It had been two days.

Two days since Jesse went on ‘patrol’ with Ellie and never came back. To be fair, they weren’t even out on patrol, they both snuck out without anyone noticing, but after two days their absence became noticeable in the community.

You were worried sick. What if Ellie comes back without Jesse by her side?

You had a class later and all you could possibly think about was Jesse and why he would possibly leave Jackson without asking first.

Oh, sorry, hun, but I can't see the photo. I have no idea what photo you have in mind because there were bottles literally everywhere in Tlou, lol.

But I still don't think this has anything to do with alcoholism. Be it Ellie or Joel.

Whatever the photo was, it was most likely meant to show us that Joel indulged in hard liquor once in a while (like after a hard day of work or when inviting Tommy or anyone else over).

When it comes to Ellie, I can't imagine her being fond of alcohol to the point of being an alcoholic. She doesn't strike me as someone who would fall so deep into the rabbit hole. She was depressed and traumatized, and yet, we never even got a hint of her trying to deal with her feelings by using stimulants.

I see her as someone who does alcohol or drugs (in her case, weed) just for fun and once in a while as a teenager. I don't even think Ellie or Dina would be indulging in alcohol much during the farm years. They've already been through a lot, so at this part of the game, they were doing their best to get their lives together. Plus, they were raising a kid together, and I don't think Ellie would ever want to abuse alcohol near a baby. The same goes for Dina.

I can, on the other hand, imagine a scenario where Ellie gets up in the middle of the night, thinking of Joel, and pours a glass to have a drink with him. You know, when you have the worst nightmare of someone who's not here anymore and you wake up feeling homesick for arms that can't hold you.

TLOU Rewatch: Episode 4 (Joel And Ellie Involved Scenes Only)

This episode is in my top 3 (Kin’s my favorite) for what should be obvious reasons for anyone following these posts. If TLOU was just Joel and Ellie talking and teasing each other or getting emotional over each other I would be overjoyed. Anyway, time to press play…

- It’s a good detail showing that Ellie thinks guns are cool. She imagines shooting a bad guy would be cool. She’s not scared of violence after all. It hurt to have to shoot Riley, but by that point Riley had turned. She wasn’t someone who could beg for their life. She wasn’t really human anymore.

- “...you could go anywhere.” “So where’d you go?” “Pretty much nowhere.” Yeah, mostly cause we’re too busy working.

- Joel being uncomfortable with the puns. Dangerous to his seriousness. Very likely reminded him of Sarah being silly too. :(

- Joel says “oh man” every time he hears old country songs he hasn’t heard in decades. IDK, I just find it cute.

- Joel’s “uhhh” when Ellie says the pages of the skin magazine are stuck together will never fail to make me laugh. He’s such a dad in this scene thinking she’s too young to see those images. But she already knows enough to be able to tease him about it. Ha

- Joel already knowing that 1,000 yard stare from Ellie means she’s tired. He’s only known her a few days. <3 (Maybe Sarah got the same look when tired?)

- Joel was so pleased with himself when he knew the scarecrow punchline.

- Joel not being able to sleep because Ellie was worried. He already cares about her so much. He couldn’t help it. <3

- Like Ellie I don’t like coffee, but I actually do like the smell.

- Joel broke his rule about talking about the past so fast. And he said A LOT.

- Ellie saying she’s not even tired and falling asleep soon after is such a kid thing.

- One of my fav parts of the episode is Joel making sure Ellie is okay after the crash and promising her no one will be able shoot her when she crawls to the wall.

- Momentarily distracted by Joel heavy breathing on the floor after getting choked. Haha

- Ellie getting upset over the older kid begging for his life. Rough. She wasn’t prepared for that kind of situation. Shooting an enemy who ended up begging for their life. Who was only an enemy because he was following orders. But who would’ve definitely killed Joel and probably her too cause that’s the world they live in.

- Joel seeing that and ordering her to get behind the wall. Not wanting her traumatized more. Not wanting her to see him end the kid. It could be considered a mercy killing but obviously the main reason is so the kid doesn’t talk. Kathleen’s group won’t know who exactly they are up against if all the witnesses are dead. It’s necessary to up their chances of getting out of the city, but it’s ugly.

- Sidenote: I find it really funny Kathleen asks if the guy will live. He got a knife to the heart. What do you think?

- Ellie checking in on Joel first. <3

- Joel may not be good at talking about what happened with her shooting the kid, but A for effort in my book. He looks as awkward as he is all hunched like that, but I love him trying. And I love that he gives her something she wants (a lesson about using the gun and giving it back to her) to cheer her up. Tugging on the gun to show how that grip makes it hard to take the gun away from her and getting a laugh because of it.

- Rebel Ellie putting the gun in her pocket instead of the bag like Joel told her to.

- “We’ll get through this.” “I know.” Ellie already has so much trust in Joel. It’s only been a few days since he dragged her away from Tess. Since they were annoying each other. But then she’s seen him try to protect her from seeing awful things and seen him react to Bill’s letter and caught him chuckling at her comment about the old music and just all the little things in general she’s caught while observing him has made a difference. Ellie’s been paying a lot of attention.

- As someone who has seen the game several times, I love the boost scene. I do like how he’s not great at it here but by the finale he’s boosting her like Game!Joel does. Nice touch.

- Joel always going silent when Ellie talks about him killing people. Particularly innocent people. It’s a silent yes that says so much about how he does not like talking about it. Especially with someone he doesn’t want afraid of him.

- The way Joel collapses to the ground after climbing 33 floors. I felt that.

- Love Joel being concerned about the fact Ellie has shot someone before but not pushing her to tell him about it. So many people don’t give this option to kids, they force them to open up instead of giving them time. And he’s honest with her about it not being easier as an adult. Also great parenting. 

- The scene where they laugh together over the diarrhea pun makes my heart feel overwhelmed with joy. This is the first time I watch this scene where I don’t get tears in my eyes. I’ve watched it a lot. It’s just such a sweet scene and it feels so good seeing them laugh, especially Joel, after everything he’s been through. He hasn’t laughed like that since his birthday twenty years ago. Only his daughters can make him laugh like that. <3

- The happy moments can never last long though. Just have to pile more onto Joel’s feeling of failure at every turn. Bad enough he didn’t hear the kid coming, he also ends up not hearing Henry and Sam cause he fell asleep facing Ellie and there is that cliffhanger. But anyone who played the game wasn’t worried (except over what was going to happen to Henry and Sam).

1. Last Song?

Ughgh I think Malibu by Hole. I last listened to a podcast and I only use Spotify so I’m like 98% it was Malibu. Anyways I love that song. It’s hopeful and sad and when I was in high school I really wanted someone to whisk me away and we’d go live somewhere by the beach in like a van. You know like those kinda romantic, hazy dreams of van-life before you realize that it’s not realistic.

2. Last Show?

I was gonna say The Last of Us, but actually I watched Modern Family last night. TBH my partner likes TLoU a lot more than I do, but it’s got some scenes that melt my heart a bit. Anyways Modern Family always acts like a personal pick-me-up since it’s kinda nostalgic. Plus sometimes I wish my family was more like them. It also kinda helped me realize what wasn’t healthy about my own personal relationships and know that life goes on even if your family sucks sometimes so even if it’s a mess it kinda has helped me? Idk why I’m trying to explain myself here lmao. I had a class where everyone said it was problematic and I don’t want people thinking I agree with everything in the show or whatever.

3. Currently Watching?

I just finished watching Wakanda Forever so I think it counts since I started this before it ended lmao. Anyways I thought it was okay. Not good, but not terrible. But I also think it was closer to terrible than good. It just felt confused, like it didn’t know what message or arc Shuri was supposed to have so idk idk. I’m not a movie critic so… yeah

4. Currently Reading?

I’m still reading Hyperion. I know it’s been a month, but in my defense the blues have hit me like a truck and I’ve solely been focusing on keeping my GPA. I have one more short story left, which is the Consol’s. Also, I should’ve mentioned but it’s a collection of sci-fi short stories (Canterbury Tales style) taking place eons into the future after Earth has literally imploded. It follows a group of people brought together on a pilgrimage to travel to the mysterious Time Temple on the planet of Hyperion. There’s more but I really don’t wanna spoil anything for anyone who might want to read or was already planning. Anyways the priest’s tale is my absolute favorite, because I like it’s spooky vibe and other spoiler-filled reasons. However they’re all written really well and I would recommend this to just about everyone since I think it’s just a really fun read.

5. Current Obsession?

Oof I don’t really have one because I’ve been feeling down. However Cyberpunk 2077 was it for a while, then TES again, and I’m just floating now. Anyways I’m always interested in TES, the Witcher, Dragon Age, etc. It’s just not as intense as other people though. I feel kinda boring now. Well, at least I’ve been getting back into art and blender and messing around with trying to learn my father’s language again. And I love writing and creating generally so that’s really that.

6. Unrelated Stuff I’ve Been Doing?

I already talked about this a little I guess. I’m learning Polish again and watching more shows with the dub in Spanish so I don’t lose it since I just don’t talk to my family much anymore. I’ve been messing with blender and unreal engine. I re-started this art-schedule-thing that I got from a yt video. I really want to improve my digital art. I also have like 10 billion tabs open with videos on blender and unreal so maybe I’ll post what I’m working on one day. I kinda gave up on my NaNoWriMo because I’m too moody and I don’t know what’s wrong with my executive function but we haven’t been on the same page recently. However, listening to podcasts (like Unresolved Textual Tension or You’re Wrong About and Rotten Mango) has kinda helped my mood a little. But if I’m being real here, real life kinda takes up most of my time. So school (gotta love deciding for a dual degree really late in my undergrad) and all the volunteer/internship things I have to do kinda just take up most of my life. That’s a little depressing lmao, but it is what it is.

like jesse- one moment he was there and the next he was gone. shot in the face. dead. and it only mattered because he’s our friend.

that stupid fkg surgeon we killed? oops. he was hella important. and he had a daughter.

and it doesn’t matter until we SEE that it does. until they’re not just npcs anymore but characters with feelings and families.

What's your thoughts on Abby from tlou part ii?

I don’t hate her, I think she served a purpose in the narrative and did it relatively well. I also understand why they included her and the “point” of the story. And I don’t think she’s a bad or evil person, at least not anymore than joel or ellie or anyone else in their world is. Idk how unpopular this is but I’m actually glad she made it to the fireflies and that ellie didn’t kill her in the end but that was more for Ellie’s own sake (and Lev’s) than it was out of any real love for Abby (even though I did feel bad really for her and hated that last fight so much truly FUCK the rattlers).

All that being said I’m just really not invested or emotionally attached to Abby as a character. I came into this game wanting an Elli/joel story because they’re the characters I’ve loved for 7 years, so I was pretty disappointed at having to spend almost half the game with Abby. Not to mention the part where you try to kill ellie as Abby which was all kinds of fucked up. Honestly the only part of her story that I remotely enjoyed was her and Lev/yara and even then, I wished it was ellie who had met them instead of Abby. Literally everyone else in abbys section bored the hell out of me I couldn’t care in the least about her dad (I still can’t wrap my mind around them making a sequel based on the daughter of a random npc you killed in the first game) or her relationship drama or her friends and it just made her whole part a chore to get through, especially when you consider that we could’ve gotten more flashbacks or dinaellie/ellie and jesse moments instead.

So yeah overall I think she’s an okay character but she’s just not one I’m personally interested in or would’ve liked to have the sequel of my all time favourite game centred around

Okay, its been 1000 years since I posted this gaming ask. But here are the answers!!!! I put most under the read more…

2. First game you played?The first game I ever played ever, in thehistory of forever, was Super Mario Bros. at my babysitter’s house, if mymemory serves me correctly

4. Longest consecutive hours you’ve played agame?Ohkay, let’s see. Without eating or bathing,but I did get up briefly to bathroom and drink water, I finished uncharted 1,2, and 3 consecutively in 120 hrs. Needless to say, I never did that again, asthe blood vessels in my eyes popped, I ate two bigmacs after, and my parentsyelled at me. Otherwise, without moving or tending to most of my basic bodilyneeds, 10 hours max as of late.

6. An underrated game from within the last fewyears?I don’t know, I’m probably biased and neverreally look online to see how the game was rated/how it’s doing. Oh! But! Ireally liked Battleborn, which was basically a game that came out like a littlebefore Overwatch? Or near the same time, actually. You also fight in teamsagainst one another with unique character abilities to obtain certainobjectives. Honestly, it is extremely well done and detailed, but very muchfalls in Overwatch’s shadow possibly due to similarity and budget D:  8. The game with the best atmosphere/scenery?I’m biased. I love Bioshock. But I also am ahuge fan of those apocalyptic, dystopia aesthetics. So, essentially, anythingalong the lines of bioshock, Fallout, and Last of us.

18. Worst game you’ve played?There are probably worse games, but I’ll go withthe most recent one I’ve played, which was Bound by Flame. It was kind of thisunfortunate mix of—attempt at—Dark Souls, Dragon Age, and other medieval games.Some parts of the gameplay were unnecessarily hard for kicks, with no way toovercome the boss aside from chipping away at the health by throwing a rock atit, while your single dead companion lay sprawled in the middle of the fieldten seconds into the fight. And of the one and a half romance options pergender you were allowed, none of them were very enticing. Spoiler** I overcamethe end fight by purchasing 10,000 potions to fight the dragon. I made itthrough just fine, only after using 600 potions. Strategy was little help, butheyo I made it through. 20. Favorite publisher and/or developer?…Sony? I don’t know… I’m terrible at thesequestions.

22. If you could turn one game into movie, whichwould it be?You know I don’t know, since any game thatturns into a movie makes me want to cry bitter tears of hate. I’m looking atresident evil specifically. But if I could turn Bioshock into a really goodmovie with the proper actors/actresses, storyline, extras, atmosphere, then …yeah.

24. Ever cried because of a video game? Whichone(s)?…Too many. Nothing gets me more invested andemotional than a videogame. I guess the only one that has made me actually cryvisible tears is Journey. The ending overwhelmed me in an inexplicable way.

26. How often do you play online? Co-op?Relatively often now, especially withOverwatch, and the fact that a lot of my friends have Overwatch as well. So,like, every other day, if not daily. Otherwise, I love co-oping with a friend mostlybecause the AI that they give to work with you tends to … suck butts. Lookingat Resident Evil… again.

For anyone who doesn’t know (I doubt that) He voicesJoel from TLOU, Booker from Bioshock, Sam Drake from Uncharted, to name theones that pop into my head. And he does like a million other voices, and sings,and is just very excellent overall. 

42. A game you will never forget (in a bad ORgood way)?Resident Evil 5 in the respect that I justplayed it during a very happy time in my life with one of my friends. And itwas also when I learned that I really love co-op, as well it was a supertreasured bonding time with that friend. We legit screamed so obnoxiouslythroughout the whole thing, apologized profusely, yelled for help. Like thatgame brought out our full range of emotion while playing.

44. Do graphics matter?Not necessarily. They add a nice kick, butthere are quite a few games I can think of where the gameplay and story aremore prominent. Storyline is generally always the main thing I look for first.Storyline and characters. 46. Always, sometimes, or never use subtitles?ALWAYS. Even for NPCs. Like the setting thatsays “ALL SUBTITLES” one of the reasons is because it alerts me to enemiessometimes too as they whisper in the distance. Which is the closest thing to awarning from jump scares that I’m going to get.

48. A game you’ve always wanted to play but havenever gotten to it?Um. I’ve actually been pretty aggressive ingetting my grubby hands on the games that I want. EXCEPT. Nearly everythingthat came out after Kingdom Hearts: Chain of memories?? Like 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 5 ½,365/3 days  idk there were too many?? AndI basically had almost every console except the PSP so I just kind of gave up??

50. How many games do you own?…uh… too many?? At least 200 if you total allof them from the dawn of my first game boy color.52. A game you will always stand behind, andsupport no matter what?..Fable. OKAY So, even though the game, alongwith the game company crashed and burned, I really loved that first game??Along with The Lost Chapters. I essentially based the experiences I had withFable 2, 3, Journey on how good the first game was. If I were to make someoneplay it now, they would probably think it’s pretty dumb, but I thought it was acleverly made game…54. A sequel you really want?… lmao Fable. AND/OR The Wolf Among us, becausethat’s been sitting there for far too long.56. Do you tell people irl that you play videogames?Yeah. If it comes up in the conversation. Or if…they have merchandise that I want.

58. Ever have someone walk in on a sex scenebetween you and you LI?N…o…60. The game you are best at?I know Bioshock inside and out… I don’t knowwhy I’ve played it so much, it’s a very linear game, but wuh. Also weirdly, I’mvery good at Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. And the only reason I’m obnoxiously goodat that game is because of the Chaos. I love those ridiculous little things andwould do anything to make sure they’re happy and healthy. And in order to dothat I had to play each stage multiple times to get the right power-ups andanimals to feed the Chaos…. There was a whole garden. And god.

Would you want to work with video games whenyou are older?I feel like if I start working with it I’llstart disliking it very much, unless I literally work as a tester… that getspaid a decent amount. Like seriously, walk in, sit down, play for… hours uponhours. Otherwise, I do not have the creativity or skill. lmao.

64. Describe your favorite video game using onlythree words?Underwater death city.

66. Game with the yummiest looking food?Final Fantasy XV. Okay, so I haven’t finishedthe game. I’m really not even that far into it, like… at all. I just saw thefood and got hungry. It’s so realistic and pretty.  

68. An older game that you’ve just recentlygotten into?I guess… Fallout New Vegas was pretty old, butthen my friend bought it for me on sale, and I tried it out and it was supergood??? And now I’m really into the Fallout series.

70. Do you play any mobile games?I.. play Fire Emblem Heroes, and a variety ofother mobile games like.. Notice me Senpai, Zen Koi, Mystic Messenger, uhhh…whatever is recommended sometimes. .

72. Have any guilty pleasure games?Not really. I’m pretty prideful in every game Iplay, including my otome games.74. Which game has the best lore?…Once…. Again, BIOSHOCK. Idk there are just somany little things in the city that you can find that point to the history ofthe residents, and what happened to them. There are those audio messages and littlesecrets that everybody has in the city, leading to its fall. I just love it somuch. Skyrim is a close second, to be fair. It’s more immersive and I canroleplay more on there.
