• Why be you when you can be me? •
We are creating a single, cyborgian look using Facetune, plastic surgery and makeup.
In the days before social media, our beauty habits were defined by factors like geography and ethnicity. Thanks to the internet, people no longer have to travel to see beauty trends from all over the world.
What we have now is a sort of aggressive version of what the ultimate in multicultural beauty could look like: sharp cat eyes, full matte lips and well-groomed brows ― could technically work on someone with any skin tone or nationality.
People want to fit in.
One way to do so, especially online, is to model yourself after social media’s most popular figures, such as celebrities like Kylie Jenner.
Then there’s the cosmetic surgery aspect. While not everyone is open about possible work they’ve had done, there is a chance people are enhancing their looks with needles and fillers.
We don’t all look young and we don’t all have full lips and smooth skin, and when you see this kind of uniformity, it’s a real denial of human physical features, I think that’s ugly no matter what. That kind of denial hurts people. It makes them feel erased, and for women in particular, it makes them spend God knows how much time trying and trying to reach that look that they may be genetically unable to reach.
It’s also important to remember that not everyone on Instagram or social media in general is perpetuating this homogenized beauty standard.
Additionally, there’s no need to shame those who participate or find solace in conforming to the current beauty trends.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with wanting to fit in, but when we’re constantly seeing images that are so far from what people look like in real life, there can be some psychological costs.

4-23-24: Day 67
Day 67 consisted of the wrap up chapter for project 13, its review, and 3 challenges:
1. Instafilter review
Challenge 1: Try making the Slider and Change Filter buttons disabled if there is no image selected:
Tumblr media
Challenge 2: Experiment with having more than one slider, to control each of the input keys you care about. For example, you might have one for radius and one for intensity:

I made the sliders also become disabled depending on which keys were included, since the preview was confusing me when I tested them on the new filters I added in Challenge 3. If it’s confusing to me, it’s probably confusing to users as well!
Challenge 3: Explore the range of available Core Image filters, and add any three of your choosing to the app:
