Eh screw it ok let’s get down what I got
Simon Blackquill Investigations (au thingy)
So uh spoilers for DD ahead duh sooooo
Timeline wise I’m thinking this place at least after SOJ, at minimum post DD, but leaning towards the former.
Plot wise, still a bit wip but the overarching case is that Simon and co are trying to gather evidence to take down the spy ring that the phantom worked for, arresting the handlers and any employers they can get. The cases will all be unrelated murders that will tie into this investigation.
Ie- a case about some talk show host being murdered connects to the big case because turns out the producers were employing spys to get blackmail material or soemthing. (Idk if all them connect So directly but that’s the idea)
Plot and case stuff is still being developed (I got like two and this is gonna have 5 cases god save me I got nothing T^T) but I got the ‘gameplay’ ideas.
I know this is gonna be a fic but like we can have a few gameplay elements as a treat <3
So typical investigation style gameplay but here’s the stuff I add/tweak because Simon is the lead. Just assume if I don’t bring it up then it’s unchanged from the game.
Mind Chess is replaced by Mind Duel, generally has a similar function gameplay wise but the framing is more like a samurai duel where Simon cuts down defenses via aggressive action or passive (using psychology like more than just for intimidation) until he reaches the secret being guarded. And yes the segment ends with the classic samurai sword cut thingy because ITS FUN.
Now for the investigation partner system. This gets added because (drumroll) there’s more than one party member!
Here’s the pitch, case 1 it’s just ‘Bobby’ and Simon, play it straight like any investigations case, but case 2 Athena joins in and that’s when the party switching occurs, case 3 adds in Poppy Fulbright (because au) and that’s the max we get here.
When you have more than 1 party member there’s an option to switch them out (idk if it’s a button and they all follow or whoever isn’t in the party linger nearby and you talk to them to join) each investigation partner will have their own little ‘ability’ and types of hints they provide.
Bobby/Phanny- gives the most logical and puzzle focused hints. Probably helps more with the logic puzzle pieces thing. Uh I don’t have what ‘ability’ he’d have, still working on that one.
Athena- gives the most empathetic/emotional related hints. Would help the most with hints regarding a Mind Duel or what to show a witness to get more info. She has her Mood Matrix (gameplay wise maybe we get some modified mood matrix sections, but at least she would be helpful with questioning people who are nervous or whatever)
Poppy- she’s a kid so her hints are more connected to who you should be asking instead. But if you missed a spot when investigating she would probably point out that you missed it (maybe even pointing in the direction idk) ability wise is uhhh Taka. Taka can be directed to collect stuff out of reach or something. She’s like 14 she can only do so much.
Simon- I will note that ability wise he is the player character but also has his sword and Mind Duel so yeah. Also Logic but like it’s an Investigation game everyone has logic.
During a case the party can be split up for some sections, ie simon and athena are focusing on a section while Bobby is idk getting held up by Interpol that sort of thing. There is at least one idea I have where I split the party and you play as someone other than Simon for a section but I’m keeping that to myself for now ;3
Idk the idea is there’s a little bit more of a puzzle element with multiple people being here to assist but to balance it out one person at least (poppy probably) will give a lot more direct hints to point you in the right direction. But I do like the idea they each give direct hints to various gameplay elements (Logic, Mind Duel, and Investigation) though the actual testimony stuff has the usual system. This is just for the walking around gameplay
Uh okay what else?
Well fluff dialogue is fun because at most you’ll get four different people commenting and it’s really fun banter. And like o said before sections of the investigation will split the party or lock who you can have as a investigation partner for sections, but ideally I’ll make it work plot wise. This is thinking more as a game than a written fanfic by this point.
Hm…
Oh! Okay this is something I’ve thought of too.
Case 1 Settup. I don’t have the case plot itself but I have how I want to frame it.
We play it straight, like this is the actual Bobby Fulbright, Simon is being his usual self as he quipped with Bobby and nobody is even mentioning the spy, but as the case progresses we get hints that add up to suggest that this isn’t like the original Bobby who was found alive and well, no that’s the phantom. So the question becomes “Wtf are you doing here and why are you still being Bobby??”
And by the end of the case you get the full context. Phantom isn’t free but does get some supervised freedom in exchange for helping take down the spy ring (they also gave a lot of information before this)
Idk the idea is we build up various hints like Simon being a bit too snappy, Bobby making a comment about handcuffs being uncomfortable or referencing spending time in a cell, just that sort of thing. The nature of this game fic means we can’t really have a ‘assume this is someone’s first game’ thing but I think that’d be a fun thing.
For people not in the know the reveal that this funny cop man is a arrested spy is fun, and for those who know it’s the question of what’s going on. You see the vision?
Uhhh anyways final thoughts on this uhhhhhhhhh Taka is a gameplay mechanic. (Poppy or Simon can direct him) athena gets to be here because I said so. And Phanny gets bullied yippeeee
Also I’m loosly playing with more a writing intermission between cases where we jump to either Poppy or Athena’s pov to get a sense of what they’re up to. Outside perspectives and all that.
Also agent Lang is here. For the whole game in some form. Kay also gets a camio in at least one case, after that idk who else gets to show up, maybe Franziska? I’ll play it by ear.
I’d appreciate any thoughts or ideas honestly I’m struggling to brainstorm case ideas I got like 1 and 1/2 and that’s being generous.

Ace Attorney Lawyers Ranked By Their Abilities in Physical Combat
Winston Payne: I’m pretty sure the average Tumblr user could kill Winston Payne with their bare hands.
Sebastian DeBeste: Look, the only reason why this wimp ranks higher than Payne is because he is so sopping wet pathetic that there is a significant chance that his opponent will just start feeling bad about kicking his ass and punch themself in the face instead.
Klavier Gavin: While Klavier is a physically fit young man who is known to keep his cool in extreme situations, he is also a giant law-abiding nerd who has never thrown a punch at anything that isn’t an inanimate wall. It probably wouldn’t be that hard to shove this guy into a locker.
Miles Edgeworth: Look, Miles is an even bigger locker-worthy nerd than Klavier. Anytime anyone, friend or foe, suggests a violent solution he just gets freaked out and begs for them to follow procedures. And no AA Lawyer is more easily thrown off his rhythm and startled than he is. He might have some bulk under the magenta and frills (or at least some impressive leg muscles from climbing 12 flights of stairs every day for like seven years), but he has no idea or will to actually use them in a fight. However, he did try and stare down a man who was aiming a gun at his back that one time and managed to keep his cool throughout all of this.
Tumblr media
So like, he’d probably talk a big game and try and intimidate his opponent into not engaging - but if that won’t work he will get his ass thoroughly whooped. And then he’d try to sue them, which is what his threats were about all along.
Apollo Justice: Actually a considerable step up in power-levels from the previous ones. Apollo might be smol, but he is Done With Your Shit and this gives him Strength. Not to mention that one time he successfully tanked an explosion. His famous Chords of Steel can also serve as a tactic to confuse or weaken his enemies.
Kristoph Gavin: Although he is primarily known for his schemes and poisoning, he did kill a man with a single blow to the forehead with a bottle, showing he does have some decent upper-body-strength to use in a fight. And being known as ‘the Coolest Defense in the West’ means he can keep his calm even during hectic combat. But he’s also very pretentious and his constant pontifications might just be the perfect opportunity for someone to smash his face in.
Blaise Debeste: Okay, look, is Blaise a scary tall man who successfully stabbed a woman to death with a candelabra and constantly carries around a deceptively-powerful lighter and has like, implied, motorcycle gang background? Yes. But also I think anyone who encounters Blaise Debeste face-to-face is overcome with such bloodlust rage that it might give them an edge in the battle against him.
Mia Fey: Mia ranks fairly high on the Battle Scale considering the one time she was faced with a violent altercation she just tried to escape and it… didn’t end well.
Tumblr media
However, in the two times we get to play as her it’s also clear that she wants to Punch. All of the Things. While Apollo is fueled by being Done With Your Shit, Mia has righteous anger - so I think in a situation where she is actually prepared to do battle she would be able to throw a few decent punches. Also assuming we are talking about Mia while she was still alive, there’s also her Spirit Channeling powers to account for. While we’ve never seen them on screen, Maya told us they are “first rate” and I believe her. Maybe she could channel the spirit of a great warrior to try and get an edge in combat?
Manfred Von Karma: While he also has the same Bloodlust-Inducing-Factor as Blaise, and he does seem less physically fit even though they’re about the same age - I feel like his cane could do more serious damage than Blaise’s lighter. And he has that dangerous fucking Stun Gun on him to easily neutralize opponents. Plus, he did tank that one gunshot he got in the shoulder. Manfred’s opponents might have Rage on their side, but also you cannot underestimate the power of his sheer Spite.
Godot: On one hand, Godot has shown an ability to keep his cool in very dangerous situations. He can smash a coffee cup with his bare hands and barely react, showing that he’s decently strong and resilient to pain. And he is yet another proud (?) member of the exclusive “Lawyers With a Body Count Club”. And while stabbing a waifish, 155cm college student (and part time-poisoner) in the back isn’t exactly the most epic demonstration of battle prowess in the history of Anime Lawyers - he did it (and moved the body and doctored the crime scene and prosecuted in court) while tanking a knife slash in his face, showing his pain-resilience once again, as well as general tenacity that would also be useful in battle. Also, he can summon an infinite amount of hot coffee mugs at will, which must make for a decent improvised long-ranged attack.
Tumblr media
On the other hand, his health is also heavily implied to be deteriorating and that he’s basically dying over the course of the final case… possibly due to all of that physical exhaustion. If a fight goes longer than just a single backstab, I feel like these health complications are gonna harm Godot’s performance.
Phoenix Wright: Okay, so this is actually the hardest one to place. I keep flip-flopping on where to put him, especially compared to Mia, and Apollo. Because unlike most other lawyers currently ranked below him, he is a disaster when it comes to being on the offensive; Phoenix Wright is a total wimp who has never returned a punch in his life. However, he is also almost supernaturally durable, unbelievably lucky and deceptively strong. If a solid iron door, a raging freezing river and a speeding car didn’t manage to take him down, what chance does a fellow human, even a more combat-capable one, have???
Calisto Yew: She’s not even a real-lawyer! She’s a Secret Spy who successfully pretended to be a Lawyer for years! She’s got a gun, she’s got a knife, she's got crossbow bolt as hair decorations, she probably has some combat training from her time in Interpol… While she’s clearly more specialized for espionage and infiltration, and not as physically strong as Lang, she’s still got an impressive advantage over most of the regular people who went to Law School. In fact, her skill with barefaced lies and manipulation might also be a skill she could use in a fight to catch her opponent off-guard.
Nahyuta Sahdmadhi: Nahyuta is, in fact, one of the few AA Lawyers to canonically participate in what I would unambiguously call a ‘fight’ (rather than a ‘murder’), when he single-handedly disarmed and apprehended a Defiant Dragon rebel in the sorta-canon ‘Spirit of Justice’ Prologue video.
Tumblr media
Like, that rebel guy probably isn't the world's greatest warrior, but the Defiant Dragons have been around for enough time to give their members at least some basic self-defense/combat skills… more so than the average lawyer on this list at minimum. And Nahyuta very easily crab-stomped him. Showing that he has strong nerves, some amazing reflexes and the martial art skills to knock a man unconscious with a single blow. Not to mention the seemingly supernatural skills with his prayer beads, which he already uses as a sort of ‘weapon’ in court. Also that... thing he did to Apollo's bracelet that one time.
Tumblr media
Nahyuta might be just straight-up Magic, that's pretty OP.
Franziska von Karma: Look, Franziska might not have official martial-arts, guns, or Literal Magic Powers - but what she does have is sheer determination and force or personality. Franziska von Karma has been intimidating grown men since she was a 149 cm tall 13 years old with a riding crop (I mean, one of those men was Miles, but still…..). She had once whipped Phoenix Wright into unconsciousness in a temper tantrum, and like I already mentioned that taking him down is quite a feat. She is also very resilient - while the shot to her shoulders was designed not to kill her, being up back on her feet doing investigation stuff a day after is still very impressive! Her whip might not be as dangerous as a sword or a gun, but she will not relent until she defeats you.
Simon Blackquill: Let me just give it to you straight, Simon Blackquill is 1.88 meter tall, he owns a katana and a trained attack-hawk (giving him both short range and far range advantage), he can break solid metal chains with his bare hands, he can cut your hair halfway across the room with a feather. Not to mention how he could probably use the whole psychological manipulation in battle to intimidate or goad his enemy. There’s not even a lot of funny or interesting points to bring up, he is literally an action movie character who just happens to also be a lawyer.
Athena Cykes: Athena Cykes is the strongest lawyer. One day, she’ll be stronger than whales. I believe in her.

Self-addressing of minor male characters in Ace Attorney (Gyakuten Saiban) / Personal pronouns
We've talked about the main male and female characters, but we shouldn't forget about the minor male characters who accompany us throughout at least each part of the Ace Attorney (GKS) series
The first man who accompanies us throughout the first trilogy is Itonokogiri Keisuke (Richard/Dick Gumshoe)
And here's an interesting point. His pronoun is "jibun" (自分)
Tumblr media
自分は、刑事課の イトノコギリという者ッス。
Jibun wa, keiji ka no Itonokogiri to iu mono ~tssu.
I'm from the Criminal Affairs Division. My name is Itonokogiri.
This is a rather rarely used pronoun; it literally translates as "self", although it has the meaning "I/me".
Jibun is used by about only 14% of men and 1% of women. This fact makes the pronoun gender-neutral, but predominantly masculine.
Compared to other first-person pronouns, the nuance of 自分 is introspective, and it's often associated with the military or athletic community, which have strong hierarchies. This suits Itonoko's personality very well, considering that he is a subordinate of the prosecutor and rarely thinks for himself.
Also, "jibun" can be an indicator of the Kansai dialect (Osaka), where it is used to denote both the first and second person. But, since Itonoko's speech was not noted to have any dialect (there are other features), and he was born and raised in the same city (and the city is from the Kanto region), this option is out of the question.
Interestingly, even after Itonoko realized that detectives should do their own investigations rather than rely on directions from prosecutors, and began making decisions on his own, his self-address did not change. Probably a matter of habit.
自分は、何をしたらいいッスか・・・・
Jibun wa, nani o shitara Ī ~tsuu ka...
What should I do...
___________________________________________
Next is our dear friend's father, Mitsurugi Shin (Gregory Edgeworth)
His speech is very formal (like his son's), and he uses the formal personal pronoun "watashi" written in kanji.
Tumblr media
私は弁護士の御剣信と申します。
Watashi wa bengoshi no Mitsurugi Shin to mōshi masu.
My name is Shin Mitsurugi, a lawyer.
___________________________________________
Let's not forget about Mitsurugi assistant - Shigaraki Tateyuki (Eddie Fender, almost wrote Raymond Shields)
Most of his dialogues take place with Mitsurugi and young Yatagarasu, and he stubbornly continues to call himself "uncle". (オジサン - ojisan)
Tumblr media
オジサン、アトでここの館長に 文句言っとくから。寒すぎだって。
Ojisan, ato de koko no kanchō ni monku I~tsu toku kara. Samu sugi datte .
Uncle going to complain to the director of this place later. It's too cold.
It was not easy to catch his personal self-addressing with other people, but not impossible.
In dialogues with others, Shigaraki-san uses the polite male pronoun "boku" (like Naruhodō/Wright)
Tumblr media
ぼく、その・・・・! がんばって助けますからッ!
Boku, sono! Ganbatte tasuke masu kara ~Tsu !
I, well...! I'll do my best to help you!
___________________________________________
Let's not forget about our permanent presiding judge (here is someone who, with rare exceptions, is always with us)
Tumblr media
ええ!わ、私がですか?
! Wa, watashi gadesu ka?
What? Me?
___________________________________________
The new generation is first represented by rock star and hard-working prosecutor - Garyu Kyoya (Klavier Gavin)
Despite his prominent image as a musician and rock star, Kyouya uses the polite masculine pronoun "boku" (the same one used by Naruhodō/Wright).
Tumblr media
ぼくも楽しみにしているんだ。
boku mo tanoshimini shite iru nda.
I'm looking forward to it too.
His speech is generally polite, and in the original he uses various English phrases in his speech, written either in Latin or Katakana. These phrases, by the way, are often used at concerts of musical groups whose first language is not English. (In the localization, as you know, German was used as a substitute).
Tumblr media
オーケイ、ベイビー!
ōkei, beibī!
Okay, baby!
___________________________________________
Mr. Garyu Kirihito (Kristoph Gavin) uses the personal pronoun "watashi", which is written in kanji, indicating formal speech and an adult character.
Tumblr media
___________________________________________
The second prosecutor from the new generation is a master of psychological manipulation, Yugami Jin (Simon Blackquill)
To be honest, his image as a samurai somewhat clouded my eyes, and I expected some self-addresses inherent in this category (for example, "yo")
But no, Yugami-kun uses the crude male pronoun "ore" (like Odoroki/Apollo)
Tumblr media
それと、俺は検事ってェ立場上、 おめえさんに手は貸さねェからな。
soreto, ore wa kenji tte ~e tachiba-jō, o-me e-san ni te wa kasa nēkara na.
Also, because I'm a prosecutor, I won't help you.
We don't know when he started using this designation (there are no monologues from him before his arrest), but judging by his characterization from other characters, he behaved very noble and politely, so perhaps he could change the personal pronoun to a more rude one to maintain the image of a "cruel criminal".
His manner of speech is, in principle, extremely interesting, and, I think, worthy of a separate post. In short - he speaks in a dialect + uses obsolete words + he has a special way of addressing other characters
___________________________________________
The third prosecutor from the new generation, who is also a monk from the kingdom of Khurain - Sahdmadhi Nahyuta (his name was not localized, thank you)
But this young man has an extremely interesting way of addressing himself.
"Sesso" (拙僧) literally means "inept monk".
This is a VERY modest form of address that was used by Buddhist monks.
Tumblr media
拙僧がこの事件の担当に ふさわしくないと・・・・?
sessō ga kono jiken no tantō ni fusawashikunai to?
Are you saying I'm not fit to take charge of this case...?
But, this is very different from his speech. Canonically, he is a foreigner, so he does not know all the features of the language in which the hearings are held. Therefore, Nahyuta uses, either unknowingly or intentionally, quite rude vocabulary and manner of speech (at the first hearing with him as a prosecutor, the judge, Odoroki and Kizuki were shocked). Even a native speaker, whose walkthrough I watched, was surprised and commented on this moment.
___________________________________________
Well, that's probably it for now on the topic of personal pronouns, but if you're interested in someone specific that I haven't mentioned, give me a sign.

SPOILERS FOR THE GREAT ACE ATTORNEY 2 AND ACE ATTORNEY INVESTIGATIONS later on in this post
gonna cornplate here but this was something that I realized awhile ago but I haven’t actually talked about before
ok so the 20th anniversary art. It has characters from the main games on one side (+ Kay and Eustace) and characters from TGAA on the other. for the MAIN main characters, most of them have a parallel on either side (like how Gant parallels Stronghart, Kristoph parallels Seishiro, etc)
Tumblr media
but for Gumshoe, his parallel is Gina
Tumblr media
you’d THINK that his parallel would be Gregson, but really, they don’t have THAT much in common aside from being officers who wear the same shade of green, like Gumshoe is lower than dirt poor, he can barely afford cup noodles, a lot of times he can be a bit empty-headed, he isn’t the MOST professional, and he’s isn’t really respected among the other officers
meanwhile, Gregson is seemingly well off, he doesn’t seem to be struggling, he CAN afford to eat since he has an infinite supply of fish and chips that he’s eating 24/7, he’s a lot more professional than Gumshoe is, and he pays a lot more attention to things that (pre-AAI games) Gumshoe wouldn’t, and he was one of the most respected officers at Scotland Yard, probably THE most respected (and y’know also he’s dead and Gumshoe isn’t. so,)
but the character Gumshoe DOES have more in similarity with is Gina
Tumblr media
they’re both poor, their clothes are old and don’t really suit them (like Gina’s clothes are too big for her, and Gumshoe’s coat is really dirty, at least I’m pretty that’s what they said), they’re both the main person who takes care of the police dog, they aren’t really respected as officers, they’re usually the most lenient and nicest towards the defense, and they’ve both had mentors that were on the force that they looked up to, only for it to be revealed that they were a part of a group of people who committed crimes because they thought the law was too limiting (Badd with the Yatagarasu, and Gregson with the Reaper of the Bailey)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don’t know if it was Kazuya Nuri’s intention intention for them to parallel each other in the art, like I’m almost definitely looking too far into this, but hey, I thought that it was interesting lol, so

How to be a successful Ace Attorney Prosecutor:
Step 1) Pass the Bar exam. This is presumably very easy, considering how young some of the lawyers and prosecutors are in the series. They hand those badges out like hotcakes. Presumably it's part of Themis Legal Academy's graduation package, so you might not even have to TAKE the bar exam! Step 2) Only take murder cases. This will probably happen to you regardless of whether you want it to or not, so I'm including it in the list so you feel like you have SOME control over your life. Step 3) Be an honest and morally good person who seeks for truth and justice above all else in court. This one isn't TECHNICALLY mandatory, but eventually you'll end up facing off against someone from the Wright Anything Agency and once they're involved you'd better get on the level fast, or you risk either humiliation or being arrested for murder. Better to get this one out of the way sooner rather than later. Step 4) Pay the Detectives. Please. Gumshoe desperately needs a raise. If you aren't going to pay your Detectives, you should at LEAST take a summer sabbatical in Europe. Germany would be best. Step 5) This is very important: Be a sadist. Just a bit. Be a troll. A gremlin. A deranged little maniac. You're going to be watching a lot of people suffer on the witness stand (and behind the Defense's bench), and if you don't enjoy watching that happen then you're in for a very miserable career. Might as well get SOME entertainment out of it. Trust me, if you aren't capable of making Phoenix Wright recoil in fear, you're doing your job wrong.

One of the most fun and interesting things about the ace attorney games is that all of the main characters are deeply flawed.
From Edgeworth's disappearing/reappearing act in aa2, not to mention literally quoting his own SUICIDE NOTE in COURT:
Tumblr media
And then in aai, his acting above the law honestly all the time because his special interest is the truth and he's certain he's the best detective around, which is justifiable but kind of extreme,
To the absolute ASS Phoenix was to Apollo all throughout ajaa, which i don't have receipts for but you remember, and his consistent trend of caustically lying to grown people capable of making decisions because he doesn't want to upset them in the moment (eg, the apollo-trucy-thalassa relation that is still hidden),
To the absolutely horrendous SHIT Apollo pulled during Turnabout for Tomorrow, which includes but is not limited to assisting terrorism (encouraging Aura Blackquill to continue the trial), asking for his close friend and motiveless colleague Athena to be arrested for murder, and leaving his ACTUAL SISTER AT GUNPOINT BY A RADICAL TERRORIST, all because he couldn't handle not having trust for like a day. If he had waited literally a day, the trial would have continued (bc at that point Terrans murder hadn't been solved) AND the TWELVE random people and FUCKING TRUCY could have escaped the space station!!! But nooo, polly, do egg on the murderously radicalized Blackquill sibling who spent years hating an actual child SURE GREAT IDEA.
Even the secondary characters have no concept of normal, with simon blackquill being a convicted death row inmate for most of dual destinies, Athena having enough trauma to kill a horse, trucy and maya with abandonment issues, pearly dealing with everything morgan and dahlia did, and Lana and ema's whole thing, not to mention the von karma fiasco.
Honestly the most normal person in all the games is klavier, who is a world famous pop star with an insane and violent serial poisoner as a brother.
I love all the characters in this game, nick and miles are my blorbos, and I adore nearly everybody else, but damn if this game doesn't make some extremely flawed little guys. Ask my parents or friends, they'll tell you how angry I got at points, lmao.
And i haven't even played SOJ or TGAA yet. I should probably be worried.
