Ruin You - 2
Word Count: 2k
Warnings: N/A
Please do not expect updates to be this close together in the future. I am in grad school but was too excited to write this next chapter. This can be seen as a bit of filler, but it's important, I PROMISE.

Oikawa Toru. It had been a while since you’d even given him an iota of thought. In high school, he was a non-issue. You never really crossed paths in the hallway, and when you went to practices, you were either too focused on your brother or completing homework for classes that you barely paid attention to. Sure, he sat next to you in class, but he was a quiet boy without his fan club hovering. Quiet, well-mannered, and very interesting.
You shook your head. No, what were you thinking? There was no world in which he was interesting. But now, as you sat on your couch and staring at Argentina’s roster, you saw that your brother was once again playing with the star setter from your high school days. Suddenly, you were thinking about that day. The day that Aoba Johsai lost to Karasuno.
Up until that day, you didn’t think a man could look so beautiful while looking so absolutely crushed.
You swapped over to look at Japan’s roster. You quickly scanned the list, almost surprised as you realized that your brother would be going against some of his toughest adversaries from his high school days. Not only would that red-headed speed goblin make an appearance, but so would his matching pair. If there was anything else you remembered from that last match, Hinata and Kageyama made for a formidable duo.
No wonder why your brother so desperately wanted you to go.
You pulled up the email once more, clicking on the PDF attached at the bottom of the surprisingly long-winded email. Most of the words were “PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE” with the occasional “PRETTY PLEASE,” sprinkled into the mix.
Not only that but the ticket also promised prime seats, ones right behind the coaches. Plus, as if to sweeten the deal, your brother had mailed you a special VIP pass that ensured that you would be able to meet with the players afterwards. It had arrived the day after he called you. So far, it stayed in its package on your kitchen counter, only serving to get in your way whenever you went to make a meal.
But now, it piqued your interest. Why was it in such a big box? You were sure a lanyard shouldn’t have taken more space than a regular white envelope. What else did that little shit send you?
You scrambled off your couch, cursing as the blanket that was draped over you tangled between your legs and caused you to fall forward and smack your face onto the carpeted ground. You groaned as you rolled over, pressing a hand to your nose, which had taken most of the impact. Luckily you managed not to do any major damage and your nose just ended up feeling sore.
You stood slowly, shaking the blanket off as you went. For a second, you thought about burning the cheap sheet of cotton before shaking your head. That would be a ridiculous thing to do. Even if the blanket had caused you a broken nose, it would have been your fault anyways. No need to set your entire apartment ablaze over a minor incident.
No matter, you would still be keeping an eye on the offending article of comfort. After all, this wasn’t the first time it had unceremoniously dumped you onto the ground like you weren’t worth the dirt under its shoe. As if you were a peasant.
You blinked, reconsidering your current train of thought. You needed sleep. Badly.
Regardless, you got yourself off the floor and over to the package. It was taped up inexplicably well, the tape following the folds of the box and then sealing off the ends. It was then tapped over and over again, as if to keep something from escaping. With a kitchen knife, you sliced through all the cellophane and revealed the hidden contents.
But you weren’t in just yet. After pulling back the cardboard flaps and sifting through the tissue paper that rested on top, you unveiled the VIP lanyard and yet another box. You were beginning to get irritated. It was one thing for your brother to incessantly beg you to watch his game but it was another for him to annoy you with a package. If he thought that this would increase your chances of attending, he got it wrong.
You removed the second, flatter box from the bigger box and discarded all the previous packaging. It was a white box, one that looked similar to the ones that the department store down the street would give you for clothes that cost more than an arm and a leg. It was taped much more conservatively than the last box, giving way when you tugged gently to separate the top from the bottom.
It was a light blue jersey, emboldened with the number thirteen and your shared last name across the back in white. The color struck a resemblance to Aoba Johsai’s current sports regalia and reminded you of simpler times. But the number… it was the number you once wore way back in middle school and had since held onto. While your brother chased his dream of playing volleyball professionally, you had stopped just before you entered your high school years.
You couldn’t help but smile at the thought. It was almost unbelievable that he remembered your number from all those years ago. Along with the jersey was a note. It was nothing special, just a standard piece of printer paper that had been folded in half to preserve the writing written inside.
It held your brother’s notoriously messy handwriting, stating, “You were my first role model. Just in case you can’t make it to the game, I wanted to say Thank You. I asked our manager to have this specially made for you. Still, I hope to see you at the game!”
The jersey was a sweet gesture. And the note did bring tears to your eyes. The game wasn’t for another week but you knew your brother was already in Japan. The team had arrived two or so days ago, the flurry of texts sent by notifying you of his return to the mainland. He was recouping the time difference at your family home back in Osaki. You just hoped that your parents were taking good care of him.
As they approached the age for retirement, you knew that they were spending more and more time at home. Your mom, at least, had taken to sending photos of her sprouting garden last Spring and had even gone as far as sending you fresh produce that she had cultivated herself.
You sighed, putting the jersey back in the box. You still had a week to decide. Checking the time, you decided that it was too late for you to be cooking up a meal and would have to resort to eating out for the fifth time that week. As the days grew shorter with Winter approaching, you felt less and less inclined to leave the house for groceries and instead often visited one of the many restaurants that lined the streets below your apartment.
You slid on your shoes and shrugged on a jean jacket before making your way down the stairs, passed your neighbor’s cat that often roamed the halls, and out the front doors that lead to be busy streets of Tokyo. You considered your choices. You knew you didn’t want anything too heavy, so the steakhouse was out. You’d been trying to eat healthy so the place with the many salads didn’t really pique your interest. Your only other options at this point would either be ramen or to grab a bunch of snacks from the bakery next door.
Considering it was 7PM and you went to the bakery every morning, you finally decided to give the ramen shop a visit. Besides, the carbs from the ramen didn’t count because of all the vegetables that came with it.
Making your way over to the shop, you took in the city’s steady thrum of noise. It wasn’t loud but it was exciting. There was a certain electric feeling that ran through the air that Osaki didn’t have. But you could admit that it did get to be overwhelming. Silence was a rare treat for Tokyo. At times like those, you missed the gentler sounds and the general quiet that the life in the country gave you.
The door’s bell jingled as you pushed it open, stepping out of the cold and into the warmth of the ramen shop. You enjoyed coming here not just for the ramen, but for the singles booths that they had for customer use. That way, you could eat alone without interference from others.
You put in your order shortly after sitting down. Your phone buzzed consistently since you had sat down, the vibrations letting you know that your brother was finally awake after having fallen asleep on the phone earlier in the morning. The messages ranged from, “Did you open the package yet?” and “Mom’s making me eat this weird vegetable, is this safe?” accompanied by a photo of what seemed to be her latest attempt at growing a carrot.
You finished your meal in silence, occasionally sending a text back to your brother. He seemed excited to be back home, which made you question why he left in the first place. Out of everyone, he is the only one who had actually left the country. Furthermore, to even play for the Argentinian team, he had to revoke his Japanese citizenship. You couldn’t imagine ever self-destructing your own life like that, even with the slim chance of signing on with a major sports team.
You supposed that was just a risk he was willing to take. You were certainly less courageous than that. Moving to Tokyo was already a stretch. If you were any less ambitious career-wise, you would have settled for the Sendai branch of the company.
Finishing your meal, you fished a couple of bills out of your wallet. Ensure that the amount would be enough to cover your meal, you inserted it into the faux leather book that they had left at the top of your booth. You shoved your phone into you back pocket and moved to stand, but as fate had it, your foot had decided not to listen to the rest of your body and remained motionless. It snagged on the bottom rung of the stool and you began to topple backwards. You swore, scrambling to grab onto the edge of the table to help you regain your balance.
Instead, your hands grabbed the table and the placemat on top. The placemat, which had not been a very good placemat to begin with, slipped off the top of the table and only aided in your backwards fall. You squeezed your eyes tight, and brought your arms up to your head, bracing for a rough impact with the hardwood floors. Great, you thought, yet another fall for the clumbsiest person on Earth! You were frustrated with your lack of coordination that caused you to fall twice in one day. Normally, you were fine and gravity worked with you but it was as if the Universe wanted you to fail today for whatever reason.
But instead of the expected hard impact with the floor that you expected, your fall was short and the impact came when you were still relatively vertical. You took a minute to debate wheter or not you had just gained some sort of superpower to freeze time.
“Are you okay there?” a familiar voice asked. It was coming from above you.
Slowly, once you were sure you didn’t gain a new superpower, you opened your eyes to meet your savior. You had to look up to even meet their eyes.
Their brown eyes. That met brown hair. Which, when travelled downward, met with a smile you knew all too well. A smile that had eluded you since your last day of high school.
You held your breath, afraid to move even an inch. The last time you saw him, like really saw him, he looked different. The last time you saw him, he was crying. He looked absolutely crushed, and he looked beautiful. But for some reason, probably because of the time spent apart, you realize he looked better like this. You could admit that Oikawa Toru looked better happy, and he definitely looked better up close.

In germany, in the early part of the 20th century, when Jewish families were forces from their homes to either escape abroad or die in concentration camps, they left behind countless valuables. Heirlooms, momentos, mundane objects they bought and treasured, all of which they were forced to leave behind.
Those things were then sold in auction to many, many germans, and now today there are untold numbers of german households that still have the stolen heirlooms of jewish families, some of which can't be repatriated because the entire family, for generations, was killed. Some of which will never be repatriated to living families because all evidence of their theft at auction was destroyed and anyone who could recognize it lives overseas with no idea the heirloom still exists.
Sounds awful, right? Heinous. Hideous. How could any german family with an iota of integrity keep such a blood-stained trophy of genocide?
Guess what.
The same thing happened in America.
We did it to Japanese Americans.
When Japanese Americans were forced into interment camps, they were allowed a single suitcase per person--sometimes per family--to take with them. While the government told them that they would be allowed to return to their homes, this was a "someday" promise, and Japanese Americans knew it was abundantly clear that they were to give up their belongings forever. Belongings they have sometimes taken with them from ancestral homes in Japan, passed down through generations, belongings they'd bought and worked for, heirlooms of spiritual and social pricelessness.
They had to give up houses they would not be able to pay mortgage for, while in the camps. They had to give up apartments they could not pay rent for, while in the camps.
And what did communities do with millions of houses full of beloved family belongings?
You guessed it. Americans put those up for auction. In millions of white american homes are "ancient japanese artifacts" that were stolen from japanese american homes at auction. Whose records have long been lost and those heirlooms will never see their families again, that sit on a mantle with no record that it was originally bought at auction.
There are people who are so, so into Japan, here in America. You know them. Maybe they're reeeeally into anime, maybe they're not. They reeeeally want a katana, they really want "authentic" japanese items to decorate their home with because they really appreciate the culture. And they may have a genuine love and appreciation for it! Maybe you are one of those people. You are trying so so hard to appreciate, not appropriate, the culture.
You go to a shop and see authentic japanese items that are probably a century old. You have a good eye, you can tell these are probably genuine.
There's no ledger for the item. No history of sale. But the shop owner knows it came from Japan because it came from the shop owner's grandfather who bought it at a japanese auction, he says. The owner is noticeably white.
You buy it because you love it and know the general function of the item. And you have now unwittingly bought the family belonging of a displaced Japanese family who will never see it again. Because sure, the grandfather bought it at a japanese auction. A japanese american auction. Something the grandfather knew but the grandchild only heard "japanese auction" and innocently assumed their grandfather meant "an auction in japan."
That is the most benign version of the story. There are more cruel sellers who know well their item came from a japanese american auction and they don't care. As far as they're concerned, they "legally" acquired it, so who cares.
And sometimes there are no records at all because sometimes the buyer came to the auction with a wad of cash, handed it to the auctioneer, and that was that. No documentation made or kept. A handful of cash for an item that a family might have given their souls to get back. Heirlooms passed down for hundreds of years. Knick-knacks made from parent to child six months before they had to give up everything.
And this is so, so incredibly common for japanese items ESPECIALLY here on the west coast. ESPECIALLY in places close to Seattle, Tacoma, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
That is the one of the lesser, subtler evils of racism: they can make you complicit decades after the fact, like ripples that only reach the shore long after the rock is dropped.

Chapter 129 spoilers
Short chapter this time, but I noticed a couple interesting things I wanted to talk about! Huuuge thank you to @hello-vampire-kitty for doing and sharing the translation for us, please go give her a ko-fi if you can afford it!
Tumblr media
First up is this little sequence.
these panels appear while misono is pondering lily's betrayal, mikuni's allegiance with tsubaki, and why mikuni might have burned down the east wing.
the flowers depicted here are chrysanthemums, which in addition to being associated with both the emperor (yellow) and truth (white), also have a festival dedicated to them which takes place during the ninth day of the ninth month, since nine is considered to be a lucky number. Which is also the number for the last sin left, the sin of Vainglory. Considering the association with the emperor, the ruler of japan, the butterfly flitting away can also be taken to symbolize Misono perceiving Lily as abandoning him, the King.
Personally my favorite part of this here is that there are two flowers and that either color could work for the situation at hand, but more than that, white and yellow happen to be colors associated with both our betrayers, along with death (white, Lily's favorite color) and jealousy (yellow, Mikuni's favorite color [more specifically he likes the color daffodil yellow but that's because he's a little priss and i love him so much])
However, they also have a more positive connotation of purity and friendship
Tumblr media
i also want to point out here that Lily is probably referencing the way the ritual seems to have been accelerated, but also Turandot itself, which has had criticisms leveled at it for the abrupt ending as well as the extremely forceful way the protagonist shows his love to Turandot, assaulting the princess with a kiss (which was fairly common for works of the time but didn't fit the mood of the story nor was it incorporated well according to critics). Also relevant to Turandot being used as the name of the spell is that initially the opera was left unfinished, which, well, suffice to say this plays nicely with the fact the space they're in can't be left until the game is also finished.
Anyway take this excerpt from the wiki to finish up because it fucking sent me
"Joseph Kerman states that "Nobody would deny that dramatic potential can be found in this tale. Puccini, however, did not find it; his music does nothing to rationalize the legend or illuminate the characters." Kerman also wrote that while Turandot is more "suave" musically than Puccini's earlier opera, Tosca, "dramatically it is a good deal more depraved." However, Sir Thomas Beecham once remarked that anything that Joseph Kerman said about Puccini "can safely be ignored""
Humans have never changed a single iota.

The West has been notorious in viewing and treating indigenous and Asian cultures as a monolith. Due to that, the idea of handpicking various aspects from those particular cultures seems to come from the result of a Western ethnocentric worldview. And due to how it does not acknowledge the differences in these various Asian and indigenous cultures….it’s hard to argue that it’s not orientalist. Especially since they combine these different aspects of those cultures in a simplistic manner to a western audience.
Whether the work encourages you to identify with the characters or not doesn’t matter in regards to if it is orientalist or not.
And I would suggest you research this show and Tibetan monks. If you don’t agree with their being orientalist aspects of the show, then fine, but that one aspect, in how they handled it, is orientalist.
Why specifically only Asian and indigenous cultures? what could two American Caucasian men find in those cultures that they think they can pick and choose certain things from them, and it end up being cohesive?
Whether a show encourages you to identify with its characters matters a whole lot in whether the show is Orientalist, because the whole point of Orientalism is making the Oriental Other look bad! If a work encourages you to identify with these “Others,” it’s actually breaking down the Orient-Occident binary.
To be clear, ATLA not being Orientalist doesn’t preclude it from being culturally appropriative. The important things to me are whether ATLA is harmful to 1) the cultures that inspired it or 2) the people from those cultures, and the answer to both questions is no. ATLA is not claiming to represent anything, and therefore it’s not spreading misinformation or stereotypes — with the exception of, again, Guru Pathik which I think was in poor taste.
I do take issue with how easy it is for fans to take the Air Nomads as representation of Tibetan Buddhist monks. I think Bryke should have gone further to incorporate more influences to get away from the impression that Air Nomads are Tibetan Buddhist monks (or Buddhists in general), because people now moralize about the Air Nomads using the plight of Tibetans, and the oppression of Tibetans — like the oppression of all real-life people — should not be shoehorned into a cartoon. Still, a child fan of ATLA wouldn’t think the Air Nomads are Tibetan Buddhist monks unless someone in their life tells them so, because the inspiration is not explicit in the text. It’s fans who draw asinine conclusions like Fire Nation = Japan / Air Nomads = Tibetans or Buddhist monks / Earth Kingdom = China / SWT = Inuit, and then interpret ATLA according to corresponding real-life dynamics, who inadvertently spread misinformation. I have never seen such ridiculous takes on Buddhism as I have in the ATLA fandom. Nobody with an iota of knowledge of South Asian or Southeast Asian politics would claim that Buddhists are always non-violent. Nobody who knows about monks would think monks can get married. But I can’t even fault the text; I fault people who take their information about Buddhism from a cartoon that never even mentioned the word Buddhism.
Fundamentally I think this conversation is about whether it’s okay for white Americans to take aesthetic inspiration from non-white cultures to create their fantasy worlds, and to what extent they’re responsible for the ways in which their fans interpret the sources of their inspiration. I’m fine with people taking aesthetic inspiration from my culture (beyond sacred and religious cultural practices, which I generally don’t think should be aestheticized by people who don’t understand them). I don’t know why Bryke chose to take inspo from Asian and northern Indigenous cultures; people can certainly say it’s culturally appropriative and decide not to watch it.

autism taking over. filled with need to buy every single home media release of trigun 98 to fully document them instead of relying on trying to find what are usually broken old webpages on wayback machine and squinting at low quality images and running things through google translate hoping to scrounge one iota of information i'm looking for. this is like the least interesting aspect of the series and i really dont need more than 1 release even tho i own 2 different english version releases on dvd and an incomplete set of the original japanese laserdiscs (with no player to watch them on) & 1 original japanese vhs release. and then there's also the japanese rental video series (vhs&dvd) then the victor dvd release which is harder to find much info on in english. and then flyingdog did a new release of the dvds in a set when badlands came out in 2010. not sure they did any more releases after that bc language barrier and i dont keep up with current things any more. and still trying to find concrete info about pioneer english sub tapes bc they stop being mentioned on the archived webpages for pioneer/geneon once the company name changed--only the dub tapes show up. so thats 2 sets of pioneer english tapes. then the pioneer english dvds and then there was a box set release of those. then a rerelease of the dvds as geneon in the signature series. some weird 4 volumes of a combo release with gungrave & hellsing. a single umd volume with eps 1&2. and then the remix dvds which i own. then funimation i believe they've done 2 complete series dvd sets, i've got the og 2010 one but also that one seems to have been scrubbed from existence i cannot find any archived mentions of it on thier official site while i own the set it's hard to find direct source info it drives me nuts. and this is not even looking into the releases in other regions i know of the australian madman ones and the spain spanish set by selecta vision but i know theres def more. and this isnt even getting badlands in the picture. would love to get the limited edition first release dvd bluray whatever it was from japan. and other regions got more bonuses and nice features vs funimations bare minimum bonus feature disc (boooooo). also the first funi dvd that's what i got. would like a blu ray of badlands at least for the better picture quality bc that was theatrical film so actually animated in higher definition would love to see the detail of the world better than the dvd picture bc you all know im a weirdo who loves looking close at insignificant details. but yea there ig o rambling a wall of text about something no one cares about bu tme lol

Captain Save-A-Hisashi rides again!
I don't know if the comment got eaten by the spam filter; or if it was another case of "did not understand my sense of humour"; or if the blogger has fallen into a black hole on the way to Andromeda, but I did actually save the text, and wanted to post it somewhere, in case anyone ever has any response.
{Comment followed a thread where a random googler had asked for explanation of the Greek letters in Buck-Tick's Nostalgia - Vita Mechanicalis. CP responded to the effect of, don't read too much into it, Imai is not very well educated and the whole thing was just a reference to some Steampunk phone game.}
((Further edited to add: yes, it's entirely possible that this is just a reference to a game, and Delta-Iota-Lambda-Xi refers to nothing more complicated than:
Tumblr media
There is indeed both a Delta and a Xi in these characters))
The comment I left in response:
It’s true that Imai is an art school dropout, and his monotropic brain simply cannot hang on to information he doesn’t have an interest in, such as penmanship or random prefectures of Japan. It’s such a SHAME that there is literally no place on Earth or Andromeda where one can come across Greek symbols other than high school maths class!
Chapter 1: amidst the profusion of Imai interviews I’ve absorbed recently, I came across one where our boy mentioned reading James Gleick, so it’s clear he actually does read popular science. (Sorry I can’t footnote it for you, my monotropic brain has never got the hang of footnotes.) Something clicked, as to why the ill-fated tour for Cosmos was named CHAOS: it’s a pun, a synthesis of the “Anarchy” meaning (another long-term preoccupation of Imai, hence the most obvious) and the “complex, self-organising systems” meaning – manifesting in the post-Gleick mid-90s as a pop-science fascination with Fractals. On the chance Imai was fibbing about reading a big book about maths, the ideas popularised by Gleick were widely discussed and heavily used in the fields of Videogame design and Animation – fields Imai has well-known and documented Special Interests in. Knowledge absorbed from pop culture is still knowledge.
Chapter 2: Imai got online in the mid-90s, as documented in his seminal “log off and touch grass” song. What was he arguing about on Usenet? Same things as the rest of us early internet geeks: “Dinosaurs, CT scanners, love, that girl's tooth prints, Klein bottles etc.” Your translation of “いわゆる全てに共通する図形“ is lost, but Google misTranslate is giving me "So-called common-to-all shapes" something that looks suspiciously like set theory or platonic solids? The ~Science Side of Tumblr~. Imai was soaking in it!
Conclusion: living on the net, reading popular science books, imbibing sci-fi, it is not inconceivable that Imai either *does* know the common maths/physics meanings of the Greek symbols he chose; or he lifted them directly from someone who does. (Edited to add: this is the thing; even if he did just lift it from a game; games designers are notorious for adding esoteric references as Easter Eggs. Coming from a game does not mean that it is not meaningful.)
So let’s look at these symbols and see how they link to other common geography of Hisashiland
Δ Delta – this is the easiest one. Delta is the rate of change, usually over time. Everything changes. The only constant over time is change. (The second law of thermodynamics, entropy fans.) ((Edited to add: if I look through my Tumblr archives, I probably can find a long post I made about the relationship between the Second Law of Thermodynamics and Einstuerzende Neubauten's Sehnsucht.))
Ι Iota – the smallest possible amount. How often has Imai referenced scientific words for the concept of the most tiny? Atom Futurist No. 9 (Democritus theorised the Atom – indivisible – as the smallest, infinite, indestructible building block of nature before the Victorians smashed this to pieces with the discovery of the Electron.) Quantum I & II – quantum theory smashed the idea of the smallest building block of nature the way Rutherford smashed the indivisible atom. Iota is another science term for the same thing: the tiny indivisible.
Λ Lambda – the Cosmological Constant. Since the Big Bang, the Universe has been constantly expanding (see section Delta – change!) Lambda is a little mathematical fiddle that Einstein added to the Theory of Relativity to account for the fact that the expansion of the universe is always accelerating. Why? Dark Matter? Dark Energy? This is hotly debated in physics, but in Hisashiland the metaphor of Dark Matter or Dark Energy is repeatedly employed as a necessary corrective for the Blue Sky of conformity.
Ξ Xi – this one was the hardest to crack. At first I thought he’d mis-transliterated the Greek Chi which is the standard mathematical X of the unknown. Xi is the Riemann Function. What’s he about? He’s usually associated with non-Euclidean geometries, surfaces that are impossible outside of multidimensional spaces – moebius strips, Calabi-Yau manifolds (the working model for superstrings, another way of trying to understand where all the extra dark energy/matter is hiding in 10-dimensional space, see Lambda for what Dark Energy means in Hisashiland), and… Klein Bottles, which Imai was getting in flame wars over on the early internet. To understand the true scientific nature of reality, one has to think outside the mosquito net – outside the constraints of the human limitations of three-dimensional perception. In Riemannian maths, dark energy can fold up to hide inside extra dimensions within infinitesimally tiny spaces.
Now these letters may have been chosen stochastically, but all four of them refer to concepts that recur again and again in the hermeneutics of Hisashiland. And one of Gleick’s most profound insights is that randomness isn’t actually that random. Even chaos follows its own cosmological order. Imai may be dirty and strange, but he’s nowhere near as cute-and-dumb as he looks!

Haru was a young lady who was always so full of exuberant energy, and yet- there were times where even she wanted nothing else than to lay down and sleep the rest of the day away. She’s gone on school trips before with little to no issue, but she’s realizing firsthand how tiresome it can be when you are traveling and time zones change, and you must use more brain power to understand an iota of the conversations around you.
She’d been invited onto a trip with Byakuran since he’d won a ticket or something and he didn’t have anyone else who agreed to go with him—or something along those lines.
Maybe it was the sense of adventure that called to her. Perhaps it was the fact that there would be a lot to see an expanding your world view was important to cultivating a well-rounded mind. It could the be fact that she could’ve swore she saw a bit of loneliness at the admission that no one else had wanted to go with him—
No, it was the reel of desserts on the phone that really had her hook line and sinker (and the last thing). It wasn’t just because she was a woman that she didn’t enjoy the idea of travelling alone, but things were more fun with the company of others. Haru didn’t think being a tourist on your own sounded very fun.
So, like a good friend should, she agreed to go on the trip with him, since it would be a waste of free tickets otherwise. (Wasting money is frowned upon, after all!)
Initially, she held some reservations since she didn’t speak the local language (nor understand a bit of it), but he assured her that it would be fine. Did she doubt him? No, but she was still surprised to see him speaking with the locals just fine. She’d assumed that maybe a translator would be hired to help them navigate around, but Byakuran was doing fine by speaking to the locals himself.
It was impressive, really. Though, maybe it was because of his past abilities to access knowledge from other universes that he could master different languages? That was her theory anyways, or maybe he’d simply learned languages for fun.
Thinking about it now, she knew of a lot of people who spoke more than 3 languages, and the Varia could be considered a major shareholder of the slots- given that knowing multiple languages was a requirement for joining. Varia-quality, indeed.
ANYWAYS, back to the monologuing. The trip was supposed to go for a week (guess he won the grand prize of some raffle? He was pretty vague about the details, and she simply let it go) and a few days into the trip, they’d already gone and done so much.
Touring around and checking out all the hole in the wall restaurants, trying the local delicacies, checking touristy spots, and generally walking around to look at how different everything was from Japan. The biggest thing was the average height was much taller here than back in Japan, so Haru truly felt small (not to say she isn’t already short to begin with).
All her bleary mind can remember was something had happened and after a long day, Haru had looked forward to sleeping, but the lady at the front desk stopped them. She and Byakuran were talking for a while about—something. Haru couldn’t understand a thing, so she simply stood off to the side, trying to keep awake by swaying from side to side. There was a point where she gave up, held onto his arm and said whatever it was, they could deal with it later- she was on the verge of passing out.
Seeing an exchange of cardkeys was enough for her to understand that whatever happened, they were being moved to another room. She can ask for details on why later. She could only assume their things were already moved if they exchanged keycards on the spot. Whatever. The fact that there was just one card though… well if there were separate beds, it didn’t matter to her.
When the door opened, Haru could see why the two had been talking for some time. Ahh—just one bed. Hm. It is a master bed, at least? She sighs.
Tumblr media
“Okay—” She rubs the temples of her forehead, another deep sigh. “This is where friendships get tested.” She says as she steps ceremoniously into the room and rummages through her luggage for a bag and a pouch. She heads for the bathroom, “Word of advice, telling any girl she looks very different without her make up on is grounds for you getting blasted by her friends in secret in a group chat later.” She gives him that piece of advice before closing the door.
She comes out later feeling refreshed and slightly more awake. If nothing else, she was grateful that she liked picking comfortable clothes for her sleepwear, or this would’ve been even more awkward for her than it had to be. It looked like he was tired too with the way he’d already fallen asleep, (or maybe she took too long—whoops!) and it would be polite to let him be but—she nudges him.
Tumblr media
“You should at least brush your teeth before sleeping.” With the amount of sugar they had today? He’d better get to brushing. Hm. He’s not waking. She nudges him again, a bit harder this time. “Ne ne, wake up. You’re going to get cavities. You have to care for your teeth. We’re not like sharks.” Humans don’t grow a new pair when losing their teeth. Really? She prods his stomach thinking that’d work (she’s ticklish so surely--). Nope. Nada.
“Weird… that would’ve gotten me.” She could never really fathom the way some people just… weird… ticklish? She was so ticklish and yet? Isn’t that so unfair? Well. She tried. He could be in REM right now, so maybe if she catches him just at the right time at the end of a REM cycle, he’ll wake up. Maybe! She walks back to her luggage and arranges things, and pulls out a small journal before she climbs onto the opposite side of the bed, leaving plenty of space between them.
She was jotting the days events in her journal, while also paying attention to the sleeping person beside her. If he made any movements, maybe that was a sign to try waking him again.
When she did sense some movement, she glances over to see his shoulder trembling. Maybe he was cold. Well, he’d slept atop the bed without climbing underneath the covers. She could only untuck the blanket on her side of the bed to fold over to cover him with it.
That was the plan anyways. Maybe sensing all the movement from her trying to untuck the blankets from the between the bed and the frame (she understood the need for consistency, but she didn’t like the way hotels tucked blankets like this) he’d somehow become unconsciously aware of her presence. She’d finally unlodged the blanket, and was in the process of trying to cover him, but instead she got grabbed. She was pulled in close and was held tightly, so she couldn’t escape.
!!!
She couldn’t say that being clung onto like this was something she had thought possible for the day. Stunlocked, she lay there frozen for a moment before noticing that he was still trembling. There was cold sweat on his forehead. He’s having a nightmare, she concludes. “Hey, wake up.” She speaks to him gently. “I don’t know what you’re dreaming about, but hanging out with me is way more fun than that.” Can he hear her voice? No idea. Will her words be of any help? No clue!
With the way she was grabbed, she couldn’t use her hands, but she has a head, doesn’t she? Haru knocks into his chest with her forehead and oh-! That seems to have done it. “First, let me go. Second, get up and wash up. Third, we can talk if you’re still uneasy.” She may be tired, but she can sacrifice some sleep if he needed someone to talk to.

While at first it was more a spur of the moment decision, by the time Decimo found the raven, he had put quite a bit of thought into the gift -- including some inquiries of those within the famiglia alongside his own judgement of the time they have known each other.
"Kyouya.", the blond greets with his trademark smile as he spies the younger resting in solitude, away from the crowd. "I have brought you something!", he announces as he raises the neatly packaged gift. An assortment of Italian small tarts -- pastries filled with cream, fruits and jelly. As Dino is well aware that his student is not too fond of chocolate and sweets in general, he decided to go for something less sweet. Besides, these pastries were all famous Italian desserts - a fitting gift, he thinks.
"It has been a while since we've known each other, right?" A pause. "So, I figured I'd show my appreciation." Though it often seems like he's the one being kept at arms length by the ever drifting Cloud, Dino believes that they have grown quite close to each other - he has been sparring and training with the younger for quite a while after all!
"Come on, open it!", he urges, eager to see if his student enjoys the gift ( though he doesn't expect much, knowing him so well by now). He had taken extra care that none of it would be spoiled or in any other way damaged on his way to Japan ( it is truly a hassle to bring such delicacy halfway around the world ).
@dyingresolvesolve has sent Hibari a gift for Vday [x]. Thanks for sending something! Hope you like the lil response thing, stay tuned for next month! ||No longer accepting gifts||
-
Hibari didn’t bother hiding his grimace upon having his rest disturbed by his mentor. One would think that over the years he’d have known better than to interrupt Hibari’s rest, but Dino wasn’t one to think things all the way through, it would seem.
It hadn’t been long since the two had seen each other last, and it was much too soon to ‘reconnect’.
The Cloudian sits up with clear irritation shown on his face, skeptically glancing at the gift Dino had presented him with. “You show gratitude by interrupting my rest. The sincerity is duly felt.” The sarcasm is practically dripping into a puddle from his tone.
Quite cranky from having his rest interrupted, he’d no patience to spare the feelings of his Mentor, who, was more than likely to let Hibari’s attitude roll off his back with a casual smile as always.
If not for the fact Dino had come bearing a gift, Hibari would have swiftly dolled punishment in the form of biting Dino to death. His own curiosity outweighs the anger, but only by an iota. He accepted the parcel and opened it to see the assortment of desserts packaged inside.
He could only assume these were a local delicacy that Dino had painstakingly transported all the way from Italy. He’d suppose that the level of energy exerted warranted forgiveness for interrupting his rest (but the transgression is still tucked away in the recesses of his mind for next time).
“Hm, I see no chocolate.” He’s gone against tradition. Though not overly fond of sweets, he was fine with semi-sweet things like dark chocolate.
As the Bucking Horse has come bearing edible gifts, it was only proper to invite him for a cup of tea at least, as per proper societal norms. “Very well, stay for tea.” He moves to get his tea set so he can brew tea himself.
“Afterwards, prepare to be bitten to death.”
Light exercise after a snack is only ‘good habit.’

B R Ambedkar: वो भीमराव बाबासाहेब अम्बेडकर जिन्हें आप नहीं जानते होंगे (...
youtube
THIS IS THE WAY AMBEDKAR WOULD HAVE CRTICISED THE PRESENT POLITY IN INDIA
Both Ambedkar and Nehru loved books and were voracious readers.Ambedkar did not like cast system and he advocated it's abolition.( I in 10 th class changed my surname from singh to Kumar).Had Buddhism coexisted with the present religion like in Japan Dalits could have migrated to it long back and would have been far better than what they r today and India would have been much better.
Ambedkar was a very educated person and dead honest ,he would have abhored the present dalit and obc movement centred just on reservation. The leaders of these movements majority hardly understand what education is as an instrument for clarity ,balance, broad vision , they r mostly corrupt as higher cast politician r and manipulating vote banks to their material advantage, Until Dalit and OBC movement is not lead by honest and educated people to inculcate sprit of dedication, cooperation to enhance self improvement, sprit of entrepreneurship and stop addressing themselves on caste lines they will never b able to rise out of this dole mentality of depending of jobs from the state (which r going to decrease in times to come)which is holding crutches even after so many years of independence.Caste will never allow people to become a class and majority will be manipulated by these corrupt caste leaders both from so called higher class and their own caste
The Hindu movement is a fractured movement just to capture power, why I say so because it is not inclusive movement of other religions, they say Hinduism is secular ,no Hinduism is tolerant ,if it was secular it should have not called Nehru's secularism as bogus ,it did not allow atleast that experiment of which I am an integral part to progress, yes the later congress practiced drawing room politics and pseudo secularism. it lacks spritual cohesiveness cause majority of its leaders r orthodox zealots and not scientific spritualist. Hardly few may understand what is Sanatan dharma in modern context .
Sprituality can never be forced .Universe would have long back made just chabi wala robots which present capitalistic west or even China is doing, instead it gave organic human creation with free will and a brain hardly used to even an iota of its capacity by majority .

The Third Industrial Revolution · IOTA · New Sharing Economy

Probably a mix of trying to keep up old traditions since Japan is still a constitutional monarchy and the fear of "EVERYONE WILL GET GAY MARRIED!" since Japan struggles with their natality rates like any old head they think wanting to suck a dick or sharpen some scissors once in your lifetime means you are forever gay and will never reproduce or raise a child.
They would rather uphold a oppressive system clearly harming the well being of their citizens(as whole since Japan has the highest suicide rate of the world) than give up of a iota of power and hierarchical culture.
