Okay, so I was thinking of coming up with a "Fulbright is alive" AU of my own, and I ended up rambling about my ideas to a friend, so y'all get an edited down/tidied up version
Allow me to introduce to you.... the Investigator Fulbright AU! Yes, it is inspired by the lies of the phantom! As much as I love the Fulbright we meet in game before the reveal, I wanted to try out something different. I'm honestly surprised this isn't a thing yet (as far as I've seen) >>
Ramble under cut!
So, let me explain the timeline
During the ~dark age of the law~, Fulbright became disillusioned from the justice system. Justice is his main motivation - he wants to make the world become a better place, to help people. When the system shifted to actively work against that, with all the false arrests, evidence, convictions? I don't think Fulbright could take the injustice. He, as an enforcer of the system, would actively be complacent to all those things. So he resigned.
For a while, he shifts between jobs, none fulfilling his need for justice and field work. I think one day, he gets roped into a private investigation, which, when solved gives him the same rush he felt when he was a detective. He opens his own obscure investigation business. He didn't expect it to do as well as it did - the ~dark age of the law~ made common folk distrustful of the system, so if a person went missing or if someone needed closure from a case that was handled poorly in the courts, they came to him. He even got lucky enough to be able to pick his clients carefully, to weigh the morality of what he's doing - he'd rather skip a case and eat cheap food for a while than contribute to the already awful system.
Actually, being an investigator was almost better, in some cases, for Fulbright. The lack of regulation and restrictions allowed him to come to conclusions not solely based on evidence, but on other things as well, things that wouldn't be admissable in court (such as emotions, subtle nervous tics, etc). He spends a couple years like this, his business being decently successful.
One day, however, he gets this recurring client. Always anonymous, very careful about any information they share. Fulbright is cautious, of course. The client needed information on various people's schedules, habits, etc. It seemed decently innocuous though - none of the people he tailed faced any harm.
Yes, you guessed it! The client is the phantom. I mean, I can't make an AU and not include him, y'know? So yeah, the phantom is careful to pay in Fulbright's regular rates to avoid alarming the investigator. He hires Fulbright for a couple different reasons: having a different perspective on the people he's going to impersonate is very useful, it saves him a lot of time and effort, and it gives him more information on Fulbright - The person that is essential for his plan to get his psych profile back.
We know that the phantom was being taunted by Blackquill, and like... I don't think the phantom takes on long impersonation missions often. It's kinda a waste of resources imo, especially if he's doing it unemployed. So unless we reason that he was finding information from the police while impersonating Fulbright, I think it's more fun if we force him to collaborate with Fulbright! And that's precisely what I intend for this AU.
The phantom comes up with a plan to have Fulbright collaborate with him. I enjoy the headcanon that Fulbright doesn't have family around or like. super close friends, so hostages don't work. He isnt the type to give into money either. So, whats left? I might think of something different later, but for now, I'm thinking that the phantom could simply impersonate Fulbright while committing a crime. Get some evidence of it, and boom, blackmail!
Anyway, Fulbright is forced to join the force again. As an Investigator, he learned to manage his emotions better, but in the force, he tries to portray himself as though he hasn't changed much. He's a bit clumsy on cases now too, having become rusty with all the protocols and evidence based arrests.
He isn't entirely upset about the arrangement, despite the fact that its completely unjust. its nice being on the force again, being a detective again. He did miss it at times, since being a private investigator wasn't exactly lawful at times.
Moving along, when it's announced that Blackquill is going to be a prosecutor again and needs a trusted detective handler, Fulbright jumps at the opportunity. Of course, it's mostly because he has to, but having had some time to research Blackquill, the old UR-1 incident felt off. From the time as an investigator, he knew to trust his gut, even if he didn't have the evidence to prove anything.
He gets the job because 1) most people are scared of ~the twisted samurai~ and 2) because Fulbright has experience as a private investigator, aka, people trust him enough to come to him. Being trustworthy and dependable are very important qualities when handling a criminal, no?
Anyway, from here it could branch off in a couple different ways depending on your preferences (Blackquill and Fulbright's relationship wise.), so I'm not gonna ramble about that here.
Going timeline wise and ignoring all that for now, i think fulbright tries to find out more about the phantom. I mean, although he's being blackmailed, he's still aiding a criminal. No way would Fulbright take kindly to that.
I do think that most of what Fulbright is forced to do isn't a crime though. I think the phantom would be clever enough to not push him to his breaking point. Also, the phantom is a paranoid fuck and would not leave any important tasks to someone else. He'd rather just impersonate Fulbright for the few times he needs to.
Anyway, in the final cases, I think that the phantom would take over for the investigation parts, but wouldn't be the one to testify in turnabout for tomorrow, simply because he wouldn't risk his life like that. Everything turns out pretty similar with the phantom being revealed, the truth coming out about UR-1.
I think it'd be fun if Fulbright got shot anyway though, because the phantom got shot at the chance of him yapping about the organisations he works for. Well, Fulbright has evidence of the phantom existing, which is pretty threatening too.
But I also just want him to get shot so so bad HAHA
Anyway, yeah! That's what I have regarding the outline of this AU. I have some daydreams etc in my brain as well, but nothing concrete enough to express for now. I hope my silly little ramble was fun to read :)

Well shit this ace attorney au case whatever thing has a rough outline.
Frick.
Well I’ll get down what I got now before I forget when I get back into the persona zone:tm:
This is beyond just like playing with giving Bobby a niece this turned into a future fic sort of situation so uh yeah imma ramble
There will be spoilers for AA5 below soooo
So this would be another time skip game which takes place roughly 8 years post duel destinies (spirit of justice is acknowledged I just haven’t played/watched the game in a while so all that matters is Apollo is off doing his own cool spinoff game adventures)
Our protagonists are Athena Cykes who’s mentoring the newest attorney to join the wright anything agency!… currently unnamed guy who I’ve been calling Pathos because I kinda want that to be his last name.
I’ll list down themes and the general vibe I want this ‘game’ to have since uh at most it might be a future fic.
‘Gameplay’
For all intense and purposes this is the closest we’re getting to Athena cyckes ace attorney, depending on how the writing goes it might actually just be my pitch for the game but some ocs are here because I’m normal about them. The pov would swap between Athena who’s come into her own as a lawyer (it’s been 8 years) and is mostly trying to do her best to mentor the young attorney who sought her out specifically because of her psychology specialty.
And then there’s Pathos, who since Apollo isn’t here is the new punching bag straight man! I’m still developing him but he’s a more serious/level headed attorney, who’s biggest flaw is he can’t be as unbiased as he wants to. Like it or not he’s swayed by his own emotions more than he wants. Pathos’s ability is that he can read peoples expressions and tell if they’re hiding how they truly feel/if their expressed emotions don’t line up with their words/can pick up if someone is trying to smother theirs emotions. Idk the specifics might change but my idea is it’s like an investigation version of apollos lie detection and Athena’s mood matrix, but instead the contradiction you point out is if their emotional response doesn’t line up with their words.
Pathos grew up in a situation where learning to read if someone was about to snap was how he survived, he learned this skill as a means of survival, it’s not something he was born with.
Aaand that ties into the overall theme.
Emotions.
How they’re expressed, how they’re smothered, and how they drive someone.
Listen if the main mentor is Athena there’s gonna be a lot of emotion talk, I’m thinking her mood matrix is primarily for the court room while Pathos’ thing is for investigations primarily, but they can cross over.
Uh anyways what’s the big case:tm: for this ‘game.’
That fucking spy orginization duel destinies can’t just drop that and NOT ELABORATE so I will and am. The past case is that a few years ago a deal was made with the phantom that got interpol names and locations of the phantom’s handler and others who worked for the unnamed spy orginization. A raid was done and many criminals and spy agents (assets??) arrested, however not all were captured and importantly in this story, the phantoms main handler (and trainer??) wasn’t caught. And the background story is that Simon is working with Interpol to track down those stragglers.
Notably, Poppy Fulbright (who’s a detective now that’s she’s grown) has also been helping but she’s uh… kinda been doing her own investigation. She wants Justice for her uncle and isn’t afraid to get involved in stuff she shouldn’t to that end. Sure hope that doesn’t get her in trouble haha!
Uh anyways other notable things I’m turning over in my head-
The main prosecutor is Eustace Winner/Sebastian Debest. Because I love him and I’m biased. I think at this point he’s come into his own as a prosecutor but he very much isn’t the best around. He still gets hung up on his words or how to say what he means, but he searches for the truth and always aims to do his best on every case he works. I just think the prosecution team being goofballs who genuinely want to find the truth would be a fun contrast (plus with Pathos being more serious the side characters get to be more goofy as a treat)
The assistant to pathos is a school friend who I think is studying to be a judge? Idk she’s planning to go into law at least, she’s also only a little younger than pathos (lawyer oc is 20 while assistant is like 19) I’m still figuring out her personality dynamic but leaning towards she’s the middle ground between the serious Pathos and energetic and bubbly Athena.
I love the judge but I don’t think he can survive another time skip, he can retire, therefore Juniper Woods is the new judge in this essay I will- (I’m not against judge Courtney who I’m forgetting the new offical localized name of being the judge either but listen listen lesbians. Gay people if you will. Plus it’d be funny for pathos to witnes his mentor and the judge lady flirting outside of court he’s just ????? It’s great)
Pheonix is around but at this point is very much letting Athena handle things, wt most he gets a few camios, this is Athena’s ‘game’ he’s off with his husband edgeworth or something. Trucy is also around and I think is doing well. If she doesn’t show up say she’s on tour for a magic show or something and pheonix is so proud.
Apollo is mentioned only at the start and it’s a framing device for the introduction as Athena is writing him to tell him about the newest rookie she’s going to be mentoring. Again, he can be off doing his own spin-off adventures.
Honestly it’s a running gag that pathos keeps getting thrown off by how many people poppy has claimed in her weird found family thing, she calls his mentor auntie, prosecutor winner uncle (playing with the idea Eustace and Bobby are half siblings for my au stuff so bringing that in here), the scary samurai lawyer uncle, some dead detective is her uncle, and it keeps getting weirder and pathos just is so lost. (And a little jealous she’s got such a connected support network)
Also. The fate of the Phantom is kept vague until it’s revealed for certain towards the end of case 4 leading into 5. Because it was a bit of a touchy case internationally a lot of things were kept tight lipped about the phantom and wether they were executed or not. Officially, the phantom was executed for their crimes after giving all the information they could.
Unofficially, they cut a deal to work with Interpol to take down the spy organization they came from, and any future ones (though they are essentially working off their sentence)
Honestly idk if the phantom would have a ‘true face’ at this point or has claimed one that looks suspiciously like Bobby Fulbrights idk this would tie into some investigation game thing with Simon and also au stuff and I have not thought about that too much just yet. This is all vaugly thought out and subject to change.
If it wasn’t clear the lead detective is Poppy Fulbright. Though Emma could show up for forensics idk I’d need to double check what she’s up to post spirit of justice
There’s either a new youngest Payne brother or the first case prosecutor is the son/nephew of one of the Payne brothers. I’m undecided if it’s funnier if there’s just more brothers that keep spawning and becoming prosecutors or if this has become a family occupation the next generation of Payne’s are continuing. Dealers choice.
Uh… ok final note
I’m still really vague on the cases of this game but I want an underlining theme to be emotions being surpreased/hidden causing harm.
Like a disgruntled wife finally snapping, or secrets being held for the sake of feelings causing a bigger blowout than if things were communicated, someone hiding their true feelings under a mask of indifference that sort of thing.
Ties into the theme and means I can justify mood matrix scenes because fuck you I love that gimic a lot and I’d this is ‘Athena’s game’ the fic then I get to shove in all the court therapy!!!! Nobody can stop me!!!!
Uh anyways yeah that’s what I got so far, any comments or questions are appreciated.
Like I said I won’t be working on this seriously for a while I got other writing projects I wanna finish/plan out before sitting down to work on a fic that has at least 5 to 6 mysteries in it when I’ve only written like TWO at this point.
So yeah ramble over hope you enjoyed ^_^

Blackquill: Prosecutor Blackquill on the phone?
In this AU, Blackquill is still a prosecutor and Fulbright a police detective. Although, Blackquill hadn't been convicted for Metis Cykes' murder. Despite this, UR-1 accident still happened and Fulbright and Blackquill investigate during their free time to find the culprit, the one called the Phantom.
Fulbright is the police detective attached to Prosecutor Blackquill making them colleagues. Nonetheless, they secretly live together in a little French house with a garden in the suburbs of Paris. They try to keep their relationship a secret among their co-workers, but it's sometimes more difficult than they expected. Yet, their neighbour, an old lady with a cat likes to spy on them and tries to blackmail them without success... Her name, Wendy Oldbag!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This illustration is part of my <<Crime detectives 1950's AU>>
This one is one of my favorite piece! I love it so dearly <3

99% sure this has already been done but I thought of a Blackbright swap au
I kinda came up with the idea while down in the dumps :l
Anyways obviously this means Simon Blackquill never went goth mode and Bobby Fulbright is now in Gay baby jail
For this au perhaps Bobby could get falsely arrested for, but he pleads guilty to to protect someone, in a different original case,
meanwhile Simon gets left alone to be Athena’s brouncle and Athena’s mom lives cause that case doesn’t happen in this au, yay
Anyways, fun idea is to also keep Simon Blackquill the bird man prosecutor, he’s just a lot more nerdy than intimidating now, also probably stays a coatrack because
I’m one of the people who pictures him as buff, after his jail arc, but for me it’s because he followed a lot of activities and exercises in there to try and starve off depression,
but since that never happened *points at This au’s Simon* C O A T R A C K
And Bobby Fulbright the detective, but now he’s an inmate police detective who investigates crime scenes for prosecutor Blackquill, as long as he’s wearing shackles and being watched the whole time.
Also Bobby is already pretty muscular (he’s not a dehydrated white boy he’s also got some chub) in my hcs so, I don’t see why that would change in this au-
I also really like the idea of him keeping “In justice we trust” as his motto/catchphrase, especially since in the case where the kid is blown and he’s saved I really wanna have someone go “I think “Injustice we trust” is more accurate here.” Or somth along those lines
Also Bobby still addresses to Simon as “Prosecutor Blackquill”, but in a derogatory tone now, like “I’m being respectful but I don’t like you.”
And Simon still calls him “Fool Bright” but not to make fun of him or call him a fool, but now to try and make him seem less scary so he doesn’t flee the room in terror from him-
will this aus Simon be the phantom? Well, I wasn’t planning on it but who knows

How would your muse react to seeing family while they're on the job ? How would they react?
ah yes, time for me to switch to "Bobby Fulbright is basically my oc" mode!
bobby has good relationships with his family overall and would be happy to see them while on the clock as long as they aren't the victims or criminals! in his canon verse his parents, brother, and sister-in-law know he's a cop and support him, and in my main au his mom and brother know he's a consulting detective/private investigator and are happy with that too. they're just glad he's alive and with them. similarly, his family would be happy to say hi to him while he's working.

This is a blog that I will be running as a hobby, meaning that when I have schoolwork I will be a lot less active because I'm at a crucial point in my education and I can't afford to slip up on that.
If anyone sends a request that breaks my rules, it will be ignored.
I maintain every right to decline a request if I don't feel comfortable writing it, however, I will be sure to make a post about this if that is the case.
Post length may vary, but I will try to make it as long as possible.
This blog is not spoiler free, however, if there are spoilers I will be sure to tag them.
Please don't send requests in when the request box is closed, I'll just automatically decline them. That being said, feel free to send non-requests in the ask box too! I'd love to hear your ideas.

How about Bobby Fulbright for the character ask? :D
ty so much for the ask !! <3
How I feel about this character (real) bobby just makes me very 🥺 i dont know why my brain decided to latch onto him so hard tbh, but i just love him a lot. i got super invested in my real!bobby lives au because i was mad about the ending to DD and it just stuck i guess. im so sad about what they did to him, i just wanted a good detective...
All the people I ship romantically with this character really the only ship i have for him is blackbright tbh, i havent put any thought into other bobby ships (if there even are any lmao). i like it romantically or qpp! phantomquill on the other hand makes me incredibly sad.
My non-romantic OTP for this character him and athena being buds is so good. i loved their interactions in game, they were very cute. goofy bickering and stupid jokes. all the puns. drive apollo insane with their terrible (amazing) senses of humor.
My unpopular opinion about this character do i have any hot takes on bobby... hm. i genuinely liked him and had DD not ended like it did, i wouldve loved to see him come back as the main detective. i love ema too but man. hes just similar enough to gumshoe to be familiar while having a nice amount of differences to be something new and refreshing. i think he could have had so much more and yet they ruined the potential with a convoluted plot twist 😔
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon. NOT BEING THE FUCKING PHANTOM ??? like GOD. whyd they have to go and make this absolute ball of sunshine that caters exactly to my tastes and then do THAT to him 😭 or at least not having him be DEAD. give us real bobby who was like. kidnapped or smth and lived and they rescue him after the phantom incident. real bobby who gets rescued by an investigation team and simons there when they find him... need me a tender reunion 🥺
send me a character !

hi hello ik no one's online but im gonna ramble a bit about my ideas for aai3 aka Simon Blackquill : Ace Attorney Investigations which is also related to my Turnabout Rescue AU <3
- as you might have guessed from the title, an AA Investigations game where you play as Simon Blackquill
- the first episode would basically be my fic: Turnabout Rescue
- game focuses on both Simon continuing his career as a prosecutor after Dual Destinies, and Bobby's relationship with his sibling, The Phantom, as he helps them with their rehabilitation
- certain parts where you can play as Bobby Fulbright !!! cuz i think that'd be rlly neat :]
- investigating mainly alongside Bobby, but also Detective Gumshoe (first episode), Athena Cykes and Apollo Justice
- various appearances of other prosecutors, including Miles Edgeworth, Klavier Gavin and Franziska von Karma
- cameos of previous characters from Dual Destinies (and previous games) like Trucy Wright, Phoenix Wright, Juniper Woods, Jinxie Tenma, Sasha Buckler, etc.
- Taka would absolutely be part of this game one way or another
- Simon gets an ability similar to Edgeworth's Logic Chess, where he manipulates people into giving him the answers he needs and you have to choose what he will say carefully (which i guess it's basically what Edgeworth also did but....make it more Simon.........)
- the overworld sprites are still pixel art, but the close up/talking sprites are 2D art
- CUTSCENES!!! BRING BACK THE ANIME CUTSCENES
- Simon gets his own objection theme of course :] and the Pursuit theme would be a remix of the Dual Destinies one bc i rlly like it
i think that's all i have for now :0

I’m trying to script for the Fae AU some of Monstrous Turnabout so that I’m not stuck for days when I get there, and I’ve decided that Blackquill’s stance on could magic be involved in this murder is “whatever is most annoying for the defense at this time”
He goes from “I’m an expert in psychology called in to deal with these silly superstitions clouding the truth of this crime” to “the yokai might have been real but when listing the ones she saw even the girl admits that Tenma Taro was not among them and there was not one that could have left those feathers” to “people cannot fly, obviously the killer could not have escaped out the window or through the air duct” and Athena is about to yeet herself across the courtroom to fistfight him in anger
After the disastrous first trial day, when they’re back on the scene investigating, they ask Fulbright if he knows what Blackquill actually thinks and he’s like “yeah I think our answer is that Prosecutor Blackquill has exactly zero convictions of any sort”

My Ace Attorney AUs
Apparently, I'm easily making AUs in a mere minutes. So, I'd like to share several of my Ace Attorney AUs that I have lately :3
Ryuenix AU: This AU is made in an attempt to mix it with its Japanese counterpart Gyakuten Saiban. Basically, Phoenix Wright is born in Japan as Ryuuichi Naruhodou before he moved to America and Apollo Justice is a cousin to Housuke Odoroki.
Lost in Time AU: Phoenix and Apollo accidentally sent back to early 20th century, where they met with the DGS cast and had to find a way to go back to their time. Phoenix took over Ryuunosuke's office in England while Apollo became Sherlock's assistant as his part time job beside being a lawyer.
Apollo Lestrade AU: This AU still tied to the Lost in Time AU above. Apollo Justice married Gina Lestrade but he had finally able to return to his time, leaving his wife and his newborn daughter Rina/Lina Justice-Lestrade. Fast forward to the present time, where inspector Apollo Lestrade, Apollo Justice's "descendant", is trying to solve the mystery behind an unsolved case connected to a family of eccentrics the Turners as well as searching for his "great grandfather". He is helped by his young assistant Aoi Tsuchi.
Touhou AU: This is the first Ace Attorney AU that I made. It's actually more like "make a Touhou character of this character and make them interact with the original counterpart". It follows the misadventures of a supernatural investigation group led by Ryuuko Hai (Ryuunosuke Naruhodou/Mia Fey), a samurai lawyer clad in high school uniform (despite her actual age is much closer to that of Mia's). She has an ability to see the absolute truth. Accompanying her are Kyouko Hai (Phoenix Wright/Maya Fey) - her sister who can make bluffs come true but cannot apply it if she herself is the one who bluffs, Amaterasu Seigi (Apollo Justice) - her apprentice who often disguise herself as "Houki Osuke", an Apollo look-alike, as well as being an archer and using sun-based powers (please note her sun-based is different from Okuu), Omoi Reikon (Athena Cykes/Bobby Fulbright) - a friend of Amaterasu who can control emotions including on himself despite lacking one himself, and Mahiru Haishi, also known as Helena Messer (Miles Edgeworth/Frasizka von Karma) - Ryuuko's rival prosecutor who punishes the guilty in a sadist way.
High School/Collage Lawyers AU: This one is fairly recent. It's based on this one screenshot collection of AA:DD's finale but the WAA are in silly DLC costumes. It's really just case 3-1 but instead of Mia, Apollo instead defending his senior Feenie with Athena as his co-counsel.

I just found the solution how Phoenix and Franziska can team up, remove Fulbright from Blackquill’s side and that shock device from his self, and have Simon and Phoenix as bickering investigation partners.
:D Combine all these ideas into one big AU!
Franziska demands Phoenix’s help in investigating the phantom’s presence / whereabouts as she investigates for Interpol. Of course they come across Simon and Fulbright, who are also looking for the infamous spy. The former ace attorney and the shackled prosecutor butt heads - the latter doesn’t trust the former, and the former quickly sees through and gets annoyed with the latter’s ‘Twisted Samurai’ shtick.
Then Fulbright makes the mistake of shocking him in front of Phoenix because he underestimates him. He can’t believe what he’s seeing at first, while he winces from a phantom (HAH!) shock that makes his skin prick and his heart clench. He hears Maya’s scream, and Manfred von Karma’s smug voice promising pain if not obeyed. Shock and fear then flip to anger.
A quick phone call, a talk with Franziska, and some politics later, and Fulbright receives a whipping just as he tries to shock Simon again.
She is furious that the law system and the government have fallen so much as to allow such practices. And how dare a police officer abuse his position of power! It doesn’t matter if Simon is deemed a dangerous criminal - if the police have to resort to such things, then they are useless!
With her sway in Interpol, she pulls Blackquill under her custody and kicks off Fulbright. She will report him to the police about his conduct and make sure he gets the punishment he deserves.
It’s only later that Simon realizes - he’s at first too caught up in the dynamic between Prosecutor von Karma and Mr. Wright and how they verbally mow down anybody moronic enough to be excessively uncooperative, which he morbid-cheerfully helps with; the glimpses he sees through his mask and wondering if he’s the spy; and his own bickering with the ex-attorney, reluctantly acknowledging they work well together; how they restrain each other from going too far - that his colleague doesn’t allow anybody to insult her assistant based on his disbarment. Or that Mr. Wright always stands subtly between him and Fulbright when they encounter him, with Prosecutor’s von Karma’s whip raised.
Why?

Note
Angsty AU idea: A Dual Destinies AU where there is no Phantom, plus Bobby and Clay are alive. Instead, Simon's lies in Turnabout for Tomorrow (that Metis was a cruel woman who used Athena for experiments and that Simon killed her to protect Athena) was really what happened plus in the AU, he hid Metis' body and avoided arrest for seven years. So AU!Simon ends up being the "final boss" of Dual Destinies instead of the Phantom. Thoughts? (PS. as a Metis/Aura shipper, I feel bad for making her bad)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The spy who sabatoged the HAT-1 rocket is convicted of the crime, but Athena knows he isn’t the one who did it. Simon wants to plead guilty to the crime, but he knows that if he does, Athena will have no one.
Athena, unsure of who or what to believe, becomes a prosecutor in order to become more like Simon, the only person who’s ever really cared about her.
Aura is absolutely furious over Metis’ death and is absolutely determined to bring down Metis’ killer. Simon feels absolutely horrible for her, but doesn’t tell anyone anything.
Bobby Fulbright becomes Simon’s detective, and they start dating. But Simon feels so guilty because Bobby’s always talking about justice and here he is, letting someone else sit on death row for a crime he didn’t commit.
Eventually, Athena (a rookie prosecutor) and Simon face Apollo and Trucy in court and she uses the mood matrix to prove that there were no yokai in that chamber. Simon and Athena lose but Simon’s very proud of her
Eventually, it comes to the point where this spy is about to be executed, and he begs for a retrial. Aura knows full well that he didn’t commit the crime. Another spy sabotages the HAT-2 rocket, and Apollo’s so furious that Clay could’ve died that he’s intent on finding the true culprit and takes the case of Starbuck, who’s accused of sabatoging his own flights so he doesn’t have to go into space
While that case is being investigated, Aura takes hostages and demands that the original case be retried. Apollo and Phoenix take the case together for the first time since Apollo became an attorney because they gotta save Trucy
So Athena’s the prosecutor despite not believing that the spy committed the crime, and after a while she calls Simon to the stand because he was there. And she uses the mood matrix and realizes that there’s something very wrong here
Simon eventually breaks down from the guilt and confesses to everything, leaving Bobby conflicted as to whether justice warrants murder or not, Athena absolutely devastated because her hero murdered someone to save her, and Aura in shambles because the girl she loved was murdered by her own brother.
This is a good AU pal. I like it

okay so au where instead of pretending to be fulbright, the phantom pretends to be athena
the UR-1 incident still happens the same, and then athena ends up in europe living with whoever and getting her attorney’s badge at a young age. phoenix meets the real athena cykes in europe on one of his trips with edgeworth, and invites her to come join the WAA. but the athena who gets off the plane is the phantom in disguise (the game just says the phantom can’t remember anything about who he used to be, so i can’t see why the phantom couldn’t be female instead)
instead of killing athena, the phantom just kidnaps her and holds her hostage somewhere. phantom!athena joins the ranks of the agency under the guise of helping acquit blackquill but really she just wants to get close enough to get the psych profile back (and then she can just ‘reveal’ that it was athena who killed metis like blackquill worries, and leave the real athena to take the fall and serve jail time)
the climax of the game (the reveal of the phantom’s identity) would’ve had much more of an impact on me personally if i’d spent the game getting to know this new protagonist character only to turn out that it was really the big bad the whole time. the way the ace attorney series has been written so far makes us set up to trust the members of the WAA. they get accused of murder (maya, phoenix, trucy) and the player knows that they didn’t do it, that they must be innocent. having 5-4 end with athena getting accused of murder and then having it actually turn out to be her as the culprit (or the phantom pretending to be her anyway) would’ve messed with the game formula in the same way that 2-4 messed with the player always assuming the client must be innocent and 4-1 subverted the tutorial case status quo of revealing the killer at the start and by having the first witness not be the killer
and then real athena cykes is brought in at the climax to testify and the truth comes out about the UR-1 incident and the rest of the game. after it’s all over phoenix invites her to join the WAA if she still wants to. aa6 still happens basically the same, except her seeming like a beginner again in 6-4 actually makes sense. athena can take the spotlight in aa7 and come into her own as a lawyer. we’d get a game of her dealing w what happened when she was younger w her mother, and what happened when the phantom kidnapped her. she’d gain confidence in her own abilities and become a kickass lawyer in her own right instead of the comic relief side lawyer they wrote her as in aa6
(aa5 is my least favourite game in the series, and it makes me sad that i dislike it bc it had so much potential. it could’ve been amazing? but instead we got a game of weird writing choices and too many new characters we weren’t really given a reason to care about)
i’ve only played dd all the way through once so excuse me vagueing my way through the exact story details
so 5-1 and 5-2 play out the same way. i don’t really have an explanation for why the phantom would be faking being athena in her inner monologue but w/e, we’ll just chalk it up to story and gameplay segregation or something
apollo has never met athena before so he has no reason to suspect anything is wrong w her in 5-2 when they first meet
5-3 is where the player starts to wonder if there’s something athena is hiding
juniper was her best friend, even if they haven’t seen each other in years, so maybe phantom!athena makes a comment about a childhood memory but gets a detail wrong and juniper is like ‘oh that’s not how i remember it’ but brushes it off
widget doesn’t always match what emotion athena’s feeling in dd, so what if this is b/c widget can sense something is wrong bc this isn’t the real athena
it would be interesting to replay this after the ~reveal~ and spot the points where something is obviously wrong
the phantom gets juniper declared innocent bc she’s playing the long game and what better way to convince everyone she’s really athena
apollo spends the whole game increasingly feeling like there’s something...off about athena
his abilities keep trying to tell him she’s lying but he can’t tell what about b/c i mean why would he suspect she’s a fake
it comes to a head in 5-4 after clay’s murder, so he puts the eye patch on etc
when phoenix runs into juniper at the space station, she mentions about how something seems weird about athena and her being...different from how juniper remembers her but she can’t quite put her finger on what’s wrong
phantom!athena swearing she hasn’t met clay before, b/c she’s not the real athena so she has no idea if they ever met or not
the trial still has the wham moment of realising who the phantom is (in the game it’s aura’s line about the detective telling her to lower the ladder but it would be slightly different here) except it’s an even bigger wham bc it’s this character you’ve spent the whole game getting to know
phoenix’s inner monologue guilt over not realising that the real athena was in danger or that anything was wrong
when blackquill is cleared and gets to be the case prosecutor, edgeworth leaves to go gather evidence on the phantom or w/e
fulbright is the red herring in the game, blackquill suspects him as the phantom so he’s blindsided by the athena reveal
phantom!athena is on the stand while edgeworth’s team ends up coming across the real athena where she’s being held
this leads to the classic ace attorney moment of someone (edgeworth) dramatically bursting into the courtroom
with him he has the real athena
she testifies and helps out the defense, phoenix and apollo are determined to help her and clear her name even if technically they don’t know her bc they’ve spent the last few months thinking they were getting to know athena cykes
also i have this mental image of athena’s sprite but she’s huddled in edgeworth’s big coat
it comes down to the thing w/ the moon rock earring, except the phantom thinks she’s won bc she knows her earring is a fake. the real athena has the actual earring though and she gives it to phoenix to present as evidence
the obligatory scene in the court lobby after the trial has them talking w the real athena
phoenix apologising for not realising she was in danger
athena thanking him and apollo for fighting her corner anyway
apollo is awkward w her b/c someone w her face killed clay but the real athena is innocent of any of that and also just helped save their asses in court and get justice for clay
phoenix offers her a place at the WAA if she still wants it
trucy helps persuade her to stay (‘i need a good assistant for my magic show’ and telling her they need more girls around the office)
the post credits scene is a few months later on a typical day in the WAA after athena has found her feet and she fits right in
the dlc for dd is the same except it’s set after the game and it involves phoenix as the defense and then athena is the assistant and it’s phoenix bonding w the real athena and being a total dad to her
aa6 happens pretty much the same
maybe we get a bit of insight into how athena is coping w everything that happened
when she and apollo investigate together in 6-2 it’s nice b/c they’re slowly bonding and become close friends after everything that the phantom!athena did in aa5
when they go down to the part of the theatre under the stage, maybe athena freaks out bc it reminds her of where the phantom held her and she tries to put on a brave face but apollo sees through it and helps comfort her and calm her
she then does the same for him when they go up high and he’s terrified of heights
the entire case is a nice bonding moment for them while they work together to save trucy
she really admires apollo as a lawyer and he’s really come to value her as a friend
apollo’s inner monologue when he looks over at athena is just him thinking about how strong she is and what a great lawyer she’s gonna be
her helping save the office really helps her feel like part of the family
athena regressing as a lawyer and seeming like a beginner again in 6-4 actually makes sense
it’s one of her first cases as lead
and her first case w out either phoenix or apollo
apollo tells her he believes in her as trucy drags him off to be her assistant
athena has a shaky beginning but ends up getting the correct verdict and helping her client
blackquill is pretty shitty to her in that case w how rough he is w her, but maybe in his mind he feels super guilty about not realising phantom!athena wasn’t the real athena, and while the real athena now tries to bond w him he tries to distance himself from her so she won’t be in danger again bc of him
this is something that can be brought up to deal w in aa7 aka athena cykes: ace attoney, they can find a balance where he still gets to be her protective big brother figure but she also makes it clear to him that she’s a perfectly capable adult and doesn’t need to be coddled
phoenix insisting athena isn’t allowed to be in the courtroom in khura’in in 6-5 is b/c he doesn’t want to put her in danger again
she’s kind of put out but she understands this is apollo’s fight
apollo still leaves at the end of the game, meaning athena gets to step into the spotlight
we lead into athena cykes: ace attorney
she’s getting more responsibility at the agency which is good but she still feels kind of lost bc yeah she got justice for her mother and she helped blackquill (which was her reason for becoming a lawyer) but she did it from the sidelines mostly
she gets to bond w other characters by having a different assistant each case (trucy, ema, phoenix, blackquill, etc.) (maybe even klavier who just keeps moping about missing apollo)
phoenix is busy w something else for a lot of the game (jurist system stuff?? fixing the law system again?? who knows) and so athena is the agency’s main lawyer for day to day stuff
let athena meet gumshoe please
athena and edgeworth bonding
a new female prosecutor who athena has a great dynamic with
bring back franziska too and phoenix is kind of put out that franziska immediately takes a liking to athena
we get to see athena grow through her own pov
the final case of the game is apollo coming home and literally getting accused of murder the second he gets off the plane
optional sibling reveal tie in during this case where athena has to figure out how to break it to apollo
athena doesn’t think she can handle defending her friend yet and so hands the case to phoenix at the start
she’s the co-counsel for the first trial day but then things happen and she has to take over as the main lawyer
she figures out the culprit and unmasks the big bad of the game on her own, helping apollo and getting him declared innocent
she’s in a much more confident place than she was at the start of the game
apollo tells her he wasn’t worried bc he knew he was safe in her hands
basically phoenix is still important to the new trilogy (aa5/aa6/aa7) but the overarching story isn’t his, it’s athena’s
this signifies that phoenix has moved onto a mentor role, and the baton has been passed to the second generation of the WAA
capcom please hire me i have a lot of thoughts

Justin Brillant - CD1950
Detective Bobby Fulbright investigating. In France, we had phone booth too but they were of greyish colours not red as it was the case in the UK.

You mentioned that you thought Dual Destinies wasn’t interesting. Here is a AU idea that would make it more interesting: Simon's false testimony (that Metis was cruel and experimented on Athena and Simon killed her to save Athena) was really what happened (and there is no Phantom). Plus: Simon hid the body and murder weapon for years because Aura would be harassed if she was related to a murderer. So as a result, Simon becomes a Tragic Villain and the "final boss" of Dual Destinies. Thoughts?
what? im still on investigation for turnabout for tomorrow hol up. but pearl and edgeworth returning was a welcome surpise. i wondered what happened to the man with klenex for a neck. also an au still doesn’t change the fact that the game itself is still very flawed. I love the new gameplay ideas, however, I still feel as if the story could still be better, tie up lose ends from aa4, more athena screen time (capcom give her her own game), etc. Once i’m done with this case and the dlc one, I’ll get back to you, however, my opinion of aa5 isn’t drasticly different, just a little more positive. But some positives tho: the blackquills are a blessing. Simons a fucking weaboo. i rEALLY like aura tho. she’s cute. i mean im a chick, but still. i’d let her crush my head with her thighs. Fulbright tries his hardest. Bless him. I really like edgeworth's slight redesign, however pearl's looks the exact same. I hope maya comes back in the end or the dlc case. Clay is awesome even though he never spoke "im gonna be the first to suck an alien's dick". The courtroom parts are still entertaining and I love athena and her ability, but I wish Apollo's ability wasn't relegated to investigations anymore. So overall, so far, i like aa5. I don't hate it, but I feel as if it's an improper sequel to aa4 and a weaker link the aa series. I wont be playing spirit of justice until i finish the first ace Attorney investigations game. Then I'll do the second and lastly, dgs later in the year, maybe next year.

@samurai-esquire, starter for vampiric AU
Tumblr media
“Is someone there???”
Detective Fulbright’s work often kept him out late, chasing leads and investigating scenes that require flood lights and flashlights to illuminate. This was nothing new to him; he had gotten used to long hours long ago when coffee and determination had been the staple fuels of his college and academy life. Perhaps his sleep suffered for it. But he got by just fine.
He had spent the last few hours knocking on doors and crouching by evidence to hash out the events to a crime scene, and his eyes ached as he made his way to the car. But something had caught his attention.
“Hello? Is anyone there??? Can I help you??” He stopped by a parking lot beam and turned, looking around. Nothing was visibly there, but something...
Something gave him the feeling of being watched.
