After taking some time away to let her have her space, Luster Dawn’s grandparents were invited over again to start anew on the custody discussions. But when they got there, they found their granddaughter with the Princess of Love and a lawyer to make arrangements on her behalf. The filly explained that she was old enough to choose for herself, and not only did the lawyer agree but Empress Cadence was ready to officiate things if they could come to an agreement.

Luster soon came to the conclusion that she would stay close to home in the Crystal Empire, visiting her grandparents only when she wanted to. Ultimately, the decision was in her hooves, just as it always should have been.

Danny Rand Is the Best Boy: Season 2x01

I have decided that I am going to do every episode because this boy is just so Good, that I can’t even with him and his baby blue eyes:

-Stopped an armored truck and when confronting a rude thief he said “say sorry” and then like accepted his apology??? Like who does that????

-Loves living with Colleen and wants everyone in the world to know that they are In Love and talks about her all of the time with his coworkers.

-He wants Colleen to join him in his vigilante crime fighting- but respects her decision not to.

-Works for a moving company because he wants to be a productive member of society

-Danny and Ward are still Brothers and they fight like children and I love them

-Danny is Too Pure- he is happy to see Joy again and just wants her to be happy and signs the papers without a second thought- he literally doesn’t understand when someone is plotting against him SOMEONE PROTECT THIS BOY!!

-Starts talking about his day as soon as he gets home to Colleen (Good God they are so Married) and then instantly drops everything as soon as he sees that she’s in distress.

-Dramatic Bitch- uses his hand to demonstrate the actual Hand, I am screaming.

-Still gives everyone a chance to walk away from a fight- he never starts his fights y’all but my boy finishes them.

-Proud Husband, Loves his Wife kicking ass on Date Night

-Doesn’t start kicking Davos’ ass until after he refers to Colleen by a very rude name. Vows to literally break him in half if he ever says another mean thing about her ever again.

-Dumbass Boy still hasn’t figured out a healthy way to deal with Feelings- glad to know that that’s still a damn thing, thanks guys

I love how strong the bond between them is. Of course he trusts her. He's an animal too and knows to read the souls ❤️.

Ironwing is a wild dragon Nina finds in Old Valyria. It’s unknown how old he is and how he ended up there. Before Nina claimed him, everyone ignored his existence. Just like her, he’s a lonely soul.

He’s a majestic dragon, with a serpentine shape. He’s black, but in the light his scales reflect a dark-blueish colour. His eyes are blue. He has several horns and spikes. He tends to breathe out smoke even when he’s at rest, and his flames are so destructive they could reduce anything to ashes in a matter of seconds.

He’s a fairly calm dragon, until he gets angry (it’s not a good idea to make him angry). He’s distrustful, and wary. Yet, he immediately bonds with Nina, and from then on they basically become one.

Just a colored sketch page for now, no rendering. Russian dragons. Not up to scale (don’t trust that visual on the right)

Of these, only the Russian Gray and Ironwing are named in the book (The Gray only in LoD). Both the Ironwing and Cossack dragon didn’t come with descriptions of any sort so I just winged it. Thoughts under the cut.

Russian Heavyweight - Big, green, and mean. Well, Vosyem was green, so this guy is green. Overlapping plates made me lean more on pangolin scales than thyreophoran but doing all the scales is killing me. I gave it a large nasal boss(I think thats the term?) to resemble the tapir-faced depictions of Zmei that had enraptured me since I was young.

The tortoise resemblance was not realized until after I colored everything, but theres only so many ways for long neck and humped back and thick rolls over shoulders read to me. Well, there’s the sauropod type but I prefer a more sprawling pose. I do want it a bit longer but I just like long dragons in general. Need to hold back on it. If everything is long then nothing is Long.

Russian Gray - Mostly gray and white with a narrow arrow-shaped head. They were described as stippled with spots of gray and black. I had on my notes that it was six to seven, but I lacked context on whether it was the number of individuals in the scene or its weight.

Heads being described as arrow shaped confuse me a little. Maybe my English is not good because I keep thinking it’s like… diplocaulus, which is NOT narrow. Yu-Lung, described with the same head shape, was also described to be vulpine, so that’s what I did here.

Russian Black - One of the other lightweights held in the Russian grounds along with the Russian Gray. Described as black dragons smaller than the Grays. Resembles the Russian couriers. Nothing much to say. Slavic dragons seem to be depicted with a crown every so often, so I gave it a crown of small horns.

Every time there’s a black dragon breed from Europe I keep remembering Laurence saying something about how there’s no black dragons known in Europe back when he was still a Naval captain.

Courier - Two red courier dragons were snoozing next to a flag. I’m inclined to think it’s a Russian breed, but it described the flag they were sleeping beside as white and red. Granted, I’m not really familiar with European history or flags. Maybe it’s a company flag?

Cossack - No description other than being courier weight or fly weight, the size of winchesters. Did you know that the Russian Don, cavalry horses of the Cossack, originated from Russian Steppe horses and Oriental breeds obtained from raids? I gave it a more camelid head, but didn’t want the horse inspiration to be too obvious. Not happy with the coloration just yet.

I kinda wanted it to be slightly bigger for some size variety, but it’s unlikely to be that much bigger than the other Russian lightweights. In the British (European?) weight system a flyweight is barely combat weight, isn’t it? So larger than courier weight but not that much…

Ironwing - Venomous. Thats it for textual description. Not much to go off of, so I put a lesser version of the heavyweight armor on it to help bridge the heavyweight to the others and slapped rusty iron colors. I wanted to give it some more resemblance(Is that the word?)for being an ancestor of the Longwing, so I gave it some familiar wing markings. Might add bone spurs but maybe I should keep that a sharpspitter thing.

“Luster, we’ve made our decision!”

It had only been a very short time since Luster Dawn finished visiting her grandparents, so she was shocked when her Nana Stellar swung in to tell her that they’d decided where she was going to live out the rest of her childhood. So soon!

“Already? I thought I was going to talk to some lawyers?”

“No need to worry about that! We’ve taken care of it for you!”

A sickly feeling settled in Luster’s stomach as she heard this, realizing that the decision was made without her input. Like all the time she spent with her grandparents was not meant for her to try them out, but rather the other way around.

But like everything else that had happened in her life lately, this was out of her control.

“Well…okay. But I can still have sleepovers at other places right? Like Gramma and Grampa’s? Or here?”

She asked, trying to see how much agency she still had in this situation. It was all going so fast that her head was spinning, she could hardly register what was going on.

“Sure, dear. But you’ll have everything you need in Sire’s Hollow!”

Stellar Flare practically waved her off.

“Now pack your things so I can bring you to your new home!”

Home.

That word felt so wrong to Luster. Home was where she grew up with her dads, not Sire’s Hollow or anywhere else. She didn’t know if she’d ever get used to that.

Nonetheless, she started her slow walk to her guest bedroom to pack, trying to drag it out as much as she could. She really didn’t want to leave.

But then she heard another voice.

“What are YOU doing here?”

Both grandmare and grandfilly turned to find Honey Bee and Ironwing charging into the palace, glaring at Stellar as they came near.

Stellar’s jaw dropped upon seeing those two but she quickly regained her composure, turning her nose up at them.

“I’m here to pick up my granddaughter, of course! As per the agreement! Now, I would ask the same question of you.”

“We did NOT make an agreement, you sleazy—“

“Luster, our little filly!”

Honey was quick to speak over her husband before things could escalate, trotting over to smother her granddaughter. 

“Stellar here must be making things awfully confusing for you! Don’t worry! You’re coming with us!”

“Uh—“

“No you are not!”

Stellar snapped, her words more directed at Honey and Iron than at Luster.

“My granddaughter will NOT be living with an ex-convict!” 

She spat out the last word with disgust, her eyes darting straight towards Ironwing.

“My background check makes it clear that you two are unfit to be parents! I will not let you damage another child!”

This clearly struck a nerve with the couple. Honey gasped like she’d been stabbed while Ironwing puffed his chest out aggressively.

“ANOTHER child!? What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

“Our boys are good stallions! Flash WAS a good stallion! You can’t just get up in our business like that and act like you’re such a perfect mom! First Base visits us all the time, how much did Sunburst visit you?”

“Well I never—“

“STOP!”

The three elderly ponies found themselves suddenly and firmly shoved back, their granddaughter shrieking in the middle.

For the first time since her parents died, she was crying.

“STOP FIGHTING! My Daddy and Papa are DEAD and I’m never gonna see them ever again!”

Luster was bawling at this point, more like a young filly than the near-teenager she was.

“And you don’t even care! You think I’m gonna do all the things my Daddy and Papa did but I’m NOT them! You don’t know me at ALL!”

“Oh, dear, yes I do—“

“NO!”

She smacked Stellar’s hoof away.

“You lost a son but I lost BOTH of my parents! I have NOPONY! I’m all ALONE!”

Luster broke down into sobs right then and there, and for once none of her grandparents said a word. There was nothing they could say to make it better. Finally they started to realize just how selfish they had been, fighting over Luster like she was a prize to be won rather than a filly who lost her parents. A filly who needed them to be there for her. 

It was long past time for them to shut up and let Luster tell them what she needed.
