthit. So…for Hori to smash any original expectations I might have had, and makeme fall hard for something I never intended to happen, are examples of whatI consider GOOD writing.

After I realized this, I went and did my research. Which inmy case, is reading up on countless character/relationship meta and fanfics togauge how the fandom sees their potential too. So I am very aware of the multiple sides of existing arguments and the dramathat’s already happened in the fandom (from across both tumblr and twitter). Iknow the western fandom considerably favors kr/bk and td/dk (at least for now), BUT in the eastern fandom,it’s actually bkdk that’s more popular. Hmm, curious why that is?

One of the reasons is partly thanks to the widespread availabilityof fan mistranslations (FA group) that have greatly exaggerated certain characterizations(ie Kacchan), leading to fandom fearmongering and the perpetuation of stigmasagainst the canon development of certain relationships (ie bkdk), which in theoriginal text, were never nearly thatflanderized or as offensive in context to begin with. Include also, adifference in cultural expectations/values, and we get a prickly concoction ofmisunderstandings ready to brew. It’s a poor and unfortunate case of important subtleties/complexitiesgetting lost in translation, while the bad things are blown way out ofproportion, to the point the story’s original intent is sidelined, or worse, canonis deliberately obstructed by translators who already dislike seeing suchcontent (because it’s ‘not their ship’) – so they prevent and hurt othersfrom fully enjoying the progression of the series as the author intended. Peoplecan like what they like (that’s perfectly fine), but in all of my lurking, Ihave SEEN examples of these things (andworse) actively happen, and quite frankly, the spread of this blatant toxicityand compulsive collective ignorance sickens me. So, I choose not to getinvolved with it, and instead focus on the positive.

Because of my preference for meta and faithfulinterpretations of the text (making sure available translations are reliablefor analyzing, for instance), I’ve gathered enough information (andacknowledged enough counterarguments) to make an educated decision for myself onwhat I value most and want to see from the series. Unless Hori veers offotherwise, I’ll stick by that conclusion and enjoy following the series throughto fruition (regardless of what the rest of the opposing fandom might say).

For example, one of the first dedicated and respectful metawriters – back when only the FA scans were available, but who ALSO providedcorrections from the Japanese text where necessary, came to this conclusionabout Deku and Kacchan’s characterizations:

“Deku is such a super special case that if a fanfichas him and Kacchan in it - no matter the parings - and they don’t have somecase of mutual obsession, I actually consider that OOC.”

Which, after everything I’ve seen of the characters, I can fully concur withthat statement.

MEANING, if the fandom portrays them off alone, together, or involvedin relationships with other characters and they lack this intrinsic magnetism that binds them together (for betteror worse) – if they can somehowfunction completely normal without being influenced by the presence of anotherand magically not even care about each other anymore, then my suspension of disbeliefbreaks. They’re too OOC. (Unless it’s a fic au where they never met or grew uptogether.) These two are TOO canonically wrapped up in their mutual complexesto simply cut ties, wrap up all their unresolved issues with a band-aid,and essentially ignore a core issue of the series for the sake of ‘shipconvenience’ with others. Their canon relationship is too complex to make such simplifiedportrayals of them believable, or even such flimsy ‘solutions’ for their issuesfeasible. Thankfully, we have Hori actively doing all the hard work for us sowe don’t have to worry about such transgressions like that happening in canon. (InHori’s consistent characterizations we trust!)

Now then, with all of THISestablished, I can finally answer your main question: my opinion on kiri/bakuand todo/deku.

Let’s start with todo/deku:

Because believe it or not, when I was still new to the fandom and in my earlyresearch stages, I actually lowkey shipped them and read plenty of fics aboutthem too! I was open to them as a pair, but still undecided and wary because I didn’t know who to ship withDeku: either Todoroki or Bakugou. I saw all the widespread (western) fandomcontent for td/dk, with the apparent foundations for the ship based on eventsfrom the Sports Festival, where Deku ‘saves’ Todoroki and acts as the catalystto allow him to defrost his issues with his father and realize his true power.I thought, ‘ooh there’s something interesting in there worth looking forwardto; I’ll keep an eye on how canon develops their relationship from here.’

Unfortunately…canon didn’t give me anything else substantial to build on. Andin my case, those are foundations I NEED to be fully on board and convinced fora ship. It was the equivalent of fandom hyping me up for something to lookforward to, with me sitting there with a huge smile and my arms raised inanticipation…only for the rest of the manga to leave me dry. It was a hugedisappointment. Because except for a few scattered incidents, like from theStain arc and maybe the recent ‘it’s ok for heroes to cry sometimes too’moment, canon progress for their relationship has been severely underwhelmingand virtually nonexistent. Todoroki has chilled into becoming a supportive (yetstill socially awkward) friend for Deku yes, but even Iida has had more canon incidents of concern for Deku’s wellbeing,and challenges Deku into becoming a better person/hero with their interactions.(And yet, fandom support for Deku and Iida is virtually nonexistent incomparison, because their friendship resembles the camaraderie between bros, Iguess??)

So then I was like, ‘wait, am I missing something here? WHY does the fandomlove td/dk so much, when their canon interactions are so limited, and the onlybig thing that’s happened between them was all the way back in the SportsFestival??’ So, I went and investigated the potential of their relationshipfurther in fanfics (which are quite numerous and popular on a03 I might add).

After taking a look, I began to see trends. Most td/dk fics are heavily skewed in Todoroki’s favor, tothe point of being practically one-sided in character development. The mainconflict in almost all their ficnarratives revolves around solving Todoroki’s issues with his father and comingto terms with HIS powers, leaving Deku as a passive, supporting participant inhelping Todoroki out with his problems. Which, while the two of them could bondtogether over their missing/difficult father issues, after a while this same familyconflict gets old and stale. What else is there? What about Deku’s problems for equality’s sake?He’s the main protagonist! How abouthis difficulties in learning how to make One for All his own too? Ah nope, hecan’t canonically confide in Todorokiabout the secrets of his quirk, now can he. ;) Oh wait. What about his problems with Bakugou? Is the biggest elephant in the room going to be ignored for the sakeof typical couple melodrama, or is my fav character going to be demonized so that Todoroki, the ‘prince’on a white horse, can ‘save’ Deku, the ‘damsel’ in distress, from him?! No way. And THAT is another hugeproblem I have with the ship.

Because in all the fics I’ve read of them, I never once was convinced ofDeku’s feelings for Todoroki. I can understand Todoroki gaining a passing crushon Deku thanks to their fight in the Sports Festival. But Deku? How does heeven fall for him? Just becauseTodoroki is nice and considerate and listens to him? Like a friend? (Deku has Uraraka and Iida forthat too, what makes Todoroki any more special than them in Deku’s life?) Thisties in to my previously mentioned suspension of disbelief and ooc territorynow. Because Deku is not some haplessdamsel in distress ready to be swept off his feet and easily charmed by somepotential suitor; he’s a BAMF with a heroic spirt that’s even feared byBakugou. And these traits are so rarely utilized to their full potential intd/dk fics - Todoroki’s influence rarely even challenges or inspires Deku toBECOME the best he can be to draw out his latent potential. (Iida’s canonicallydone more in that regard thanTodoroki’s ever done.) Again, it feels too one-sided in Todoroki’s favor toimprove as a better person/hero.

Oh yeah, and since Deku became one of Todoroki’s first ‘true friends,’ forTodoroki to fall for him feels like putting too many eggs in one basket,without giving Todoroki the chance tobranch out and make normal/healthy relationships with OTHERS first beforesettling down. He’s a socially awkward kid emotionally repressed by domesticabuse; for him to latch onto Deku, the ‘first’ person he’s finally (andliterally) warmed up to, feels like the budding symptoms of unhealthy copingmechanisms and compensating for Todoroki’s deeper emotional issues. Where it thenbecomes Deku’s ‘responsibility’ to care for the turnout of his wellbeing, whenNO - Deku’s got plenty of his OWN issues to become burdened with someone else’s on top of those. Plus in canon,Todoroki’s doing just fine and is perfectly capable of handling his personal problems onhis own without having to depend on Deku.

Again, it’s all touchy territory that feels like it sidelines the mainintent of the series itself – by branching off into the deep end of Todoroki’sangst at the expense of Deku’s, or worse: simply wrapping everything up with afluffy bow called ‘the power of love.’ Nuh-uh, not only is that immenselyidealistic and unrealistic, but it’s totally not the kind of content I signedup for when I started the series. I’m frankly not interested in delving into thoseoff-tangent topics in opposition to canon, where Deku’s problems are oftensidelined, his characterization compromised, and my fav character (Kacchan) eitherbecomes an exaggerated, antagonizing impediment to their ship or is simplytreated like he doesn’t even exist. (My patience and willing suspension of disbeliefonly go so far.)

In the end, Todoroki’s a supportingcharacter. In a tertiary tier after the protagonist (Deku) and the deuteragonist(Bakugou). Yet in td/dk fics he’s almost always turned into a main protagonistsomehow. I can understand his appeal and why he’s so popular in the fandom, yes(and I like him too!), but there’s a point where this exposure becomes TOO much,the limit to his available canon issues becomes saturated and repetitive, and itultimately becomes so tiring to keepcoming back and addressing the same topics in fanon when canon has alreadymarched on to focus on more pressing issues. I’m more interested in exploring those other things.

So nowadays, whenever I see td/dk content, I go ‘ayy that’s nice (or cute),’and keep on scrolling. It doesn’t bother me, but it doesn’t interest meanymore either. I probably won’t touch anymore fics of them together either;I’ve seen and had enough. I’m actually more receptive to seeing Todorokiinteract and develop friendships with other characters, like Inasa (the wind guy from the rival school)or even Momo for instance. Either of those ships I see around, I’m cool withtoo.

The final line: I don’t ship them (anymore), because canon swayed me over with the more pressing and compelling developments of bkdk.

NOW, it’s time to talk about kiri/baku:

To start, I actually LOVE Kirishima as a character. And I’ve alreadyestablished upfront that my fav character in the series is Kacchan. So whatgives? It turns out their ship has neverbeen on my radar.

Kirishima is a great character, but I’ve only ever seen him as a supportive bro. To EVERYONE in their class. Whichis precisely how Hori designed him: to be a compassionate/empathetic nice guywho bridges the gaps between the class with his vigorous enthusiasm and support(same role that Denki shares, by the way). And he fulfils this role splendidly.But he ALSO has his own insecurities and developing friendships with manyothers in the class – Denki, Mina, and Deku included. All of those people areimportant to him (and I’m cool with all their ships with him too). Kirishimadoes not solely revolve aroundBakugou.

It’s true that near the beginning of the series, Bakugou was an angry loner,Kirishima trailed after him on his own accord, and after seeing his version of‘manliness’, decided to stick by him and support him, because Kiri saw thepositives of his character that ‘no one’ else bothered to see. (NOT true; Dekuhas always seen and admired Kacchan’spositive traits since they were children.)And so what’s canonically established is a budding friendship where Kirishimafulfils his given role to bridge gaps (whenever Bakugou strays away from theclass), essentially working as a rubber band plot device, and as a secondperspective – aka a fresh lens, for the audience to view Bakugou’s positivequalities.

All of this I’m cool with. I actually enjoyseeing their canon interactions and the kind of fun, slapstick way they bounceoff each other. (I even like the concept of Dragon!Kiri too!) BUT, it’s whenfanon starts twisting their canon relationship into shippy territory, that’swhere things start getting…ugly, at least for me.

Remember, I’ve always only seen Kirishima as a supportive bro, and I MEAN that. They have the samered eyes. The same style of spikey hair. The same pumped up mannerisms whenthey get going. Too many similarities that rub me the wrong way when put in aromantic context. (The only difference is that one of them is the soft-hearted ‘niceguy,’ and the other is the outwardly prickly ‘asshole.’) To me, to ship them feels like the equivalentof taking the parallel ends of two polarized magnets: you can manually forcethem close together, but in the end, they cannot touch because the same ends ofmagnets naturally repel. Now, flip one of those magnets around (aka turn it intoDeku), and boom, the opposite ends attract with explosive force. And THAT ishow bkdk feels to me in comparison.

However, the kr/bk fandom doesn’t stop there. I know there exists plenty of fics about them, but I’ve never read any, and frankly, I never will, not even for curiosity’ssake. Because from the overabundance of otherfandom content, I already know what their ship dynamic is about. And it doesnot appeal to me at all.

Remember how I said Kacchan is my favorite. I do not appreciate when thefandom warps him into either a demonized or castrated caricature of himself –aka when they turn him into someone he most definitely is NOT, all for the sakeof a ship. Or worse: when they use Kiri’s relationship as a means of changingBakugou into a character they findmore appealing. NO. Even more worse: when they treat Kiri’s whole character as awalking plot device for ALL of Bakugou’s positive character development. Fuckno! Kirishima doesn’t deserve this dehumanizing treatment by the fans, andneither does my fav, getting subjected to this…betrayal to his whole character.

What am I talking about? When fans insist that Kiri is the ONLY personBakugou can be ‘nice’ to, outright forsaking or ignoring the canon developmentseither of them have with other characters – what about Denki, the rest of the‘Bakusquad’? Or Deku? Remember my dislike for ignoring the elephant in the room back in my spiel about td/dk?Well here, it’s infinitely times worse.

Because Kiri does not become aconvenient narrative replacement to ‘solve’ all of Bakugou’s problems or themeans to correct his bad behavior. It’s not even Kiri’s business orresponsibility to do so! (Same deal if Uraraka is shipped in Kiri’s place.) Hispresence doesn’t challenge Bakugou’s current conduct or world views to improvehimself as a better person, OR actively affect his drive to become the best hero.At most, Kiri endures the brunt of Bakugou’s outbursts when they happen(because he can harden with his quirk, he can ‘take’ it, and their banterbecomes ‘humorous’ and ‘harmless’…no, it absolutely does not) and amicably slides off any further implications with a ‘heyman, that’s not cool’, or excuses/accepts it with a ‘it’s fine because he’s justbeing himself.’ Now we have a situation where Kiri becomes a passive ‘butt-monkey’to Bakugou’s whims and actually enableshis unacceptable behavior to persist. And Bakugou somehow becomes fully invested in a single confidant who babies andpicks up after him (how the heck? no way would he allow himself to get ropedinto a relationship like that, if any at all. He’s strong and independent enoughto handle himself fine.). Even when it’s portrayed where Kiri is the ‘only’ oneBakugou’s nice to, they’d exist in a vacuum tunnel, sealed off from the influenceof others, and become a spiraling fester-hole of static development. None ofthese prospects are the ‘healthy’ long-term results that fandom seems to claimthey are. Tell me, if Bakugou was reallyan abusive character, would his behavior magically ‘fix’ itself simply thanksto Kiri’s passive influence or ‘the power of his understanding kindness and love’?The answer is a resounding and definite NO. The only person who can canonically stand up to Bakugou’s behavior (andnot brush it off), fundamentally challengehis world views and complexes, match him in equal and opposite intensity with themutual drive to be the best, and receivethe full extent of his turbulent feelings, is Deku.

This is what I’m referring to when I say fandom often ‘ignores the elephantin the room,’ because THIS (Deku and Kacchan’s relationship) is an established,ongoing and important core issue of the series itself, that many shippers wouldrather sideline for the priority, current gratification, and fluffy convenienceof an opposing ship. Aka, simply slap them together with the first nice friend theymeet (in both Todo and Baku’s cases, it’s the ‘too many eggs in one basket’problem again…), who will solve all their problems and work to ‘change’ theminto better people…somehow? No, that’s the case of unrealistic, wishful thinking bad writing andtaking the easy way out when something -the elephant in the room- is too challengingand complex to tackle head on. Thankfully, Hori IS tackling their story head onas purposely intended, so I don’t have to worry about canon jumping the sharkon the progress of their relationship.

So, instead of Kiri being shipped with Bakugou, I much prefer him as a supportingcharacter (a supportive bro!!) who helps ease Bakugou into social/emotionalsituations that he’d normally avoid (which is how Hori originally designedhim??? to bridge those gaps -aka Bakugou’s loner distance - in the class) I’veread plenty of bkdk fics where Kiri becomes the mvp BECAUSE of his natural abilityto do this! With him as a much-needed wingman, voice of empathetic reason, and trustedsecond opinion who Bakugou can confide in to help confront his chronicemotional constipation over Deku. Shipperscan claim that Kiri helps Baku come to terms and become receptive to ‘softer,’ affectionatefeelings when they’re together, when it’s actually the opposite: Kiri becomes astepping stone for Bakugou to learn how to ‘make friends’ with other people whenthey’re apart. ‘Other people’ meaning: Denki, the ‘squad’, Todoroki, the restof the class…and most importantly, Deku.Let my son -Kacchan- learn how to form healthy, genuine relationships withpeople again, so he can gain the necessary experience and maturity to reproach hislifelong treatment of Deku and decide to patch up their relationship on his own terms. This, I feel, is a much more satisfyingoutcome and effective use of Kiri’s character, both in his involvement withBakugou and for the long-run benefit of the series itself.

But instead of seeing it this way, much of the (western) fandom overexaggerates the importance of Kiri and Baku’s relationship, to the point it notonly overshadows the content of other ships, but obfuscates the actual translated GEN contentof canon itself. (WHY!?!) I’m not even going to touch the propensity, hypocrisy, and irony of their shippers to harassand bully others for their opposing shipping preferences (that’s a whole other can of worms). Overall,it’s gotten so bad and obnoxiously rampant that I’ve been forced to block the ship tag for my own sanity and enjoyment of theseries. The ONLY time it’s ever beenrequired for me to use the blacklist function here, and that’s saying something.

Therefore: I support their friendship as supportive bros, but kr/bk as a ship was never on myradar. I’ve never shipped it, and I will notbecome interested in their potential as a pair. I used to be ok with seeing fan content of them around…until thefandom essentially and unfortunately soured it into a notp for me. Welp!

And there we have it, my full opinion on both ships. I hope that satiatesanyone’s curiosity on the matter, as so far I’ve had plenty of personal reasonsto stay in my own lane and only show my avid support for bkdk. This I’ve confidently decided and I will continue todo so, for as long as I’m invested in the series.

Lmao, I just don’t understand why they think this love, of which there is no actual tangible proof, other than in their own imagination, is the end all vs ... oh jc’s actual ACTIONS? Abusers love their victims. That doesn’t mean that their ‘love’ is healthy and ppl should stay in those relationships. Does that give him leave to strangle WWX just to vent his feelings? Does that excuse his doing his damn best to kill WWX? Does that make it okay that literally every word JC ever directed to his "beloved brother" was steeped in vitriol and bitterness? This bitch thinks NOT

JC stans seem to convinced that a person’s feelings and motivations can justify any action, which is... just not true. You can explain a person’s actions through their feelings and motivations, but that doesn’t mean they’ve done nothing wrong no matter what their reasoning is. Even if JC was horrified, which the evidence is against anyway, that doesn’t change the fact that he tries to kill WWX multiple times both before and after his death and psychologically tortures him for no reason. Also it’s just fascinating how apparently “He was sad about it later” justifies everything JC does to anyone but doesn’t justify a thing for any other character. At least make your double standard a little more subtle than that!
